I've always thought you are a Muslim based on one of your posts years back... Interesting. I always like to respect the beliefs of others, no matter how neurotic they might seem. In international business etiquette, these are some of the things you have to learn so as not to lose a business deal or offend cultural and religious sensibilities worldwide. Anyways, have a great New Year ahead of you. |

etrange: I don't think presenting "non conforming" scholarly artifacts is tantamount to being stupid. I believe it depends on the origin of the painting and how she presented it. She's in the academia, so if there's a renowned painting in a reputable museum that a certain school of thought believe to be that of the prophet, it's the duty of a scholar to study it, document it and keep the record as "a painting claimed to be that of the prophet". This is regardless of whether she actually believes it herself or not. In some fields, you don't just teach your personal believes but other people's arguments too. After all, many religious people have been made to argue for and against the existence of God in philosophy classes. Our Christian teachers were forced to teach us Charles Darwin's theory of evolution even though they didn't believe it.
It's all a matter how the teacher presented it. If the school had problems with her, it's probably cause she categorically stated and probably insisted that was his real picture. Anyway, she wasn't sacked as reported by the OP. Her contract wasn't terminated. The school just refused to extend her contract (contract workers have thier contracts renewed after a period of 6 to 12 months if the employer still needs them). This will not reflect as a sack on her career profile, so she could easily get another job. Nicely put. |

OLAADEGBU: https://saharareporters.com/2023/01/09/us-professor-fired-showing-paintings-prophet-muhammad-students Yes, as a non-Muslim, I learned years ago that Muslims do not like paintings or statues to be made of their prophet and for their women to shake hands with men or even sit next to men in vehicles or places where there will be body contact. So that should be respected. However, the female Professor should not have been relieved of her job but simply told what she did was wrong in Islam. Now that it has blown open, I hope it doesn't lead to a fatwa on the black sis by radicals just like it happened in the past. There are many Somali-Americans in theMinessota area so the young lady in hijab who made the report must be one of them. |

Faiththatworks: I always make my bias very clear before I comment, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Sen Gov Kassim Shettima will be president of Nigeria by February 28 2023.
I don't understand why Seun Osewa should apologize for liking Brymo's tweet, enough of this emotional blackmail,it's very annoying whenever I read some of the comments on Nairaland.
They say those of us who will vote for Asiwaju in 2023 will show the number of mad people in Nigeria,Obi supporters should know that there will be over 10million mad people in this country by February 2023,e ti ri nkankan.
Brymo spoke nothing but the truth,Igbos will never lead Nigeria until they get their acts together, infact the Igbos should go back and have a 16 year plan on how they will produce a Nigerian president. I always shudder whenever I read comments especially about people voting for Asiwaju being mad, coming from a region where a man in Finland declares sit at home, while another one in a radio station in London was pressing their mumu button and cashing out big time from their mumuness.
Who's madder than the people that actually believe President Buhari was cloned and replaced with a clown called El-Jubril.
Seriously 2023 is the time to stop all these emotional threats, blackmail and put some people in their place in Nigeria. God bless Nigeria. Word! Tbh, Seun had NO need to apologize after liking Braimo's post. He also has been spending too much time posting on Twitter than even on NL according to posts made on NL by other users. NL is an international brand and should be his top priority including recruiting at least 2 more Mods to handle hate speech and fake news exclusively because the current Super Mods, and Mods have not been responding to repeated reports of rule 19, 2,3,and 9 violations. The Mods are either complacent or just overwhelmed and they need a jolt! There are posts on NL that I do not agree with but I click the like button so that I can easily find them again a day or two later, and then I unlike the posts after reading them or reporting any hate speech to the Mods.Seun and my younger brother (who has a Phd, and is the last born of my siblings) are both of the same 41 years of age as of 2023. I will advice Seun like a younger bruv of mine never to patronize Ibos again in such a manner that he did. It would have been better to restrain himself. You owe nobody any apologies Seun knowing full well they've never liked you and this is evident in the emotional blackmail he got on Twitter, NL and other platforms. Period. APC and PDP already have paid-for banner ads on NL, the Labor guys have not placed any yet but are busy derailing threads and advertizing (for free with a lot of hate speech, defamation, and ethnic bigotry) their party posts where they should not. |

AyeMoJuba: The Odds Favors Tinubu To Win The 2023 Presidential Election
For those running around focusing on Tinubu’s age, certificates, alleged ill-health, bublubla and Muslim-Muslim ticket, that is an ineffective political tactic.
Here is Atiku’s challenge.
It is in the numbers!
The same applies to Peter Obi or Kwankwanso.
Below are 14 Northern states with APC governors.
Which one do you think Atiku's PDP, or Kwankwanso's NNPP or Peter Obi's Labour Party will win?
1. Borno state: Babagane Zulum 2. Gombe state: Inuwa Yahaya 3. Jigawa state: Badaru Mohammed 4. Kaduna state: Nasir El Rufai 5. Kano state: Umar Ganduje 6. Katsina state: Aminu Masari 7. Kwara state: Yahaya Bello 8. Nasarawa state: Abdulahi Sule 9. Niger state: Abubakar Bello 10. Plateau state: Simon Lalong 11. Zamfara state: Bello Matawalle 12. Kebbi state: Atiku Bagudu 13. Yobe state: Mai Mala Buni 14. Kogi State: Yaya Bello
At the Eagle Square in Abuja, 13 of them campaigned for and got Tinubu elected as the Presidential flagbearer of the APC.
Today, all these governors, including Yaya Bello of Kogi State are supporting Tinubu and there is no crack, in their ranks.
Not a single crack!
Can Atiku or Kwankwanso or Obi peel away any of these governors?
Can any of these opposition candidates win any of these states without the governor's support?
For emphasis I have also included the south-western states under APC control or in Tinubu’s electoral basket: The South-Western APC state are: 1. Lagos: Sanwo-Olu 2. Ekiti: Abiodun Oyebanji 3. Ogun: Dapo Abiodun 4. Ondo: Rotimi Akeredolu 5. Osun 6. Oyo
Which of these states can Atiku or Kwankwanso or Obi win?
To complicate Atiku’s path to victory is the enthusiasm being generated mostly in some southern cities for Peter Obi's Candidacy.
In the south, the PDP is mostly dominant in the South South and South East.
Even 3 of the governors in these states are APC!
In 2015, the APC won mainly because all the opposition political parties merged and formed a formidable political platform whereas the ruling PDP was enmeshed in an intractable crisis and a political war of attrition with at least 5 sitting governors, the Senate President, Speaker of the House of Representatives, several senators and House of Representatives members including serving Ministers leaving the party.
The exact reverse scenario is playing out in 2023.
The APC is intact but the opposition is sinking deeper into opposition and is fragmented with Peter Obi and Rabiu Kwankwanso leaving the PDP.
The PDP G-5 governors have crossed the rubicon and will not be supporting Atiku’s candidacy in the presidential election.
They are expected to declare their support for either Tinubu or less likely Peter Obi in the coming days.
This will be fatal to Atiku’s chances and unlikely to shore up Peter Obi's chances in any significant manner.
Until we see a crack in the APC governor's support, Tinubu is sitting pretty well and the odds are clearly in his favour to win.
The opponents of the APC Candidate say the Buhari administration has not done well but this is vehemently contested by APC party stalwarts who insisted that Buhari is the best thing to happen to Nigeria.
Will this count during the 2023 Presidential election?
The answer so far is No using Ekiti Governor election as a barometer, even though it is a very small sample size.
Even the Osun election was won by PDP simply because Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola and his faction of the APC are alleged to have worked against the candidate of the APC.
Those opposed to Tinubu, rather than hold him to a campaign of issues are wasting their time with his age, alleged ill-health, his Muslim choice as running mate etc. They even want the courts and INEC to disqualify Tinubu. None of these will work or even happen!
Indeed, Tinubu has so far campaigned more hungrily and more comprehensively than any of his challengers.
From the UK to Saudi Arabia, then Kano and Edo states and then back to Kano...all in 4 days! On monday, 9th January, he will be in Adamawa state with President Muhammadu Buhari leading the charge for votes in the state and other core northern states in quick succession putting a lie to the claim by the PDP that Buhari has vowed not to join the Asiwaju campaign train.
The supposedly fitter candidates are all lagging behind Asiwaju.
The only way to defeat Tinubu will be at the ballot by all the opposition candidates stepping down for only one of them but this will also never happen.
Tinubu is still in pole position for now and coasting to victory.
Atiku lacks the bite... majority of southerners are also unlikely to stomach a potential 16 years of a northerner presidency.
In a very commendable display of statesmanship, patriotism and to guarantee national cohesion stability, the political leaders of Northern Nigeria also desire to respect the North-South power rotation on which plank President Goodluck Jonathan was defeated in the North and then eventually nationally in 2015.
It is almost late in the day to upstage the entrenched political system in Nigeria and by the current political and electoral system and in a free and fair contest, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu appears unstoppable and a Jagaban presidency looms large.

Wickedfact: PDP was in power for donkey years but they couldn't investigate the killers of their own Lagos Guber candidate.
This Obasanjo supporting Obi was the President when the most assassinations took place, he didn't jail 1 person. Peter Obi his dog supervised the killing of more than 1,000 Igbo youths under his administration in Awkuzu Sars. They invited the fool to panel, he didn't go.
The nest of murderers is Pdp and Labour Party, they will never smell that Presidency.
This is the list of assassinations under PDP which Obasanjo and Obi were under.
Chief Bola Ige AK Dikibo Marshall Harry Capt. Jerry Agbeyegbe Olakunle Arojo Dr Ayo Daramola Dipo Dina Funsho Williams Barnabas Igwe Amaka Igwe Bayo Ohu Olaitan Oyerinde
All these people were assassinated under PDP and not 1 single person went to jail.
Of all the bodies dumped in Ezu River in Peter Obi's administration, no one went to jail. In fact, the main butcher James Nwafor is Peter Obi's boy. Well said. Obasanjo famously said that "PDP is a nest of killers." The OP of this thread was obviously a little child when all these events took place. The OP's irresponsible post amounts to one of the worse forms of online criminal defamation. I remember back then that the intelligent 'Funso Williams was attacked at his residence by robbers who also stole items which were later sold and traced to people who were arrested. How can these tribal bigots falsely repeat these lies over the years online that Tinubu eliminated Williams and they go scot free? The mods have not been able to stop these paid creeps from posting fake news despite repeated reports by dedicated users of NL. I hate lies! Bola Ahmed Adekunle Tinubu has NOT treated the issue of fake news against him with a sense of urgency over the years, (except when he took Raymond Dokpesi and DAAR to court in a suit worth billions in 2015 for spreading fake info on AIT about him and the court ordered DAAR to apologise to Tinubu which they did as an out of court deal brokered by Mike Ozekhome) and this is the reason I don't regard him highly in that area. You have to be tough against those who lie against you. That's how to earn respect! It is time for the DSS to beam a search light on NL and other platforms and get those opening FAKE news threads arrested and prosecuted. Period. |

1nice: 2023 Presidency for Igbo President is the last fight Of Igbo people for one of their own to represent them as President of Nigeria.
After 2023 General elections in Nigeria and no Igbo man from the south east win the Presidential election. People everywhere will see the other side of the Igbo people they have been keeping in check for tolerance sake: by them all Igbo politicians, Igbo elites, Igbo groups, Igbos that belongs to various security agencies in Nigeria, all igbos agitator groups and other igbos will have an outburst of anger and injustice to igbos and will all say to hell with one Nigeria.
The biggest revolts in the history of the world will begin with the Igbos venting their angers, and by then it will be too late to call the Igbos for negotiation, because the situation will be out of control.
Research have suggested that the next civil war in Nigeria will be fought in the 36 states of Nigeria: the Nigeria military will be stressed out beyond what they expects, not even the Ghanaians and Foreigners will be left alone for the D day resurgence.
By then those who says an Igbo person from the south east can never be the President of Nigeria will then realized that living in peace is better than fighting an unending wars: then they understand the value of peace but it might be too late. |

Ednut03: Yeah. There are Nigerian Men in America who has not had a decent chance at sex for years. The only chance at sex they get is when they visit Naija once in a while. You ain't even getting a white chick to talk to you or give you her number if you ain't ridiculously good looking, dress well and speak really high.
Same apply to a woman and it's even worse. Men are thirsty, unlike Women, and she might get sexed and few attentions until the sex lasts. But she's not going to get any commitment if she doesn't match the beauty standard. So, she will be lonely too. Nigerian Men are still better positioned than her. And her woes even worsen if she's above 30. They rarely get white men. No they don't, because Nigerian women also fall short of the look And beauty standard
And if you're in dating app as an average black man (you're bleeped if you're ugly), you'll, 90% of the time be swept left over.
Hence, many Nigerian guys are frustrated and won't talk about it
Don't believe the stupid lies we peddle on here about white woman loving black for our dick game. It's a lie. If you ain't 100% attractive to her, your dick game doesn't matter. You need to be tall too, because their men are really tall. You can't be 5"9 and be expecting any reasonable result scoring a white chic, it ain't happening |

walefresh3: In their oral tradition, Owo traces its origins to the ancient city of Ile-Ife, the cradle of Yoruba culture.
Oral tradition also claims that the founders were the sons of the Yoruba deity Odudua, who was the first ruler of Ile-Ife. The early art-historical and archaeological records reinforce these strong affiliations with Ife culture. Owo was able to maintain virtual independence from the neighboring kingdom of Benin, but was on occasion required to give tribute.
The transmission of courtly culture flowed in both directions between the Benin and the Owo kingdoms. The skill of Owo’s ivory carvers was also appreciated at the court of Benin. During the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries, Benin’s rulers increasingly utilized insignia made from ivory, and imported Owo’s art objects and recruited its artisans for their own royal workshops. There were other notable artworks that can be evidently supported.
Owo came under British rule in 1893. After Nigeria declared independence in 1960, it was part of the Western Region until 1967 when it became part of the Western State. Owo and its indegenes played significant roles in the politics of the first Republic, in Nigeria. In 1976, it became part of the newly created Ondo State.
The present-day town is an agricultural center involved in the growing and trade of yams, cassava, maize, okra, peppers, cocoa, and cotton. Information available to 247ureports.com indicates that the former governor may have lied to the audience about his activities while at the government house in Anambra State.

Benji Obi who served Peter Obi administration from the inception revealed that Peter Obi told a fable when he claimed to have ran a financially prudent administration.
“Peter Obi increased the money for his private kitchen at the government to N2million monthly and increased the feeding for the Police Officers attached to him to N7million monthly”.
But he pocketed the money. He stated that Peter lied when he said he stopped the buffet-styled dinner being served at the Government House.
“What he did was to sack all the previous cooks and butlers and employed over 30 cooks/butlers/Stewart from Akwa Ibom and expanded the kitchen budget”. He continued, “The bills are still there. It is verifiable… the Akwa Ibom cooks and Stewarts were over 20… so who were they cooking for? Buffet is always there… butlers and others… Prof Emenike Obi – Principal Secretary withdraws the money every month and pays him… and it is verifiable”.
Chief Peter Obi’s reference to his banning of alcoholic beverages such as Champagne at the government house was laughed at by his kinsman who pointed to the Squash Court located inside the government house renovated by the Peter Obi administration – that was utilized by Peter Obi as a makeshift warehouse for alcoholic beverages such as the drinks his company distributes in Nigeria.
The kinsman explained that Peter Obi was storing expensive alcoholic beverages purchased with state resources. The alcoholic beverages would then be sold to outsiders directly from the makeshift warehouse.
During festive periods, Peter Obi will use the beverages as gifts to select personalities across the state. The gifts would be received as coming from the state government. The kinsman revealed that a distant relative of Peter Obi by the name, Amaechi who was brought back from a monastery in Ebonyi State was made in charge of the drinks storage and distribution.
Only drinks that belong to Peter Obi’s distribution company were stored at the makeshift storage facility. Interestingly, immediately Peter Obi stepped away from office, the said Amaechi opened one of the largest alcohol distribution depot in Anambra State.
The depot is located behind the government house in Awka. “Amaechi is now a billionaire – opened a liquor distributorship behind the government house”.
Benji Obi did not hold back in pointing out the uncanny inconsistency between Peter Obi’s testament on his refusal to use the state resources voraciously on his personal transportation and unnecessary purchase of vehicles – and the actual reality on the grounds.
He revealed that Peter Obi was the one that built the first Helipad at the government house for his personal use. “Peter Obi used helicopters to travel often while he was the governor – and he usually travels alone or with one trusted aide”.
It was not a secret within the administrative circles in Awka. “When he went to the burial of his wife’s sister, he flew in a helicopter. He took off from the government house”. Benji Obi adds also that, “he uses the Church to trick people… he is not a true Christian… he attends Olumba Olumba Obu with the helicopter… always accompanied by Valentine Obieyem”.
Benji pointed to Ngozi Okoye as the go to person whenever Peter Obi wants to book a private jet or a helicopter for travels. Peter Obi always uses private jets to travel as often as any other state governor in Nigeria. “The records are there and can be made public”.
“Peter Obi purchased a bulletproof BMW for his wife and two bulletproof landcrusiers for himself. He even bought an additional one for his brother, Damian”.
Peter Obi prefers to use Okey Ezeibe to make vehicle purchases – through his Legacy Motors because of a favor granted by Okey Ezeibe when Peter Obi’s aide and man-Friday [Valentine Obieyem] was arrested hauling N250million from government house to his private office in Apapa, Lagos.
In explaining away the reasons he was hauling the cash, he gave Legacy Motors as an alibi – that the money was for the purchase of vehicles from a neighboring country – through Legacy Motors – that the money was being hauled for Legacy Motors.
He told the anti-graft agency that the vehicles being purchased were meant for the various head of service [HOS] and other permanent secretaries [PS]. Peter Obi got the HOS and the PS to play along. Their reward was Peugeot 406 each – he purchased each of the HOS and PS brand new Peugeot 406, as bribe.
The over 150 hummer buses purchased by the state government under the public mass transport bill for use for the ANIDS transport scheme, according to Benji Obi, turned out to be a corruption scheme to benefit an associate of Peter Obi.
At the eve of Peter Obi’s exit from the government house, he gave away the entire hummer buses to his associate by name Benji Uba – who immediately began repainting the buses and selling them off – and pocketing the proceeds. Not minding that the buses were state owned.
“Peter Obi should be careful the way he opens his mouth because we can expose him to the public enough to put him behind bars. Obiano does not want to probe him… he should shut up…” continued the kinsman who revealed that Peter Obi also received part of the controversial campaign funds distributed by the Jonathan campaign team.
“Peter Obi did not even utilize the money given to him for the purpose it was given”. He instead used the money for private business and to sponsor local political campaigns within Anambra such as that of Uche Ekwunife, Chinedu Idigo and others.
“We have information that he is lobbying to avoid being probed. What he does not know is that President Buhari is a no nonsense person. He does not take kindly to hypocrites and corruption”.
Benji Obi particularly pressed heavily that Peter Obi was “very corrupt”. He recalled how the then Governor Peter Obi would pack over 6 suitcases filled with foreign currency [mainly dollar] and then take off to see his blood sister [Matina] who is an ordained Catholic Sister at the Holy Rosary [HRS].
The then Governor Peter Obi would store the suitcases at the Sister’s residence at the Catholic owned premises.
The suitcases would then find another destination. Peter Obi would engage in the practice repeatedly until her dismissal.
According to Benji Obi, “Sister Matina was dismissed from the HRS after she was caught”. She left for the Congo following her dismissal but returned to the government house – where she stayed till the end of Peter Obi’s administration.
Peter Obi’s propensity for primordial corruption and extravagant lifestyle – the type only expected of a military dictator – is shown in his relationship with a one-time girlfriend and colleague by the name Adaeze Idigo – who rose from the position of deputy director to permanent secretary within the span of 2.5years.
According to Benji Obi, Peter Obi and Adaeze Idigo had a lovechild during their young years – a baby girl.
Peter Obi had started his primary school and secondary school education in Anambra north senatorial district – the same area where Adaeze Idigo hails from.
Peter Obi attended St Augustine Umuoba Anam and then Father Josephine memorial grammar school where he met Adaeze. The two conjugated and gave birth to a baby girl in the 70s. She currently resides in Alabama, USA.
When the Peter Obi’s lovechild with Adaeze Idigo wedded in the USA, the state government of Anambra State was represented by Professor Stella Okunna who gave $50,000 on behalf of the State. The wedding took place in Alabama.
Peter Obi’s treatment of Adaeze Idigo was simply extravaganza. She was given a landcruiser sport utility vehicle, her mother was given the same along with a driver paid for by the state government.
Her family [including the mum] were relocated to the suburbs of Enugu – into a new house purchased with the resources of the state. A power generator worth N2million was taken directly from the government house to her new residence.
Her brother, Chuka Idigo who earns a living as a contractor working almost exclusively for Anambra state alone also benefited immensely from Peter Obi’s extravaganza.
“He was given numerous contracts without due process… many of them weren’t executed including the house of assembly headquarters… and others.”
Benji Obi then made a startling revelation as to why Peter Obi had wanted the governorship to be zoned to the north senatorial district following his exist from the government house.
“He wanted to install Chinedu Idigo”, a brother to Adaeze Idigo. “They used Chuka Idigo to raise election money through the many contracts awarded him without due process.”
But it backfired because the people of the north senatorial district who were aware of the relationship between Peter Obi and Adaeze Idigo rejected the candidacy of Chinedu Idigo immediately it was announced to them by Peter Obi.
The choice of Willie Obiano was forced upon Peter Obi by the people of Anambra north senatorial district. A source revealed that Peter Obi remains active in hoisting Chinedu Idigo as the governor of Anambra State – talks are ongoing as to which party to join to materialize the goal.
Peter Obi’s administration was typical of what is expected of a corrupt state government. Many of the contract awards were fraudulent and his claim of being financially prudent with state resource is fantasy.
This according to his kinsman and close political aide. “All contractors must have accounts with Fidelity bank… and all checks are collected at his house…”
Peter Obi claims his administration is not owing any contractor but “that is a lie” because “contractors were owed…Obiano is silently paying for works done during Peter Obi’s administration”.
According to Benji Obi, Governor Willie Obiano has asked Chief Peter Obi for forgiveness for any offense known and unknown to him.
He has asked both privately and publicly. “Still Peter Obi goes around talking about the Anambra Governor with disdain. Dr. Chris Ngige did not vilify him the way he is trying to do to Obiano. It is not fair.” Bump. I read the full post. Too many dodgy people acting as political saints. Soludo also gave his damning revelations about this man. @Seun, @Mynd44, @Sukkot |

This is called "soft power!"Even in Cuba and Brazil, Yoruba language is mixed with Spanish and Portuguese to give a very sonorous sound. Think of the biggest ever Cuban hip-hop group, Orishas that won the Latin Grammy awards for the song "Represent," think Lazaro Ros, and more, etc. Cuban-Yoruba is also taught in Cuban schools because of the prevalence of the Yoruba religion and culture in Cuba. Out of the estimated 800000 Africans brought to Cuba, 250,000 were from Yorubaland in the 1800s. (This was after the Haitian revolution put an end to plantation slavery of the French, so Cuba and Brazil became the new destination for enslave Africans from the 1800s). There is a strong presence of the Yoruba religion and the Orishas or deities such as Obatala, Elegba, Osun, Yemoja are well known in Cuba. The Yorubas in Nigeria and Benin Republic must set aside a national holiday to celebrate and remember all the Yorubas who were deported on slave schooners in the late 1700s to the 1800s. Politics › Re: Your Lack Of Integrity Forced Buhari To Stay Away From You: Atiku Mocks Tinubu by Konquest: 8:37am On Jan 09, 2023 |
[quote author= post=119717815]Only in Nigeria will a looter still be talking in this manner.
BETWEEN ATIKU AND TINUBU.
Tinubu contested and won a Lagos senatorial election. But when IBB banned all old generation politicians just to disqualify Yar'adua, Yar'adua put Atiku forward to run for President. Prior to this time, Tinubu had jettisoned his Senate Presidential ambition to pave way for a Southern President. At the Jos convention, Abiola and Adedibu had a long meeting with Yar'adua to drop his boy Atiku from the race so that Kingibe would not defeat MKO in the primary. Yar'adua initially refused until people like Adedibu, Tinubu, Oladipo etc reminded him how they supported him against southerners before IBB disqualified him. Yar'adua eventually surrendered and Atiku backed down, not willingly.
IN 1999, Atiku won Adamawa Governorship Election, Tinubu won Lagos Governorship Election. OBJ picked Governor Elect Atiku as running mate, therefore, Atiku never had the opportunity of showing his capabilities to transform Adamawa. Whereas, Tinubu grabbed the opportunity and turned Lagos to 4th Economy in Africa while Adamawa became a den of terrorism until Buhari dislodged the terror. Boko haram that terrorised the state was formed in Borno during the regime of OBJ and Atiku but became a global worry under GEJ.
After 2003 election, when Obasanjo was molesting Atiku, Atiku ran to Tinubu his PFN brother for safety, he got it. Tinubu formed and funded a political party when OBJ technically expelled Atiku from PDP. Tinubu gave Atiku the platform. However, Atiku left thereafter to rejoin the PDP because Atiku couldn't cope with the little beginning of the AC, he wanted a ready made party. Tinubu must have told himself "Atiku is not following Yar'adua's ethics. Yar'adua was never a political olosho", Tinubu’s trust for Atiku evaporated. And when Atiku lost in the PDP again, he was stranded. Tinubu and Buhari formed APC, immediately Atiku saw APC, he left PDP officially and ran to Tinubu again. Buhari was afraid that Tinubu would jilt him for his PFN ally, despite many assurances, Buhari was sceptical until after Tinubu kept his promise at the Teslim Balogun Stadium in Lagos. That was when Atiku also realised that he has lost Tinubu’s trust!!! Atiku again went back to the PDP after the general elections.
Atiku has been moving in and out of the PDP like a celebrity marriage, whereas Tinubu has never been a PDP man for one day. Atiku is unstable politically, Tinubu is not just stable, his words are bankable, ask Buhari. Atiku is unlike Shehu Musa Yar'adua, ask Tinubu, ask OBJ and ask Nysome Wike.
2023 has brought the two students of the same teacher into a single contest, who actually got the best training and adhere strictly to it? Who has the magic wand of Tafida? Nigerians have to make a clear choice between faithfulness or Promiscuity. Between Selflessness and Selfishness. Between Tinubu’s Lagos Performance and Atiku's VP performance. Between Tinubu’s ExxonMobil records and Atiku's Customs Records.
Between a Dubai based politician and a Lagos Based National Leader!!!

Eriokanmi: It's ok. We'd come back to this later. For your info, same Ahmed lawan had betrayed tinubu already. Am sure you knew what happened during the primaries and the role played by tinubu in crowning Ahmed lawan senate president in 2015 and 2019? Why didn't he step down for tinubu during primaries before tinubu now outsmarted them all? It's always good to be objective in one's reasoning. Trust fulanis at your own peril. Eriokanmi, Ahmed Lawan is a Kanuri just like Shettima the VP candidate of APC. This is the second time you have posted the incorrect info that Ahmed Lawan is Fulani on this thread so I had to step in. The Kanuris of both states will deliver most of their votes for APC just like they did for Alhaji Waziri Ibrahim of GNPP in the 1979 and 1983 Presidential election cycles which I witnessed. Yobe was carved out of Borno a sister Kanuri state.

Nairaland General › Re: Coronavirus: Is The World Economy Going Into Recession? How It Affects You & I. by Konquest: 6:21pm On Jan 08, 2023 |
BOSSFX: Today, Monday, March 16th, 2020, major stock indexes all over the world hit record losses. In fact, what happened today had only been recorded in 1929 and 1987 stock market crashes. In both instances, it was blood on the main street and factory floors, because a lot of wealth & savings was wiped off and many companies declared bankruptcies. I hope the financial market will not follow the same patterns this time around.
It is funny to say that just last month, february, 2020, all these stock indexes were trading at an all-time-high, creating the kind of wealth for people the world had never seen before. For example, without lifting a finger, the likes of jeff bezos and co. were adding $10b each to their wealth, all thanks to the bull market ride. The stock market just kept going higher and higher, reaching levels it had never reach in the history of the stock market. March entered, we started talking about recession. Imagine that summersault! What a difference a month can make. The stock market is indeed the grand casino! The market gives, and the market takes away! This is to show that this virus really mean business with us, and every hand must be on deck to fight this common enemy.
Many companies make up all of these indexes, well known companies upon which many of us depended on, like fb, amazon, alibaba etc. The world is one big supply chain. What is produced in China is consumed all over the world. The manority of the oil produced in Nigeria is consumed by Chinese, Turkish and india companies. If these companies shut down, who is going to but the oil from us? All these companies are already shutting down their operations substantially, especially in China, the world number 1 supplier. Abi, wetin no come from china nowadays. Inevitably, these compnies are incuring loses both in sales and shares valuation at an alarming propotion. 12% loss today means, they have lost 12% of their value in just one day! To put that in context, it took the stock market a year to gain that 12% it lost today. If this losses persist, i dont think any company will still be standing come april. And that will be total collapse.
What triggers this precipice is this virus and the manner in which it is gently spreading but very deadly to human race. It is gradually stoping us from doing what we have been doing for centuries and what has made our social progress possible: [/b][/i]relating.[b][i] Social and economic relations are getting disrupted day after day. Flight getting cancelled, borders getting closed and football leagues have been paused. And the supply chains for goods to reach end users have been affected too. UK govt. announce today for all pubs, bars and other places people gathers should close up. This, indeed, is desperate time. And it calls for desperate measures.
HOW DOES IT AFFECT US IN AFRICA, ESPECIALLY, NIGERIA.
My point is that the cure for coronavirus must be found in time, else, africa wont be speared from this looming economic collapse, even if the virus could not operate much here because of the weather, as people claims. Nigeria is import-dependent nation. Rarely there is anything we dont import. So, if importers couldn't get the goods into the country, the prices for available ones will skyrocket. And the way economic cycle works is that, the effect of what is happening in this quarter, Jan - March, will be felt much more from the next quarter, April - June, and going forward. So, factories and business closing up as stock market indexes is pointing to, like today, really call for serious measures from government agencies concerned to avert the looming economic danger ahead.
MAJOR EFFECTS OF THESE ECONOMIC PANDEMIC (IF) IT HAPPENS.
1. As stated above, if no/less import, prices of available goods will jump. 2. Dollar will get stronger against all currencies, because, real, savvy investors will only buy treasuries bills that are dominated in dollars. Dollar strength will only make no 1. more costlier. How much is dollar to naira now? 3. World economy is inter-connected now. If China sneeze, europe will caugh, eventully, africa economy will catch cold. Nigerian economy is exposed too. Hope you still remember 2008? Sub-prime crises! And, what happened to Nigerian stock market? And still been felt till today. 4. Unemployment. Civil servant should expect half/owed salary. Retrenchment. God forbid bad thing o. 5. The demand for crude has plummeted as Russia and Saudi-Arabia flooded the market with cheap oil. A crude now sells below $30 per barrel. That is far below Nigerian govt $57 per barrel benchmark. How is Nigeria going to fund its budget now? And, mind you, during recession, govt must have money to spend to keep up the economy. Shey naa more taxes dem wan do? During recession? Make den kuku kill us be that. Or go borrow? From which govt or donor agency precisely during recession? All serious govt saves money for situations like this. But, our govt, may God help us o. I just hope they have plans and programs in place to surprise us.
In Conclusion, l believe it is better for us to be enlightened and informed about what lies ahead and make our plans ahead of time, so as not to be caught unawares. This is not to scare anyone, but to lay a possible scenario bare before us, so as to make our choices as we see fit. As for the korokorovirus(lols), let's pray the cure is found quickly. And, please, my people, let's maintain hygenic practices as long as this stuff last and even beyond. We dont know its end yet. Lastly, as every other pandenmic has passed us by in history, this one too shall pass!
Peace and Victory!

Okealaaye: Obasanjo Instigates Youths
Idowu Akinlotan
January 8, 2023
Contrary to what many supporters of ex-president Olusegun Obasanjo think, those who chide him for his unusual and intemperate letter endorsing the presidential candidacy of Labour Party’s Peter Obi are not doing so because they regret his refusal to support their own candidates. He has the right and pleasure to support anyone he wishes, regardless of the bad choices he has made over decades. What the complainants quarrel with is the tone of the endorsement letter, its instigation rather than logical persuasion of the youths, and the former president’s unbelievable deployment of mediocre philosophy of leadership. He is free to support anyone he likes, whether his critics like it or not, but it was expected that he would do it with the dignified poise of a leader, the decorum associated with great leadership, and with balanced, even-tempered and unassailable logic. He had all of 85 years to develop and hone that poise and maturity, and over 11 years as head of state and president to acquire the experience needed to set the right example for the nation. Now, all those years seem a horrible waste.
Somehow, as is customary of him, his letter of endorsement was full of hysteria: hysteria against his imaginary foes, hysteria against his successors in office, and hysteria against his compatriots and God whom he sometimes gives the impression is permanently at his beck and call. Mr Obi, a sophist like no other, probably deserves Chief Obasanjo’s support. The two sophists are thus obsessed with specious reasoning, and roundly complement each other. For whatever the endorsement is worth, no one should begrudge the controversial former president from backing Mr Obi’s candidacy. It was perhaps too far-fetched for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Atiku Abubakar, to expect Chief Obasanjo’s endorsement. Too much had soured in their relationship to realistically expect even a grin from the ex-president. Rabiu Kwankwaso of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) would have been unable to fathom any endorsement from Abeokuta. That left the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Ahmed Bola Tinubu, and LP’s Mr Obi to vie for the bilious old man’s attention. It would have been incongruous for the APC, as the party knows very well, to receive the nod from their old and unforgiving antagonist and sparring partner.
All the leading candidates for the 2023 presidential election had visited Chief Obasanjo in Abeokuta, more as a courtesy than necessity; but it would be hard to gauge what value they would have attached to his endorsement had he deemed them worthy of the gesture. Even Mr Obi who finally got the nod has remained nonplussed. He is uncertain what to do with the endorsement, especially seeing that the repeated hurrahs he had got from the politicised churches of Nigeria had not given his candidacy the needed boost. The streetwise LP candidate knows by instinct that Chief Obasanjo is long past his expiry date. In fact, much more, he knows that all that is left of the phlegmatic old warhorse from Abeokuta is his nuisance value. But better not to draw the ire of the sleeping bear: if he cannot be for you, at least make him indifferent to you. That was why Alhaji Atiku and Asiwaju Tinubu visited him. Both men were too smart not to know where Chief Obasanjo leaned; but they thought they could lessen the pungency of his vitriol. Alas, the former president remains as incandescent and malignant as ever.
When Chief Obasanjo first gave the solid hint mid-December that he might endorse Mr Obi, this column challenged him to defend his suppositions about the LP candidate. It is unlikely the former president read the challenge, for he is too cocksure of everything to care what anyone writes, and too narcissistic to bother about any interest but his. However, he has finally explained his choice, though the explanations do not do credit to his long years in office, nor to his vaunted statesmanlike ability to see the woods for the trees, to see from the mountaintop, and to light a lamp to the national feet. He rests his support for Mr Obi on two main but leprous legs, one of which is discernible from his attempt to prequalify the candidates. Hear him: “From interaction and experience, and as mentees as most of them claim, I will, without prejudice, fear or ill-will, make bold to say that there are four major factors to watch out for in a leader you will consider to hoist on yourself and on the rest of Nigerians in the coming election and they are what I call TVCP: Track record of ability and performance; Vision that is authentic, honest and realistic; Character and attributes of a lady and a gentleman who are children of God and obedient to God; and Physical and mental capability with soundness of mind as it is a very taxing and tasking assignment at the best of times and more so it is at the most difficult time that we are.”
This prequalification of presidential candidates is clearly pedestrian, and it is hard to imagine that it comes from a former president. How he equated those who visited him – for after all, they also visited other past rulers – as his mentees remains baffling. How could a man whose politics is in constant flux have mentored anyone when he had no identifiable ideology, no private or public principles, and is capable of the most corrosive mendacity any liar anywhere could subscribe to? The simple answer is that it is customary of Chief Obasanjo to exaggerate his recollections and be infatuated with his own tall stories. Having read very little of any serious stuff since he left office, and thus failed to improve himself, it is unsurprising that he embraces flighty ideas and panaceas. Just reading books on Julius and Augustus Caesar, Genghis Khan, Abraham Lincoln, Nelson Mandela, Winston Churchill, Deng Xiaoping, and Charles de Gaulle, among many other great leaders in Asia, Africa and Europe would have helped sharpened his perspective on leadership. But even using the crude four-way test contained in his letter of endorsement, it is hard to explain why he cannot see that his choice failed all but one of the tests. He then went on whimsically to denounce the emi lokan (my turn) slogan popularised by Asiwaju Tinubu, insisting that leadership does not admit to such principle, but turned round to embrace awon lokan (their turn) to underscore Mr Obi’s bid as an Igbo man. As customary, the contradictions are lost on him.
But there is an even more pernicious and infinitely more pedestrian, instigative and divisive second leg for Chief Obasanjo to stand his endorsement of Mr Obi: the LP candidate’s youth, a factor embedded in the former president’s four-way test. Why he smothered the third of the four-way test – that of obedience to God – whatever that means, is equally hard to fathom. In any case, he has zeroed in on the youth factor. So, hear him at his sentimental worst: “My dear young men and women, you must come together and bring about a truly meaningful change in your lives. If you fail, you have no one else to blame. Your present and future are in your hands to make or to mar. The future of Nigeria is in the same manner in your hands and literally so. If for any reason you fail to redeem yourself and your country, you will have lost the opportunity for good and you will have no one to blame but yourselves and posterity will not forgive you. Get up, get together, get going and get us to where we should be. And you, the youth, it is your time and your turn. ‘Eyin Lokan’ (Your turn). The power to change is in your hands. Your future, my future, the future of grandchildren and great grandchildren is in your hands. Politics and elections are numbers game. You have the numbers, get up, stand up and make your numbers count.”
To hear a former president instigate this sentimental and comical revolution is truly troubling. He and many others in his generation were heads of state in their youth. What did they do when they were given the opportunity to lead the country? What did they bring into leadership? What constitu tional structure for leadership recruitment did he, in eight years, institute to help produce the right leaders? Both as a youth and elder, he led Nigeria without character, morality and principles. Now, in his infatuations, he is advocating a beguiling and suffocating return to emptiness. Mr Obi whom he touts as competent, but whose errant ears must be continually pulled, supposedly by Chief Obasanjo and his ilk, had the opportunity to lead Anambra for eight years; has the state become a destination for youths and elders, or has it showcased visionary leadership? And how is it possible, even in the closing years of Chief Obasanjo’s life, when he should be wiser and less given to histrionics, that he cannot appreciate that leadership is not about age but about character, discipline, intuition, intellect, and vision etc.? Neither he nor Mr Obi possesses any of the attributes he speaks dreamily about; it was, therefore, a trifle too easy for him to pontificate grandly as the grand mentor of political heavyweights, including, untruthfully, Mr Obi himself.
INEC statistics suggest that Nigerian youths dominate the voting population; it is understandable why Chief Obasanjo has tried to instigate them against the rest of the country without caring what qualities or character the aspirant or candidate possesses, or what the consequences of division might be. Using the age segmentation tool is, however, a mask for the former president’s other insidious objectives, as indicated in this place on December 18. Some analysts have snidely speculated he is not quite the Yoruba man he has all along pretended to be, but given his unbridled narcissism and messianic fervour, the ethnicity or religion a candidate belongs to hardly matters to him. He is neither a federalist nor a democrat, and if he tolerated the rule of law, which as president he treated as an inconvenience, it is because he had encountered a greater force he could not resist. He works hard, but he is incapable of any kind of altruism, and his leadership style has been as self-indulgent and ad hoc as his perspectives have been desultory. How such a man can now pretend to nobility in the selection of the next president, when he more than thrice bastardised that process in the past, is beyond comprehension. After ruling Nigeria for more than a decade, and having done nothing to reform or restructure the system to create a more durable constitution and viable democracy, it is shocking that he still sees nothing wrong in instigating and promoting division.
It is fortuitous that Chief Obasanjo has openly endorsed Mr Obi with the same questionable judgement he openly schemed for third term in 2006. His nose will be put out of joint in the coming weeks, as it was in 2006. Had he offered plausible reasons for endorsing the LP candidate, the country would have had to grudgingly respect his choice, despite his customary self-centredness. The APC is fortunate he did not endorse their candidate, for they would have had to lie in bed with a demanding stranger and cocquet. They gave him the courtesy of a visit, as they gave other past Nigerian rulers. Surely it could not be because he had done stupendously well as president, as he erroneously seemed to believe; yet he tries to constitute himself into a sort of national lodestar from which future leaders must take their reference. Courtesy is nothing more than courtesy, no matter what anyone reads into it. In the years ahead, such courtesies would not be given anyone but the electorate who, hopefully, can acquire the education and judgement needed to discern and vote for leaders with character. |
