Icon79: Haha!! Yup, we call him Pa. The man is almost 90 years now, if not more.
Oh, your former school coach was an assistant to Pa Oni, huh? Oh boy, naija footie don suffa sha!! Talk about two PE teachers taking Nigeria to the World Cup.
O pari Oh my school coach! My school coach was an ex international named Amusa Adisa and a goalkeeper trainer to 2002 WC. A silent achiever who discovered great players like Vincent Enyeama,Austin Ejide,Dele Aiyenugba,,ex Hull city star Seyi Olofinjana for super eagles,ex Polish international Emma Olisadebe etc. He coached Nigeria university football team to various world university games in US,Japan and Italy. If i may ask do you know where Keshi started his coaching career? He started with his daughter school in the States when the lady told the school that her Dad was ex WC player. Don't be surprised you see icon4s as a coach cos he is a certified one We have some solid coaches in our universities so do not berate them if you don't know, these are solid academy trainers who know talents when they see one. I can tell you numbers of ex international who have rose from school coach to sports director in tertiary institutions across the nation Remember i said i know a lot about 2002 WC than all these beer parlour rumour of $10k dollar coach. James Obiorah is a close pal and made the team displacing Wilson Oruma with MOTM performance,so he didn't forced his way in through $10k. |

tbaba1234: Sometimes losing now can help you in the tournament proper because you will understand your weaknesses. It also exposes the players that might not fit into your approach. You learn more from adversity than success.
Costa rica were battered left and right before last WC but during the tournament, they were tough to beat. Yes you are right but in defeat we must see prospects, not poor displayed in defeat. |

I think Rohr has zeroed his mind on looking for number 1 in this friendlies. For the main camp, he will invite one or two more players. Okay |

tbaba1234: I’ll be fine for Poland, Serbia friendlies, confirms Ebuehi
Super Eagles and ADO Den HAAG right-back, Tyronne Ebuehi has said he would be ready and fit for the two pre-World Cup friendly games against Poland in Wroclaw on March 23 and Serbia in London four days later.
Ebuehi, who was taken out injured in his club’s last weekend’s game, told AOIFootball.com exclusively from his base in Holland, that the extent of the injury he sustained is not as serious as first thought.
“I’m fine, just a little pain and stiffness in my hamstrings and groins, but nothing serious,” he said.
When asked if he would be back and fit in time for the Eagles’ games, he sounded hopeful.
“I have to see in the next few days, but I think so. I will certainly be ready and will work towards it,” he concluded.
Ebuehi was one of the shining lights when the Super Eagles came back from 2-0 down to shock Argentina’s Albiceleste 4-2 in a warm-up game in Krasnodar last November.

Icon4s: Haha, results are not the most important thing?
Putting the defence to test and trying different formations is still a test of whether you can get results under those conditions.
Though win or lose the only thing that will be affected is FIFA rankings but it is still very important we get results from those friendlies.
Every coach will want to go into a tournament with confidence from a good run of games I think Poland and Serbia would determines some players chances of making it to WC especially the goalkeeper,so clear cut performance is needed |

tbaba1234: Reuben in that game was horrible.. positionally out of place.. I remember thinking 'We are in big trouble' after watching him play for a few minutes. It was obvious that he was very rusty.
The midfield totally collapsed. No one was breaking up play. We paid the price for poor selection. Keshi did not call Reuben to his team again.
With better team selection, we would never have been in that place. I think substitution is to make a team better but sometimes it goes awry, fine Reuben did not meet up but wasn't to be blamed for the loss. Remember Mikel was out of it at WC,so we have so many factors that contributed to our loss against France I think we lost to Italy at US 94 due to poor substitution cos Adepoju and Oliha failed to cut Italy off and we paid dearly for it. Sir sometimes it happen but I know beating France even with Onazi was a tall dream, nobody gave our boys any chance. |

Daejoyoung: Keshi is quite tactical though. Remember he took a relatively unknown Togolese team to the world cup. With Nigeria(in friendly games for the nations cup), he also drew with the star studded Catalans as well as the ltalians. Yes my man for a coach to qualify Togo for WC and also had a stint with Mali and coached Nigeria to Afcon trophy and 2nd round WC,he deserves respect. I think he still remain best all time Nigeria coach waiting for Rohr to beat that record. |

tbaba1234: Afcon was in 2013, WC in 2014.. Form changes..
Ogude was in great form before the WC. He was terrific for his russian club. He should have called up. Igiebor was not a bad player either.
Reuben on the other hand was getting invitations even when he was not playing football. I think a moniker has addressed this,Keshi has faith in Reuben just like Rohr is having faith in Akpeyi. I remember Westerhoff sticked to Uche Okafor all through despite not having a good club career even as clubless he always made the team It happen in football and only coach can explain |

Yes you are right form changes but not all players have the same opportunity. Hope you watched Ogude and Igiebor at Afcon. I think i only missed Sunday Mba and Brown Ideye in that team.Ideye should have replaced Uchebo. |

Aluko, Igiebor, even Ogude would have added more quality. Sir pls remove Igiebor and Fengor Ogude. At Afcon Sunday Mba replaced ineffective Nosa Igiebor and Onazi replaced Fengor Ogude. Hope you remember Ogude was a starter at Afcon with woeful displayed until Onazi step in and gave us a balance. |

tbaba1234: We lost the midfield battle immediately Onazi was injured. From there, we were under serious pressure and it was only a matter of time.
The game would have remained balanced if Onazi stayed. We could have had a chance to equalize if they scored us. Immediately he left, there was only one winner.
With a quality replacement, the game could have remained balanced. Yes Onazi injury affected us but i don't shared that popular belief that we lost due to it. Enyeama failed us when it matter most and Keshi said it. Sir we lost to a superior team beating France would have been one of the greatest upsets at 2014 WC. |

forgiveness: Remove Ramon Azeez from the list. Except you believe Etebor and Ndidi are useless and don't deserve to be called up for this coming WC. Forgiveness--Azeez should be removed Icon4s--Nwofor and Uzoenyi should be removed Kog45-- Kunle Odunlami should be removed if Egwueke is not on the list and i think Odunlami replaced Echiejele and also had wonderful CHAN and made CHAN all star team as best CB Thegoodjoe--Shola Ameobi, gave good reason why Shola merited his place,Keshi like big striker and his MOTM against Italy was a class. Michael Uchebo? Honestly who to replace these players. |

tbaba1234: . With a little more quality on the bench, we could have taken the France game to extra time, maybe even nicked it. Quality?well it makes the difference sometimes but generally not cos despite our quality we lost to Denmark 4 goals to 1 at France for 98. I think Keshi team lost to a better side and those two goals really exposed Enyeama especially first goal,a good keeper on air would have no problem with first goal. The second goal,Enyeama supposed to stay put cos Yobo was already on but Enyeama came out and we conceded own goal. I think we lost to a good team. |

TheGoodJoe:
This was a regular occurrence with those who repeatedly criticised Keshi's selections. Keshi got criticised on people's yardstick and not on the yardstick of the manager.
For instance, the criticism of the inclusion of Azeez and suggesting Nosa and Aluko when Azeez can play as a defensive midfielder while Aluko and Nosa do not play that role.
Some criticised the inclusion of Shola Ameobi, forgetting that Keshi liked big strikers like Bright Dike, Emenike, Ideye etc.
Keshi liked to make gambles. Lot of times came out right. Like the case of Mba and Babatunde that drew criticism but showed quality in tourneys they played.
Keshi deserves praise for impacts for instance despite the lack of quality players was able to match a star studded French side and the French resorting to injuring our players to get Keshi's team knocked out. GBAM!Thegoodjoe you scarce nowadays |

tbaba1234: Look at Etebo in Las palmas, Ndidi in Leicester... Those are players clearly in great form for their teams.
Azeez had a few good games but he was anonymous several times for his team. That said, I believe, he made the WC team on merit but he should never have been a first choice sub.
Aluko and Igiebor on pure quality should have been there. I thought Nosa Igiebor had a woeful performance at afcon and later replaced by Sunday Mba at afcon. Spot on Aluko but i would have preferred Mba making the team at the expense of Azeez. |

tbaba1234: He was like Keshi's adopted son. Too much faith in the boy even when he was not playing.
For purely footballing reasons, there is no way Reuben should have been in the national team. Yes Keshi believe so much on Rueben and i remember when he came into the scene a lot of fans believe a star has arrived before injury sidelined him. Any updates on Ebuhei injury |

I know the two will not make it.very glaring and we cannot take both Ezenwa and Ajiboye to WC and Alampasu being inactive narrow his chances but can Rohr made such declaration at this stage. |

And while on that same topic, I can prove that it was it Pa Oni who first turned the Super Eagles camp into a business center prior to Japan-Korea 2002 World Cup. The going rate then was $10,000 per junk player. I personally know how Efe Sodjie made that world cup team.

ChrisKels: And that's good enough an excuse when he can hardly execute his primary assignment which lies upfront?
As a winger, ur primary assignment is an efficient attacking input followed by defensive contributions which is secondary.
I av bn seeing Gent matches lately because of Esiti, and can tell u Moses hasn't been contributing more defensively to Gent than Kalu. Initially, Moses's fans pride themselves over his unofficial appointment as the free kick taker for Gent, lol, guess who has assumed that mantle now and has been delivering... Your guess is as good as mine and if he wasn't better than Moses, he wouldn't have been assigned that duty after it was strapped off Simon. Just as Moses was once Gent's golden boy, Kalu is their present golden boy and he is highly celebrated by Gent's fans. He is wanted by a host of clubs in the top leagues and I expect him to leave by summer. Until Henry's unfortunate injury, he was the only Nigerian winger better than Kalu amongst the players plying their trade in Belgium.
Stat wise, the likes of Olayinka and Bonaventure have even done better than Moses this season. We need to tell ourselves the truth... Yes your last paragraph nailed it. |
