You would know this from the details contained in the statements made by Paul regarding the gatherings, particularly his many suggestions regarding prophets and prophecies.

26 So, brothers and sisters, what should you do? When you meet together, one person has a song, another has a teaching, and another has a new truth from God. One person speaks in a different language, and another interprets that language. The purpose of whatever you do should be to help everyone grow stronger in faith.
27 When you meet together, if anyone speaks to the group in a different language, it should be only two or no more than three people who do this. And they should speak one after the other. And someone else should interpret what they say.
28 But if there is no interpreter, then anyone who speaks in a different language should be quiet in the church meeting. They should speak only to themselves and to God.

So, if you closely examine what Paul said in the above passage, it becomes clear, that the church He mentioned in this case was not a gathering of believers or followers of Jesus Christ but rather a gathering that consisted of children of Isreal – sinners and non-sinners alike — to whom the Spirit of Prophesy promised by God to all the young men and women in the land at the time had descended upon - Joel 2 vs 28 - 31. In His Gospel, Jesus Christ made clear that He was the last prophet sent by God to the people of Israel. And it is important to note that unlike the God of Israel —YHWH —who declared in His Law that He would send prophets out among His people, Israel, in His Name, Jesus Christ never instituted an office of prophets in the Kingdom of God. This means that all the prophets — including the spirit of prophets proclaimed even in the book of Acts belonged not to the Kingdom of God but to the Old Law of Moses.

“After this, I will pour out my Spirit on all kinds of people. Your sons and daughters will prophesy, your old men will have dreams,
and your young men will see visions. In those days I will pour out my Spirit even on servants, both men and women. - Joel 2 vs 28 - 29

The spirit of prophecy came upon all young men and women— including those who were already born-again at the time — in the land during the last days as prophesied by Joel and as such there were gatherings where people came together to exchange information on messages revealed to them. Paul stressed that all those in attendance of such meetings ought to honor the Law of Moses during those gatherings because they were concerned with issues of the Old traditions and not the New.

Jesus Christ did not set up a System of Prophets, Pastors, at the likes, in His name; he did not send any prophets or pastors out in His name either. So, any and everyone who comes claiming to be sent out as a religious leader in the name of Jesus Christ is a liar and a thief.

Note the last statement, FOR THE EDIFYING OF THE BODY OF CHRIST... CAN THIEVES EDIFY THE BODY OF CHRIST.?

If those whom you listed were in fact sent from God then why didn't Paul himself heed any of the warnings given to him by many of the same prophets of the time he lived in? I believe that once you find the answer to that, you will come closer to understanding what Paul may have in fact meant by the statements in that passage.

By the way, I don't follow Paul. I instead follow Jesus Christ who made clear that He sent no shepherds(pastors) after His person.

A metaphor is a direct comparison between two unlike objects in order to bring out the similarities which exist between them.
In the bread metaphor, Jesus was making a comparison between himself a stable food which most people can't do without. I hope by this, you can now see the point of the comparison .

OP's claim is that the all of the "I am" statements in John are metaphorical, and I said they aren't all metaphorical. I haven't examined all of them myself but I have at least shown by way of the example before now that OP's claim is incorrect.

▶ To the " I am the bread of Life," statement, let's examine what Jesus Christ is recorded to have said in the passages below.

53 Jesus said, “Believe me when I say that you must eat the body of the Son of Man, and you must drink his blood. If you don’t do this, you have no real life.

Jesus Christ broke literal bread and said, “Take this bread and eat it. It is my body.” He equally poured out literal wine and said, "This wine is my blood, which will be poured out to forgive the sins of many and begin the new agreement from God to his people." The same Jesus Christ is recorded to have said that those who eat His body(bread) and drink His blood(wine) will receive His Eternal Life — the life of a man is in His blood. Hence, the bread of Life is essentially the literal bread you eat that Jesus Christ is His body. Does this ring as some metaphorical speak to you?

■ What is being said is that the historic Jesus never spoke all those "i am" plus metaphor statements. If he did then all the synoptic Gospels should have them and it won't be found only in John! John was written last among the Gospel and it is the most developed and worked on!
■ In the New Testament, passages like Matthew 11:10 and Mark 1:2-3 explicitly connect Malachi 3:1 to John the Baptist and Jesus.

Again, the statements written by John were not metaphorical. Jesus Christ was the literal resurrection and the literal Eternal Life that the Israelites were promised by their God. They literally sought to obtain these things and the one who embodied it — and the resurrection and the Life turned flesh — is the one who showed up to the temple and taught them of God's New agreement.

1 The Lord All-Powerful says, “I am sending my messenger to prepare the way for me. Then suddenly, the Lord you are looking for will come to his temple. Yes, the messenger you are waiting for, the one who will tell about my agreement, is really coming! - Malachi 3 vs 1

What Matthew 11:10 and Mark 1:2-3 instead connect to the person of John the Baptist is what is written of the messenger to tell about the new agreement. The Lord who showed up to the temple is not John, the Baptist.

I have been taken in the Spirit to both places. It remains fresh in my memory like it's overnight.
These happened in December 22nd, 23rd, 24th, and 26th, 27th, and 28th year 2014. If I say our LORD JESUS CHRIST did not show them to me, I'd be denying the truth of the Spirit of GOD, and be the same confused liar, a mislead, and misled like you are.

The Israelites believe their God bestows on the righteous among them literal immortality(Life), the ability to live forever. They equally believe that their God will literally resurrect the righteous who are dead — sleeping in the grave — from the dead. When Jesus Christ said, "I am the resurrection and the Life, " Jesus Christ literally meant that He is the very resurrection that they are waiting for and He is also the eternal life that the righteous among them receive. When the time of the resurrection arrives, Jesus Christ, the eternal Life of God, is the signal to raise them back to life.
