Slytiger: Hon James Faleke disassociate himself from the indigenous bill just as the Honourable Blessing Amadi from Rivers State had done earlier today.
Previous publication that listed Hon Blessing Amadi and Hon James Faleke as co-sponsors.
That MUST never be tolerated because foreign migrants through the illegal borders of especially the far North of Nigeria such as the foreign Fulas from the Sahelian region would abuse it to settle in several states of Nigerian cities and towns while changing the demographics and the chaos and nightmare scenarios would begin.
There must be boundaries to prevent these scenarios from occuring.
casualobserver: First of all certificate of residence is different from indigine status.
That said that’s why Osinbajo was never fit to be president. He is a typical western educated English speaking Nigerian who thinks he is a white man.
The bill that should be introduced is a bill that mandates people to vote in their state of origin.
The reason why we produce so many bad leaders is because the educated have fled the villages and ancestral lands. The Educated southerners live in Lagos or PH and the educated Northerners are gathered in Abuja.
As a result we are far removed from our states of origin and have no say in who becomes the senators, rep assembly members and governors. Out no of 109 senators we have influence only over 5. The senator for Abuja 3 for Lagos and PH city. Even the. It is not real influence because we only vote after they have selected.
Also voting at our states of origins will force us to periodically go home, causing everyone to develop more interest in rural areas and more importantly having more influence on the elected officials we send to represent us at the state and national levels.
You can’t sit down in Lagos and Abuja and complain that quacks become elected officials in our states. All politics is local. If the educated and enlightened are not present the vacuum will be filled by quacks!
Absence of the educated from their towns or villages or states of origin is why the vacuum is filled by charlatans.
Plus there is no point in voting in a state where the locals have shut you out of the candidate selection process.
That's gonna be a deep one for those living outside their home states to go back to vote every 4 years. It could create some form of lethargy (except it's made mandatory for all in order to gain access to government issued documents or essential facilities).
LegendHero: We don’t have issues with Queen Victoria or any other ethnic.
We are just showing those who claim it’s a no man’s land how it’s done.
If na truly no man’s land, Iboee people should be able to change the name back since it’s an alien turf.
The original Yoruba name of "Victoria Island" has ALWAYS been IRULAND hence the name Iru/Victoria Island.
The ORIGINAL settlement was located where the Bar Beach was before the Eko Atlantic City project started. This is for those who are not fully aware of this historical FACT.
Ironfaceman: Not only pepper farm, what about. Spanish lily.
Old man I see you're lost in denial. People like you could have been emancipated mentally if only you took your history lessons seriously but instead you relied on the words of village drunks who can not read or write.
Read about the great Benin empire and know the exploits of the oba of Esigie and how his military garrison conquered yorubas even unto dahomey.
Then you'll know where I come from
I DON'T have to read about anything. How can you who isn't from Lagos Island and definitely NOT well-read about advanced archival materials that I've had access to since the early 1980s be telling me to go and read some books? It's asinine of you to spew that out of your mouth when you don't know me!
I'm well-informed (even definitely before you were born) about the centuries-long advanced history of what is now Lagos State and Eko (Lagos Island). Hence I mentioned earlier about a Benin link with Lagos Island BUT there was NEVER any defeat or successful conquest. It was resisted by the Aworis and eventually the Binis started coming in peace to trade and farm. Eko paid "tribute" to Benin but it was symbolic simply because of some ancestral connections between the royal palace at Iga Iduganran (which was built on the land of Aromire) and Benin which is a historical FACT.This is so because Asipa a Yoruba noble man of Isheri (who went to Benin and had the trust of the then Oba of Benin) married a Bini woman and had a child named Ado who became a King on the Island and that was achieved NOT through any conquests BUT peacefully. During Oba Kosoko's reign as King in the 1800s, the nominal tributes to Benin Kingdom was stopped totally. These are CLEARLY stated in the advanced history books such as Sir Allan Burns' iconic book entitled, "The History of Nigeria" of which I have a 1949 copy in one of my home libraries. Sir Allan Burns was the Acting-Governor General of Nigeria and the Governor General of the Gold Coast.
Go and tell the indigenes of Eko and the Aworis of Lagos Island all these disinformation about a "mythical defeat" by Benin or that "Eko" is a Benin name and you'll see the consequences of your actions.
You are simply spewing historically innacurate trash right here based on revisionism and some of you young people just see misleading information on Wikipedia and YouTube then you lap them up WITHOUT fact-checks and begin to give opinions on what you know NOTHING about. This discussion forum has several threads since the 2000s where these historical specifics between Benin and Eko/Yorubaland have been treated conclusively.
If you don't have any BETTER thing to say, get off my mention. Period.
Ironfaceman: EKO is BENIN word get your facts right. Brims name lagos EKO
STOP the disinformation you're spewing with confidence young man! A lot of you read too much disinformation from Wikipedia which is susceptible to vandalisms, BUT actual history remains. This is NOT to say that there is no historical links between Benin Kingdom and Yorubaland (Ife, Eko or Lagos Island, etc). Till date, the Yoruba folks call the Island "Eko" in private or public convos and the media reports NOT Lagos. A person can be in Ikeja or Ibeju-Lekki and say to another person in the Yoruba language that he is going to Eko which simply means Lagos Island. In addition, "Ipinle Eko" simply means "Lagos State."
"Eko" is just the shortened form of "Ereko" or pepper farm because the Island was used as a pepper farm centuries back by the descendants of Olofin Ogunfunminire a Prince of Ife who migrated from Ife and was the first to settle on Iddo Island extending to Eko or Lagos Island. The current White Cap Chiefs of Lagos Island are the direct landowners of Lagos Island and the direct descendants of Olofin Ogunfunminire (through his biological sons) an Awori man. The Aworis are spread directly across 17 LGAs out of the 20 LGAs of Lagos State right into Ogun State and are a major subgroup of the Yoruba people whose Yorubaland extends from Nigeria to Benin Republic and the Atakpame region of Togo. The Ijebus ancestrally own 3 LGAs in Lagos State namely Epe, Ikorodu, and Ibeju-Lekki with Ajah also being of Ijebu descent and the Ijebus who are ALSO a major subgroup of the Yoruba folks extend from Lagos State right into Ijebuland in Ogun State from where they were originally carved out from to create Lagos State on May 27, 1967 alongside 11 other new states by General Yakubu Gowon's military regime based on the original recommendations of the Ijaw nationalist leader, Chief Harold Dappa-Biriye from Bonny Island and the Rivers leaders of thought according to a 1998 interview Dappa-Biriye granted to Guardian newspaper.
In conclusion, NOBODY on Eko (Lagos Island) knows it as a Bini word. The word is purely of Yoruba origin and I know this because I have links to Lagos Island through my maternal lineage. Period.
It obviously is. Besides, it's a Fula-led political coalition party seeking to hold on to power through subterfuge for the minority Fula political hegemony.
Dr. Kach Ononuju's powerful July 6, 2025 video interview on YouTube was very revealing on the minority Fula political agenda and booby traps which some naive and clueless people especially of SE of Nigeria origin who have been jumping blindly into the so-called political coalition do NOT realize.
atoliman: The Apetu of Ipetumodu in Osun State, Joseph Oloyede, is in custody of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).
He has been indicted for conspiracy, wire fraud, and money laundering.
Oloyede was installed as the monarch of Ipetumodu in 2019 and frequently travelled between Nigeria and the US for “royal and personal engagements”.
However, he has been missing for nearly a year and was absent at three major traditional festivals, including the annual ‘egungun festival and Edi celebration’.
The US department of transportation has now issued a statement, in which it was revealed that a grand jury indicted Oloyede and one Edward Oluwasanmi.
“The indictment alleges that Oloyede and Oluwasanmi fraudulently obtained over $4.2 million in COVID-19 relief funds guaranteed by the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) under the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act, including Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) loans and Economic Injury Disaster Loans (EIDLs),” the statement reads.
The documents showed that Oloyede and Oluwasanmi were arrested on April 5, 2024.
The indictment claims that from April 2020 to February 28, 2022, Oloyede and Oluwasanmi used PPP and EIDL applications which contained false information to receive monies.
They also allegedly submitted falsified tax and wage documents to support these applications.
“Oloyede received $1.7 million, and Oluwasanmi received $1.2 million in SBA funds for their businesses.
“Oloyede obtained approximately $1.3 million through those applications, totaling at least $4.2 million obtained through the fraud,” the statement added.
Relevant US authorities are working with the FBI and the Internal Revenue Service Criminal Investigation, on the case.
Alleged indictment as indicated in the MSN article.
It's very important to ALWAYS get professional legal advice before doing anything (especially business-related activities) in the United States so that you do NOT run foul of the tax laws and other specifics. What is permissible in Africa or Asia may be illegal in the United States. Period.
Before the arrival of Oranmiyan in Benin, there was already an existing Monarchy and till date , the records of the kings that reigned in Edo are still on record. By the time Benin was created, there was nothing like Yoruba. That's the emphasis. Yoruba as we know it now was first used to refer to Oyo and then recently became an umbrella name for Southwestern Nigerians.
Talking about who birth who between ife and Benin is another topic. There are two narratives on what actually happened and you can decide to go with whatever narrative deoending on whose side you belong.
The contention between Ife
An impressive post right ABOVE. Just to add my takes gleaned from decades of personal studies of advanced historical materials.
The Ogisos where NOT necessarily "Kings" but a rulership by "elders." Indeed, people existed in what is now Benin prior to the beginning of the Oranmiyan Dynasty which has it's ORIGINS in the Ufe (Ife) 3rd Dynasty of Osun State. The members of the Royal dynasty are now Benin with Yoruba paternal ancestry and aboriginal maternal Egor origin through Oba Eweka 1, the biological son of Oba Oranmiyan who did NOT stay long but left to Ife and hence founded the Oyo Kingdom (Oyo itself existed then but Oranmiyan transformed it into a Kingdom)The Ogiamien family head has already granted media interviews in the past to The Guardian newspaper which is still online, emphasizing that there were people of Yoruba origin (the name Yoruba did NOT come into formal use till 1843 through the great linguist and clergyman Bishop Samuel Ajayi Crowther who coined it for the Oyo people to represent the entire Yoruba Country) who had intermarried and fathered children with aboriginal women of the former "Igodomigodo" now Benin over 800 years ago long before Prince Oranmiyan's arrival through the Yoruba Kingdom of USEN (formerly known as Ife Kekere) now in Ovia South West LGA of Edo State with Oba Oluogbe 11, the Olu Awure of Usen as the current King or Oba of USEN. Prince Afelogiyan who was the older biological brother of the then Prince Oranmiyan and both grandchildren of Oduduwa (NOT children of Oduduwa as claimed in the 2016 coronation speech of the current Oba Ewuare 11) became the FIRST EVER traditional ruler of USEN in Edo State. The Usen royal family and the Bini-Edo royal family are direct relatives and USEN plays an important role in the coronation ceremony of every Oba of Benin but have NEVER denied they are from Ufe or Ife from the Yoruba ethnic group. This is why the family salutations of those in Benin from the noble High Chiefs to those on the street level who originally have their ancestral roots from Ife in Yorubaland is "Delauhe" meaning "How is Ife?" The Oba of Benin is saluted with "Lamogun" emphasizing the Yoruba deity or God of War and Iron (Ogun). But Bini-Edo is Bini-Edo and Yoruba is Yoruba and the distinction MUST be respected because Bini are NOT Yoruba and vice versa (even though there are some historical, ancestral, religious and cultural connections between the two groups). Distinctions also exist especially in language and more. The brilliant historian, Professor 'Banji Akintoye also hammered on this same FACT.
The ancestors of the people who constitute the Yorubas of today already existed long before even Oduduwa was born. Oduduwa came to what is now Ile Ife (spelled "Ufe" in the dialect) from the hilly Yoruba community of Oke-Ora (Oke means Hill and Ora means a Yoruba deity) which is just 8 miles away from the Ife in the same Osun State. Because of this FACT of Ife's connection with Oke-Ora, before any Oba or Ooni of Ife is about to be crowned, he has to go to Oke-Ora as part of the ceremonial rites).
The word "Yoruba" officially came into existence in 1843 in the books (Yoruba-English Dictionary and Yoruba vocabulary) written by the great linguist and Anglican clergyman Bishop Samuel Ajayi Crowther (who is a direct descendant of the Emperor of the Oyo Empire, Alaafin Abiodun of the Oyo Empire who reigned in the late 1700s) and was derived from the name of the Oyo people (the founders of the Oyo Empire) who are one of the major subgroups of the larger Yoruba people (Aworis, Ijebus, Ilajes, Ekitis, Ijesas, Ondos, Owos, Ikales, Okuns, Igbominas, Ajase and Ketu of Benin Republic, Ife of Togo, etc) of Yorubaland which extends from Nigeria to Benin Republic and Togo.
The people who make up what is now Yorubaland have been in existence for centuries before even Oduduwa or Oranmiyan where born.
The Oduduwa Dynasty is the 3rd Dynasty in Ufe or Ife and 2 other Dynasties have existed before Oduduwa arrived over 900 years ago from his hometown just 8 miles away.
The great historian and Nigeria's former Ambassador to Germany, Professor Jide Osuntokun and even Professor Banji Akintoye, have emphasized these FACTS in their books that the BEGINNING of a new dynasty does NOT equate to the origin of an ethnic group or a people. Prof. Jide Osuntokun emphasized that autochthonous communities existed in what is now Yorubaland long before the Oduduwa Dynasty started based off of archaeology evidence and more. Therefore Oduduwa represents just one out of the many ancestors of the Yoruba ethnic group (especially the ruling Kings or Obas) of today who extend as indigenous people from Nigeria to Benin Republic and Togo, with significant populations spread from Ghana, Cote D'Ivoire, Sierra Leone, Gambia, and other major population centers of the world.
muhammaduyusufu: Oranmiyan, the first Alaafin of Oyo, was the 5th Ooni of Ife.
He left the lower title for a more prestigious throne in Ife. The throne of Oduduwa. The Olofin, the Oghene.
Awolowo was not born when the Ooni of Ife travelled outside Ife to Lagos and all Oba in Yorubaland including the Alaafin had to stay outside their palace as sign of respect.
The book below (Native crowns) was written by a colonial master in 1903. Awolowo was born much later in 1909.

mandarin: Ijaw does not have land to claim riverine areas in ondo and Edo states. Its like saying migrating Fulani cattle rearers are indigenous to every state they are in Nigeria. Ijaws are migrant fishermen in Ondo state but not indigenous except for those who willingly Yorubanized. No ijaw state of this nature will ever happen in Nigeria
You just spoke my mind. That OP is definitely high on some cheap stuff. His asinine maps even cut off the Itsekiri communities' access to the sea. There will be war over this issue as NOT one inch of Ondo, Edo and Itsekiriland or even Urhoboland will go to the Ijaws who are largely descended from migrant boat people of Ghana.
Hence Ijaws are matrilineal (NOT patrilinial) just like in Ghana and the Ogoni Senator Magnus Abe ALSO CLEARLY stated on his website some years back that the Ijaws are from Ghana. Even the Ogoni Traditional Council Head affirmed in an interview I read a few years ago that the Ogonis are a fusion of Ibibio people and migrant boat people from Ghana hence the presence of Ghanaian words in the Ogoni language.
Ijaws are even encroaching on other Ijaw people's territories to claim them. An example is the Soku community clashes between migrant fishing settlements formed by Nembe folks in Soku territory only for the Nembe to start claiming ownership of the area after deposits of oil and gas were discovered according to the Soku indigenes.
Toruibestate: See what our Ijaws of Akwa-Ibom are doing. They have 8 LGAs in present Akwa-Ibom State. Half Ukanafun and half Ikot Abasi both of Ibani Ijaws to make it the 8.
See what OBOLO Ijaws did. Even fix Ijaw flag in their State government house.
Nayturalistic: Direct Quotes from Sir Ahmadu Bello in the ever-popular 1960 BBC Interview.
Q: "One thing I have noticed while I have been here is that northerners seem to have the worst form of obsession about the Igbos. Could you please explain that?"
Ahmadu Bello:
> “Well, the Igbos are mainly the type of people whose desire is to dominate everybody. If they go to the village or town, they want to monopolise everything in that area.”
> “If you put them as a labourer, within a year they will try to emerge as the headman of that camp... and so on... well.”
Great100000: UK government borrowing came in more than forecast in June, a setback for Chancellor of the Exchequer Rachel Reeves that will fan speculation over potential tax hikes to shore up the public finances.
A surge in debt-interest payments sent the budget deficit to £20.7 billion ($27.9 billion), the Office for National Statistics said on Tuesday, £6.6 billion more than a year earlier and well above the £17.5 billion economists surveyed by Bloomberg expected.
Borrowing in the first three months of the fiscal year was £57.8 billion, around £7.5 billion higher than a year earlier and in line with the forecast made by the Office for Budget Responsibility in March. The deficit had been running billions below official projections in April and May.
The level of borrowing leaves Reeves with a hole to fill in her autumn budget. Her fiscal plans have been knocked by recent U-turns over billions of pounds of spending cuts. There are also fears of a downgrade to official growth projections, leading many economists to warn that higher taxes are inevitable.
The chancellor is caught between febrile bond markets worried about government debt levels across advanced economies and rebellious Labour lawmakers who recently forced the government to pull back on reforms to welfare spending. Reeves has stood firm on her fiscal rules, which include a promise to fund everyday government spending with tax receipts by the end of the decade.
Gilts fell more than their German and US peers following the release, lifting the UK 10-year yield three basis points to 4.63%.
The deficit in June was boosted by a £16.4 billion debt-interest payment, the third highest for any month on record. The £8.4 billion surge from a year earlier was driven by a jump in inflation in April increasing the cost of servicing bonds linked to the Retail Prices Index, which make up a quarter of the total debt stock. However, this effect won’t be repeated in July, as the RPI barely rose in May.
“Things will probably get worse for the chancellor,” said Alex Kerr, UK economist at Capital Economics. “We think that she will need to raise £15-25 billion at the Budget later this year, with higher taxes doing most of the heavy lifting.”
The ONS said government receipts in June continued to be bolstered by the hike in employer payroll taxes that came into effect in April. Revenue came in at £86.8 billion, £5.7 billion more than a year earlier. Compulsory social contributions, which reflect the increase in national insurance contributions, were £48 billion for the first three months of the fiscal year, £7.5 billion higher than last year. However, it was more than offset by rising spending with government expenditure in June climbing £12.4 billion to £97.1 billion. Besides debt costs, spending was also boosted by higher outlays on welfare and public-sector wages.
Net debt stood at £2.9 trillion, or 96.3% of GDP, in June — around the highest levels since the early 1960s. A wider view of the public finances used for the chancellor’s fiscal rules, known as public sector net financial liabilities, came in at £2.5 trillion, or 83.8% of GDP.
The Bank of England’s upcoming decision on quantitative tightening will be one factor determining the fiscal outlook. The Treasury is having to stump up for losses related to the BOE’s bond operations that are running into the tens of billions of pounds. There has been speculation it will halt sales of long-dated debt after signs of fragility in that part of the market. Sources: https://fortune.com/europe/2025/07/22/uk-borrows-billions-more-than-expected-as-debt-costs-surge-rachel-reeves/
The citizens of the UK will have to pay back the debts over the long-term through their taxes. That's a country that takes tax collections seriously but folks will have to bear the brunt for infrastructural development and more.
There are CLEARLY 3 Yoruba names out of the 8 old street names that were renamed in that your attached screenshot, and 3 names of Ibo origin. It's highly IRRESPONSIBLE that some bigots are trying to generate propaganda out of this by giving the impression that all the names changed in Ajeromi-Ifelodun LCDA are Ibo names. Daddy Showkey's name is among the newly renamed streets and he's of the Isoko ethnic group from Delta State. It was formerly known as George Street, now Daddy Showkey Street.
There are far more important things to do with time BUT these misguided younger ones and a few of there elders from the South East of Nigeria deliberately fabricate disinformation to manipulate their people to hate others for political gains.
Just last year in 2024, a gang of kidnappers kidnapped for ransom a Yoruba man who is an investor in agribusiness right in Ijebu Igbo and later killed him and buried him in a shallow grave. The Police investigators later arrested them all up to 7 of them and the videos are still on the Channels Television YouTube channel alongside publications in the print media online. Those who carried out the kidnappings were all Ibos. This is the same thing they have been doing in Yorubaland (Chukwudumeme Onwuamadike aka Evans and his gang of armed robbers and kidnappers from Anambra) and other gangs for years now which they have exported to Ghana as well which has triggered the anger and massive protests from Ghanaians just yesterday based on the arrests made by the Ghana Police due to the massive crimes they commit for over 15 years now alongside the impostor illegally claiming to be an Eze Ibo of Ghana when he is NOT from a royal family in his village.
Instead of being sober over these crimes commited by their kinsmen especially from Anambra State based on crime statistics from the NIA and more in Nigeria, Ghana and several countries such as South Africa, Kenya, Thailand, India, Ethiopia, Seychelles, Brazil, Singapore, China, Cambodia, Vietnam, Sierra Leone, etc, while tarnishing the image of other innocent Nigerians from the over 300 different ethnic groups, some of the South Easterners are busy manipulating people's emotions and puffing over some inconsequential renaming of street names and landmarks in Lagos State due to bigotry and low self-esteem issues.
Fiery scenes unfolded on the tarmac at Denver International Airport on Saturday afternoon as an American Airlines passenger plane caught on fire.
“Flight 3023, you got a lot of smoke,” air traffic control told the pilot, according to local NBC affiliate 9News. “You are actually on fire,” they added moments later.
All 173 passengers and six crew members onboard the plane managed to evacuate safely. One passenger was taken to the hospital with minor injuries.
In a statement to the Daily Beast, a spokesperson for American Airlines said that the Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft experienced a mechanical incident involving the plane’s tires as it attempted to take off at around 2:45 p.m. local time. The plane was bound for Miami International Airport when the malfunction occurred.
In dramatic footage posted to Instagram, passengers can be seen departing the plane through the emergency slide at the front of the plane while flames engulf the landing gear at the rear.
“All customers and crew deplaned safely, and the aircraft was taken out of service to be inspected by our maintenance team,” the American Airlines spokesperson said.
“We thank our team members for their professionalism and apologize to our customers for their experience.”

The N500 billion Produce-For-Lagos Fund
Governor of Lagos State, Mr @jidesanwoolu today launched the Produce for Lagos Programme and the ₦500billion Offtake Guarantee Fund, an initiative of the State Government aimed at boosting food security, reducing imports, and enhancing agricultural productivity across Nigeria.
This initiative will be implemented through the Lagos Food Systems Infrastructure Company (LAFSINCO) and supported by key Special Purpose Vehicles like the Lagos Bulk Trading Company, Ekolog (Eko Logistics), and the Produce for Lagos Fund.
This ₦500 Billion Offtake Guarantee Fund will provide working capital for bulk traders, finance for logistics operators, liquidity for aggregators, and credit support for food producers across Nigeria.
This fund is not a subsidy; it is an investment vehicle that will catalyse private capital, stabilise food prices, and de-risk agricultural operations across the value chain.
When will the Phase 1 of the "Epe Agro Food and Logistics Hub" which will the the BIGGEST in Africa be ready?
Ms. Abisola Olusanya, the first ever female Commissioner for Agriculture of Lagos State said the Phase 1 would be ready by June 2025. This would LOWER the cost of food items by 50% by providing wet and dry storage facilities and cut off the middle men by linking up the farmers a d sellers directly.

As a business owner, will you really rely on anyone coming from areas on the mainland that are over a 75km away? Instead, the LASG is concentrating on residents within the catchment area showing up and banking that should they not show up, they will be happy to get the fish delivered at a fraction of the cost on a regular market day.
Since you'll really love to get the fish, I'll encourage you to reach out to close friends and relatives in that axis and ask that they oblige you to receive the fish on your behalf as an alternative.
I like the analytical way you made you presentation above with statistics. Succinct.
