You can block all the doors in yellow. You can also leave the onefor kitchen if you wish..

Introduce a window at the green line for light into the lobby.

The blue area. What's that lobby for? It would have made sense if the door was hidden along that line.

My friend is going crazy about this because of the amount of money spent on the raft foundation alone at sangotedo Lekki. They completed the works only three days ago.

He’s also afraid his two-storey building will fall down in the future because of these defects that appear in two places.

90% of works done are perfect, just the one in the last picture.

Those are honeycombs. That area was not well vibrated.. or maybe the formwork was too close to the iron (reinforcement).

I don't think your friends house will fall just because of that.

But then, I hope he did some tests on the concrete. It doesn't cost up to 1% of total cost of foundation.

Alot of people ignore these tests especially in big projects like this.

Pls, I need a professional advice pertaining to a proposed building (5 storey structure) situated in the mainlands. We just mounted the ground floor columns( 37 in number). Unfortunately, the columns didn't pass the cube test results for 28 days, we got average of 16N/mm² for a grade 25 Concrete.

The Structural Engineer( Consultant) on the project insisted we should run an NDT to ascertain the integrity of the columns. The NDT test done were Ultrasonic and Schmidt hammer rebound tests.

The results for the 2 tests was satisfactory though it was done after the 28 days curing period.

To my surprise, the Consultant structural engineer gave an instruction that the columns should be demolished even when the NDT shows a satisfactory result.

As a contractor, I need advice on what else can be done to be able to further prove my points about the integrity of the Columns as demolition is not the right thing to do at the moment.

Hmmmm dicey matter.

First of all, your cube strength should develop to at least 20 - 25 N/mm² especially for an M25 grade.. I've had up to 18N/mm² in one week for a bungalow. And you're going to 5 storeys..

Have you tried to check why you had 16N/mm²?

If I were the consultant too, I'd recommend the same thing to be on a safe side.

For me I trust the cube test more in these situations.

That's the mix ratio I normally use in all my Projects unless My client instructs me to adjust the ratio.I've worked for several Nairalanders and none ever complain of any glitches.
Before I do something for a client, I'll firstly do it for myself first in other to gather experiences and to avoid any flop,and I think that's what Researching means.

With the prevailing market rates of building materials,I think this amount cannot build a standard one bedroom mini flat apartment .

I believe it's wrong to assume an amount can complete a structure without a drawing and site assessment.
