omobaba101:@Omobaba101, It's good to know you are safe in Kano State and I'm impressed with your succinctly stated reply here to the other poster. I had earlier posted my takes on that NTA video on this thread after watching it and came to the same conclusion with you because the reporter CLEARLY spoke the truth and vehicles were moving in the background. A lot of simpletons here still didn't believe it (despite the video being relatively short) because of their overt ethnic bigotry and confirmation bias! It's pretty obvious that there are deeply ignorant posters and secessionists on this thread and elsewhere on NL and other online platforms that have geared up for the destruction of Nigeria through the malicious spread of FAKE news and criminally defamatory stories just like we have seen currently in England where fake social media news reports being spread by the far right wing members of the English Defence League have led to a lot of violence, arsons, lootings, and racial tensions only for the UK police to finally reveal that the 17-year-old boy who stabbed other younger children to death was born in the UK of Rwandan parentage and was NOT even a Muslim. As a very Internet-savvy and IT-savvy man, I noticed strong upticks in this trend of "fabricated" news from Nigeria from the second-half of July 2024 in the lead up to the so-called August 1, 2024 protest when a lot of fake news stories that were meant to deliverately malign the image of those named were being relentlessly pushed around by non-state actors online including here on Nairaland for gullible followers. https://www.nairaland.com/8165601/board-directors-one-malta-oil https://www.nairaland.com/8166910/president-tinubu-been-paying-fuel For instance the fake stories in the two Web links directly above this paragraph about Wale Tinubu, his son, and some other people being executive directors and non-executive directors of an oil blending that is used to import diesel from the island of Malta was CLEARLY fake! The names of Wale Tinubu of the publicity quoted company, Oando PLC (who is a blood relative of President Bola Tinubu) and the other so-called directors were mischievously displayed on a projector screen using a projector and the FABRICATED story and screenshots of the names of Wale Tinubu and others were pushed out to go viral on other online platforms and on Nairaland with embarrassingly gullible people who NEVER liked Tinubu right from time being the arrowheads of that fake story being pushed to stir up public discontent and hate against the Tinubu family preparatory to the August 1 protests! It's clear to those of us who are experts in criminal investigations. Aliko Dangote had earlier on July 22, 2024 accused the NNPC officials, and oil traders of owning a new oil blending terminal off the coast of Malta and this story in the link below is what these decayed propagandists "twisted" a FICTIONAL story out of to FALSELY accuse Wale Tinubu of owning a blending terminal in Malta. https://www.nairaland.com/8162311/dangote-some-nnpc-personnel-oil As fate would have it, Oando PLC officially responded through a statement by the company secretary, Ayotola Jagun and promptly did a Malta Business registration search for the name of the company listed as the oil blending plant and it came out blank! NO such company EXISTS in Malta as the so-called Ras Hanzir had already been DELISTED long ago. So, you can see that all these known fake story fabricators have to be QUICKLY dealt with and brought to justice because they are CLEARLY pushing out falsified stories on YouTube channels, X, FB, crappy blogs, and even on NL as of this moment to destabilize Nigeria. Now we have illegally made Russian flags and violence and lootings being further fueled by the push of toxic, fake news online. So, it's very CLEAR where the focus must be. https://punchng.com/oando-denies-malta-blending-plant-ownership-claims/ Oando PLC has denied allegations on social and digital media that it owns a blending plant in Malta. The energy company also denied importing dirty fuel into Nigeria through a Maltese company, Raz Hansir Oil Terminal Limited. Last but not least, I was in Kano on a visit for the last ever in 1995 via Lagos, and have been itching to fly back there on my return to Nigeria because of the remarkable changes I have seen there online in terms of infrastructure. I'm glad you and your folks are OK in Kano based on what you wrote in your post. I believe that the tensed situation will pass despite the challenges from well-known fifth-columnists online and offline. Stay safe my brother. |

SEGLIZ:@Segliz Indeed, it gives me a real blast when I come across OGs and folks like you who still remember the popular sitcoms and iconic movies we used to watch back in the day (from the late 1970s but really blasting off from especially the early 1980s). "Good Times," "Different Strokes," "Sanford and Son," "Knight Rider," etc. The Knight Rider theme song and the husky male voice-over in the intro of Knight Rider was/is legendary. I had to download some of the past movie trailers of Knight Rider episodes and documentaries from YT on my laptops a few years ago just to reconnect with the memorable past. That Knight Rider car called KITT was indeed legendary... A predictor of the self-driving cars we have as of today. It literally gives me goosebumps when I see how far mankind has gone in engineering self-driving vehicles that can "nearly" replicate what we have with the iconic KITT of the Knight Rider series. Big props to you bruv for keeping the memories alive. Enjoy the rest of your day! |

brain54:That's an interesting culinary review. It seems you're fully based in Ghana. |

God1000:I said it earlier today. It's a full-blown military takeover when Al-Jazeera and other major news networks broke the news. Bangladesh has had series of very bad military dictatorships from the past which led to Bangladeshi citizens fleeing abroad (including to Nigeria back in the day) for greener pastures. History seems to repeat itself because younger generation of humans don't learn from the bitter lessons of the past. Democracy remains the best bet for freedom of speech and creative economic development. We'll see how things pan out down the road |
nlfpmod:I just watch the full video. The NTA news report from Aminu Umar in Kano is true and NOT propaganda like some insidious posts on this thread have incorrectly suggested. Just as Aminu Umar rightly stated, the video showing scenes of violence going viral on social media was indeed from the "day one" of the protests but as of today, that part of Kano is very peaceful and as you can see there is a lot of vehicular movements in the background. A lot has to be done globally to tackle the spread of FAKE news on social media and bring the well-known perpetrators to maximum justice as this same thing is what has triggered the recent violence and lootings in the UK due to the spread of FALSEHOODS on social media by the right wing "English Defence League." The 17-year-old boy who stabbed some youngsters to death isn't even a Muslim but is of Rwandan parentage, born in England and there have been official government calls for social media platforms to take responsibility for stopping the spread of FAKE news by their users in the UK. #Kano Kanawan Dabo! |

NwaNimo1:Lol... This "Nekwa" boy. Where did you get that iconic Knight Rider gif? The Knight Rider was a popular movie series we used to watch back in the early to late 1980s. That's a dope gif though. |
HotepKang:I just checked. Ogazi means "guinea fowl" in Ibo language. I had a cool school buddy decades back who had the surname Ogazi. His mum was Yoruba and father was Ibo, but he was fluent in his mother's language. Unfortunately I didn't ask what state his father originally came from and I've not been in contact with him for some years now. |
toluxa1:Succinctly stated. |
Dapromzy333:"Magana ya kare." Even the Russians through the Russian Embassy in Nigeria have already condemned such illegal actions of waving their illegally made national flags by those tools of destabilization. They were indeed being sponsored to locally sew those Russian flags and instigate a conflagration of monumental proportions in the far North of Nigeria using the normal protests as a cover. These guys are cells of a wider group of infiltrators. It's important for the governments at all levels to sit up, block the economic leakages and ask for 2 months grace period to crash the cost of living by 60 percent using the cheaper CNG fuel via the newly created mega NNPC CNG refill stations, so, that fifth columnists hiding among the protesters would lose stream. It's doable.

Kwinity:@Kwinity, "Cut your coat according to your cloth" is the CORRECT English quotation NOT "Cut your cloth according to your size" which is sometimes mistakenly used. I agree with the original point you were trying to make though. |
money121:No kiddin'... ![]()

Originalsly:Succinctly stated. Even Patrice Lumumba of the Congo (now Democratic Republic of Congo) was gotten rid off by the CIA through a sponsored military coup in the 1960s based on declassified documents. His body was then dissolved in acid. The aim was to silence him because he is outspoken and despite being a lover and fierce supporter of the United States because it's an amalgam of folks descended from every continent on earth, the past dark secrets of the CIA in sponsoring coups and assassinating radical politicians and people of interest in many countries of the world especially during the Cold War with the USSR is what sends my B.S. radar up! In any event, just as I stated in my earlier post on this thread, I watched that video and it was obvious that the Turkish President ONLY gave a light tap on the left cheek of that handsome little boy, so, I wonder what the fuss is all about here? There was clearly NO hard slap on the boy's cheek in the video like the headline FALSELY suggested. The bants with all the kids was indeed very lively. |
djon78:You are very correct @djon78. It's been a recurring decimal. That's what some of those politicians do. The Northern borders also have over 1000 porous points that these guys from Mali, Niger Republic, Cameroon and Chad pass through according to the Nigerian Immigration folks. Based on newspaper articles I read here on NL sometime in the 2010s, some of these illegal immigrants from Niger Republic and Cameroon who were rounded up in Lagos State were bragging to the hearing of immigration officers that they would easily find there way back into Nigeria because of the many illegal routes into Nigeria. So, modern technologies would have to be deployed to track those porous areas and people from the North should learn to report strange faces because it's these guys that have caused a lot of insecurities in the North of Nigeria from Maitatsine who was a Cameroonian and others in the BH group. It's very critical to control "illegal" immigration because ultimately, it would backfire on any country on earth. But then, heck, even the United States still battles with illegal immigration through the borders and Trump even vowed to build a border wall which he didn't fulfil till he left. |
caye:Lol... You cracked me up. Indeed I'm an OG. Caye, your father was saying the absolute truth! College of Education in Oyo... That's very interesting. A lot of Indians, Bangladeshis, Pakistani, British, Americans, Ghanaians, Jamaicans, etc, worked as academics in Nigerian Universities or higher institutions and Primary to Secondary schools such as Federal Government Colleges back in the 1970s right up till 1985 (1989 max) and left gradually because of the introduction of the Structural Adjustment Program (SAP) by Gen. Ibrahim Babangida which made the economy to further go south. In 1989, there was even a bloody anti-SAP protest and violence which led to some lootings as well especially in Lagos. Many of these expats from India, Bangladesh, Ghana, Britain, etc, left for Canada, Europe, and the United States for greener pastures because things were NOT going well economically under the military rule in Nigeria in the late 1980s. At the same time, Nigerian professionals (including Uni academics) also followed the path of their Indian, Ghanaian and Bangladeshi colleagues and headed in large numbers for the U.S., Canada, and Europe. Some of the brilliant Indian, Pakistani, Bangladeshi expats also worked as medical doctors, the commodities or export sector, and in various fields of human endeavor because the Nigerian economy was relatively strong and Nigerian folks flew regularly on holidays to and fro via British Caledonian Airways or Nigeria Airways to London from Lagos or via Pan-American Airlines from Lagos to New York. So, yes, we enjoyed an international or cosmopolitan education with the presence of those expats back in the day and I still maintain contact with my Bangladeshi and Ghanaian buddies (being brilliant children of expat academics in a Nigerian University) who now work on Wall Street in New York right till this very moment. |
nlfpmod:This is spot on. I said this same thing on another thread. These people are sponsored and hired to cause chaos and are most likely NOT Nigerian citizens. I remember reading an article during the COVID lockdowns where the former Kano State Governor said MOST of the Almajiris in Kano are immigrant from Niger Republic. Of course the far North of Nigeria and Niger Republic have cultural linkages but that does NOT give them the right to allow unbridled illegal immigrants from Mali and Niger Republic into the Northern states like Kano, Katsina, Jigawa, Sakwato, Kaduna, etc, because it would put humonguous economic and infrastructural pressures on them. |
Spyetv:These boys are definitely being sponsored by dissidents to instigate anarchy. Who is paying for the illegal sowing of the Russian flags? The Russians consider it ABSOLUTELY illegal to sow their country's flag without getting it from the right source just like in the U.S. Since there is a cultural and ancestral linkage between the far North Nigerians and Niger Republic, I'm NOT surprised that these things are taking place and Niger Republic citizens living in Northern Nigeria could also be fuelling this if more investigations are carried out. The Russians through the Russian Embassy in Nigeria have washed their hands off these guys sowing and waving Russian flags all around the place. So, they better smell the coffee and sit things out. The CURRENT NSA is a Northerner, the CURRENT Minister of Defence and Minister of State for Defence are both Northerners, so security in the far North is a prority, and Dangote Refinery will start PMS production in August 2024, so, these guys should persevere a bit because the solutions are right in front of them. CNG which is even than cheaper PMS will also further lower the cost of transportation and foods by over 60 percent with the free 1 million CNG CONVERSION KITS for commercial vehicle currently in progress. The Presidency and the State Governors MUST break these FACTS down for these people so that the situation does NOT escalate into violence that would lead to mass murders, mass gang raping of women and utter destruction of infrastructure that would require unavailable funds to fix. Period. |
blackbriar:@blackbriar, Indeed, it's as good as saying the Army have taken over the governance of Bangladesh. These are the unintended consequences of these kinds of protests by the younger generation [Gen Zs especially] who never experienced brutal and corrupt military rule. You NEVER know where it would end. Bangladesh has been under very brutal military dictatorships in the past that did NOT help that country. In a democracy, you can still protest and call out the politicians on live phone-in programs, but in full-blown military dictatorships, you CANNOT do that. There were many Ghanaians, a few Jamaicans, a few Americans, a few British, Indian, and Bangladeshi expats during the oil boom era right into the early 1980s in Nigeria who were academics in Nigerian Universities and other institutions and I attended school with some of their children back then. My Bangladeshi buddies and their family later moved to Canada from Nigeria during the Ibrahim Babangida years of military rule when the economy started to tank from 1985 and it never recovered. So, military rule can set the freedom of speech and economies of countries back in time. |
blackbriar:@blackbriar, She has indeed resigned and the Bangladeshi military have announced a transition program. Read more below: https://www.aljazeera.com/news/2024/8/5/bangladesh-pm-hasina-quits-and-flees-as-protestors-storm-palace-reports |
OkpaNsukkaisBae:Don't get too exited by that picture... Those are some of the same Bangladeshi military men who gunned down the Bangladeshi protesters. |
fergie001:Hasina, who ruled the country for close to two decades, boarded a military helicopter on Monday, an aide told Al Jazeera, as huge crowds ignored a national curfew to storm her palace in Dhaka. Her resignation came after 300 people died in weeks of protest that the authorities sought to crush. A night of deadly violence on Sunday killed close to 100 and a curfew was called. The streets were patrolled by soldiers on Monday. However, protesters remained defiant and called for a march on Dhaka as crowds swelled in the capital. Huge numbers then stormed the prime minister’s palace, preventing Hasina from delivering a speech. By early afternoon, the mood on the street had turned to one of celebration after the news of the premier’s departure spread. |
spiSeyi:Indeed, I agree with you there. Most of the average Nigerian folks on the street level are largely semi-literates and would respond BETTER to you more when they get to see your practically demonstrate what you have to offer. Some of the uninformed protesters and their leaders in Abuja and Lagos whose videos I saw are saying that Tinubu should bring back fuel subsidy or they will NOT stop the protests but this is circular thinking and highly ridiculous because even Atiku and Peter Obi all said that they would remove fuel subsidy because it wasn't sustainable economically and the fuel subsidy had been DISCONTINUED before Tinubu became the President and this is the reason why fuel subsidy WASN'T captured in the Nigerian 2023 budget. The IMPORTANT thing is to give these Nigerians "bullet points of what you have to offer" from the get-go and this is why I also stated in my first reply to your post that for the first 6 minutes, I was getting really impatient with that speech because the Nigerian President wasn't hitting the nail on the head, BUT he later did by EMPHASIZING on the free 1 million CNG conversion kits for all commercial vehicles and the deployment of the cheaper CNG which would LOWER the cost of food and transportation in the short to medium-term. That's the ONLY way that food prices will ever drop and it requires some patience by all for a period within the next 2 months by my estimation. From the feelers we are getting, it's NOT that there are "food shortages" for all crops, it's just that most Nigerian folks do NOT have disposable income to buy these highly priced foods due to hoarding and market manipulations that have led to artificial hyperinflation in several sectors. Dangote Refinery would definitely start the PMS production this August of 2024 like the management and Aliko Dangote have promised with the cheaper CNG which are also already being deployed and in my estimation, things would normalise in 2 months with prices of goods and services dropping by 60 percent. [These are some of the additional information that I expect the Nigerian President and all the Nigerian Governors to convey to Nigerians]. There is a sense of urgency because when Nigerian protests last longer than 3 days from past history since 1989, they get hijacked by looters. I remember that since the 1989 anti-SAP riots during General Ibrahim Babangida's time which I witnessed, the violence and lootings have persisted in every Nigerian protest which are supposedly meant to be peaceful. The violence and LOOTINGS under the cover of protests in the North started right from the first day with the viral photograph of a criminal in Kano using a machete to destroy a brand new street light built with tax-payers money. |

ShoeGetSize:I just watched the full video. That was a very light tap on the cute boy's left cheek. There is absolutely NOTHING negative about that... Just pure sensationalism online. If President Erdogan had hit the boy harder than he did and the boy cried out or got hurt, I would have condemned his behavior. The boy was even looking lively after the bants with the Turkish President and it melted my heart just seeing the bants between those kids and the Turkish leader. Period. |
