Ok, let’s assume that the salary is re-distributed. At that current rate, here’s what the salary structure will look like for civil servants.

Old Salary               New Salary
NGN 7,500.00       NGN 99,975.00
NGN 50,000.00     NGN 666,500.00
NGN 70,000.00     NGN 933,100.00
NGN 100,000.00   NGN 1,333,000.00
NGN 120,000.00   NGN 1,599,600.00
NGN 150,000.00   NGN 1,999,500.00
NGN 200,000.00   NGN 2,666,000.00
NGN 225,000.00   NGN 2,999,250.00
NGN 250,000.00   NGN 3,332,500.00
NGN 300,000.00   NGN 3,999,000.00
NGN 350,000.00   NGN 4,665,500.00
NGN 500,000.00   NGN 6,665,000.00
NGN 1,000,000.00   NGN 13,330,000.00

Mr Man I can see u are in the US, is that how the US Public Administration throw money at her staff. Well I work the Public Service in th UK and the way it works is u have a higher start up Salary which tails out as u get to the N300,000.00 mark.

What it simply means is that the lowest paid worker would be paid 100,000.00 including all benefits if u live in london u get extra called london weighting which can also be applicable to Nigeria if u live in Lagos or Abuja.

So basic lowest maybe N89,000.00 IF U Live and work in Lagos or Abuja u get maybe another N12,000.00 MORE Bringing your income to 101,000.00

The middle cadre of the civil serveant who are more or less the soldier ants of the civil service are like 75 to 85% of the strenght of the civil service and their salaries are usually between 1.5 to 2 times that of the lowest paid worker for instance in the uk that interpretes to

Lowest paid civil servent 14,000.00 + 3000 London weighting =17,000.00

Middle cadre - between - 25,000 to 35,000

In Nigeria context that would mean between 150,000 and 200,000 75 to 85 % of the service

then in the UK at 37,400 upwards any income earned above this is taxed at 40% therby reducing your final take home. for instance if u are earning 40,000 in the UK. For everybody the 1st 6,500 is tax free, then everything from 6,500 to 37,400 is at 20%. The extra income of 2,600 would be taxed at 40%.

Using UK tax regime on the new pay in the Nigeria context that would interprete to anytihng above N220,000 WOULD BE 40%

Now the GRade 7's in the UK or DG'S in nigeria GET BETWEEN £50,000 And £75,000 and they only represent only about 5% of the service . THIS WOULD BE N300,000 and N450,000 dont forget they would be paying tax at 40% on any income above N220,000 in  Nigeria or £37,400 IN THE UK.

The remaing 10% are the lowest cadre the so called N100,000 a year in lagos and Abuja or 89,000 in the States.

The essence of this type of payment is to ensure that the lowest rank and file has a livable wage at the same time not over paying the upper echeloen of the service. It is not un-common for one to see a prudent lower cadre officer driving a better car than a middle or upper management who is not prudent who is a spendthrift

£17,000 - take home monthly - 1128,13 - IN Nigeria 100,000- 85,500

£25,000-take home monthly - 1597.83 IN Nigeria 250,000- 159,783

£35,000-take home monthly - 2172.85 IN Nigeria - 350,000- 217,285

£50,000 take home monthly -  2984.20 IN Nigeria - 500,000- 298,420.00

£75,000 take home monthly-  4213.37 IN Nigeria - 750,000- 421,337.00

You can see the highest and the lowest salary is X4. but majority of the civil servants are between 25,000 to 35,000 which represents about 75 to 85% of all workers.

The tax use in this demonstration is UK Tax rate not Nigeria of course we all know Nigerian tax regime is generous,  obviously it has to when they are paying someone N7,500.00 a month.

The money that can be redistributed is the money that can be accounted for.
Not when it is a bribe and people cant even account for it.
Why do u think all these people are taking them out of the nation? it is all cos they are not accounted for . . . and how do u redistribute what you cant account for?

It is accounted for in the annual budget.

Newspaper allowance
wardrobe allowance
Housing Allowance

And a host of other allowances.

they have a whole list of allowances culminating to the N40 million. It is accounted for in every budget. Even Yaradua wanted them to cut their salaries when he decided to cut the executives salary but the legislatures hold on to theirs.

2. Why is the exchange rate of naira 150+ to 1 dollar? Why can’t the Nigerian government just make it 1 to 1 or why is it not 1 to 1?

Find the answers to the above questions, and you will understand why you cannot just pump cash into the economy without “thinking.”

The cash is already in the economy we are talkning of redistribution of wealth already in the economy. - See my explanation above.

What sense does it make when someone is on 7,500 and another person is on 40 million does that other person have 2 heads. undecided

Chief, i cant say much about the times yu were talking about, however, this time, i can.
When you increase the salary sharply like that, it is a known fact that every other services and product's prices will be jacked up as well, and the cost of living will go up, and mind you, not the salary of everyone that would be increased, but not everyone works for the govt.
So what will be the need of increasing the salary that much, if you will turn around and give them to cab driver, Okada man?
Moderate increment might be aiight, but to 100K a month, i think that is too much

This country has misplaced priority at the moment we give a Senator 40 million a House of Reps guy N35 million.

Give them 3 million, if they dont want it,  millions of unemployed graduates in Nigerians would  apply for their Jobs. The saving which is 37 million would pay 370 civil servents salary at N100,000.00. That is just for one senator. We have 108 Senators that would be 39590 Federal Civil Servants on N100,000.00 a month.

Then we go to the House of Reps 470 members or there presently on about 35 million a year, give them 2.5 million that would be a saving of 32.5 million Naira per House of Reps. Do the maths 32.5 X 470 = N13 billion Naira

Divide 13 billion / 100,000 = 130,000 Civil servants on N100,000.00

If with what the Senators and House of Reps guys are earning is not presently causing  hyper inflation, I dont see why there would be hyper inflation if we re-distribute the income. We as a nation are already spending that amount,  we are only redistributing the wealth so that more people can benefit rather than just a previledge few.
Politics › Re: Civil Servants Demand N100,000 Minimum Wage by KnowAll(m): 8:44pm On Feb 26, 2010
No doubt they spent half of the treasury to save the president but that’s not the issue at hand. Can you explain how you can justify such a salary increase? What exactly will the civil servants be doing differently from what they did before?

Further, if the civil servants get such an increment, don’t you think the people that shop in the same market as them will suffer the effects?

Here’s how the scenario will play out:

Car dealer normally sells his allocation of 10 cars per month. Civil servants gets new raise and decides to finally buy cars they’ve been longing for. With cash in hand, they go to the dealer and clear out his lot in less than a week. For the remaining three weeks, the car dealer’s lot remained empty (demand is now greater than supply). The following month, the car dealer now knows that there is great demand for his cars, so he increased the price 50%.

Cab driver is in need of a new car. Got a loan from a bank and buys a car from car dealer for a 50% premium over last month’s price. Since he has to make profit and pay back the loan, he raises his fares 50%.

Trader normally takes a cab from his farm to the market. Trader is forced to pay a 50% increase in transportation cost. Since trader also has to turn profit, he raises his price 50%.

Car dealer’s wife goes to the market to shop and complains to the car dealer that she needs 50% more than was given last month due to price hike. Car dealer obliges but also raised his selling price because the cars are still flying off his lot.

This whole cycle will continue until demand equals supply or when supply is greater than demand. That occurs when people can no longer afford to pay the higher prices and refuse to buy the dealer’s cars.

Economics 101 – Demand vs. Supply as it relates to inflation.

PS: I’ve never taken an economic class:-

We did not have all this scenerio u described above when our nation was the highest paying nation on Earth in 1975, during the Udoji awards in 1975. The lowest paid goverment worker in Nigeria was getting more than the lowest paid worker in the US and Britain,  In fact we maintained that high livable wage right up to 1985 when IBB took over.

During the hey days of Udoji my father built a house in Ibadan in 1980 the bricklayers, carpenters, Terrazzo men all had new pick up trucks or what we call panel van in Nigeria they bought them new for N4,000.00, we never had hyper inflation then. Why would we have it  now ?

that your Economics 101 theory would not wash Mr man ?
Politics › Re: Civil Servants Demand N100,000 Minimum Wage by KnowAll(m): 7:50pm On Feb 26, 2010
I think what they should demand is a cost-of-living increase so that their purchasing power raise with inflation.

Even ignoring where the money will come from, what do they think will happen when salaries get increased 1333%? Hyperinflation!

Don’t they think everybody else will want their own share of the increment? I find puzzling that leaders like that are provided a platform and audience to spew their senseless thoughts.

I disagree with u, do u know how much the FG has spent on all this Yaradua sickness adventure, Hotel bills for pilots and the governors  going back and forth, I bet if it is not up to half of or even more than what the Federal Civil Servants total salaries I would be susprise.

I would have love it for Jonathan to resign, but who would be waiting in the wings t to take over James Ibori, it is better he stays put. All Jonathan wanted to be initially in life was run for his LG Chairman. I spoke to one guy who knows him well, when he got to the LG to present himself as a candidate, the people realise and thought to themselves how come this well read man wants to run for LG Chairmanship they were aghast.

Word went round to Alams who was looking for a well read man to be his deputy, he was informed about the guy who has a Ph.d who wants to run for Chairmanship for a LG .

Alams who was a rtr Deputy Suretendent of Police on seeing GJ liked him and made him his deputy.

Thanks but with all due respect you failed to answer my questions.

What I am saying is we can do without rotation, when OBJ was made President in 1999 it was not based on North or South. But having spent 8 years at the healms of affairs he felt for equity between the North and South it would be worthwhile to give the Presidency to the North for 8 years.

What this post is about is we don’t need rotation for a southerner to be president all we need is strong alliance of SS, SW,SE, Middlebelters and Northern Christians.

In the event of that not happening then David Mark is a better evil when u are stuck with the devil and the deep blue sea.

Whoever post this bull*** wants to safe the Acting President from the embarrassment that was bestowed on him when the body or the wire being of Yaradua was summarily deported from SA.

The fact is GJ has not got the guts to sack the Chief of Army Staff who undermined his authority. What any real powerful CinC would do is send some troops into the President’s living quarters in other to ascertain the real state of the Presidents health.

On a second thought that can be construed as an insensitive move and could back fire,  the most likely way forward is probably this spin written above here to safe face, a no winner no vanquish solution to a very serious breach of both protocol and security  undecided

David Mark is one of the biggest criminals Nigeria has ever seen (he is no better than Bankole, even worse). He is only behaving because of intense US actions.
The Whole World has viewed the problems in Nigeria and believe they have found a nugget in Jonathan; they believe he has the incredible qualities required to turn Nigeria round. I can bet that, he will either pull Obama on a state visit or there will be repeated visits from World leaders of the calibre we've witnessed so early in his regime; he will put us back on the World stage, especially if he accomplishes free and fair elections.

True Jonathan would have being the best candidate for top job next year, but the un written alliance of the PDP would have to be adhered to satisfy the North, David Mark is a lesser evil than the Yaradua’s in laws.

And why would you want to abandon rotation now that the SW has done 8 years at Aso Rock?

The SW is not thorn within itself; the most influential SW man got the Presidency which the country needed at the time because of his experience in the Military. He is not necessary the best candidate but a compromise candidate to nurture our nascent democracy.

That worked well at the time, we had 8 years of growth and optimism, our external debts were wiped out by OBJ. He left 52 billion dollars in the coffers to this Mallam we have now,  where do u think we are today ? , this Mallam has not only destroyed the economy by their clueless Banking Policy but is in the process of destroying the Political Process.

The Military has it stands today has being destroyed, people in the military would be speaking with a hush tone to one and another, why give the mandate to this backward people all the good work OBJ did in ensuring democracy is rooted in our culture has being destroyed by the invasion  by Madame First lady and her motley crew.

David Mark might be a compromised candidate for the North to stabilise things as it stands.

In fact you are more Nigerian than the Hausa / Fulani who are spread all over sub-Saharan African. If this group can work together against the Hausa / Fulani  Haegenomy who has turned our nation into to a nation at the bottom of the poverty index we would move and surge up that ladder within a 5 year period. The growth the economy experinced just within the 2 week period of Jonathans Presidency if proper data is collated would be unprecidented. If the CBN relases the figure of money that poured into the economy from abroad within the last 2 weeks, I can bet my last dollar, Naira or pounds it would be more than the last 3 months of last year minus December. December being Christmas is a different month on its own.

If this can happen in 2 weeks just imagine what can be acheived in 4 or 8 years. A new party should be formed call the Nigeria National Grand Alliance and it would include foward thinking SS,SW,SE,Middle Belters and Sothern Kaduna and other Christain Minorty States like Taraba and Adamawa. Progressive North Central and North Western and other progressive  Hausa / Fulani should also be let into the group.

PDP has being hyjacked by the Kano and Katsina Mafia, How can one explain the Presidency and VP of the same party at logger heads. Political Party members are meant to be their brother's keeper irrespective of tribe. How come Yaradua and Jonathan cannot work together for the progress  of  Nigeria beats once's imagination.

I wrote an article ages ago that the Minimum wage in Nigeria should actually be N200,000.00 a month in fact I would look for it and re-post here today. If u dont pay them that much the people who would consume the money are the Likes like Mrs Yaradua and her Kitchen Cabinet. If the FG wage bill increases there would be little in the kitty to steal, the country would start using its common sense on how to prioritise resources to areas that needs them the most.

Look at UK today today they are going to cut the public services bill, what that means a lot of civil servents are going to lose their jobs. The difference is that they would be well compensated and those that remain after the pruning exercise would have even better living wages.

It would appear the accolades and records Nigeria has broken within the past 3 months is insummantable. We keep on breaking our own record even b4 anybody else attempt to try it. We are the first Nation on Earth,  with a President exercising his executive might from the intensive care unit of an Hospital. That he managed to do for about 70 days b4 the mugu population and leaders realise that this mass hynoptism has run its course and must be broken is a record worthy to be in the Guiness book of Record. Looks like somebody found an antidote to the medecine the marabaours or islamic religious scholars where using on us as a population at large.  Abi na TB Joshua  undecided

Like a Husband who has  just discovered the love spell his wife has being using on him, the NASS made a swift decision on the 12th of February 2010. I doubt if there was any deliberation within the NASS b4 such an important pronoucement was made by the NASS it took everyone by suprise. One could feel a sense of optimisim throughout the land.

It was like a new begining, smiles where on everyone's face  from the high and mighty Senators to the low and hard working but poor omo Lanke super, from the Ex Presidents or Elder Statemen to the agberos plying their trades all over Nigeria there was a huge broad smile in everyones face.

What a difference 2 weeks can be in politics, I thought " the popular saying was a week is too long in Politics" to imagine what the terrane would be 2 weeks in Politics is something I have never really thought of for a minute. But from the evidence on the ground today, it is clear there has being a titannic shift in the Political Terrane. When those Planes started hovering around Abuja in the Middle of the Night it was like an Invasion force from Planet Zuck, the citizens could hear the activities going on around them but pretend to be asleep, so could the Minister's, the Acting
President Who probably has a 1 million and 1 questions running in his mind at once, one such question would be "

The Cheif Army Staff did not tell me there was a miliatary exercise taking place today even if it is a specialist Night Maneuvering exercise to improve our armed forces Night fighting capability, I am sure there are more than enough open spaces where such training exercise can be carried out,  not so close to Aso Rock".  Or is it a Coup, Dambazau has always assured me,  not with the kind of mouth watering incentives we are giving him on daily basis. Why does this stipid woman not go back to sleep and pretend like everyone else, this is the 10th time I have assured my wife that I am fully aware of what is going on.

Day break - The Pretending Senators continue their daily business as if noting happened, not even acknowledging the  noisy return of our supposedly authentic CinC. Majourity of them know that there cannot be a murder without a body. They were confident that the information giving to them by the US's CIA cannot be wrong hence their elevation of the VP to President. There problem now is how do they see  either the wired up Yaradua or the dead body. This proposer or thought has a fat chance of becoming a reality, that woman would use every trick in the book to block them from seeing her husband they are stuck with this dead body.  undecided

Chances are Nigeria might be the first country where a dead man would rule for 14 months, if we can acheive this feat, we would have added to the accolades that we have already had. Some likely candidates for the elections next year for a dead country like ours ruled by dead people are

The Sarduna of Sokoto for President -Ahmadu Bello should run on behalf of the PDP next year.

Chuba Okadigbo should be positioned as Senate President.

Tafawa Balewa should be the Sec to the FG.

If anybody wants to disprove the status of Yaradua show us yaradua in whatever state he is,  otherwise he is long dead. Nigerians Enjoy the next 14 months, some good might come out of this, what he cannot do when he was alive he might be able to acheive when he is dead that would be yet another accolade worthy of making the Guiness Book of Record.   lipsrsealed

That Yoruba King in Jos is on his own, if the berom’s or is it the Hausa’s if they like they should kill him and make suya from his body it would not move a hair from my head. The Igbos started this stupid parallel kingship in Nigerian Towns and Cities. How can u have the Gwom Gwon of Jos as the King of the Beroms and in the same town have a Yoruba King, an Igbo King and a Seriki Hausawa in Jos. I think all these minor Kings are undermining the authority of the Gwom Gwon of Jos, the State goverment or is it the LG Chairman that has the power should disband this rival Kings from parading themselves as Kings henceforth.

Is there an Hausa King in Oyo Town or an Igbo King in Ile-Ife the Ooni or the Alaafin would not allow such nonsense in their domain.

Secondly Yoruba’s believe in hierarchical Kingship not all Kings are the same. There are 1st class Kings and second class Kings, so also there are Baales who are not King but literally it means “ Father of the Land “. A King in Yoruba land wears a crown, this Idiots who travelled to other peoples land and start calling themselves King who Crowned them. Do they have any historical linage to this unknown or unheard throne if they do where is the proof.

They should not even attempt to call themselves Baale of the Yorubas in Jos because that would interpret to the Yoruba’s being landowners in Jos which would put them in a direct conflict with the locals. The Yorubas in Jos who came there as some kind of artisan or the other either as a driver, tailor, carpenter, bricklayer or businessman should face their businesses squarely and desist from getting themselves involve from this anomaly created by the Kingless Igbos.

Yorubas can have a Yoruba Society or club in Jos with a Chairman or President but King is a No-No and a no go area.

Unfortunately that rule is a figment of immagination of certain people. If you want your immaginary rule to continue then please push for it to be backed by a section of the electoral act reform document. Those who may have been present during rotation policy are not even active members of PDP today! So for that rule to continue it has to be reviewed and backed by a document in the electoral act because there is no proof that if a Northerner takes over in 2011 he will not want to run for a second term in 2015.

I wont call an unwritten gentlemen's agreement which is already in the public domain a figment of anybody's imagination. Even those who are least intreasted in politics are aware of this unwritten rule, it is as real as the country called Nigeria except Nigeria is a figement of someone's imagination.

Jonathan a top member of the PDP, the previous VP of the nation who is meant to be a guardian and custodian of this unwritten rule cannot come out today and say he does not know such rule exist when people like you and I knows it exist otherwise we would not be talking about it today.

so its up to a section of the country to determine who runs for President?

No it is not up to a section, it is up to an unwritten constituion within the PDP to rotate the Presidency every 8 years between Southern Nigeria and Northern Nigeria. Unfortunately Jonathan is a member of the PDP hence he has to abide by their rules. However he might want to run next year, that dream or reality cannot be acheived with the bunch of ministers at his disposal at the moment.

I heard he works from 7:00 am to 11 :00 PM since he took over, what he needs is 30 men and women who are prepared to put their money where their mouth is. Wake at 7:00 and finish at 11:00 not necessarily literally, but people who share the same vision. If you put the money on the table no matter how huge the project is, it would be done. Afterall men in the past attempted to build the Tower of babel in other to see the face of God. If men are determined they can move mountains.

Why must Duke be at the bottom of the ticket? why not

Duke / El-Rufai

Same reason why Jonathan cannot run. If at all the Northerners would allow a Southerner to run dont u think they would prefer to do business with an acting President they know than some body that they dont know.
