A Federal High Court sitting in Abuja on Friday issued an order to freeze 13 bank accounts linked to a suspected terrorist, Henry Okocha.

Justice Peter Lifu issued the order following an ex-parte application filed before the court by the Department of State Services, represented by its counsel, Yunus Umar.

The ex-parte application, marked FHC/ABJ/CS/1036/2024, was brought under sections 5 and 81 of the Terrorism Prevention and Prohibition Act 2022.

In an 8-paragraph affidavit supporting the ex-parte motion, the DSS informed the court that the defendant had received substantial sums of money, amounting to millions of naira, in the accounts, and these funds were suspected to be proceeds of terrorism.

Umar requested the court to grant an order for the agency to freeze Okocha’s accounts for 90 days to allow for a thorough forensic investigation into his alleged acts of terrorism.

The DSS counsel argued that freezing the accounts would enable the agency to identify the perpetrators and bring them to justice.

The banks where the accounts are domiciled include First Bank of Nigeria, Guaranty Trust Bank, United Bank for Africa, Union Bank of Nigeria, Providus Bank, Palmpay Limited, and Resolut Limited.

In his ruling, Justice Lifu granted the DSS’s request to freeze the bank accounts but reduced the period to 60 days instead of the requested 90 days for the investigation.

He ruled that the accounts, which are domiciled in seven different banks, would remain “frozen for 60 days to enable the applicant to conduct the necessary forensic investigations into the alleged acts of terrorism by the defendant.”

The DSS confirmed that Okocha had been taken into custody following his arrest for investigation.

Aradel Holdings Plc, an indigenous energy company, through its subsidiary, Aradel Energy Limited, has signed a sale and purchase agreement to acquire the 100 per cent interest in the Olo and Olo West marginal fields from TotalEnergies EP Nigeria and the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited.

The Olo and Olo West Fields were formerly part of OML 58.

The acquisition was completed for a consideration of $16m plus $3.5m of deferred and conditional payments.

In a statement on Thursday, Aradel said the Petroleum Mining Lease (for Olo) and Petroleum Prospecting License (for Olo West) will be issued after the payment of relevant ministerial consent fees and completion of approved field development plans within designated timeframes.

“The addition of Olo and Olo West marginal fields to Aradel’s portfolio of assets is a significant inorganic growth milestone in furtherance of Aradel’s vision and long-term strategy to provide sustainable energy solutions that support economic growth,” Aradel’s Chief Executive Officer/Managing Director, Adegbite Falade, said.

Falade said the acquisition of the marginal fields is a major step in our journey of promoting energy security in Nigeria through organic and inorganic growth.

Olo and Olo West Fields are located within former OML 58, in the Eastern Niger Delta, 80 kilometres northwest of Port Harcourt, Rivers State.

A marginal field is any field that has been discovered and has been left unattended for not less than 10 years, from the date of first discovery of such a field.

This does not support the lifestyle claimed by Dino Melaye. Second, we are still to prove that the man's claims are true, to begin with. There is no mention in all of his stories of the year, state, or city he supposedly owned these franchises, or if he still owns them to date.

How many times have you heard someone tell you a story of doing business in the U.S. without at least dropping a year, a state, or even a city? Even the name of the president of the United States during the time would make sense to some. This Dino Melaye story is more likely of fraud.
