Politics › Re: Acting President Goodluck Jonathan And His Too Many Grammatical Errors by KnowAll(m): 1:10pm On Apr 15, 2010
The Major languages of Hausa, Igbo and Yoruba are very rich languages that have got a lot of proverbs, natural idioms and general wise connotation and adages. That is why most politicians from these tribes when they speak English they transfer the richness enshrined in these language to the English language thereby enriching the English language further.

And that explains why two of  Nigerians renowned novelist are Igbo and Yoruba in the person of Chinua Achebe and Wole Soyinka. A Zimbabwe guy once told me they studied Chinua Achebe in school, he was really excited by those rich Igbo proverbs, the way he was extolling Achebe, I said na wah oh.

What I noticed of the minority tribes especially the ones in the South-South, the Edo’s, Itsekeri, Ijos, Efiks and Ibibios because a large section of these tribes communicate in a particular form of English on a daily basis abandoning their local languages, they tend to forget, what they are speaking is not standard English and when put on the spot to speak in a press conference they speak a mixed variant type of the English language, a fusion of standard English and colloquial or Nigerian English.

I would suggest they either start speaking more of their local languages embracing all the proverbs and idioms or speak one of the three major Nigerian languages. Pidgin English is not doing justice to their Standard English. That is the reasons why most Warri and Port Harcourt Guys cannot communicate at length in standard English.

One can see such evidence in people like Tuface idibia, although he is from Benue, he has chosen Pidgin English as his trade mark, whenever he is interviewed he appears or gives the impression he cannot speak Standard English at length without interjections from Pidgin English whether he is struggling to speak Standard English or doing it deliberately is any one’s guess.
.
But on the other hand Fela who speaks Yoruba fluently is comfortable with both Standard English, Pidgin English and Yoruba because of his mastery of his mother tongue.

But then Jonathan has no excuse being a Phd holder, he is not an area boy from Warri or Port Harcourt,  I think the problem he has is he talks too fast, most Nigerians tend to talk too fast without realising it.

I remember when I first came to the UK, the English people could not understand what I was saying, I started listening to the radio on a daily basis, re-learning that subtle and simple way of communicating in English, what I found out was it is better picking your words one at a time in a slow and regular tone than just rushing everything through.

Yaradua picks his words he is a better public speaker than Jonathan, most English or Americans would easily understand Yaradua, that aside the Hausa accent is like the French accent sexy when speaking the English language. Jonathan can learn, it is not too late he needs to be tutored on how to pick his words and stress the points clearly and concisely.

Yesterday during the Interview he indicated his 3 main goals b4 leaving office, but failed to inform the interviewer why they are the most important ones, he just listed them one after the other without any in-depth reason or even allow the points to sink in before picking the next point. The points were Power,  Free and Fair Election and Corruption. Well that was his first international interview, he should get better as time goes on.

It is fun to watch people shine in their ignorance. As Bianca alluded in the interview, it takes a mature and independent thinker to go against the societal norms as in the case of marrying a person outside the supposedly age range.

Like humans, no marriage is perfect and I concluded you are definitely aloof from reality when you insinuated that Bianca’s marriage to Ojukwu is not a thing to write home about. It is even a wild goose chase while in the memory of idiocy to inject the element of sh-agg-ing into the discourse. Granted that the game you had in mind is better played when young than old but some old folks could eat your cake in such endeavor.

I guess Bianca endeavored very hard to represent the motherhood as decreed by society she found herself hence the allusion of not allowing her daughter to marry an older man.
The one’s that are married amongst us acknowledge the woman for been sincere and forthright first and foremost, her coded message is well received, u would need to join those of us who have being privilege to know the ins and out of a blissful matrimony to be able to comment on what remains an uncharted territory to many folks on this forum and u need to be mature about it.

The sha*ing bit is just to home in the point to those shallow minded ones amongst us who don’t understand what the woman was saying.

Politics › Re: Lagos Awards Light Rail Project Contract To Chinese Firm by KnowAll(m): 1:51pm On Apr 14, 2010
Why do we give the Chinese laudable projects like this. There can only be one reason, contract inflation and excessive gains by Fashola and his cronies. When Jakande wanted to do the same projects 20 years he engaged the services of the French company that built TGV Fast trains in France, and it would have cost only $700 million dollars in 1982.

Your deduction makes no sense at all but of course the comment wasn't unexpected coming from you. Who is trying to keep up appearance? Ojukwu (Oxford trained, leader of the then Biafran nation) the son of the first millionaire in Igboland or the former Miss Nigeria (who runs an NGO and maintains a law chambers) whose father was one of the richest men in Igboland?
What has what u have posted got to do with matrimony, Do you know whether d old soilder cannot sh*g his wife properly anymore, every woman knows where they are feeling the pain, thank God this woman was a bit forthright in her wordings her constituents would understand her drift.

It would take a matured married mind to understand the coded message. It is definitely not for juveniles.
Politics › Re: Ojukwu's Memoirs In The Offing - Bianca by KnowAll(m): 11:33am On Apr 14, 2010
One can easily deduce from the comment of the wife, that this matrimony is not necessary a  bliss, just keeping up appearance. undecided

One wonders why the wife would frown at the prospect of her own daughters marrying an older man, if her experience is anything to write home about. After all the Yaradua’s are marrying older men and ending up been the 3rd and 4th wives and seems pretty cool with it
Politics › Re: I Won’t Force Myself To Meet Yar’adua, Says Jonathan ! by KnowAll(m): 11:03am On Apr 14, 2010
I don’t really believe that the good luck an issue. But at the present, I’ve been facing a lot of challenges. What some people will attribute to good luck could have been disastrous under some circumstances."

Some idiots especially those Hooligans In Power alas military men in civilian clothing, would have fallen prey to Yaradua’s CSO and ADC trap by confronting a needless and planned crisis head-On.

Thereby heating up the polity further, this would invariably lead to the Military taking over, insisting and sighting an irrevocable power struggle between the Presidency and the Vice-Presidency. Jonathan’s intellect and foresight helped in avoiding what would have been an open and confrontational war-fare between those two exalted offices.

Having said that the CSO and ADC wouldn’t have threatened a rascal, a mean and unrelenting dictator like IBB, hence why some quarters in Nigeria and International concerns gravitates towards the assurance and the expediency an IBB candidacy guarantees in the next dispensation.

Nigeria Railway Revisited-The way Forward

https://www.nairaland.com/nigeria?topic=419682.msg5767459#msg5767459

The most important thing is the six or seven states in each zone to sit down and draw a comprehensive route which will take full advantage of the developmet needs and goals of the whole region, these goals should then be concessionalise based on the drawn out plans,  adhererance must be strict.

Concessions should also be issued to dedicated lines that will link all the rigions together in one big unify conglomerate. Do we have a development plan at all, that is something that needs to be looked into.

He can contest for presidency if wants to and can even win. But the win will be the worst to eve happened to Babangida, it may sound like noise to you guys's hears but i will take matter into my hands and i'm sure i can get atleast 10 supporters in Naija to back me me up. If Babangida wins, he will not rule for a single day. There is a bullet with "IBB" named on it for him. I mean this is a man that introduced 419 to Nigeria, he killed many innocent folks, austerity, cancelled the best election Africa has ever witnessed to date, Loot the treasury blind, Dele Giwa, etc etc, Sometimes it only takes a man to change a country, enough is really enough. Nigeria does not deserve Babangida again! If this is my only goal in life, SO BE IT!! Fair win or rigged-win Babangida will not rule Nigeria again. It may sound like i'm blowing hot air to y'all but i implore you to wait and see. Unless he doesn't win.

Lagos to Ibadan set the thrend on expresways in Nigeria. A new fast train Linking Lagos to Ibadan would be a fantatastic idea, I wonder who heads Odua Investments these days. This should be a project at the forefront of their investment initiative. They can raise funds by selling shares to the public, the money raised would be used for such laudable project. I have already written something on this initiative, other regions can create Investment companies which would pursue such development goals.

All the FG should do is draw a comprehensive train route for the nation, it is either they build and maintain the tracks or they contract out the building and maitanance of the tracks. Train operators, that is the trains running on those tracks should be 100% private sector led.

I don't see why an oil rich State like Bayelsa cannot connect Yenogoa to Port Harcourt by rail, after building the line private train operators can run the trains just like the airports, they belong to the various Goverment but the airlines are all privately owned.

It is a bit dicey no one knows Jonathan's plan but the PDP would likely stick with their rotational system. Jonthan has 2 jokers either to be IBB's vice or not run at all but have a truely free and fair election that means Buhari and the mega party if they do their home work well enough they might nick it just like in Ghana where the opposition won the first and only time in Africa.
Politics › Re: I’ll Run For 2011 Presidential Polls, Says Ibrahaim Babangida by KnowAll(m): 10:48pm On Apr 10, 2010
And I don't get your point either. Don't use words like "assurance" as a means of hedging a defence for IBB because you think such words could paint him in a more flattering light. What is assurance and how can it work for IBB when people can't even trust him of have faith in anything approaching consistency as far as he is concerned? I am still yet to figure out the so called "genius" of this man that people harp on about. A genius that destroyed the Nigerian economy and insitutionalised corruption, yes, very clever and assuring indeed.
During his Military stint he was working alone and on his own impulse as an absolute leader. He would now learn to work not only with the legislatures, but with the judiciary. A Military regime is an illegitimate regime, since our country is not a country that punishes mutineers then it is fair to forgive these unruly soldiers for their mis-deeds and open a new chapter after all we have allowed one to rule us in the past in no other person than OBJ so why deny IBB his constitutional right.

You have the right not to vote for him, that is a right no one can deny u, unfortunately your type on the internet with so much venom towards IBB  only represents 3% of the Nigerian population, I guess u have a hell lot of work to do to undo IBB's stauning start.

Not saying you do not have a right to an opinion, just that it is bull because you just now switched from the logic to offered only last week and even suggested we will, in time, learn that you are right

Let us put it mildly, what I said a few days ago is wishful thinking as a Jonathan supporter. Today we are talking of events as they present themselves and are unfolding b4 our very eyes and my position is as stated above. IBB would bring Assurance and Stability to the polity.

I think knowall is d person they were referin 2 wen dey said he who does not know but thinks dat he knows,  Pls spare us all your jargons 4 your info a sick Yaradua is better dan IBB in any form, military coups are already alien 2 us, our democracy is no longer young it has matured and dat was y it survived d recent crisis.

For all those who will want 2 eat me because of my coment dat d sick Yaradua is beta dan IBB shld pls do a detailed research nd compare Yaraduas 3yr rule nd IBBs 8yr rule. In my opinion if IBB did half of wat Yaradua has done in d last 3yrs we won't b complainin abt somtins we are complainin abt 2day.
Pls spare us all your jargons 4 your info a sick Yaradua is better dan IBB in any form-

That is a fallacy and fall short of mundane reasons. Yaradua made it possible for a group of unelected officials to fleece the country of 70 billion Naira.

military coups are already alien 2 us, our democracy is no longer young it has matured and dat was y it survived d recent crisis. -

Military Coups are a clear and present danger. All u need to do to be convinced of this fact is check the number of coup threads that sprang up between November 2009 and Feb 2010. Coups is as real as day light up till just b4 Jonathan was empowered. Even now we are not all clear.

In my opinion if IBB did half of wat Yaradua has done in d last 3yrs we won't b complainin abt somtins we are complainin abt 2day.

IBB was an absolute leader in other words a dictator, he would not be having the kind of power he had as a Military head state as a Civilian head of state. That is why OBJ another Military dictator's 3rd term agenda was defeated. There is no basis for comparing, u compare like for like.

@Knowall, please stop spewing BULL, thinking it makes sense in some way. The same you claimed IBB would run only to drop out last minute. Now you are telling us bull of how he is of assurance and stability.

That was a personal opionion and my observation because of his lackadisical attitude about him running for the Presidency, I think I am entitled to opinions, On Assurance and Stabilty whether u like it or not if the man has decided he wants the top job, I am afraid there is nothing u can do. He is no weakling military wise. He is street wise in the debauchery called governance in Nigeria. I am for Jornthan but if the Maradona of Niger state throws his hat in the ring, then everyone would have to take a step backwards within the PDP. undecided
Politics › Re: I’ll Run For 2011 Presidential Polls, Says Ibrahaim Babangida by KnowAll(m): 9:15pm On Apr 10, 2010
Assurance- You can see stakholders from every geo-political zone falling all over each other in order to be seen to be the one that crowned his royal highness the prince from the hills of Minna. Even Diaporas are organising road-shows in suppot of IBB. That is what is called assurance.

OBJ ruled Nigeria for 8 good years assuringly that does not mean atrocities where not commited or how else do we explain the $16 billion dollars spent on the power sector but nothing to show for. But the advantages of his regime outways the dis-advantages, that is assurance.

Stability - With Assurance firmly on the ground comes stability and growth. It does not mean corruption would not happen. Jerry Rawlings was actually the first civilian President of Ghana his role was that of assurance and stabilty. He ruled for 2 terms of 4 years each. What he left behind was not what u see today but the structures he establish are what has made growth possible today in Ghana. Also one can be rest assured that a military coup would be something alien and distance to the Nigeria psche with IBB at the helms of affair. Our democracy is still young and still needs tutelage from experience hands not with what we all woke up to witness when a comatossed Yaradua was brought into town.

What we need is stability and assurance I think IBB would give us that. Yaradua took us back to the Nigerian stone age of 1966 where tribal bickering, blatant and outright nepotism and favouritism were the order of the day. The good thing about ex Militiary men is that they have lived and worked in the four corners of Nigeria in pursuing their line of duty, that has made them very cosmopolitian. It is either they were in 2nd Mechanised in Ibadan, Dodan Barraks In Lagos, 82nd in Enugu or 3rd Mechanised in Jos plus other stints in Abuja and Kaduna.

It would be good for confidence in the economy and growth. How Jonathan would dribble pass IBB the Maradona in getting the coveted Presidency is something I would be looking at very keenly.

Politics › Re: Ask A Somali Anything, Naija Folks by KnowAll(m): 7:25pm On Apr 10, 2010
Why should we be asking somalians questions, in fact Somalians had better start thinking with their brains. I don't care if u are mixed with the devil, one thing I am sure is Somalians have the largest diaspoarans of mordern day Africa in the western world. Somalians should organise themselves, every DIASPOARAN familiy contributing to a new War effort. I would suggest young Somalians in diasporas of 18 to 35 to organise themselves into a militia. They should speak to the Kenyan Authorities to provide lands for training. They should solicit for funds from the four corners of the Earth with a possibly added backing of the super powers Like Washington and London and the EU behind this new adventure of taking their country back from the bandits running the country.

The theme of this war would be a no hold bar conflict, the geneva convention can take a back sit for a moment, that is total annihilation of any opposition that they comfront, don't allow your enemies to escape to fight another day, seek them out from their holes and destroy them. I think you mind need to take a few lessons from the Nigerian Army of how they dealt with the Boko Haram problems, no prisoners total destruction.

This should be the Generational duty of the present crop of Somalians in diasporas any other school of thought or discussion is a complete and utterly waste of time. The world we like to know your culture the day u wrestle your country from those ameteurs al queda intimidating the poor citizenry. Your country has a 1000 miles of beautiful beach why leave such a paradise to a bunch or area boys with AK47, the earlier u get rid of these rag-tag toy soldiers the better for you lot. you are trying to cover up jonathan's indiscretion.since the constitution did not stipulate line of temporary handover of power when the president is travelling out, jonathan should have handover to mark since he's the next person he would have handover to if he is going on vacation.just this morning, the polish president died in a plane crash, what if he hadnt properly handover to the next person to him in line of succession.you cant rule out any eventuality in government, therefore there should be proper line of succession.
Mr man, Dr Know has spelt it out to u, I would advise u to go and read his post again, In a Presidential System we have 3 arms of goverment, the Eexecutive, the legislative and the Judiciary. One thing u should realise is we are in an unsual time. What befell our substantive President is very unlikely to happen for a long time. If it were a case of straight death of the President succession would also be straight forward and those conditions are well documented in the constitution.

For all intent and purposes the Acting President is in America on a working visit. If the presence of the Acting Preisdent is required in an emergency, be rest assured his butt would be on his sit within 8 hours. Are we now talking of who would suceed the Acting President in the interim, well the Excutive and that includes all 42 ministers and Director Generals and the armed forces would hold on to the fort, that is the mandate of the Executive to the Nigerian people. The Legislatures and the Judicairy have their own job discription and it does not include standing in for Mr President if he goes to the toilet to take a lick.

David Mark will only resume the position of the President if the President has being fatally injured, this is a scenrio that has been recited so many times on this thread, I am sure some of us know the relevant numbers of the clauses at heart by now.

The scenerio described above happened to the Chinese Premier when they had the G8 meeting in Italy, he had to dash home to attend to
demestic problems ensuing.

I am simply wondering why the move now to get Religious leaders involved. I suspect this is some sort of ploy to get Nigerians, who were not hooked by the initial charade, to maybe bow because their religious leaders are now involved. I would not put it past these people. lol

It would do us good to watch how these visits by religious leaders affects sermons at pulpits and mosques around the country, in the coming weeks
It would be inconceivable for a command-chief of a Nation with a reconstituted new security chief in place not to know what is happening a few doors from his official residence. Even if it means the CinC going to visit the Yaradua’s in the dead of the night when prying eyes like yours are out of arms way. To any man of God worth his salt a visit to a sickly President is not only personal, but the Christian doctrine of “ calling those things that are not as though they were” would mean that President Yaradua is an assumed work in progress if u have faith.

To confess to the contrary would mean the trip to Aso Rock would not only be a complete waste of time but a futile attempt at a lackadaisical busy bodying endurance with the added bonus of a total loss of client confidentiality.
