FreeStuffsNG: Kingmakers in Oyo town, Oyo State, have protested the appointment of Prince Abimbola Owoade as the new Alaafin of Oyo by Governor Seyi Makinde.
Owoade’s appointment was announced on Friday in a statement by the state’s Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Dotun Oyelade, sparking controversy within traditional circles.
Oyelade said after extensive consultations and traditional divinations by the Oyomesi, the Oyo kingmakers, Owoade was recommended as the new Alaafin of Oyo and subsequently approved by Governor Makinde.
“Prince Abimbola Akeem Owoade, after thorough consultations and divinations, has been recommended by the Oyomesi and approved by Governor Seyi Makinde as the new Alaafin of Oyo,” he said.
However, five prominent kingmakers in Oyo town rejected Owoade’s appointment.
The protesting kingmakers include the Basorun of Oyo, High Chief Yusuf Akinade; the Lagunna of Oyo, High Chief Wakeel Akindele; the Akinniku of Oyo, High Chief Hamzat Yusuf; a warrant chief representing the Asipa of Oyo, Chief Wahab Oyetunji; and a warrant chief representing the Alapinni of Oyo, Chief Gbadebo Mufutau.
The kingmakers argued that Prince Lukman Gbadegesin was the rightful Alaafin-elect, citing ongoing legal proceedings concerning the selection process.
In a letter signed by their legal counsel, Kunle Sobaloju, SAN, they described the governor’s actions as illegal and urged the suspension of the process until the matter was resolved in court.
Titled “Re: Illegal & Unlawful Appointment of Prince Abimbola Akeem Owoade as the New Alaafin of Oyo,” was made available to Saturday PUNCH, the letter outlined the kingmakers’ opposition to the appointment.
It read in part, “On their resolute instruction, we write this letter concerning the purported unlawful and illegal appointment of Prince Abimbola Akeem Owoade as the new Alaafin of Oyo.
“You will recall that on September 30, 2022, at a meeting of the Kingmakers held in accordance with the Alaafin of Oyo Chieftaincy Declaration of 1961, the Kingmakers appointed Prince Lukman Adelodun Gbadegesin as the Alaafin of Oyo by a majority of lawful votes. His name was forwarded to Your Excellency for approval, but you refused to approve it for undisclosed reasons. The Kingmakers thereafter filed an action to stop Your Excellency from truncating the process, which is now pending in the Court of Appeal.
“Your Excellency’s recent announcement of Prince Owoade’s appointment, claiming it was made after consultations and divinations, is contrary to the established legal process. The Alaafin is not chosen by consultation or divination but through strict compliance with the Registered Alaafin of Oyo Chieftaincy Declaration of 1967, which governs the selection process. The Bashorun of Oyo, as the head of the Oyomesi, must summon a meeting for the selection, but no such meeting was convened. This decision amounts to executive recklessness and cannot withstand legal scrutiny.”
Meanwhile, the Paramount Ruler of Iwoland, Oba Abdulrosheed Akanbi, has congratulated Prince Owoade on his ascension as the new Alaafin.
Catapault: The entire world and online world is abuzz with 'Detty December Lagos Nigeria'.
Countless superstars from all over the world are in Lagos as we speak, in addition to MANY THOUSANDS of foreigners, especially Afro-Americans, who have booked up major hotels on the Island, and even the Mainland. Places like Sheraton, Ibis, and the Marriot in Ikeja are all fully booked up. Burna Boy, Davido, Wizkid, Olamide, Tiwa Savage, Tyla, Ayra Starr, Tems etc have performed or have been rolling on the island. Parties, clubs, and concerts on 24 hr runs!
The whole island is bubbling.
The social media buzz that's been generated by this year's Detty December is SOMETHING ELSE ENTIRELY.
IT'S OFF THE CHAIN.
Many people from all over the world who missed out this time around, especially black Americans (many of whom were planning to visit Ghana, but have now changed their mind to Nigeria) are vowing that they MUST be present in Nigeria for Detty December 2025.
This is a potential goldmine for Nigeria.
We can capitalize on, and MULTIPLY this publicity, to ENSURE THAT NIGERIA BECOMES A MECCA FOR THE ENTIRE WORLD EVERY CHRISTMAS.
The benefits are just incalculable. It could bring in BILLIONS OF DOLLARS into the Nigerian economy every December.
This is tourist money that will come into the hands of ordinary Nigerians, not politicians!
The FG needs to look SERIOUSLY into the phenomenon of Detty December, and take it to stratospheric levels.
They can make it go BEYOND Lagos, and choose say Port Harcourt and Abuja for focused activities in Detty December.
Lanruze: 1, The devaluation of the Naira was the major reason Dec. 2024 festivities remains the most impactful in the recent history of Nigerian tourism.
2, Asides from the major currencies like the $ ,€, ¥,£. Smaller African countries even in the CFA zone have their currencies almost double the value of the naira (1,000 CFA = N2,250)
3, CNN Africa reported in it's "Detty December" report that for the first time, the whole Africa stood still for Nigeria with an estimated 500,000 new visitors to Nigeria through Air & land alone.
4, The Big three (3) entertainment exports; Burna Boy, Wizkid and Davido added flavour to the season all with them buying brand new exotic cars triggering a frenzy of wealth, class and hope.
5, International stars like Kamaru Usman, Francis Nganonu, Anthony Joshua etc gave a good show as they spiced up the "Detty Dec". Nigeria and Lagos State has finally become a tourist destination through the Naira devaluation.
6, Lagos State has become more attractive for tourist basically because of its low crime rate and relative peace. The Lagos State Security Trust Fund is unmatched in Nigeria with Air, Sea and Land components including helicopters, attack speed boats and patrol vehicles.
7, The Governor of Lagos, Babajide Sanwo Olu in his interview on TVC has promised that a more deliberate economy would be built around December festivities and it's value chain.
Other Nigerian states can cash in the frenzy for 2025 Dec.
Congratulations to Babajide Sanwo Olu, Congratulations to Nigerian Tourism.
Succinctly stated.
The part of the article referencing the use of crypto currency for making a larger part of the payments caught my eyes though. With increased security comes increased tourism inflows from Diasporans and domestic leisure travelers.
Islie: Lagos, arguably Nigeria’s go-to entertainment hub, was the spotlight of the recently concluded “Detty December” with nightclubs in the state alone generating a staggering N4.32 billion ($2.7 million) during the period.
A new report by advisory firm MO Africa Company Limited analysed data from November 19 to December 26, highlighting how the city’s vibrant hospitality and tourism sectors attracted travelers from across the globe.
Lagos alone welcomed an estimated 1.2 million tourists, of which 60% were domestic travelers.
This surge was partly attributed to insecurity in southeastern Nigeria, which prompted many to prioritise the safer southwestern states.
Most arrivals came for leisure and tourism, further going on to lend credence to Lagos’ position as a pole destination for holiday revelers.
Preferred destinations in Nigeria, for visitors coming from the abroad, included Lagos, Edo, Delta, Ondo, and Ogun states.
Hospitality Boom
The influx of visitors drove record-breaking revenue across multiple sectors with hotels in Lagos reported to have generated an earning of N54 billion ($36 million) from 15,000 bookings in December. Short-term apartment rentals added another N21 billion ($13 million) from nearly 6,000 bookings. Short-let apartments charged an average nightly rate of N120,000 ($74.7).
Nightlife was another standout sector, with Lagos’ top 15 nightclubs generating a combined N4.32 billion ($2.7 million). Daily revenue for clubs averaged N360 million ($224,000), with premium tables fetching up to N1.2 million ($746.7) per night.
Beaches and resorts contributed proportionately as well, accounting for 70% of the N4.5 billion ($2.8 million) earned from recreational activities.
Event Centers and Luxury Rentals Event centers hosted 1,175 bookings in December, yielding N1.2 billion ($804,000). Meanwhile, luxury car rentals saw a boom, with N1.5 billion ($937,500) spent on 750 bookings. High-end vehicles commanded daily rates ranging from N200,000 ($124.4) to N2 million ($1,244).
Kayode Omosebi, CEO of MO Africa Company Limited, says his team surveyed hotels, airports, short-let agents, and nightclubs to compile the data.
Omosebi noted the increasing reliance on cryptocurrency in Lagos’ hospitality sector.
“Eighty five percent of conversion to Naira and payments were done through this exchange platform. A number of bookings were done through agents rather than through booking platforms, which speaks to trust concerns and the power-play of agents in the industry.”
Looking ahead, Omosebi projected that ‘Detty December’ could bring in up to $2 billion in foreign exchange by 2026.
dre11: *Anambra State being the hardest hit, as families shelled out N350.2 million in ransom payments.
*Imo State paid N39 million as ransom, Abia State paid N25 million, while Enugu State and Ebonyi State paid significantly lower amounts, with N4 million and N1 million.
The South East region of the country witnessed a surge in violence perpetrated by separatist groups enforcing sit-at-home orders, which essentially attacked Nigeria’s sovereignty with effrontery and arrant disregard for constituted authority.
The alarming situation escalated on November 18, 2024, when unknown gunmen launched simultaneous attacks on Abatete and Ukpo communities in Anambra state, leaving a trail of destruction and death, including three vigilante members and an innocent citizen. These senseless attacks were recurring nightmares which instilled fear and uncertainty among the populace.
In the year under review, another devastating attack in Aba, Abia state resulted in the loss of 11 lives, including five military personnel and six civilians, with the Army blaming the outlawed separatist group, Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) movement, for the incident.
Many civilians among whom were youths were alleged to have been killed, harassed and assaulted by security personnel in a bid to end the reign of the separatist group in the region.
In fact, a report by SMB Morgen, an Africa-focused market/security intelligence gathering firm, revealed that a staggering N419.2 million ransom was paid between July 2023 and June 2024 in the South-East .
This alarming figure accounted for 40% of the total N1.048 billion paid across the six geo-political zones during the same period, with Anambra State being the hardest hit, as families shelled out N350.2 million in ransom payments, a whopping 88% of the N400 million demanded by kidnappers.
A breakdown of the ransom payments across the South-East states as revealed by the report, showed that Imo State paid N39 million as ransom, Abia State paid N25 million, while Enugu State and Ebonyi State paid significantly lower amounts, with N4 million and N1 million, respectively, as ransom in one year. But in the regional breakdown of the N2.2 trillion ransom payments made in the same period.
According to another data from the Nigeria Bureau of Statistics (NBS) in its 2024 Crime Experience and Security Perception Survey, the South-East paid N85.4 billion, an amount lower when compared to N1.2 trillion paid in the North West, which accounted for the highest share.
Edygrin: Mr Macaroni, a popular Nigerian skit maker and activist, has disclosed why he will continue to snub the serving Lagos State governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu.
Macaroni made the revelation while clapping back at an X user @OyesileJohn, who called him out for snubbing the Governor.
The user @OyesileJohn Twitted: “To d’ifa fun a certain Macarroni who, in an attempt to please the mob, snubbed the governor of Lagos state. Omo ase.”
The post, which has sparked a wave of reactions on social media, has many defending Macaroni for staying true to his values.
Responding to the user, the skit maker in a series of posts on his handle, noted that he would continue to snub Governor Sanwo-Olu.
“I will continue to snub your Governor. He doesn’t mean anything to me, neither do you or your father. I love that you slaves bring this issue up all the time.
“For every time you do, I will send you to your masters.”
Giving reason for his decision, Macaroni further explained that he can never mingle with the government that “stripped me naked, beat, tortured, brutalized and dehumanized me.”
Recounting his experience in detention, he said he was told by the police to “stop disturbing the governor.”
This "boy" called Macaroni feels so entitled and lacks self-awareness or emotional intelligence. Fight for your rights as individuals but know when not to cross the line in certain situations as part of your "war strategy." Balance is key in life. While reading an interview article about him just a few years back, I deduced that this entitlement and overzealousness is part of what led to the private University he attended to suspend him from academic activities.
Just two years ago (2023), I saw a video where he and Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu exchanged greetings at a social event organized by Tony Elumelu. Babajide Sanwo-Olu was even the FIRST person to ask Macaroni jocularly in Yoruba in that video (which was posted right here on NL) if he would not greet him and Macaroni bowed his head and greeted back. To me, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu showed a great deal of love and humility for this young guy by reaching out to him first while shaking hands with other guests at the event.
Macorani's recent outburst here is childish, but again, that's his prerogative but he will learn the hard way. You can't continue to hold deep grudges against others (who have personally reached out to you) perpetually because that is DARK or NEGATIVE energy you are dissipating which even medical experts say based off of credible research increases the occurrence of terminal diseases and shortens your life span. Period.
From the video evidence right below, he wasn't stripped fully NAKED like he falsely posted online. His shirt and that of others were removed to allow fresh air in.
Mr Macaroni And Others After Arrest By The Police.
Gberigbeboy: The Nigeria Police Force has arrested a 38-year-old man, Destiny Ekhorutomuen, for allegedly using social media platforms to spread false and inciting content intended to damage the reputation of the police and provoke public discontent.
Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Muyiwa Adejobi, revealed this in a statement on Friday, stating that the arrest was made by the National Cyber Crime Centre in Uhunmwonde Local Government Area of Edo State.
On 8 December 2024, operatives of the Force apprehended Destiny Ekhorutomuen, a 38-year-old suspect, in Uhunmwonde Local Government Area of Edo State.
“The suspect allegedly created and operated multiple social media accounts to spread false and inciting content designed to provoke the public against the Nigeria Police,” Adejobi said.
The police expressed concerns over the deliberate spread of falsehoods, describing it as a threat to national stability, societal cohesion, and public trust.
“This deliberate spread of falsehoods erodes public trust, undermines societal cohesion, and poses significant risks to national security,” the statement read.
Adejobi emphasised that the police have zero tolerance for such actions, warning that the misuse of social media to propagate fake news or incite disorder is a criminal offence punishable under Nigerian law.
“The Nigeria Police reiterates its zero tolerance for acts aimed at threatening the nation’s stability or tarnishing the reputation of the police and other government institutions,” he said.
He urged Nigerians to exercise caution and responsibility in their use of information.
“Citizens are urged to exercise caution and responsibility in their use of information, as the collective peace and unity of the nation depend on it,” he added.
Those were incredibly awesome moments in time and space. 5 living former and current POTUS! "The Presidents Club."
Jimmy Carter was a truly amazing man who did greater things after spending only one term as the POTUS before the iconic Hollywood movie star, Ronald Reagan took over as the new POTUS in January of 1981.

zero8zero: It was indeed 2016 under Buhari, I thought GEJ did it after election before handing over..
Right, GEJ could have easily done it because intelligence officers such as the late Hassan Stan-Labo said he presented security Intel to the GEJ government. Even media publications did undercover investigations which revealed that Ijaws were behind the pipeline vandalizations in Arepo, and more.
Maximum deployments of Air Force platforms would have eliminated the criminals from the creeks of Arepo BUT Goodluck Jonathan wasn't keen on dealing with the outlaws among his Ijaw ethnic kinsmen causing massive mayhem during his tenure in the creeks of Lagos, Ogun, and Ondo States.

delpee: True, I remember this very well. No one talked about collateral damage. The bombardment was massive and total as we got to hear.
When terrorism persists, the people and the leaders are usually involved.
Indeed, it was in 2016 when the former President Muhammed Buhari ordered the Nigerian Air Force to massively bombard the criminal gangs of Ijaws who had become a menace in the creeks of Lagos, Ogun, and Ondo States (while Goodluck Jonathan was the President he did nothing despite intelligence reports given to him) in major operations codenamed "Operation Awatse" (Awatse is a Hausa word) after the first-class Oba of Iba Kingdom (Oniba of Iba) was kidnapped right in his Palace, and dragged into a boat, the well-armed Ijaw boys took him into the creeks of Arepo in Ogun State and requested for ransom. That was the biggest insult ever and those Ijaw boys and their female accomplices paid dearly for it with the lose of over 100 of them when Nigerian Air Force platforms such as jet fighters and ISR surveillance aircraft were deployed over the creeks after former Governor Akinwunmi Ambode and prominent citizens of Lagos requested the Federal Government to order them to bomb the criminals out of the thick creeks. Diasporans who have realtime digital information on the goings on over there in Nigeria through news networks were scared to fly home for holidays because of the kidnappings.
In surveillance videos of the Nigerian Air Force that were made available, these criminals who had been involved in murders, rapes during vicious armed robberies, several kidnappings of residents from highbrow areas of Isheri, pipeline vandalizations at Arepo, etc, where fully armed to the teeth with rocket launchers mounted on their boats and observatories just like they've been doing in Delta, Bayelsa, and Rivers States.
Muhammad Buhari is to be thanked for bringing sanity to the creeks and immediate environs in Lagos, Ogun, and Ondo States. Those same bloody criminals operated with so much impunity throughout Goodluck Jonathan's Presidency and it took another President to finally flush them out from the creeks of Yorubaland.
zero8zero: Coming to SW was a great mistake. Yorubas will crush them with everything they have. I could recall when some militants were Kidnapping & killing in some creeks of Ikorodu, Yoruba rallied round and called on GEJ to deploy jets to the area. When Nigerian Airforce deployed Ariel bombardments on them, they never came back again. Nobody was saying, Nigeria govt was killing our people or civilians. When it comes to insecurity, all hands must be on deck.
You're wrong here, it was NOT under Goodluck Jonathan who left office in 2015... You got the timelines mixed up, watch the video of the Nigerian Air Force bombardment of the criminals from August 2016 right below. The former President Goodluck Jonathan was very weak in dealing with the Ijaw criminals operating with total arrogance and impunity in the creeks of Lagos, Ogun, and Ondo States (especially in the creeks of Arepo and Ikorodu) while extending their criminality into vicious armed robberies, rapes, and kidnappings of many people from highbrow areas near the water ways in Lagos such as the upscale Isheri North within Ogun and Lagos States.
It was in 2016 after former President Buhari came on board that he finally ordered the Nigerian Air Force fighter jets and aerial surveillance platforms to ruthlessly bomb out those criminals among the Ijaws who were involved in pipeline vandalisms in the creeks of Arepo, armed robberies, rapes of victims, and the kidnappings of many people in Lagos and Ogun States including the kidnapping of the first-class Oba of Iba Kingdom (Oniba of Iba) in Lagos who was beaten and dragged out of his Palace by those bastards and led into a boat for movement to their hide out in the Arepo creeks. That was the final straw that angered everyone and led to the targeted bombardments of Arepo Creek in Ogun State and other hideouts of the well armed Ijaw criminals who had anti-aircraft guns mounted on their boats and observation posts in the creeks of Arepo, Lagos and Ondo States (most of those Ijaws came from Delta and Bayelsa States to engage in the pipeline vandalisms) leading to the death of over 100 of them in the targeted bombardments.

On the contrary, the Fasola area of Oyo State where these insidious terrorist cells (Whether from the Lake Chad region or Sahelian region) were detected is right within the cultivated agricultural belt. Read the original article post again to get a hang of it. Oyo State is the largest state in the South of Nigeria (followed by Cross River State) so, the agricultural belt to the North of Oyo is quite large.
ogododo: Yoruba Nation agitator, Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho, has said many Nigerians are no longer proud to identify themselves as citizens of the West African nation.
In a video seen online on Thursday, Igboho, who was spotted at an airport in the United Kingdom, said corruption, insecurity, and a bad economy are the reasons for the lack of patriotism in the country.
The separatist also stated that various ethnic nationalities should be allowed to go their separate ways if the country cannot function as a unified country.
Igboho said Yoruba youths, who have gained valuable knowledge and experience from travelling worldwide, are eager to transform the Yoruba nation into a modern, prosperous society similar to that of Europe.
He said, “Even inside the airport, there is no security. They can steal your belongings inside your bag (in Nigerian airports). All these are the things dissuading people from being proud of the country, Nigeria.
“Things like that make us sad to identify ourselves as Nigerians. This is why we advocate for separation. If Nigeria is not working as a country, it is better we go our separate ways.
“Our (Yoruba) youths will transform Yoruba nation. Most of them have travelled across the world, and they have learned a lot. If they come back to Yoruba land, the knowledge will help them build it and transform the nation like those in Europe.”

UltraSolid: And you are clearly one of the worst and most ignorant Nigerians to exist. Do you know the. Antecedent of Bala Mohammed?
This is a Governor, at the heights of the Fulani herdsmen murderous menace, who defended the rights of Fulani herders to carry AK47 for "protection" instead of suggestion measures to de-escalate the tense situation threatening to tear Nigeria apart back then.
Do you know his record as FCT Minister Wike has already shamed in even his first week in same job?
I guess inbred hate has so damaged you guys you would worship the devil if he is attacking Tinubu.
Read below to note the person blind hatred of Tinubu has now turned you an automatic supporter of.
Leobankx: The Presidency has accused Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, of engaging in “irresponsible politics” and failing to prioritize the welfare of his constituents, many of whom it described as among the most impoverished in the country.
In a strongly worded statement released Friday morning by the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Public Communication, Sunday Dare, the Presidency expressed disappointment over Governor Mohammed’s alleged preoccupation with political grandstanding instead of addressing the pressing challenges facing Bauchi State.
“Governor Bala Mohammed is playing irresponsible politics instead of addressing the numerous challenges facing Bauchi State. “The people of his state, who still rank among the most impoverished Nigerians, deserve better leadership and governance,” the statement read.
The Presidency further criticized Governor Mohammed for allegedly diverting attention from critical state issues by targeting the administration of President Bola Tinubu. It noted that while President Tinubu remained focused on implementing reforms to drive national development and economic recovery, Governor Mohammed appeared more interested in using the federal government as a “diversionary tool.”
The statement challenged Governor Mohammed to reflect on his achievements in improving the lives of Bauchi residents.
“President Tinubu has a national mandate to deliver on his promises, and Nigerians are already seeing the positive impact of his reforms. Meanwhile, the question for Governor Bala Mohammed is simple: what is he doing to make life better for the people of Bauchi State? Has he utilized the increased resources at his disposal to improve their quality of life?”
The statement also emphasized President Tinubu’s dedication to fostering collaboration with state governments and stakeholders to enhance Nigerians’ well-being. It warned that any attempts to undermine the federal government’s reform agenda were “self-serving” and “undemocratic.”
Governor Bala Mohammed has yet to respond to the Presidency’s allegations as of the time of filing this report.

Do you know these fulanis install their own sarkis in some places in the North, parallel to the indigenous ruler and the government will recognize their own ruler and not the traditional one? If the indigenes protest the situation, they'll use the armed forces to protect the sarki.
I witnessed this first hand in Bwari, Abuja. Right now, the Town has the Sagwari (Gwarinpa) and Sarki (Fulani). We all know the town belongs to the gwari people, but the government still recognizes the Sarki anyways. The time a Sarki died, the gwaris were trying to prevent them from installing a new one, but they enjoyed government protection. FreeStuffsNG: Benin has in recent years witnessed increasing jihadist attacks in the northern region.
Benin forces have suffered heavy losses in an attack near the border with insurgency-hit Niger and Burkina Faso, authorities have said.
Colonel Faizou Gomina, the national guard's chief of staff, said one of Benin's most well-equipped military positions had been hit in the north on Wednesday evening.
"We've been dealt a very hard blow," Col Gomina added.
It is not clear yet who is behind the attack but the country has in recent years witnessed increasing attacks in the northern region blamed on jihadist groups based in neighbouring countries.
More than 120 Beninese military officers were killed between 2021 and December 2024, a diplomatic source told the AFP news agency.
Last month, gunmen killed three soldiers and wounded four others who were guarding an oil pipeline in the north-east.
Col Gomina did not provide a death toll for Wednesday's attack, but the main opposition party, The Democrats, said about 30 soldiers had been killed in the Alibori region, Reuters news agency reports.
A security source put the death toll at 28, according to AFP.
"We are continuing cleaning-up operations. Forty assailants have been neutralised so far," the military source added.
Col Gomina said the position attacked had been "one of the strongest and most militarised" and called on military commanders to improve their operational strategies in order to counter security threats.
"Wake up, officers and section chiefs, we have battles to win," he said.
I posted some information about this security issue in the Sahelian region of West Africa on my thread in early December 2024.
This Benin Republic attack is the destructive effect of the Al-Qaeda affiliates such as the notorious Mali-headquartered jihadist terror group JNIM on the Northern frontiers of Benin Republic. JNIM has also infiltrated Burkina Faso and Niger Republic. These 3 countries under the military boys MUST seek the help of multiple countries outside of the Russians because they are endangering the security of other West African countries by not targeting the terrorists efficiently.
Over half of the total landmass of Mali and Burkina Faso are already in the hands of these jihadist terrorist groups ever since the French forces left and the Russians came in to help these overzealous military guys of Mali, Niger Republic and Burkina Faso. The bad state of insecurity in those 3 West African countries in the Sahelian region is further fueling instability, kidnappings for ransom, and highway robberies in the Northern regions of a lot of West African countries from Cote d'Ivoire, Nigeria, Benin Republic, Ghana (Northern Ghana is used as a logistics base for these terror groups who have vowed to start attacks on Ghana soon), and more.

delpee: If they're truly in Fashola, the earlier they're dislodged, the better. That is supposed to be a farming cum agric-industrial zone. Bandits in that location spells doom for progress. The Oyo-Ogbomoso- Oke Ogun axis will also not be safe.
Hope that's not the reason why we're having all kinds of Alfas preaching extremism in the SW lately. That's how it usually starts...BH/ISWAP for instance. Seyi Makinde should focus on a solution as a matter of urgency.

Nigerians on Wednesday praised the quality of refined petroleum products sourced from the Dangote Petroleum Refinery and sold at MRS Oil Plc filling stations across the country.
They particularly praised the impressive burn rate of its fuel, which lasts longer compared to other products imported into the country and sold by other firms.
Before now, complaints from drivers have centred around the inability of a full tank to last for a week of commuting to and from the office, with discussions varying based on the car’s age. Some argue that N10,000 worth of fuel only covers the journey from home to the office.
Motorists, who expressed satisfaction with receiving value for their money, also criticized the NNPCL for deceiving Nigerians and importing substandard fuel into the country.
Two weeks ago, the Dangote refinery announced its partnership with MRS Petrol station to sell petrol from its retail outlets nationwide at N935 per litre. It said the partnership is to ensure that this price reduction gets to the end consumers.
The development, which sparked a pricing war in the downstream sector, forced the national oil firm to reduce its petrol price to N899 per litre.
Taking to the microblogging site X (formerly Twitter), @Uncle Dips who initiated the conversation on the issue mentioned that his car, a Ford, has used only a quarter of its fuel despite driving 110 kilometres.
He said, “The last fuel I bought from MRS has done almost 100km already and the tank is still three-quarter full. For a Ford that is normally a guzzler, this is a big deal. I’m happy and sad at the same time!”
Anike of Lagos who writes @Oluwakemistrie confirmed the fuel efficiency, saying “Bought 26 litres at MRS and it has served more than 42 litres we bought from NNPC. MRS way moving forward. Thank you, Twitter.”
Hassan Musa Abbah who tweets as @sinotwist, said, “It’s true, I have noticed a sharp decline in my car fuel consumption when I buy from there and a sharp increase when I buy from NNPC. They have been cheating us for a long time.”
Also, Williams Amobi wrote, “Dangote actually has the best fuel in the country. Not that stuff NNPC is selling. This one is better refined and is good for your engine and lasts longer than the golden brown-urine coloured stuff they sell to us.”
Taofeek T. Gawat @tfk_gawat retweeted saying, “MRS is priority. NNPC is an alternative.”
Another user @Rilwannajib promised to confirm the assertion and dump fuel from the national oil firm if true. He wrote, “I’ll try this Dangote fuel everyone is giving a good review about and once it’s true, NNPC & anyone it supplies won’t see a kobo of my money again.”
An X user, C J Mordi @jeromemordi also tweeted, “I’ve decided, going forward, to buy fuel from only stations that stock Dangote fuel. So far, I buy from MRS and there’s a clear difference in price, quality and pump accuracy. I will no longer be patronising fuel importers. #BuyNigerian.”
Reacting, an oil and gas expert, Kelvin Emmanuel said the new finding only proves that quality matters.
