Eduadolero: Insightful. You have a good knowledge of history
@Eduadolero
Thank you.
I was updating (with more specifics) my original post on page 1 which you quoted here and suddenly realized that this thread has made it to the main NL frontpage. You may wish to read my original post again since you seem to have an interest in the sequence of events in "world history" just like me.
Centuries-old mystery of Christopher Columbus’ true origins revealed in study Story by Reuters. Published 7:21 AM EDT, Sun October 13, 2024 — The 15th-century explorer Christopher Columbus was a Sephardic Jew from Western Europe, Spanish scientists said on Saturday, after using DNA analysis to tackle a centuries-old mystery.
Several countries have argued over the origins and the final burial place of the divisive figure who led Spanish-funded expeditions from the 1490s onward, opening the way for the European conquest of the Americas.
In recent years there has been pushback to Columbus Day celebrations, which take place on 12 October, marking his arrival in the Americas.
Nick Tilsen, president of the NDN Collective, an indigenous-led advocacy group, has said for the US to "celebrate that history is absolutely disrespectful".
"Columbus was a lost explorer who stumbled into this part of the world and brought famine, colonisation, the deaths of millions of indigenous peoples," he added.
Botragelad: Famed explorer Christopher Columbus was likely Spanish and Jewish, according to a new genetic study conducted by Spanish scientists that aimed to shed light on a centuries-old mystery.
Scientists believe the explorer, whose expedition across the Atlantic in 1492 changed the course of world history, was probably born in western Europe, possibly in the city of Valencia.
They think he concealed his Jewish identity, or converted to Catholicism, to escape religious persecution.
The study of DNA contradicts the traditional theory, which many historians had questioned, that the explorer was an Italian from Genoa.
Columbus led an expedition backed by Spain's Catholic Monarchs seeking to establish a new route to Asia - but instead he reached the Caribbean.
His arrival there was the beginning of a period of European contact with the Americas, which would lead to conquest and settlement - and the deaths of many millions of indigenous people to diseases and war.
Countries have argued for years over the explorer's origin, with many claiming him as one of their own.
There have been an estimated 25 conflicting theories of his birthplace, including Poland, Great Britain, Greece, Portugal, Hungary and Scandinavia.
These new findings are based on more than two decades of research.
The study began in 2003, when José Antonio Lorente, professor of forensic medicine at Granada University, and the historian Marcial Castro, exhumed what were believed to be the remains of Columbus from Seville Cathedral.
Columbus died in the Spanish city of Vallodalid in 1506 but wished to be buried on the Caribbean island of Hispaniola. His remains were taken there in 1542 but centuries later were transferred to Cuba before being finally laid to rest in Seville.
The researchers also took DNA samples from the tomb, and from the bones of Columbus' son, Hernando, and brother, Diego
Since then scientists have compared that genetic information with that of historical figures and the explorer's relatives in order to try and solve the mystery.
The previously widely accepted theory was that Columbus was born in Genoa in 1451, to a family of wool weavers.
But they now believe he lived in Spain - likely in Valencia - and was Jewish. They think he hid his background to avoid persecution.
Around 300,000 practicing Jews lived in Spain, before they along with Muslims were ordered to either convert to Catholicism or leave the country in 1492, the year Columbus landed in the Americas.
Announcing the study's results on the television documentary Columbus DNA: His True Origin, Professor Lorente said they were "almost absolutely reliable".
The programme - which aired on Spain's national broadcaster RTVE on Saturday night - coincided with Spain's National Day.
The day celebrates the explorer's arrival in the Americas.
I'm NOT deeply surprised. No doubt, Cristofero Colombo (Columbus) was a "secret Sephardic Jew" from evidence I have read for years now which have now been further confirmed by extensive ancestry DNA tests.
Reading extensively about the trans-Atlantic expeditions to the so-called New World or the Americas from August 3, 1492 to October 12, 1492 of Cristofero Colombo (Christopher Columbus) and the three ships and crew in more advanced history books and archival sources many decades back, he had up to four well-documented Jewish ship crew members on board his expeditions.
As of 1492 (the same year Columbus sailed out with his crew), a combined military force of Spanish forces led by Queen Isabella I of Castile in the West of Spain and her husband, King Ferdinand II of Aragon in the East of Spain unleashed a crushing blow and finally kicked out or expelled from Granada (the last Muslim stronghold in Southern Spain) the Muslim Moors of Berber and Arab descent who had infiltrated Spain up to the borders of modern France through waves of armed conquest via North Africa (close to 800 years before the 1492 expulsions. For close to 800 years, Spain was under Muslim Moorish control and was known in Arabic as Al-Andalus.
Any how, the Ashkenazi Jews and Sephardic Jews also found a way of working with the Muslim Moors of Spain in the areas of trading, translation, knowledge, and more. As of the time of the expulsion of the Muslim Moors, the Jews also suffered the same fate in the hands of the indigenous Spanish who viewed them with suspicion and EXPELLED many Jews and some fled to North Africa, others went to Holland and others went to Istanbul in the Ottoman Empire (modern Turkey), some Jews who also quickly converted to the Roman Catholic religion (they were known as the Marranos) were allowed to stay in Spain.
This Columbus DNA study simply shows how the Jews pretty much moved around Europe, North Africa, Asia, etc, and surreptitiously mixed up with other European, Caucasus region, and Asian ethnicities in terms of ancestry over the centuries. I would further reckon that it's his paternal and maternal lines that are Jewish based off of information that's been around for over 100 years but from the 1930s, some researchers had suspected that he wasn't Italian since he spoke and wrote better Spanish than Italian. There are Berbers of North Africa today who from their ancestry DNA test results have small percentages (10 percent or less) of Iberian Peninsula (Spain and Portugal region) ancestries in them due to the mixing of male Berbers and Arabs with the conquered indigenous Spanish women after they invaded Spain. The Fulanis of Guinea and elsewhere in West Africa (who's ancestry DNA test results I have extensively studied) have North African Berber paternal ancestry too and they also show some percentage traces of this Iberian Peninsula (Spain and Portugal) DNA markers or ancestry. This accurately fits into the historical oral and written traditions of Fulahs (Fulanis) who say that they are of North African Berber origins. The Touaregs (who are called Buzu in Nigeria) of Niger Republic and Mali are also of direct Berber origins. The maternal lineage of Fulanis though is MAJORLY West African from mainly the Senegal and Mauritania region from where they migrated out to other areas as partly religious Tijaniya clerics and nomadic hordes to populate parts of West Africa.
In rounding off, there are indeed many folks who are Jewish paternally and maternally in the United States, Canada, South America, the Caribbean countries, the United Kingdom and other parts of Europe and Asia but NOT many people realize it on time because Jews have a "notorious" habit for centuries now of changing their family names to that of other popular ethnic groups when they migrated in the past to new countries while dropping traces of their old names, (so, as to blend and/or avoid facing shame and discrimination). The well-known American Dem politician, John Kerry was originally thought to be of Irish immigrant descent by many but when he gained more prominence politically, the TRUTH about his family's Jewish immigrant roots from Hungary came to the fore from immigration and ancestral records.
coputa: Operatives of the Imo State Police Command have arrested a suspected kidnapper and organ harvester in the Douglas area of Imo State.
The suspect, identified as Justine Emmanuel, a 38-year-old man from Amimo in Ikeduru Local Government Area, was apprehended during a rescue operation.
The police also rescued a 19-year-old lady, whose identity has been withheld for privacy reasons.

The operatives noticed the suspects forcefully attempting to take the young lady to an undisclosed location, where they allegedly planned to kill her and harvest her organs.
“During the chase, the victim courageously jumped from the moving bus and was rescued by our operatives.
“The police gave chase, prompting the suspects to abandon the vehicle. While one suspect was arrested, others fled into the nearby bush,” Okoye said.
The command has launched further investigations to track down the remaining members of the syndicate and uncover the full extent of their criminal activities.
Okoye reiterated the command’s commitment to tackling violent crime and ensuring the community’s safety.
He urged the public to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious activities to the authorities.
CommonSense1967: Instead of relying in rumors and innuendos, you can simply post here the charged, place and dates of charges against Tinubu.
Tinubu was never charged with any criminal offense, he was charged with civil forfiture case.
Go and read before posting rubbish trash.
If you have evidence of his criminal charges, post it here for everyone to read.
You can go to the DOJ website and copy the charges against Tinubu and post here. Thr problem is that you will not find one because it never existed. It only exists in the shallow empty skull of the IPOB retards that wish very bad To be true.
Tinubu has NO criminal conviction in the US, prove me wrong.
Well said. You spoke exactly my thoughts here on this issue.
As far back as 2001, the legal Department of the United States Embassy in Lagos in an official press release that was published in the media CLEARLY stated that the then Gov. Bola Tinubu had NO criminal case in the United States, and yet as of the last President election cycle in Nigeria from 2022 till 2023, right till now, these creeps keep recycling the same falsehoods and urban legends that have long been officially debunked by the United States. There's NOT one single criminal case against Bola Tinubu even on the United States Department of Justice website!
One of the other semi-literates who posted on this thread also claimed he has registered LLCs (businesses) in the U.S. (which I know is he's telling lies about) blatantly stated that President Tinubu, Femi Gbaja, and Dapo Abiodun CANNOT travel to the United States of America since they were convicted. This is FALSE! The same gang of ethnic bigots have for more than 10 years now also falsely refer to Tinubu as a "drug lord" (even before Reno Omokri stated his own claims for campaign purposes which he knows to be false) despite the fact that he was found innocent by the court and 1.4 million USD was returned to Bola Tinubu's U.S. bank accounts by the U.S. government in 1993. Bola Tinubu ONLY forfeited 400,000 USD in 1993 based on the backlog of unpaid taxes he incurred after his return from the U.S. (where he has been a permanent resident) to Nigeria and his subsequent employment with the American multinational oil and gas company Mobil Nigeria (now ExxonMobil). Ethnic bigots like these online posters have to be taken down fast and brought to justice for making misleading posts and relentless online criminal defamation of character. It offends the sensibilities of many sane folks when these creeps relentlessly tell these fabricated lies again and again as part of organized propaganda and it's time for Tinubu and others who are similarly being criminally defamed daily to work on bringing these idiots to justice.
The now President Bola Tinubu has been traveling every year to the United States in his private jet long before he became the President of Nigeria and even harbored a lot of the exiled pro-democracy activists with the active support of the United States government in his Chicago area mansion due to the aftermath of the annulment of the June 12, 1993 elections by the HIGHLY corrupt and notorious military dictatorship of the 1990s, so, these youngsters who post online are spinning FABLES (got from those crappy secessionist propaganda blogs, and social media sites) out of their degenerate imaginations.
LaRosa01: this is why humility is good,I can remember when the whites wanted to take this guy out of business the first time,I was one of those who meet with musa then in Canada shortly before he was appointed in Nigeria then I meet with the then aviation minister ,i urged them to assist this guy because he was all nigeria had when it came to the international leg, they refused in the beginning because of tribal politics but musa said when he gets to know Nigeria he would speak with him and decide from there.he kept his word and they became friends,it was the northern cabal that defended oyema with there western connections.as soon as the rope was off oyema neck he began his display of arrogance, insulting everybody that helped him even calling a revered Northern emir his boy.in my mind i said his fall was eminent, those who helped him called me and said look at who you where beging for,I told them I didn't know him that much but what ever they decided as pay back let him have it,they made a request of me,I granted it on the spot hence why he sees hell in my region after spending money like a mad man, since he thinks money is his god.now the west is back for him,I wonder who will save him now, that money you are making noise will soon be gone.in this life as I grow I have learnt, just be humble and you will be fine.
chopnaira: Allen Onyema, the Chairman, CEO, and founder of Air Peace, a Nigerian airline, has been charged in a superseding indictment with obstruction of justice.
Updated October 11, 2024 ATLANTA – Allen Onyema, the Chairman, CEO, and founder of Air Peace, a Nigerian airline, has been charged in a superseding indictment with obstruction of justice for submitting false documents to the government in an effort to end an investigation of him that resulted in earlier charges of bank fraud and money laundering. Ejiroghene Eghagha, the airline’s Chief of Administration and Finance, was also charged for participating in the obstruction scheme, as well as in the earlier bank fraud counts.
“After allegedly using his airline company as a cover to commit fraud on the United States’ banking system, Onyema, along with his co-defendant, allegedly committed additional crimes of fraud in a failed attempt to derail the government’s investigation of his conduct,” said U.S. Attorney Ryan K. Buchanan. “The diligence of our federal investigative partners revealed the defendants’ alleged obstruction scheme, making it possible for the defendants to be held accountable for their aggravated conduct of attempting to impede a federal investigation.”
“These cases represent the continued commitment of the Drug Enforcement Administration to identify and hold accountable those who engaged in fraud and money laundering,” said Robert J. Murphy, Special Agent in Charge of the DEA Atlanta Division.
“Allegedly, Onyema and his accomplices fraudulently used the U.S. banking system in an effort to hide the source of their ill-gotten money,” said Assistant Special Agent in Charge Lisa Fontanette, Internal Revenue Service - Criminal Investigation Atlanta Field Office. “Today’s superseding indictment is indicative of the dedication IRS-CI special agents and our law enforcement partners have, as part of the Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces, to neutralize threats to the United States from criminal organizations.”
“The charges announced today demonstrate the criticality of diligence and truth in criminal justice proceedings,” said Steven N. Schrank, Acting Special Agent in Charge, Homeland Security Investigations Atlanta that covers Georgia and Alabama. “HSI and our partners are committed to pursuing those who seek to exploit our nation’s financial system and any efforts to cover up illegal activity.”
According to U.S. Attorney Buchanan, the superseding indictment, and other information presented in court: Onyema, a Nigerian citizen and businessman, is the CEO and Chairman of Air Peace, a Nigerian airline founded in 2013. Between 2010 and 2018, Onyema travelled frequently to Atlanta, where he opened several personal and business bank accounts. More than $44.9 million was allegedly transferred into his Atlanta-based accounts from foreign sources.
Beginning in approximately May 2016, Onyema, together with Eghagha, allegedly used a series of export letters of credit to cause banks to transfer more than $20 million into Atlanta-based bank accounts controlled by Onyema. The letters of credit were purportedly to fund the purchase of five separate Boeing 737 passenger planes by Air Peace and were supported by documents such as purchase agreements, bills of sale, and appraisals. The documents purported to show that Air Peace was purchasing the aircraft from Springfield Aviation Company LLC, a business registered in Georgia.
However, the supporting documents were allegedly fake – Springfield Aviation Company LLC was owned by Onyema and managed on his behalf by a person with no connection to the aviation business, and Springfield Aviation never owned the aircraft. The company that allegedly drafted the appraisals did not exist. Eghagha allegedly participated in this scheme as well, directing the Springfield Aviation manager to sign and send false documents to banks and even using the manager’s identity to further the fraud. After Onyema received the money in the United States, he allegedly laundered over $16 million of the proceeds of the fraud by transferring it to other accounts.
In May 2019, upon discovering that he was under investigation in the Northern District of Georgia for bank fraud, Onyema and Eghagha allegedly directed the Springfield Aviation manager to sign a key business contract, but also specifically told her to not date the document. In October 2019, Onyema allegedly caused his attorneys to present that same contract, now falsely dated as being signed on May 5, 2016 (prior to the bank fraud that began in 2016), to the government in an effort to stop the investigation and unfreeze his bank accounts.
Allen Ifechukwu Athan Onyema, 61, of Lagos, Nigeria, and Ejiroghene Eghagha, 42, of Lagos, Nigeria, were indicted on November 19, 2019, on one count of conspiracy to commit bank fraud, three counts of bank fraud, one count of conspiracy to commit credit application fraud, and three counts of credit application fraud. Additionally, Onyema was charged with 27 counts of money laundering, and Eghagha was charged with one count of aggravated identity theft. On October 8, 2024, they were both charged in a superseding indictment alleging an additional count of obstruction of justice and one count of conspiracy to obstruct justice. The case is criminal action number 1:19-CR-464.
Members of the public are reminded that the indictments only contain charges. The defendants are presumed innocent of the charges and it will be the government’s burden to prove the defendants’ guilt beyond a reasonable doubt at trial.
The Drug Enforcement Administration, Internal Revenue Service Criminal Investigation, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Homeland Security Investigations, Federal Aviation Administration, Department of Commerce, and Department of Treasury are investigating this case.
Assistant U.S. Attorneys Garrett L. Bradford and Christopher J. Huber are prosecuting the case.
This effort is part of an Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces (OCDETF) operation. OCDETF identifies, disrupts, and dismantles the highest-level criminal organizations that threaten the United States using a prosecutor-led, intelligence-driven, multi-agency approach. 🇷🇺 Russia is stepping up its involvement with local manufacturers in 🇸🇳 Senegal, underscored by a recent press conference in Moscow with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and his Senegalese counterpart, Aïssata Tall Sall.
A notable development from this collaboration is the opening of a plant by KamAZ, a leader in heavy-duty military land vehicles. This facility will focus on producing both civilian and military heavy-duty vehicles.
“Various Russian investors are contributing to Africa’s development,” remarked Sall. “We will soon see the KamAZ plant established in Senegal,” she added.
KamAZ, is internationally recognized for its capabilities in crafting both military and specialized vehicles, offers an impressive lineup of heavy-duty vehicles tailored for combat and logistical operations. Among its key models are the Typhoon-K armored personnel carriers [KamAZ-63968] and MRAP [Mine-Resistant Ambush Protected] vehicles, designed specifically to endure mine blasts and ambushes.
Additionally, KamAZ manufactures several military truck variants for transporting troops and cargo, like the well-regarded KamAZ-5350 and KamAZ-4310 models, known for their performance in challenging battlefield conditions. These vehicles are not only pivotal to Russia’s military strength but also actively support international missions.
Senegal stands out as a vital export market for KamAZ, with 167 vehicles recently delivered to the country. Among these, the KamAZ-5460 tractors take the spotlight, aimed at streamlining container transport from the bustling port of Dakar.
Back in 2021, an initiative was undertaken to train Senegalese drivers and mechanics, both on-site and at the KamAZ training center in Naberezhnye Chelny, ensuring proficient handling and maintenance of these vehicles.
Local insights suggest that beyond these robust heavy-duty trucks, both civilian and military, Senegal is set to manufacture Russian versions of the MRAPs, utilizing the KamAZ chassis. Over the years, KamAZ has been a significant supplier of MRAPs [Mine-Resistant Ambush Protected vehicles] to numerous African nations. The KamAZ “Typhoon” series, featuring models like the KamAZ-53949, has become indispensable in many military fleets across the continent.
With their formidable mine protection and versatile design, they are adept at handling challenging African landscapes. These vehicles are frequently deployed for troop movements, medical evacuations, and even anti-tank operations in regions grappling with insurgencies.
While delivery numbers are somewhat fluid, it’s estimated that hundreds of Typhoon MRAPs have found their way into African territories as part of Russia’s expanding defense collaborations. Nations such as Algeria, Sudan, and Egypt have become key recipients, notably of the KamAZ-63968 model, renowned for its exceptional defense against IEDs and mines.
The forthcoming establishment of a KamAZ plant in Senegal in 2024 is anticipated to boost these numbers, highlighting Russia’s growing military footprint and the escalating demand for such vehicles across Africa.
The launch of a new KamAZ production facility in Senegal is poised to significantly enhance the local economy by creating job opportunities and fostering industrial growth. This factory is set to generate employment for local residents, not only in manufacturing but also in support roles like logistics and maintenance.
Moreover, the development of infrastructure and the formation of a supply chain network will improve the region’s business climate, potentially drawing more investments into the heavy industry sector. This facility will play a crucial role in advancing Senegal’s manufacturing landscape, providing local workers with training and the chance to develop new technical skills.
On a broader scale, the KamAZ plant will fortify economic relationships between Russia and African nations, positioning Senegal as a significant hub for the regional production of military and specialized vehicles.
This can potentially lead to an increase in Senegal’s exports and trade, particularly with other African markets that require such transportation solutions. Additionally, the local production of MRAP vehicles will enhance the country’s independence in the defense and security sectors, lessening reliance on imports for these essential items.
dre11: Dangote is currently seeking a floating production, storage and offloading vessel with a capacity of 650,000 barrels of crude.
By Channels Television.
Dangote Group is looking to start production at its two Nigerian oil assets in the fourth quarter of 2024, after enduring months of crude supply woes, a report by S&P Global Commodity Insights has said.
The report quoting company sources said Dangote is currently seeking a floating production, storage and offloading vessel with a capacity of 650,000 barrels of crude.
The company holds an 85% stake in West African E&P Venture, which in turn has a 45% working interest in the two blocks, alongside the state-owned Nigerian National Petroleum Company’s 55%.
The other stakeholder in West African E&P is Nigerian upstream player First E&P, which operates OMLs 71 and 72.
The licenses are located in the shallow water in the southeast of the troubled Niger Delta, just 22 km from the onshore Bonny terminal. They contain the Kalaekule and Koronama oilfields.
Discoveries were first made on the blocks in 1966, and Shell began production there two decades later. Output peaked at 21,000 b/d in 1999, before declining in 2003.
However, according to data from Commodity Insights, the fields still hold recoverable resources of almost 300 million barrels of oil and as much as 2.3 Tcf of natural gas.
Commodity Insights forecasts that production at the blocks could start in 2026, reaching 43,000 boe/d by 2036.
Supply woes
Dangote’s upstream activities are seldom discussed, but the imminent startup of production at OMLs 71 and 72 suggests the Dangote refinery could soon supplement its crude feedstock, after having faced months of crude supply issues.
The $20 billion facility came online in January, and started up its residue catalytic cracker in early September, allowing for high-volume gasoline production when the unit stabilises by as early as October, according to a company executive.
The refinery was designed to end Nigeria’s decades-long dependence on imported refined products. To date, it has produced volumes of petrol, diesel, jet fuel and naphtha, for domestic use and export.
However, the plant struggled to obtain sufficient Nigerian crude in its early months, forcing it to import large volumes of WTI Midland crude from the US, and sparking a bitter public row between the NNPC, international oil companies, Dangote and Nigeria’s upstream regulators.
The NNPCL, which was originally expected to supply Dangote with 300,000 b/d of crude in return for a 20% stake in the project, ultimately saw its stake reduced to 7.2%.
Data from S&P Global Commodities at Sea shows Dangote took just under 200,000 b/d of Nigerian crude in September. It has not imported any US crude since mid-July, CAS data shows.
Speaker of the House of Reps, Tajudeen Abbas, President of Dangote Group, Aliko Dangote and others visit the Dangote Petroleum Refinery in Lagos.
Nevertheless, Dangote has floated the possibility of acquiring crude from other oil producers, including Libya, Senegal and even Brazil, with company sources warning that NNPC could only be able to fulfil 60% of its crude demand.
seunowa: The Minister of Petroleum Resources (Oil), Heineken Lokpobiri, has announced that the FPSO facility in Lagos, a joint venture between NNPC Limited and Century Nigeria Limited, is nearing completion and will soon contribute an additional 40,000 barrels per day to Nigeria’s crude oil production.
Lokpobiri made this statement during an inspection visit to the site on Saturday.
The Floating Production Storage and Offloading (FPSO) facility in Lagos is also in partnership with WAEP and ENSERV.
According to Lokpobiri’s statement, the facility is a prime example of how partnerships can strengthen both local expertise and national output, aligning seamlessly with our objective of substantially increasing oil production beyond the current quota, as directed by President Bola Tinubu.
“Supporting local capabilities is essential to driving the increase in our crude oil production. This was my position while inspecting the FPSO facility in Lagos, a joint venture between NNPC Limited and Century Nigeria Limited, in partnership with WAEP and ENSERV.
“I was pleased to see the remarkable progress on the project, which will soon add 40,000 barrels per day to our national crude production.
“This facility is a clear example of how partnerships can enhance both local expertise and national output, aligning perfectly with our goal of significantly increasing oil production beyond current quota as directed by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu,” Lokpobiri said.
In addition, Lokpobiri disclosed that Ken Edward Etete, Group Chairman of Century Group, has confirmed that the ongoing upgrades at the facility are progressing as planned, with full completion expected by the first quarter of next year.
“Interestingly, Mr. Ken Edward Etete, the Group Chairman of Century Group, has assured that the various upgrades underway at the facility are on track, with full completion expected by the first quarter of next year.
“This project demonstrates the kind of commitment and collaboration needed to strengthen our energy sector, and we remain supportive of similar efforts to further enhance our production capacity,” Lokpobiri added.
Despite contributing only a small share to Nigeria’s GDP, the oil sector remains a crucial source of foreign exchange and government revenue.
Its significance extends beyond economic statistics, as it finances key government functions. Fluctuations in crude oil production have a major impact on the country’s fiscal stability.
Increased production enhances revenue, bolstering critical sectors such as infrastructure, education, and healthcare.
Racoon: Choosing a college major is an important step for students aiming to build a successful career. While wealth and success can be achieved in any field with effort and innovation, certain majors are more commonly linked to producing millionaires. Though a major doesn’t set one’s future in stone, it can influence post-college earning potential.
Many prominent business figures, such as Mark Cuban and Warren Buffett, studied business and later attended top business schools. However, tech leaders like Mark Zuckerberg and Bill Gates did not complete college, though this is not typical. Here’s a look at some of the undergraduate majors most often associated with millionaires, as highlighted by Edvoy.
Engineering Engineering leads the list of degrees that generate the most millionaires. This field offers a broad range of opportunities across various industries, contributing to its appeal. Engineers often take on roles that play a significant part in shaping industries, and many prominent figures in business hold engineering degrees.
Carlos Slim, a Mexican entrepreneur worth approximately $73.3 billion, holds a degree in Civil Engineering. Larry Page, co-founder of Google, earned a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering and a Master’s in Computer Science, and his net worth currently stands at $125 billion. Jeff Bezos, founder of Amazon, studied Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at Princeton University and is valued at over $200 billion.
A 2014 study showed that 56% of engineers believe they will eventually become millionaires, and 69% view their profession as “recession-proof.” This combination of job security and financial potential places engineering at the top of the list.
Economics/Finance Economics and finance degrees also feature prominently among millionaire-producing programs. Understanding how financial systems operate offers graduates an advantage in various sectors. While these degrees are often seen as theoretical, they provide foundational knowledge that is applicable in real-world business and finance settings.
Careers in finance, such as investment banking and wealth management, are common pathways for graduates of these disciplines. The financial world’s inner workings are critical for anyone looking to navigate it successfully, making these degrees highly valuable.
odigbosky: You're one of the few Edo figures I respect here on Nairaland. Been on this platform for over 10 years. I made a post only to share my thoughts. My field in life is in the sciences.
I always believe that no one side has the complete history of the other side. I don't believe the Benins know everything even about people in Etsako land.
Just recently I watched a video on ITV's page on YouTube when the Esogban of Benin was talking about salutations in Benin for different families.
He said his family greets La'uhe in relation to them coming from Uhe (Ile Ife).
He said every Iyase of Benin once installed greets Lavbieze...He said the Eze is in relation to Eze Chima. He said Chima was once an Iyasere and he was not from Benin but present day Delta state...
He also said the Ezomo greets Lagiesan because of ties to Esan land.
So I will love you to talk about the greetings of the Iyasere and also the Oriki attached to it.
As for S.a.m.u.k who questions my Edo blood. I am Edo, proud one for that matter.
Nobody here knows everything or every historical piece. We are all learning. What I shared here was my own thoughts. Nothing else.
samuk: Who are we that you are referring to, Biafra? Since when did losers of war become magnanimous? The dream of Biafra was on a life support when you lost the civil war and was finally killed when the south South was created.
I understand your quest for land because just Edo and Delta (two state out of six south south states) are bigger in landmass than the entire five Eastern states. I repeat Edo and Delta are bigger than the entire south east in landmass.
Win or lose Obi can't resurrect Biafra, the northern political and military structure of over 50 years can't be dismantled in 4 years of Obi even if he wins and it's a big if even though I agree that he will probably win more votes in Benin city than his Anambra due to the ditribalised nature of Benin.
Biafra cannot be achieved by military means either, that was tried before and failed spectacularly and that was without south south as an entity/region. South East of 1967 that fought the civil war was far bigger than the south east of today. A good proportion of the Nigeria army of 1967 were pro Biafrans, it is not the same today. You can only romance the idea of Biafra in your head, that dream is long gone, dead and buried.
Forget the no victor no vanquish statement by general Gowon, there was a Victor and a vanquish, Biafra lost far more people, territories and mineral resources that never be regained. Your military and political structure pre civil war was also lost.
Guy/s wake up and smell the coffee, Biafra is long gone. Even if Nigeria decides to restructure, no south south state will agree to be part of south east. I don't see people like wike, okowa, etc surrendering their sovereignty to south east. Wike already see most south east governors as his boys and they follow him around like their master.
samuk: I can assure you that you cannot find any book written before 1875 to support what you believe, besides it's not about what you believe, but what can be proven, we all are at liberty to believe whatever we choose to believe, the problem is the ability to support our believes with prove.
The point is, there may be books written after 1875 by Igbo that claim Asaba as Igboid but this was not the case during Oba Ewuare. The Asabans claimed in 1875 that they migrated from Benin.
samuk: It's almost impossible for you to use your present day observations to explain events of 300 years ago let alone 500 years ago. The world was a complete different place then. Your writeup is ridden with you think, you think....you will probably also think that the present king of England is of English ancestry because he speaks English and he is the king of England. The world doesn't or didn't work like that.
You need to read more and do more research if you really want to learn instead of formulating your own theories using limited knowledge from your today's observations.
In 1875 for example, Samuel Ajayi Crowder visited Asaba and documented that there were large Igbo migrating to Asaba and the indigene were fast loosing their Edo language, although few Edo words were still being used. This is 1875 and you are trying to think and formulate theories about what happened during the reign of Oba Ewuare more than 500 years ago. During the reign of Oba Ewuare, that entire area and beyond were mostly populated by Edo people before they were overwhelmed by other migrants.
The above reference is a eye witness historical account of someone that was on ground in Asaba in 1875 and wrote what he saw, not what he thought. Although you will read Igbo writers that wrote in the 1900s claiming Asaba as original Igbo town.
There are people that still claim Benin ancestry all over the South South to the middle belt, in comparison, Delta North was just another Benin empire towns and villages. The king we now know as Obi of Obolukwu was known in Benin as Ogie Oboro, if the title Obi existed then, Benin would have known and call him Obi Oboro. Perhaps you should ask yourself why the current king of Agbor changed his title from Obi of Agbor to Dein of Agbor and what was the title during Oba Ewuare, 500 years ago.
RedboneSmith: We need to correct this impression that the SS Igbo-speaking peoples were the only ones who referred to Igbo-speaking outsiders as 'onye Igbo'. Igbo-speaking people were doing that to other Igbo-speaking people inside the SE at the time. There is a town called Igbere in Abia State, and the name of the town is derived from the expression "Igbo erughi", meaning "the town the Igbo could not reach". And the Igbo in this instance were the Aro. The Aro and their Abam warriors had planned to invade Igbere (which was called Ebiri at the time). Igbere people were able to beat off the attack and prevent the Aro and Abam from taking their town. In memory of that triumph, they started calling themselves Igbo erughi (the Igbo couldn't reach us), shortened later to Igbere.
Also I will continue to take Equiano's reference to Benin in his book with a pinch of salt. If Equiano was writing from what he experienced within his homeland, I would expect him to refer to Benin by the name used among his people, which would be Idu or Ado. Benin people themselves did not even use Benin to describe themselves at the time, but used Edo. Nobody who was living in the Igbo-speaking areas in 1745 would have known Benin City by any other name except Idu or Ado. The fact that Equiano recorded "Benin" tells me he had been peeping into European accounts.
Then he went and wrote further that Benin was bordered on one side by the Kingdom of Abyssinia! Not only is that factually wrong, but no one in the rainforests of West Africa at the time knew about the existence of Abyssinia on the northeastern extremity of the African continent, least of all 12-year old Olaudah!
Olaudah presenting his village as belonging to a province of the great Benin Kingdom is a piece of romantic writing designed to capture the interest and imagination of his European audience. It shouldn't be taking seriously by anyone trying to use information presented in the book to pinpoint where in Igboland Olaudah came from.
IgbuduMonkey: you are spinning things to fit a narrative. Why would Olaudah have to be taken to the Igbo hinterland to get to the coast. What happened to the Niger River trade route? My understanding is that slaves around that axis were taken to the coast through Aboh to the Ijaw areas and from thenceforth to the coast. And Yes, there are many places around the Aboh axis with similar dialects
He was surely talking about Benin Kingdom because he mentioned the strength of it's King, not Kings. Which King of the Benin Kingdom did Olaudah refer to
Eboe is what most Aboh neighbours call them to this day. It is the reason the people of Eboe-Orogun are called that because they migrated from Aboh to their present location. The evidences are so strong to ignore. What has happened is that some historians for unknown motives have turned Eboe to Igbo. For example, when Olaudah mentioned that Eboe slaves are preferred in the West Indies, he must have meant slaves who were sent to the Coast through Aboh. The people in the hinterland did not trade slaves directly with the Europeans at the coast. The slaves brought along the Niger were sold at Aboh/Eboe and from Aboh the slaves were moved to the Coast and resold there. This trade system is referred to historically as the entrepot trade system. All the slaves that were traded along the Niger would therefore be referred to as Eboe slaves as they were all bought from Aboh by the Europeans. But the narrative today is that the Eboe slaves referred to Igbo slaves, simply not true. Those referred to as Eboe slaves are likely of different ethnicity but were bought from Aboh. And some of these people likely spent some time in Aboh before they were sold
Lastly, I have tried to support my assertions with historical evidences from around that time so it's unfair to say that I am using the geography and realities of present times to interpret Equaino
Of these the most considerable is the kingdom of Benen, both as to extent and wealth, the richness and cultivation of the soil, the power of its king.....This kingdom is divided into many provinces or districts: in one of the most remote and fertile of which, called Eboe, I was born, in the year 1745, in a charming fruitful vale, named Essaka
There is no doubt the kingdom Equaino is referring to here is the great Kingdom of Benin. This requires no further analysis. What needs explanation is the link between Benin and Aboh/Eboe.
Aboh was founded by Esumei-Uku who is said to be a Bini prince that left Benin with his family and companions around the 15th century. In the migratory movement of the Esumei company, a number of Kingdoms were founded along the way, including for example Ozoro, founded by Oputa-Uku who was probably Esumei's brother. There must therefore have been a contiguous link between the mother kingdom and the chain of kingdoms birthed from her. That the Aboh/Eboe kingdom sprang up from Benin is not up for debate, it's a historical fact. There are many vestiges of Benin to be found in Aboh culture
IgbuduMonkey: If Equaino's Eboe meant Igbos and if the Essaka people were Igbos, they would not refer to other people as Oye-Eboes, which literally means Eboe people.
Also, Equaino wrote that these Eboe men brought firearms, gunpowder, hats, beads and dried fish....they always carried slaves through our land. If you study the history of the slave trade along the River Niger, you would understand why the Eboes here are Lander's Eboes, todays Abohs. The Abohs/Eboes controlled the slave trade at the lower Niger. They exchanged slaves for European goods such as firearms, gunpowder, hats etc. The people of Aboh are also good fishermen and til this day trade fish.
Lander wrote:
Eboe Country ,' is situated on an open plain ; it is immensely large, contains a vast population, and is the capital of a kingdom of the same name. It has, for a series of years, been the principal slave -mart for native traders from the coast, between the Bonny and Old Ca.lebar rivers ; and for the produetion of its palm -oil it has obtained equal celebrity. Hundreds of men from the rivers mentioned above come up for the purpose of trade, and numbers of them are at pre sent residing in canoes in front of the town. Most of the oil purchased by Englishmen at the Bonny and adjacent rivers, is brought from hence, as are nearly all the slaves which are annually ex ported from those places by the French , Spaniards, and Portuguese.
