Icon79: Actually, it wasn't just Reuben alone. We can excuse him if he had fumbled on only one or two players, but Keshi fumbled on:
Michael Uchebo Shola Ameobi Ejike Uzoenyi Kunle Odunlami Ramon Azeez Uche Nwofor
And I can go on and on. So it wasn't just one player. The entire bench was useless - sold to the highest bidder.
O pari Yes O pari master but specifically Reuben was mentioned being a clubless player. I think others are not clubless,so possible they merited it and tell me players that are supposed to make the team. I remember Elderson Echiejele was dropped due to injury, Obiorah Nwankwo couldn't meet up,Fengor Ogude lost his place due to his performance at afcon 2013,Nosa Igiebor had a woeful afcon 2013,Uche IK lost out due to indiscipline, Sunday Mba after Afcon couldn't reproduced the same form and Brown Ideye had a very woeful performance at confederation cup. These are the member of Afcon 2013 that were dropped. Outside this Obafemi Martins was recalled but failed to impress,Joel Obi too couldn't meet up cos he was just coming back from injury, also Bright Dike had injury prior to WC Oh for highest bidder, pls can you prove it. |

Mujtahida: Sir I think tbaba1234 is justified in putting questions mark on Keshi's selection for the World Cup 2014. Your comparison with Westerhof taking Emanalo doesn't do justice to the truth. Look at Keshi's team to Brazil 2014. Only first 11. No bench. Is that what Westerhof did in 94? This shouldn't be about white coach or black coach. Look at the situation itself devoid of skin color. If Rohr does same he'd be criticized indeed some even still criticize his team selection and insinuate corruption. Keshi's selection for the WC was terrible. Was Keshi a terrible coach? No. He was a good coach who for reasons known to him and others like komekn made wrong selection. Doesn't come even a stretch close to Westerhof and Emanalo. Justice to the truth?for saying some foreign coaches too were culpable of the same thing.Sir apart from Emenalo, pls check out Uche Okafor stats before France 98 and tell me the difference between him and Gabriel. Pls did i compared, may be you should go back to the comment that drew my attention or do you think am happy with Keshi's selection?NO My point is simple, there is no basis for comparing the local and foreign cos the later is far better, truly Keshi messed up with Gabriel but we have seen some foreign ones who messed up on some players.YES or NO Did i try to make excuse for Gabriel inclusion? NO but some are ready to justify the inclusion of division four players cos foreign coach know what he is doing abi and they are ready to give excuse for Uche Okafor selection at France 98. I think bringing up negativism of local coaches to rate foreign ones just damn too much here,am a Nigerian and no matter what i don't ridicule my country men but doesn't mean i rate them higher than foreign one but some see nothing good in their fellow countrymen which i dislike. Sir Nigeria came into world football map in 1985 and till today we are still reaping that success cos it led to a rapid growth of Nigeria football and kudos to coaches like Sebastien Broderick, Willy Bazuaye,Chris Udemezue,Alabi Aisien,Paul Halmiton,James Peters,Jossy Lad,Joe Erico,Kafaru Alabi,Kadri Ikhana,Moses Otolorin,Kashimawo Laloko,Adegboyega Onigbinde,Christian Chuckwu etc These coaches suffered for the development of football in Nigeria. If not for these people i don't think we would be here talking football. I rememberr local coach came into the rescue when foreign one almost marred our WC chances but how many times did you see guys referring to such but when it comes to $10k baseless allegations, agents stuff local coaches received the sticks, forgetting that the duo of Westerhoff and Bonfrere Jo brought this into our system. Yes Keshi fumbled on Reuben Gabriel and Bora fumbled on Uche Okafor. My man just my opinion |

Whoever will campaign to terminate Alpha Beta contract in 2019 will win the election. Lagos state is run like a criminal cartel, with a godfather at the helm of affairs, who appoints his puppets and makes them funnel money to his various front companies like Alpha Beta and Visionscape. Whao what Saraki is to Kwara is what Tinubu is to Lagos but you see them ready to tear Saraki apart especially those TVC rented political analysts. |

Humility017: but emenalo was still active even though it was a local team every one knows...he was still playing...but in Gabriel case...he played no active football that season... which coach will do that? or call up....uchebo in place of imoh Ezekiel...or drop or ignore the likes of otigba just to part way for his boy azubiike egwekwe...
had it been an indigenous coach was still in charge...don't think some of this foreign groomed players will be on the GWG as it is today......
many a time the foreign coaches do better than the indigenous coaches not necessarily because they're better in tactics...but because of honesty and integrity....they uphold in team selection... My oga i believe you are one of the monikers who always understand my simple comments cos i know icon4s will surely understand my point. Pls read it again,I used Emenalo as a case study that not only local coach gamble but foreigners does.Emenalo left Nigeria in 1986 as a fringe eagles player went to states then Belgium later regional league with no clear performance and made WC team. Pls as a coach would you take such player to WC?did you know if Westerhoff was a local coach he would be called $10k coach. Let me tell you something about Rohr that make him different from other coaches,he really studied Nigeria political structure very well especially our NFF and only thing that can rubbish him is being biased and corruption and he learnt a lot after South Africa loss. Did you know a lot of accusations came up after that loss, allegations of agents influencing called up.The NFF instructed Rohr that they must vet his list through technical committee,so the man had his unique style of doing things. |

comodo: Emenalo was playing in USA, @ least he was kicking balls. But Gabriel?? Oh Keshi. Make I close mouth sha.I have not forgotten when Onazi was injured. I looked @ d bench and started weeping. Are you saying playing for university is good for national team cos i remember Emenalo was playing for university of Boston as a student but that was even before US 94. After he left university he joined Moleenbeek through Keshi link and later had his contract terminated and went to regional league in Germany equivalent of division four before he emerged from nowhere and made the team. My point is this there are some players coaches stick with irrespective of performance at club level in national team. I know if Rohr is a local coach a lot would have question continuous invitation of Agbo Uche, this is a player that had not played a single minutes even in friendly. I know Rohr as a local coach inviting Akpeyi would have been tagged a $10k bribe coach but as a foreigner he know what he is doing as if being a black man is a curse. That's was not even the issue but why berating local coaches just cos of Gabriel whereas we have some foreign coaches that have made some questionable decision and we always find excuses for them Truly the foreign coaches are the best and far better but the way some always come hard on our coaches without proof, like collecting 10k dollars before making WC,acts as agents, forgetting Westerhoff and Bonfrere Jo brought this to our system. Well Stephen Okechukwu Keshi won highest trophy in Africa which was Afcon and made 2nd round at WC that made him all time best Nigeria coach if we want to based it on time spent compared to Westerhoff 5 years I wish Rohr surpass this achievement cos anything short of quarter final at WC with this talented team would not be good enough cos am seeing some proposing lifetime contract,a good WC performance would do the talking and i wish my great eagles well and Rohr. |

tbaba1234: Emenalo was playing in Germany at the time, i believe. Reuben was not even playing football..
Keshi's selections were sometimes very baffling. Siasia's Olympic team, also very baffling, Oliseh, baffling..
You might disagree with some players called by Rohr but as a whole, the best Nigerian players bar a few are on the team.
Amodu, Keshi, Siasia and Oliseh are very good coaches though. Yes Emenalo played for Eintracht Trier in Germany,a regional league and prior to US 94 was clubless, meaning is not about local coaches but personality. I want to tell you Rohr is getting it right just cos he is sincere or do you want us to dig out atrocities of some foreign managers who handled eagles. |

tbaba1234: Rohr is a blessing to Nigerian football.
Look at the moves of Nigerian players, this winter..
Shehu Abdullahi moved to a better league Musa back to Russia Ideye, Etebo, Success, to la liga Kayode left where he was not playing Elderson found a new club where he can at least play
Everyone is looking to get active. On of the best transfer windows for Nigerian players.
In 2014, we carried a Rueben Gabriel who had not played football for 2 years to the WC. This is the difference between local coaches and foreign coaches. The coach pushed them to get active before the WC. Hmmm your last paragraph drew my attention and i want to say foreign coaches are better,no need for comparison. Oh Reuben Gabriel not played for two years taken to WC by Keshi but can you tell me where Westerhoff saw Mike Emenalo prior to US 94. I think no need to always berating our local coaches just to rate foreign ones cos we already knew foreign coaches are better. I still remember how a rooted local coach Shuaib Amodu saved us by qualifying for WC after the foreign one nearly denied us the opportunity. |

Otigba rejected an invite from Hungary to play for Nigeria even without assurances from Nigeria.
If Otigba bribed media houses and others to write glowing articles about him, perhaps he would have gotten invited.. Already, we see articles calling for Taye Taiwo, Austin elide etc to be invited for the world cup.
This same Nigeria invited players like Austin Oboaropkpo. Sir you are a class here |

andrew444: Loosing Kenny otigba,a player that was not a regular when he played for kasimpasa,a kasimpasa which Kenneth omeruo is always regular there, that guy is not better than any of our defender and Nigeria is a great footballing nation than Hungary Nobody was saying losing Otigba Nigerians should go and die Oh Omeruo regular, yes he should be cos it would be a disgrace for a WC player like Omeruo to sit on the bench. I thought Ekong was warming the bench in Belgian league before he moved to Turkey for regular playing time. I think Onazi is more of a bench warmer this season Experience Elderson Echiejele failed to make the cut in the same Turkish league now in Belgian 2nd division. Yes Nigeria is a great football than Hungary just like we are better than Austria (Alaba)and Switzerland (Akanji) My point is not about Otigba quality or his country but not always happy seeing Nigerians playing for another countries.Simple. |

Uche Agbo keep on getting invitation but very glaring who is he going to displace, does that stop his invitation. Now Eze,pls tell me who Eze is going to displace.but good for him Nwakili got invitation but did he displaced anyone So capping Otigba is not about who is going to displace. |

MetalJigsaw: For an average player, Nigeria lost?? we no need am I know this kind of comment will come up. The issue is not being average or his quality but he waa ready to play for Nigeria which should be commendable in the first place. Nigeria doesn't need him should not arise or he can't make the team not the issue but for showing great willingness is a plus. I can tell you as at the time Otigba was ready to pledge allegiance to Nigeria, him and Ekong were at par but Super eagles invitation changed Ekong game drastically not club football. Ekong failed to get a regular shirt in lowly Belgian league,so you cannot say what would have become of Otigba in GWG despite being average cos bunch of eagles defenders are average as individuals but not as a team. |
