My own theory about these young guys having accidents are boiled down to 3 things.

1) Most of them don't know how to drive. They don't know traffic rules and can't even read road signs. Most just buy car and start driving.

2) Most of them are crack heads. They are mostly high on drugs most times. Imagine driving around high on drugs.

3) Alcohol is their second diet after food. Some of these deadly accidents happen after they just left clubs or bars.

It might not be entirely Juju after all, it might be them living a reckless life style.

grin

And no.. I won't try it again..anything above 140km/hr, I no dey do.

Whenever I see people doing such crazy speeds, I wonder whether they have given any thought to what might happen if the vehicle bursts a tyre at that speed, some critical suspension part like ball-joint fails, or some big animal runs into the road, or for some reason they have to do a quick swerve...

The quicker we realise that vehicles, no matter their age and how well maintained, can disastrously fail at any time, the better for us..

And the worst thing is that when tragedy befalls these people doing crazy speeds, they hardly die alone from their stupidity .. They almost always take other innocent road users, passers-by with them.
LMAO... Are you kiddin?

Multiple bedside alarm clocks would have woken you up on an important day like that.

140 km/hr is okay... Max 180 km/hr on a highway.

Hello there, friend! Thank you for the well wishes and I pray that 2023 will be the best year of your life
. wink

Your travel plans sound fantastic. I visited Havana in early 2018, not very long after the travel restrictions were loosened. While Cuba isn’t a country I plan on visiting again in the future, my trip there was sobering yet enjoyable.

I was aware of the difference in the amount of UK citizens who hold passports as compared to US citizens however I still attribute that to the size of the UK as compared to the US. The UK is 94,000 square miles while the US is 3.79 million square miles. UK citizens can travel around and through their country, seeing all there is to see in a year or less before wanting to see more. How long would it take for a US citizen to travel around the country and take in everything? grin

I’m an avid traveler who enjoys travel outside of the US borders (wouldn’t have it any other way) and you’re the same but I can kind of understand those who haven’t.
Hey 1stGenAmerican, "Alpha" here, I appreciate the positive thoughts and best wishes from you.

Yeah... This year is already poppin'! wink

Oh wow! It's great you touched down in Cuba just two years after Barack Obama's historic visit to Cuba in March 2016.
You must have had enough of real "Pina colada with Havana rum" while on vacation there... lol

Are you fluent in Spanish?

What do you mean by your trip being "sobering" yet "enjoyable?" ... did you encounter anything that had to do with the history of Cuba that shook you... [such as the side-effects of the embargo and travel bans on infrastructure]... any major culture shocks with reference to language differences or cultural etiquette?

I'm a BIG fan of Cuban music especially the Afro-Cuban varieties... as of today, I still listened to the music of "Orishas," Cuba's biggest rap/hip-hop group ever that specialized in mixing Cuban-Spanish with some Yoruba words to give a very exotic music style with Afro-Cuban musical instruments. That gave me a boost. lol

Last but not least, I see your point there in the bolded part of your comment. lol. The U.S. is "huge" in terms of landmass and it could take forever to explore everywhere, but just as you've stated, those who will explore other countries from the U.S. will do so... AND it's happening already with guys heading towards Latin American countries such as Dominican Republic, Brazil, Cuba, and more to tour historic sites and even stay for extended periods.

Talk to you later... Ciao! wink

So... I was bored after service and took a stroll to an eatery a bit far from my area. I was craving for this eatery's particular dish, special jollof and Fried rice but when I got there, they didn't have the special jollof. So I settled for rich jollof and special fried rice. Later stepped it down with a tiny cup of ice cream ( remember, I'm on a budget.). Last week (Christmas day) I got. a bigger bowl of ice cream for 1400 though this one here is tastier.

Foreign Affairs › Re: Extreme Winter Warmth Shatters Thousands Of Records In Europe by Konquest:
adamusuleiman3:
Thousands of daily and all-time monthly heat records have fallen in countries across Europe, with nearly a thousand of those records falling in Germany alone. Poland’s Institute of Meteorology and Water Management (IMGW) tweeted on Sunday that the heat blanketing the country is “an unprecedented situation.” Weather records have been falling across Europe at a disconcerting rate in the last few days, say meteorologists.

The warmest January day ever was recorded in at least eight European countries including Poland, Denmark, the Czech Republic, the Netherlands, Belarus, Lithuania and Latvia, according to data collated by Maximiliano Herrera, a climatologist who tracks extreme temperatures.

In Korbielów, Poland, the mercury hit 19C (66F) – a temperature the Silesian village is more used to in May, and 18C above the 1C annual average for January. In Javorník in the Czech Republic it was 19.6C, compared with an average of 3C for this time of year.

Temperatures in Vysokaje, Belarus, would normally hover around zero at this time of year. On Sunday they reached 16.4C, beating the country’s previous record January high by 4.5C.

Elsewhere on the continent, local records were broken at thousands of individual measuring stations, with nearly 950 toppled in Germany alone from 31 December to 2 January, Herrera said.

Northern Spain and the south of France basked in beach weather, with 24.9C in Bilbao, its hottest ever January day, and records broken at stations in Cantabria, Asturias and the Basque region. Only Norway, Britain, Ireland, Italy and the south-east Mediterranean posted no records.

“We can regard this as the most extreme event in European history,” Herrera said.

“The most worrying thing about this is that – such is the speed of global heating – it simply isn’t a surprise any longer,” he said. “It is a small glimpse of a future that will see winter reduced to a couple of months of dreary, damp, and mild weather, with little in the way of frost, ice or snow.”

Unless the industrialized countries who generate the most green house emissions take this with a sense of urgency, this planet will witness more global warmings! Period.

Yes! We're at the beginning of an annual cycle! [I'm using my older moniker to post this].

So, on the other hand, did you know that ONLY approximately 30 percent of Americans own travel passports compared to
approximately 70 percent in the UK? More U.S. citizens have to open their eyes to the unlimited opportunities beyond the U.S. borders and not be too insular. This time I wanted to switch it up a bit. I’m thinking about creating an easy DIY/”How To” 5 or 6 part video series on our K1 – Citizenship journey. We did it ourselves in 5 years, no attorney and with not one RFI (request for additional information).

Knowledge is power, and I’m a big advocate on not gatekeeping valuable information and sharing it with my peeps. Full disclosure, I’m not an attorney just a humble sista who enjoys reading, traveling and sharing valuable pearls of wisdom as we all navigate this thing called “life”!

What are your thoughts? Is this an outdated/repetitive topic on this forum or do you think it would be a value for someone to break it down in simple terms? Comment below and if this thread hits the front page, then I’ll take that as a YES…you’d like a fresh perspective and for me to create this content for you.

Last Friday, I hugged one of my most impressive colleagues goodbye. He turned away, sobbing. I turned away with voice quaking, realizing what a big loss he would be.

Later that evening, I had another get-together with a second friend who relocates this week. While discussing his massive expense, he suddenly slouched in his chair, stressfully squeezed the empty ragolis bottle in his hands and concluded:

"Oremi, this relocation has cost me almost everything"
"You don’t want to know!" He further sighed "You don’t."

Today, with the help and data from three (3) relocating friends, I compile the rough cost (below) for prospective relocating families (focus on UK) and a poem for my friend and Nigeria:

Cost of Japa from Nigeria for a family of 4= 180k
Renewal of Passport
Official rate 22k
Accelerated rate 45k
Some pay as high as 75k

Transcript 75k
Usually, one parent is a student
30-45k for school runs
25-30k to send

Estimated Tuition fee deposit
11,000-18,000-pound sterling
4.5m most schools want 50% deposit

Proof of fund (In deposit)
Family of 4 need 25m in deposited in an accoun 2-3 months

UK Visa 1.4m
Family of 4 pay 475-pound sterling

NHF
Family of 4 pay 875-pound sterling

Flight ticket 2.8m
Depending on booking
700k person x4
Some have booked as high as 1.2m

Arrival Accommodation 4.4m
1st Month shortlet 200-pound sterling per week
refundable deposit of 250 pound
First 6 months at 750 pounds

Total Cost 19m for family of four to UK not Canada or US. It can be cheaper or more

Oremi, I hope we meet again,
as you japa to find fresh grain,
to return if Nigeria again reigns?
God, will any leader ever end this drain?
But prayers will be in vain,
if in 2023, unwisely we vote again.

God bless everyone who has relocated. God bless everyone staying behind. God bless #Nigeria.

I love the fact that you have visited
Brazil. They are warm folks but things can head south fast if you are in the wrong hood or favelas of
Rio de Janeiro, Sao Paulo and other cities where unsuspecting visitors could be robbed or brutally shot.

The very strong retention of the cultures, languages, and religions in Salvador, State of Bahia, of the Yorubas (of Nigeria, Benin Republic, Togo and Benin), Angola and Congo due to the Trans-Atlantic deportation of Africans on slave schooners shows the triumph of the human spirit.

Additional Info, since some will inevitably ask, or wonder: WHAT DO I DO FOR A LIVING?

To preface, I'm not just "roughing it" out here. I have paid my dues in education, 9-5s and business. I have an undergrad degree in the US, and an MBA (Master of Business Administration) from a top Business School in the US. I worked many years in Telecoms, and always had a business going, in my 9-5 days. Small businesses in both the US and Nigeria. I have hired over 5 full time workers from right here on Nairaland, in the past, to work at physical business locations in Lagos and Abuja.

Nearly 10 years ago, I resigned my 9-5 in the US, to focus full time on my business. I have multiple things going, mostly online. I have several contracted projects with major companies like Google, Pinterest and a host of others. Typically providing Artificial Intelligence training services to them. Training the AI algorithms, not training humans. These companies have large budgets.

I own two traditional startups, and co-own one in Canada. I'd rather not get into the fine details of these things, but there's a lot you can all do for yourselves, if you are motivated enough. Even if you live in Nigeria.

After resigning my 9-5, I spent a few years just working at home, day in and day out, in my apartment in the US. Then one day, I realized I could do exactly what I'm doing in my apartment anywhere in the world. So why am I stuck in my apartment all day, most days? That's when I packed my stuff and hit the road. I'll rather work in airbnb apartments and houses all over the world, than just one in the US.

With that out of the way, back to the point of this thread, which is travel stuff, not how I can afford to travel long-term.

TRAVELING THE WORLD ISN'T ONE BIG VACATION

Traveling the world the way I do, for a very extended period of years isn't the same as a 2-week vacation. I'm not on vacation. I live my life in a very calm-paced way. I and my fiancee work at home, and whenever we feel like stepping outside, we're in a different country, and it's fun. Rinse and repeat in different countries. We're not permanently jumping around from one tourist attraction to another. No one has that time or energy. We're both very productive with our time.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This question might be too broad to provide a specific answer, since both regions are very large and diverse.

However, on average, the major Latin American countries are significantly more developed than the major African countries.

Both regions have countries with high poverty levels and insecurity. Africa has militias and terrorists. LatAm has militias and deadly cartel mafiosos.

Only countries like South Africa and maybe 1 or 2 North African countries are comparable to places like Panama, Brazil, Argentina and a few others. Sure, these major LatAm countries also have poor infrastructure and poverty outside the major cities. However, overall, they are significantly more developed, in the developed cities. Panama City, Sao Paulo and Buenos Aires are great cities.

I took the attached pics (in order of appearance) in:

Panama City, Panama - From a foot bridge over the road, at Avenida Balboa.
Sao Paulo, Brazil - My balcony view, around Avenida Paulista. The black glass building is CNN.
Rio de Janeiro, Brazil - Took this from atop a mountain. Rio has some of the most incredible views.
Buenos Aires, Argentina - My neighborhood in Buenos Aires. The obelisk is visible down the road.

how to buy a property in brazil.

how to get a loan in Brazil.

How to get your resident permit in brazil

how to set up a business and also register it in brazil and you would find a lot more in this book.

This book is written by an African living in Brazil and he talks about brazil from the real street level and in the book I also showed the side of Brazil that the western media would never talk about, This book is filled with first-hand experience from the author.

Many travelers to this golden city in the United Arab Emirates probably ask the question: Should women cover their hair? Or can women wear short dresses?

When visiting any country, you should respect its culture and follow its laws. Tourists could not be jailed if they were not properly dressed, as the guards advised them to dress. However, local people may face minor problems due to their behavior. So let's see what to wear in Dubai. Before the flight

What Should Women Wear When Traveling Alone To Dubai?
As a woman, especially if you are traveling alone at night, it is best to wear a traditional long dress as same as in the Abu Dhabi city tour.

What Kind Of Clothes Can You Wear In Water Parks And Public Beaches In Dubai?
The men's dress code is not that complicated. They can wear swimsuits at public and private beaches and water parks, except for white bottoms, because white swimsuits are transparent when they come out of the water. Please be aware of other people on the beach.

What To Wear On The Dubai Desert Safari?
Many travelers to the Golden City must try this desert safari tour to explore the Arabian desert. T-shirts, Kurtis, shorts, pants, capris, etc. However, summer is the hottest time in this golden city, while winter is hot at noon and cold at night, so sun protection is essential. However, please bring a shawl or light jacket at night. Also wear shoes or sandals according to your taste.

Dubai is one of the world's tourist destinations that houses some of the most spectacular attractions that have been admired by thousands of tourists. With so many great places to visit, tourists should think twice about where to start their journey to discover the beautiful attractions of this great city. However, one of Dubai's top attractions and most popular activities is the desert safari, where visitors can have a great time and enjoy unlimited fun. Business › Re: Is It Better To Build The House You Live In Or To Rent? by Konquest: 8:31pm On Dec 31, 2022
omonnakoda:
For most Nigerians who have lived in face me I slap you scenarios the answer would seem obvious

But let us try and think from a rich person's perspective

Of course "RICH" is relative but for this thread let us set the bar at $1 million in Nigeria assuming an exchange rate of 700.

Most Nigerians or many anyway would suggest the first thing you should do is buy a house or build a house.

You would find the same mentality with a lot of politicians who steal mony owning 20 ,30 40 houses/

So I want to analyse this from a purely business perspective

The starting point is the type of legal rental agreement . Tenants want security of their tenure and not subject to landlord waking one day and shifting the goalposts. It is possible to get a binding legal agreement so you can plan your life for the next 5-10 years without disturbance from your landlord. Now I am talking in the rental space of the guy with $1 million

He can rent very decent property for 1 million a year and that works out at 10 million for 10 years.
The argument against this would be you are putting money in the landlords pocket.

The reality is everyone has to live somewhere and even if it is your house it still has a COST

OPPORTUNITY COST of what you would have earned if you owned the house and rented it out .

That same house may cost you 100 million to build and if you live in it for 20 years it does not generate one kobo. Your only hope therefore is that the property appreciates in value but then even if it appreciates in value you still have to live somewhere

So that 100million is just tied down NOT WORKING

On the other hand if you had rented for 10 million and invested the 90 million in the stock market it is likely to have double over the 10 year period

Let us assume that the property doubles in price if you were living in it. You cannot sell it because you have to live somewhere

So there is a case to be made for even buying a 100 million house and continuing to live in rented accommodation e,g you may be a Landlord in Lekki whilst living in Ketu or Shomolu

The summary is owning property should be based on calculations

How much will it cost and how much is rent in the area

If you buy property for 100million in a 1 million a year rental market that is foolish and even more foolish is to then live in that house unless you are wealthy

$1 million dollar net worth is not wealthy you are just starting to hustle,

Any 100million property that does not generate 7 million rent a year is bad market

The other fear a lot of people have is if I do not tie something down (house) I will spend the money. This is a genuine and legitimate concern and there are solutions we can suggest investment strategies but we have seen people sell houses when calamities of life strike

The key thing to think about when putting your money anywhere is

how much will it generate each year

If you are clear in your mind about that you are on the right path. If you buy a house without addressing that question
Hmm
An impressive topic.

A new home owner can start off with building a well-designed 4-bedroom (all rooms ensuite) bungalow and then invest the rest in the financial markets, i.e., buy stocks of top FMG companies where you can get dividends or go for mutual funds, etc.

Then when more income flows in from those investments, build a duplex, triplex, mansion, whatever you desire.

It makes no sense to build your house, then head on to live in a rented house in the same city.

Berger and CCECC? They are not even on the same level, not even close. The media is making people really ignorant. China has one of best construction companies in the world.

CCECC built the stadium that was used for the FIFA World Cup 2022 final in Qatar
An impressive track record.

yes sir .

psalms 78 vs 49 He loosed on them his fierce anger— all his fury, rage, and hostility. He dispatched against them a band of destroying angels.

grin grin its all in the bible.
Great! Just to add here...

Well Sukkot, I don't take the bible OT literally. Divine Spirit is pure love... beyond space and time. So the references to a God of "anger," "fear" of God, "wrath" of God, "fierce" God, etc, does not resonate with me. These attributes in the bible Old Testament are negative forces which cannot be used to qualify Divine Spirit.

It was indeed the Persians that gave the ancient Israelites their religion derived from the Zoroastrian religion. Judaism is an imperfect copy of the Zoroastrian religion. The word Pharisee is derived from the word Parsee [which means Persia OR the modern-day Iran].

The Magis of course came from Persia and were astrologers and Priests of the Zoroastrian religion. I've done extensive readings and comparative studies on the origins of world religions since the 1980s so these facts have been in the public domain for all to gain access to.

If you read the story of Esther in the OT, you will see that her uncle was a cupbearer for the king of Persia. This is a dead giveaway that her uncle was a Magi. Only Magis served as cupbearers to the Persian Emperors. The bible OT bears a strong resemblance to the religion of Persian. Remember the Cyrus Cylinder has messages on it granting freedom by Cyrus the Great to all enslaved people in the former Babylonian Empire which transmuted to the Persian empire. You find the same charter of freedom in the OT bible as well.

The term "King of Kings" and Lord of Lords is derived from the Persian "Shah han Shah" which is the title of all Persian Emperors. I had to elucidate with some evidence linking the bible OT creation to the Persian colonial masters of the Israelites.

well for the most part these are just demonic entities. cosmic weapons. unleashed on the planet to create chaos and to bring judgements on peoples. most of them are zombies. the walking dead. its whats called unleashing the apocalytic zombies. and now they are just out here unleashing commotion as they should. but yes it is their past life karmic debt is why they are put in the role of an apocalyptic zombie in this lifetime and that karma would be cleansed in this lifetime. question now is will they accrue karma in this lifetime and take to the next ? wink
Very very deep Sukkot... So, in the grand scheme of things, Divine Spirit allowed this to take place for purification of all Souls?

oh brother the point here is not the age range. that is the age range they are now but that behavior will continue with them till they die. so in 20 years time the age range of these group would be 30 years to 44 years old. in 40 years the age range of this group would be 50 to 64. salute wink
OK then, I get it [i.e., the long-term behavior]... That's the karmic perspective, which could be passed on to the next incarnation if the karma is not resolved in this lifetime... lol

and so the 8th planet from the sun neptune represents the unleashing of dark demonic souls after the fall of righteousness and so this planet must be muted at all times if the world is to be righteous which obviously that is impossible to achieve because it can only be muted in certain houses. however the house in which it exhibits its full blown release of dark demonic energy ( occurs once in two lifetimes meaning every 170 years ) is in aquarius and when it is in aquarius is when all dark evil wicked emotionless egocentric sociopathic souls are released on earth. this articular period happened from december 1998 till january 2012 meaning that these people today would be in that age range of 10 years old to 24 years old. and so when you see people in this age range today its better to dine with them with a long spoon. they would be dark and emotionless and wicked and egocentric and sociopathic and demonic and all about self. examples would be aminu adamu ( happy that the christian girl got slaughtered ), chidinma ojukwu ( ataga case ), all these young yoruba guys who will cut your neck and use you for ritual so long as they can get money to enjoy their own life but dont care about your suffering, these young ipob and ugm guys and obi supporters who will obliterate you if your opinion differs from theirs, these south south guys cultists who will machete you on the streets of dubai , these young boko haram herdsmen etc etc.
and so if you identify someone in that age range today you dine with them with a long spoon if you want to be alive grin grin

I'm just finding the time to read this thread Sukkot.

Lol... It's funny though because the age range you stated [10 years to 24 years] is within the age when the human brain is NOT fully developed. The nerves in the pre-frontal cortex of the brain are still developing or still connecting till the age of 25 years, so you find a high rate of juvenile delinquency and peer-pressure among these kids and those in their twenties.

It's an interesting post though and it gives fresh perspectives as to what is going on among these younger ones and why there is so much hate speech online among them [which wasn't so intense when we joined NL in 2005/2006]... even the offline crimes you stated here have escalated and I just thought it had to do with an increase in global youth population worldwide.

An insightful thread. wink
