PHAYOL81: LAGOS already has plans for cable cars since FASHOLA administration but with other means of transportation still be incorporated into the system, that can and must wait. For now, it's BRT, metro trains, speedboats for waterways and monorail.
Succinctly stated... That's VERY true.
I read about the planned cable cars which were intended to connect areas on Victoria Island to Lagos Island. Former Governor Akinwunmi Ambode didn't get to kickstart the project and Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu had COVID-19 (which led to unprecedented global lockdowns) to contend with in his first term and that slowed down global logistics and infrastructural developments thereby leading to massive spikes in inflation and the cost of new construction works and infrastructural deployments.

The bolded is a FACT... Including X and some NL threads and the forgeries and falsifications of historical events started from secessionist Websites hosted online years ago from the late 1990s but rapidly grew from the early 2000s in the days of Massob and then Ipob (which grew out of Massob) in the early 2010s before the 2014 Presidential elections and NOT recently like you stated. I know all these because I have been visiting some of those propaganda-based Yahoo! CharleyBright: Hmmmm. Looking at the way bloggers and other miscreants are misusing the social media is one reason I am almost wanting to support to regulation of Social Media. The social Media is full of falsehoods and all manner of silly jokes and impersonations that calls for regulation. Useless criminals calling themselves bloggers and yeye content creators just concoct all manner of falsehood and put it online to mislead people while hoping to trend and make money. When u make money from deceit you are a criminal that should be sent to jail. I strongly recommend that all bloggers be registered and licenced. You put up false information online, your sorry useless arse will be sued to court and your license withdrawn.
Clearly, the text shows from its phrasing [viz. “... the group called ... Yoruba ...”] that this is a well-known pre-existing name.
Ahmad Baba didn’t name us, neither did he name any of the ten groups in that listing. • • • (2) Yes Ahmad Baba wrote “Mi’raj al-Su’ud”, but not in the year 1627 (in case that was assumed).
Rather, this specific essay was written in the year 1615 in response to some inquiries on enslaving black people.
The Arabic text of “Mi’raj al Su’ud” contains the precise year [and month] of its writing (in the Islamic/Hijri calendar obviously) as highlighted in the embedded folio below.
The highlight in this folio (which is simply the “verso” of the earlier attached folio) basically shows the wording (in translation): “[The year] one thousand and twenty four [of the Hijrah]”.
When converted from this Hijri “AH” calendar into the Gregorian “CE” calendar; the year 1024AH falls into the year 1615CE.
The well-known formula “G = 0.9692*H + 622” proves sufficiently useful for this conversion.
In the light of my above expositions from Ahmad Baba’s essay of the year 1615, the anachronism and contradiction of the Sultan Bello Coinage myth thus becomes very obvious.
For emphasis, the year 1615 (Ahmad Baba) comes before the year 1837 (Sultan Bello). Lol.
And the word “Yoruba” (as the group name for Yoruba-speaking peoples) has been in existence prior to Baba himself as has been observed in that essay.
What then is the word “Yarriba”, or “Yarba”, etc., and what is its connection with Sultan Bello??
Captain Hugh Clapperton who was an acquaintance of Sultan Bello of Sokoto informs us in his 1829 publication on this.
He noted that “Yarriba” is simply the Arab’s and the Hausa’s articulation of the evidently pre-existing name “Yoruba”. To quote Clapperton’s precise words, he writes:
“Having seen the whole of the baggage off, we started in the evening, and proceeded on our journey. We learned in fact that we were not now in the king of Badagry's territory, but in a district of Eyeo [Ọ̀yọ́], which is called Yarriba by the Arabs and people of Houssa, and that the name of the capital is called Katunga, and that it is thirty days' journey.”
~ Captain Hugh Clapperton; “Journal of a Second Expedition Into the Interior of Africa”; (1829), p. 4.
Furthermore, Bishop Samuel Ajayi Crowther also writing in the 1800s makes a note to this same foregoing effect when he writes as follows:
“European Travellers obtained the name Katanga from Hausa People. Yarriba, or Yaruba, is likewise the Hausa pronunciation: Yoruba would be more correct”.
~ Reverend Ajayi Crowther; “A Grammar of The Yoruba Language”; (1852), p. i. • • • In summary, the name “Yoruba” did not originate in the writings of Ahmad Baba in the 1600s. Neither, obviously, did it originate in the writings of Arabs and Hausa-Fulanis in the 1800s.
As has been seen in Ahmad Baba’s essay from the year 1615, the name “Yoruba” (in reference to the Yoruba-speaking group) predates the 1600s.
It is evidently our endonym from a long time ago. Don’t be fooled by modern day propaganda, people.
Cheers!

Succinctly stated.
This is VERY impressive. Thanks for your summations here and adding to the body of historical knowledge of Yoruba history from over the centuries.
Ihateniggov: Islam came to Oyo Empire in 14th century during the reign of Mansa Musa in Mali and subsequently conversion to Islam by some Yorubas. It was popularly called “Esin Imale” – religion brought by the Malian people...
However, some people erroneously translated “Esin Imale” as “hardened religion to practise”.
According to Akinjogbin (1971), Islam had come to the ancient Yoruba Kingdom of Oyo by the 14th century through trans-Saharan trade. The origin of the word ‘Yoruba’ has been traced to Arabic writers such as Ahmad Baba (1627 in his mi’raj al-su’ud)
And Muhammed Bello (1837 in his infaq al-maysur) both of whom were reported among the earliest to name the people in Oyo ‘Yoruba’, ‘yaruba’, ‘yarba’ at a time when they are still referring to themselves by their diverse ethnic identities (Ogunbiyi, 2003).
Yoruba people were earlier, before the advent of Islam, called “karo o ji re” while a lot of people were recognized by dialectal affiliation e.g Egba, Ijesa, Ife people etc.
The first mosque was built in Oyo-Ile in 1550. Islam was established in Iwo in 1655, spread to Iseyin in 1760, Saki in 1790, Osogbo in 1889 while Ibadan, Abeokuta, Ijebu-Ode, Ikirun and Ede knew about Islam before Fulani Jihad (Gbadamosi, 1978).
Islam came to Lagos in 18th century while the first mosque was built in 1774.
In Yoruba cultural analysis of Ifa divinity, every new born baby was taken to Ifa for future consultation popularly called “Ikosejaye”.
A new dimension to Ifa prediction was a strange corpus of Ifa called “Odu Imale” which was exclusively preserved for a new born baby that will later accepted and practised Islam (see Gbadamosi, 1978).
For instance, Oba Aliyu Oyewole (1795-1820), the seventh Akinrun of Ikirun was reported during “Ikosejaye” that he will practised Islam despite the fact that he was born into traditional belief.
Yet, the prediction came to pass and Islam became a well-known religion in Ikirun during his tenure so much so that he introduced Shariah Court in Ikirun just like Shariah was also practised in Ijebu-ode, Iwo, Iseyin among other places before colonial master cum missionary came in 1842 and abolished the Islamic judicial system.
The case of Ibadan during the reign of Iba Oluyole is also worth mentioning when Ifa predicted the coming of Muslim clerics and the warning that they should be honoured and accommodated.
It came to pass and the Ibadan Generalissimo, Aare Latoosa, during this time has problem of having a male child among his numerous wives.
Yet, Ifa directed him to seek divine intervention in the hands of Muslim clerics which he sought and his prayer was answered (Gbadamosi, 1978). He, therefore, became the first Muslim Oba in Ibadan. He compensated the clerics by building a Central Mosque beside his palace.
It is the replica of this “divine” assistance that led to the building of Central Mosques beside palaces in Yorubaland even within the premise of Ake palace in Egbaland. Islam revolutionized Yoruba socio-cultural evolution so much so that...
Yoruba were taught how to read and write by the Malian Muslim traders in Arabic language. Yoruba history, for the first time, was documented in Arabic language while child-naming conventions were borrowed from Islamic tradition.
The modes of dressing in cultural Yoruba were largely inherited from Muslims traders. Islamic tradition standardized the excessive polygamous marriage in Yoruba and curtailed the culture of mal-treating women as mere slaves and appendages.
Societal culture, like “Ojude-Oba” among others in Ijebu-Ode, were established after the legendary warrior, Balogun Kuku accepted Islam and became Muhammed Bello Kuku.

Bump.
This is largely correct historical evidence and consistent with what I have read over the last few decades. But Yoruba is a derivative of Oyo Oba in reference to the Oyo Empire.
weMUSTsayIT: See how my Yoruba brother dey defend Mohammed but you no fit lead prayer inside mosque for Kano 😁😁😁
Let me step into this convo to educate you.
Some of you just come online to talk trash and make highly dishonest and inciting posts here on NL just to taunt others.
First off, I'm aware that a Yoruba Imam has led the call to prayers in the major Sunni Kano mosque. INFACT Punch newspaper interviewed him once in a story that was published about 10 years ago, and he told the reporter about his Yoruba ancestry and his devotion to Islam.
I'm NOT a Muslim, but I know that in Nigeria, the major Islamic sects are the Sunnis, the Shiites, Ahmadiyas, Tijaniyya, Quadriya, Izalla, etc. I'm aware that Yorubas belong to all those Islamic sects or groups I have listed. So, you don't expect a Yoruba Imam who is an Ahmadiya or Shiite Muslim adherant to lead in prayer a congregation of Sunni Muslims. A Sunni Muslim of whatever ethnic group (Yorubas, Ebiras, Igalas, Nupes, Kanuri, Etsako in Edo North, etc) can surely lead others of let's say majority Hausa population of the same sect (Sunni or Shiite) if he is qualified like the Kano-based Yoruba Imam who I made reference to above.
Please get your FACTS right next time and you and other mainly Xtians MUST stop taunting Yorubas over this FAKE stories you all are circulating around about Hausas NOT allowing a Yoruba to lead a mosque in prayers or that Hausas see Yorubas as "fake" Moslems which is all a figment of your imaginations. Historically, Islam has been in Yorubaland for over 500 years (from the days of the great Oyo Empire which spanned from modern Nigeria, Benin Republic, and Togo) via long-distance trade contacts with the Mali Empire. The first mosque was built over 500 years ago in Yorubaland when even Uthman Danfodio's great grand parents had NOT yet been born. Period.
That's very brilliant. They were obviously tracked through the phones they stole from the Brigadier-General's house. The now late Brigadier-General is a high profile man and I knew they were gonna get these idiots very quickly when I first read the story of the murder on NL yesterday. These guys might not even be Nigerian citizens but immigrants from Niger of Mali.
The punishment for premeditated murder is death. They'll definitely get the capital punishment.
Karemarealty288: Chinese Investor Seizes Nigerian Govt Properties In UK
Two Nigerian properties located in the United Kingdom are on the verge of being taken over by a Chinese investor following an order granting the investor the right to enforce a $70 million investment treaty award against Nigeria.
The investor, Zhongshan Fucheng Industrial Investment, was granted final charging orders over two UK residential properties owned by the Nigerian government after the company also attached a £20 million debt relating to the high-profile P&ID case.
The Chinese firm secured this order on June 14 when Master Sullivan in the Commercial Court in London granted the orders in respect of two Liverpool properties estimated to be worth a combined £1.7 million.
According to the judge, the order was premised on the fact that the properties have been converted to commercial use outside Nigeria’s diplomatic or consular activities in the UK, stressing that enforcement of the order should prevail.
The high profile case was a gritty legal battle between Zhongshan represented before the court by Withers and barristers at 3VB, while Nigeria was represented by Squire Patton Boggs and a barrister at Atkin Chambers.
Sources said the underlying arbitration was in relation to a joint venture with Nigeria’s Ogun State to establish a free trade zone near Lagos in 2013. A Zhongshan subsidiary held a 60% stake in the project but Ogun terminated its participation three years later.
In 2021, a London-seated UNCITRAL tribunal chaired by Lord Neuberger including Matthew Gearing KC and Rotimi Oguneso SAN said Nigeria was guilty of expropriation and other breaches of the China-Nigeria bilateral investment treaty and ordered the country to to pay US$55.6 million plus interest and costs.
Nigeria in the same year put a challenge against the award in the Commercial Court on jurisdictional grounds. Nigeria’s position was that the arbitration clause in the BIT was invalid. But in later development, Nigeria withdrew the challenge before a hearing on Zhongshan’s application for security and security for costs was about to take place.
Mrs Justice Cockerill in the same court granted Zhongshan an ex parte enforcement order in December 2021, but Nigeria did not file againt this order within the 74-day deadline allowed by the law.
In July 2023, the Court of Appeal in London stopped Nigeria from bringing a late challenge to the enforcement order, stressing Cockerill’s provisional determination that state immunity did not apply had become final.
The investor reportedly got interim charging orders in June and August last year over the two properties in Liverpool, which are owned by the Nigerian government.
Nigeria’s efforts to dismiss these charging orders failed as Master Sullivan in her judgement, held that the properties are leased to residential tenants and that no “consular activities are actually taking place on the premises”.
She also dismissed Nigeria’s arguments that it had not been properly served with the interim charging order applications under the State Immunity Act and that Zhongshan had failed to give full and frank disclosure when seeking them.
Master Sullivan also dismissed Nigeria’s objection about parties bringing multiple enforcement action, saying that parties are “entitled to bring as many types of enforcement action as they see fit to recover their debt.” She noted that Nigeria had yet to pay any of the award and that the value of the properties represented a “small proportion of it”.
Timi Balogun of Squire Patton Boggs, counsel to Nigeria, said: “We respectfully disagree with the Master’s decision, which we believe somewhat brushes over complex public international law issues, including with respect to state immunity and the right of a foreign state’s High Commission to own and manage portfolios of fixed assets in England and Wales. We believe that such issues need to be weighed very carefully, and we intend to appeal this decision so that these complex and important issues can be considered by the higher courts.”
Zhongshan applied to enforce the award in Washington, DC in 2022. Last year, the DC district court rejected Nigeria’s motion to dismiss the action on sovereign immunity grounds. The state argued the China-Nigeria BIT was “quintessentially sovereign” and therefore the award did not arise from a commercial relationship between the parties. The DC district proceeding is stayed pending Nigeria’s appeal of the sovereign immunity decision.
Zhongshan has also taken enforcement measures in various other jurisdictions, including in Quebec, where it seeks conservatory seizure of a private jet; and in Belgium, where Nigeria is challenging attachments of properties.
In the British Virgin Islands, Zhongshan has obtained an interim attachment over a £20 million liability owed Nigeria by BVI-registered company Process & Industrial Development (P&ID) under an English Commercial Court ruling. The Chinese company withdrew an earlier application to attach the same liability in England.
The Commercial Court ordered P&ID to pay Nigeria £20 million in costs in December last year after upholding the state’s challenge to an US$11 billion award in favour of the company. Mr Justice Robin Knowles found the award was procured through false evidence, corrupt payments and improper retention of leaked documents.
At the time of filing this report yesterday, Nigeria’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs was yet to react to a message sent to it on this development.
The abandoned multimillion USD Ikere Gorge Dam in Oyo State that was initiated by the former President Shehu Shagari government in 1982 to provide hydroelectricity and clean water for agricultural irrigation and consumption for the Old Oyo State, Ogun State, Lagos State and generally all contiguous states should have been on that video lists of failed projects due to lack of sustainable funding all these years! The expensive imported equipment like turbines that were brought in from Germany were NEVER used and hence have become damaged.
The current goverment in Nigeria at the Federal level must finish this project that has embarrassingly NOT been completed since 1982 when I was younger in age... A whopping 42 years ago! A focus on other long abandoned projects around Nigeria would be better instead of initiating new replicas of existing abandoned projects. NO doubt, the very corrupt and ruthless military dictatorships in Nigeria from the Ibrahim Babangida years contributed a lot to these abandoned projects, but then, the ambitious Tinapa Resort and the Abuja CCTV projects (this rapidly fell into disuse after installation) were initiated by civilian governments under the PDP State and Federal administrations.
I must commend former President Buhari's go ernment though for identifying some abandoned projects located especially in the North and even completing and upgrading all the disused and abandoned national silos in all the regions of Nigeria.
Dapromzy333: The federal government has decided to sell three ageing presidential aircraft so as to gather funds to purchase a new one.
News360 Nigeria gathered reports that the decision will also reduce excessive spending on fleet maintenance for the aircraft which are currently unused.
The latest development comes as the House of Representatives Committee on National Security and Intelligence recommended the purchase of two new aircraft for President Bola Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima.
Despite the recommendation by lawmakers for the purchase of two new aircraft, officials say the government cannot afford it, and will instead use the sale proceeds to augment the cost of a new jet.
The sale of the three aircraft will reduce the number of jets in the presidential air fleet by half, from six aeroplanes and four helicopters to three.
The fleet, maintained by the Presidential Air Fleet (PAF), includes a Boeing 737 Boeing Business Jet (BBJ), a Gulfstream G550, a Gulfstream GV, two Falcon 7x, and one Challenger CL605.
However, insiders reveal that at least half of the fleet is unserviceable or failing, necessitating the need to dispose of the burdensome aircraft. The jets slated for sale are a Boeing 737 BBJ, a Gulfstream, and a Falcon 7x.
“We saw the report and recommendation by the lawmakers. But the truth of the matter is that we can not afford to buy two aircraft at a go, even though we are selling off others. The approval now is to find one whose cost is not too much that we can augment with what we raise from this sale,” a government insider said.
It is understood that the federal government has appointed JetHQ, a US-based airline marketer, to broker the sale. Proceeds from the sale will go towards procuring a new jet, for which a search is ongoing.
Although offers for the ageing aircraft have been received, it is yet to be sold.
“Yes, we have received two offers for the BBJ and one for the Falcon X. But the NSA insisted that we must press for a better deal instead of rushing to have a bad deal for the government,” a Presidential Air Force (PAF) official involved with the process said.
This was also confirmed by Zakari Mijinyawa, a spokesman for the National Security Adviser (NSA).
Note that the President’s BBJ aircraft has been undergoing maintenance since March. Recent incidents involving faulty aircraft have forced the President and Vice President to use commercial and chartered planes for their travel.

ogbiwa: This is the horrifying story of an aviation disaster that was narrowly averted in June 1990, when a wrongly-installed panel of the windscreen on British Airways Flight 5390 fell out, causing the plane’s cockpit to decompress and its captain to be pulled halfway out of the aircraft at over 17,000 feet.
BA 5390 left Birmingham Airport at 7.20am, heading for Malaga in Spain. At the controls were Captain Tim Lancaster, 42, and his co-pilot, 39-year-old Alastair Atchison, both experienced flyers, and their take-off was routine.
Less than 15 minutes into the flight, with the plane at 17,300 feet over Oxfordshire, there was a loud bang in the cockpit, and the windscreen on the captain’s side blew out from its mooring, causing immediate decompression.
Both pilots had loosened their harnesses, and Lancaster was forcefully pulled toward the open window by the rush of air. The whole top half of his body was dragged out of the plane, with only his legs remaining inside, caught on the flight controls.
Flight attendant Nigel Ogden, on the flight deck at the time, quickly grabbed hold of Lancaster’s belt, while the stricken captain was flung from side to side by powerful winds and began to lose consciousness in the thin air at that altitude.
Ogden, too, began to suffer from frostbite and exhaustion, and was relieved by chief steward John Heward and flight attendant Simon Rogers.
Lancaster’s head was now banging against the side of the cockpit, leading the crew to believe he had died. Fortunately they held onto him in fear that his body might get sucked into the plane’s engine.
Given permission for an emergency landing at Southampton Airport, Atchison brought the plane down safely as the crew hung on grimly to Lancaster. The pilot was discovered to be alive and was rushed to hospital as frightened passengers disembarked. The whole ordeal had lasted 22 minutes.
BA Flight 5390. The story
BA Flight 5390, a BAC One-Eleven, was carrying 81 passengers and six crew at the time of the incident.
When the window was blown out, the force of the air rushing out of the aperture caused the door of the flight deck to blow inwards and fall onto the plane’s controls. The throttle was forced open, meaning that the plane was accelerating as it began to lose altitude.
Heading downwards at 80 feet a second and with winds of -17C rushing around them, the crew were forced to cling onto the unconscious Lancaster, whose weight was made equivalent to 500lb due to the suction force of the air outside the plane.
Lancaster was treated for fractures to his right arm, left thumb and right wrist, as well as frostbite and shock. Remarkably, he returned to work within five months.
Flight attendant Nigel Ogden suffered a dislocated shoulder and frostbite to his face and eye. He returned to work after a break but suffered post-traumatic stress and took early retirement in 2001. No-one else involved in the incident was injured.
Accident investigators discovered that when the windscreen had been refitted to the plane the night before, the wrong bolts had been used to secure it; they were little more than half a millimetre too small, and had failed under intense air pressure.
The bolts had actually replaced other incorrect ones; the engineer, working under pressure and without reference to manuals, had simply replaced the old bolts with new ones on a like-for-like basis.
As a result of the incident, windscreens on British Airways planes are now secured by bolts on the inside of the plane, rather than the outside, putting them under even less pressure.
Weird facts Reconstructed cockpit image Plane aftermath showing how the window blew out Standing middle: Captain Lancaster. Squatting middle copilot Atchinson. Left Ogden and right Head Steward. Months after the incident.
Bump.
I can imagine... That must have been a truly hair-raising experience for the pilots and crew on board. But we'll keep flying till the end.
macphilip: You can no longer use your Binance, Kucoin or OKX to do Naira - USDT P2P trading on these platforms. As NGN is no longer listed on these crypto exchanges. But there are other methods you can use to still trade on these platforms and receive Naira payments to your bank account in Nigeria. One very good method to use is switching to USD as your currency of trading on these platforms and then receiving USD payments to your US bank accounts or domiciliary account in Nigeria. You can easily create a US bank account on popular fintech apps such as Geegpay, Grey.co, TransferWise, Payoneer etc. After you then receive your international wire transfer to your US bank account, you can then swap your USD to Naira on any of your preferred fintech app. The Naira would be credited instantly to your NGN wallet on the app at the current black-market rate. You can then withdraw Naira from your NGN wallet to your personal bank account in Nigeria. I hope this helps.
The guy once asked me for a ride to work. I thought they were married.
After giving him a ride twice, I asked what happened to their car and he said they repossessed it. Because they missed their monthly payments.
I advised them to get a older model car that they can pay of at once instead of buying the latest that they could not afford.
Like a month later, the guy came to ask me for cold water and I gave him. Same week he came to ask to charge his phone and I helped him. Then on Sunday of that week he came to knock on the door telling me that they told him his wife was in my apartment.
Brother, I don't even recognize your wife, come in and search she is not here oo. Don't let anyone play us against each other. He did search and found and found nothing.
I left for church and advised him to be patient and settle whatever was going on between him and his wife.
Na so I go church, leave my mom for house. I dey church I just see my phone dey ring. I went out of church and returned my mom's call. After I left, the guy saw knocked and when mummy did not open, broke down the door.
Weather it was to attack mummy or to search again I don't know. But she was able to sneak out through the back door and called neighbour's for help. They called police but by the time they arrived he had fled.
I had to go back home. Involved the apartment and demanded that they moved us to a vacant one that same day. They said it was Sunday it would be hard. I told them this guy will definitely come back.
They fixed the door, changed the locks. But as night fell, I no gree sleep. I knew he would come back. So I was just watching TV to stay awake. Around 2 am, I heard a car approaching and stopped. I peeped out the window and saw him and another guy in the car and heard him say " This niggar is watching TV. I'm gonna kill him this night.
My own OT of teenage years kicked in. I grabbed a knife, poured pepper in water and put off the light woke my mom in the other room, dialed 911 and was in the phone with them while waiting by the door.
He punched on the door kicked banged and screamed that I was going to die by his gun and i should come and open the door.
My own plan was simple, if you come in. I first blind you with pepper water turn back on the lights and stab your neck as many times possible then grab your gun put off the lights again and wait for the second guy in the car to come in.
Well after about 10 minutes of banging and shouting, the second guy told him that they should go that the cops will surely be on their way. He got back in the car and left.
Soon after the cops came about 6 of them and told me to open the door. I did with the knife still in my hand. Na so I dey hear " drop your weapon " with guns and flash lights in my face.
If they had not been calm and I was not talking to them as I opened the door they could easily have shot me thinking I was the intruder.
After every, they told me the guy was a drug dealer that was out from prison and was on parole and the woman was not his wife.
That she had got tired of him and moved out the apartment when he went to work. She had turned out the utilities. So their apartment had no lights,no gas and no water.
That explained why he needed to charge his phone, ask for cold water etc.
Some months later, they caught him and was asked if I want to press charges. I declined.
In retrospect I should have sued the apartment for negligence for not moving me out of the apartment that same day that I requested. Although we moved to another unit the next morning on Monday but we had to sleep in a hotel till morning.
I think the girlfriend was using me to taunt him. That's the only reason that I can think of for him to come after me.
Since then, I no dey too shine teeth with people or dey interested in knowing my neighbour's.
That was a hair-raising, out-of-body experience. What a close shave.
A significant number of Nigerians and Nigerian-Americans have lost their lives via multiple gunshots from car jackers, burglars, and more in the last 30 years in the U.S. A well-known 21-year-old contributor on Nairaland @bawomolo was shot dead just outside his home in Chicago on the night of November 29, 2010 while returning from his lectures as an engineering student. Olubusayo (Busayo) Awomolo was in the course of rounding off his master's program from UIC.
Better to be on guard and avoid the South Sides of U.S. cities (South Sides of Chicago, ATL, Houston, etc) as much as possible when looking for rental accomodation as new immigrants to the United States. Not all parts of U.S. cities are created equal but new folks don't realize or factor that in when searching for housing.
otipoju: All you have said here is nothing but the truth.
TBH, I minimize my interactions with many of them. Unless it's absolutely necessary I don't talk to you and don't smile unnecessarily.
There are plenty of psychos roaming around here. I almost got killed by my neighbor on 2016. Guy came to the door around 2 am. Thank goodness I was awake , had replaced the locks.
Immediately I noticed his precense, I put off all the lights and waited by the door in silence. As soon as he saw that I put out the lights, he knew I was waiting and was reluctant to break down the door like he did in the morning when I was not home and had gone to church.
Indeed... A lot of depressed folks and drug addicts around mainly those neighborhoods on the South Side.

Karemarealty288: Nigerian Boxer Dies After Being Shot Multiple Times By Neighbour In US
Before his death, Isiah was a neighbour to the accused and was an up-and-coming boxer.
The commencement of the hearing in the case of Nicholas Francis Xavier Giroux, 36, who shot dead a Nigerian boxer, is set for July 17.
He is charged with first-and-second-degree murder in the Nigerian, Isaiah Olugbemi's death.
Before his death, Isiah was a neighbour to the accused and was an up-and-coming boxer.
Nicolas who is said to have killed Isaiah will be held without bond, an Anne Arundel County judge decided on Thursday.
It would be recalled that Olugbemi was found shot multiple times Monday night in the area of Meadowmist Way and Stehlik Drive in Odenton.
Despite being rushed to Baltimore, he didn’t not survive the incident.
Detectives obtained video surveillance footage showing Giroux, walking directly to Olugbemi with a handgun before shooting him multiple times and fleeing the scene on foot, according to court documents.
According to the Police, Giroux confessed to the shooting on June 18.
Abraham Olugbemi, the victim's brother, was quoted as saying that Giroux was Isaiah Olugbemi's neighbour. He alleged Giroux threatened Isaiah Olugbemi at least two other times with a gun this year; once in January and a second time in June.
It was revealed that Giroux fired six to 14 shots at Olugbemi, paused and then fired at least three more times.
That 20-year-old boy should NEVER have been born in 2004 to that family tbh.
A near-similar scenario happened in Delta State where a boy who is already in the Uni and his uncle planned his kidnap but the professionalism of the police anti-kidnapping team in Delta State busted the gang. The story was posted here on NL within the last two weeks.

The "herd mentality" of lemmings.
Praying to the Sun God (or Sol Invictus) as an ancient pagan rite via social conditioning truly succeeded in the modern era most especially in the developing and underdeveloped regions of this planet.
I just watched the brief video. It makes NO sense for the Church leadership to restrict media coverage of an inferno that was already posted on the Internet. They had to do that in order to avoid embarrassments for the personal egos of the Church leadership since the last major fire outbreak occured in 2014 based on the video news report.
The raging inferno was successfully contained with NO human casualties. Kudos to the galant men and women of the Lagos State Fire Service. If the Church has the standard insurance cover, then they'll get indemnified.
Next time, proper fire threat assessments and regular fire drills must be carried out to prevent a repeat of this kind of ferocious fire incident. That's all that matters.
Instead of mining your skull to sell for 30k a piece they now sell the human beings whole for 50k
That's a cool 20k gain over their unenlightened brothers and sisters right there they are learning the business from igbos very well.
Modified :
Well, unfortunately some people have deemed it fit to point it out to me further down the thread that the culprit is actually an Igbo woman . . . sad, very sad 😔
This obviously means that the yoruba folks still MINE THE SKULLS of their victims for smaller pay they haven't learnt to demonstrate their understanding of the simple sanctity of life and ethics of better business by actually selling their victims live instead if killing and beheading them to sell the heads at a 20k loss 😢 after all the hassles and blood . . .
Sad . . . I was so happy for them for an instant, but . . .
I am genuinely ashamed at what the igbo woman did 😔
I NEVER wanted to post anything on this thread until I saw your highly misleading and irresponsible post!
You are a HIGHLY dishonest person here. What do you mean by that nonsense you wrote up there on Page 1 when it was CLEARLY stated that an Ibo woman committed that crime of kidnapping children in the West of Nigeria for sale? This ISN'T the first time that Ibos have been involved in kidnappings of children of many ethnic groups in Lagos State and other parts of Yorubaland, including the rest of Nigeria for SALE in especially the East of Nigeria. This has gone on since the 1990s and I remember a widely published 2003 criminal case of a diabolic Ibo woman from Anambra State who was a ritualist and operated a baby selling cartel in the Okota area of Isolo Kingdom. It was the current Senator Opeyemi Bamidele of Ekiti State who was a Commissioner in Lagos State that led a crack team of police officers and Odua People's Congress officials to arrest the woman. The diabolic powers she used to dissapear in her bedroom were neutralized through HIGHLY potent Ifa incantations before she appeared fully naked before the very eyes of Opeyemi Bamidele and the police instantly got her arrested. So, Ibos have been committing a lot of heinous crimes for decades in Lagos, Ogun and other Western Nigeria States and indeed all over Nigerian for decades including luxury bus and tanker hijackings, bank robberies, kidnappings and highway traffic robberies. I have studied global crime patterns for many years and I have all the evidence for the involvement of Ibos in these crimes. Even the FIRST ever case of kidnapping for ransom in Lagos State in 2009 was carried out by Ibo boys some of who were members of staff of the owner of Ifesinachi Transport (whose wife was kidnapped in the Maza Maza area of Lagos and taken to Iboland) while waiting for ransom to be paid. Fortunately, a crack team of police detectives got them arrested days later in the East of Nigeria in 2009.
I have more than 40 different media reports of ritual killings in all the 5 Ibo States East of River Niger as well with Web links CLEARLY showing that some Ibos are into ritual killings with recent occurrences in 2021, 2022 and 2023 and some of the Websites carrying stories of Ibo involvement in rituals are provided 4 as EVIDENCE here of instances of ritual killings and cannibalism in the Ibo areas so you should NOT be gloating about anything here while stupidly insulting Yoruba folks when your own ethnic people do that crazy ritual killings in Iboland as well. A national emergency has to be embarked upon to invoke the death penalty or capital punishments on anyone found getting involved in ritual murders or cannibalism or eating human beings for food! Period.
I've attached a relatively recent picture below of two males from Anambra State holding a fresh human head and you are stupidly talking of Yorubas involvement in a heinous crime committed by an insidious and dangerous Ibo woman right in Lagos State in order to try to minimized and DEFLECT her crime and the current ritual killings going in Iboland.
Below are past and recent 2022 newspaper links and on ritual killings in Isiala-Ngwa and Ihiala in Abia and Anambra states, and 2023 ritual killings in Anambra State, and a 2013 case of ritual killings in Enugu Ezike in Enugu State. There are many Weblinks (more than 40 recent ones) that I have of these ritual killings from all the 5 states in the South east and even in the other Northern and South of South states for years now.
=>https://allafrica.com/stories/201312110481.html Nigeria: Enugu Women Protest ritual Killings 11 Dec 2013 — Worried by the incessant ritual killings, especially of women in Enugu-Ezike in Igboeze-North Local Government Area of Enugu State...
The purpose of posting these links showing the many past and RECENT ritual killings in some of the 5 states of Iboland is to counter the baseless insults and falsehoods (that only the West has reported cases of rituals) by some uninformed and highly dishonest young Ibos on this thread and elsewhere. NOBODY should be demonized here because the vast number of folks of all ethnicities are good people. The death penalty must be applied in all cases where these criminal activities of baby factory, kidnappings, and ritual killings occur. Period.
INDOMIE9090: I hope they k111 the ip0b woman, she has brought the baby factory stuff to the west
"She has brought the baby factory stuff to the West... ?" Are you just hearing of the baby factory cartel being run by criminal elements among the Ibos around Nigeria? Even some Ibo children have been victims after being kidnapped from their unsuspecting parents by these "new Ibo tenants" who quickly pack out of the rented flats shared with other people (right in Lagos State and Ogun State) and taken to Iboland for sale for years now. Just simply use Google and it'll bring up many of the stories and horrendous crimes perpetrated by these people who have brains that are lower than that of lower animals.
I still remember the 2003 case of a baby factory in the Okota area of Isolo in Lagos being run by an Ibo woman from Anambra State who imported pregnant girls from the East and hid them under the cover of the FAKE orphanage she claimed to be running. The current Senator Opeyemi Bamidele (who was a Commissioner in Lagos State and a U.S-trained lawyer who returned from political exile with other pro-democrats), Festus Keyamo, and the OPC were involved in the baby factory case that made headlines for weeks in the major newspapers. It turned out that the Ibo woman was into human rituals as well and used diabolic powers to dissapear when several police and Intelligence agents stormed where she was staying. It was an Odua People's Congress (OPC) top gun in the Okota area whose spiritual powers via incantations detected that there was a human presence in the bedroom but all the police men including Senator Opeyemi Bamidele COULDN'T see her.The OPC man had to recite potent Ifa incantations to neutralize the diabolic charms she used to disappear and INSTANTLY the Ibo woman's naked body in the bedroom appeared to everybody. Opeyemi Bamidele told Journalists that he couldn't believe his eyes and that the woman was completely naked and she was on the floor with her two legs raised against the wall. She was that diabolic and if it wasn't because of the potent powers of the OPC man, she wouldn't have been arrested that day and she would have escaped! Senator Opeyemi Bamidele from Ekiti State is still alive and a current Senator, so he can corroborate what I posted here. Festus Keyamo too was incidentally the lawyer that represented that evil Ibo woman in court! In Nigeria law of course, you are innocent until proven guilty in court based on concrete evidence.
The stealing of children and baby factory thing being done by some male and female criminal elements among the Ibos in Lagos, Ogun, the North, the East, and other parts of Nigeria is NOT new. The several cases have been well reported in the media in the last 25 years but gained more momentum after the year 2000 in the West of Nigeria with a couple of Ibos stealing children and taking them for sale in the East of Nigeria.
Mom007: You can plant your own food. I will never stop shouting this. Yes you can't plant everything but you can plant some. I'm currently at an agricultural conference is Scotland now and we in Africa, na mouth naim we just get. We have not even started, in fact, we are not even in the race! Na private farms dey feed nation. Everything you buy, you will see 'proudly from Scottish farms', or 'supporting Scottish businesses' stamped on them. Government will never come and farm for you. Agricultural sector is the only sector that has the capacity to drive every other sector of the economy, ignore at your own peril. All these folks building hotels and filling stations upandan, can't you set up farms? Huge mechanised farms? Family owned business that will supply big supermarkets! I see cows wey be like elephant abi hippopotamus I silent. See livestock! Whereas, Our fulani are still busy using their lean hungry cows to cause nuisance and havoc upandan. Chai, who do us?
True that.
In the Western countries such as the United States, Canada, and the UK, organic urban farming within empty home spaces in form of small green houses, planting in pots and aquaponics have become the norm and some of the products grown (typically crops that grow from seeds to plant harvests within 4 months on average) are for personal consumption and the rest are sold at farmers' markets or select food stores. Folk don't have to depend on the big or commercial farms for everything.
The use of biotechnology-based seeds and more got from the research institutions would be the key for getting high yield crops. Ekiti State and a few other private individuals have dairy farms in Ogun State and the North where hybrid or crossbred cows produce milk for sale to the major milk manufacturers in Nigeria. I read online about four years ago that Aliko Dangote was gearing up to build a large dairy farm in the North to accommodate cow milk production from the Fulani herders and others to earn extra income. I don't know at what stage the dairy farm plan is NOW. This is originally meant to take away all those majorly Fulani herdsmen from roaming blindly around and constituting a major criminal nuisance to Nigerian small and commercial farmers' livelihoods.
dre11: The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) has warned Nigerians against the activities of some unauthorised websites harvesting people’s data
The websites are idfinder.com.ng, Verify.ng, championtech.com.ng, trustyonline.com, and anyverify.com.
The NIMC gave the warning in a statement signed by Kayode Adegoke, its head of corporate communications, on Saturday.
On June 20, Paradigm Initiative, a pan-African social enterprise, raised alarm over its discovery of the sale of national identification numbers (NINs), bank verification numbers (BVNs), and other personal data of Nigerians on a website for as low as N100.
According to the organisation, a website known as ‘AnyVerify.com.ng’ was discovered to be involved in the commercial distribution of personal and private data of Nigerians.
Paradigm Initiative added that several unauthorised websites are claiming to hold and provide access to sensitive personal and financial data of Nigerian citizens “for as little as 100 Naira”.
“This alarming development presents a major breach of the fundamental rights to privacy, a breach of data privacy rights, and poses significant risks to individuals and the national economy,” the firm said.
Reacting to the report, the commission said AnyVerify.com.ng and other aforementioned websites are data harvesters and unauthorised to access or manage sensitive data.
The agency also denied the exposure of sensitive data of Nigerians “as alleged and reported”.
“The commission, at this moment, assures the public that the data of Nigerians has not been compromised, and the Commission have not authorised any website or entity to sell or misuse the National Identification Number (NIN) amongst all the identities stated in the report,” NIMC said.
“NIMC urges the public to disregard any claims or services these websites offer and should not give their data as they are potentially fraudulent and data provided by the public on such websites are gathered and stored to build the data services they illegally provide.
“Consequently, the public should know that the commission has taken robust measures to safeguard the nation’s database from cyber threats- a secure, world-class, full-proof database is in place.
“The commission’s infrastructure meets the stringent ISO 27001:2013 information security management system standard, with annual recertification and strict compliance with the Nigerian Data Protection Law.”
NIMC also advised Nigerians to avoid giving their data to unauthorised and phishing sites, stressing that licensed partners or vendors are not authorised to scan or store NIN slips but to verify them through approved channels.
“This poses the danger of data harvesting and comprises individual data,” the commission added.
“The Commission reaffirms its commitment to upholding ethical standards in data protection in line with federal government directives and data privacy regulations.”
NIMC also said it is currently working closely with security operatives to apprehend elements masquerading as online vendors, and make them face the full wrath of the law.
The agency urged the public to remain vigilant against false information and rely on verified sources for accurate updates.
The Intelligence Agencies should have moved stealthily to get all the culprits behind this breach of sensitive personal data arrested.
This isn't the FIRST time that these reports of the National ID data breaches have manifested. It's been in the public domain even before the years 2023 and 2024!
KEVIND: Tajikistan, a Muslim-majority country, has banned the hijab and public Eid celebrations, declaring them foreign culture.
Tajikistan’s upper chamber of parliament has seconded the law banning hijabs, head coverings worn by many Muslim women.
The upper chamber also banned the celebrations of Eid-el-Fitr and Eid-el-Kabir, two major Islamic festivals in the country.
Tajikistan is a Muslim-majority country landlocked in Central Asia.
The Majlisi Milli, the country’s upper chamber of parliament, approved the bill on Wednesday, about two weeks after the lower chamber passed the bill.
Lawmakers said the hijabs are “alien garments” associated with Islamic extremists.
Penalties for offenders vary from 7,920 somonis (about 745 dollars) for individuals to 39,500 somonis (3,718 dollars) for legal entities.
Government officials and religious authorities face much higher fines of 54,000 somonis (5,083 dollars) and 57,600 somonis (5,422 dollars), respectively, if found guilty.
The Tajik authorities’ clampdown on the hijab began in 2007 when the education ministry banned both Islamic clothing and Western-style miniskirts for students.
The ban was extended to all public institutions, with some organisations demanding their staff and visitors remove their head scarves.
Local governments set up special task forces to enforce the unofficial ban, while police raided markets to detain “offenders.”
Earlier this month, the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organisation, condemned the ban.
The CAIR said the restrictions were a drawback in the global struggle against anti-Muslim bigotry.
For those who may NOT know, Tajikistan is a former member of the Soviet Union (USSR) of which Russia, Ukraine, Georgia, Armenia, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, Azerbaijan, etc, were members.
Legitbeauru: In a significant move to ease the burden of fuel costs, the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Ltd (NNPCL) has inaugurated a new Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) filling plant in Lagos. This development comes as a breath of fresh air for Nigerians, with the plant poised to service over 3,700 cars and 600 trucks daily, all converted to run on CNG—a much-needed alternative to the expensive petrol. Under President Tinubu's administration, there is a strong push to transition more Nigerians to CNG-powered vehicles, marking a significant shift in the country’s energy landscape.
Real Gist reports from Lagos, where the excitement is palpable as the new station opens its doors. Located in the bustling gas hub of Ilasamaja, the 5.2 million standard cubic feet plant is set to revolutionize refueling in the area. Kayode Opeifa, the executive director of the Centre for Sustainable Mobility/Access Development (MenSMAD), shared the community's enthusiasm, describing the facility as state-of-the-art with both a compression plant and dispensing outlet. This setup will not only allow CNG vehicle owners to refuel efficiently but also offer compressed gas in bottles or tubes for industrial use.
For many, the most compelling aspect of this new facility is the price point. CNG is being sold at approximately N200 per standard cubic foot for cars, taxis, and tricycles, and N260 per standard cubic meter for heavy commercial vehicles. This is a stark contrast to the soaring petrol prices, which have hit a staggering N650 per liter in Lagos and up to N2,000 per liter in northern Nigeria due to severe scarcity.
The relief and optimism among Nigerians are palpable as this new development promises not only economic benefits but also a more sustainable and affordable energy future.
