Car Talk / Re: Club-Lexus by KolaShangOne(m): 8:56pm On Jan 02, 2022
Famocious:
I recently changed my car (Lexus RX350, 2007) engine oil with 6 Litres of Mobil 1 5W30 fully synthetic. Two days after the oil change, I noticed my check engine light was flashing. The car was taken to an auto-workshop immediately where the oil check was found to be extremely low, water was seen gushing out from the exhaust pipe and the car was difficult to start. The auto engineer concluded that the top cylinder gasket was burnt and some of the valves were bad after further check.
The mileage on the car was 180,420; no evidence of oil leakage and the vehicle was not smoky prior to the incident.

The top cylinder gasket and all the 24 valves were replaced. The car is currently running smoothly.
Oando oleum SL 20W50 was suggested to be used for a further oil change by the auto repairer.
Is the suggestion a wise one or not?

PS: The oil change prior to the incident was with the recommended Mobil 1 5w30, however oil shortage was noticed 2 weeks after its change and a top-up with 2 litres was done.

Has anyone else using full synthetic oil experienced this?

I would wanna post this for knowledge's sake. We learn everyday.
I too didn't know it's precise name untill a client approached me from here and we did the design. (Building supervision inclusive)
These are 2 monopitches, the heights vary from one another, therefore, it ain't even a gabble but skillion roof.
Note: it is closer to a gable but it is not a gable.

When it comes to roofing, here's my own piece.
Roof according to function and not cost.
The first thing to consider is functionality, then you can relate it with cost.

You're right.. but if I want to remix it, I'll say..

Roof according to function, cost and aesthetics.

Because the beauty of a roof also adds to the value (face value) of a property..

Also, most times, a monopitch or monoslope roof (as I like to call it) is generally referred to "here" as a flat roof because that's what people understand it as.

There's the technical language between engineers and there's the general language.

I also used to think a skillion has just one sided slope. So a skillion is a monopitch roof.

And a gable roof has 2 sided slopes, right?

And the roof you posted is a "dual-skillion roof" (if I may grin) that still has a gable. The fact that the two pitches aren't on the same level means it's not a gable roof.. but it still has a gable.

OK. Can there be any remedy for the 'capillary rise of water' at this stage? Is there a 'U-turn' at this stage to prevent rising damp or can a reversal or preventive measure be taken at this stage? Thank you.

As far as I know, your options are, but not limited to..

-making use of water-proof cement mix during plastering of the wall.
-making use of water proof paint from @gbadexy.
-tiling to conceal the dampness.

are you guys trying to blame the QS or what!? I don’t get it..:

Brabus was paid over 97% of the total contract sum? Why don’t u question him as to where he didn’t buy and store materials at that time? What do you expect? You guys should at least pity the client. He did his part but brabus didn’t!!

And when they call him to come to the site for evaluation did he show up? No he didn’t.. claiming he was busy !!! You guys should learn how to ask the right questions

of course still on still, 6mm rod is thicker and i prefer that to wire mesh.

I understand personal preference but You're kind of increasing your construction cost though.

A wire mesh can do the anti-crack work.

***A BRC wire mesh saves time by eliminating the rebar tying process on site. You can spread 1000sqm of it within 30mins. It will probably take a week to tie that with 6mm.

***It also helps to reduce labour cost (money saving)

***Reduces initial purchase cost..

I’m actually not looking for Wichtech, Tilcor or others within the class.

They’re good but there are other great products out there that can stand shoulder with them.

I’ve used all the brand names and I can tell there’s really not much difference. My humble opinion though.

_____

If I share pictures of brand names with high price tags here, you can hardly tell the difference.

Over time, the difference will show!!!!

Yes it looks same at first, but, give it 3-5 years and you will see the difference.

Whether you agree or not, you will still have to FLOOR your House and floor it properly.
Now, the next question is: What is the Cost difference between "flooring" and "German Floor"?
Answer: German Floor is Costlier, way more costlier, than flooring!

Next Question: Do l need a German Floor or just Flooring for a bungalow?
Answer: it depends on the land you are building on. Some lands are such that your foundation requires that you go the extra length of doing a German floor (l am discussing a Bungalow now) because the land is not solid (Swampy, Waterlogged, Sandy soil, etc). [s]If your Land is solid, red soil or hard Ibadan rocks, you dont need a German floor for a Bungalow. [/s]

Finally, German floor has some inherent benefits it adds to a building, which you will lose if you dont do it.
[s]If your Soil is good, you can do without a German floor in your bungalow. [/s]
Alternatively, you can Beam-link your foundation and then do flooring (if you soil is hard and dry and it is a Bungalow).
Need l mention that you should not skip on using enough Cement, at that level.

NB: All statements are made with reference to a Bungalow

This is misinformation.

Lol, you're still stuck in 2005. Automatic transmissions have moved past those 5 speeds you have in mind.

Again, depends on the specific transmissions. A 7 speed semi automatic transmission with paddle shifters will beat any manual transmission hands down, other factors remaining constant.

You're describing a drag race.

Drag races happen to be one of the racing categories where automatics and semi automatic transmissions will beat stick shift manual transmissions, other factors remaining constant.

Yes. A 100m drag race.

I had a discussion with a friend. He insisted that a manual car will win an automatic in a dash 100m race. I think not.

Car gurus, what do you think?

Not necessarily.
1. Bad, substandard, fake or wrong fluids spoil transmissions.
2. Dirty tools, environment and careless mechanics spoil transmissions.

I just serviced my Acura transmission and transfer case as it was due (A13). Car still drives fine. I made sure everything involved in the process was spotlessly clean.
Bought fluids from luvvinhubby (OEM).

Okay. Thanks.

Use mobile 1 5w 30 for engine oil service.

Please don't touch your gear box oil. Just try and check if it is guage. This done when the car is running in park.

Scan the car for codes
Check coolant level and use the recommended original coolant if it is low

Does the gear box get spoilt if you attempt to change the oil?

Its unfair to call it rubbish, if you live in Ibadan where the value of land is buy one, get five as bonus. grin grin
Lagos Island is densely-built, a Prime Business District where Billions of Naira are turned-over on a daily basis.
You wont get a full plot to buy in such areas, even if it is available, they wont sell to you, they know the value.
Again, some of these plots are 3rd generation, inherited land and it has been divided and divided all over again.

Building code (set backs et al) are not enforced and cannot be enforced to the letter, in such areas and l am sure they have building approval that takes their unique situation into consideration.
But the building shown in picture are solidly built and cannot be refer to as rubbish.

A lot of houses, even abroad, have no parking space and occupants have to park on the street, in front of their house or anywhere else they can find space. They are given a parking sticker, to ensure the process is not abused.

Oga Mavv.. Land is even free in Ibadan.. anyone can go to Alalubosa or Iyaganku and start building there..

And the rubbish I said with respect to those buildings is simply that, that is NOT the right way for human beings to live.

Because 1sqm of land is 10million, does that mean people have to live like they're inside matchbox or carton of biscuit?

Good evening bosses in the building , I need an urgent advise.

A neighbor packaged a government acquisition land and sold it to me as a genuine land sometimes last year . I was at window level because I got to know it was a government land and surprisingly he never feel sorry for what he did at the end of the day I decided to sell off the land and recover whatever I can get out of my investment and I told him to sell it off since 13 months ago but he couldn't get a buyer before another agent brought a buyer and I sold the property at a lesser price than my investment.

I paid the guy that brought the buyer and the first agent is disturbing me for his agency fee even when he couldn't bring any buyer and I know he's been charging interested people before taking them to the land and he knew I sold the land at a loss o.

Is he entitled to any payment despite not bringing buyer for the property ?

Seems you're a very gentle person grin

Merry Xmas everyone.

I have been thinking of mounting a 4 bedroom bungalow, but I recently made enquiries for Cement and the distributor said 4,500. With this in mind, I'm left wondering how much I should budget to compete this project. Considering the inflated cost of building materials.

I will appreciate if anyone could help with a detailed or estimated figure.

Yes sir. I this situation there are no options to explore. Besides, visitors ain't that paramount in such apartment.
Well, if you are considering aesthetics. The window could be a false one. Whereby it will be constructed using same height as that of kitchen or bedroom window but only the 0.6m part will be openable.

You're right.
