I earlier did a check from my sources. He's actually from Kogi State. I initially thought he could be a Yoruba, from Etsako in Edo North, or Kogi State (Ebira or Igala) based off of his name being Waidi.

FreeStuffsNG:
December 2024 the most outstanding defense command in Africa an accolade that underscored the effectiveness of his leadership.

His initiatives also contributed to crucial civil-military projects, including the construction of 30 two-bedroom Community Base Quarters and the organization of community engagement activities such as a Quranic recitation contest, which saw three participants sponsored for Hajj pilgrimage.

In addition to operational success, Major General Waidi Shuaibu undertook critical interventions like the timely installation of military-grade long-range surveillance cameras in key locations such as Monguno, Gajiram, and Kekeno, further enhancing battlefield awareness.

Following his accomplished tenure, Major General Waidi Shuaibu was succeeded by Major General Abdulsalam Enesi Abubakar as the 15th Theatre Commander of Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK). This strategic move has been widely welcomed within security and political circles, as Maj Gen Abubakar brings over a decade of extensive operational, command, and instructional experience. His illustrious career includes serving as Commander Sector 3 OPHK and Multi-National Joint Task Force in Monguno, GOC 7 Division/Commander Sector 1 OPHK Maiduguri, and GOC 3 Division/Commander Operation SAFE HAVEN.

Maj Gen Abubakar’s impressive military background reflects his expertise in offensive operations, community engagement, and infrastructure development—traits that are expected to further bolster the fight against insurgency. His previous roles have seen him successfully lead operations that neutralized high-profile terrorists and disrupted their supply chains, making him a formidable leader capable of steering the theatre toward stability. His advocacy for community involvement and humanitarian assistance underscores his holistic approach to counter-insurgency, which harmonizes military actions with civil development.

Given his extensive experience, Maj Gen Abubakar’s appointment marks an optimistic new chapter in Nigeria’s ongoing fight against terrorism in the North East. As he assumes command, there is cautious hope among stakeholders that his strategic vision and operational expertise will intensify efforts to restore lasting peace, rebuild communities, and secure the region for future generations.

In summary, Major General Waidi Shuaibu’s leadership has yielded remarkable operational successes and infrastructural progress, significantly weakening insurgent networks and delivering tangible peace dividends. His tenure laid the foundation for continued progress, and his successor, Major General Abdulsalam Enesi Abubakar, is expected to leverage his vast experience to accelerate these gains. As Nigeria remains committed to restoring peace in the North East, the leadership baton now passed to Maj Gen Abubakar symbolizes a renewed hope for victory against insurgency and a stable future for the region.

The coup plotters if any are deluded if they think a coup can be successful in nigeria again. Since the capital was moved from Lagos to Abuja no coup plot has been successful. Why? The way Abuja is set up it will almost impossible to overthrow a siting president in Aso rock. FCT is surrounded by atleast 4 states which having military formations. To overthrow a govt now you will need to take over all those formations and the presidential brigade lead by a col or lt col which is directly apointed by the president (ofcourse someone very loyal). Unless the coup is done by the presidential brigade itself which would be immediately countered by the defence hq. For a sucessful coup, you will have to have a perfect coordination between all these seperate formations. An almost impossible task.
The take over of power in the FCT from the interim government of Chief Ernest Sonekan by the highly corrupt military dictatorship of Sani Abacha and his military goons back in 1993 was certainly a coup.

You're WRONG. I remember full well that there were credible media reports of a coup plot back in the early 2000s during the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidency which led to major reorganizations in the military. A lot of Ibos were appointed into GEJ's government even way more than the Ijaws.

While it's true that Yoruba folks who are indigenous to either the South West and North Central of Nigeria have been appointed at the discretion of the Nigerian President 'Bola Tinubu, a lot of folks from other ethnic groups and regions have ALSO been appointed into top positions and agencies based off of the constitutional requirements. The FACT is that he has to work with people he knows deeply enough and NOT get sabotaged at this very sensitive point in Nigerian history after the [fuel subsidy removals and inflation's that followed triggering discomfort for a lot of folks on the street level but subsidies had to go to be replaced by the cheaper CNG fuel and more] by those he doesn't know very well who would be undermining his government while leaking sensitive official documents to the media and more.

The Nigerian President 'Bola Tinubu has just ONLY used 2 years and 4 months out of the total of 4 years in office and even BEFORE the end of 1 year in office, political irredentists largely of Fula origin and their satellites had started plotting how to remove him from office through some coalitions or alleged coup plot. On their part, Tinubu's government has to move faster to complete the ongoing construction of the CNG-fuel infrastructure so that much cheaper alternative fuel other than PMS can get to different parts of Nigeria besides Lagos, Edo, the FCT, etc. so as to further reduce the cost of living. Period.

PoliticsRe: Why We Must Emulate The Igbo In Regional Development by Konquest:
ariesbull:
Across Nigeria, regional development has taken varied forms, shaped by culture, history, and governance. In recent years, the South East region has stood out for its visible infrastructural renewal and the strong involvement of citizens in local development. From Enugu to Anambra, Abia to Imo, and Ebonyi, governors are building roads, schools, hospitals, and urban projects that reflect a shared vision for progress.

In contrast, the South West region, despite its rich history and intellectual leadership, appears to have slowed in regional development outside Lagos. States such as Oyo, Ogun, Osun, Ondo, and Ekiti are lagging behind in visible infrastructural growth, while many Yoruba people concentrate their attention on Lagos, often abandoning their ancestral towns and villages.

This imbalance calls for reflection — and a reawakening of the Yoruba spirit of collective progress.

1. The Igbo Model: Community as the Engine of Growth

The Igbo experience is a remarkable story of self-help, resilience, and communal investment. Decades of neglect from the federal center after the civil war birthed a deep culture of local empowerment. Through town unions, age grades, and diasporan associations, Igbo communities mobilize funds to:

Build rural roads, schools, and hospitals

Electrify villages and provide water projects

Sponsor scholarships and youth empowerment programs

This grassroots model has created a network of empowered localities, complementing the efforts of progressive governors like Charles Soludo (Anambra), Peter Mbah (Enugu), and Dave Umahi (Ebonyi, during his tenure).

The result is a balanced development pattern, where no single city dominates the region — every community is alive with visible evidence of progress.

2. The Yoruba Reality: Urban Concentration and Rural Neglect

Historically, the Yoruba region was a pioneer in organized governance and education. Under Chief Obafemi Awolowo, the Western Region built the first television station in Africa, the Cocoa House, and a strong public education system. However, after the fragmentation of the region into smaller states and decades of federal dependence, that collective vision weakened.

Today, Lagos has become the overwhelming focus of Yoruba identity and investment. While the city thrives as Nigeria’s commercial hub, other states languish.

Rural areas in Oyo, Osun, Ekiti, and Ogun suffer from poor infrastructure.

Young people migrate to Lagos or abroad, leaving villages depopulated.

Communal participation in development is minimal compared to the Igbo model.

This Lagos-centric mentality has produced a false sense of progress — where success is measured by how close one is to the city, not how strong one’s community is.

3. Why the Yoruba Must Learn from the Igbo

If the Yoruba region is to reclaim its place as a model of progress in Nigeria, it must relearn community-driven development. There are several lessons to take from the Igbo model:

1. Rebuild Communal Pride:
The Yoruba must reawaken the pride of their towns and villages. Development should not end at Lagos or Ibadan — it should reach Ilesa, Ogbomoso, Ijebu, Ikare, Ado-Ekiti, and every ancestral home.

2. Promote Town-Based Investment:
Wealthy Yoruba sons and daughters should emulate the Igbo elite who build schools, hospitals, and industries in their hometowns. A Yoruba billionaire’s worth should also be seen in what they bring back home.

3. Governors Should Compete in Infrastructure:
South East governors have shown that visible infrastructure strengthens public confidence. Yoruba governors must rise above political rhetoric and deliver tangible projects — roads, industrial parks, and modern educational institutions.

4. Revive Regional Cooperation:
The old Western Region thrived on coordinated planning. The South West Governors’ Forum must move beyond talk to real joint economic planning, like shared rail systems, agricultural zones, and power projects.

4. Reclaiming the Yoruba Development Ethos

The Yoruba have historically been visionaries — from Awolowo’s welfare state to Wole Soyinka’s intellectualism. But vision must translate into physical development.

To remain competitive in a rapidly changing Nigeria, the region must balance urban success with rural revival, echoing the communal strength the Igbo have long embodied.

If every Yoruba town had a small industrial cluster, a quality public school, a primary health center, and decent roads, the region’s migration pressure on Lagos would ease, and the Yoruba economy would expand exponentially.

The South East has demonstrated that development is not solely the duty of government — it is a shared responsibility rooted in community pride.
The Yoruba, once the pacesetters of regional progress, must rekindle that same spirit of collective advancement. The future of the South West depends not just on Lagos’s skyline, but on the strength, beauty, and functionality of every Yoruba village.

If the Yoruba people combine their famed intellect, organization, and resources with the Igbo spirit of communal development, the region will once again lead Nigeria in innovation, culture, and progress.

Mary Efiot
What is the original source of this suspicious article and who is this so-called Mary EFIOT? There's NO such name as EFIOT in the Yoruba language. I would have expected that a credible source and the real names of the writer are cited to remove any suspicion of of ethnic baiting here despite a few positives in the post.

NOW, contrary to what that post ABOVE largely suggests, I know full well that Yorubas such as the Ijebus of Lagos and Ogun States, Ondos of Ondo City, Ijesas of Osun State, even in parts of Ekiti State (where wealthy indigenes come from) and more lift one another up via communal ways of living, and the wealthy multimillionaires and billionaires among the Yoruba businessmen and businesswomen including other wealthy professionals ALWAYS give back to their individual communities instead of concentrating on living and investing in just Lagos, Abeokuta and Ibadan.

Moreover, Yorubas aren't the ONLY ones who migrated to Lagos, Ibadan, PH, and the FCT for a BETTER life but young people from other ethnicities have been doing that for decades even before the oil boom of the early 1970s where Lagos is seen as a mini-London of sorts.

Last but NOT least, NO doubt, Point #4 is already being worked upon by all the Governors of the Western Nigeria States but it would make far more meaning for deeper economic and regional integration if a quick referendum is done to bring ALL the Yoruba communities (Okuns) in Kogi State and the Yorubas in the 12 Yoruba LGAs out of the 16 LGAs of Kwara State (2 LGAs are Nupe while 2 LGAs belong to the United States-basef academic Farooq Kperogi's Bariba ethnic group). The Nupes in parts of Northern Kwara State can be merged with their Nupe kins across the river Niger in Niger State where the current Governor Bago is a Nupe guy (or create a new Nupe State for them). Same for other States where ethnic groups scattered in multiple multi-ethnic States can be merged together with their ethnic kins to prevent marginalization and for better harmony.
HealthRe: Ogun State’s Mental Health Crisis — Between Culture, Economy, Drugs, And The.... by Konquest: 3:55pm On Oct 24, 2025
aries.bull:

In October 2025, reports surfaced that about 10,000 people in Ogun State were treated for mental health conditions in just six months. The number stunned many, but for those living within the state’s bustling towns and rural communities, it confirmed what they already knew — that something deeper is troubling the collective soul of the Gateway State.

The issue is not just medical. It is cultural, economic, and increasingly spiritual. Beneath Ogun’s growing cities and expanding industries lies an uneasy mix of modern stress, drug dependence, and spiritual fear — a combination pushing many to the edge of sanity.

Cultural Weight: When Society Demands Perfection

Culturally, the people of Ogun — like much of Yorubaland — value resilience, success, and status. From early childhood, one is taught to “struggle and make it.” But in today’s hypercompetitive world, where Lagos’ energy spills into Ogun’s streets, the expectation to be successful, respected, and “settled” has become suffocating.

Those who fall short of these ideals often hide their pain, fearing gossip and ridicule. Depression is dismissed as “weakness,” anxiety as “overthinking,” and psychosis as “spiritual attack.” This silence, compounded by stigma, drives many into isolation — and eventually into breakdowns that society then labels as madness.

Economic Strain: Progress That Hurts

Economically, Ogun State is a paradox. It is home to some of Nigeria’s biggest factories and fastest-growing towns — yet unemployment, inflation, and inequality remain widespread.

The young graduates working as factory attendants, the mothers juggling petty trade and rising costs, the artisans losing customers to automation — all live under unrelenting pressure.

The gap between expectations and reality has become unbearable. The dream of success now feels like a trap, leading many to frustration, insomnia, and hopelessness. Poverty itself becomes a psychological burden, and when combined with social media’s false glamor, it fuels a quiet epidemic of low self-worth.

Narcotics and the New Escape

In the absence of coping systems, drugs have become the new therapists. Tramadol, codeine, loud, Colorado, and other synthetic substances circulate freely among youths in Sagamu, Ifo, Ijebu-Ode, and Abeokuta.

For a generation trapped between hustle and hunger, drugs offer a quick route to numbness — to forget pain, shame, or failure. But the cost is high: hallucinations, paranoia, and violent outbursts.

Health experts confirm a link between substance abuse and rising psychiatric admissions. Each month, hospitals record new cases of drug-induced psychosis — young men wandering the streets, muttering to unseen spirits; women losing touch with reality; families unable to explain how their children “suddenly went mad.”

Spiritual Dimensions: Madness, Rituals, and the Fear of Forces

In Yoruba tradition, the mind and spirit are inseparable. When a person “runs mad,” the first suspicion is often spiritual attack, not mental illness. Families consult prophets, herbalists, or traditional healers long before they visit hospitals.

But a new layer has emerged — the spiritual repercussions of desperation. The rise in ritual activities, especially among youths seeking “quick money,” has become a dark reflection of Ogun’s economic frustration.

Stories of “money rituals,” human sacrifice, and occult practices have grown more common — not because superstition is spreading, but because economic despair has made people gamble with their souls.

In many communities, traditional priests warn that these acts invite spiritual consequences — torment, paranoia, hallucination, or madness. Even for those not directly involved, the pervasive fear of “juju,” curses, or broken taboos deepens anxiety and fuels communal hysteria.

Thus, the crisis becomes a loop: economic stress leads to spiritual shortcuts; the rituals lead to guilt, fear, or spiritual backlash; and the mind, unable to bear the weight, collapses.

The Way Forward: Healing Mind, Body, and Spirit

If Ogun State is to reverse this rising tide of mental illness, it must recognize the problem as holistic — not just psychological but social, economic, and spiritual.

Recommended Steps:

1. Integrate Traditional and Modern Healing:
Build partnerships between psychiatrists, traditional healers, and faith leaders. Educate them to recognize clinical symptoms while respecting spiritual contexts.

2. Strengthen Economic Safety Nets:
Youth empowerment programs, job creation, and financial literacy initiatives should be expanded to address the root of frustration.

3. Drug Control and Rehabilitation:
Enforce stricter narcotics laws while establishing rehabilitation centers in each senatorial district.

4. Public Education and Cultural Reform:
Launch statewide campaigns to destigmatize mental illness. Use schools, markets, and media to change the narrative — mental health is not madness, it is health.

5. Spiritual Reawakening:
Religious and traditional institutions must shift focus from fear to healing — emphasizing forgiveness, hope, and moral reformation instead of rituals and retribution.

The Cry Beneath the Calm

The story of Ogun State is a warning to the nation. In the rush for modern progress, the human spirit is breaking under invisible weights. Culture demands strength, the economy breeds despair, and narcotics offer escape — while spirituality, once a source of comfort, is now distorted by fear and greed.

The result is a people living between worlds — physically present, mentally scattered, and spiritually exhausted.

Healing Ogun requires more than medicine. It requires compassion, economic justice, and cultural honesty. The state must not only build roads and industries but also rebuild minds and morals. For only a people whose spirits are whole can truly develop.

We are delighted to welcome the Stellar Steel Company Limited, a $450 million investment by Galaxy Group and RSIN Group from Fuzhou, Fujian Province, China, to Ogun State. This major industrial project is on course to commence operations by mid-2026 and will produce hot-rolled coil steel, iron steel doors, and gas cylinders, thereby contributing significantly to reducing Nigeria’s steel import bill.

During a courtesy visit to our office, the Vice Chairman of RSIN Group, Mr. You Xiaotan, affirmed that the project is progressing smoothly, with levelling and foundation works already completed. We appreciate this update and commend their commitment to delivering on schedule.

As a government, we remain committed to sustaining an environment that encourages industrial growth and foreign investment. Our recent sister-state partnership with Shandong Province continues to yield positive outcomes by attracting more Chinese investors who believe in the strength of Ogun State’s economy.

We reaffirm our support for Stellar Steel Company and other investors through efficient approval processes, issuance of Certificates of Occupancy, and facilitation of necessary waivers and incentives. Every new investment validates our resolve to keep Ogun State as Nigeria’s industrial capital, creating jobs, boosting productivity, and driving shared prosperity for our people.

The Rise of Ijaw Identity Under My Leadership

By General Ditari (Ditari Ijaw)

Under my leadership that is fast taking over in everything Ijaw, our culture must be honored and restored to its rightful place of pride. The Ijaw nation is vast, ancient, and powerful — a people whose influence stretches far beyond what many imagine.

Tompolo, Asari, Ateke, Goodluck Ebele Jonathan (GEJ), Omoyele Sowore, even Governor Fubara of Rivers and Governor Douye Diri of Bayelsa — they all know me. The name General Ditari or Ditari Ijaw has become a symbol of awakening among our people.

Many think the Igbos are larger than the Ijaw, but that is a misconception. The Ijaw nation spreads uninterrupted from Ore on the way to Lagos, all the way to Calabar — from Furupagha in Odigbo-Ore to Ibaka in Obolo-Oro, Calabar.

These are the Ijaws many do not know, yet they exist in their millions, carrying our heritage across regions.

Notable Ijaws You May Not Know

Nnamdi Azikiwe (Zikiowei):
Born to an Agbere father from present-day Sagbama LGA Bayelsa and an Onitsha mother. His father never lawfully married the mother, who took him to her place and added the name Nnamdi.
Despite the popularity of Nnamdi Azikiwe in Nigeria, Have you ever wondered why the name Azikiwe isn’t as common among the Igbos as Emeka or Okoro?

Damini Ebunoluwa Ogulu (Burna Boy):
His father hails from Ogbogolo Kingdom in Ahoada West, Rivers State — true Ijaw blood. His mother is Yoruba.

[s]Late Majekodunmi Fasheki (Majek Fashek):
A proud son of Odoni in Bayelsa State.[/s]

Omoyele Sowore:
From Apoi West Kingdom in Ondo State. The Apoi Kingdom is historically and culturally Ijaw.
There is also Apoi Kingdom in Southern Ijaw LGA of Bayelsa.
We call that one Apoi East to differentiate it from the other half in Ondo same Apoi.

Arogbo in Ondo is also in Bayelsa.
Same Gbaran.
Same sets of Communities.
Most Ijaw Kingdoms of Ondo, Edo, Delta have same names with the ones in Bayelsa.
Sowore himself knows his Ijaw roots well.

Dandizzy: Darius Tuwotamuno Isaiah from Opobo, same Community with Rivers State Governor is being mistaken for Igbo many at times.

The Ijaw story is deep and far-reaching. We are everywhere — in culture, politics, art, and leadership. Under my leadership, the Ijaw identity will no longer be hidden. It will be celebrated, honored, and recognized for what it truly is — the foundation of greatness in the Niger Delta and beyond.

General Ditari
(Ditari Ijaw) Movement for Cultural Reawakening.
Young man, there are some errors in your informative post which you have to ALWAYS fact-check.

First off, Majek Fashek is NOT an Ijaw BUT a Yoruba guy from Osun State born by a Bini-Edo woman from Edo State. So, Majek grew up in Benin City but is often associated with Edo indigenship. In REALITY he is paternally ALSO an indigene of Osun State just like Davido who is from Ede in Osun State. Majekodunmi Fasheke is his full name and his biological father was an academic (a high school principal of a prestigious Lagos high school back in the day).

Second, contrary to your claim, there are NO indigenous Ijaws in Ore in Ondo State, there are NO indigenous Ijaws in Lagos State, etc. I have been reading this FALSE claim of Ijaws being indigenous to Lagos since the early 2000s on Ijaw Websites. Only the Ijebus, Aworis, Ogus, and some subgroups of Yorubas of Egba descent are indigenous to Lagos State based of historical gazettes. There's no Pere or Amayanabo ruling any community in Lagos State. For the records, ONLY Obas assisted by their high chiefs are the natural rulers of the several DISTINCT communities in Lagos State.

Most of the Ijaws who settled in the Lagos area are just descendants of migrants or fishing communities from especially Bayelsa State. The brilliant veteran NTA newscaster Ruth Benemaisia who I have known on TV since the early 1980s speaks very fluent Yoruba having been born in Lagos State BUT she said her family are ORIGINALLY from Bayelsa State (where many Ijaw clans spread out or migrated from to other people's communities for fishing purposes in the Niger Delta. The Apoi, Arogbo and other Ijaw clans in Edo and Delta States for instance are largely from the Bayelsa area or Central Ijaw region like you correctly stated.

Isaac Boro did state in one of his popular books written in the 1960s [whose excerpts I read in a joint press release by the Itsekiris of Delta State, the Yorubas (Ilajes) of Ondo, and the Edos back in the 2000s over the rejection of the Toru Ebe State creation by Ijaws from their ancestral homelands] that Forcados in Delta State marked the final, outer boundary of Ijaw territory to the West of Nigeria.

Last but NOT least, Burns Boys biological mother (Bose Ogulu) who is a multilinguist is paternally from Edo State but her biological mother is Yoruba. The Iconic veteran music producer who worked with 'Fela Anikulapo-Kuti (Benson Idonije) is Bose Ogulu's biological father from the Owan area in Edo State. So, Bose Ogulu is part Edo and part Yoruba NOT full Yoruba like you claimed.

Omoyele Sowere has already stated at a political gathering in a video I saw in late 2024 that a lot of people mistake him for a Yoruba (because he has Yoruba names and his Kiribo community speaks Yoruba with some Ijoid influences in his community) BUT he identified himself as an Ijaw which is OK to set the records straight since the Apoi are in the same Ese Odo LGA of Ondo State with the Ilajes who they settled in the midst of years back.

While I did see some Ibos posting online comments supporting VDM's actions, there were other Ibos who where NOT HAPPY with him for EXPOSING "BL" and the others who sell overinflated imported China-made items and these are the ones VDM is referring to in his post for being bigots and for ethnic clannishness. FoodRe: Medroyal Food Hub Urges Nigeria To Embrace Food Sovereignty On World Food Day by Konquest: 9:24am On Oct 24, 2025
Victoreke55:
As the world commemorates World Food Day 2025, the CEO and Team Lead of MedRoyal Food Hub, Princess Akran Medeyonmi Dada, has urged Nigeria to go beyond the conventional quest for food security and begin to build a sustainable and integrated food sovereignty system. Speaking in Lagos, Princess Akran stressed that the nation’s agricultural potential can only be truly harnessed when Nigerians collectively decide how they want their food to be produced, processed, and consumed.

According to her, “Food sovereignty is not merely about having enough to eat; it is about owning our food systems. From the soil that nurtures our crops to the cultural identity expressed in our meals. Considering the agricultural dynamics of our great country, Nigerians deserve more than the abundance of food. We must define and defend how exactly we want our food from the farm to the table.”

The 2025 World Food Day theme, “Hand in Hand for Better Foods and a Better Future,” aligns with MedRoyal Food Hub’s long-standing commitment to promoting local agricultural value chains and traditional food systems that empower communities. Princess Akran noted that achieving this year’s goal requires political willingness and policy coherence across all levels of government to support smallholder farmers, local processors, and food entrepreneurs.

“Government at all levels must show genuine political will in harnessing our vast agricultural opportunities,” she said. “We cannot continue to rely on food importation when our local produce can feed the nation and sustain future generations. The time has come for us to prioritise homegrown policies that make farming profitable, food accessible, and nutrition culturally relevant.”

Expanding on the benefits of food sovereignty, Princess Akran explained that it promotes self-reliance, local economic development, and environmental sustainability. She added that when communities control their food systems, they preserve indigenous knowledge, encourage biodiversity, and reduce the carbon footprint associated with imported foods. “It’s also a matter of dignity and identity,” she said, “because what we eat tells the story of who we are and how we value our land and people.”

As part of MedRoyal’s advocacy, the CEO made a passionate case for “ẹwà agoin”, the traditional beans delicacy that remains a staple in many Nigerian households. “Ẹwà agoin is not just food; it is a heritage of resilience and nourishment,” she remarked. “It is high in protein, fibre, and essential minerals, yet deeply rooted in our culinary history. We need to make deliberate efforts to feature such meals more prominently in our daily menus, school feeding programmes, and public health campaigns.”

Princess Akran Medeyonmi Dada reaffirmed MedRoyal Food Hub’s commitment to working “hand in hand” with local farmers, food producers, and nutrition advocates to promote healthier and culturally grounded food systems. She called on Nigerians to take collective responsibility in shaping a food future that is inclusive, equitable, and proudly indigenous.

“When we achieve food sovereignty,” she concluded, “we do not only secure our plates, we secure our future.”

FoodRe: Bananas Are Actually Berries, While Strawberries Are Not by Konquest: 9:14am On Oct 24, 2025
RenewedHope001:
If you ever thought strawberries are berries and bananas are not — you’re not alone.
Almost everyone grew up believing that.
After all, strawberries have “berry” in their name, and bananas don’t.

But here’s the twist — science says the exact opposite!
Bananas are true berries, while strawberries are not.
Sounds crazy, right? Let’s find out why.

The Berry Mix-Up

In everyday language, we call any small, juicy fruit a “berry.”
Blueberries, raspberries, strawberries — they all seem like perfect examples.
But scientists don’t see it that way.

In botany (the science of plants), a berry isn’t defined by sweetness or size.
It’s defined by how the fruit grows and where the seeds are placed.

According to the rules of plant science, a true berry must come from a single flower with one ovary, and its seeds must be inside the flesh.

Now let’s see what that means.

Why Bananas Are Berries

A banana grows from a single flower that has one ovary — exactly what a botanical berry does.
If you slice a banana open, you’ll see tiny black seeds inside.
Those are real seeds (though they’re too small to plant).

That means, scientifically speaking, the banana checks all the right boxes —
1. It grows from one flower.
2. It has one ovary.
3. Its seeds are inside the fruit.

So yes — the humble banana is a true berry!

And it’s not alone.
Other surprising “berries” include tomatoes, kiwis, grapes, and even eggplants.
They all grow from one flower and have seeds
inside the flesh.

Why Strawberries Are Not Berries

Now, let’s talk about strawberries.
They might look like the perfect example of a berry — small, red, juicy, and sweet.
But here’s the thing: a strawberry doesn’t grow from just one ovary.

Each little bump on a strawberry’s surface — those tiny “seeds” — is actually a separate fruit, called an achene.
Inside each achene is a seed.

That means a strawberry is really a collection of many tiny fruits stuck together.
So, according to science, it’s not a berry at all!

It’s what botanists call an “aggregate fruit.”

So, What’s the Lesson Here?

Sometimes, things aren’t what they seem.
A banana may look ordinary, but it hides a scientific surprise.
A strawberry may wear the name “berry,” but it’s breaking all the berry rules!

It’s a fun reminder that nature doesn’t always follow our words — our words follow nature.

So, the next time you peel a banana or bite into a strawberry, you’ll know the secret:
The banana is the real berry in disguise,
and the strawberry is just pretending to be one!
Deep insights on the true classifications of bananas, strawberries and more.
FoodRe: How To Cook The Perfect Nigerian Coconut Rice (my Step-by-step Recipe) by Konquest: 9:02am On Oct 24, 2025
Careerscholar:
Hello, fellow Nairalanders and food lovers!

Abeg, let's be honest. How many times have you tried to make coconut rice and it came out... well, not quite right? Either the rice is soggy and sticks together, or it's bland and tasteless, or it just doesn't have that "party" taste we all love.

I stumbled upon a fantastic, super-detailed guide that solves all these problems, and I had to share the key tips and secrets with you guys here directly. This is the finished product we are all aiming for.

Okay, let's get into the details that make all the difference.

THE PERFECT INGREDIENT LIST
Getting it right starts here. No shortcuts!

The Rice: 4 cups Long-Grain Parboiled Rice (This type is your best friend for separate grains).
The Coconut: 2 cans (400ml each) Full-Fat Coconut Milk (Don't use "light" or "low-fat" o! The flavour is in the fat).
The Stock: 2-3 cups Chicken or Vegetable Stock (This is for that deep, savoury base). If using water, use 2-3 good quality stock cubes (Maggi/Knorr).

The Aromatics: 1 large Onion (finely chopped), 2-3 Scotch Bonnet Peppers/Ata Rodo (blended or minced).
The Spices: 1 tbsp Curry Powder, 1 tbsp Dried Thyme, 2-3 Bay Leaves.
The Flavour Bomb (My Secret Weapon!): 1/4 cup Ground Crayfish. Honestly, this is what gives it that authentic, umami depth.
Optional Add-ins: Smoked Prawns, Smoked Fish, Sweet Corn, Diced Carrots.
Now, just having the ingredients is not enough. The technique is where the magic happens.

MY TWO BIGGEST SECRETS FOR PERFECT RICE (Shared Here!)

I'm sharing two of my most important tips with you here directly:

1. The "Foil Seal" Trick (For Fluffy, Non-Soggy Rice)
This is the number one reason people's rice gets soggy at the bottom and hard at the top. After you add the rice to the pot and give it ONE good stir, do not just cover with the lid. Instead, cover the pot first with a layer of foil, crimping it around the edges to make a tight seal, THEN put the lid on tightly. This traps every single bit of steam, forcing the rice to cook perfectly and evenly. No more mush!

2. The "Whole Pepper" Trick (Flavour Without Fire!)
If you love the fruity taste of ata rodo (scotch bonnet) but don't want to burn your guests' tongues, here's what you do: Instead of blending all the peppers, just blend one. Then, add one or two whole, uncut peppers to the pot along with the liquid. As the rice cooks, it will perfume the entire dish with that beautiful scotch bonnet aroma without releasing all the intense heat. Just remember to remove them before serving!

These two tricks alone will change your coconut rice game, I promise.

Even you, you IQ is in the dustbin.

You don't even understand what a defense witness is!

Let me educate you.

A defense witness is an individual who testifies in court to support the defendant's case, offering evidence to counter the prosecution's claims or provide information that helps prove the defendant's innocence. This can include eyewitnesses, character witnesses, or expert witnesses who provide testimony relevant to the case.

Role of a defense witness
Provides testimony: Testifies under oath to tell the truth about events or facts relevant to the case.
Supports the defense: Offers evidence that helps the defense team build its case.
Offers firsthand knowledge: Can have direct knowledge of events related to the case.
Can be any type of witness: Includes eyewitnesses who saw the event, character witnesses who can attest to the defendant's good reputation, or expert witnesses who can provide specialized knowledge.

Examples of defense witnesses
Eyewitness: A person who was present at the scene and can provide an alibi for the defendant or contradict prosecution witnesses.

Character witness: A person who testifies about the defendant's good character, showing they are not the type of person who would commit the crime.

Expert witness: A professional, such as a forensic scientist or psychologist, who provides expert opinion on a matter relevant to the case, such as the reliability of evidence or the defendant's mental state.

At best some of these witness are hostile witness, 90% has no reason to be called, like the governor of Lagos and Imo, but of course he is an Instagram entertainer, he is doing publicity stunt, he will get more followers but he will not get a defense from this list.

My mom threw caution yo the wind and beat both the demon and devil out of my feeble body even after the person i touched her breast with my hand was begging my mom not to beat me.
So guy i understand what this woman did and YES this story is 100% true because it happened to me 😁😁😁
Just to correct you, If you read my post properly, you would have realized that I'm not a "young man" that you alluded to. I belong to the upper end of Generation X.

Second, you were just a 5-year-old and it's a good thing your mother gave you the smacking of your life as of that point for touching her friend's boobs. That would have remained imprinted in your psyche never to do that again. So I believe you did that boobs touching as a 5-year-old.

Third, however, the major thrust of this thread topic is on a supposed 7-year-old boy of Primary 2 age range touching another woman's breast in the presence of his own mother. I find that totally incredulous that a woman would wave off her 7-year-old son's behavior like that and allow him to repeat the same touching of a total stranger's boobs. Hence my doubts about the authenticity of the Facebook post by the supposed woman whose boobs were touched.

As of the ages of 6-7 years, myself and folks my age back in the 1970s were mature and wise enough NOT to engage in such irresponsible touching of boobs because there were consequences and we were already in primary school.

nope, not a brilliant point...

if the coastal road ever gets built, then the coastal road will spoil quickly due to high traffic, rain, accidents e.t.c..

if the above happens then the coastal road will become an eye-sore just like this one and with the Atlantic ocean right beside it, means the Atlantic ocean will get much more polluted than it already is...

which is the plan of the people giving Zinubu orders and telling him what to do...
The point @deji was making which I agreed with is that the Lagos-Calabar Coastal highway is made of strong reinforced concrete and would last longer than MOST conventional roads made of coal tar or whatever. There is a road spur that is now gonna connect Edo State to the main Lagos-Calabar Coastal highway because Edo State wasn't included originally. Ebonyi State too will have a road spur connecting it and the rest of the South East of Nigeria to the Lagos-Calabar Coastal highway as well in the Eastern flank.

Constructing the Lagos-Calabar Coastal highway doesn't stop the simultaneous construction of other highways and the man in charge of the Works Ministry will ensure it's done as long as pressure is piled on him via social media to act with a sense of urgency based on available funds.
