Duke might not be the best candidate in the land,  but then he could be the best amongst a bunch of lameducks, Who in his right mind would choose a beat up old beetle to a brand new Mercedes E- Class. The comparision between IBB and Duke is as far as the North Pole is to the South pole. There is power in Numbers since nobody would choose a beat up old car to a new one, whole communities,Towns,LG's and Cities should be mobilized en-masse in rejecting IBB's Candidacy for a much more younger and verile candidate like Duke.  Already the mobilization has started in earnest and IBB by the day is turning into a pariah.

Like I said earlier, Duke would never be my first choice when picthed amongst equals but on a head to head with IBB he takes my vote and a whole swarth of younger Nigerian votes.

Lagos is presently wallowing in the delusional reasoning of another African despotic dreamer, instead of our Man to tackle the little problems facing the citizenry of the state, like getting rid of open sewages, which almost invariably leads to mass invasion of blood sucking vampire mosquitoes during the raining season. A task if embarked upon and accomplished by a visonary leader would put 100,000 Lagosians in direct labor of laying the pipes that would take all the sewages to the sea, Or better still tackle the perenial floods that overwhealmes the City re-enacting the travails of of Noah's Prophesy.

But what do get from Messers Fashola, the launching of the red and blue line light railroad for the 100th time in less than 3 years, now the delusional Governor's sight has changed focus yet again to even grandier things, something thought up at a whim, a brand new airport around Lekki.

When Questioned on who would use the Airport the Governor smiled  grin reassuringly to himself, his mind wonders and he remeniscent over the grand plan put together by the Asiwaju who, argued and insisted that the Airport would be ours just Like London Terminal 5, that has an exclusive contract with BRITISH AIRWAYS, Lekki would be an airport under the guise and acronynm of PPP but owned and operated by the real De facto King of Lagos.  Ladies and Gentlemen lest I forget watchout for a new airline operating from the SW(Lagos Specifically) in the weeks and months to come. Diasporas State in the SW is the way forward.

The Goverments of Oyo,Oshun, Ondo and Ogun should give the Diasporas community Land so that a new state called the Diasporas State in the SW can come into fusion. We would like to have our own Little London in Nigeria, since the Nigeria State system has failed the majority of Nigerians and to be frank there is noting to write home about as it stands.

I think BecomeRich made mention of creating a new Oduduwa City in the SW, I go one step further and suggest enough land should be made available to us so that we create our own idea of Eldorado in the SW where all and sundry would be welcomed. Diasporas State in the SW is what we would be pushing for. Another Good thing is we hope not to draw money from the FG. We would raise our own capital.

Perharps a much more better and realistic idea,  Lagos State should excise Badagry to us because of its history of Slave Trade, and the wider diasporas community  which includes Slaves taking to the Americas, Brazil and the Carribeans, all this people can all have somewhere in the shores of Africa they can call home. The Black American tourist industry is a multi billion dollar industry we can exploit.  huh

The fact is Babapupa is just yarning dust, he has not answered my simple question, if the State Government owns MMA today or reach some kind of progressive agreement with the federal authorities about infrastructural improvement in that facility would  Lagos State be in a hurry  to build a needless, ego centric, white elephant project like the Lekki Airport. The answer is capital NO.

Clearly what Fashola is lacking in his administration is the diplomatic tact, on how to approach the Federal Government on issues that would affect the city. The first thing any prospective Governor should do in Lagos State on resuming office is to have a special adviser to the Governor on Federal matters, this official would liaise with the Presidency, the National Assembly and Federal Ministers on developmental issues.

Lagos State is not just any state, it was once the Federal Capital and a need for the State Government and the Federal Authorities talking or communicating on a constant basis is very imperative and important it should be an everyday thing an ongoing process, otherwise either parties would not make any progress.

So if the FG decrees that the LASG should not use any of her motorways in Lagos, Lagos State government in a show of senseless bravado and brinkmanship would go and build an alternative 3rd mainland Bridge or an alternative Ikorudu Road what a weird way of thinking.

Why re-invent the wheel when there is already a wheel that needs twitching.

Ironically the same Fashola who doesn’t want to have anything to do with the Feds is the one supporting the logistical improvements The Nigerian Police Force has been showered with in recent months,  why did he not go and establish a Lagos State Police Command in show of unwarranted bravado.  undecided

This post is a walking contradiction. Please read through your posts again and consider the parts in bold. You actually do believe a tangible arguement for not building an airport is because someone might have a better idea in future? Why don't we just not build anything at all then? While we are at it we might as well stop investing our precious resources on building more power plants because a more advanced and efficient method of generating power might be discovered in the next 50years, meanwhile, we wait.

You berate the government for not building infrastructures then on the other hand berate them for building too much? Isn't airport infrastructure What else would you refer to as infrastructure, more roads? Have you been blind to the roads been built around lagos? Bridges like the Lekki bridge mentioned in the article? What else would count as infrastructure? Ferries have already been and still being invested in? What else? A rail netwrok which the government last time I checked is working on (getting foreign investors)? Considering the amount of work that needs to be done isn't it quite silly to castigate a government for multi tasking? Gosh, how I wish all state govenors in Nigeria multi tasked with the same zeal and fevour.

Unfortunately increasing the size of your font does not increase the quality of the content.
There is noting contradictory about my post, I was not against building bridges or roads what I am against is building an airport, an extremely elitist project which is un-warranted. If the FG hands over all FG Airport to State Goverments I am sure building an Airport in Lekki would not be a priority, or even be on the drawing board for years to come. A State where land is at a premium, to build another huge airport in what is continually and gradually becoming a very scarce commodity is not the best way to optimise land resources. What Lagos should be doing in the Lekki corridor is build upwards and not vertically, if current trend is not put on hold,  Lagos would not have land to build more important infrastructures that have yet to be conceived by good leaders and visonaries of tommorrow.

They should liase with the FG, so that they can expand MMA,  the land in Lekki currently pencilled for an airport can be used for something else in future. Even if the present goverment does not know what to do with the land in the lekki corridor , subsequent Governos of the state might have a better idea on how to maximise their scarce resources.

What Fashola should do, if he has ran out of ideas as per what the next development leap should be around Lekki is,  he should in the interim build nice huge park for now and whem someone with a better idea who knows what to do with the land takes over the mantle of the state, that person can convert the park to whatever he feels the city needs at the time. An airport is a No, No for now. It does not make sense building a brand new airport 20 miles from the old airport when the city is lacking and yearning for more major infrastructures.

Why don't Fashola concentrate on Eko Atalntic city and the light rail road  for now, deliver those and get the accolades that comes with it,  rather than trying to juggle 4 or 5 major projects at once. At least for now, none of the major projects embarked upon by his admnistration has been completed except of course planting flowers, painting side walks and round-abouts and filling pot holes. undecided Forget to mention he completed Tinubu's BRT Bus service, I commend him for that.

I cannot for a moment ever re-call the relevance of any of our previous CBN Governors, as in most cases and in like most developed societies the CBN Governors operate below the radii,  for instance in the case of England, sometime during the heat of the credit crunch the Bank of England quietly bailed out a few banks without the public knowing about it.
Politics › Re: Abuja Should Have A Mayor And Not A Minister by KnowAll(op): 1:46pm On Apr 27, 2010
In whatever sense, your arguement boils down to lack of good governance. Other than Lagos state that have recently introduced the Bus services which of the 36 states that have state governors have a proper transport scheme, road, housing scheme, hospitals and anything to name a few. Most of what you are saying can all be done by the Minister. After all, the power to execute project, disburse funds and plan and implement a budget are also vested in the office of the minister. Hence, the term executive power is just a nomencleture to confuse people. As far as we know good leadership is all we want.

Moreover, the peculiar nature of Nigerian political system necissitate for a Minister. Once they introduce an Elected officer, unless a new Law is created to include the non-indegine, the political system will be hijacked by tribal sentiments. Where only a native of Abuja can be allowed to contest any political office.

A compitent minister can perform all the functions you have underlined. An elected mayor may not do anything. Do not confuse bureacracy with good governance.

Abuja is a city purposely built to provide a base for the federal government. Most of the natives were resettle in Niger and Nassarawa state. The only problem is the Federal Government that changes Ministers every 1 or 2 years. And this did not affect Abuja alone, it affect all sectors, from petroleum industry to sport
Abuja is the Federal Capital of Nigeria, Nigerians from every state, and every tribe should be allowed to run for office provided they can prove they have being resident in the city for more than 5 years. The Minister of Abuja just Like the Minister for Lagos in the 1960’s is only interested in where the core FG activities are happening that is places like  maitama, wuse, asokoro and garki.

Same thing happened when Lagos was the Federal Capital, the FG was only interested in Lagos Island, VI and Ikoyi that is why they built 1004 flats for the House of Assembly members at  VI and they had their hotel, the Federal Palace Hotel also at  VI. They did a few things on the mainland that is because of the scarcity of land on the island.

The only reason why the present contraption continues till this day is
the North has albeit subtlely and  informally are laying claim on a city which is suppose to be the most neutral and home to every Nigerian.

If the 800,000 inhabitants of the city want an Igbo or Hausa or Yoruba man as their Mayor so let it be so but this anomaly as it is, should be discontinued.

I doubt thus, if the status quo would be rectified or changed in the nearest future as unconfirmed and  unreliable source says Igbo’s are the majority in Abuja, and most likely in  any free and fair election in the city, the result  would probably go the Igbo way hence reluctance to change this abnormal contraption where 800,000 people have being be dis-enfranchised.

What is the big deal, If it goes the Igbo way at least we would be proud the city is run democratically and not undemocratically.

. Just like Washington DC, a city with a 75% black population, when their beloved mayor was setup by the FBI in a sting operation to discredit the mayor, what did the blacks do, they voted him back to office the following year.

It is a 1000’s times better when u have someone who the people love and
vote for than have someone impose on them.

The question of whether the other Governors are performing in their various states is irrelevant, as the sins of the father should not be revisited on the son, the Mayor of Abuja might perform even better than Fashola.

What is worth doing well is worth doing right if we have a democracy a city with a population of 800,000 should not be excluded in this experience.
Politics › Re: Abuja Should Have A Mayor And Not A Minister by KnowAll(op): 12:22pm On Apr 27, 2010
would have prefered you back your arguement with historical facts and inadequacy of the current system rather than just giving examples from other cities. Every society have its own heritage and it is not copying America or UK that will make Abuja or Nigeria great, rather implementing the right policies. It is worthy to note that the Boris Johnson is the second mayor Londo. London never had a mayor until recently.

Abuja was previously thought to be only an enclave of the Federal Government serving as a unity centre of other federating structure and therefore all its activities will be legislated and over seen by the national assembly.

The current system is not illegal. It is backed by Nigerian law. If you have problem with the system just say so, but I think it is higly propestorous to pronounce it as illegal.
The reason why the office of the Mayor of London was established was because London b4 the advent of this office was a directionless, purposeless, and often a city engaged in one boundary clash or the other amongst other things

Since the Mayor came on board, with his introduction of the oyster card system, by the vision and forthright brought by this purposeful executive officer the transportation sector has being revolutionalized into a world class transportation hub worthy of replicating.

Kenneth Livingstone the last Mayor has comprehensively integrated the transportation system into one big unison of what one can be ascribed as a transportation paradise thanks to having a strong executive power at the heart of the affairs of the city.

There are 800,000 people living in Abuja although they get to vote for
their councillors and chairmen into the various LG that is not good enough as the LG budgets is noting to write home about.

What Abujans lacks and needs is a focal point officer with real executive powers someone who would speak for both the poor and the rich for the benefit of the City.

The present system of appointing political jobbers is not the way forward, it has serve its time which was when we were ushering in democracy, those who drew the constitution overlooked certain things which should now be revisited and corrected.

We have all seen and all witness to the hollowness and shabbiness
of our constitution especially during the Yaradua debacle, it is time we correct these anomaly and enfranchise the 800,000 people living in Abuja with a proper executive officer who would hold sway in the FCT.

Just because London chose to go the Mayoral road a bit late does not
make it right for us to continue to dwell and wallow in our silly and undemocratic ways, London has since seen the advantages of having a powerful executive officer at the helms of its affair, the Olympic games amongst other things is coming to London in 2012.

. We cannot continue to have a Minister of the FCT who at the whim of the Presidency can be sacked without recourse to the 800,000 citizens of Abuja. I can remember the Mayor of Washington caught snorting cocaine in a hotel with a prostitute, he was incarcerated for the offence, the following year he ran again for the Mayorship of the city and won, let the 800,000 people living in Abuja have a voice that is what democracy is all about.
Politics › Abuja Should Have A Mayor And Not A Minister by KnowAll(op): 10:20am On Apr 27, 2010
Abuja should have a Mayor and not a minister. The way the federal capital is run is wrong and illegal, what we have at the moment is an inheritance from the military regime. The administration of Abuja should be democratizes like every other facet of the polity. It is the only administrative anomaly in democratic Nigeria today.

What Abuja needs is a Executive Mayor who would run for office every 4 years like Governors, the administrator for Abuja should not be appointed by the FG.

Abuja should also have a legislative council and executive council and still maintain its LG Government structure. Just like London and Washington which are national capitals, Abuja should embrace this kind of government which is the accepted norms all over the world and stop henceforth the illegality that has been left to go on for too long.

It is common knowledge appointments especially of people who are foreign to the city stalls growths as those appointed are only there to line their pockets instead of having the pains and agony of the city dwellers at heart. In most cases those appointed are not even resident in the city, it is only the real and proper city dwellers that will know the problems of a city at first hand.

This artificial contraption must be corrected without much ado. huh

One cannot be jailed for carryout a murder if the offence one committed was thinking of killing someone. When we cross that bridge of the banks collapsing or the murder happening, then we would address the issues as it present itself at the time.

If Sanusi can print 2 billion dollars over Night in trying to save those supposedly failed Banks when they have not crashed, I am sure he would be allowed to print more if the eventuality happens.

Banks are a private concerns, the owners should be allowed to run their business the way they want with a caution, the role of any future CBN Governor should be limited to that of advisory and precautionary and not that of a stick wielding regulator.

At least IBB completed one infrastructure, which is now the live wire to the economy of Lagos State and Nigeria at large. The 3RD Mainland Bridge, a project conceived in the early 1970’s finally came into fruition in the early 1990’s,  once Maradona issued  a special decree to the contractors,  giving them the matching orders in no small measures that the project has to be completed by a certain date or they face the ignominy of being be booted out of the country, the job unlike many abandoned projects that abounds the polity was completed in record time.

Without this project seeing the bright light of the day, Lagos metropolitan area with a population growth of 600,000 a year would have being the biggest gridlocked city in the whole world,  going to places like Lagos Island, VI, Ikoyi and Lekki would have being impossible and a nightmare, thanks to IBB.

In fact the 3rd Mainland bridge opened the Lekki Corridor to development otherwise the City would have being heading towards Ibadan and Abeokuta.

Can someone please tell me one infrastructural milestone or any grand engineering feat completed by all those who have ruled after the evil genius left office, none comes to my mind except if someone out there can remind me of one.

Perhaps his second coming might also coincide and ursher in the completion of those fantasy fast trains many of us have talked about for months connecting the twin cities of Lagos and Abuja, especially now he is fully aware of the strength and the power of this infamous but obnoxious economic theory first muted in the early 80’s during the Ronald Reagan years in office.

IBB as a private citizen and in his private life has put a few punt on this reprehensive Economic theory and today he has seen his little token investment in that money spinner called Globacom turn into a monstrosity churning out more Naira notes than the Federal Government’s own Mint Company, he is now a fully converted disciple and an ardent proponent of this theory where a few Oligarchs control the every whims and turns of the citizenry even down to the most mundane of house choirs.

Somebody asked a question, What has IBB forgotten at Aso Rock, well, having tried and tested his new found voodoo economic theory on a small scale as a  private citizen he is now ready to unleash an unrelenting tirade of  private gazumping of State assets,   stripping to the barest bones those mouth watering assets and grabbing the best lands in the country for maximum self deprivation and utilisation.

What a lot of Nigerians don’t know is, our most popular and famous Governor who most Nigerians hold in very high esteem and is seen as an action Governor, Messer’s Fashola and his God Father Tinubu has for many years covertly, unleashed an unprecedented but subtle burst of this alien voodoo economic theory on poor Lagosians without them knowing using such fancy words and names as PPP-Private, Public Partnership.

One thing most Lagosians don’t realise is Lagos State is a poorer state today,  than it was yesteryears as most of her lucrative assets have being stripped and sold off to private individuals, meanwhile some private individuals who where running unsavoury business rackets in the back streets of Chicago a few years ago are now obscenely Rich. The Voodoo Economics does seem to be performing some kind of government magic for some people and I must say it has its advantage and disadvantages.

I was surprised watching a programme on TV Yesterday when an official for LAMATA said the Buses on the BRT scheme does not belong to Lagos State but to a private company.  undecided

Uhmmmmnnnnn Voodoo Economics indeed  huh, birds of the same feather they say flocks together,  no wonder Tinubu volunteered to be IBB’s VP under the AC platform but the evil genius and the grand master and commander of Voodoo Economics In Nigeria turned him down politely insisting he would rather keep his aces closer to his chest.

N4,200.00 is not too much  shocked, the gate man of the hotel I stayed in Ikeja a few months ago gets N6,000.00 and u are saying N4,200.00 is not too much.Even if he gets N10,000.00 a month he would have lost 40% of his income on paying Electricity bill alone.

Let me tell u listen carefully  “pre-paid meters is more expensive than quarterly billing” . They use pre-paid in England for defaulter’s homes where people are struggling to pay their Electricity bill quarterly. It is a technology that has being in existence since the mid 1980’s

If the regulators in Nigeria are offering u pre-paid meter know u are paying over the odds,  that is u are paying more than people paying monthly or quarterly billing.

I will personally give him the benefit of the doubt let us promote aspects of his vision that we agree with and demand same of other candidates. That way regardless of which individual wins the race, NIGERIA AS A WHOLE WINS.

Re-ReCharge Card

It is an SOS mechanism, a tool needed by women of easy virtues that now abounds the polity either overtly or covertly due to lack of jobs to ply their trade effectively.

You and I know where your $1 dollar would rather go when faced between the devil and the deep blue sea shocked

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

If we have a 2 horse race IBB is better than Buhari, but if we have a 10 horse race, IBB would be my number 9th and Buhari the 10th.
