An Interview with Oba Alhaji Abdulazeez Adebayo Olateju, The Oba Yoruba in Enugu, Who settled in Enugu 46 years ago, in 1979
Excerpts: Interviewer: Where are you from, sir? Oba: I am from Ede, in Osun State.
Interviewer: You speak Igbo so fluently. Where did you learn it from? Oba (responding in Igbo): I learned the language here in Enugu. God gave me the gift of understanding languages and the ear to hear. Many people often wonder if I was born or schooled here, but that’s not the case. I was already an adult, fully grown when I relocated to Enugu from Osun. I even voted during the era of Jim Nwobodo and later for Shehu Shagari.
Interviewer: I also learned you speak Hausa. Did you learn it here too? Oba (replying in Hausa): Yes, I speak and understand Hausa fluently but I have never lived in the North. I picked it up here in Enugu, just by listening to people around me.
Oba: Everywhere I go in Igboland, people take me as one of their own. My grandmother who once tried to discourage me from settling here in Igboland but before she passed in 2012 was very happy and always thanking God for leading me to Igboland. I kept bringing all my relatives here and today they are all doing well because Igboland is good to us.
[quote author=DiamondsAreFore post=136939001]The 26-storey pig farm in Ezhou, Hubei Province, operational since October 2022, can house up to 650,000 pigs and slaughter 1.2 million annually, driven by China’s demand for pork, which accounts for 60% of global consumption, as per a 2023 FAO report.
This vertical farming innovation, managed by Hubei Zhongxin Kaiwei, uses controlled environments to optimize space and reduce disease risks, contrasting with traditional outdoor farming where African Swine Fever outbreaks killed 40% of China’s pig population in 2018-2019, per a 2020 study in Transboundary and Emerging Diseases.
Critics highlight welfare concerns, noting that confinement limits natural behaviors like movement, with a 2021 MDPI study showing caged pigs exhibit higher stress levels, raising ethical questions about scaling such systems globally.
Goldrosewine: No conspiracy here. It's all targeted at immigrants and people working extra hours than they are allowed to. UK don cast, Lekki, Banana Island, Eko Atlantic, etc have places far ahead of several cities in these so called first world countries. I said what I said 🤦
No quote me abeg, just reach out and let me handle your schedules.
The UK government has announced that digital identification will now be mandatory, stressing that individuals without a digital ID will not be able to work in the country.
Officials describe the move as a step toward modernization and improved security, though it has sparked debate among citizens and policy experts.
BenuePolitician: The remains of the elder statesman were interred in his country home, Efugo, Otukpa, at about 1:18pm amid tributes from political leaders and dignitaries across the country.
President Bola Tinubu on Friday called on the family of late former Minister of Agriculture, Chief Audu Ogbeh, to uphold the values that defined him as an exceptional Nigerian statesman.
Tinubu, who was represented by Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume, spoke during Ogbeh’s burial in Otukpa, Ogbadibo Local Government Area of Benue State.
The remains of the elder statesman were interred in his country home, Efugo, Otukpa, at about 1:18pm amid tributes from political leaders and dignitaries across the country.
Delivering the president’s testimonial titled “Contributions of Chief Audu Ogbeh to the Political Development of Nigeria”, Akume described Ogbeh as a humble, compassionate and unifying figure whose contributions to Nigeria’s political landscape would be remembered for generations.
“We equally remember him for his humility, compassion and generosity. He was a unifying personality who bridged divides and brought people together. His impact on Nigerian politics and society will be felt for generations to come,” Tinubu said.
The president acknowledged that Ogbeh’s death had left a vacuum in Nigeria’s political space but insisted that the legacies he left behind remained indelible.
Tinubu further said Ogbeh’s political journey cut across Nigeria’s dominant parties, noting his key roles in both the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the All Progressives Congress (APC).
“Chief Audu Ogbeh played significant roles in Nigerian politics, particularly in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). He was a founding member of the PDP and contributed significantly to Nigeria’s return to democracy in 1999. He served as the PDP’s National Chairman from 2001 to 2005, working to balance party dynamics and navigate complex national issues with reason and principle.
“Chief Ogbeh also played a critical role in the formation of the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) and its merger with the All Progressives Congress (APC). He joined the APC in 2015,” Tinubu stated.
The president added that beyond partisan politics, Ogbeh was remembered for his “integrity, intellectualism, and dedication to public service.”
“His dedication to Nigeria’s progress and development was unwavering,” he said, urging Nigerians to emulate his example of leadership and service.
Dignitaries at the burial included the Minister of Water Resources and Sanitation, Prof. Joseph Terlumun Utsev; Executive Secretary of the Nigerian Shippers Council, Barr. Pius Akutah; Executive Director of Housing Finance and Accounts, FHA, Dr. Mathias Byuan; Senator Titus Zam (Benue North-West); Deputy Governor of Benue State, Sam Ode; former Anambra governor, Chris Ngige; and former Benue deputy governor, Chief Steven Lawani, among others.
Exousiang01: This your comment goes along way to show how sick you are. So you think your hate for the president is universal? Do you even know who the dude is? You could have just prayed for the departed but your psychopathic tendency couldn't let you... If you so love him more than the man in the cap why were you not at the funeral? Why is he the one in the pictures and not you? #trash
You think Ogbeh doesn't have members of his family in APC?
Thats said Audu was a great MSG boy He was a great ambassador of Mount Saint Gabriel Secondary School Makurdi and as a fellow old boy I pray his soul rest in perfect peace
Your choice of words were apt in putting that sewer rat where he truly belongs. The insolence coming from him and his irresponsible ilk on this NL thread devoted to remembering Chief Audu Ogbe deserves robust actions to tackle these trolls and bigots permanently.
I read their authentic story from a credible source years back.
She is in reality an Ijaw woman who hails from Rivers States but she and 'Seyi Makinde met each other in Port Harcourt when he was working and living there as a young Engineer. However, if she also bears the name 'Remi, it means that her husband may have given her that name in addition to her already existing Ijaw names as well after marriage to show his love for her. Ijaws are a people of culture so they don't mind genuflecting or adapting to other people's cultures but will revolt strongly just like the Yoruba folks have done in past history for centuries when faced with injustice.
MCentral: A “nepo baby” is a colloquial term, often used to describe a person who has achieved success or fame in a particular field, due to having a famous parent or family connections, rather than solely on their own talent or hard work.
The term is short for “nepotism baby,” highlighting the perceived advantage gained from family connections.
The core idea behind the term is that a “nepo baby” benefits from their parents’ fame and connections, allowing them to bypass the usual challenges and competition in their chosen field.
While the term is often used negatively, some argue that “nepo babies” can also be talented and deserving of their success. However, the perception remains that their path to success was made easier by their family’s influence.
MoneyCentral compiled a list of 10 successful Nigerians with famous parents from North, South, East and West of the country.
Nigerian celebrities and business people with famous parents
Seyi Tinubu – Seyi, born on October 13, 1985, is the son of President Bola Tinubu, and is an entrepreneur and CEO of Loatsad Promomedia, an outdoor advertising company, and has built his own profile through business and philanthropy, including the Noella Foundation.
However, the establishment’s portrayal of Seyi as a self-made figure deserves scrutiny. His success is undeniably boosted by his father’s political clout—access to high-value contracts and networks that others lack.
Florence Otedola (DJ Cuppy) – Daughter of Femi Otedola, a billionaire with interests in power and oil. She’s a well-known DJ and philanthropist, bringing some visibility to the Otedola name.
Uzoma Dozie – Uzoma Dozie is the son of late Pascal Gabriel Dozie, a prominent Nigerian billionaire and founder of Diamond Bank, with a high net worth, derived from banking, telecom investments (e.g., MTN Nigeria), and other ventures.
Uzoma, born in London in 1969, followed his father’s footsteps in finance, serving as Group Managing Director and CEO of Diamond Bank until its 2019 merger with Access Bank. He later founded Sparkle, a digital microfinance bank, showcasing his own entrepreneurial streak.
Fatima Dangote – Daughter of Aliko Dangote, the richest man in Nigeria and Africa. She’s known to be involved in the family’s business interests and has a public presence tied to the Dangote Group.
Bella Disu – Daughter of Mike Adenuga, involved in Globacom’s operations and a prominent figure in the telecom giant’s leadership.
Khadija Indimi – Daughter of Mohammed Indimi, an oil magnate, known for her marriage to Mohammed Buhari, son of former and late Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari, linking wealth and political circles.
Tochi Wigwe – Otutochi (Tochi) Wigwe, daughter of the late Herbert Wigwe, is a 26-27-year-old figure known for emotional tributes to her father, a banking mogul who died in 2024. She’s tied to his legacy, including Wigwe University, and faces a contentious inheritance dispute with her grandfather and relatives, despite court rulings favoring her.
Abdulrazaq Isa Rabiu – Son of Nigerian Billionaire Abdul Samad Rabiu, associated with BUA Group’s business activities.
Joshua Gana – Joshua Gana is likely the son of Professor Jerry Gana, a notable Nigerian politician and academic who served as a minister under multiple administrations, including Information and Agriculture.
Joshua, born into this influential family, is a member-elect representing the Lavun, Mokwa, and Edati Federal Constituency of Niger State in the Nigerian House of Representatives, elected in 2023 on the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) platform.
His father’s prominence—once a Director at Sunti Sugar Company and a key figure in the Third Term Agenda under Obasanjo—suggests Joshua benefited from political networks, a common privilege in Nigeria’s elite circles.
Adamu Atiku Abubakar – Adamu is the son of Atiku Abubakar, a prominent Nigerian politician and businessman who served as Vice President from 1999 to 2007. Atiku, has a huge estimated fortune tied to oil, real estate, and political influence.
The term "Nepo or in full Nepotism" child is MOST disrespectful to a lot of these young people from wealthy families identified here because they too worked hard to get to where they are despite the financial and social influence of their fathers or parents.
It shows the level of deep envy a significant number of Nigerians harbor in their hearts towards the successes and wealthy status of others. On a larger scale though, envy is a global negative energy that's highly destructive. If you're the child of a wealthy and famous person and you don't have the financial literacy and social skills, you'll make a mess of your situation in life and NOT be able to take advantage of the opportunities your rich father or mother has. Period.
India has ALWAYS been a very conservative society so it's surprising that 7 in 10 Indian women engage in that. This is from an official Indian publication so it's largely legit.
Delegates walk out as Israel PM is about to deliver speech at #UNGA80
I ain't surprised. Most of the rest of the world from North America, Europe, Africa, Asia, Latin-America, the Caribbean, etc, are practically in full support of a Palestinian state.
I was in support of the actions that Israel took immediately after that heinous Hamas invasion of the Southern settlements of Israel until Israel too went overboard and started targeting and killing innocent people, aid workers and over 600 journalists have been killed in MOSTLY targeted attacks on them by the IDF.
This is one of the reasons why Israel Jewish citizens themselves went out in massive protest against their own Government led by Benjamin Netanyahu.
Charlchuks: Yeah they do..... But nairaland is way too insignificant and filled with tribal hatred for them to bother looking here
The international fraudster, Obinwanne Okeke (aka Invictus Obi) who pretended to be a legit entrepreneur BUT scammed several U.S.-based organizations of over USD 11 million along with his gang was eventually arrested by the FBI at the Dulles Airport while he was trying to escape from the United States to Nigeria in August 2019 based on the very incriminating things he posted right here on Nairaland because he (Obinwanne) has an NL account. The intelligence agencies use advanced software to crawl the Internet forums and input suspicious online activities in their central crime database. If you're coming into any airport, you will get flagged down and sent back to your country.
Two British friends got blacklisted by the United States for posting what was deemed inciting speech on X and faced deportation for saying innocently that they were going to have "a blast" in the U.S. while on holidays. That word "blast" on X was a red flag to the intelligence agencies in the U.S. hence both British men were flagged down.
So, it's NOT correct that they (FBI and other intelligence agencies) do NOT bother looking on NL (or even other major online platforms such as FB, X, YouTube, IG, and more). Even the Nigerian intelligence agencies are on NL gathering Intel.
BlackViper: In a joint U.S.-Mexican operation last month, authorities tracked down a cartel leader accused of running a gruesome infant trafficking ring in northern Mexico, according to senior intelligence officials.
Martha Alicia Mendez Aguilar, known as "La Diabla," (The She-Devil) was captured on Sept. 2 after officials say the leader of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel, referred to by the U.S. as CJNG, lured a handful of pregnant women — often in vulnerable or impoverished circumstances — to remote areas.
Once there, CJNG traffickers allegedly performed illegal cesarean operations on the women, killing the mothers and allegedly harvesting their organs postmortem, and placing newborns into illicit markets, according to senior intelligence officials. The infants were then sold to couples in the United States for as much as 250,000 pesos or roughly $14,000 each, according to the senior intelligence officials.
Mexican authorities were tipped off by intelligence provided by the National Counterterrorism Center, under the Office of the Director of National Intelligence. NCTC Director Joe Kent called the scheme an "example of what terrorist cartels will do to diversify their revenue streams and finance operations," in a statement provided to CBS News, crediting NCTC analysts with tracking Aguilar's patterns and locations, then coordinating with U.S. intelligence and Mexican partners on the ground.
Senior intelligence officials say the arrest involved support from the U.S. Marshals Service, FBI El Paso, Diplomatic Security Service and U.S. Customs and Border Protection, with Mexican law enforcement executing the operation alongside "Fiscalia Especializada en la Mujer" or the Special Prosecutor's Office for Women. Aguilar remains in Mexican custody, according to senior intelligence officials. The investigation into the alleged trafficking ring remains ongoing.
The case underscores Washington's intensified targeting of Mexican cartels in recent years.
In January, President Trump signed an executive order directing the State Department to designate cartels and transnational gangs as foreign terrorist organizations, or FTOs. The State Department in February announced the designation for eight gangs, including CJNG.
The capture of "La Diabla" marks an expansion in the application of U.S. counterterrorism policy, with intelligence elements like NCTC now actively applying counterterrorism capabilities to target not only narcotraffickers, but also human trafficking rings and terroristic violence by groups like CJNG, notorious for brutal tactics and control over swaths of Mexico's territory.
Under the new FTO framing, U.S. agencies wield more expansive tools, including intelligence, sanctions, and military support to track down the cartels and their affiliates, beyond reliance on traditional criminal prosecutions. Critics of the approach have warned of overreach and unintended consequences, while proponents argue that cartels increasingly function like hybrid terrorist groups to pick up territorial control and expand trafficking networks.
According to NCTC, U.S. intelligence has added over 21,000 cartel members and associates into their classified terrorist database, creating over 35,000 identities related to the newly designated foreign terrorist organizations. Last month, the agency stated that 6,525 terrorists have been denied entry into the United States since the beginning of the Trump administration. https://www.cbsnews.com/news/baby-trafficking-ringleader-cartel-la-diabla/
That vile woman looks like a Mestizo (mixed Mexican Spanish and Native Indian). If the death penalty won't be applying for her heinous crimes of baby trafficking, I hope she gets put away for life under 'hard labor." Period.
That's a really gross thing to do... Taking these infants away after murdering their economically and socially vulnerable biological mothers. These kids will NEVER get to know who their real parents or direct families are except there's a DNA database of Mexicans and/or Latinos which can be matched. It's just crazy what some insidious men and women doing to make quick and filthy money.
This is the same thing the "baby factory" and child trafficking notorious cartels headquartered in the South East of Nigeria (especially in Anambra and Imo States) have been doing for years and even operate this almost covertly outside the South East of Nigeria in places such as Edo, Lagos, Ogun, Rivers, and some Middle Belt and far-Northern States such as Kano. But fortunately, they keep getting caught in police sting operations. Children from several ethnic groups from Hausa, Yoruba, Ibo, Edo, etc, have been stolen and separated from the families by these SE child trafficking gangs and taken back to either Anambra and Imo States to be sold and these criminal gangs are most active in these two SE States.
I've always proposed the death sentence via hanging, electric chair, and lethal injections for these kinds of child stealing and child trafficking crimes including drug trafficking and more. The death penalty during the General Muhammadu Buhari-led military regime of 1984 to 1985 had the death penalty for hard drugs trafficking which led to the execution of 3 men (Bartholomew Owoh, Barnard Ogedegbe, and co) back in the early 1980s and I remember that led to a drop in drug trafficking cases through the airport or wherever. The IBB-led military dictatorship from 1985 to 1993 discontinued those executions. The advanced countries of Singapore, China, Saudi Arabia and Indonesia aren't stupid for having the death penalty in their legal system to serve as a deterant.
The past Omu of Okpanam, the late Martha Dunkwu made insightful historical comments right there in the video and ALSO CLEARLY affirmed the ethnic origins or ancestries of those from Delta North (Anioma) to be from Igala, Yoruba, Benin, Ibo East of river Niger. . Even the late Reverend Father Kinirum Osia from Obamkpa in Aniocha North LGA of Delta State ALSO CLEARLY stated the same FACTS about the DISTINCT ethnic origins of Anioma people as far as 2009/2010 in several interviews online and of which highly uninformed young posters from the South East of Nigeria castigated him BUT he NEVER relented in educating everyone.
So, these random online posters including the so-called king of Idumuje-Unor who in the interview with TVCs Nifemi Oguntoye gave the impression that Anioma is ethnically of monolithic origin are incorrect. Each community in that region of Delta State has it's distinct identity and history of migrations over the centuries. These are the kinds of unguided or careless comments caused by uninformed young posters and older irredentists that lead to wars. The Vanguard newspaper Editor too might be pushing an agenda by manipulating what the Obi of Idumuje-Unor said in the interview. I will have to see the real TVC video interview to assertain that he wasn't misquoted BECAUSE many people of Anioma know for a FACT that the people and communities of that area migrated or are from different ethnicities over the centuries from Igala, Bini, Esan, Yoruba in the Aniocha North LGA of the Enuani axis, Urhobos in the Ukwuani axis, Ibos East of river Niger, etc. That area was like a "mini-hub" for trading centuries back, so, it's impossible that an Anioma king would deny the different ethnic origins of the people of that area.
Well, a DevOps and Cloud computing scholarship I applied for a while back came through recently. Talk about keeping your options open.
I know it's a long term thing but I'm enjoying the little I have experienced. Guess that coding I've been running from eventually caught up with me. Gone through css , html , python before to a degree so it shouldn't be a problem. Already learning bash scripting.
Yamaga: I once lost funds moving stablecoins during peak congestion, slow speeds and high fees turned a simple transfer into a nightmare. That’s why Plasma caught my eye.
Plasma is a Layer 1 built for stablecoin payments: gasless USDT transfers via paymaster contracts, 1,000+ TPS, and sub-second finality. Backed by Founders Fund (Peter Thiel), Framework Ventures, and Bitfinex/Tether, it’s positioning as the “stablecoin chain.”
I’m farming XPL on Bitttget’s Candybomb & Launchpool because this feels like real infrastructure for Web3 payments, not just another chain.
