Rather than pay off the debt, he decided to have it marked as debt for Nigerians(and future generations) to pay off so he can go on to say he has paid it off?

That you experience it too simply means you have close family ties, not because you are a Nigerian or because of your local traditions. There are many others in your same village and Nigeria at large — Nigerians abroad not excluded—who don't have close family ties and would rather seek help from strangers than rely on those who they share blood with. This delusion that because you experience it, then everyone else should is the self-centered reason that never works out for any people.

I bet it also never occurred much to you before you made the statement regarding people relying on family that there are orphans — without family ties of any sort — in your very communities and villages. These people are everywhere and their numbers are not small considering the low mortality rate in Africa. The problem is that they are generally traditionally ignored; traditional systems in Africa generally pretend these people don't exist and so their welfare is completely ignored right from the grassroots level. So, any wonder why at the LG, State, and National level, there are barely any programs available to care for them? There are so many things traditionally wrong with the value system in Nigeria.

3. That has never been true of the Western culture I know and millions have lived in. As I was discussing with someone the other day, it dawned on me how so much better the Oyinbo style is towards those who have nothing; these people are generally looked down on or completely ignored in your traditional setups in Nigeria. 4. A woman is equal to a man and that is a fact. Why is a tradition that subjugated a woman any better? Nigeria has recorded a reduction in petrol importation following the ‘removal of fuel subsidy’ by President Bola Tinubu in May 2023.
According to the latest petroleum products distribution statistics report of the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS), petrol imports dropped by 3.58 billion litres in the second half of 2023 compared to the first half of the year.
The country imported 8.36 billion litres of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) in H2 2023, a significant decrease from the 11.94 billion litres imported in H1 2023, marking a 29.99% reduction.
This downward trend is even more notable when compared to H2 2022. In the latter half of 2022, petrol imports stood at 11.98 billion litres, resulting in a 30.22% drop when compared to H2 2023, which is equivalent to a reduction of 3.62 billion litres.
Also, for the entire year of 2023, Nigeria imported 20.30 billion litres of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), which is a decrease from the 23.54 billion litres imported in 2022. This reflects a reduction of approximately 13.77% year-on-year.
These figures highlight the profound impact of the subsidy removal on the volume of petrol imported into the country.
