Lanrelagboi:Impressive. Epe is one of the major sources of aquatic life in Lagos State. |

alphonsoolajide:She's 44 (single and still less than 45) and can easily pass for an under 40 so it's her prerogative and she is allowed in that space. The definition of a "youth" according to the Junior Chamber International (JCI) is someone from the age of 40 and below. But then again, many of us especially in the Gen X and lower-end of the Baby Boomers who are older than the 40 years JCI benchmark are "young at heart" and follow current trends in the social, technological and business ecosystems. Period. |
richiemcgold:It's pretty OBVIOUS from what you typed right ABOVE that these dealers and sellers of rice and other commodities are just taking undue advantage of the folks over there in Nigeria tbh. Why should a bag of rice be more expensive in Lagos State than Ondo State when Lagos shares a common land and sea border with Benin Republic and has seaports for importation thereby lowering the cost of haulage? I remember that the BUA founder said the Nigerian-based rice millers were largely the ones responsible for hoarding the PADDY RICE in an article posted here on Nairaland in early 2025, and Abdulsamad Isiaku-Rabiu said he was going to bring down a bag of 50 kg bag of rice to N60,000 and below. Dangote said the same thing. Nigeria needs ruthless civilian rulers who are "benevolent dictators" like Chief Olu Falae rightly stated at Federal and State levels to deal with the IRRESPONSIBLE people keeping Nigeria down from achieving food security. You don't act like a gentleman when dealing with economic sabotage! I'm ALSO aware that the FIRST EVER current female Lagos State Commissioner for Agriculture, Ms Abisola Olusanya and the Lagos State Government are constructing the BIGGEST "Agric Food and Logistics Hub" in Africa right in Epe which would lower the cost of food items by 50 % with the Phase 1 set to be launched any time from now. A mini Agric Food Hub created by Lagos State ALSO exists in Idi-Oro, Mushin where food items are being sold at 75% below the current market value due to the ability to connect the farmers and buyers directly. This would cut off these greedy middle men who hoard food items and other commodities. The greed of some Nigerians in marking up food items at short notice to take undue advantage of their fellow Nigerians is unprecedented! I read on this discussion forum just two months ago how some Enugu State middle men and women LOST money after borrowing money from financial institutions to hoard bags of beans in the hope of selling at 60% ABOVE what they originally got the beans. The inflow of cheaper beans into Enugu State from bumper harvests in the North of Nigeria crashed the "dreams" of those Enugu beans hoarders to make quick profits out of the sweat of Enugu State residents due to the fact that beans CANNOT be stored for more than one year. |
treesun:Indeed, a "benevolent dictator" (as stated years ago by Chief Olu Falae), in a Civilian Government is needed to deal with the massive lust for money and the greed of a lot of Nigerians in that country who engage in regular sabotage while creating inneficiences leading to artificial scarcity and artificial inflation in the economic ecosystem. |
TallNigerian:You made even more valid points in in your last two paragraphs. A benevolent dictator is needed to deal with the greed of a lot of Nigerians in that country who engage in regular sabotage while creating inneficiences such as artificial scarcity in the economic ecosystem through hoarding to make illegal profits. Nigeria's problem is beyond Tinubu, Obi or Atiku. Nigerians are fantastically corrupt. It will take the Chinese style of executing corrupt officials and citizens for some normalcy to be restored in the way we conduct ourselves. |
ProudlyLagos:@ Bolded True that. |
cr7lomo:Let me step in to educate you here. Your uninformed analogy above is historically off the tracks, based off of whipped up sentiments. Many of those British Colonial street and road names on Ikoyi Island have long been renamed after the streets were reconstructed many years ago to Yoruba names belonging to iconic figures and indigenes of Lagos State. Second, "Alfred Rewane Way" was formerly known as "Kingsway Road" (because of the popular Kingsway Stores we used to visit located on Ikoyi Island back in the 1970 to the 1980s) and was rightly renamed by the Lagos State Government headed by the then Governor 'Bola Tinubu to honor the memory of the iconic Itsekiri business mogul and NADECO member who was assassinated in Lagos during the military dictatorship years of Sani Abacha. His house was a political meeting point and he was a strong member of the "Action Group" political party led by the iconic Chief Jeremiah Obafemi Awolowo, GCFR, SAN, and a major financier of NADECO, which was very vocal in its opposition to the military regime of that highly corrupt military dictator called Sani Abacha. Alfred Rewane was painfully assassinated NO doubt by agents of the military dictatorship on October 6, 1995 at his residence in Ikeja, Lagos. So, the name Alfred Rewane Road will NEVER be changed contrary to your uninformed assumptions above. If it's absolutely necessary to change any name anywhere in Lagos State or Nigeria as part of rebranding or urban renewal, then it would be done with good reasons. NOW, I'm aware for decades now that lot of Yoruba names too have been renamed to other names in Lagos State over the last 45 to 50 years, such as the former "Matori Road" in Mushin which was renamed to "Fatai Atere Way" in Matori (by the General Muhammadu Buhari-led military regime) in honor of the skilful soccer star, Fatai Atere who is an indigene of Lagos State (after the iconic Olukumi indigene of Ugbodu in Delta State, Nduka Ugbade-led 1985 Under-17 World Cup team won gold and lifted that World Cup in China). It's totally uncalled for when uninformed younger posters especially of South East Nigeria origin come online and offline to stir up conspiracy theories OR make "wild claims" about "tribalism" whenever these few name changes take place in Lagos State and it CLEARLY smacks of deliberate disinformation, propaganda and toxic primordial sentiments due to some clear low self-esteem issues laced with ignorance! A few years ago in Anambra State, a street name associated with the current Ebonyi State capital "Abakaliki" was changed to "Club Road" by the state government and it caused some discontent among the Ebonyi people. The story can still be read online in Premium Times, Nairaland and more. Period. |
wirinet:You are embarrassingly NOT well informed and spreading disinformation here about that area of Lagos State. For your information, the official name of that Bus Stop like I stated on Page 2 is historically "2nd Pedro bus stop" but was renamed to Charly Boy and now officially "Badoo Bus Stop" after Olamide. You obviously do NOT know much about Lagos State based off of what you posted above. All those you mentioned including the young man Olamide Adedeji (Badoo) have strong roots in Bariga having lived and/or contributed to it's growth hence the renaming of some streets and landmarks to honor them by the Bariga LCDA Chairman. It's totally within the purview of any community to do a renaming of streets and landmarks. It's NOT even a state government issue alone. Besides streets named in Yoruba were also affected in the renaming yet you folks keep getting annoyingly focused on tribalism as being the cause of the renaming. There are more important things you people can do with your lives and time other than whipping up baseless primordial ethnic sentiments against the Yoruba folks who own Bariga and can do as they please with their land as long as it's within the rule of law. Period. |
Kobicove:We'll see how things pan out down the road. The ORIGINAL (or official) name of that Bus Stop is "2nd Pedro" till 2025, and only informally named "Charly Boy Bus Stop" by some people. BUT it's now renamed officially to "Olamide Badoo Bus Stop" after Olamide (who is a Bariga-born guy) as of 2025. "Although before now, the official name of the Bus Stop is 2nd Pedro till 2025, Charly Boy B/S" was named during Charles' peak while still living in Lagos State with his popular "Charly Boy Show" on television back in the day, from the early 1990s. Some people are used to the "Charly Boy B/S" name by default but with time people, will adjust to the new name because it's a 1-word name... "Baddo" Bus Stop. Even the former students or folks who attended the then "University of Ife" by default still like to call it by that name instead of the "Obafemi Awolowo University" renamed in 1987 after Chief Jeremiah Obafemi Awolowo, GCFR, SAN, despite his iconic projects in the Old Western Region such as the first TV station in Africa, the then first and tallest high rise building (Cocoa House) Nigeria including Western House on Lagos Island, the construction of several Industrial Estates from the 1950s such as Oluyole in Ibadan, Ikeja Industrial Estate, Ilupeju Industrial Estate, Iganmu Industrial Estate, Isolo Industrial Estate, etc, [all located in the Old Western Region, for manufacturing and exports through the seaport in Apapa long before Lagos State was created on May 27, 1967 by General Yakubu Gowon]. |
TimeManager:The gentleman is NOT a "young man" at 57 like you stated. A person is largely refered to as young if he or she is less than 40 years of age. |
UK- Based Ebonyi Business Mogul, Zubitech Global Demands Renaming Of Streets Bearing Anambra Names In Abakaliki 👇👇👇 By Wisdom Nwedene, Abakaliki https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kSxJWTISS1U?si=WHksjZcylUSmK6kr A Concerned Ebonyi Indigenous Group in Diaspora (EIGD) led by a United Kingdom based Ebonyi-born Business Mogul, Azubike Daniel popularly known as Zubitech Global has petitioned the Ebonyi State government under the leadership of Francis Nwifuru to rename some streets in Abakaliki, the capital city of the state bearing Anambra related names. This outburst is coming after the Anambra state government recently renamed a major street in Anambra State formerly known as 'Abakaliki street' to 'Club street'. The government in defense stated that the renaming was necessary after the street massively developed over the years and currently houses different club houses, hotels and other recreational centres. The Anambra government would go ahead to change every sign post, numbering and tag bearing Abakaliki street to Club street signalling that the renaming was serious and immediately effective. However, Chief Peter Uzodinma who happens to be the man that named the street as far back as the 1950's cried out over the renaming stating it as a move to waste his efforts from old as one of the few people who built Anambra state to the level it is currently. Chief Uzodinma who hails from the Izzi Local government area of Ebonyi state narrated how he moved to Anambra state in the 90's and purchased a land which has now developed into the Abakaliki/club street. According to him in an interview with newsmen, the land which he purchased decades ago was empty and bushy but he insisted and lived there with his family from whence he did all the jobs he did back then to survive while he maintained the land. The elderly Chief further noted that he decided to name his then house and now fully occupied street in Anambra after Abakaliki because it is where he comes from. However, the state government seems to have taken a stand while some residents of the state and in the street have shared their thoughts on the renaming. While some vote against the development, others are taking sides with the government stating that the renaming was necessary. One resident said; "I feel the renaming was necessary because when people hear Abakaliki street, they would probably see the street as occupied by classless individuals, but the renaming to Club street clearly identifies that the street is full of clubs and anyone who wants to come around would know they'll meet a lot of club houses." Another resident said; "I feel the renaming was necessary because the street is not only occupied by Abakaliki people but the man who named the street should be compensated." A male resident stated that; "The renaming is not an impressive development because that man must have worked very hard to maintain the land and the least the government can do is let the street retain the name to crown his efforts and have him understand that they appreciate him." Meanwhile, the Indigenous Ebonyi group led by the Business Mogul, Zubitech Global has petitioned the state government insisting on them to immediately rename streets it named after Anambra state including; 1. Awka Street 2. Onitsha Street 3. Abangana Street 4. Aniekwena Street 5. Oraifite Street 6. Umuoji Street 7. Odinukwe Street 8. Nsugbe Street 9. Afoezuna Street 10. Awkuzu Street 11. Nteje Street 12. Abatete Street 13. Nnobi Street 14. Emeofo Street 15. Udemezue Street 16. Obiri Street 17. Umuchu Street 18. Aniekwe Street, etc. In a statement released on Tuesday, the group's chairman, Zubitech Global said what's is good for the goose is also good for the gander. The business Mogul also recounted how the people of Anambra state have continually underrated and hated them from time immemorial. Zubitech Global had to recount the killing of no fewer than 13 Ebonyi Indigenes in Anambra State less than 2 months ago. According to him, "Anambra indigenes have always had the idea that they are superior to Ebonyi Indigenes inculcated in them from little." Also, many have recalled how they were bullied, underrated and maltreated in Anambra State as residents and/or wherever they found themselves dealing with them. Therefore, Zubitech Global alongside other indigenes are insisting that unless the street in Anambra State retains its original name 'Abakaliki street', all streets in Abakaliki that were named after Anambra in anyway must be changed. chopnaira:Charles Oputa is from Oguta in Imo State NOT Anambra. What made that Bus Stop significant back in the day is that Charles' house was located close to it. You could literally see his house while driving along the expressway heading towards the 3rd Mainland Bridge. However, he moved permanently from Lagos with his African-American wife, Diane to live in his newly built house in the FCT for some years now so his eccentric presence and aura are far removed from the Gbagada community now...Therefore, the renaming of the Bus Stop can be justified. |
Eriokanmi:@ Eriokanmi Didn't YOU read the article properly? What "tribalism" are you going on about? STOP whipping up needless emotions here. The ORIGINAL or official name of that Bus Stop has ALWAYS been "2nd Pedro" NOT "Charly Boy Bus Stop" which is just an informal naming due to his activism for commercial bike riders. The bus stop is now officially renamed to "Badoo Bus Stop" from "2nd Pedro Bus Stop" after "Olamide" Adedeji (who is a Bariga-born guy) as of 2025. "Charly Boy B/S" was informally named during Charles' peak while still living in Lagos State with his popular "Charly Boy Show" on television back in the day, from the early 1990s. The bus stop has NEVER been officially approved as Charly Boy bus stop. Now, on the contrary there's NO ethnic bigotry in the rebranding (except initially on the subliminal level for me with the name "Baddo" BUT since it's the young man, Olamide's alternate or stage name, then folks will have to get used to it). Every community or locality worldwide such as the Bariga LCDA in Lagos State reserves the right to rename roads and landmarks as part of rebranding after road upgrades and gentrification! The original article CLEARLY states that other streets in that area were named after notable people. I saw a YouTube video in my timeline just 3 weeks ago detailing how Olamide is silently investing heavily in real estate and agribusiness so that's quite impressive to know he's using his millions wisely and he can be a role model. Besides, I'm aware that Charles Oputa doesn't live in Gbagada, Lagos State anymore in that rented house where he lived close to the expressway for years now since he has moved to his new house in the FCT with his family. It was in that FCT house that Charles' father (Justice Oputa) stayed before he died. Excerpts of the article CLEARLY stating that other roads and landmarks were renamed as well. According to Alabi, the renaming initiative aims to honour notable individuals who have contributed to the growth and image of the Bariga community. Other roads and landmarks were also renamed after celebrities and public figures, including King Sunny Ade, Tony Tetuila, 9ice, Arsenal footballer Bukayo Saka, and Olamide himself, who also now has a street named after him. |
TimeManager:That's impressive. This should have been done much earlier before mid-2024 but better than never. These CNG-fueled trucks are the low-hanging fruits the states have to activate through the Governors and Commissioners of Agriculture and NOT focus on the FG. The delivery of cheap food is domiciled in each Nigerian State and the Commissioners of Agriculture for each Nigerian State has to be held accountable for the delivery of sustainable food delivery with improved security instead of allowing their citizens to keep blaming the President. The Kaduna State Governor has been able to restore peace to the major agricultural belts if his state and other Governors must hit the ground running too do that their folks can have cheaper food and transportation with CNG-fueled haulage trucks and high-capacity buses. I'm aware that Lagos State is constructing the BIGGEST Agric Supply Hub in Epe and the Phase 1 is due for commissioning with the objective to crash the cost of food by 50%. Kudos to Ms. Olusanya and her team for that. |

ogododo:Completing Primary 6 was the norm back in the day until the early 1980s when some kids in so-called private schools (with the active connivance of their parents started writing exams into private secondary schools) began to skip Primary 6 in order to gain admission into secondary schools. Age 12 has ALWAYS been the standard age for admissions into secondary schools and there's a reason why that was done. I know some parents who were Uni academics back in the early 1980s who didn't allow their brilliant children to skip Primary 6 into secondary schools. |
SouthSouth1914:Look, do NOT twist my well-intended post and insult my sensibilities here. What kind of ridiculously "wild innuendos" are you typing? Your reading and comprehension skill is VERY pedestrian to me due to your confirmation bias and knee-jerk reactions to a very simple post! If you had taken the time to properly read my posts (which had NO ill-intentions towards you or anyone), you wouldn't have blundered with your confirmation bias. I told you that the last time I ever voted on Nigerian soil as an adult was back on June 12 1993, so what the hell do you mean by me being a "government supporter?" That's a total B.S. submission from you as I'm not a supporter of any political party over there in Nigeria. I'm simply interested in good governance all over the world as that helps to smoothen out things for the benefit of all folks along the social ladder! Go through my original posts again which was very CLEAR. I NEVER at anytime in any of my posts state that the jailing of Nduka Irabor and Tunde Thompson in 1984 under Decree 4 by the military dictatorship (which was well reported in the major electronic and print media which I read back in 1984) "coincided with or took place" when 'Bola Tinubu had that interview with Ayo Arowolo in the late 1990s. I was already an adult when the duo of Tunde Thompson and Nduka Irabor went to jail in the 1984 and only used that 1984 episode as a context in my post. Do NOT quote me again because I totally detest having convos with anyone who CANNOT grasp simple FACTS written in text. My conversation ends here and now. Period. |
SyrusdeHansome:. That's a projection for the year 2075. It's doable if there's a confluence of several parameters that can trigger economic boom in the presence of sustainable or long-term peace alongside the increase in Nigeria's population. |
How Nigerians End Up Homeless in Ivory Coast (The Truth) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ubBOXtbwZ2A?si=nxtQhpLqEW6TbOeL Uptownngiirl • July 20 2025 #Abidjan #ECOWAS #AfricanStories They said Nigerians were thriving in Abidjan… but what I saw tells a different story. I traveled to Côte d’Ivoire hoping to find success stories among the Yoruba community—but instead, I found a hidden struggle. No ID, no job, no shelter. Many live in fear of police raids, discrimination, and poverty. From abandoned buildings to street corners, I saw Nigerians, Ghanaians, Malians—West Africans—fighting just to survive. But in the middle of it all, I also found hope: people like “The Refugee” who choose kindness, even in pain. |

musicwriter:Just a quick one. You're NOT serious are you? I totally write offhand. I told you on that other thread that I'm a vast reader with a huge personal library collection in my different home libraries which I've gathered since the early 1980s. I don't use AI to write my posts or articles because to me that's intellectual laziness. This is why academics will get their students penalized for using AI or Wikipedia for their projects. I've NEVER used AI at any time since I stated using this discussion forum in 2005 (20 years ago) to write articles. There are also software you can use to easily know if ANYONE had used AI in their articles or NOT. Last but NOT least, I don't see any discordance in my previous posts because I know where I'm coming from. I have to sign out. |
musicwriter:Indeed, it's an ABSOLUTE affirmative from advanced DNA sequencing that the origin of mankind thoughtout the ages started right on the Africa continent. The variations we see in humans are due to those "genetic markers" which typically can ONLY be found in specific groups due to ancient mutations. This is how DNA testing companies such as the U.S.-based AfricanAncestry (founded by Gina Paige and Dr.Rick Kittles in the early 2000s) are able to identify with the aid of "genetic markers" those African-Americans who are directly descended from a patrilinial Yoruba or Mbundu ancestor OR a matrilinial Yoruba/Hausa ancestor (matter of fact, the AfricanAncestry tests show that Yoruba women and Hausa woman are directly related based off of m shared genetic markers). The FIRST time I came across that information back in the early 2000s, I couldn't immediately wrap my head around it. I later understood that admixtures took place centuries back in the family tree through a common ancestor but I won't go deep into that because of my limited time here. In addition, there are certain diseases which are found in some Jewish families due to in-breeding (i.e, first cousins getting married to first cousins) and these are use to identify Jewish bloodlines through those markers. I appreciate the extra layers of fantastic information (books from Luca Cavalli, "The Journey of Man" and the accompanying video of the same name) in your post. I'm an avid reader of functional books from time, so, I'll look them up further later in the day. Have a great week ahead! Cheers. |

Jeje247:ABSOLUTELY well said. A lot of younger folks don't seem to realize that 'Femi (FFK) who is also ancestraly of one-eight Fula descent was married to a Ghananian woman back in the 1990s (1997 to be precise) and they have a daughter together. I recall that back then, he used to live in Ghana before moving to Nigeria. Gosh! I wonder why some random people don't do basic fact-checks but like spewing disinformation. Even Linda Ikeji FALSELY reported that this is FFK's "3rd attempt" when in reality, this is his 5th marriage to a total of 4 Nigerian women and a Ghananian citizen Regina Amonoo who is an ex-Beauty queen. 1] INTERVIEW: Why I allowed Fani-Kayode marry Precious despite our union — Regina Fani-Kayode 3 Oct 2020 — "He introduced Precious to me from the very beginning, he told me that he was a bit lonely and he needed somebody." =>https://www.premiumtimesng.com/entertainment/naija-fashion/418194-interview-why-i-allowed-fani-kayode-marry-precious-despite-our-union-regina-fani-kayode.html Regina Fani-Kayode (Nee Hanson Amonoo) is a business woman, pastor and the legal wife of Femi Fani-Kayode, a former Minister of Aviation. musicwriter:ONLY DNA tests 🧬 linking ancient Egypt (Kemet) with West Africans such as the Yoruba folks will resolve that conclusively. I read somewhere online that there's a genetic marker found among the Yoruba in some ancient Egyptian genetic pool. I'll try to out that Web source later. However, DNA studies funded by the National Institute of Health (NIH) in the United States entitled "The African Genome Variation Project Shapes Medical Genetics in Africa." which supports the claims that our ancestors came from the Middle East. A scientific theory called "Back to Africa." The evidence presented is from a serious study on human origins and disease susceptibility, detailed characterization of African genetic diversity. It reveals the little nugget of our ancient exposure to Europeans/Asians. The Yorubas have Eurasia genetic admixture that dates thousands of years ago. The quote is right BELOW: HG = Hunter Gatherer Eurasia = Europe/Asia SSA = Sub Sahara Africa "We found evidence for historically complex and regionally distinct admixture with multiple HG and Eurasian populations across SSA (Fig. 2 and Supplementary Note 5). Specifically, ancient Eurasian admixture was observed in central West African populations (Yoruba; ~7,500–10,500 years ago), old admixture among Ethiopian populations (~2,400–3,200 years ago) consistent with previous reports10, 12, and more recent complex admixture in some East African populations (~150–1,500 years ago) (Fig. 2, Extended Data Fig. 7 and Supplementary Note 5). [b]Our finding of ancient Eurasian admixture corroborates findings of non-zero Neanderthal ancestry in Yoruba, which is likely to have been introduced through Eurasian admixture and back migration, possibly facilitated by greening of the Sahara desert during this period13, 14." I began to pay more attention to him for the FIRST time EVER before he joined APC from PDP when I read a Punch newspaper article online where he said he once worked as a bus conductor back in the day. He seemed like a humble, altruistic dude and hard-working too. But this post of his is discordant because many Northerners including NNPCL's 'Bayo Ojulari from his own Kwara State have been appointed into various positions including the Fulani Minister of Defence and the Fulani Minister of State for Defence, to the Fulani NSA, etc. I think he should learn to ONLY speak when it's absolutely necessary so as NOT to lose his reputation. adenigga:Bolaji, this is disinformation. President 'Bola Tinubu has been appointing Northerners since he assumed the Presidency. It's the over entitlement that's repulsive here. The Minister for Defence is a Fula, the Minister of State for Defence is a Northerner as well. There are a lot more in other Federal agencies. |
Maxymilliano:The U.S.-based academic Farooq Kperogi has always engaged in knee-jerk reactions in the past.
