WriterNig:Okay... Now OP, I had a hunch it was gonna be your post when I saw the headline on the NL homepage and it turned out to be so. I've realized that you always get a burst of dopamine rush when American military planes crash. I wonder the kind of thinking and energy that makes you engage in all these gloatings? |
ABANGWABOI:I remember the PH couple that lost all the 3 of their teenage children, a son and two daughters who were students of the Loyola Jesuit College in Abuja (they were all flying back for holidays with other students from their school in Abuja). The Sosoliso plane had the delectable Bimbo Odukoya onboard as well when it landed, crashed and burst into flames during a bad weather in the 2000s. Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde's pilot husband actually flew that plane from Lagos to Abuja before the flight took off again with another set of pilots from Abuja to PH. Those who lost all their children in that plane crash or via school bus accidents had to start having children all over again after therapy sessions with psychotherapists. Having 10 children is even NO absolute guarantee that they will all not pass on before the parents do. There are esoteric permutations in this life that are beyond the understanding of the average human on the street level. The most important thing is to live a fulfilled life and don't ever be afraid to write a will from the age of 40 years so that you can start tidying things up with regards to your assets and liabilities. |
Fineman2:OMG... 15 years! My deep condolences go to Francis Duru. He's one of the very few Nigerian-born actors I respect for his stage acting and screen times. Take charge bro. |
Abagworo:I have to step this very moment because what you posted is CLEARLY FALSE! A lot of you Ibos keep recycling these same FALSEHOODS online and offline that the natural gas Lagos State uses is from Imo or elsewhere in the South East Iboland, but this is INCORRECT. I have to address this topic today so that the disinformation from the propaganda and secessionist Websites young and impressionable Ibos get these deliberately FABRICATED stories from will stop! I've been a member of Nairaland since 2005 and I know you well from back in the day to be a rational guy but in the last 2 years, I noticed a penchant for you to make flippant allegations laced with some form of hate or sarcasm. I must state here and now that indeed Imo State (which is where you are from being that you are an Aguta indigene) has large UNTAPPED gas reserves and It's impressive that Imo State gas would feed industries and CNG cars down the road, but this disinformation that natural gas is piped from Imo or other areas in Iboland to sustain Lagos is highly irresponsible and disrespectful to the people of Itsekiriland (who are ancestrally blood relatives of the larger Yoruba people who are indigenous to Nigeria, Benin Republic, and Togo). Just to emphasize again, the Itsekiris are a Yoruboid group that is largely made up of Ijebu, Ilaje, and Ife (Ufe) ancestries with some Bini-Edo exiled immigration in 1480 through Prince Ginuwa [who was eldest son of Oba Olua, the 14th Oba of Benin (1473–1480 CE) and Heir Apparent to the throne of the Benin Kingdom] and 70 of his lieutenants who were sons of 70 noble men and settled in an Ijebu community called Ode Itsekiri, Omadina is another Itsekiri community led by Chief Lenuwa whose folks spread out originally from Ijebu Waterside area now in Ogun State several centuries ago. The Ijaws of Delta State too have oil and gas reserves and are not making these kinds of spurious and fabricated claims on Nairaland or on other social media platforms! The Itsekiris- By Village Of Origin https://www.itsekirinawb.org/single-post/2017/12/04/the-itsekiris-by-village-of-origin https://independent.ng/itsekiri-shares-same-lineage-culture-with-ijebu-in-yorubaland-high-chief-adeyemi/ Read the FACTS Below About the Escravos to Lagos Pipeline System from the Website. The Escravos (Ugborodo is the real Itsekiri name of that area NOT Escravos) to Lagos Pipeline System supplies natural gas from the oil and gas-rich Itsekiriland in Delta State to Lagos State. There is ALSO another gas pipeline that supplies gas to other countries in West Africa that flows from the same Delta State axis. Background The 36-inch Escravos to Lagos Pipeline System (ELPS) is a natural gas pipeline built in 1989 to supply gas from Escravos in the Niger Delta to various consumption utilization areas. Although the line starts at NGC's gas treatment plant in Warri, piped gas originates from Chevron's Escravos gas plant in Delta State It supplies gas to power plants in the South-west and also feeds the West African Gas Pipeline System, which is a component of the larger Nigeria-Morocco Gas Pipeline.[4] Escravos–Lagos II Expansion In April 2019, NNPC's Group Managing Director announced plans to build an expansion, Escravos–Lagos Pipeline System II, which would double the existing pipeline's capacity to 2.2 billion cubic feet per day. Construction was expected to begin in the second quarter of 2020.[8][6][9] In February 2021, the NNPC announced that the expansion project, described as a "looping of the Excravos–Lagos Pipeline System", was complete.[7][5] https://punchng.com/escravos-lagos-pipeline-set-to-move-2-2-billion-scf-of-gas-nnpc/ https://www.wagpco.com/operations/ Cc: @Naptu2 |
naptu2:This is truly impressive. It'll take Lagos State one notch higher as an international business hub. The gas would feed the greenfield industries and other users within those areas of Greater Lagos. |
PoeticMind:Tobi spoke into existence in a tweet on Twitter (now X) on arrival in America to start her education as a freshman at the Uni in Texas. She said that she was gonna be known worldwide. In 2022 in Oregon, USA, she broke the world record in the 100 meters hurdles in a legal time of 12.12 seconds. I believe Oluwatobiloba Tobi Amusan will do again and win her FIRST ever Olympic gold medal in Paris 2024. If she doesn't get it in a worse-case-scenario, the reigning Olympic champion Jasmine Camacho-Quinn of Puerto Rico will get gold. Congrats to the golden girl on her stellar performance during the semi-finals of the sprint hurdles yesterday. |
AlphaTaikun: |
ogbiwa:Let's get it started! Do YOU know what time it is? Tobi's time! *(In Kool Moe Dee's voice)* She's now successfully in the semi-finals after winning her heat in a quick time of 12.49 seconds. Destination Paris 2024 Olympic gold medal for the world record holder Oluwatobiloba "Tobi" Amusan (if the reigning Olympic champion Jasmine Camacho-Quinn of Puerto Rico doesn't get it). Teach them once more you're NO fluke "golden girl." Ijebu Ode and folks of Nigerian descent worldwide will rock just like the iconic image of "Steeze" rocked Ijebu in 2024. |
olametrix:Bump. The current world record holder in the 100 meters hurdles with a time of 12.12 seconds set since 2022 in Oregon, USA, Oluwatobiloba "Tobi" Amusan (who is based in Texas) won her heat yesterday and she's now in the semi-finals. She is gonna make it to the finals and win an Olympic gold medal. In a WORSE case scenario, she'll win silver medal in that sprint hurdles event if there is an upset because she is one of the 3 big dogs in the sprint hurdles. The Paris 2024 Olympic Games ends on Sunday August 11, 2024, so there's still hope for all folks of Nigerian descent worldwide to celebrate an impending Olympic gold medal from Tobi being the world record holder. Cheers. |
1stGenAmerican:Indeed @1stGenAmerican. Your inferences here are succinctly stated. As a U.S. attorney, this is a field that you have a hang of as well... Dealing with immigration irregularities. I copied you earlier on this thread and dropped a web link in that post. But here's the web link again that'll provide more details about the 23-year-old's father's identify and their pictures together in SA. There's also another Nigerian-South African 27-year-old featured in the same article who is currently doing her Masters at an American Uni. She took part in the Miss SA screening and made it into the top 30, but did NOT make the final cut. It's a legit Website run by a Nigerian immigrant (who also has a biological son with a South African woman) on the Nigerian-South African experience right BELOW. "It’s been a series of tough weeks for a gifted kid with Nigerian roots to prove her South Africanness. Chidimma Adetshina was born and raised in Soweto by a naturalised South African mum and a Nigerian father, Chief Michael Adetshina, aka Okey Wawa (Anu ka Enyi) — a first-generation Nigerian in South Africa, who has served in different capacities in the Nigerian community in Western Cape, South Africa." Freshtruth:Lol... This funny thread picture by the OP just cracked me up right here. If you get into this kind of alleged "Kolabo Hotel," you may NOT come out in one piece. You could end up "LOSING your shirt" or something. ![]()

1Sharon:How's it going @1Sharon? ![]() As someone who pays attention to little details with the skills of a private investigator, I took off a few minutes of my precious time to get more details through advanced data mining and found the information below that "succinctly" suggests that her father is of Ibo ethnicity. I've added a Web link for you and attached the picture of the girl and her father right BELOW. There's another Nigerian-South African 27-year-old by the name of Felicia Modúpẹ́ Lutendo Bajọmọ who was bred under the sunny skies of Shayandima in Limpopo to a South African mother and a Nigerian father, Dr. Abiodun Sunday Bajọmọ. She represented Limpopo in the screening in that South African beauty contest but made it into the top 30 after screening. She didn't make the final list of contestants. It’s been a series of tough weeks for a gifted kid with Nigerian roots to prove her South Africanness. Chidimma Adetshina was born and raised in Soweto by a naturalised South African mum and a Nigerian father, Chief Michael Adetshina, aka Okey Wawa (Anu ka Enyi) — a first-generation Nigerian in South Africa, who has served in different capacities in the Nigerian community in Western Cape, South Africa." Source: https://lagostojozi.com/jollof-x-amapiano-diary/the-nigerian-miss-south-africa/ I know you to be a deep thinker... Let me know your thoughts on the insightful article on the Website I've dropped here. Talk to you later. Cc: @1stGenAmerican, Whoa! I just saw you mention. My post here provides deeper insights into some of your questions. It turns out her father isn't of Yoruba descent but he's of Ibo ethnicity. The mispelling in the name "Adetshina" with that letter "T" had got folks asking some questions. "Chidimma Vanessa Onwe Adetshina alongside her dad, Michael Adetshina, known as Okey Wawa. Sepukku:I will be very CLEAR here. In that post, you used the Yoruba word "Olodo" which means a "stupid person" or "dullard" instead of having a healthy convo... That was an overt abuse. As an older man, I have very little patience for those who try to use sophistry or speak to others impulsive without internalizing issues before speaking. It detracts from any other positives that they spit out. Your last paragraph is a strong possibility. We'll see how things pan out down the road in unraveling her mother's citizenship claims. |
1Sharon:I can't make a sense out of that spelling combination with a letter T as well. Her "opaque" father who is alleged to be a Nigerian is not known yet. Only he can add more clarity to his ancestry because NO family in Nigeria or in the Diaspora Yoruba population centers in the UK, United States, Canada, France, Cote d'Ivoire, etc, uses the spelling combination Adetsina. The ONLY other spelling I see is "Adeshina" with an "H" but "Adesina" is the STANDARD Yoruba spelling. Heck, even the iconic British-Nigerian singer and 1986 Grammy Award winner Sade Adu (who was born in Ibadan with a London School of Economics and Political Science graduate father and an English mother who trained as a registered nurse) uses the correct spelling of Sade and NOT "Shade" with the letter H used by a few. One other thing is that if her mother is really a South African citizen, the beauty contestant should have used a South African name given by her mother's lineage in combination with her supposedly Nigerian-derived surname to blend with her potential South African fans. Well see how things pan out down the road for them all. |
Sepukku:I will respond to your post because I remember seeing your moniker on the thread of that young SA girl who was very active but deactivated from NL. I remember you saying that you lived in SA. First off, you responded very impulsively and unwisely to my post with your negative adjectives which detracted from the positives that you stated there. Learn to state your point WITHOUT casting aspersions. I was proof-reading my post and ADDED more CLARITY and specifics to it by re-editing that post and it was after doing so that I saw your mention. As an internationally well-traveled man, cosmopolitan and a multicultural person, I know full well that dialectic variations exist within linguistic groups and ethnicities. The Yoruba name "Ketu" in Nigeria is spelled as "Ketou" in Benin Republic because of the Anglophone and Francophone interferences. "Amadu" is used in the far North of Nigeria but just right across the border the spelling changes to "Amadou" in Niger Republic because of the same Anglophone and Francophone influences. Just as I stated in my re-edited post BEFORE I saw your mention, because Itsekiris are directly and ancestrally related to the larger Yoruba people, the Itsekiri names Omatsola and Omatseye (both with the letter T) are dialectic variations of the Yoruba names "Omosola and Omoseye." The name Oma and Omo mean the same thing and they both mean child in Yoruba language. The Ilajes of Ondo State use Oma in their Yoruba dialect and they share direct land, creek, and ocean boundaries with their Itsekiri blood relatives and cousins in Delta State. So, you are right about variations in spellings BUT in the case of this SA girl, since we have read that the girl's father is from NIGERIA, I stand firm in my submissions that the name "Adetsina" with the letter "T" is NOT a common spelling combination in all Yorubaland either in Nigeria, Benin, Togo, or in major Yoruba population centers in Ghana, Cote d'Ivoire (I made my first ever visit by commercial airplane to the well planned and beautiful city of Abidjan in Cote d'Ivoire or Ivory Coast in 1987 to attend an international conference and was pleasantly surprised to see a large Yoruba Diaspora there with most being from Ejigbo in Osun State and other Yoruba cities who have been present there for over 100 years now doing international trade, and engaging in other professions), Sierra Leone, Gambia, etc. I will end my convo here and now. |
Wyttcat:There is NO such name as Adetsina (with a letter "T" among the Yoruba people) but the correct spelling is Adesina. I believe very strongly that NO Yoruba father would bastardise his family surname and add a letter "T" to Adesina. The only Yoruboid folks that I know who add "t" to their names are the Itsekiris who have Omatsola, Omatseye, etc, which dialectically are similar to the Yoruba names Omosola and Omoseye. Oma being a dialectical derivative of Omo. Oma and Oma both mean the same thing for a child. Likewise there is NO such thing as "Antetokoumpo" among the over 55 million Yoruba people spread worldwide BUT Adetokunbo. Even the Greeks don't know the meaning of that name "Antetokoumpo" because it's NOT a Greek word. So, MORE information is needed about the backgrounds of these people to know how they derived their names while grappling with the issues of citizenship. I'm curious to know how the SA beauty contestant got her different ethnic name combinations and WHO her REAL father is and his surname. This should also serve as a lesson to those people who like funkifying their names with different combinations or changing their family names abruptly because doing so has legal implications down the road. |

77up:@77up I'm glad you ALSO noticed the error on the part of what this OP is saying. He has misled people here, but the curfew is a LOCAL issue involving an Emir and has nothing to do with President Bola Tinubu. It shows that people like us who read properly before responding to posts online still exist on NL. I used to think that the OP of this thread is a moderate person but it seems he has deviated into inciting people with hate speech and misinformation OR he just has a VERY BAD case of Attention Deficit Disorder! Eternal vigilance is KEY. |
God1000:The OP of this thread DIDN'T even read the article he posted FULLY but rushed to upload it on NL. Even the newly uploaded pictures with scenes of the violence in your profile suggest many things. This Lere in Bauchi military curfew by a LOCAL Emir has ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to do with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu who you are vilifying here. It's a local issue imposed by a local Emir. You the OP have misled a lot of readers on this thread who have "horrible short attention spans" with your hysterical submissions. ONLY those who learn to read carefully and FACT-CHECK information before responding online would immediately detect that your posts on this thread right from page one are misleading! EXCERPTS From the OP's Article: "Tension has risen in Lere District, Tafawa Balewa Local Government Area of Bauchi State, following a deadly clash between soldiers and residents. According to eyewitnesses, the soldiers from Operation Haven of the Nigerian Army, who were enforcing a curfew imposed by the local Emir, Alhaji Aliyu Abubakar Bawa, killed five people and injured eight others." Bmaster:You seem to suggest from your post that the sewer rat and troll you quoted is a Yoruba. That troll is NOT a Yoruba but an impostor. His post history gives him away and the posts are relentlessly filled with toxic hate speech in order to specifically fuel ethnic hatred between the Northerners and Yoruba folks. I've already informed the Super Moderators and his FALSE post claiming to be of Yoruba descent has been swiftly taken down by the Mods. Other NL posters also called that creep out for the hate speech and disinformation. Further actions will be taken from here on out because there's been an uptick in the use of the social media to fuel the spread of FAKE news and doctored videos online to create more political tensions since late July 2024 till this moment. |
Kingsmeal: |
Adamux:Tbh, the DSS and other Intelligence Agencies have to move in immediately to work hand-in-hand with Nairaland and other social media platforms to smoke out these sewer rats from their hiding places. If it is necessary to change the leadership and structure of the Intelligence Agencies like the DSS to track down those fueling ethnic hatred and spreading FAKE news online using YouTube, X, NL and other social media platforms, then that must be done ASAP. What happened in the UK recently with all the violence, the burning of mosques, and looting of stores by hooded White gangs was triggered by fake news from right wing elements from the English Defence League via social media who thought the 17-year-old boy who stabbed 3 girls to death in England and injured others is a Muslim immigrant. It turned out that he is of Rwandan parentage and was actually born in Wales and he is NOT even a Muslim. If the UK police had revealed that boy's true identity on time, perhaps the vicious violence, arson and lootings by hooded White gangs in some UK cities would NOT have occured so soon. These strands of dark creeps have been using the same tactics to relentlessly push out a lot of FAKE news, hate speech and toxic ethnic impersonations online right before and after the Nigerian protest started on August 1, 2024, so as to fuel ethnic tensions and destroy Nigeria. That's the plan of these insidious dweebs. |
Built2last:I know FULL WELL what the original post is all about. We all have different perspectives to issues and I simply gave my piece. There's nothing spectacular about an American-born (or even a British-born) person of Nigerian descent winning an Olympic gold for Nigeria. Since the young lady wasn't able to represent Nigeria and consequently represented the United States where she was originally born in 1996, that's okay by me. I'm impressed that the young lady won that individual silver medal for herself and her birth country the United States and that is what matters most. The iconic soccer Dream Team won gold medals for Nigeria at the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta, Georgia. Chioma Ajunwa has won the long jump Olympic gold medal for Nigeria while still working as a police officer in Nigeria as well. As of today, Oluwatobiloba "Tobi" Amusan has just won her heat in the sprint hurdles and already qualified for the semi-finals. 'Tobi is the current "reigning world record holder" of 12.12 seconds in the 100 meters hurdles since the 2022 World Championships in Eugene, Oregon USA. and she is set to rewrite the record of Gloria Alozie who also won an Olympic silver medal in that same event 24 years ago. 'Tobi will definitely win an Olympic medal for Nigeria at the ongoing Paris 2024 which ends on Sunday August 11, 2024. Any of the big dogs in the sprint hurdles between Oluwobiloba "Tobi" Amusan or Jasmine Camacho-Quinn of Puerto Rico who is the current Olympic record holder of 12.36 seconds achieved in Tokyo in 2021 (The Tokyo 2020 Summer Olympics took place in July 2021 due to the COVID-19 lockdowns) in the sprint hurdles will win the gold medal. I've relentlessly followed live Summer Olympic Games since the memorable Los Angeles 1984 games in California, and I've observed that there are times when Nigeria goes through these cycles of boom and bust for decades now like the global financial markets or global economic cycles. But a more sustainable sporting strategy will be achieved with stronger institutions and proper funding. |

Aliyutani:That's a deeply enjoyable and well-written piece... No typographic errors. "Aboki" simply means "Friend" in English so you shouldn't consider it derogatory. Or if you say "Aboki na" which means "My friend" in English, that CAN'T be termed derogatory. What jumped right at me is that you said "Alade" is a Hausa word for pig... But what has to be emphasized here is that the word is a loan word which is etymologically derived from the Yoruba word for pig which is "Elede." Ashana is another word in Hausa for match sticks which is etymologically derived from the Yoruba word "Isana" which is match sticks. There are about 20 Hausa words that are loaned from the Yoruba language. Conversely, there are loan words from Arabic or even Hausa in Yoruba language as well because of the over 500 years presence of Islam in Yorubaland (Oyo Empire) which originally came into Yorubaland from the Mali Empire hence the older Yoruba name "Esin imale" meaning "the religion from Mali", due to the fact that the Oyo Empire engaged in long-distance trading in kolanuts and more with the Mali Empire, Ashanti Empire, and Hausaland via the Nupe country where horses were brought in for the use of the powerful Oyo Cavalry military conquests. The thread gives insights on unique multicultural experiences which I like to read as a well-traveled person myself. |
yinka902:Bump. Those are some of the loan words incorporated into Hausa language that are derived directly from the Yoruba language. Yorubas also have some loan words derived from Arabic. But these few Arabic loan words in Arabic also have Yoruba original equivalents that are used simultaneously. The Hausa people refer to it as Agwaluma, a term they adopted from the Yoruba language, rather than "Agbalumo." This is because there is no African star apple native to Hausa Land. One local enduring sobriquet is derived from the Yoruba agbalumo, i.e., 'agbaluma,' and is used in certain parts of Nigeria.
