This is wickedness! There are clearly too many states in Nigeria as it is given that the vast majority continue to exist on life support. What is instead needed is for non-viable States to be merged back into other states so resources can go to better use in developing these spaces.

All of that is still not enough of a reason why the idea cannot come even from the Federal. There are states in every region that have proven not viable. I don't see how a call for the merging of non-viable states in every region constitutes tribalism.

I see what you are trying to say there but I don't believe there is anything in the constitution that specifically states that the idea cannot come from the Federal level. Yes, agreement would have to be reached on whether the two states would agree to it but the idea itself can come from anywhere including the federal.

If a state/company is not viable and hence not able to pay salaries, then it should be scrapped — merged back from the state it came from. The power to do that at least comes from the federal, does it not? These states that exist merely as unnecessary bloats to the system were created at the federal level, not at the state level, where they not?
