ACHILLES45:
The war in Iran is because of this. Leave all the noises aside of nuclear weapons. This is the reason for war.

America sanctions and go to war for specific reasons. All economic and global dominace in economics. That's it. No other reason. Other reasons are tabled against citizens of the west to approve the war so they can send their children to go fight the wars.

So what's happening here?

China and Iran are underway building a railway that will connect China to Europe with Iran being the transfer terminal of Chinese goods to various European countries.

This means an old silk road is being constructed, but instead of horses and camels, the goods will travel in high speed Chinese trains. This will remove the burden of sea freight.

Who own ship companies and insurances?

Europeans and American companies owns Maersk, Evergreen and many sea supply cargo ships. UK and EU controls most of the insurances. Because trains will be faster and owned by China, now China will own the insurances and the rail cargo supply chains.

This means the west loses trillions because of this rail infrastructure.

Iran benefits in this project because sanctions works like this. When sanctions are tabled against Iran, it means no cargo ship will take goods to Iran, and if a cargo ships agrees, no insurance company will cover that ship. So without being insured, you have to charge fees very high to supply Iran or supply Iranian goods to the world. Then no one will buy those goods because they arrive expensive. That is the role of sanctions. Sanctions work when transport and insurance don't want to touch you.

So sanctions will no longer work on Iran with this project and Iran will become a regional super power.

Israel is an enemy to Iran.

If this project succeed, the existence of Israel in the region is threatened. When you put away the Bible or the Torah, this current Israel is not the Israel of Judea and Sunmeria in those books. This is a settlement, a colony and an occupation of Arabs. It is not different from what happened in South Africa. And people governing this settlement they named Israel are not from the middle east, they are white people from East Europe from countries like Russia, Ukraine, Romania etc. They have no connection to that land or ancient Hebrews. People who have connection to that land are those bombed in Gaza, West Bank, Lebanon, Syria etc. Those are ancient Hebrews who later converted to Islam.

So Arabs knows this fact. The only reason Arab capitals like Saudi Arabia helps the religious Jews on occupying Palestine is because they are afraid of what America will do to their beautiful countries. America can say Saudi Arabia is a Sharia state and needs freedom and Saudi Arabia will turn into Gaza.

However, Arabs are also afraid of Persian dominance. Because Arabs and Persians have fought many wars over centuries and America knows how to play this division.

Russia and China are trying to tell Arabs that they have protection under BRICS, but Saudis and Emirates are not really afraid of what Iran might do if it becomes powerful, they are more afraid of America and they are not sure if China can deter America yet.

So this is a test of character on the Chinese, will they fold when Iran gets invaded? Or US strategy is to disturb the project without going to war?

If there will be strikes on Iran every 6 months by Israel, then they will effectively disturb the project.

The "nuclear bomb" story is a hoax. Iran needs unclear energy to power this project. Israel is bombing civilian nuclear fissle material to delay the project and hope America comes in and end the project.

So this is the fundamental truth. Everything else is just propaganda.
Interesting perspectives though...

PoliticsRe: President Tinubu Commissions 15km Osex Service Carriageway by Konquest: 10:36pm On Jun 13, 2025
CapitalLens:
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has commended the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Barrister Ezenwo Nyesom Wike, and his dedicated team for the successful completion and delivery of 17 vital infrastructure projects within the FCT to commemorate his second year in office.

The commendation came during the commissioning of the 15-kilometer left-hand service carriageway of the Outer Southern Expressway (OSEX), stretching from Ring Road I to Wasa Junction in Abuja.

President Tinubu, who was represented at the commissioning ceremony by the Senate President, Senator Godswill Akpabio also applauded the FCT Minister for his unwavering commitment to providing essential infrastructure that positively impacts the lives of FCT residents.

He described the OSEX as Abuja’s crucial transport backbone, emphasizing its role in connecting the city center to rapidly expanding districts such as Apo, Lokogoma, Gudu, Wumba, and Wasa, thereby significantly enhancing urban mobility.

"This road, stretching from Ring Road I all the way to Wasa Junction, is a significant addition to the road networks in the heart of Abuja. This vital infrastructure demonstrates our commitment to sustainable urban development, enhanced mobility, and improved quality of life for the people of the FCT and by extension, to all Nigerians and visitors alike", President Tinubu stated.

The President also praised the impressive quality of work on the OSEX and acknowledged the Minister's efforts to relocate the Apo Mechanic Village traders, expressing confidence that the exercise would be brought to a successful conclusion.

He further commended the surrounding communities for their patience and support during the construction phase, urging FCT residents to protect the new infrastructure.

“I commend the FCT Administration led by the Hon. Minister, Barrister Nyesom Wike and the contractor, Messrs CGC Nigeria Limited for the impressive feat and quality of work. Through Wike’s leadership, uncompleted projects have been reactivated and delivered with discipline, quality and timeously. Like the Minister described, they had to cut through the rock for 5 kilometers in order to bring about this road.

“The Minister has also promised the mechanic village that has been here since 1991, that they will be relocated and they said they are happy. They expressed it by answering it. If there is something I know about you; it’s the fact that you don’t like anybody breaking agreements. Agreement is agreement. So, today you have an agreement with the good people of the FCT. Remain focused and continue to deliver. Nobody will remember you for the way you answered your critics. They will only remember you for the legacies you are leaving on ground”, the President added.

Speaking earlier, the FCT Minister Barrister Nyesom Wike expressed gratitude for President Tinubu's personal commitment and presence at the commissioning of completed projects in the FCT.

He reaffirmed the FCT Administration's dedication to completing all ongoing projects in line with the President's Renewed Hope Agenda, crediting the support from the President and the National Assembly for the successes achieved thus far.

Barrister Wike stated that the OSEX road project has already improved connectivity within the FCT, allowing easier access from Wasa to Takushara and Ketti, in the Abuja Municipal Area Council.

While committing to the dualisation of the main OSEX carriageways, the FCT Minister equally pledged to personally supervise and ensure the relocation of the Apo Mechanic Village along the road corridor.

He said, "Mr. President, as I speak to you, where we are sitting now, we are going to dualize this road to finally address anything about traffic in this area. Secondly, we have told the Mechanic Village; they said since 2011, they have promised them they will relocate them. Ours is not a promise. Ours is that we are going to do it. I will supervise it, I will chair the relocation"

LAUDS FCT MINISTER OVER PROJECTS DELIVERY
Everyone seems happy here. Tbh, I've had a blase attitude toward Wike in the past while he was in charge of Rivers State, BUT I've read a lot of positive comments about Nyesom Wike from the FCT residents who say he's literally the best ever FCT Minister. That's a positive quality cholerics have... The intensity they put into their work life makes them into achievers.

CrimeRe: NDLEA Arrests Iran-bound Woman With Cocaine In Private Part, Stomach, Bag by Konquest: 9:33pm On Jun 13, 2025
SoulWriter:
The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has thwarted a desperate attempt by a woman, Ihensekhien Miracle Obehi, who disguised herself with a hijab to export large consignments of cocaine concealed in her private part, stomach, and the false bottom of her handbag to Iran via Port Harcourt International Airport, Rivers State.

Obehi, dressed in a hijab in an attempt to evade security checks, was intercepted at the departure hall of Port Harcourt airport on 3rd May 2025 while trying to board a Qatar Airways flight to Iran via Doha, following credible intelligence.

As a result, she was placed under excretion observation, and after four rounds of excretion spanning several days, she expelled the 67 wraps of cocaine from her stomach. She claimed she had intended to swallow 70 pellets but, after ingesting 67, was unable to consume the remaining three and opted to conceal them in her private parts. The total weight of the three consignments hidden in different parts of her body was 2.523 kilograms.

Similarly, NDLEA operatives at Lagos International Airport intercepted a 22-year-old British national, Campell Kaizra Kofi Johannes Slifer, on 9th May while arriving from Thailand via Doha on a Qatar Airways flight. He was found in possession of two suitcases containing 35 parcels of Loud, a potent strain of cannabis weighing 37.60kg.

That's an Edo name but is she really from Edo State? Based off of credible data on hard drugs trafficking mules, many of them usually don't use their real names to commit these crime BUT use forged international travel documentations.

She should be properly investigated and then punished for her stupidity in trying to traffick hard drugs to the Islamic Republic of Iran of all places where she would have faced the death penalty through beheading.
I'm really pissed off right here... are a lot of these Nigerians so dumb that they don't read about the death penalties in these other countries even in the local Nigerian languages? She should just thank her stars she got detected by the NDLEA.
PoliticsRe: Re: The Double Blunder From Sanwo Olu's Aide by Konquest: 9:19pm On Jun 13, 2025
immaculatesense:
Two wrongs do not make a right.
It is only the president who is allowed to use the Nigerian flag with the coat of arm on it.
Both Obi and Sanwo Olu are wrong to use the flag with a coat of arm on it.

LET ME EDUCATE YOU AND EVERYONE

WHY THE PRESIDENT USES THE FLAG WITH THE COAT OF ARM ON IT.
1. Distinction of Office (Presidential Standard)

The flag with the coat of arms is known as the Presidential Standard. It is a variation of the national flag used specifically by the President of Nigeria. The coat of arms in the center signifies that the flag represents the office of the President, not just the country in general.

This version is flown or displayed:

At the President’s official residence (e.g., Aso Rock).

On vehicles, aircraft, or podiums when the President is present.

At international or state functions involving the President.

2. National Flag vs. Presidential Flag

The national flag (green-white-green, without the coat of arms) represents Nigeria as a nation and is used by the general public, institutions, and at most official events.

The Presidential version (with the coat of arms) represents the authority of the President specifically.

This practice aligns with global norms. Many countries have a modified version of the national flag for their heads of state or military leaders (e.g., the U.S. Presidential Seal on the U.S. flag, or the UK Royal Standard for the monarch).

ARE GOVERNORS PERMITTED TO USE THAT FLAG?
No, state governors in Nigeria are not authorized to use the national flag with the coat of arms on the white stripe—that version is reserved exclusively for the President and represents the federal executive authority.

VERDICT: Buhari was right to use the flag with the coat of arm on it. Obi and Sanwo Olu were wrong to use the flag with the coat of arm on it.

Thanks.
@Naptu2 is the ultimate resource person who can add more insights on to this thread. I remember he emphasized on this topic on his thread a couple of years ago. I can't readily find the post he made right now but will post the link here if I can create time to find it.

Second, is Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State right or wrong to use the Nigerian flag with the coat of arms on it? Peter Obi obviously has NO basis to use the flag with the coat of arms because he's currently NOT a political office holder.

Tbh, semi-literacy is a huge disease that befuddles the minds of the victims. Period.

The Ugbos who are ORIGINALLY from Ife but now in the oil and gas-rich Ilaje area of Ondo State are pure Yorubas and are the ones the Ooni of Ufe (Ife) was referring to here and not the Ibo tribe east of river Niger. It's crazy how people's comments get twisted by highly uninformed people. For those younger ones who don't know this, again the "Igbo" spelling is a very recently coined spelling that ONLY started creeping into the newspapers, books, etc, after the year 2000. Even in the 1990s, we ONLY used IBO officially in Nigeria and even abroad. In the over 100 years before that we ONLY LARGELY used IBO to denote the tribe east of river Niger. Period.

CultureRe: Igbo Migrated From Ife —Ooni Of Ife (2023 Article) by Konquest:
chopnaira:
This is beyond madness. The persistent attempts by certain individuals to insert the Igbo identity into Yoruba history are not just misleading—they are disgraceful and, frankly, sinister. A warning bell was rung decades ago. In a letter published in the Times Literary Supplement on 24 October 1975, D.A.N. Jones foresaw the confusion that could arise from shifting the spelling of “Ibo” to “Igbo”(see attached). He specifically used the example of Ijebu-Igbo to illustrate how such a change could distort geographical and historical understanding. What Jones could not have anticipated was the emergence of mischievous revisionists like @ChurchillNwagwu, whose objective seems less about historical clarity and more about historical colonization.

Here are the facts. Up until the mid-1970s, "Ibo" was the most commonly used spelling in literature and documentation. While variants such as "Igbo," "Heboe," and "Eboe" appear in texts, "Ibo" dominated most records. Regardless of spelling, the term was coined outside the present-day Igbo region. It was a label applied externally, mainly by slavers and slave traders. The earliest written reference to the name dates back to 1627, when Spanish priest Alonso de Sandoval used it in a list describing “a group of forty to fifty independent villages who recognized no king, fought regularly, often sold their women and children as slaves, and were all cannibals.” In several Niger Delta dialects, “Igbo” meant “slave,” and even among communities west of the River Niger, the term carried a similar derogatory connotation.

Because of its pejorative foreign origin, the term was rarely adopted as an ethnic self-identifier until much later. It was often used to describe “others,” “strangers,” or “slaves.” In Onitsha, for example, the term was commonly applied to people from the interior with a connotation of 'backwardness'. Even Nnamdi Azikiwe, in his 1930 article Fragments of Onitsha History, used “Igbo” to refer to neighboring tribes. It was only in the 20th century, with the rise of pan-ethnic consciousness, that the term was retroactively enriched with ethnic content to describe a unified Igbo identity.

In contrast, Yoruba history is well documented and internally consistent. As a group, the Yoruba had limited contact with the Igbo until the 1930s. Yet, in recent times, we are seeing audacious attempts by some Igbo writers to claim ancestral links to Ife, the spiritual home of the Yoruba. Entire books, authored even by PhD holders, have been written to justify this fantasy, often citing a single recent royal gaffe as their “evidence.” But the historical record contradicts them. The Ugbo people, whose name is often misappropriated in these narratives, still exist and are indisputably Yoruba. Their oral traditions and the Ife creation myth corroborate each other, firmly rooting them in Yoruba cosmology.

Moreover, Yoruba towns like Ijebu-Igbo, Igbo-Ora, and others being claimed by these revisionists predate any known use of “Igbo” as an ethnic identifier in southeastern Nigeria. These are towns with rich, established histories, well before any collective identity known as “Igbo” emerged in its current form.

This rewriting of history is not only intellectually dishonest - it is an act of cultural theft. To impose a fabricated narrative on Yoruba heritage in the name of “shared ancestry” or “common identity” is to erase the real histories of real peoples. And we will continue to resist all such attempt.
Succinctly stated.

But I MUST further emphasize here and now that the spelling IBO was still being widely used right from the late 1800s [when the great linguist and Anglican clergyman Bishop Samuel Ajayi Crowther wrote the FIRST EVER book in Ibo language in Onitsha entitled: "ISOAMA-IBO Primer" in 1855 and the book image is ATTACHED right BELOW] till after the year 2000 in major Nigerian newspapers such as Guardian, PUNCH, Daily Times, DRUM, etc, books, official government publications and more.

I still have newspapers, magazines, books and official goverment documentations from the 1960, 1970s, 1980s, 1990s right into the 2000s that widely used the spelling IBO. It was after the year 2000 that I started noticing "Igbo" creeping in gradually as the name of the tribe east of the river Niger. For the younger generation of Ibos who were still babies or not yet born in the 1980s right into the 1990s, they do NOT know or realize that newspaper and magazine publications ONLY used the spelling IBO and NOT "Igbo" to officially describe their collective subgroups. Even Achebe's books published in the 1960s right into the 1990s for instance all had IBO and not "Igbo!"

Some of us who are older in age find it very amusing when some of these younger Ibos come online to start correcting others by saying the spelling of their tribe is "Igbo" and not IBO and I'm like, "Does this person even know that the alternate spelling "Igbo" as the name of the tribe east of river Niger is a very recent creation that gained traction ONLY after the year 2000?"

I still use IBO in my posts because that is what we widely used to denote a tribe back in the day and NOT this newer spelling of Igbo. IGBO as a spelling was ORIGINALLY FIRST used by ONLY the Yorubas and had been a Yoruba spelling right from the Yoruba-English Dictionaries published back in the early 1800s (1843).

One of the most past Editors of Vanguard at a point was Ibo, so, he simply allowed publications on the supposed ancestral origins and supremacy wars between Nri, Umueri (Umuleri) and Aguleri on who is the "real Ibo leader" to be published in that newspaper. I too noticed back in the 2000s that Vanguard had a habit of publishing all kinds of political opinions and baseless ancestral theories posted by others from the east of river Niger claiming FALSELY that they created some communities in Yorubaland which has NO historic basis because the irresponsible Aguleri chiefs who allegedly said so did NOT know that Iponri in Surulere in Lagos State was ONLY founded as an Awori-Yoruba family settlement in the 1880s and had NOTHING to do with any ancient Nri migration. Aguleri itself was only established 400 years ago as revealed or EXPOSED by the Umueri account which contradicted the Aguleri claims of being older. So, these guys just have a habit of sitting down in one dingy corner to fabricate all kinds of random and highly dubious tales to fill in the BLANK spaces of the histories they NEVER had.

Unveiling Africa's Hidden History: 5 Groundbreaking Discoveries

For centuries, the rich and diverse history of Africa has been overlooked, undervalued, and often intentionally distorted. However, recent archaeological and historical findings have shattered these misconceptions, revealing a continent with a profound and fascinating past.

Here are 5 remarkable discoveries that showcase Africa's significant contributions to human history:

1. The Cradle of Humanity: Africa is the birthplace of humanity, with the oldest known skeletal remains of anatomically modern humans discovered in East Africa, dating back to 195,000 years.

2. Prehuman Origins: Prehuman skeletons found in Africa date back an astonishing 4-5 million years, with the oldest known ancestral type of mankind, Australopithecus ramidus, living around 4.4 million years ago.

3. Pioneers of Fishing: Africans were the first to organize fishing expeditions, with evidence of finely crafted harpoon tips and daggers discovered in Katanda, Congo, dating back to 90,000 years ago.

4. Mining and Innovation: The oldest known mine in the world was discovered in Swaziland, dating back to 43,000 years ago. This ancient mine showcases the ingenuity and innovative spirit of Africa's ancestors.

5. Mathematical Pioneers: The Ishango bone, discovered in Congo, is a tool handle with engraved notches that demonstrate a sophisticated understanding of arithmetic, dating back to 25,000 years ago.

These discoveries not only rewrite the history books but also underscore the significant contributions Africa has made to human civilization. It is essential that we continue to uncover and celebrate Africa's rich cultural heritage, challenging the misconceptions of the past and inspiring a new generation of scholars, historians, and enthusiasts.

I detest it when some people just criticize others online and offline during TV or radio phone-in programs to defame and throw insults at the technocrats and political office holders while FAILING to give sustainable solutions themselves which I've simply done here.

Tbh though, Ogun State has been a significant underachiever over the years but the geopolitical dynamics between that state and any other state are completely different so we cannot use the economic parameters of one State to judge another.

So, Gov. Dapo and his Commissioners have to double up and take charge of how to deploy CNG infrastructure in Ogun State since he himself is an oil and gas mogul and owner of Heyden in order to drop the cost of transportation and food prices.

While I must comment Dapo on the Gateway International Agro Cargo Airport construction in Iperu-Remo, he has to make use of the Ogun State bitumen resource and even limestones reserves turned to cement to tar the roads through his Commissioners who are infact the ones to implement these things.

Lagos State is ALSO currently building the Epe Central Agric Logistics Hub which is gonna be the largest in Africa to lower the price of food by 50% in Lagos under the watch of the Commissioner of Agriculture Ms Olusanya who announced this in May 2025. Lagos already has an Agric Food Hub in Idi-Oro Mushin where food items are sold straight from the farms at 25% lower than the current costs. Ogun State can copy this same model as well.

So, you need highly imaginative Governors and State Commissioners (who are positively angry and disgusted at being classified or seen as significant underachievers over the years) in order to develop economically and socially using disruptive strategies. I just think Dapo Abiodun and his team of advisers and Commissioners do NOT have that sustainable sense of urgency yet.

Even Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu should have released the CNG buses he promised by now (and even since 2023) if he has a sense of urgency in order to lower the cost of transportation and more but they are still stalling and pussyfooting despite the launch by NNPCL of some CNG fuel stations in Lagos. Having a sense of urgency usually triggers creativity and when funds (loans or cash at hand) are added in the mix, you become truly unstoppable.

Last but not least, Dr. Kayode Opeifa (the former Commissioner of Transportation in Lagos State) who is now the current boss of NRC said the trains are gonna be refitted with CNG-FUELED convertions, so this would ALSO CLEARLY lower the cost of operations for the Nigerian Railway Corporation by 70% and
improve goods haulage and transportation of people and hence reduce the pressures and accidents on the roads such as the Lagos-Ibadan expressway
, etc.

This is what I've hoped for since the early 1980s. A total strike at the jugular of the Shiite leadership in Iran. These guys have sponsored multiple terror attacks worldwide and it's time to go take all of them down.

No terror sponsors worldwide MUST be allowed to gain access to nuclear weapons technologies otherwise mankind will revered to fighting with "sticks, stones, and bones."

The huge Iranian Diaspora in the United States will be happy with this development. The new Iran MUST be known globally for peaceful technologies development down the road because they are brilliant people.

Iran... The land of Cyrus the Great (Shah han Shah or King of Kings) of the Persian Empire, will be restored to a new era.

Iranian TV hosts and staff have all been asked to put on black arm bands to express mourning state

Israel has had confirmed they know the current underground locations of Iran supreme leader Ali Khamenei and him being moved from one location to another, and they will come for him too when the time is right
This is a very BIG deal and should have been done a long time ago. Iran is a rogue state under the Shiite rulers with their constant fueling of tensions in the Middle East and the world. Political correctness MUST NEVER prevent us from taking prompt actions against those who threaten the peace of mankind.

I would like to see the total elimination of the Shiite leadership in Iran and the total liberation of Iran from these vile men who have sponsored terror groups in Gaza, Hezbollah in Lebanon, Houthies in Yemen, and even provided logistics to African Shiite groups since the Shah of Iran was removed in 1979 and the Iranian Shiites came in with Ayatollah Khomeini.

We MUST NOT allow Iran under the dangerous Shiite leadership to have weapons of mass destruction leading to the sharing of the knowledge of nuclear energy knowledge with terror groups as that would be bad for mankind.

A new Iran WITHOUT the current Shiite rulers MUST be encouraged to develop advanced technologies for peaceful means alone (like it currently has) and NOT for fueling terror. Period

Agreed. But when we call it "Trumped up" charges, we trivialize and are insensitive to the lives of the chiefs.

Just imagine if endsars protesters coincidentally found Tinubu and killed him in 2020.. NK supporters would have said he wasn't directly the cause but BAT's relatives and kinsmen would have sought for justice, which is why proper trial would have been best.

Our people must learn to be civil, even in activism.

No life is inferior to another.
May peace reign in Ogoni land.
Just for CLARITY, I stated CLEARLY in my post right ABOVE that the 4 Ogoni Chiefs were indeed killed.

Ken Saro-Wiwa himself was NOT even allowed into Ogoniland on the day the Chiefs were killed in 1994
and Ken strongly denied the FALSE claims that he incited Ogoni people linked to MOSOP to kill the 4 Chiefs.

Some of those people who originally accused Ken Saro-Wiwa and his co-defendants of the murder at the military tribunal later recanted their testimonials and said they made those FALSE allegations against Ken after being bribed. This is the reason why I stated that Ken was tried and sentenced to death based off of "trumped up" charges and NOT to trivialize the memories of the 4 Ogoni Chiefs. These specifics have been known to the whole world since 1995.

I guess a lot of states simply don't have the funds to allocate to it.
It is bad but the sad reality
Succinctly stated.

Lagos State is a leader in that aspect of being up to date with the acquisition of modern heavy cranes and rescue equipment.

Some posters here are just huffing and puffing while criticizing Prince Dapo Abiodun and Ogun State BUT does Ogun State currently have the same cash flow or financial muscle that Lagos State or Rivers State have? On the other hand, Ogun State can partner with Lagos State to deploy their rescue equipment whenever urgently needed on that road. Ultimately, since the Lagos-Ibadan expressway is a Federal Government road, a PPP system can be put in place to ensure that these heavy rescue equipment are made available on and that would require tolling for sustainability. The removal of the toll gates by former President Obasanjo was the beginning of the degeneration of Nigerian Federal roads down the years. Worldwide, important roads get tolled to ensure long-term maintenance.

Ogun State must speed up the exploration of her bitumen deposits within the "bitumen belt" (which is the 2nd largest bitumen reserve in the world after that of Canada, extending from Lagos, Ogun Ondo and Edo States. The bitumen reserves in Nigeria is in FACT more than the oil reserves in Nigeria) including the Ogun State oil and gas deposits onshore and offshore in order to be able to flex muscles and purchase accident and rescue equipment like Lagos State.

Honestly this comes with mixed feelings for me. I don't think Ken Saro Wiwa was totally innocent of his offense. I only felt bad that he was not properly tried. The Ogoni Chiefs were truly murdered...The argument was "was their death caused by rhetoric from Ken &co?"

Community members, witnesses and the court would have been better to judge this!

I love as they were pardoned and not exonerated, though.

All the same. All parties must be acknowledged for peace to reign in Ogoni land.
Indeed, the Ogoni Chiefs were murdered but that served as a perfect opportunity or excuse for that vile man called Abacha to take his pound of flesh on Ken Saro-Wiwa for his blunt environmental activisms in the Niger Delta way before the Ijaws fully started their militancy. Ken Saro-Wiwa and the others were eliminated very quickly on largely trumped up charges.

I believe that Sani Abacha knew he was gonna die from the terminal liver disease condition he had, so he took fatalistic decisions and that's why appeals to him from the United States and the United Kingdom governments were ignored in the face of more looming economic and travel sanctions with Chief Tom Ikimi annoyingly defending the convictions of the Ogoni icons in the face of international and local appeals. I still get stunned a bit whenever I recall the horrendous events back in the military rule years of the 1990s which led to the execution of Ken Saro-Wiwa because I've read and still have some of his books in my personal libraries, so Ken's thought process and historical musings were close to my state of consciousness (just like other iconic writers of books I've read over the decades of my existence in the physical world), and we all hoped for a lighter sentence.

I'm on the same page with you that the Ogoni Chiefs (and all others) must be acknowledge to bring internal healing and peace to Ogoniland in addition to the Ogoni environmental reclamations moving forward.

Cheers.

@Yemre,

I think PMB was not even tough enough on those criminal defamers during his Presidency who posted nasty things online about him and had a habit of calling into live phone-in programs on NigeriaInfo, Lagos for instance which I monitor online from my base here to say that he is "jubril from Sudan." Jimi Disu and Sheriff Quadry were aghast one early morning that the relentless callers (mostly the Ibos east of river Niger based in Lagos) were phoning to deliberately spew ipob propaganda and disinformation on live radio being beamed worldwide by saying the man in Aso Rock wasn't Buhari but an alleged clone. It was a total abuse of air time or radio space laced with toxic hate speech and deliberate disinformation.

Who cherry picking anything? The massive disinformation ure talking about starting from apc in 2014 election spreading lies and hate against the incumbent government and Goodluck Jonathan administration or do u need to be reminded?

This hateful rhetoric started from apc so tinubu shouldn't complain about the demonising politics he created.

There are worst pictures all over the Internet. Jonathan didn't arrest these apc miscreants so stop ur hypocrisy.
I have a VERY strong memory or power of recall.

The major thrust of my post was to let you see that these online and offline political exchanges and hate speech was NOT a one-sided thing like you tried to portray by focusing on APC members alone. The PDP supporters originally triggered it due to the FACT that they had Federal Government might back in the day from the OBJ years to the GEJ years, and if you say otherwise in the face of CLEAR FACTS posted on several past Nairaland threads towards the years 2010 to 2011 Presidential election cycles, then you are engaging in accute "confirmation bias." I have a very strong aversion for dishonest people and despite NOT having direct membership or affiliations with those 2 political parties of APC or PDP, I will ALWAYS point out the historical FACTS here! This post will serve as my last conversation with you on this topic as I hate needless back-and-forth convos because I cherish my time more than anything on Earth. I will simply add further clarifications to my post which you quoted for YOU or ANYBODY reading this to further FACT-CHECK.

I've been a savvy-user of the Internet since 1995 and have been a veteran member of this same NL discussion forum since 2005, so I know FULL well the time period or timeline these incitements and political toxic hate speech started online and on the NL Website from back in the 2010 to 2011 Presidential election cycles and it increased viciously towards the 2014 to 2015 Presidential election cycles. It was this same toxic defamation of character by the PDP that led the now President 'Bola Ahmed Tinubu to sue the late Raymond Dokpesi's DAAR Communications in 2015 to court for billions of Naira for showing repeatedly on AIT a series of PDP lies and propaganda documentary videos (fully paid for by PDP) to defame and tarnish 'Bola Tinubu's political image. The court found AIT guilty (but through the lawyer, Mike Ozekhome's influence, an out-of-court settlement was reached with Tinubu's legal team) so the judge instructed Africa Independent Television (AIT) to apologize to the now President 'Bola Tinubu on their TV station and ALSO CLEARLY publish full-page letters of apologies in 2 leading newspapers to 'Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

So, there is a VERY strong digital trail of incriminating evidence from 2010 to 2011 on NL (before the year 2014 that you incorrectly quoted in your post incriminating members of the PDP in online hate speech and offline intimidations because PDP had the Federal Government might at that time). Even the former President Olusegun Obasanjo refered to the PDP as a "Nest of killers" when he was the President due to the fact that he had credible information that some PDP members hired people to engage in political assassinations or murders of rivals within and outside the party. It was that bad and these FACTS can be found with simple "Google searches" as a FACT-CHECK of what I've stated right here and now.

Just as I stated in my post, Olisa Metuh who was a spokesperson of the PDP back then was responsible for creating the insidious and TACTLESS term "janja.weed party" to demonize the APC leadership and members and that term "janja.weed" was openly derogatory because of its linkage to the war crimes and rapes of innocent Dafur women in North Sudan. The "APC Data Center" in Ikeja, Lagos State was ALSO ruthlessly invaded under orders from "higher authorities" by the DSS operatives in 2014 and for NO cogent reasons till today, and the workers in the APC Data Center were beaten up and arrested with several doors, computers, documents, and several items being destroyed during Goodluck Jonathan's Presidency and the major media outlets widely reported this event with vivid pictures splashed on the front pages of newspapers showing the destructions of equipment in that APC Data Center. Merilyn Ogar, the then DSS spokesperson gave very lame reasons to justify the irresponsible intimidations of APC members. So, there were official intimidations of the opposition parties many times (in Abuja, Osun, Ekiti, and Anambra States as well, etc) and these elicited VERY strong editorial reviews and condemnations of the DSS under the PDP Presidency of GEJ, from the Punch, and other independent media outlets. GEJ may or may not have directly sanctioned these brutalities, but people under him did WITHOUT a shadow of doubt.

Last but NOT least, both PDP members and APC members should have been criticized equally in your post instead of demonizing ONLY APC and that's the MAJOR thrust of my submission in emphasizing that you were cherry-picking. In Rivers State alone, many APC members were killed by obviously PDP goons without justice till today [and Rivers State was labeled "Rivers of Blood" because of many political killings there]. I strongly detest dishonesty and intimidations of any kind and this is why I always fight for the truth which is far liberating than anything you can think of. Period.

yemre:
You are actually very right, but you see, you don't stop to throw stones at every dogs that barks. PBAT has been able to grow thick skin against them so whatever they say, write or do has no effect on him.
@yemre

Indeed, constructive criticisms that offer solutions are very OK, BUT you don't take B.S from those who deliberately spread massive disinformation with the hiring of paid troll farms such as the thousands of recruited paid ipob troll farms located in Nigeria, North America, Europe, Asia, South Africa, etc, that the "BBC Global Disinformation Team" investigative video of 2022 (which is still online) EXPOSED for using free laptops, free mobile phones, free Internet data, and free monetary inducements to destabilize Nigeria since 2013 (and even prior to that year) using FB, YouTube, X, WhatsApp, and even NL to stir up deep ethnic tensions, and trigger ethnic war. I've been a veteran user and member of NL for 20 years now and I know how things degenerated on NL till date with the influx of these paid troll farms (using well-known and fake monikers on NL) and other Internet platforms.

It's NOT about growing a thick skin against these criminally defamatory posts alone. The heavy disinformation and FAKE news about Tinubu actually affected his chances during the Presidential election cycle of 2023 like I accurately predicted it would over 10 years before that election cycle because Tinubu was too laid back and over tolerant. He lost by 3000 votes in Lagos State to the Labor Party guy, and narrowly lost in Osun State to Atiku Abubakar of PDP while he struggled in several Southern States and some far North States. The FAKE accusations that Bola Tinubu is or was ever a drug baron has since 1993 and then in 2003 been debunked by the United States Government. In 2003, the United States Embassy in Lagos through the Legal Attache Michael Bonner affirmed CLEARLY in an official correspondence that to the Nigerian investigators that the then Governor Bola Ahmed Tinubu has NEVER been convicted in the United States and his name is NOT on the list of the FBI National Crime Information Center (NCIC) which is the central database of ALL arrests and convicted criminals in the United States. I have ATTACHED the 2003 United States Embassy document BELOW. Yet these bigots and paid trolls right on NL keep recycling the FAKE "drug baron" story for more than 15 years now because of partisan politics and clannish tribalism and Tinubu in his knowledge thinks this is the Old School era when you can take things lightly... He is honestly mistaken and keeps making things difficult for those who want to support him BUT he doesn't take action to punish some offenders like he did to Raymond Dokpesi's DAAR Communications in 2014 for defaming him in series of PDP propaganda documentaries and he sued DAAR for billions of Naira.

Mass disinformation on the Internet and social media spreads very fast and if it's NOT nipped in the bud quickly with punishments meted out to some of the most serious offenders to serve as a deterant, then you're gonna have a lot of problems with your damaged image. This is why when the BBC official Website was cloned and fake news was uploaded on the cloned site, the BBC World Service boss said it took 21 days for them to detect the fake Website because people alerted them to it and this is why BBC started their FACT-CHECKING news team.

I hope that gives you more insights into my POV.

Nigerian archaeologist Babalola wins $300,000 Dan David Prize

Nigerian archaeologist Abidemi Babatunde Babalola has been selected as a 2025 Dan David Prize winner.

The Dan David Prize, endowed by the Dan David Foundation and headquartered at Tel Aviv University, is the largest history prize in the world.

The Dan David Prize was first established in 2001 by the late entrepreneur and philanthropist Dan David, to reward innovative and interdisciplinary work that contributed to humanity.

Each year, up to nine researchers are awarded $300,000 each in recognition of their achievements and to support their future endeavors.

In a statement to The Nation, the award organisers said: “Babalola has used material science to uncover the history of technological development in premodern West Africa.

“His research showed that glass production in Africa predated European colonialism and was developed independently. Babalola is active in public outreach in Nigeria, bringing the knowledge he produces through archaeological work to the communities that are connected to this history.

“He served as lead archaeologist ahead of construction of the upcoming Museum of West African Arts set to open in Benin City, Nigeria this year.”

The nine 2025 Dan David Prize winners, whose work explores the human past through exceptional scholarship and research, will each receive $300,000 (USD) in recognition of their achievements and to support their future endeavors.

The nine winners, all in early and mid stages of their career, are researchers and filmmakers who work in Africa, Asia, Europe and the Americas.

The winners are selected after an open nomination process by a global committee of historians that changes annually.

This year’s selection committee members are affiliated with leading academic institutions including the University of Toronto, the Cyprus Institute, and the University of Cambridge.

“The work of this year’s winners ranges from enlisting the methods of archaeology to explore Nazi death camps to rewriting what we know about the development and use of glass in Africa,” said Ariel David, board member of the Prize and son of Dan David, the founder of the Prize.

“By making groundbreaking discoveries or applying new methods to historical research, our winners constantly challenge us to think about the past while rethinking how we shed light on it.

“We are also particularly excited that two winners this year work in the film industry, helping bring scholarly findings to broader audiences and thus highlighting the importance of historical research for society at large.”

In addition to authoring academic articles, Babalola – a research archaeologist at the British Museum – is active in public outreach in Nigeria, bringing the knowledge he produces through archaeological work to the communities that are connected to this history.

He served as lead archaeologist ahead of construction of the upcoming Museum of West African Arts set to open in Benin City, Nigeria this year.

Other winners include: Mackenzie Cooley, Hamilton College; Bar Kribus, Tel Aviv University; Fred Kudjo Kuwornu, Do the Right Films; Dmitri Levitin, University of Utrecht and All Souls College, Oxford; Beth Lew-Williams, Princeton University; Hannah Marcus, Harvard University; Alina Șerban, Founder of Untold Stories; and Caroline Sturdy Colls, University of Huddersfield.

“We’re delighted to add another nine outstanding individuals to our growing community of scholars, curators and filmmakers from around the globe,” said Professor Tim Cole, historian and Academic Advisor to the Dan David Prize.

“They will join the 27 previous winners who, together, research varied aspects of the human past. The originality of the questions being asked and the methods deployed show how archaeologists and historians are creatively working within and across disciplines to offer new understandings of our collective past.”

The 2025 winners recently received the Prize at a gathering in Italy.
