➜You are not getting it, are you? The public space, in my argument, is not you and I, but the people she reported internal matters to, instead of reporting to the school management. A crime might, of course, become a public affair, except in very rare cases. But that is not my argument.
➜My argument is that the headmistress heard about an incident in her school through an outsider whom the complainant (a staff of the school) told. You don't know how disrespectful that is. Let me give you an instance. You are at work, and someone calls you that your husband told him that you didn't leave money for breakfast. Would it not sound disrespectful to you that an internal issue had to be communicated to you, not by a member of your household, but by an outsider? You don't take internal matters straight to the public, that is my argument. And when I say public, I meant the people she took the matter to.
😩😩😩😩😩

Is the victim in question a property of the school business such that any crimes or violations of his basic human right should be handled not by the police who are in charge of enforcing rights and law in the country but by the school/headmistress? undecided

2. Is the complainant a property of the school rather than a citizen of the country— Nigeria — whose law clearly states that assault is against the Law and should be reported? What in the world is up with you people? The crime may have been committed in the school but last I checked the school is not a sovereign entity that you should think to assert its jurisdiction over what should be common sense in the country itself. undecided

➜Mr sociopath, so you haven’t seen a mother slap her own child before.
➜Even though it is wrong, does it mean she’s trying to kill her own child too.
A mother slapping her child is said to have assaulted her child. All those ADs against violence in the homes are there to help make people like you sensitive about such things and quickly run to report it when you see it because such things are not normal or should no longer be seen as normal. undecided

So, it is only when someone is being killed that you would consider it a crime. 😩😩😩😩😩

I've seen how you're very committed to arguing with everyone with a divergent view from yours on this thread, and I have absolutely no intentions to do same. I've said my piece and my perspective makes sense to me. Stick to yours, since it feels right to you.
So, if you or your mother are slapped by a person out there on the street, you will choose to brush it off each time even though the law which guides interaction between citizens clearly states that assault of any kind is a crime? 😩😩😩

I am really trying my best here to understand how folks like you reason these things. huh

➜Stop shifting the goalpost. The woman ran to her pastor, not the police. And the argument was never about the police. It was about taking a matter straight to the public.
So, if she had gone directly to the police rather than to her pastor, the matter would have been kept from public space? 😩😩😩😩

What is wrong with the way you folks reason for Pete's sake? undecided

➜Whatever! Na something God go use uplift person. I just pity that teacher. Make dem have mercy on her biko. Make dem settle the matter amicably. It's well with you, boy. Your mama should have saved the you early enough. Early approach would have saved the culprit from this public ridicule and unnecessary litigation. Your don kept complaining, but you probably felt you should keep quiet about it until someone gave you an evidence. That wasn't quite good a decision, ma. ➜Everything about Nigerians is sensationalism. We have this repulsive habit of giving maximum energy to minor issues. A primary school teacher goes overboard with the discipline of a child, yes she did wrong. Ordinarily, her sack should be enough of a disciplinary measure while the school puts more efforts into the reorientation of its staff. But trust Nigerians to always get emotional and overly animated. Police has entered. Government ministry has entered. Bloggers have now entered. We'll end up seeing dozens of articles related to this one issue on the front page for the next one week huh.
A citizen was assaulted, a minor at that, and your response is that the sacking of the assaulted who happened to be a teacher should be enough. If this kid had been assaulted by an unemployed person, would you have advised on that case that the person be let go since he has no job? huh

Reasoning the way some of you reason things leaves my skin crawling for days even weeks sometimes. 😩😩😩😩

➜The mother of the boy did not handle it well professionally. She should be sacked too. Something happened in the school, you didn't report to the school management, instead you took a recording of the incident and showed it to your pastor who was now the one that called the headmistress. Is that how it should be? There is a hierarchy in every workplace. What happens in the class that needs serious attending to should first get to the school management before getting to the public. Since the school management already had a policy against corporal punishment, why didn't she report the matter to the headmistress?
What is this one rambling about for Pete's sake! huh

➜I am very sad for the Teacher and dear child. Teachers and Educators must always exercise restraint when engaging with learners. If a person is temperamental then he or she should not teach especially minors. It is easy to lose tempers but when one considers their age and weakness then adequate patience must be applied when teaching them. It is a sad event. I pray the child's ear has not been hurt by the battering....
The teacher is the culprit in this case and should be appropriately docked by the law so she serves as an example for others who have issues with managing their anger issues. undecided

➜In this interview with IMOLEAYO OYEDEYI, widowed mother of a three-year-old pupil assaulted by a female teacher at Christ-Miltos Primary School, Ikorodu, Lagos, Mrs Adenike Okunlaya, recounts how the incident played out and her daily struggles to fend for her son since her husband’s death three years ago.
Can you explain how the whole incident happened?
The incident happened on Monday (January 6, 2025). I am also a teacher in the school. I teach Nursery Two, while my son is in Nursery One. On that very day, I was in my class while my colleague, the teacher in question, was also in her class. Suddenly, I heard, ‘Write six; write six’. Later, another colleague brought her phone to show me the video. So, I sent it to my phone and forwarded it to one of my friends.
Why is it still considered OK for a teacher to lay hands on a student even with child abuse/assault considered a crime in the same country? 😩😩😩😩😩
