Mr Seeni I am not sure where u can get a good Apartment in Abuja or Lagos for Naira 8000. Please explain what u mean by "good Apartment" ? Some Luxury apartment in PH and Lagos go for about $3000 PER MONTH. I would like to see where i can get an apartment that would cost Naira 8,000. Hey Adood i am glad you did not take the Job, Next time tell them that "Slavery is Over" |
Hey Zeus Great topic and thanks for the invite. Because we have Oil and Gas and out corrupt leaders are clearly fixated on those resources, we have not developed or rather tapped into our other natural resources. We can not make money from tourist externally, because you need to security for people coming to your country and even indigenes do not feel secure talkless of foreigners. But Nigerians also are to blame, we abandon Obudu Cattle Ranch and go to London in the winter to shop,(Ha Ha). Here in the US, Americans will have visited Orlando or Miami before they go to France. Or if they want to Ski the will go to Colorado before going to Switzerland. But the person writing this post is also guilty of abandoning Naija. I guess if i was offered something other than family, i will go to Naija for Holiday instead of Kenya. But anyway Thanks for the Invite. |
Nigeria of my dreams. Wow this will be hard. A country where the rule of law applies to everyone. A country that can provide shelter, light, some health care, water and roads for it's populous. A country where everyone can vote and their vote have some relevance. A country that has Unity between it different tribes and embrace diversity. A country that gives women more rights and relevance in society. I wish these things would happen, but i really doubt Nigeria will get better. Nigeria the way it is set up is nearly guaranteed to fail. |
Xtiana I am not married.... |
@IAH Free or Foolish, whenever you limit speech we all lose. One mans meat is another man's poison. U see when you regulate speech for some people it is great for others it is bad. So even if u disagree with what someone says you have the option of ignoring it. But the fact that the person can say it, should always be protected. You cannot boot people off for having "A HEATED ARGUMENT" IAH We are using words not weapons. U do not have to read my words and you are free to respond if they offend you. Debate is always Healthy. |
I do not think it will ever end,but i do not think you can only point fingers at people from the eastern part of Nigeria. People from the west are one of the loudest Nigerians there are and bring a lot of attention @ Airports, street corners, restaurants, hotels, ETC.But you are right if true, this is another embarrassment for Nigeria. Dubai was nothing compared to Naija a few years back and today it has become and international economic Hub. @SEUN AND NAIRALAND PEOPLE IT IS A SHAME THAT YOU GOT BE SUSPENDED FOR HAVING AN ARGUMENT ON THIS FORUM. I THINK DEBATES ARE ALWAYS HEALTHY AND WHEN YOU LIMIT FREE SPEECH,WE ALL LOSE.SHAME ON THE SITE HOST AND SHAME ON THIS FORUM FOR NOT ALLOWING PEOPLE EXPRESS THEIR VIEWS.WORDS DO NOT KILL AND DEBATE ALWAYS EXPANDS OUR MINDS. NO ONE IS FORCED TO RESPOND TO ANYONE HERE.THAT PERSON THAT REPORTED COULD HAVE SIMPLY IGNORED ME.SHE DID NOT HAVE TO ENGAGE IN THE ARGUMENT ON THE OTHER TOPIC. I HOPE YOU SUSPENDED HERE TOO FOR " A HEATED ARGUMENT" What a Joke. Nairaland is becoming a fast growing communist website. My Opinion, oh! Oh! here comes Uncle SAM about to regulate free speech! |
Wes I can sue you for Liable. I never said i like raping women, I said i was raped by a woman in Secondary school and was tongue and chick about it. I do not live in TX and i never said i was a Bush fan. I said i was a die hard democrat read my post in another thread or ask Ijebuman. But i still think you we need to go back and answer this post . QUESTION:WHY DO SO MANY NIGERIAN MEN WANT TO LEAVE NAIJA FOR THE US? ANSWER: FILL IN UR OPINION PEOPLE. QUESTION:WHAT DOES NIGERIA HAS TO OFFER A YOUNG MAN AGES 18-30? ANSWER: GIVE THAT AVERAGE KID OR YOUNG MAN A REASON TO STAY. |
Wes I know u, U will soon be apologizing for saying something stupid. I will let you run your mouth for now, but i am sure you will soon start going in circles to explain urself. I thought you had learnt your lesson in your other dumb post, but no, here we go again......... Kokscity is about to spank a Kid. Oh my bad! it is against the Law! Kokscity will not be assaulting any children. An Upstanding, God Fearing Citizen. |
Wes First of all i am not sure that i told you i am from the south. My God this is actually mind boggling to me. U are arguing from a point of view that cannot hold water. I know you like Nigeria Food, and Nigeria Music, Nigerian clothes and Nigerian Movies ETC. I hope you are able to at least go home and enjoy all these in Naija and stop praising abject poverty, corruption, armed robbery, and straight up mayhem from your cozy situation in the US. I did not like what i was experiencing in Naija, and i left and i am encouraging everyone that can leave,to leave. Question Is:WHY ARE SO MANY NIGERIAN YOUNG MEN PLANING TO LEAVE NAIJA? Answer: Because Nigeria does not have anything to offer them. WesleyanA i am now convinced that you are really as slow as you look. U have had one racist and of the world post and here you come with another argument that you are going of the wall with. I know all youths cannot leave Nigeria, but those that want to leave and can leave, MAKE AN ARGUMENT FOR THEM TO STAY AND FIGHT FOR THIER COUNTRY PLEASE! |
WesleyanA Have you heard of the saying "once bitten twice shy"? You have come again with those your strong misguided views abi? Why do i have to be ashamed about eating Nigerian food. Do u eat American food? Well i expect such lame talk from kids.... Now if you read my post you will understand that i am advocating that the Nigerian Youth should leave not only for the US but for other countries. The truth is that they are leaving in Numbers that will blow ur mind, regardless of what you say they will still try to leave. So let's all offer them an alternative to leave, instead of sermon that does put food on the table. The world is a Global Village, the Youth in Sri-Lanka and the Kid in Nigeria, or even the one in Iraq today are all yearning for the same thing. The want to compete on the world stage and no government, church, mosque,or many times even their parents will stop them from dreaming. I cannot get anyone to remove sentiments, I have asked over and over again please make a case for the 18-30 Nigerian Youth or Young Adult to stay in Nigeria instead of leaving if he had the opportunity to leave. Joftech,Omon,Goodguy,Wesleyan,Ijebuman and all of you that Loves "The Nigerian Way so Much" Please make the case why that average young man should stay in Nigeria. Please remove statements like "It is Home" or it is his Country" Just straight up sell it to the Kid that life would be better for him In Nigeria for the following reasons and then state those reason. Kokscity will wait for replies. In the mean time i will be watching Monday Night Football Last Monday Night Football Game on ABC Farewell to Madden and Crew. NE Patroits and the NY Jets. Patroits should open a can on whoop ass on the Jets. |
Joftech I understand that there are a lot of economic stats that cannot be clearly added into any economic assumption, but i am not sure what metric you want us to use and measure Nigeria's economy. I am sure economist home and abroad take into account the shadow economy or cash economy system Nigeria has and still come up with their best guesstimate. Oh I forgot," everything is a conspiracy to you". Dude trust me your skills and your reservation are one thing, but reality is something else. I came here with a degree which was not worth a damn when i arrived, because all the lecturers wants you to do was buy his handout and he will pass you or you can settle ur way thru college( U know "The Nigerian way"). Got a second degree here and today i work for myself on my own terms. But the fact of life is that i had to do some jobs that i did not particularly think were up to par, but you know, i did what i had to do to get where i am. Truly everyone wants the best for themselves and family, but not everyone can afford to come from Naija and buy a house right away, you have to hustle, do some crappy jobs, remain focused and the best will come and you shall climb that economic ladder. You keep hoping and waiting for the switch to come on in Nigeria and i pray it will. But for now i have tried and have given up on that place and would truly encourage young Nigerian men to leave and find a better place to call home. I swung three strikes and i am out......... |
@ Hotstepper Canada and the US=Same Sauce just different flavors. Canada is more liberal than the US and needs more immigrants badly. Ur statement about being focused is very true, but i must add that Nigeria does not give you something to focus about. When you want to read a book NEPA takes light,U want to travel on the local Highways,Police Harass you. U want a Drivers License, U just come up with money no driving test nothing. So there are opportunities for most in the West and very few in Naija have the means to achieve what they dream of. That is a shame and should be unacceptable, but i hear people keep saying that Naija will change and this and that, but are accepting the status Quo.Hey Hotstepper i want to visit Ontario/Toronto for New Year any ideas for me?I will arrive @ Pearson International Airport. Any places you can recommend me to visit? Kokscity is chiling on Boxing day Weather is Nice and i am straight up Loving the day. |
Ijebuman Oh! By the way I think the US is the best place to run to if you are running from Naija. That is my position and i am sticking to it. Just incase i was not clear from my earlier post. |
dialog I am simply trying to remove sentiments and make good points for my position. That is what a dialogue is all about, and in this forum the question is why do most Nigerian men want to to leave Niaja. So since i have been on both sides, i have established an opinion and i am only trying to move people my way. That is what a dialog is all about, bringing people to your point of view and maybe in the process have people thinking and possibly affect change. Ijebuman You lived in the US and in the UK abi. U know that we can have strong opinions, for example Dems and Republicans,Gay or Straight, Prochoice or Prolife,For school choice or for Public Education, Guest worker program or Pro Immigration reform. All these arguments help in a democracy and the best part we can state our opinions good or bad. Hey at least we do not need to use weapons or kill each other to effect change bro. |
Jackie,Jackie,Jackie You were sent by God Almighty to explain so eloquently why greener pastures is in the USA and for that reason Nigerian men will flee on a dime. If you notice it is only those that do not live here or are in Living in Nigeria that are defending the indefensible. Until Nigerians understand that A JOB, IS A JOB, IS A JOB, WE ARE ALL DOOMED. Nigerians expect a salary and do not earn it. That is why you have people on this forum looking down at blue collar workers who for the most part are doing much better than them,(Joftech,Omon, and co). Until we understand that the is value to hard work, whether you flip burgers, or work construction or a software engineer for Goggle or even a CEO of a Fortune 500 Company, you still continue to work very hard and continue to understand the value of Hard work. Nigeria has so depressed it citizens that everyone is looking for a short-cut to wealth and that is why many citizens are predisposed to failure. I did my own share of odd jobs for many years and i now run a small business with 3 employees, but even as a business owner i come to work many times earlier than everyone else and am the last to leave most times. I own my own home, i have bought and paid for four brand new cars during my stay in the US, have shipped three 40footers home.I attribute to hard work. Where would Nigeria have started to give me that kind of opportunity. Please you all can stay and rot in Naija, not me. I like Nigeria as my home and from a sentimental point of view. Nigeria did not offer me Jack in Life and i have 2 give credit where credit is due. @Omon You are starting to rub me off the wrong way, i will like to know when last you went home, u seem to be one of these folks we call A Monday morning Quarterback. U sit in that dreadful country and sing praises of a corrupt country like Nigeria. All those countries i listed have a better per capita income than Nigeria and yet do not have the Natural resources that Nigeria has. I am starting to think you might be in the UK on tilt...Dude get yourself together and stop smelling yourself. |
@ Omon Security Measures in SA when you come as a tourist is even better than what i explained. The have a huge tourism industry and the tourist are many times kept away from the public in general.Dude I have family in SA and they tell how the use Alarms and different techniques to survive. My Mum Lives in a suburb of Joburg and she does not leave the house pass 7PM. Nigeria is getting there, not there yet but soon they will have the criminal element take over the streets. Omon when next you go to Naija visit Benin City and walk on the streets like a Normal man and see if they do not Obtain you. Pete please take some measures to protect yourself. |
Let us call it like it is people and stop deceiving ourselves and respond to the topic without sentiments. We all can call Nigeria Home and all, but it feels more like a broken marriage you are tired of the woman but are just there for the sake of the kids. It is so Bad that Young men throw Huge Parties when the get US Visas and are ready to leave that country. @ all the young men in Nigeria without an option,if you do not get a visa to the US or UK there are some great emerging markets in Europe and Asia. Find somewhere that would fit you and start working your way out. The Human race is all about finding ways to live an accomplished life, if Naija does not do it for you, maybe somewhere else would. |
Los Angeles Lakers lose by 5. A dire day for Laker Fans worldwide.Just about to take of my #8 Jersey and keep it in my shrine. Kobe Still a great player Lakers will make the playoffs. Kokscity Die Hard Laker Fan!!!! |
Lakers are down Just 2 with 18.1 seconds left in the 4TH .We have a chance People. Classic Christmas watching some good Basketbal and some great hard nose All-Ameican Football. |
Ijebuman It is funny u said that about me hooking up with Nigerian Professionals in the US. I have actually been to some of their meetings since i am trying to set up a business in SE Nigeria, but i find that Nigeria is beyond repair at this point, and i just think that you are looking at the glass half full, and i am looking at it half empty period. The meeting was field with people bragging about their degrees and five figure salaries and mainly were looking for home they could make their lives better here not even in Naija. I must say it was not NIPRO, but it was sha Nigerian Professionals in the US i had to travel to DC to even hook up with the crowd and it was more like networking for Jobs and i am sure some women there were trying to hook up with men. But i did not leave there thinking anyone was thinking of going back home at all. My Personal Opinion people is that once we come and see things that work in the US, Canada,SA, UK, ASIA, AUSTRALIA ETC We expect a country with so much wealth in Natural resources, to be able to give their citizenry common light 24/7. It is unacceptable for me to expect any less from my country. Look and that is why people just want to get the hell out of that country and in some cases are willing to die to so. Kokscity a little down because my Lakers are now down by 6 points. But still glad to be watching the Game in the greatest country on the face of the free world. America: God's own Country America: Great Country,Great people, Great Ideas............ Kokscity not willing to trade his current state of mind for any reason. The few, The Strong and the Brave. |
Ijebuman I am sure you know how to do your research, since i know you like sending me links and pictures to read, my facts came from CNN,Wallstreet Journal, NY Times, Washington Times Online, Washinton Post and the State Department website. Nigerian Population:130Million Plus Nigeriand Unemployment:60% Nigerian Underemployment plus Unemployment:70% Corruption in the World: Nigerian ranked third most corrupt Country in the world(UN)(World Bank)(Forbes)(The Economist) HIV/AIDS Infection nearly 5-12% of the population(UNAIDS) |
Yo Pete The concerns you have are real Dude!. I was there from OCT 17-DEC8 2005 and let me tell you what these people do not understand is that when u come from the states even if you lived in Naija b4 you have to be alert always because of the dog eat dog mentality. Pete take note: This is Kokscity Survival Guide to Surviving in Naija when you are coming from the states. 1. Make sure you have a lot of Condoms that is the first defense you need for Sub-Saharan Africa where the epicenter of HIV is. 2.Do not come with cash, have a friend give you naira in Boston and then western union the rest to yourself in Nigeria so that u are the only one that can collect the money and if you do not use it, u can get a refund when you get back. Plus break it down and send do not send like $1000 at a time do like $500 TWICE INSTEAD. So in essence you use it as a temporary bank and the give you Naira or dollars which ever you may choose. 3.Always try to Land in ABJ or PH Airport if you can, try to avoid Lagos if you can. I like ABJ because it is safer. 4.If you are travelling withing the country, for example from Lagos to Warri, it is better for you take a mobile police officer with you he will charge like Naira 6-10k, but it is worth it since u might pay that bribing police any way. 5.If u are a US Citizen make sure you register with the consulate in Lagos and u can do that online. In case of emergency they will fly you back home. 6.Try to use big domination of currency like use N500 or N1000 note so that you do not have a bulge in your pocket, which might attract felons and gold diggers too. 7. Buy a cheap ass phone, so if it is lost or stolen you are not hurt and since Phone crimes are rampant if you can just use commercial PAYG they are everywhere. 8. Take a malaria drug the minute you land, I took one called Halfan and it worked well and i paid about N1200 for it at a local Pharmacy. I am sure they are much more ideas i can give you, but right now my Lakers are down 5 and i am going Thru a brain freeze. But in any case be safe and have a lovely trip. Oh and yeah that place is Hot as Hell compared to Boston so dress light. @ Baby cute I like my life and i am not going to go out there and let anyone punk my ass, i needed some security measure and i saw of lot Nigerians that live in Naija do the same. Have escorts, travel with fake names on local airlines and some other measures. |
Goodguy If u had read my post you would know that i come to Nigeria frequently. I am just saying that Nigeria @ 45 does not offer the Youth a Choice. That is the reason they all want to flee and for the most part i would encourage them to flee that death trap. Listen it was so bad that the British Embassy had to put a travel restriction on Young people male and fenale ages 18-30. The truth as much as you would not admit is that people in the millions will rather leave than stay, and i do not blame them. OK Let every one stop comparing Nigeria to the US we all can agree that there is no Comparison, Let us now replace the US with South Africa post Aparthied. or Botswana or Kenya,Senegal, Ghana. No let us see where Nigeria is compared to those nations. We have Issues Goodman and i am not going to apologize for pointing them out. Kokscity @ Home Chiling, about to watch my LA Lakers whoop some Miami Ass! Kobe Bryant a super Star from Birth Kokscity a great fan of Number 8. Merry Christmas All. Nigerian by Birth but i am currently bleeding Red,White and Blue SEMPER FI |
Joftech When ever or if ever you are in the states, Holla @ ur boy. If the Jail system worked in Nigeria, the Jails will be overcrowded with criminals, the problem is that they are all on the streets and in government parastatals. The law does not work in Nigeria that is why Robbers just yesterday captured a Luxury bus and Killed eight just two days b4 Christmas. Always in the Benin Area i must add. Now if they feared the Law and police effective and were not corrupt, they will have been caught and maybe sent to death row. Instead the carted away with Millions, raped women and killed an eight month old child. Refer to Nigeriaworld.com for more info. Joftech i wish that you would understand that criminals rule in that country and until we See that, we cannot have a constructive conversation on where this our nation is headed. I am not in the mood. Trust you know that people that you are hating on, still make some damn good money. But at least they have factories to work in. Haters or rather Bad Belle na em you dey suffer from. Factory work is an Honest living. Blue Collar workers make this country great. Not everybody likes working in an office. Factory workers get paid by the Hour Naira 20K am Month Joftech is about $130 per month. Nigerian Unemployment is @ 60% Plus. Iraqi Unemployment with all the Bombing is @ 40% |
Kokscity Has never done any kind of Fraud, Just a Hard working upstanding member of the society. Fraud is a short cut to Doom. Hard work Pays and feels better. Kokscity currently immune to being oppressed by Nigerians with stolen money. Maybe in the UK, i know that you guys have it rough out there, but it is much easier in Yankee and Canada than in that Empire the call Great Britain. Land where the Queen Rules. Ha! Please refer all ignorant answers to the recycling bin. Kokscity still bleeding Red, White and Blue Currently wrapped in Old Glory. Home of the Brave, Land of the Free Maybe God continue to Bless the USA. Still paying my Taxes Proudly. My bad just 33% of my gross Income!!!! Nigerian by Birth, American in Spirit........ |

Kokscity Still Bleeding Red, White and Blue |
Billionairesead the post, you will see that i answered all these questions. I told you how many black Millionaires and Billionanires. Dude Nigerians have a bad reputation worldwide period not only in the US. The ACLU is here to protect the government from trampling on our civil Liberties. It is called Oversight. Where people like Mr Romero the ACLU Chairman fights for the rich and the poor in court, so that government is in check. Blacks get their brand from Slavery and are continuously doing better. Even in the UK Jamo English people and other blacks are looked down upon by even Indians and those from South East Asia. My point is problems Exist everywhere and the topic ask why do Young Naija men want to leave, and i gave my points. @ Joftech I am not going to curse here or even get mad. But i must clarify some things. I have been here for a long time and i am not one of those that was dying for America b4 i came. I have gone back to Naija nearly Every year since i have been here, and sometimes even twice a year. This last time i was there for 7weeks. Just came back on the 8th of December. U are of the impression that i am suffering and do not know my rights or maybe just existing, Dude i have gone wrong this country and to many in Africa and i am not just one of those that just exist. I truly Live Life. My point is that every time i visited Naija i noticed that things were worse than the last time and more and more people are asking me to help them to leave the country. Thankfully i did not have to beg to come to the States, but when i came, all i had was little money and a dream and this Nation did it for me Dude! I will be in Naija maybe in about 2months again and even with Democracy and OBJ i am sure things will still be worse than when i left it in December. Dude i do not seat in Yankee and blow my trumpet, i have put my money where my mouth is and Naija has come up short each time. Dude i was not hungry when i lived in Nigeria, Infact by Naija standards i was wealthy, or at least my Family was but that is beside the point. The fact that i can work and pay my bills and travel home, do some fly chics, buy a car, have health insurance, have life insurance, and mutual fund and retirement account and Social security and be able to participate in the political process and know that if i do like a politician i can work to unseat him or her, those are the basic human freedoms that this country offers and my home country can never offer me. Listen we have the wealth in Oil alone to make Nigeria far better than SA. But we let Corrupt leaders and greed take over us. Omon in terms of what Blacks in the UK are going thru compared to here, all i can say is Wow! |
Ijebuman I appreciate you being Candid, if i had to move back rtight now i would go to SA or Kenya or even Zambia. For Real Better standard of living for less doe and less stress |
