TimeManager:
President Bola Tinubu has congratulated six distinguished Diaspora Nigerians named by President Joe Biden among the 400 recipients of the Presidential Early Career Award for Scientists and Engineers (PECASE) in the United States.

A statement issued on Thursday by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President (Information & Strategy) noted that the prestigious recognition, established by former President Bill Clinton in 1996, is the highest honour bestowed by the United States government on outstanding scientists and engineers in the early stages of their careers.

It said this year’s awardees, announced by President Biden on January 14, 2025, are employed or funded by 14 participating United States government agencies.

The Nigerian honorees include Azeez Butali, Gilbert Lilly Endowed Professor of Diagnostic Sciences, College of Dentistry, University of Iowa;

Ijeoma Opara, Associate Professor of Public Health (Social and Behavioral Sciences), Yale School of Public Health, Yale University;

and Oluwatomi Akindele, Postdoctoral researcher at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory.

@Doylestown92,

My pleasure... Anytime.

Your insightful thread indeed brought back memories for me as well. Especially with reference to the U.S. Collegiate and U.S. NBA basketballer, Yinka Dare and his older brother Michael Dare, who I first personally knew as buddies back in the 1980s. They are one of the finest guys of Nigerian descent and paternally from Kabba.

Have a fulfilling year 2025 ahead!

Cheers.

If you like continue to paddle lies in this forum "Na u Sabi".
One will wonder why you believe oba, when he said he is descendant of Oduwawa and this same time refuse to believe what he also said earlier that Oduduwa was a banished Prince from the Kingdom.
I don't want to go into details of what happened and how it happened but believe it or not, it wasn't Oba Erediauwa that propagated "Oduduwa Benin's son controversy" but an age long believe in Benin kingdom.
As for the videos you posted, it doesn't really matter to us in Benin kingdom/city because even the Ogiemiens know where they rightfully belong in the Kingdom.
Furthermore, in Benin, we only have one king and that is the Oba of Benin.
Oba-kha-tor-kpere, Ise!
This will be my final convo with you on this. My time is limited right now.

For your information, CLEARLY since 1981, I've had deep insights from credible historical researches and archival materials on the cultures and histories of many major ethnic groups in Nigeria from the Edos, Yorubas, Igalas, and many more from around the world. So, you are dealing with a veteran of advanced historical knowledge here NOT a young wannabe who just copies and pastes wild speculations but gives history based on facts and credible evidence.

In my posts, I CLEARLY gave credible evidence from 5 good historical sources right BELOW numbered from NUMBERS 1 to 5 who CLEARLY debunked the Ekaladehan banished Ogiso Prince fabrication. Ekaladehan died in Ugboton based on the Benin history book from the late Prof. Egharevba.

1. The Ogiamien family sources who are aboriginal to Benin from the defunct Ogiso era. The one full page 2018 Guardian newspaper interview Weblink that I attached was a MAJOR evidence for you to read.
Ogiso and Ogiamien are Aborigine Binis while Oba Of Benin is of Yoruba origin
=>https://guardian.ng/features/ogiso-and-ogiamien-are-aborigine-binis-while-oba-of-benin-is-of-yoruba-descent-high-chief-esotericist-monday-wehere/

2.I attached the videos of a separate Benin man (Murphy) who is paternally directly descended from the Ogiso era and he ALSO said all the deities such as Ogun, Osun, Olokun, and the Chieftaincy titles in the Palace of the Oba of Benin do NOT exist in the Ogiso era but we're brought from Ile Ife.

All Benin Obas are from ile ife

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z2Gf9LUr1-o

3. There is an over 2 hours video interview of a respected indigene and personality from Usen Kingdom in Ovia South West LGA EDO State who also said Oduduwa's lineage is Yoruba and NOT a missing Prince from the Ogiso era. The people of Usen all agree that they are Yorubass from Ife and Oranmiyan's older brother was the FIRST traditional ruler of Usen. This is the reason why in traditional morning salutations, the greet one another with DELAUHE meaning "How is Ife?"

The Oba of Benin is the ONLY one who is greeted with the morning salutation L'AMOGUN referencing Ogun, the Yoruba Deity of War and Iron

The respected Usen indigene ALSO said in the video that ALL the deities such as Ogun, Osun, Olokun, and the Chieftaincy titles in the Palace of the Oba of Benin and USEN where brought by Oranmiyan and his older brother Afelogiyan from Ile Ife Palace which do NOT exist in the Ogiso era but were Yoruba Deities brought from Ile Ife. He gave an example of the Benin High Chief titles such as Esogban which in Usen and Ile Ife Palaces is known originally "as Asogbon" a CLEARLY Yoruba word and Chieftaincy title.

4. The traditionally well-known Ile Ife account from the Ife Palace and academia ALSO confirms that Oduduwa was a Yoruba man from Ile Ife and NOT from a fictional banished Prince from Ogiso era.

5. The erudite scholars, Prof Jide Osuntokun and Prof Banji Akintoye also CLEARLY stated that Oduduwa was a Yoruba man from Oke Ora in Osun State who's grandson Oranmiyan left for what is now Benin via Usen to become an Oba briefly.

6. Finally, I and other historians and scholars strongly affirm that it was during the reign of Oba Erediauwa that a book was published in 2004 which WRONGLY attributing Oduduwa to be the fictitious Ekaladehan figure.

Among the Yorubas, such names with the ODU prefixes exist like Oduduwa, Oduyemi, Odujole, Odubayo, Odusina, Olusola, etc. So, the Oduduwa name is purely of Yoruba origins.

There is NOTHING absolutely wrong in the Oba of Benin linking his family history with the Ogiso era because maternally the Obas are indeed connected to aboriginal roots BUT the paternal roots if the Oba of Benin is of Ife (Ufe or Uhe) origins from over 800 tears ago and there is NOTHING to be ashamed of! Nobody can drive any Oba of Benin away from Benin like some idiots and illiterates have been threatening in videos on YouTube who the Benin guy "Wounded Civilian" angrily exposed to the whole world in his videos for threatening the Benin, Ikwerreand other people in an expansionist agenda.

OVB123:
This same Oba of Benin that said in that video that he is a descendants of of Oromiyan, also said in that same video that Oduduwa was a banished Prince from Benin.
Didn't you also watch it? How about that?
I'll give you a detailed response.

Indeed, you are correct because I watched the full coronation video and the current Oba Ewuare II of Benin said so on the day of his October 20, 2016 coronation ceremony BUT he merely rehashed the same fabricated story from the Palace about a fictional Ekaladehan who he falsely claimed was Oduduwa. He did NOT deny his royal family paternal lineage came through Oranmiyan in Ile Ife in Osun State and that Oranmiyan was the FIRST ever Oba of Benin after the Ogiso era ended, but he was highly incorrect in stating that Oduduwa was Ekaladehan from the Ogiso era, and that Oranmiyan was Oduduwa's son. [Oranmiyan was Oduduwa's grandson in reality]. This fabrication was invented during the reign of his father Oba Erediauwa of Benin for internal political reasons especially with the Ogiamien family and some other parts of Edo State who were revolting and asking for more recognition and more.

There was indeed NO missing Prince Ekaladehan in the Ogiso era. The Ogiamien family who are directly descended from the Ogiso era have debunked that lie of a missing Prince called Ekaladehan in several media interviews such as in Guardian newspaper in 2018 which you can still read online in the links BELOW and even revealed that the Oba of Benin's paternal lineage is of Yoruba origin from Ife in Osun State via Oranmiyan. A second MAJOR evidence comes from some other Benin folks whose paternal lineage goes to the Ogiso era who have also debunked the Ekaladehan missing Prince falsehood in widely-circulated videos online and even stated that the real Ekaladehan died at Ugboton. These historical fabrications from the Palace of the Oba of Benin and the High Chiefs have lowered them in the eyes of discerning folks who do NOT compromise on facts. The history of Benin Empire, Ile Ife and Oyo Empire are popular internationally and these kinds of fabrications have led to confusions for a lot of people and students searching for genuine historical information online.

Watch the 2 Videos BELOW and read the articles from and about the Ogiamien family:

1] Ogiso and Ogiamien are Aborigine Binis while Oba Of Benin is of Yoruba origin

Igodomigodo Family - Mar 25 2024

A third MAJOR evidence which also corroborates the ORIGINAL Ile Ife account of Oduduwa's REAL Yoruba origins comes from the people of Usen in Ovia South West LGA of Edo State who are directly of Ufe (Ife or Uhe) descent and have NEVER denied their Yoruba paternal Origins except the Oba of Benin Palace and both are ancestrally direct cousins. The current Oba of Usen Kingdom is Oba Olu Ogbe II who is a direct descendant of Afelogiyan, who is Oranmiyan's biological older brother. As you already know from my post that you quoted, Oranmiyan (whose real names are Oluaiye) and Afelogiyan his older brother who was the FIRST ruler of Usen were Oduduwa's grandchildren. It was from the Yoruba community of Usen that Oranmiyan left to become the Oba in Benin, but as the current Oba of Benin said in that coronation video, he did NOT stay long. This is why Oranmiyan's biological son given birth to by the daughter of an Egor noble man, Oba Eweka took over from his father. His father then returned to Yorubaland and then founded the Oyo Kingdom which then rose to become the mighty Oyo Empire which stretched from Yorubaland in Nigeria to Togo and Oyo Empire incorporated via conquest the current Nupes and Baribas of Kwara State, the Aja, Ewe and Fon peoples of Benin Republic and Togo.

Just as I stated in my original post that you quoted, Oduduwa originally came from the hilly and mountainous Oke Ora just 8 miles away from the current Ile Ife in the same Osun State, and this is the reason why based off of Ufe (Ife) customs and traditions, every Oba (or Ooni of Ife) has to go to Oke Ora as part of the coronation rites. The ancestors of the people you call Yorubas today have lived in autochtonous communities in Yorubaland for thousands of years, long before even Oduduwa was born, so, it's a well-known fact in Ife that the Oduduwa Dynasty is the 3rd dynasty. There are 2 other ruling dynasties that existed in what is now Ife before Oduduwa came. These past Kings were defied as part of the 201 Gods or Deities in Ife.

The current Olugbo of Ugbo Kingdom (HRM Oba Frederick Akinruntan) in the oil and gas-rich Ilaje area of Ondo State did clarify in 2004 that his ancestors were the ones originally occupying what is now Ile Ife before Oduduwa arrived BUT in order to avoid further bloodshed, Ifa divination instructed that his ancestors should relocate to another area. This is a well-known fact of history even in Ife inner circles. The previous Alaafin of Oyo Kingdom also confirmed it. So, Oduduwa himself was NOT the direct ancestor of all Yorubas but he is just one of the ancestors. I hope you understand clearly now. Also, you can read the books and articles especially from 2004 of the great historians Professor Jide Osuntokun (Nigeria’s former Ambassador to Germany) and Professor Banji Akintoye who also CLEARLY stated that based on archeological evidence, autochtonous communities existed in Yorubaland long before Oduduwa was born and Prof. Jide Osuntokun did state that Oduduwa ONLY represents the ancestor or progenitor of the current line of the great Kings (Obas) of paternal Yoruba descent from Nigeria to Togo

Science/TechnologyRe: $500 Million Cable Car Mass Urban Transit System Set To Launch In Lagos by Konquest: 4:32am On Jan 16, 2025
temiiii:
A $500 million cable car mass urban transit system is set to launch in Lagos courtesy of investor, Ropeways Transport limited.
The cable car transit system will provide commuters an affordable and safe means of transportation. Ropeways reportedly signed a 30 year Franchise Agreement with the Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA) and the Government of Lagos State on the project.

The various routes covered in the Lagos environs include Ijora – Iddo, Iddo – Adeniji, Apapa – Oluwole, Oluwole – Adeniji, Adeniji – Obalende, Obalende – Falomo, and Falomo – Victoria Island.
Commuters are expected to pay about N200 and N300 per trip.
According to Dapo Olumide, C.E.O of Ropeways Transport Limited, “By complementing existing transport modes, the Lagos Cable Car Transit System will play its part in reducing the traffic congestion in the city.”

“The existing metropolitan highway infrastructure is severely constrained, with journeys to and from work within the city regularly exceeding three hours. In addition, studies carried out in 2009 on vehicle registration show that an additional 200,000 vehicles are registered annually in Lagos State.
This equates to 222 vehicles per kilometre of road in Lagos, which by far outweighs the national average of just 11 vehicles per kilometer of road, with vehicles estimated to contribute more than 70 per cent of the air pollution in Lagos,” he said.

“Presently, there is a need to ameliorate the existing congestion on the three bridges connecting Lagos Mainland to Lagos Island and to provide a link between Apapa and the Central Business District on Lagos Island, and also to link Victoria Island with the Central Business District of Lagos Island. These are what we hope to achieve with the launch of the cable transit system,” he added.

This is absolutely ridiculous. How did the airline end up having to offload certain passenger luggages? The strong resistance from the woman and the missed flights and appointments of passengers would have been avoided of the airline has a raised performance bar. Besides, Ibom Air flies out of a sunset airport.

As a parent, hide ur girl child from men.

Men corrupt girls than girls corrupt themselves.

You will see a 50yrs old man trying to fvck a 16yrs old girl.

Though some women also do it to young guys but it's rare
While I agree that parents have to learn very early to set boundaries for our kids, especially the girls, I STRONGLY differ with the bolded section of your post.

You have to be brutally honest with yourself here based off of advanced human psychology. "Most females are NOT prudes and have NEVER been prudes."

The average girl under 15 years of age has already started developing deep sexual fantasies due to the raging hormones that kick in during puberty and the monthly cycles which trigger hightened sexual urges, but they pretend a lot in the presence of their parents and those close to them. It is what it is... It's the same with the teenage boys.

So, these girls chat with friends and discuss sexually charged ideas and fantasies while some gravitate towards reading core romance novels which further fire them up. To throw more in the mix, statistics from the United States alone show that before the age of 21, slightly more than 90% of girls have engaged in "self-stimulation" (or mastub**ion) of the sensitive female genital region due to school and environmental stress, reading romance novels, watching sexually explicit scenes in movies, etc! The FACT is that females become sexual beings already from the early teenage puberty stage through to 16 years and above, so, young females DON'T require that older man of 50 and above to trigger it or corrupt them. The older man only comes in to complement what is already embedded and vibrating in the feminine energy field.

I have come across many Nigerian men, both young and middle age, who are always in the habit of criticizing young women on social media platforms such as Instagram, Facebook, Tiktok, etc, for exposing their bodies and twerking. The common lines you hear are 'These ones still get parents'?...'Useless girls'...'Ehen, that's the only thing they can offer'...'See them, fish brain'...'Ashawo'...'Olosho', etc.

When you visit the pages of these same women that are constantly being abused, you will be amazed by the number of followers they have. Some of them have millions of followers while others have followers running into hundreds of thousands.

My question is: Who are the people following these women? Are their followers ghosts? You cannot tell me that majority of their followers are women, because the truth is that their twerking and body exposure attract more men than women to their pages! You will criticize publicly but follow them secretly like perverts, in order to be among the first to see their videos, and end up calling men who say the slightest positive thing about these women names like SIMPS and the likes.

This type of hypocrisy is terrible and stinks like rotten eggs! Make una dey try abeg. Stop criticizing the food that you secretly salivate over.

Indeed, as a world history enthusiast for many years now, I came across documents in the archives emphasizing that in the whole of the Old Northern Nigeria Region, the Old Kabba Province was always leading or coming tops in education.

The Okun-Yorubas and Ebiras of the current Kogi State and parts of Yorubas from the current Kwara State were the major academic arrow heads of the Old Kabba Province. The Old Ilorin Province too had brilliant folks as well.

No Yoruba in Edo

Akoko-Edo are NOT Yoruba
I have to step into your convo... You are historically incorrect here.

Usen, Egbeta, and Utese in Ovia South West LGA of Edo State for instance are ancestrally originally of Ufe (Ife) descent from over 900 years ago. The current traditional ruler of Usen (formerly called Ife Kekere) is His Royal Majesty Oba Olu Ogbe, the Olu Awure of Usenland. He is a direct descendant of Afelogiyan, Oranmiyan's biological older brother who was the first ever ruler of Usen. Both Prince Afelogiyan and Prince Oranmiyan who later became the first Oba of Benin are both grandsons of Oduduwa who originally came from Oke Ora [Oke means mountain and Ora is the name of a Yoruba deity) just 8 miles from what is now Ile Ife. This is what is referred to allegorically in Yoruba religious liturgy as the "descent from the sky" of Oduduwa.

Just so you know, the people of Usen speak their Yoruba dialect till today (and also speak Benin language because they are close to Benin and the Palace of the Oba of Benin in terms of ancestry as direct cousins). It was directly from Usen that Oranmiyan went to what is now Benin and become the FIRST ever Oba of Benin after the Ogiso era ended.
This is why Usen plays a strong role during every coronation ceremony of any Oba of Benin. During the coronation ceremony of the current Oba Ewuare II in 2016, he CLEARLY affirmed in the video that he is a direct descendant on the paternal line of Oranmiyan who came from Ife in Osun State to become the first Oba of Benin over 800 years ago and stated that he is the 40th Oba of Benin. So, the people of Usen in Ovia South West LGA of EDO State who have NEVER denied their Ife ancestry (unlike the Oba of Benin's Palace since the time of Oba Erediauwa in the early 2000s for political subterfuge), and they greet one another with the family salutation called DELAUHE meaning "How is Ife?" and all Benin people who have ancestral paternal lineages to Ile Ife from centuries back all engage in the same DELAUHE salutations. The Oba of Benin is greeted or saluted with LAMOGUN emphasizing the connection with Ogun, the Yoruba deity of War and Iron which was introduced from Ife as told by the people of Usen. The maternal descent of Oba Eweka the son of Oranmiyan is of Egor origin which is aboriginal so, the Oranmiyan Dynasty indeed has Yoruba paternal lineage and aboriginal maternal lineage from the Ogiso era.

They are absolutely well-read and accomplished folks from the music maestro Art Alade (Dare Art Alade's biological father), to Yinka Dare of George Washington University and the U.S. NBA, to Tolu Arotile (the FIRST ever female combat helicopter pilot of the Nigerian Air Force in 2019 who actually flew on combat missions against terrorists), and more.

Is it by force to be part of igbo.

Igbo people claiming ikwerre peoples congress.

Ndi Ara
I have a vast deal of advanced historical knowledge here from sources before 1900 and related with friendly Ikwerre folks when I worked in a major multinational oil and gas company in PH back in the 1990s to the 2000s. I did ask them why they claimed they were NOT Igbos when there existed traces of cultural affinity with them which the Ikwerres friends of mine termed as "acculturation."

Indeed, Ogbakor Ikwerre Worldwide is the ONLY official organization of the indigenous Ikwerre people which was founded in 1963 with the Ikwerre pioneer Chairman being Chief E. J. A. Oriji, and even the great Ikwerre son, author and veteran of the 3rd Marine Commando of the Nigerian Army during the Nigerian Civil War, Captain Elechi Amadi, wrote in his famous book "Sunset Biafra" that even back in the early 1960s before the start of the exactly 2 years and 6 months Nigerian Civil War from July 1967 to January 1970 took place, Ogbakor Ikwerre had rejected being lumped up with the Ibo (Igbo) ethnic group by the British and stated that they are a DISTINCT group. So, this didn't happen after the Nigerian Civil War like some ill-informed young Igbos have been incorrectly saying online.

Right BELOW is are two 2016 NL thread podts from an Ikwerre guy detailing out excerpts and pictures of pages from one of the books on Elechi Amadi entitled: "Elechi Amadi: A Quintessential Giant."

I'm also aware from Ikwerre sources and indeed other advanced history books written by the White historians and other educated folks before 1900 that there are Aro settlers among the Ikwerres (and the Ijaws of Bonny Island) who organized the SLAVE TRADE back in the 1700s and 1800s where the interior tribes now referred to as Ibos (Igbos) were brought by land and through the Imo River and even via slave ports such as Aboh in Delta State to be sold to the White slave traders through the Ijaws of Bonny, Kalabari, etc, who were the middle men on the Atlantic coast. It is these descendants of these Aros living among the Ikwerres that are claiming Igbo descent and hence took part in the Ohaneze elections.
Since they are of Aro origins, it's revealing, just like the current Abia State Governor, Alex Otti (who stated in an insightful interview he granted to PUNCH newspaper sometime after 2010 about the strong resistance he got towards his Governorship plan under APGA because he is a DIRECT descendant of Aros originally from Arochukwu). Alex Otti stated that the Aros and Ibibio immigrants (I assume arrived due to their strong involvement in the slave trade of the 1700s to 1800s) constituted about 10% in the Aba region where the Ngwas who migrated from Mbaise were in the majority.

It’s a well-known historical fact from the slave ships databases that I have read indicate that 80 percent of those enslaved people from the Ibo hinterlands who were sold to the White slave traders on Bonny Island were Ibo females! Jaja of Opobo himself was a slave from what is now Imo State (Amaigbo) who was later set free by his Bonny Ijaw masters and he went through Ijaw initiation rites and assumed an Ijaw name and identity as it was customary for all freed slaves. So, a lot of the Ibo presence in the Rivers State axis of the Niger Delta from the 1700s to the 1800s had to do with the slave trade organized by Arochukwu (Aro Confederacy) and her close allies such as the Abam and Ohafia all in Abia State who raided for slaves especially in the Ibo interior. This is why Asari Dokubo said in a video in response to what he called attacks on him by some Ibos that his direct male ancestor was an Abam man who came with an Aro expedition and the Amanyanabo requested that he should stay, and that's how he became an Ijaw. So, the Aros NEVER sold themselves or the Abams and Ohafia (who were their SLAVE-raiding allies into slavery). It was other tribes in the Ibo interior these guys sold out to the White men especially through Bonny Island. In fact, one of King Perekules of Bonny Island (Anglicised to Pepple by the White guys) was given an Aro wife to marry by the Aros who settled in the midst of the Ijaws. These information are in advanced history books that also document the Bonny Civil War and the eventual restoration of the rule of Perekule over his ancestral land.

BusinessRe: First Bank V Nduka Obaigbena: Oil Vessel Owned By General Hydrocarbons Seized by Konquest:
Fergie.001:
The legal battle between Femi Otedola’s First Bank and Nduka Obaigbena’s General Hydrocarbons Limited has intensified. In the latest development, the Federal High Court in Port Harcourt has granted an order to arrest and detain the crude oil cargo on board the Floating Production Storage and Offloading (FPSO) Vessel Tamara Tokoni.

Personnel of the Nigerian Navy have since detained the cargo in line with the court order, PREMIUM TIMES learnt early Wednesday morning.

The FPSO on board vessel Tamara Tokoni belongs to General Hydrocarbons, an oil servicing firm owned mainly by Mr Obaigbena, who also serves as Chairman and Editor-in-Chief of THISDAY and ARISE Media Group.

The businessman’s oil firm and First Bank are locked in a knotty legal conflict over credit facilities his company took, which the bank claimed missed several repayment deadlines.

First Bank is claiming $225.8 million, which it said is the indebtedness on General Hydrocarbons‘ account with the lender as of 30 September 2024.

The 9 January ruling by Justice E.A. Obile ordered the detention of the crude oil cargo on board FPSO Tamara Tokoni pending the provision of a “satisfactory Guarantee from a first-class Nigerian Bank of $19.7 million plus interest and costs by the said Defendants…”
The order also directed officers of the Nigerian Navy, the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC), the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA), and the Harbour Master of the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) to provide the necessary assistance in implementing the order of arrest of the FPSO Vessel Tamara Tokoni.

The judge also ordered the security officials to take necessary steps, including providing “regular patrols and surveillance around the cargo of crude oil to prevent General Hydrocarbons Limited from dissipation until the Order of this Court has been complied with in respect of the arrest of the FPSO on board Tamara Tokoni.”

The court then adjourned the matter to 9 February 2025 for a continuation of the substantive suit.

In a subsequent letter to the Chief of Naval Staff, the Federal High Court sought the Nigerian Navy’s assistance executing the court order to arrest and detain the crude cargo on board FPSO Tamara Tokoni.

Background: First Bank Vs General Hydrocarbons
First Bank had filed a debt recovery suit against Mr Obaigbena and his family members, including Efe Damilola Obaigbena and Olabisi Eka Obaigbena, saying they used their oil company General Hydrocarbons Limited to amass millions of dollars in debt.

The bank secured an order from the Federal High Court, Ikoyi, Lagos, blocking the accounts and assets of Mr Obaigbena, his company and those of his two daughters holding directorship roles on the board of General Hydrocarbons in all commercial banks in Nigeria.

General Hydrocarbons issued a statement through Abiodun Layonu & Co, its solicitors, describing the order obtained by First Bank as an “abuse of court process.”

The lawyers called attention to a previous order granted by Justice A. Lewis-Allagoa of the same court on 12 December 2024, prohibiting First Bank from hindering General Hydrocarbons from accessing loan facilities or funding required for the exploration and operation of oil and mining lease (OML) 120

Both parties had entered into a loan agreement requiring the lender to finance the running of OML 120, with the understanding that they would share any profit from the investment equally.

General Hydrocarbons alleged that First Bank had breached some of the facility’s terms, including not disbursing the credit on time.

According to a document seen by PREMIUM TIMES, General Hydrocarbons also obtained an injunction from the judge, restraining First Bank from hindering the company from “making any calls or demands, or taking any steps whatsoever to enforce any security, receivables, instrument, finance documents or assets of the applicant which have been charged as security for the facility agreements in respect of the applicant’s operation of OML 120.”

In their statement, General Hydrocarbons remarked that First Bank has persisted in ignoring and disobeying a persisting court judgement and has chosen to mislead the public.

But First Bank denied breaching any court order, saying the assets freezing order it obtained did not violate the court’s earlier ruling in favour of General Hydrocarbons.

The oil and gas industry is a very capital-intensive sector denominated in USD. Therefore, any company going into that sector MUST be well grounded and have technically-minded and financially savvy promoters. Some of the Nigerian folks who floated companies to explore the deep offshore oil blocks back in the early 1990s lost a lot due to the fact that they didn't strike crude oil and gas in commercial quantities based off of the technologies available as of that period before 3-D imaging kicked in.

To even hire oil rigs per day costs millions of USD. So, it's NOT a piece of cake. But when you strike that crude oil in commercial quantities, then you're good to go and you and your technical partners can easily repay all the loans you've incurred.

This action further confirms the likely authenticity of this letter https://www.nairaland.com/8315301/response-obaigbenas-smear-campaign-femi credited to Mr Femi Ote$, Chairman of First Bank
With the fairly high oil prices over the last few years, the debt of 225.8 million USD (close to half a billion USD) shouldn't be too much to pay back through a proper restructuring of the debt.

Two prominent business aviation firms, Flybird Aircraft Management Services Limited and Falcon Aero Canada Inc., have announced the formation of OrientJets, a new international business aviation company headquartered in Aruba.

The partnership recently marked a significant milestone, with OrientJets officially securing its business license in Aruba. The venture’s first aircraft, a Gulfstream G550 registered as P4-ADTW, was recently spotted in Abuja, Nigeria, signaling the start of its operations.

“Business aviation transcends barriers. It’s more than just a luxury—it’s a critical tool for gaining a competitive edge through efficiency in transportation and logistics,” said Chukwuerika Achum, CEO of Falcon Aero. “With our commitment to expanding access and inclusion in business aviation, OrientJets represents the synergy between our Canadian subsidiary and Flybird, one of the leading names in the industry.”

Both partners in this joint venture are well-regarded pioneers in the business aviation sector. As a licensed Air Operator by the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (CAA), Flybird has earned a stellar reputation for its unwavering dedication to excellence. Borodo added, “As a Nigerian company operating globally, we are proud of the progress we’ve made. Our focus is on continuing to grow internationally, with plans to acquire more aircraft and extend our services to key markets in North America, Europe, and Asia. A GIV-SP and Challenger 604 are expected to join the fleet before the end of Q1 2025.”

Anambra state has always been like this, just that social media came out.

Nnamdi Kanu can't stop insecurity, the criminals have always been there.
I'm just smiling, do you know the type of armed robbers they have, Bakassi boys came and they ran away, they are back.

Even if they release him, it will not stop.
He is not the one that sent them, the criminals joined Ipob as igbo youth, Ipob did not know them very, they thought they were ordinary igbo youths, they never knew they were criminals.

Onitsha has been a den for armed robbers.

They had different notorious criminals, Derico, Eddy Unogu, etc
You're one of two people on this thread of Igbo descent that have spoken well here. The others who are younger like the one you quoted are deflecting OR do NOT have a recollection of the past like you accurately stated here. Anambra and Abia States (The brutal Osisikankwu's kidnapping and armed robbery gang in Aba, who also extended his notoriety to Rivers State) most especially have always been hot beds of vicious kidnappers, armed robberies and ritualists right from the late 1990s and escalating in the 2000s, so, this didn't start now. I remember in 1999, a young lady I knew in PH said her family had postponed their visit to her Anambra village for the holidays because armed robbers visited there to rob, kill and raped a lot of women.

That notorious armed robber and vicious kidnapper called Chukwudume Onwuamadike (nicknamed Evans) who hails from Anambra State was notorious in the South East, before relocating to Lagos State where he continued his crimes of kidnapping within Lagos State and outside while pretending to be a genuinely rich man living in the elite Magodo Estate where a lot of wealthy folks from the South West live including current and former top-ranking members of the Lagos State government.

It took the Bakassi boys to effect some measure of security but that too had to be disbanded because of the abuses that they committed when it was discovered that some of the Bakassi boys had been detaining people who had NO direct connections with crimes that were committed by others. For instance, the girlfriend of one of the alleged armed robbers was detained in the Bakassi boy's underground detention facility and she got impregnated right in detention. So, the government had to scrap it. This was widely reported in the media back them.

ONLY the return of the death penalty in Nigeria would curb these cases of kidnappings, rapes, drug trafficking and other capital offenses. I remember when General Muhammadu Buhari's military government executed 3 drug traffickers, the rest quickly disappeared and the cases of drug trafficking via the airport dussapeared.

A balanced diet "ISN'T a big scam." It simply refers to having the "right type and amounts of nutrient combinations in your diet." The right daily dietary quantities of carbs, proteins, vitamins and minerals MUST be present to make up a balanced diet. This is why the negative effects of malnutrition or kwashiokor set in if you don't eat balanced diets. If you eat only one food type without mixing it with other food types, malnutrition kicks in big time!

However, you're right about protein intake (EXCESSIVE in this case) being a major cause of kidney failure. Excessive intake of RED meat is also a major cause of COLON CANCER because it takes up to 4 days to digest. This is one of the major reasons that I cut red meat from my diet and focused on white meat sources.

Hello Nairalanders,

I need your help! I’m a mum preparing lunch boxes for my kids, and I’m looking for creative, healthy, and age-appropriate snack ideas. My daughter is 3 years old and in Nursery 1, while my son is 1 year old and in crèche.

I want snacks that are:

Easy to prepare
Healthy and nutritious
Appealing to kids
Mess-free (since they’re for school)
Please share your tried-and-true snack ideas or anything your kids love. Suggestions for both homemade and store-bought snacks are welcome.

Thanks in advance for your recommendations!

Looking forward to your ideas.
Insightful.

Even though recommendations on NL aren't bad, I'd suggest you head on over to YouTube and you'll get a lot more visually stimulating lunch box and creative school snack ideas you can use right away.

Ciao.
