PoliticsRe: Apostle Chibuzor Disappointed As Lagos Govt Demolish OPM Church & Free School by Konquest: 6:49pm On Jan 10, 2025
PriceActionZ:
It's in the news. Lagos wanted to use the area for the expansion of I think brt corridor and park. It's at the main road of cele express beside conoil, it was valued by both his lawyers and the Lagos government and conclusions were made. He was compensated with over 110 million naira or let's say 100 million plus, money paid to them, documents signed and agreement was reached.

Lagos government gave them ultimatum to remove their properties pending the pulling down of the structure.

Now I think, to the best knowledge of the pastor and his legal team, they thought they are being cheated and the place should be valued billion naira, so prior to the demolition, like 2 days for the demolition to go, they refunded the money to the Lagos state government and said it is not acceptable by them, now I think Lagos state denied ever receiving the money and claimed they have reached a concrete agreement and that the pastor is no longer incharge. Even I watched one of the guys working for the pastor gave exact accounts of what happened similar to this. Then now, I don't know may be it will be termed blackmailing, claiming government demolished his orphanage and his free school property and his church without due process, that this is a building he has and duly paid for. So, who is lying now? What if they refused to acknowledge the money he refunded and refused to accept after all payments and negotiations concluded. His lawyer didn't do well. Hope he won't loose everything.

Now the op is being sentimental in his reports, cutting all other evidence out including one of his members that was interviewed, acknowledging receiving over 100million naira but the money was later refunded after all documents signed.

MasterTeeUSA:
Lagos Govt provided documents for the settlement with the lawyer representing the church. Now, the church says the lawyer was not supposed to represent the church. Someone is lying, and the lawyer should be debarred. I also feel the church may be pulling a stunt so people won't know they had reached a settlement to close the school and push the kids out. It is hard to know what to believe, but the demolition continued because Lagos Govt had and presented all the documents.

Check the YouTube channel and Channels TV reporting.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N6ZJX2SEkMc
The Lagos State Government (or any other state) has the absolute right under the law to acquire any land for developmental purposes and for public interest. In this case, a new BRT bus corridor is to be built in that location and its only part of the church that got demolished. Besides, the property the so-called church owns looks "weather-beaten" from the scenes shown on Channels TV. So, the compensation of 120 million that Lagos State paid to that church is adequate and it was highly irresponsible for the church to have returned the money to Lagos State.

That church owner CLEARLY acknowledged in the Channels TV video that monetary compensation was paid by Lagos State BUT he wanted more money (and that's the reason for the blackmail and hysteria).
AgricultureRe: Top 10 Largest Palm Oil Producing States In Nigeria (2025) by Konquest: 5:44pm On Jan 10, 2025
zero8zero:
A recent survey report showed that Nigeria produces palm oil in commercial quantities and contributes 7% of the total output in the world. With this significant figure, there are some states that contributes greatly to this feat. Though palm oil is produced in more than half of the states in the country, but these ten are seen as the main producers of this cash crop.

While the Niger Delta region is known produce crude oil in large quantity, some of these Nigerian states where palm oil production is highest are also from that region due to the kind of farm lands these states have. Today, Nigeria ranks as the fifth highest producer of palm oil worldwide, with Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand and South America’s Colombia, above the country that has the world’s largest palm oil production.

Nigeria still remains a top player in palm oil production at the international scene, even though crude oil has become the bedrock of the country’s economy. We highlighted in this write-up the highest palm oil producing states in the country this 2025 that ensures that this agricultural produce doesn’t go extinct.

TOP 10 LARGEST PALM OIL PRODUCING STATES IN NIGERIA (2025)

In Nigeria, the major oil palm producing states include: Akwa Ibom, Cross River, Rivers, Abia, Edo, Ondo, Imo, Delta, Bayelsa, and Anambra states respectively. To be more explicit on this, we will highlight these major palm oil producing states, including their production outputs and how they setup plans to augment from their current rank.

The list below shows the rundown of the top ten highest palm oil producing states in Nigeria as at today;

AKWA IBOM STATE
Akwa Ibom is one of the major palm oil producing states in Nigeria. Oil palm is a perennial crop which grows mostly in tropical areas. Akwa Ibom is a tropical state located in the coastal southern part of the country. The supportive climate and vegetation has alter the rate of palm oil production in the state. Akwa Ibom state can boast of good numbers of palm oil production areas and some refineries which have contributed to the output of palm oil production in the area. However, besides palm oil farming, the state has other natural resources, which includes the following: rice, cassava, salt, glass sand, limestone etc. All these is complemented by the petroleum mineral resources which the state is leading in terms of production.

[quote author=Lanrelagboi post=133655377]Today, we commissioned five key road networks at Ikeja GRA as part of our urban regeneration and infrastructure project.

These roads, Oba Dosumu Street, Oduduwa Way, Oduduwa Crescent, Sobo Arobiodu, and Sasegbon Streets, will facilitate smoother traffic flow and better interconnectivity.

The enhanced roads and drainage will help mitigate flooding and erosion, reduce traffic congestion, and boost safety and property values.

As we work towards a Greater Lagos, no part of our community will be left behind in our urban regeneration efforts, even as we remain committed to delivering quality infrastructure that will enhance the lives of all residents.

Erm, a slight correction. The name is Emanuel, not Emmanuel. He was from the Popo Aguda area (Brazilian quarters) of Lagos.
@Naptu2, thanks for the correction here and I also noticed the dissimilarities in the spellings of the two names as well but decided to go for the Anglicized one with double "m."

I appreciate your insights on Chief 'Bode Emanuel's links to Popo Aguda on Lagos Island. My maternal ancestry too goes to Lagos Island, so, it's good to know that Chief Emanuel has links to the Brazilian quarters. He may also have ancestral links through marriage with the Campos Square area of Lagos Island where liberated Yoruba returnees from Cuba (Havana and Matanzas) settled from the mid to late-1800s.

You can find this Fish in most Coastal areas. And it is because they share boundaries with the larger Ocean. Sometimes, these fishes do come upstream thru the estuaries and breed.

The difference is that the ones in the Rivers don't grow any bigger than the Ocean ones.

I love this fish growing up. Tasty and meaty too. It's back (towards) the eyes is almost Stony. And the tail has this hook like bone that Lagos Fishermen call "Hankasi". Used as a weapon to catch Fish and sometimes in human duel to kill.

I have seen the damage it can cause.
@Lukuluku69

I appreciate the deep insights you've given here (I believe that life is a continuous educational journey). Based off of your narrative, I'm curious to know how it would taste in my mouth. But that hook-like tail appendage (Hankasi) of sting rays is what stuns me till today ever since Steve Irwin died from that sting ray jab.

I just got "blown away" though by the fact that sting rays (apatamaja) exist in some Nigerian rivers and offshore waters... The biodiversity is incredible from seals, octopuses, whales caught in Bayelsa State to Awka Ibom State to Lagos State, etc. I'm gonna make this topic one of the talking points with the youngest of my biological brothers (who is a marine scientist with a PhD) later this weekend.

Thanks again, and have a Happy 2025 ahead.

Ciao.

It's good that newer boarding bridges are being purchased for that airport despite the purchase of brand new CNG airport shuttle buses.
RomanceRe: Uk-based Women And The Konji Issue by Konquest: 1:21am On Jan 09, 2025
uche87:
I remember in Festac Town (Lagos State), in 2016, when a neighbour claimed he accidentally slept with the new female tenant. "We did it on this chair" he pointed with a grin on his face. "I swear I never expected it. She was crazy and she looked so innocent" he whispered in the ears of whoever cared to listen. Putting this in perspective, the weather temperature was just 22 degrees Celsius. This is the typical weather for two in Nigeria. It normally sends the social media into frenzy, with all manner of romantic memes flying around.

At this point, the telephone lines of some 'hospitality workers' popularly known as 'runs girls' start reading 'number busy' or 'switched off'. This is because the prodigal men with hot waists are on their trail, thereby driving up demand. My neighbour's experience of being gifted the cookie on a platter of gold, is not an isolated one. During the rainy season, harmattan and COVID lockdown, there were so many similar experiences. Acclaimed male best besties who have 'fattened the pigs' easily reaped the fruits of their labour.

The women who failed such tests of cold weather and loneliness in Nigeria are performing woefully in the UK where the conditions are worse. With the weather condition averaging between 3 and 5 degrees Celsius mostly, some women are being smoked out of their houses by increased sexual appetite. Life here is also extremely lonely. People hardly mix, they tend to overwork and forget living their normal lives. Also, many immigrants tend to be buying into the culture of individualism associated with the West.

Everybody suspects strangers. The implication of this is that you could either date online or take the highroad of workplace romance. In my opinion, office romance is like playing the Russian Roulette. Before you know it, someone who has never met you, will know the exact strands of pubic hair you have. This is because people kiss and tell.

In the UK, independent women who are doing well financially and career-wise abound. But society is infested with men who are scared of them. Their fears are very valid though. These men just want to have them for the moment, like an AirBnB.

With the chilly weather, loneliness, and unsatisfactory toys, most women tend to let their guards down when they meet interested men. And they end up paying dearly with their mid-sections. After two to three months of dating, the expected marital plan never comes up, and then they abandon these relationships. They hopefully start another which ends the same way. It's a vicious cycle
Failure could be very demoralising when not well managed. Some ladies get sucked into the unholy system of sexual generosity out of frustration and bad habits. So they see no big deal in warming different beds like a weighted blanket.

I sampled the opinions of some single men about what the dating market looks like currently. The story is still the same. The women are just too vulnerable and their sexual appetite is on a record high. This is why some freak out or redact information whenever the issue of body count comes up. Single women in their 30s are throwing caution to the wind in a bid to find phantom happiness.

In recent times, most of these women have been falling back on their suitors back home in Nigeria for marriage. The same ones they once despised during their early days abroad.
They offer them the golden 'Japa Ticket' and a promise of a better life which the men can't resist. These men see this golden opportunity as a sign of 'grace'. The men can't resist those glossy pictures in highbrow locations. They are blind to what is behind those photos, even with their glasses on. Also, the Tinubu administration which has pauperised Nigeria, makes the decision to 'escape' so easy for targeted men.

But the truth is that these women are only applying the basic principles of business to their lives. When your product is not valuable locally, export it to another country where it is scarce and experience a boom in turnover.

Osahon George Osayimwen writes from England.

Nice to see Ebonyi State featuring as an aviation training hub. That was a surprise to me. I thought it would be in Enugu State. Akure too ain't bad for the utilization of existing aviation infrastructure.

But if you ask me one should see it Lagos Ogun and Ondo coastal areas because we even buy even here in Lagos main town, it would most likely be in abundance at epe or ogun waterside.
I appreciate your feedback here.

Aha! So, it's dried stingrays... It definitely must have been brought from a long distance such as the Ilaje Atlantic Ocean coastline of Ondo State or the Ijebu axis of Ogun Waterside, or better yet from Epe which is the main fishing hub in Lagos State where all sorts of water animals are sold. I watched a documentary years ago where the Epe fishermen who went out to sea caught some crocodiles as well with their traps for sale at the major Epe fish market and they were snapped up by buyers after quick negotiations.

Did you catch this stingray in the waters of Urhoboland or what?

In any event, be very careful next time because it's a very deadly aquatic animal. A strong jab from its tail has killed people in the past including Steve Irwin, a popular Australian animal lover and stunts man. That animal is not as tame as it looks.

Japa, Agbero and Eba are Yoruba words.

It doesn't mean some other people don't have their own words for what Japa, Agbero and Eba mean in Yoruba, it's just absolutely important to set the record straight and give credit to the owner of the intellectual property.

They are Yoruba words and the Yoruba own those words that are now widely accepted globally.

Even the word " areaboy' is the anglicized form of a Yoruba word "ọmọ adugbo" ( Ọmọ is Boy/Girl , Area is Adugbo).

Yoruba culture has always been very influential and powerful. Many Afro words and cultures died during the trans Atlantic slave period, only Yoruba culture and religion survived intact
Deep insights.

Yoruba folks have a penchant for generating vibrant urban slangs and proudly use their language to engage in word plays with the English language and these quickly gain usage within the large Yoruba Diaspora population centers in North America and Europe. I recall that words such as "Lasgidy" and "Tokunbo" evolved back in the 1980s as alternate urban slangs for Lagos and for any item that's imported from overseas.

Unknown to some younger ones, the Anglicized "Area Boy" version of the Yoruba term "Omo Adugbo" evolved from Fela's disciples in the Ikeja area back in the day. They were the protectors of the hood folks. So, it had no negative connotations.

P.S. "Tsire" meaning "to stick/pin" is the standard Hausa language word for barbecued meat NOT "Suya" which is a corrupted form of the term "sooya or soye" in Hausa meaning to fry/burn something.

"I think of suya and I’m on a Lagos beach with Mum’: celebrating Nigeria’s spice dish"
