and we are suppose to JUMP UP? What is wrong with this country Nigeria We are not suppose to jump up, this man held on, when un-elected officials where ruling the roost, using the President’s name as a barge of honour to plunder our dear nation into Infiniti. His temperament and demeanour even when he knew, the Presidency is their for the taking is highly commendable. |
Ph.D in Beer Parlour & Pepper-soup Studies, shebi Are u saying he has not got a PHd or like a typical Southerner u are being sarcastic believing within yourself noting good can come from any Hausa / Fulani’s. |
was dis not the guy that released soljas in the middle of the nite to fake the return of yaradua like a thief in the nite? Have u really sat down and ponder over the word “ ACTING”, when u do that u will know who is real and who is fake amongst the 2 President. |
Though I had some reservations about General Dambazzau initially with regard to Jos, I must commend him for steering the military away from the temptation to grab power during a most crucial time in the history of the nation. He has shown a maturity that many of our so called politicians do not have and we can also say he is a true leader. I agree with u, 100%, General Maina is dragging his name down, since he is the head of army he should be able to re-deploy him. But for him not to grasp power in those dark months of November 2009 and December 2009 is highly commendable. |
Is Segun Arinze a better Acting President than Jonathan Goodluck ? ![]() |
Even film has an end, when is Mr Acting President going to stop acting and be Mr Substantive President otherwise he should revert back to VP. We cannot have over 200 Acting President’s in Nigeria, there are so many acting President in Nollywood. |
The Doctorate General, General Dambazzau is the first General with a PhD holding the post of Chief of Army Staff, I think this historical event for some reasons has passed us all by, without the slightest thought, it is an occasion worthy of celebrating. No wonder there was no coup when everyone was expecting one. I was convinced, and knew it was just a matter of time before the real owners of Aso Rock will come calling, after all, Aso Rock was built by a military man and that specialised unit called the Brigade of Guards are more inclined to answer to a Military Head of state than some bloody civilians. On the 31st of December 2009, at about 11:00 pm, I went to bed early, my wife asked me if I was going to come to church for the new year service, I said no, that I was not feeling too well, the truth was, I was more apprehensive at what was going to unfold in the wee hours of the morning in far away Nigeria(We all remember Buhari and his co-horts who struck in Jan 1, 1983 ), the negative thought swirling in mind was beginning to take its toll on my health, I said to myself, I better sleep early, I never knew I love my country this much. My wife left me and went to church. I went straight to bed knowing by the time I wake up within the next 6 hours a new government should have being ushered in. My Phone rang several times just after January 1st 2010, I ignored it, saying to myself this is not the time to celebrate the coming of a new year, when something more critical and crucial is about to happen, I just hope a lot of lives are not lost. As I lay down to have a quick nap, wondering in mind who the new Government will be, was it going to be a Major’s coup like Orka’s and Nzeogwu’s or a Colonel’s coup like Gowon’s or better still a palace coup where normally the Chief of Army Staff gets fed up of those bloody civilian’s antics and just shove them aside as one will shove any remnant of snow powder lying on one’s drive way aside. I fell into a deep sleep. I woke about 5.00 am, and checked my laptop which was left on to see what is happening in obodo Nigeria, no news of any coup except for some mischievous person trying to make us believe it is happening. I went through all major networks nothing, it was then I sat down and did a biographical check on the Chief of Army staff. I was amazed about how learned and scholarly he was, he even has a PhD. I was shocked and disappointed at my own naivety and ignorance, what a biased mind. I said to myself, I bet most of my Southern brethren and co-patriots will believe this gentleman got the job just because he is an Hausa / Fulani man like our Mr President, but from all indications and from all what I have read about him, he seems not only over qualified for the job when compared to previous holders of that post, but what the hell is such an erudite intellectual doing in a job that has always being the behove of mutineers, scallywags and vagabonds, It was then I concluded and also realised one thing has being evasive all along in most people’s thought, tribalism and nepotism has made us fail to see the similarities between General Dambazzau and his intellectual brother who happens to be Mr Acting President, they are intellectual comrade-in arms, no wonder Mr Acting President was quick to forgive him when troops were deployed illegally, did I just say forgive him, it should be no wonder they see things from the same angle, and we the public and Nigerians in general are enmeshed and hoodwinked in our own little world of tribal rebuttal, if one where to sit down and quietly analysis what the word Acting means as suppose to the word substantive it would not take long for one to draw a more sensible conclusion. If we are to look at what happened that night when the substantive President came to town from an intellectual angle without any pre-conception in our minds, one will have to agree that Jonathan even till this very moment is still Acting President, not President, not Vice President, but Acting President. The honest truth is Jonathan is not any difference from a Nigerian Nollywood Actor acting the role of Mr President in one of those low budget films made under the bridge at Ojuelegba or Oluwole. There is a new film Invictus about the South African Rugby world cup, Morgan Freeman acted Mandela. A simple question I will like to ask any intellectual inclined individual out there “ Is Morgan Freeman Mandela,” no Morgan Freeman is Morgan Freeman and Mandela is Mandela. If both Mandela and Morgan Freeman where in a classroom and a teacher say’s I want Mandela to stand up, who do u think will stand up Morgan Freeman Or Mandela, ladies and gentlemen I leave the answer to that question to your imagination. Now I think I have a clue and an insight of how a PhD’s mind work, how they reason, how they think things through and how they eventually despatch information, one cannot blame them for not being street wise like IBB, Abacha or Dongoyaro, at least by them not being streetwise they have not only saved our nascent democracy they have and are actually nudging the politicians not to drag the military into their silly skirmishes. We must give this General his kudo’s despite the cajoling from the cabals and the first lady urging him to grasp power when the ship called Nigeria was swinging from left to right in the high seas without anyone at the rudder to stir it to safety, the intellectual General not only declined but show the world he is made of sterner stuff. Let’s celebrate our first Phd Chief of Army Staff we might not get to see another one in our live time again. Hip ! Hip !! Hip!!! , Hooray !!!!!!!! |
This makes Britain seem really backward. The Americans once deported a group of American Somalian a while back. There was this story I saw not too sure whether it was on the net or TV, they were interviewed and the guys were speaking Yankee phonee, I felt for them but the Americans were adamant at the time. I don’t know what happened to them eventually. |
Don't mind the ingrates, I mean if it was in the U.S. they would heartly make the young man a Citizenanyway I'm not surprised by the british actions, they're known to be stingy sometimes so it has to do with themAccording to the UK law now, even if you are a Citizen u will still be deported. The only citizens that cannot be deported are citizens by birth. If u have a British Passport through marriage or residency and u start committing crimes. You will be stripped of that citizenship and deported. I know a young chap that came with his mum about 8 years ago, the mum made sure all her kids got British Passport. But the chap instead of him getting an honest job like most people started getting himself involved in credit card frauds. I was told he was caught trying to defraud the British military, obviously that kind of thing they will not take it lightly because of the security implication. He was caught and he served 3 years in jail after which he was deported. His mum and his sisters are still in England. Citizenship unlike the olden days does not mean u are untouchable. Today the award of citizenship should and must be seen as a privilege and not a right. |
The woman talks too much, where does she think she is, has she not grown out of that secondary school play ground mentality, playing ten-ten with what transpired within the cabinet is not what I will particulally call heroic. I see her utterances as a lip service and playing to the gallery, maybe to win favours from Jonathan, obviously that kind of attitude and misdeamanor will not be to everyone's taste. Discarding one of the fundermental principles of any goverment, the principle of collective responsibility is not to be glorified to say the least. It is understandable if she is no more in the cabinet when she gave that busy-body interview. |
As long as they are not running amok in Igboland, or at our borders yet, then I am comfortable. Thank God for the Idoma, Igala, Tiv and Jukon who provide a bulwark against these people. We Igbos need to prop up their borders, so they will not make any encroachment into Alaigbo. The Hausa / Fulani Herds men are Nigerians like u and me, as Nigerians they have the right to roam the four corners of this nation, it is their constitutional right. I dont think there is a clause in the constitution banning them from going into Igbo States. The bravado u exhibit here with regards to the fulani's venturing into Igbo land are what one can term as just empty hollow threats. However berging into people's farm is something the law enforcement agencies should address, if those responsible for upholding the law are found wanton, I dont think there is much the poor citizens of Ekiti can do but take laws into their hands. |
I think the cost might be too much for government to bear. The figure you gave there is way below what it will take to make this happen. 36,500 x 53,000= 1,900,500,00 or N1.9 BILLIION X 12= 23BILLION a year Infrastructure - 5 billion a year + 23 billion = 28 billion Naira a year in a 10 year period it would be N300billion naira or 2 billion dollars. Savings can be made by reducing the army to 60,000 men with more up to date hardware and merging the airforce and the navy together. Even the UK is thinking of merging their navy an airforce together for operational purposes. |
Obviously the setting up would gulp another money 3 bases per state, the HQ in the State Capital and Quarters or barracks for personnel, and 2 other bases outside the state capital. The State goverment may be asked to fund or contribute towards the living quarters for the Guardsmen afterall they would benefit imensley from the economic growth it will bring to the state especially rural states. |
Based on your proposal, i will like to have an idea what the yearly budget will look like.http://instacalc.com/ You can use billion Calculator to get the exact figure. It would cost 23,214, 000,000 or 23.214 billion Naira based on all 36,500 recruits a year getting N53,000.00 a month which is not the case. In a 10 year period it would Cost Nigeria 213 BILLION Naira or $1.45 Billion dollars. |
Runumeartion of the Miliatary Officers The Colonol in Chief would be paid N106,000.00 a month on top of his regular army pay. This amount is double the highest paid recruit which is the Phd at N53,000.00, that payment would be subject to increament as those in the Guard Service. This allowance will not to be paid to the Colonel in Chief if he cease to be the Colonel- Chief it is a payment that goes with the job and the responsibilty. The 2 Majors would be on N73,000.00 on top of their regular army pay why the Captain will get N53,000.00 to their regualr pay in the army. |
@SEUN Forgot to add each platoon would have 10 professional snipers. it means in a state there would be 25 snipers, 10 for each of the platoons outside the state capital and 5 in the platoon in the state capital . |
If it's voluntary, how is it different from just joining the police or the army? The National Guards have a lot more fire power than regular police, they are para-military , counter insurgency force like what is happening in the plains of plateau they would be able to operate there and get results. They are trained like the regular army but giving speacalist training like those of the British SAS or Navy Seals. The only difference is they have no tanks and artillery those are domains of the regular army. They would operate with fast jeeps like those open police jeeps and wear green uniforms not carmouflag. They would also be allowed to carry small explosives like grenades which the police dont carry. |
Make your idea actionable, by sending it to the National Assembly and following it up. It is not enough to be shouting it all over cyberspace. I am happy to accept a plagarized version of my idea from Nigerians on ground to push this forward through the necessary channells. Dont worry I will not sue anyone for plagarism. Anything to push Nigeria forward will make me and a lot of true patriots of Nigeria a happy man. |
The only thing i don't quite agree with is integration into the Nigerian army. This will turn things political, and the same problems of the Nigerian army will be introduced to the system. You did not read the whole peice. The Guards service would be lead by a Colonel or Lt Col. They would be assisted by 2 majors and 3 Captains at inception. It would take a period of 10 or 11 years before the privates get to that position. When the Privates gets to Captain they would be replacing all the military officers for good. That means there would not be any military Captain in the Guards Service at some point. As time goes the recruits would get to the post of Major they would replece all the professional Military men who are Majors. A time would come when the only Miliatary men in the Guards Service would be the Colonel-in Cheif. The Guards Captain and Major that came through the ranks would never join the regular army. The whole idea is for people to stay for the long haul. Everyone must be able or be seen to be able to attain the highest rank in the Guards Service which is Major. |
By taking 36 Colonels, 72 Majors, 108 Captains out of their boredom in the Army, Navy, and Airforce one would have created a proper Jobs for these idle fellows. Coup plotting would be somthing that would only exist in our distant memory and not something that will be clear and present danger. These officers would serve a minimum of 18 moths in one State and then move to another State. After doing a stint of 2 states they join their units in the army, Navy and Airforce for 24 months before the whole exercise repeats itself again provided they are still within those 3 ranks of Captain, Major and Colonel. |
Kay17 in conclusion, employ the entire labour of Nigeria?nation Any Country that is worth to be called a succesful nation should at least employ 20% of their labour force diractly or indirectly. 30 million people in Nigeria should be the target figure. |
Another good thing about the Guard Service would be, the 500 Guards men and women in the federal Capital terriotry would be In Charge of the Presidential Guards in Conjustion with Civilian Police. Some higly qualified Guardsmen might also work for the goverment as speech writers, special advisers and other ad hoc duties expected from them. The Much dreaded brigades of guard an Ibb creation and an anomaly should be allowed to go and show how good they are in the creeks of the delta. I would suggest they are moved out of Abuja and transferred to Yenogoa or Warri as a Commando Unit. At least the suprise we had when Mr Yaradua came back to the country would be somthing that will not repeat itself. |
[K17]a good source of underemployment, fantastic means to burn and destroy talents and skills amd brainpower.

It is the wisest way of re-distributing skilled labour in the country. Everybody wants to work in Lagos, Abuja and Port Hacourt. I remember when my junior brother finished his medicals at UI, he was working for a private hospital at Ibadan at the time, doing DC for N15,000.00 a month. Why has Yobe State recruituted Egyptian lab technician and call them Medical Doctors. Would it not be wise if a Nigerian Medical Doctor signs on with the Guard service as a Medical Doctor and gets posted to Yobe State, he would be getting N53,000.00 from the Guard Service and by working for Yobe State Gooverment he would be getting the full pay of a Junior Doctor say N100,000, is that not a lot less cheaper than the N500,000 paid to those Egyptian lab technicians. |
The Guards men unlike the Nigeria Police would not have a boss in Abuja like the IGP. ALL 36 Colonels are bosses and they would be giving equal budgets at the begining of the year to pay for their men and any other sundry expenses. They would be encorage to try start mechanised farming so that they can raise internal genearated revenues which in time could reduce the the money coming from the centre. The enterperise can take different forms depending on what can makes money in the local area. |
With time, the highest Guardsmen who attain the ranks of Captain and Major would be redeployed to replace all the Miliatary Captains and Majors. With time there would be no Military Captains and Majors in the Guard's Service. The Captains and Majors would be Guards men who went up through the ranks from Private. The only miliatary man that will not be changed is in the the Colonel - in - Chief who will always be a miliatary Officer. |
The idea will create employment but will they be paid? will they work in hamony? wunt it be tribalised. I heard a news that the army helped one of the factions in Jos during one of the crisis how do you feel the NGS won't do same.It is an open invitation and seniority is based on date of recruitiment just like SANs . That is why if u have a Phd and u have an O' Level u would both start at the bottom as a private Guardsmen. Even if your Father is the President u will not be able to be above someone who is ahead of u. Although the Phd rumenarition wise will get more than the O' Levels guy, rank wise they are equal. There would be know factions like Jos the Nigerian Military has being Politicalised that is why u have what is happening in Jos. The Ibbs and ABACHA's of these world have destroyed the Militatry it is better the Military face those threatning the soverignity of our nation than to be involved in internal conflict. The Guardsmen serving Pleateau State might come from Imo State and the Commanders would be from other states, therby limiting instances of taking sides. |
Also, 36,500 is not a very big number. I think 36,500 is a good number to start with, within a 10 year period it would have grown to 300,000 give or take a few thousands resign or retire early. |
Getting our graduates into more situations where they are likely to be killed is just a silly idea. Human life is more valuable than employment. Also, 36,500 is not a very big number. It is not mandatory u join up, u are better off joining than being unemployed, moreover the NYSC scheme which is compulsory will be be in existence. |
Another good thing is these men and women the guardsmen would boost the economies of those 2 other towns which are not the capital of the states, stimulating growth and commerce in 72 settelments nationwide. 36 x 2 = 72 towns. |
