Allardyce: I suggest that you download Showmax so that you may watch the newest films and cast them on your smart TV.
I don't really have time to watch my DSTV which is running on Compact Plus.... When I have some free time, I simply launch the Showmax app, choose a live match or interesting movie, and cast it to my laptop.
The only time I make use of my DSTV is to vote for my Friend at Nigeria Idol, or to Stream Simon's Snake in the City show.
DeepSight: Was he going there to be a destitute or nuisance? Abeg use your head. Sometimes these embassies employ illiterates who make stupid decisions. It has happened to me years ago, I was working for one of the largest multinationals and was scheduled for a business trip. They denied the visa on the grounds that I might not come back to Nigeria.
An application fully paid for and backed by the multinational.
Needless to say that decision was later reversed.
I have also seen a situation where a seventy year old ex diplomat going for a medical trip was told the same rubbish.
Bolanle Olukanni, the daughter of Ambassador Ayoola Olukanni, the former Nigerian Commissioner to Australia between 2011 and 2015 writes:
I just want you guys to know that the Nigeria passport has really been bastardized. My father is a whole retired Ambassador who lived and served in Austria for 3 years. He applied for a schengen visa alongside my mum and the Austrian embassy denied their visas😂😂
Do you realize the lack of diplomacy and courtesy and disregard for a country you have to have to deny a former foreign service officer a visa. A Foreign service officer who served for 30 years and has been to over 30 countries 😂😭😭😭😂
They think he wants to japa to Austria 😭😭 I’m so insulted. Lord
Bolanle Olukanni
Something must have happened during the interview process. It's inconceivable that the Austrian Embassy would deny a former Nigerian Ambassador to that same country and his family visas just like that.
Image123: Rubbish talk. BTW, That picture was in 2020. That was Buhari's time. About 5 to 6 years into Buhari's rule. Most people also fave GEJ a lot of time before complaining about his docility and cluelessness.
It's impressive that YOU brought this documented video facts up. The objective of the thread was to insult folks of Yoruba descent based on all the hate speeches I have read on the thread right from Page 1 and it even got pushed to the frontpage. @Seun would have to rejig his mods again because infiltrators have moved in to keep pushing anti-Yoruba and anti-Ogun State posts to the NL frontpage just like it happened in 2022 with a former mod here who was sussed out for pushing these negative threads out back-to-back.
This shows the OP of this thread to be a very toxic and highly dishonest ethnic bigot for trying to MISLEAD his fellow ethnic bigots and other NL readers here to WRONGLY think the picture of Adeboye holding a placard was during the Jonathan Presidency.
It's important to speak out when things aren't going on right in any goverment but it's very wrong to falsely accuse folks of Yoruba descent who are over 50 million worldwide of being complicit or even for Idris to single out Adeboye out of all Nigerians in his music track (which after listening to it contained a lot of incorrect, criminally defamatory comments). Idris could have just stuck to singing about the economic issues caused by the fuel subsidy removal and floating of the Nigerian currency in addition to proferring functional solutions instead of going off-track or rambling on about freeing Kanu out of jail when the case is still in court. He obviously had limited solutions to give himself and was just trying to be populist and patronize Ibos in that track. I read that Idris has kidney failure, so, yes he has to spend a lot to treat himself and take care of his family so that could have led to him making that song out of frustration.
With the new mega NNPC CNG station in Isolo Industrial Estate in Ilasamaja, Lagos, where happy car, truck, and tricycle drivers have been buying cheap CNG since May 30 , 2024 at the rate of N200 per standard cubic feet, it would help to sharply drive down the cost of transportation of people and food items in Nigeria within the NEXT 2 to 3 months if sustained and other regions of Nigeria have similar CNG stations like NNPC has planned. I read all these online and watched the videos of the launched of the NNPC CNG refill station in Lagos as well so it's true.
Dangote Petrochemical Refinery too will finally start the production and distribution of PMS from July 17, 2024 so, that should further drive down the entire cost of living for Nigerians with effective price monitoring because obviously some greedy shylocks would want to maximize profits by NOT wanting to bring down the cost of things they sell.
Eedris Abdulkareem drags Adeboye, Tinubu, others in new song, ‘Emi Lokan’ Nigerian singer Eedris Abdulkareem has criticised Pastor E.A. Adeboye, the senior pastor of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, RCCG, over his silence on the hardship in the country.
Eedris, in a newly released satirical song titled ‘Emilokan’, accused Adeboye of hypocrisy in the face of the hardship confronting Nigerians under Tinubu’s government.
Eedris mentioned that while Adeboye was vocal in criticising the administration of former President Goodluck Jonathan, he has remained silent over the hardships faced by Nigerians under President Bola Tinubu’s administration.
He said, “During Good Luck Jonathan, your voice was so loud, you vowed to stage a one-million-dollar match. Hunger and hardship under Tinubu’s government; you said Nigeria has a spiritual problem.”
Calling for a protest against Tinubu’s administration, Eedris said, “Baba, we need your one million disciples to protest against Tinubu’s government just the way you protested against President Jonathan.
“This is a very big hypocrisy; this is the time for you to speak the truth to power because hunger wants to kill Nigerians.”
He also claimed in the song that Emi Lokan [It’s my turn], a popular slogan used by Tinubu during his electoral campaign, has turned to Ebi Lokan [It’s hunger’s turn] as Nigerians complain of hunger across the nation.
“Emi lokan don turn ebi lokan Yorubas are screaming “’ebi panwao ooo”

Speaking on the minimum wage demands of the organised labour, Eedris Abdulkareem said senators and house of Representative members should be paid N65,000, so “everybody would enjoy the suffering and smiling.”
descartes400: I was thinking the cannisters are suppose to diffuse gas when activated not detonate like a grenade.
Over the years, I've seen protesters and rioters worldwide picking up activated or unactivated teargas canisters to throw back at the anti-policemen with their bare hands. After seeing this Kenyan video, it's just NOT advisable for anyone to do that.
Further investigations turned out other cases of exploding teargas canisters which have occured around the world including Nigeria with severe consequences for the hands and eyes of the policemen involved. A teargas cannister can indeed explode. The Weblinks below shed more light on this fact.
I feel empathy for the Kenyan senior policemen. If he had clairvoyant insights that he would lose his hands on that day, he would have feigned illness in order to avoid coming to work in the morning. But then again, it is what it is. I hope he can get good prosthetic arms so he can engage in a meaningful occupation and I'm counting on all Kenyans (including those protesters) to rally round him to raise extra funds for him regardless of whether he has insurance cover or not.
What if I told you this is the first time I'm noticing you can get tunde from ednut and vice versa.
Indeed, we learn new things everyday. In addition to Tunde being spelled backwards to get "Ednut" names such as Karen (Nerak), Naomi (Imoan), and Maria (Airam) are just a few of the funkified names in reverse.
Serena Williams even has a trademarked beauty brand called "Aneres" which is Serena spelled in reverse.
The police officer attached to the Rapid Deployment Unit (RDU), was facing off with protesters in the Nairobi city centre on Tuesday, June 18, when he blew up his hands with the explosive. It was gathered that some people were protesting against the finance bill. Photos of Police officer who lost both hands after teargas canister detonated on him during protests
During the face-off, police used water cannons and teargas to disperse the protesters. Sadly, Inspector David Maina lost both hands after a teargas canister detonated in his hands. Photos of Police officer who lost both hands after teargas canister detonated on him during protests
He is currently admitted to Nairobi West Hospital, where he is undergoing treatment after losing his hands
That's a gory scene right there. From the first picture, it's very clear that his palms got ripped off from the rest of his hands. I NEVER knew that tear gas canisters can be that deadly to the person holding them.
treesun: The Federal Government, led by President Bola Tinubu, allocated a total of N14.77 billion for the repair and maintenance of Nigeria's presidential air fleet over an 11-month period, according to a State House report.
The payments, executed in 11 separate tranches spanning from July 16, 2023, to May 25, 2024, were processed through the 'Presidential Air Fleet Transit Funds' account at the State House headquarters, a report by Sunday PUNCH said.
The allocation coincides with ongoing deliberations in the National Assembly regarding the acquisition of two new aircraft. This move comes after concerns were raised about the functionality of the President's 19-year-old Boeing 737 and other aircraft in the fleet, which have experienced operational challenges.
A report from the House of Representatives Committee on National Security and Intelligence highlighted the urgent need for additional aircraft, estimating the procurement cost at over $623.4 million or N918.7 billion. The committee stressed the critical importance of maintaining a reliable and safe fleet, crucial for the duties and security of the President and Vice President of Nigeria.
The condition of the presidential air fleet has sparked significant debate, despite substantial past expenditures by previous administrations. The current situation has led President Tinubu to occasionally charter private jets, while Vice President Shettima had to cancel international trips due to technical faults with official aircraft.
According to the Sunday PUNCH report, as of now, the Presidential Air Fleet consists of six main aircraft: a Boeing 737, Gulfstream G550, Gulfstream GV, two Falcon 7Xs, and a Challenger CL605, alongside six helicopters. During the tenure of former President Muhammadu Buhari, N62.47 billion was expended on the fleet's operation and maintenance. However, pledges to reduce fleet size to cut governance costs were not fully realized, with allocations fluctuating over recent fiscal years.
GovSpend, a civic tech platform, confirmed that President Tinubu's administration authorized the disbursement of N14.77 billion within a year of assuming office. This expenditure excludes costs related to the President's and Vice President's domestic and international travels.
Payments commenced with N1.52 billion approved in July 2023 for maintenance, followed by subsequent disbursements: N3.1 billion in August, N1.26 billion in November 2023, N2.54 billion in March 2024, N6.35 billion in April 2024, and N1.27 billion in May 2024.
Last Wednesday, SaharaReporters reported that President Tinubu departed Lagos for South Africa to attend the inauguration of the country’s President, Cyril Ramaphosa in a private jet belonging to his Lebanese ally, Gilbert Chagoury.
The Nigerian President arrived at Waterkloof Air Force Base on the outskirts of Pretoria, South Africa’s administrative capital, on Tuesday evening.
Video and pictures released by the South African presidential media team showed Tinubu disembarked from a Dassault Falcon 8X aircraft.
However, SaharaReporters gathered that the private jet marked 9H-GRC was owned by Chagoury Group, a conglomerate owned by Gilbert Chagoury, a known business partner of the Nigerian President.
A further check by SaharaReporters on an aircraft registration database revealed that the private jet and others owned by the group are operated by Hyperion Aviation.
The Dassault Falcon 8X was first operated by Aviation SA before it was transferred to Amjet Executive.
The aircraft was also briefly registered under Chagoury Group for some days before its operation was moved to Hyperion Aviation.
Hyperion is an air charter company operating business jets, headquartered in Malta.
SaharaReporters had reported how a Boeing Business Jet (Boeing 737-700) marked 5N-FGT owned by the Nigerian government incurred parking charges running into millions of Naira since it was transported to Germany on March 25 for repairs.
The amount accounted for the aircraft’s parking charges for over 80 days, at the rate of €5,000 (N8million) at the rate of N1613 to €1.
In April, the President was forced to travel to Saudi Arabia on a charter flight for the World Economic Forum in Riyadh from the Netherlands.
At the time, the President left Nigeria on a Gulfstream Aerospace GV-SP (G550) with registration number 5N-FGW and serial number 5310 (Mode-S 0640F2) because the Boeing 737-700 marked 5N-FGT was undergoing rehabilitation in Germany.
However, the second aircraft he was travelling on developed a fault in the Netherlands.
The Nigerian leader arrived in The Hague on April 23 from Nigeria for a series of economic and diplomatic engagements at the instance of Prime Minister Mark Rutte.
It was reported that the Nigerian President learnt shortly before he was scheduled to depart the Netherlands that his plane had suffered unspecified problems, one of which an official identified as including an oxygen leak.
The president and his delegation left the presidential aircraft behind and opted for a charter jet company to take them to Saudi Arabia for the forum.
The aircraft, a Gulfstream G550 class, was originally dedicated to Vice President, Kashim Shettima.
BeeBeeOoh: Nigeria has recorded a commercial transaction of raw gold sales at the London Bullion Market Association, the Minister of Solid Minerals Development, Dele Alake disclosed on Sunday.
He said the sales have delivered a $5m increase in Nigeria’s foreign reserves, 70 plus kilograms of gold refined to the London Bullion Market Good Delivery Standard and successful aggregation of locally mined gold thereby injecting about N6bn into the rural economy.
Alake disclosed this while presenting the latest gold bar sourced from artisanal and small gold miners and refined by the Solid Minerals Development Fund to President Bola Tinubu during the weekend.
The minister in a statement signed by the Special Assistant on Media, Segun Tomori, said the refined gold would be sold to the Central Bank of Nigeria to bolster foreign reserves.
Nigeria reportedly has about 600,000 tonnes of gold reserves, worth about $45bn located in several states including Zamfara, Edo.
However, the upsurge of illegal mining has led to a notable diversion of the nation’s commonwealth into the hands of private individuals, thereby diminishing resources intended for public benefit.
Three years ago, former president Muhammadu Buhari declared Zamfara State a ‘no-fly zone’ as part of efforts to curb the problem of illegal gold mining.
At the event, Alake commended Tinubu for supporting reforms in the solid minerals sector, assuring that the National Gold Purchase programme will increase the country’s reserve and boost the naira’s value.
Explaining to President Tinubu the significance of the event, Alake said it marked the first commercial transaction under the National Gold Purchase Program, the centralised offtake scheme supported by a decentralised aggregation and production network of artisanal and small-scale miners and cooperatives.
He said, “The successful completion of the first commercial transaction demonstrates the National Gold Purchase Program’s effectiveness. It has increased the nation’s foreign reserves assets and shown that using the Nigerian Naira to purchase a liquid asset traded in United States Dollars, such as gold, is a viable strategy. This transaction has also underscored the potential of the National Gold Purchase Program to enhance fiscal and monetary stability.”
Receiving and displaying a symbolic bar, Tinubu commended the Ministry for achieving a major milestone in the administration’s drive to diversify the economy.
“This is another concrete step towards the diversification process under the Renewed Hope Agenda,” the President said.
In her presentation, the Executive Secretary of the Solid Minerals Development Fund, Fatimah Shinkafi said the London Bullion Market Good Delivery Standard is the globally recognised stringent and trusted standard that enables the global trade in gold and silver bars.
“Only gold and silver bars that meet our Good Delivery standards are acceptable in the settlement of a Loco London contract – where the bullion traded is physically held in London” she said.
Shinkafi said, that through the efforts of the National Gold Purchase Program under the Ministry of Solid Minerals Development, Nigeria has joined a select group of countries bolstering their gold reserves by purchasing gold in local currency to foster economic confidence, enhance currency stability, and create a more attractive environment for foreign investment.
NOW, more gold bars can be bought and stored as part of Nigeria's reserves. This is what many countries around the world such as Australia, China, India, Russia, Saudi Arabia, etc, are doing to STRATEGICALLY shore up their external reserves instead of selling all their mined unrefined gold nuggets or allowing illegal miners to hijack the mining sites.
lwisee: …Indicts NMDPRA over importation of dirty diesel, jet fuel
Vice President, Oil and Gas at Dangote Industries Limited (DIL), Devakumar Edwin, has accused the International Oil Companies (IOCs) in Nigeria of plotting to cripple its operations.
Edwin said the IOCs are deliberately frustrating the refinery’s efforts to buy local crude by jerking up the high premium price above the market price, thereby forcing it to import crude from countries as far as the United States, with its attendant high costs.
Edwin, who disclosed this at a one-day training programme, for journalists in Lagos also blamed the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA), for granting licenses to marketers to import dirty refined products into the country.
He said: “The Federal Government issued 25 licences to build refineries and we are the only one that delivered on promise. In effect, we deserve every support from the Government. It is good to note that from the start of production, more than 3.5 billion litres, which represents 90 per cent of our production, have been exported. We are calling on the Federal Government and regulators to give us the necessary support to create jobs and prosperity for the nation.”
According to him, “While the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC) is trying their best to allocate the crude for us, the IOCs are deliberately and willfully frustrating our efforts to buy the local crude. It would be recalled that the NUPRC, recently met with crude oil producers as well as refineries owners in Nigeria, in a bid to ensure full adherence to Domestic Crude Oil Supply Obligations (DCSO), as enunciated under section 109(2) of the Petroleum Industry Act (PIA).
“It seems that the IOCs’ objective is to ensure that our Petroleum Refinery fails. It is either they are deliberately asking for ridiculous/humongous premium or, they simply state that crude is not available. At some point, we paid $6 over and above the market price. This has forced us to reduce our output as well as import crude from countries as far as the US, increasing our cost of production.
“It appears that the objective of the IOCs is to ensure that Nigeria remains a country which exports Crude Oil and imports refined Petroleum Products. They (IOCs) are keen on exporting the raw materials to their home countries, creating employment and wealth for their countries, adding to their GDP, and dumping the expensive refined products into Nigeria – thus making us to be dependent on imported products.
“It is the same strategy the multinationals have been adopting in every commodity, making Nigeria and Sub-Saharan Africa to be facing unemployment and poverty, while they create wealth for themselves at our expense. This is exploitation – pure and simple. Unfortunately, the country is also playing into their hands by continuing to issue import licences, at the expense of our economy and at the cost of the health of the Nigerians who are exposed to carcinogenic products.
“Even though we are producing and bringing out diesel into the market, complying with ECOWAS regulations and standards, licences are being issued, in large quantities, to traders who are buying the extremely high sulphur diesel from Russia and dumping it in the Nigerian Market.
“Since the US, EU and UK imposed a Price Cap Scheme from 5th February 2023 on Russian Petroleum Products, a large number of vessels are waiting near Togo with Russian ultra-high sulphur diesel and, they are being purchased and dumped into the Nigerian Market.
“Some of the European countries were so alarmed about the carcinogenic effect of the extra high sulphur diesel being dumped into the Nigerian Market that countries like Belgium and the Netherlands imposed a ban on such fuel being exported from its country, into West Africa, recently. Sadly, the country is giving import licences for such dirty diesel to be imported into Nigeria, when we have more than adequate petroleum refining capacity locally.” https://www.vanguardngr.com/2024/06/dangote-refinery-accuses-iocs-of-plotting-to-cripple-its-operations/
Intrepid01: Ganging up against Tinubu is a wrong move, it’s a dead on arrival move! It is even more wrong to be doing that so early on in his Presidency. Tinubu is a ruthless politician, he’s just trying to act gentle in the last 1 year. All of them are too small for him to chew, they already made a mistake by supporting him to be President, now that he is President, a thousand of them can’t kick him out. By the time he starts dealing with El-Rufai, Atiku and even Buhari himself they’ll abandon their plan. That was how they tried to gather against OBJ that year but he destroyed them all.
Tinubu is worse than OBJ , they had better take note.
A ruthless politician you say President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is?
All these trolls and people that are criminally defaming him daily on many well-known Internet platforms such as X, NL, FB, YouTube, etc, what has he done about bringing them to justice for falsehoods, and defamation? Nothing! He wants to be seen as Mr. Nice guy but that will be his undoing if he doesn't change his tame approach. He has to learn to be a "benevolent dictator" (Treating the citizens or people nicely with a sustainable economy, BUT be hard on criminal elements who want to destabilize Nigeria).
Tinubu and all the State Governors also has to move rapidly to ensure that CNG buses are released for mass transit buses and haulage vehicles in order to lower the cost of transportation and food items since CNG has been on sale from May 30, 2024 to happy car owners and truck drivers at NNPC Auto gas (CNG) stations in Lagos State with more to be opened in other regions of Nigeria.
Dangote Petrochemical Refinery in Ibeju-Lekki, Lagos will commence the distribution of PMS from July 17, 2024 as promised by Aliko Dangote. So, within 2 to 3 months from now, things will NOW start improving economically. If things pan out right based on the economy, Tinubu will be re-elected again as President in 2027, unless he screws up with his support base and gets kicked out for another fresher political leader.
System202: u people are selfish, as a northerner who voted for tinubu but I swear I now realise that tinubu is foolish. All his appointment is giving to his people only, untop of that his performance is worst than worst he is calamity, he only remember south east and south south when some issues about north arise. Do u think Ss and sE are blind and foolish about what tinubu is doing. It's from the north that he got his majority of votes and when he ditch them and failed to performe he will be left alone with no one to stand for him. Ribadu cannot win even a Governorship primary election.
@System202,
Your post above is HIGHLY misleading.
Your accusations as contained in the BOLDED section of your post that ALL President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's appointments are given to his Yoruba people is INCORRECT! You have to learn to carefully FACT-CHECK whatever you read online OR offline in order to make sure that you are NOT helping to spread FAKE news or propaganda from ethnic bigots, secessionists, fake news bloggers, and some initially misinformed people. These same pathological liars and propagandists were the same gang of people who told a LIE during the Presidential election cycle in 2022 against the Vice President Kashim Shettima calling him a major Boko Haram sponsor and even circulated a sick caption of him sitting down in that photograph with alleged Boko Haram members to eat. It turned out to be a FALSE accusation when the "British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) Disinformation Team" did advanced investigations using technologies that indicated that the men in the picture were just ordinary Fulani men in Borno State who he was eating with on a mat.
Below are the FULL LISTS and instances where President Bola Ahmed Tinubu gave strategic political appointments to people from all the regions of Nigeria (Many Northerners and Southerners combined), and one Ibo woman even rejected her political appointment by the Tinubu administration as stated in the link below: =>https://punchng.com/meet-urum-eke-who-rejected-tinubus-cbn-appointment/
The following names directly BELOW are POWERFUL or STATEGIC ministerial political positions held by Northerners from the North-West, North-Central and North-East of Nigeria.
Minister of Art, Culture and the Creative Economy, Hannatu Musawa
Minister of Defence, Mohammed Badaru
Minister of State Defence, Bello Matawalle
Minister of State Education, Yusuf T. Sunumu
Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Ahmed M. Dangiwa
Minister of State, Housing and Urban Development, Abdullah T. Gwarzo
Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, Atiku Bagudu
Minister of State, Federal Capital Territory, Mairiga Mahmud
Minister of State, Water Resources and Sanitation, Bello M. Goronyo
Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Abubakar Kyar
Minister of Education, Tahir Maman
Minister of Interior, Sa’Idu A. Alkali
Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yusuf M. Tuggar
Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Ali Pate
Minister of Police Affairs, Ibrahim Geidam
Minister of State, Steel Development, U. Maigari Ahmadu
Minister of Steel Development, Shuaibu A. Audu
Minister of Information and National Orientation, Muhammed Idris
Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Lateef Fagbemi
Minister of Labour and Employment, Simon B. Lalong
Minister of State, Police Affairs, Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim
Minister of Special Duties and Inter-Govermental Affairs, Zephaniah Jisalo
Minister of Water Resources and Sanitation, Joseph Utsev
Minister of State, Agriculture and Food Security, Aliyu Sabi Abdullahi
There are more examples of political appointments that cut across regions but I will STOP here. Tinubu is someone that can get you angry sometimes with his perceived actions and inactions BUT I detest it so much when anybody is being lied upon and criminally defamed regardless of the the person's political affiliations OR social status. This is the reason why I had to correct the FALSE assumptions in your post.
In conclusion, with regards to the economy of Nigeria, a new big NNPC CNG station that will sell auto gas at N200 per cubic feet to Car owners, trucks, tricycles daily and more was commissioned on May 30 2024 in Lagos State with more on the way in other regions of Nigeria. This would lower the cost of transportation and food items.
Also Dangote Petrochemical Refinery in Ibeju-Lekki, Lagos, will commence the distribution of PMS (petrol) from July 17, 2924 and Aliko Dangote has given his final words that Nigeria will NOT need to import PMS again from refineries abroad. This too will lead to the price reduction in transportation costs, haulage costs, and the reduction in the cost of buying food items. Within 2 to 3 months from now based on my analyses of the impending economic turnaround, many Nigerians will be relieved of the horrific hyperinflation and the cost of buying food items and expensive drugs.
treesun: The Sultan of Sokoto, Muhammadu Saad Abubakar III, says it will take decades for the bandit-ravaged North-West geopolitical zone to come out of the menacing security challenge.
The President General of the Nigeria Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA) stated this at the North-West Peace and Security Summit in Katsina State on Monday.
“What we must do is to challenge these bandits because we all know the consequences of banditry and insurgency on our lives. But it will take decades to get out of it if all we get out of it. We all know the consequences and the problems,” he said.
The Sultan expressed the readiness of traditional rulers to partner with security agencies and the seven governors of the geopolitical zone to “save our region from the numerous problems” of banditry and insurgency.
dre11: A former Senator representing Kaduna Central Senatorial District in the 8th National Assembly, Shehu Sani, has said the recent visits by some prominent northern politicians to ex-President Muhammadu Buhari in Daura, Katsina State, were all plots to unseat President Bola Tinubu in 2027.
The PUNCH reported that former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, who is also the Peoples Democratic Party candidate in the 2023 presidential election, as well as the former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, among others, recently paid a Sallah homage to the former president in his hometown, Daura.
Buhari handed over power to Tinubu, the candidate of the All Progressives Congress, who garnered 8,794,726 votes to defeat Abubakar, who secured 6,984,520 votes, on May 29, 2023.
According to Sani, who also is an activist, the prominent northerners want to resurrect the Buhari political charms, and fanaticism and mobilize the gullible to another hollow and bewildering end.
A project, the former lawmaker in a post on his verified Facebook handle on Monday, noted would eventually fail.
Sani, therefore, urged northerners to reject the faces and their plot to unseat the president come 2027 while noting that they had nothing to offer.
Sani said, “The recent visits by some prominent Northern politicians to Daura appears to be the usual Eid homage, but looking deeper and beyond the facade, it’s surreptitiously a new attempt to build a strong northern alliance using ex-President Buhari as a rallying point to challenge and evict President Tinubu’s Government in 2027. It’s a regrouping of Northern political forces for the next general election. A project that will eventually kiss the dust.
“They want to resurrect Buhari’s political charm, and fanaticism and mobilise the gullible to another hollow and bewildering end. They want to stock up and light up the Arewa sentiment without considering the inferno it would eventually generate
“The same Buhari that led Nigeria for eight years and left the North worse than he met it. It’s too early to forget. By the time he left power, poverty and insecurity were at their peak than at any time in Nigeria’s history. They had power and wasted it; what do they want to do with it again?
“A Southerner is in power just for one year. It’s too early for the desperate and power-hungry northern elite to start plotting. The South never did that to Buhari. Their intended action has the capacity of ruining the democratic process and wrecking the fragile unity of the country when the South is awakened to this reality.
“Their obsession with power is condemnable. Opposition to Tinubu from the point of policies, promises and programs of his administration is a democratic right of any Nigerian. People have the right to speak and criticize the Government. But attempts to whip up Northern sentiments to achieve their political ends is a dangerous political experiment and expedition at this material time.”
He added, “No serious southerner challenged Buhari for eight years; these power-drunk Northern politicians are dragging the region to a new political journey through a land mine.
“Buhari’s reign ensured nepotistical placement, installation and dominance of Northerners at strategic positions of authority and power for eight years. Results have shown that they only enriched themselves, pillaged the economy of the country and pauperised our country.
“The Daura homage of the disgruntled and the obsessed will fail. Our people in the North should reject these faces and their plots. They have nothing to offer. From the abandoned Baro Port, Ajaokuta, Lake Chad basin refiling and Mambilla hydropower, they failed.
“They came to power when the North was in the hands of terrorists and left it in the joint hands of terrorists and Bandits. The Northern Talakawa should reject their antics.”
The Dele Farotimi dude is partly correct about a likely revolt from the Northern folks on the street level (and even other parts of Nigeria in my estimation) but he got me really pissed off and irritated with his glib talk and partial CLUELESSNESS when he started patronizing the Ibos and making it seem like Ibos are INFALLIBLE or some kind of absolute geniuses. This is far from the case as Ibos too are facing the already predicted massive economic heat coming out of the subsidy withdrawal and currency floating with the attendant hyperinflation. If a vast number of Ibos living especially in the urban areas of Nigeria where hyperinflation exists weren't suffering, why are Ibos also crying out and raining curses on multiple Internet platforms and even opening threads on NL to rain curses over the high cost of feeding? The initial bravado from some Ibos online was just the usual "packaging and bragging" which gave way to lamentations online and offline! He annoyingly didn't even mention the possibility of Yoruba folks revolting as well. Farooq Kperogi wrote about a video of some angry Yoruba women who said if they get to see President Tinubu they would beat him up because they perceived the Federal Government was aloof over the outcome of the fuel subsidy removal and economic policies.
All the Governors and elected officials in all Nigerian regions too have a MAJOR role to play in bringing about sustainable modern agricultural development, elimination of armed banditry, and general economic development. It's NOT enough to blame one man called Tinubu but it is what it is with the article that Farooq Kperogi wrote within the last two weeks where he said some Northern kids were stoning President Tinubu's picture thereby simulating the "stoning of the Devil" in Mecca.
I have looked at the economic outlook and indices for the next two months moving forward and this doomsday prediction ISN'T gonna happen! Because of the struggle to survive on a daily basis, a significant number of Nigerians are NOT paying attention to the news outlets.
Just to emphasize here for everyone reading this, a brand new mega NNPC CNG refill station/plant in Lagos State has just been opened in addition to the new NIPCO CNG refill stations to sell CNG at the rate of N200 per standard cubic feet. Also, the brand new multimillion dollar CNG station plant opened to the public on May 30, 2024 in the Isolo Industrial Estate, Ilasamaja, Lagos State. The Facility has dispensing points for filling cars, buses, trucks, and tricycles, utilising CNG, and can fill about 3,700 cars or 600 trucks/buses every day, thereby providing a constant supply of CNG. Other CNG/refill station plants like that are scheduled to be opened in other geopolitical zones in Nigeria.I read online that several happy car owners and truck drivers have started buying cheaper CNG fuel from that NNPC fuel station. A delighted woman who was interviewed said she spends slightly less than N4,100 now to fill up her car with the NNPC CNG unlike the roughly N28,000 she has been spending to fill up her car with PMS. So, for those who are able to convert their cars and trucks to use dual CNG and PMS OR dual CNG and diesel in Lagos and Ogun States, they will readily get CNG in Lagos thereby leading to a sharp drop in the cost of doing business. Also, Lagos State is gearing up to launch into operation 1000 CNG and electric mass transit buses before 2024 ends. So, some folks can leave their cars at home at take the cheaper CNG buses. The Nigerian Railway Corporation from what I read last week online is already fitting there diesel locomotives to use CNG, so the cost of rail transportation would also drop.

Hello Lagos,
Switch to Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) – it's affordable, safe, and sustainable!
Second, with the Dangote Petrochemical Refinery PMS production and distribution scheduled to begin from the 17th of July, 2024, the two types of fuel (CNG and PMS) would SIGNIFICANTLY reduce the cost of transportation of people and food items.
A lot of people in Nigeria have horrendous stories about NOT being able to buy expensive drugs and feed properly and it makes me wince atimes. They also have been too engrossed in the pressures of surviving daily that they aren't paying attention to the good news coming out the cng sector (from the ending of May 30, 2024 to the start of June 2024) and the impending PMS production and distribution which Dangote gave a final pledge would start in the middle of July 2024. Diesel and Aviation fuel price dropped to below N1,000 per litre when Dangote Petrochemical Refinery started production in 2024 as well.
Only two African countries, Algeria and Libya currently refine their crude oil without importing any drop of fuel, so, with Dangote Petrochemical Refinery coming on stream, Nigeria would NOT import a single drop of refined fuel from refineries abroad again. After meeting the local daily demand for refined fuel in Nigeria, Dangote Refinery would be able to supply many countries with refined fuel thereby earning FX from exports.
Omooba77: A former Minister of Youth and Sports and one-time Military Administrator of Benue State, Air Vice Marshal Adebayo Lawal (retd.), has died at the age of 83.
The retired military officer passed away in his sleep in the early hours of Sunday, June 23, 2024, at his home.
The news was confirmed by his daughter, Mrs. Yinka Enahoro, and corroborated by the Sergeant At Arms at the National Assembly, Air Commodore Sani Zakari (retd.).
Zakari stated, “AVM Frank Ajobena (retd.) further informed us that AVM Bayo Lawal passed on in his sleep at the early hours of Sunday, Jun 23, 2024.”
Born on September 14, 1941, in Offa, Kwara State, Lawal was a pioneer officer of the Nigerian Air Force, which he joined in 1963.
He received his training as a military pilot in West Germany, graduating in 1964.
Throughout his illustrious career, Lawal held numerous high-ranking positions within the NAF.
These included Commander of NAF Port Harcourt (1969-1970), Commander of Enugu Air Force Base (1970-72), and two stints as Commander of NAF Kano (1972-1973 and 1975-1977). He also served as Air Officer Commanding HQ Tactical Air Command NAF Makurdi from 1977 to 1978.
Described as “a very active and vibrant fighter pilot,” Lawal’s service to the nation extended beyond the military.
He was appointed Military Governor of Benue State in July 1978, a position he held until October 1979.
Later in his career, he served as the Federal Minister of Youth and Sports.
After retiring from active service, Lawal ventured into business and devoted himself to faith-based philanthropy.
He was known to be a devoted Muslim.
The funeral for AVM Lawal is scheduled for Monday, June 24, 2024.
He is survived by his wife, children, and grandchildren.
AVM 'Bayo Lawal originally from Offa in Kwara State was a pioneer Air Force officer from the early 1960s and one of the easily recognizable military officers from back in the day representing the Nigerian Air Force. AVM Emeka Omeruah as a former sports minister also comes to mind here.
He was indeed a brave jet fighter pilot. My condolences to the entire AVM 'Bayo Lawal Family.
OredoPikin: you have zero knowledge of Kano emirate
after the dead of Abdullahi Bayero dan Abbas, Muhammadu Sanusi I dan Bayero (the oldest son of Abdullahi Bayero dan Abbas) and Muhammad Inuwa dan Abbas (Abdullahi Bayero dan Abbas brother) contested for the throne. Muhammadu Sanusi I dan Bayero (the oldest son of Abdullahi Bayero dan Abbas) was chosen to be the Emir as at then when Muhammadu Sanusi I, was deposed and sent to exile in 1963, his uncle (Muhammad Inuwa dan Abbas) that contested the throne with him was chosen to continue, but the uncle died the same year. Ado Bayero (San Kano) dan Abdu Bayero (Muhammadu Sanusi I half brother, same father but different mother) was chosen as the Emir (normally it is was supposed to go to Muhammadu Sanusi I first son, Aminu Sanusi, who is the father of Lamido Sanusi) but rather they gave it to his half brother as at then. Aminu dan Ado Bayero is the second son of Ado Bayero (not even the first), the first son and crown prince is Sanusi Lamido Ado Bayero. meaning Aminu dan Ado Bayero is not supposed to even be an EMIR in the first place when his elder brother is still alive. secondly, Lamido Muhammadu Sanusi is the son of Aminu Sanusi (the crown prince that was bypassed and throne given to his uncle Ado Bayero in 1963) whatever kwankwanso did was to correct the mistake of 1963.
Anyways the throne has now lost its glory, politicians now use it to suit themselves and it all started in 1963 when Sir Ahmadu Bello (the Sardauna of Sokoto and the premier of the northern region) because of the power tussle between him and Muhammadu Sanusi I deposed him and instead of giving the throne to the crown prince, Aminu Sanusi(the father of Lamido Sanusi), he passed it to the brother of Muhammadu Sanusi I Ado Bayero, an uncle to Aminu Sanusi(the crown prince)
Your moniker has an Edo name as prefix but you write lucidly about the Kano Emirate's Fulani lineage like a Kanawa or someone who has lived there.
zebra: He should have also said that the creation of Jigawa state from Kano was also an assault on the culture of Kano state. If Jigawa state could be created out of Kano state, why can't other Emirates be created out of Kano Emirate, Sanusi?
ednut1: what do you mean by lies I just said i’m not Tunde Ednut. Egbami ke
The "Egbami ke" phrase really cracked me up here.
Tbh though, a significant number of NL folks initially thought you are Tunde Ednut and some still do. Indeed, you are both different folks living away from each other on both sides of the U.S. - Canada border. Ednut is just Tunde in reverse just like other Yoruba and even names from multiple languages can be funkified by reversing them.
OChimex: My honest opinion, first, I live in the US, Relocating at your age with your family to any foreign country will drive you crazy because of the change in everything especially work stress and bills, they are getting crazily expensive. US is all about starting on time and working your ass off smartly to build a career over the course of at least 10 years. No short cut in developed countries, it’s pure hard work and smartness and many years to build a career and start earning well. But with your family, it will be killing for you. At this point and age, the only way it will be justified is if you are seeking survival. With 20 million, you can invest hugely in something in Nigeria and still make a lot and when your family have a stable steady income, you can make a move first and settle and bring them over, but then it’s risky too because of your absence can cause a huge trouble in your family. Just make proper deep research about investing in Nigeria. But again, you will be overwhelmed moving to foreign land with kids and wife at your age.
If say you are not married, I for advise you to relocate and once you move, then package your self so well and try grab one oyinbo woman wey go help you settle and stabilize. I hate to say this too, walahi if you move here as a family man, you go see fine oyinbo women wey fine soteee you go dey regret why you moved here as a married man 😂
pansophist: I can understand why you're shocked. If you're used to the Nigerian system, it's difficult to comprehend that some places are actually better.
Yes, it's free. I'm a beneficiary. I studied for free for my bachelor degrees in Finland, and I went for an exchange program abroad where the school (the government actually) paid me 500 euros every month for my monthly upkeep.
All these freebies and I was not a citizen/European. EU/Finnish citizens even had more privileges than us, but as a Nigerian, I can't complain.
Now is it free? Well, I'll say it's paid for by tax, so technically it's not free. But I was a student, and other taxpayers paid for my studies. But purely from a tuition fee perspective, yes, it's free.
And you'll be living in the one of the wealthiest society on earth, that makes asokoro in Abuja looks like slum. Imagine up till now, I've never seen an electric wires/poles, everything is underground.
Where dogs are friendly, and not used as security guard. A place where dogs behave so civilised, they actually cross the road when the lights are green.
A place where Nigerian definition of success is a norm there. So expect an 18 year old boy/girl coming to clas in a 2020 Jeep, lives alone in a modern flat, and that's the culture.
You call professors by their name, not the sir/ma, you guys call your teachers in Nigeria. A place where you challenge your professor in class, and if you're right, he will appreciate your correct and apologise.
So sweet heart, please, try your best and enter, so the country will clean up all the baggage from your life, baggage that Nigeria gave to all its citizens
I find myself at a crucial crossroad in life and would greatly appreciate your valuable insights and diverse perspectives. I have worked diligently in a private organization for 15 years, managing to save up to N20 million. Additionally, I own a 3-bedroom apartment. and a few plots of land in three different states in Nigeria.
Current Situation: Recently, I was disengaged from my job, and this has prompted me to contemplate a major life decision. I am 45 years old, and my wife is 42 years old. Together, we have three children, two of whom are in secondary school. Contemplating Relocation: Given the circumstances, I have been seriously considering the possibility of relocating to another country with my family via study route. Two countries have caught my attention: the UK and Canada. I believe that I still have around 15 years of active career working life by the Grace of God, and I am open to exploring new opportunities abroad for the betterment of my family's future.
Reasoning: The motivation behind this move is to provide my children with a better education and quality of life while also embracing new experiences. However, I am fully aware that this is not without risks, as it would involve utilizing my lifetime savings and making a fresh start in a foreign land. Seeking Your Advice: I humbly seek your honest advice and opinions on this matter. Here are some key points to consider:
Family considerations: How will relocating impact my children's education and overall well-being?
Age and career transition: Is starting anew in a foreign country feasible, considering my age and accounting background as my profession?
Financial stability: Should I be concerned about using my savings for this move? What steps can I take to ensure financial security in a new country?
Visa and immigration: What are the challenges and best practices in obtaining permanent residency in the UK or Canada?
Job opportunities: How promising is the job market for accountants in these countries? Are there viable prospects for career growth?
Investment options: Alternatively, what investment opportunities in Nigeria can provide a stable income stream for my family?
Conclusion: I am deeply grateful for any advice, personal experiences, or suggestions you can provide. Your valuable insights will play a significant role in shaping this crucial decision for my family's future.
Thank you all for taking the time to read and respond to my post. Your support means a lot to me and will help me make an informed choice.
iwaeda: The Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, delved into the controversies surrounding his removal by the previous government and his subsequent reinstatement by the current administration on Saturday.
This is as he attributed it to the current administration’s recognition of the importance of traditional institutions in governance.
He reaffirmed his commitment to continuing his work on social reforms and supporting the welfare of Kano people.
However, he maintained that he was not afraid of being removed again and that he only wished that the Emirate should remain one.
The monarch disclosed this and many more in an interview with Saturday Sun.
He asserted that the current issues stem from divisions manufactured by the previous government of Abdullah Ganduje).
This is as he added that the people of Kano, a largely homogeneous society, never asked to be divided into new emirates.
When asked how he intended to manage the post-reinstatement crises, Sanusi said, “You ask about managing the fallout. You see, this was something created and manufactured by the previous government. The people of Kano never asked to be divided. In parts of this country, you have had emirates and kingdoms created, and you can understand that.
He said, “If you go to Kaduna State, at one time, you had everything under Zaria. But you had huge Christian minorities, different ethnic groups, and chiefdoms were created for them. It makes sense if they felt that they did not want to be under the emirate system or under what they saw as a self-denial system.
“But Kano is a largely homogeneous society. If you see the Christians in Kano, they are part of us. They don’t say they want to leave us. They’re not asking for a different system. Nobody. If you go to Tudun Wada, we have Christians. You go to Rano; we have Christians. We had an issue in Rogo. You may remember that there was an issue. People went and burnt the church. I went there, took out my own personal money, and rebuilt the church.
“So, we are one people. Nobody asked for new emirates. So, what we are dealing with is a situation where somebody divides us. And actually, when you create these things, some people get some privileges. They didn’t ask for it, but they’ve enjoyed it for four years.”
Sanusi asked how the people who have enjoyed what they do not deserve for years now will react.
He continued, “Now, when they lose it, it’s a problem. But the problem is not what has happened today. It is what happened four years ago. If it had not been done, we would not be in this situation today.
“We are one family; we are one people. Somebody comes and divides us up. Even in this family, he takes one emirate and gives it to a part of the family.
“Now, when people enjoy it for four years and you take it away from them, it becomes a problem.
“The Yolawa; the family of Madakin; the Jobawa; the family of the Makama. These are kingmakers. You now take two of the four kingmaker families, Madakin and Makama, and say they should go and report, not to Kano, but to an emirate that you created in Bichi. Something that was run by a village head who was a district head. How? You make a law and say, these are the kingmakers in Kano.
“We have had four traditional kingmakers in all our history. Because you like a particular individual, you just decided, as a governor, that we now have five kingmakers. Out of nowhere, you created a kingmaker position for an individual.”
The monarch further stated that the situation in Kano is not about him personally, but about Kano’s history and culture.
“You’re dealing with Kano. You’re not dealing with me. It’s not about me as a person. It’s about our history and our culture. How does he become a kingmaker? The other kingmakers, the other four, how did their families become kingmakers? When they went and waged the Jihad, when they came and risked their lives, and when they reached this agreement, those four chose the emir.
“We are not superior to them. We’re all part of the Jihad. And they agreed that, for peace, we don’t want to have three, four, or five ruling houses; we’ll allow you to produce the emir, but we will decide who becomes the emir. These are the four.
“So even in those emirates that they created, what they had done was destroy the people. But we who appoint them as district heads know the families from which we select the district head.
“I am making this point so you understand that this is not about me versus somebody. This was an entire assault on a system.
“Even if you want to do it, if it had been well motivated, if you sat down with us to discuss, with people of Rano or people of Gaya, if genuinely they say they wanted an Emirate and the government said we want to do an Emirate, there’s a way of doing it. You sit down, you look at the history. Okay, who are the ruling families? How do you do it? What is the process? And you do it in line with our custom and tradition,” the monarch enthused.
He also faulted the law to bring about creation.
“Kano Emirate was not created by the Nigerian Constitution. The Emirate existed before Nigeria.
“The Kano Emirate existed before the Sokoto Jihad. Even Uthman Danfodio did not create the Kano Emirate. The emirate was there. All that happened was that some of his disciples waged a Jihad and conquered Kano. But Kano was in existence.
“You will never find a law in the Nigerian Constitution or any law that created the Kano Emirate,” he declared.
Meanwhile, the monarch also explained why he did not challenge his removal in court.
He noted that this was due to his belief that being chosen as an Emir was God’s decision, and if God decided it was time to leave, so be it.
Answering the question, he said, “I didn’t challenge it for a number of reasons. I have told you that I don’t have a fundamental right to be an emir. I am one of hundreds of princes. God chose me.
“And if God says I should leave, for me, I take it that God knows better than me why I had to leave. Okay, let’s say I go to court.
“Let me even say this; I just got a letter that said I had been dethroned for insubordination. I had never been queried for insubordination. The details of the insubordination were not given. I had not been given any chance to defend myself.
“So, it was clear that the state and the federal governments had both decided that it was time for me to go. Okay?
“So, let’s even assume that the court said I should come back. Do you think I was looking forward to working with that government? Would I have been happy as an Emir in the last three years working with that government?”
For those who DON'T know, there was a bloody Civil War in Kano which lasted for 2 years from 1891 to 1892 in which there was a power tussle over who was to become the Fulani Amir of Kano. Alhassan Dantata who is Aliko Dangote's direct maternal great grand father was young then was captured along with his brother because they were Agalawas of Kano and the Agalawas (who where wealthy and renowned long-distance caravan traders who traded as far as Ghana and they were of Tuareg descent originally from modern Niger Republic) had aligned themselves with one of the Fulanis in the power struggle who eventually lost out and that is how Alhassan Dantata and his brother including other Agalawas were captured and became slaves but later regained their freedom before the final arrival of British Colonialism in Kano from after 1900.
I read all these excerpts in the biography of the wealthy businessman who passed on in the 1950s as the wealthiest man in Nigeria and West Africa. My point is that power tussles such as this led to the bloody Civil War in Kano back in the early 1890s among the Fulani ruling class of Kano and their supporters.
Second, SLS is a man that I like because of his worldview but I don't get it when he said in that interview the the Emirate had existed in Kano even before the Jihad. I'm also NOT aware of any Fulani-based Emirate that existed in Kano before that 1803 Jihad which off course included some Hausa some of who's leaders later condemned the hijack of the Jihad and the capturing of Hausas as slaves for sale which was a deviation from the primary objectives of Islamisation that they sought for.
Third, in one paragraph, Sanusi L. Sanusi was talking about Christians in Rano and in Kano State in general. Well, for CLARITY sake, SLS was NOT referring to all Christians in Kano (non-Hausas) as being one of them, he was INFACT referring to the indigenous Hausas or indigenes of Kano State who can be found in Southern Kano (Rano and others) who are practicing Christians. There are a few Maguzawas (Kano indigenous Hausa Religion adherants) as well in the majority Muslim Kano State. Before the Jihad of 1803, the majority of the peasants practiced the indigenous Hausa Religion, with the Hausa Sarkis and aristocrats being Muslims that also had some Fulani scholars employed in their palaces.
adamusuleiman1: Over 1,000 people were displaced as Delta State Government on Friday demolished hotels, schools among other buildings at the popular 74 Road and Anwai Road areas near Government House Asaba, the state capital.
The Chairman of the state Taskforce on Recovery of Government Lands, Mr Frank Omare, who led other members of committee during the demolition exercise, vowed to go after the land grabbers, who misled innocent citizens in buying government lands.
Omare said the property owners had enough notice since the last demolition at Musa Camp Asaba, warning all illegal occupants in government lands across the state to as a matter of urgency begin to evacuate their valuables as government was out to recover all lands belonging to it across the state.
He said, “We are still on the Asaba axis. We will go to Warri, Ughelli, Isoko, Agbor, Patani, Ibusa and other areas. We are coming to all those places because Governor Sheriff Oborevwori has directed that we recover all government lands across the state.
“From the beginning various government agencies told them the land belongs to the government but they refused since Kefas, Ibori, Uduaghan, Okowa and now it’s Sheriff Oborevwori’s administration.
“We are looking for the land grabbers and those community leaders who have misinformed and misled the less privileged in this state. How can you sell government land?
“A lot of them have run away but the government is coming after them because the suffering is too much as a result of greed of some people but we cannot fold our hands because government is government.
“It is not about Governor Sheriff Oborevwori or Chief Frank Omare but the defense of government policies. It is not targeted at anybody.
“Dear Deltans, ask well anywhere you are whether the property is on government land. Just remove your valuables because the government will soon get there.”
He said they have tendered government gazette and Certificate of Occupancy before the public and a person cannot have a counter Certificate of Occupancy.
Omare further described as mere propaganda the viral allegations that the government had given the property owners a year extension to regularise.
He noted that there were people in government collaborating with the land grabbers but “we also are dealing with them”.
