You tried small but the gap is glaring.

Clearing of forest is a small issue if at all is a valid reason for neglect.

Lagos Calabar road project cannot be justified in anyway. The map clearly shows it wont present any special advantage to the south. It is only coastal in Lagos, runs through mostly forests that dont connect major coastal towns, inflated in cost(see cairo-cape town), has inflated rent cost via cement connection. Will be tolled, likely insecure because coastal waters is a good getaway means for criminals.
First off, Coastal Highways or Coastal Roads are NOT in effect supposed to run fully along a coastline. The roads can veer off the coastline a few kilometers inland and then come back again. The states to be connected by the highway are located on the coast (or called coastal states) and this is why the highway is called Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway. It doesn't mean that the road MUST run entirely along the shoreline or coastline which would be very IRRESPONSIBLE to construct because some of the terrains are very difficult to navigate. I like seeing people proffer solutions to obvious problems and NOT complaining endlessly. It's in offering solutions to problems that people worldwide make money and become multimillionaires and USD billionaires. As a well-traveled, older man who was alive when Shehu Shagari was President from 1979, I remember that the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway project was planned during his time and each Federal Government has toyed with it and kept pushing it forward up till the GEJ years when he was serious about it but he too didn't start it.

So, it's good that the President Tinubu administration is starting it because the costs of construction will keep going up every year UNLESS you start construction NOW. It was really irresponsible that the past Presidents didn't start this highway construction on time. Yes, it will be tolled and that's the global standard in many of the countries I have flown to globally... Roads are tolled. Former President OBJ did a major disservice to Nigeria by removing the tollgates and this is when all the Nigerian roads began to embarrassingly collapse. You need the roads to be self-financing through toll collections so that it will be easy for agricultural produce haulage trucks and other forms of interstate transportation can thrive.

Last but NOT least, let me inform you that it's a well-known fact in developmental economics that in times of economic recessions or economic restructurings, that is when you carry out massive constructions and investments in projects with long-term FUNDS. I have a video on one of my threads from one of the greatest American economists and World Bank advisers (Jeffery Sachs) who has ALSO given lectures to African Union members in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, and he emphatically said the same thing!

Countries such as the United States and more spend (and will continue to spend) their ways out of economic recessions NOT hoarding money for infrastructure development. When the economy begins to recover, the new infrastructure that have been built such as the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway and other legacy projects would enable the economy to boom faster. ONLY an irresponsible President or State Governor would NOT spend money on building new critical infrastructure in times of economic recessions so that once the economy begins to look up, those new infrastructure would stimulate the country-specific economy at a FASTER pace.

That era was a total disaster in governance. They blocked every other person from accessing the loan and asked others to go and do it online . Really nepotic .. imagine Kaduna whose southern Kaduna farmers couldn't go to farm during that era topping the chat
The disbursements of Agric loans have to be monitored and made a level-playing field affair from here on out.

All parts of Nigeria have agricultural potentials with the growing annual populationd and it's highly irresponsible that indigenous Southern Kaduna farmers who came under relentless attacks by foreign Fula bandits under the watch of that former Governor Nasir El-Rufai (who bluntly told a Channels Television crew that his Fulani ancestor migrated to Nigeria from Guinea Conakry after the Fula jihad) could NOT farm easily but Kaduna still was in the top 10 of beneficiaries of the loans.

This current Tinubu Presidency must immediately remedy the situation and make future funds disbursements to genuine farmers are digitally and transparently done. That would endear him to more folks in Nigeria just like I heard and saw a video stating that commercial farmers in the violence-prone Birnin Gwari have since gone back and are making billions of Naira from growing and harvesting several bags of crops.

Rice Farmer A.K.A. APC foot soldiers looters.

No MB state there. Kwara, Kogi, Nasarawa, Plateau, Benue, Taraba. None made the top 10. Woooooooww

When will broda Yekini wake up and assist cocoa or coffee farmers or southerners expand their fields?
Niger State is a prominent Middle Belt state and is number 2 on that list of the Anchor Borrowers Program beneficiaries that was attached by the OP @Biodun.

Second, it costs far MORE money to CLEAR the thicker forests in the South of Nigeria than in the North of Nigeria
where you have more Sahelian vegetation and more dry season farming.

Oyo State has the largest landmass of all the States in Southern Nigeria followed by Cross Rivers State in the second position, therefore it's important for the Tinubu Presidency to actively encourage the clearing of more lands in the Southern States so that more hybrid cocoa, cashew, coffee, oil palm, plantain, yams, etc, can be grown in addition to the use of hydrophonics, aquaponics and greenhouse farming. Hybrid cows can also be imported and crossbred with local cows to yield more milk and meat like Ekiti State is doing and WAMCO has fresh milk collection facilities from cow owners in Oyo State.

Lagos State is currently building the largest in Africa, Agricultural Central Logistics Hub in Epe with the plan to drastically drop the cost of foods in Lagos State by 50% as revealed in May 2025 by the female Commissioner of Agriculture for Lagos State (Ms. Olusanya). Currently 25% food price reduction has been achieved from the Idi-Oro Mushin Mini Agric Hub. So, folks in the South of Nigeria and especially the West of Nigeria MUST NOT continue to depend on the far North of Nigeria for food supplies. That'll amount to perpetual enslavement! The start of the long-expected Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway by a Southern President is a blessing because Presidents from other regions kept on postponing the construction since it was proposed originally in the Shagari Presidency of 1979 to 1984.

Therefore, Tinubu MUST ensure that more funds are pumped into making the ecosystem of the South of Nigeria more agriculturally sustainable.

While I'm against APC taking in too many politicians from other political parties that are currently in disarray and factionalized (due to a lack of internal democracy and greed within those parties), I absolutely believe that they should work on rebuilding their so-called parties or implode instead of cross-carpeting. In a worse-case scenario, APC should ONLY take the BEST of those politicians who want to leave their old parties and integrate them seamlessly with existing APC members in each state.

On the other hand, there's absolutely NOTHING honorable in what that former SSA has done by resigning. What does he mean by "turning Nigeria into a one-party state?" That's one of the MOST ridiculous statements I've ever heard in the current Nigerian political cycle. This former SSA guy just wanted to leave in order to do something else with his life and had to give a very lame or silly excuse as his reason for leaving. There's NOTHING to applaud here that's honorable in what he did as WRONGLY alluded to by some of the highly insidious and impressionable NL posters (who notoriously make knee-jerk reactions) here from Page 1.

During the "raging bull in a China shop" OBJ Presidency and PDP years, there were cross-carpetings but that didn't totally turn Nigeria into a one-party country because you still had Action Congress, Alliance for Democracy, APGA, etc, how much more right now when you have a current President (who is even more liberal and forgiving of indiscretions than former President Obasanjo who ALSO refered to his own political party the PDP as "a NEST of killers" because of the political assassinations of prominent PDP and non-PDP politicians in some states in Nigeria that were planned from within the PDP party by renegade politicians).

I remember reading in Punch newspaper that a lot of the Katsina rice farmers were unpatriotic and were exporting the locally grown rice (achieved with funds got from the Anchor Borrowers Program loans in Nigeria) to Niger Republic thereby contributing to the scarcity of rice under the Buhari Government. The major news outlets such as Punch reported this unpatriotic act of farmers from Buhari's adoped home state of Katsina.

So, it's very CLEAR that the people and a large number of the highly ignorant masses that accuse the governments of not doing anything are FAR WORSE than the politicians and technocrats in government because these people relentlessly sabotage the Nigerian economy and this is where laws have to be implemented to the letter to deal with these subsets of saboteurs who hoard food commodities and sell at a higher price of 60 to 100% ONLY to blame government for high costs of items.

I am not a close Sowore fan cos I feel that he sometimes overdoes but a full picture must be painted here so that some kids won't now start running around with the narrative that Sowore has no result. He actually did a re-sit and passed by the image attached. And no, there was no special examination centres in the 80s'. I guess he realized himself and prepared better for WAEC his re-sit.

Media personality and presidential candidate of African Action Congress, Omoyele Sowore has explained why he performed poorly in his West African Senior School Certificate Examination.

The media personality in a Facebook post that served as his response to the controversy which the documents he submitted to the Independent National Electoral Commission generated, said "it was how it ended after that first attempt".

Sowore however said he took a "second stab at WASCE at a different high school before securing enough credits to gain admission into the university."

He said;
Yesterday I uploaded my education credentials meant to be submitted to INEC Nigeria today as nominations close for Presidential candidates running in the 2023 Presidential Election.

Many have asked why I performed so woefully in my first attempt at the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASCE), well, it was how it ended after that first attempt.
I did state that I took a second stab at WASCE at a different high school before securing enough credits to gain admission into the university.

I just couldn't give up until I made it and got admitted into UNILAG in 1989 to study Geography and Planning. In fact, my late dad demoted me by asking that I go back to "Class 4" after that woeful result I posted yesterday. After securing admission into UNILAG I had to combine the two results to get matriculated.
I appreciate the engagement provoked by sharing my not-too-good WASCE/GCE result yesterday.

Thanks!

He did remarkable well in bouncing back with his academics, BUT these days you have to FACT-CHECK Omoyele Sowere and his Sahara Reporters because of the many deliberate acts of embarrassing disinformation Omoyele spreads or allows on his online platform.

This wasn't how Sahara Reporters was back in the early 2000s. It was a credible, and major source of investigative reports back then till the late 2010s (after he lost his younger brother in the hands of kidnappers) when FALSEHOODS started creeping in to manipulate people. It's highly disrespectful to folks like me and those who have followed Omoyele's revolutionary activities right from the year 1990.

PoliticsRe: Coastal Road :akwa Ibom & Cross River Indigenes Protest Distance From Coastline by Konquest: 2:28am On Jun 09, 2025
Ntigha:
Some indigenes of Cross river and Akwa Ibom states which constitutes the section 3A & 3B respectively have voiced out their concerns over the alignment of the Lagos - Calabar COASTAL HIGHWAY in the States which they claim is very deep into the forest in the hinterlands .

Some of the residents of the states lamented that being a coastal highway and with the construction going on in Lagos along the coastlines in the south-west in which the highway there is aligned close to the shorelines, it was expected that the same closeness to the sea shore would be followed in their respective states

Speaking on the construction of the coastal highway in Akwa Ibom , state a resident of Eket Mr. Sunday Abasekong lamented that one of the advantages of the highway that was sold to Nigerians was that being close to the seaside it would boost tourism in the states bordering Nigeria’s coastline, but instead of the coastal roads passing through coastal areas like Eket and kwa Iboe they moved it hinterland more than 40 kilometers into the forest and that the alignment of the road in Akwa Ibom has nothing to do with the coastline.

Another resident of the state Mr Iwang said the alignment of the road was expected to pass closer to the the coastal communities which would invariably expose and promote the tourism potential of the state like the Ibeno beach, as Akwa Ibom has some of the most beautiful beaches in the world, and it is on record that the state has the longest and beautiful shoreline or beach in Nigeria and the passage of this coastal road close to the coast would have boosted commercial , business and real estate economy of the state like in Lagos.

A resident of kwa Iboe Mrs Janet peter asked what is a coastal road doing 40km away from the shoreline in deep forest in areas like Afaha and Aba Ekpe that are very far away from the coast. Some of the residents spoken to claimed that the coastal highway was just to boost real estate development in the southwest states like Lagos and Ogun states without consideration for other south - south states, they said they are sure that in states like Bayelsa Rivers and delta same thing would happen where the coastal road will pass through the hinterlands too instead of the coastal communities..

Mr. Tony who resides in the city of calabar the Cross River State capital shared the same view with his Akwa Ibom state neighbors and asked “ if you say you are building a coastal road in Cross river state that will run along the coastline what is the road looking for in a place like Akamkpa about 50km away from the coast when you have coastal towns that are faraway from the present proposed location of the coastal highway ?” I believe the road would stop being a coastal road immediately the Lagos section is completed” he said.

In response to why the roads cannot be constructed close to the shoreline or coastal areas, the Honourable Minister of works David Umahi has come out to explain that due to the terrain it would be difficult to and very expensive to construct the coastal highway very close to the coast like in Lagos and Ogun, and also the number of bridges that would be required would be enormous, and at another forum while giving his speech said that the road construction in these forest areas would open them up bringing in new towns and developments along the roads.

Meanwhile [/b]some south south indigenes are saying if the coastal road is not going to run close to the shore like in Lagos the fedetal government does not need to waste money building another road that would run through the forest areas, all they need to do is pour a fraction of the trillions that has been budgeted for the coastal road into maintaining and upgrading the already existing road and putting in place proper security to ensure travellers safety.[/b]

PoliticsRe: Tinubu Govt Awards Oil Blocks To Firm Registered Eight Days Before Bidding by Konquest: 2:15am On Jun 09, 2025
ogododo:
In December 2024, eight months after it was incorporated, Panout Oil and Gas Limited was awarded two oil blocks—PPL 300 and PPL 301-CS—in what the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC) hailed as a “keenly competitive process.”Nigerian cultural tours

On May 14, 2024, the Nigerian government made headlines when it announced the official start of bidding for oil blocks in the country as part of the 2024 marginal fields bid round.

Speaking at the Miami, Florida International Roadshow in May 2024, Gbenga Komolafe, Chief Executive of the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC), declared the bidding process officially open.Nigerian cultural tours

He also noted that although the exercise had first been announced on April 29, 2024, it marked a significant step forward in Nigeria’s strategic hydrocarbons development plan.

Nigerian cultural tours
The Bola Tinubu government called for applications to acquire 12 oil blocks and seven deep offshore assets.

Interestingly, SaharaReporters has learned that just eight days before this official commencement of bidding—on May 6, 2024—a company named Panout Oil and Gas Limited was registered with the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC). This newly formed company would later participate in bidding for oil block licenses in the same round and win two oil blocks.

By June 12, the government had further expanded the offer, announcing an increase in the number of oil blocks available in the 2024 marginal bid round.

However, a closer look at the bidding criteria published by the NUPRC has raised serious questions about how Panout Oil and Gas Limited—a company registered just two days before the official bid announcement—managed to secure two of the coveted oil blocks.

According to the pre-qualification guidelines available on the NUPRC website for the 2024 marginal bid round, the agency stated, "Prospective Bidder or Bidder which is a newly incorporated company in Nigeria, shall be qualified with the information of the parent company or aggregate information of its shareholders and their affiliates."Nigerian cultural tours

Checks, however, reveal that Panout was registered as an independent company with the CAC, not as a subsidiary of any other entity.

A review of the company’s beneficial ownership records in the CAC registry shows that only one individual—Alao Saheed Olatubosun—is listed as having significant control. In fact, the data indicates that he owns 100% of the shares, with no other shareholders or corporate ownership listed. This suggests that Panout is not linked to any parent company.

Regarding the requirement for "financial viability assurance," the NUPRC listed the following conditions: “Statement of Profit or Loss & Comprehensive Income; Statement of Financial Position (Balance Sheet); Statement of Change in Equity; Statement of Cashflow; Notes to the Accounts; Auditor’s Report; Management’s Discussion; Governance and Ownership Structures; Five (5) years of Financial Summary."

It remains unclear how a company that was only two days old before the bid announcement—and just eight months old when the winners were announced—was able to meet the NUPRC’s financial and documentation requirements.

Other conditions listed include evidence of a verifiable source of funding, which may be any of the following: Minimum average annual turnover of US$200 million for deep offshore; minimum average annual turnover of US$50 million for onshore and shallow water assets; minimum cash in bank of US$200 million for deep offshore; minimum cash in bank of US$50 million for onshore and shallow water assets; bank guarantee to the tune of US$200 million for deep offshore; bank guarantee of US$50 million for onshore and shallow water assets and a market capitalisation of not less than US$1 billion for deep offshore and US$200 million for other categories.

The sole listed owner of Panout, Alao Saheed Olatubosun, is also the Chief Executive Officer of Blueprint Business Technology, an IT firm.

A review of the company’s website by SaharaReporters found no evidence that Panout Oil and Gas Limited is listed as a subsidiary or affiliate of Blueprint Business Technology.

SaharaReporters attempted to reach the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC) through the contact number published on the 2024 licensing round portal, which is said to be operational 24 hours a day for inquiries. However, the line failed to connect.Nigerian cultural tours

As of the time this report was filed, text messages sent to the number seeking comment had not received a response.

There are 3 options for Musk:

1. He quits politics entirely and focuses his energies only on running his many businesses

2. He quits the Republican Party, but remains in politics and decides to create a 3rd party or support an independent candidate (something he has spoken of doing before and something which another Billionaire called Ross Perot tried in 1992 and it cost Republicans the Presidency which they lost to Bill Clinton)

3. He plays the long game and reconciles with Trump in anticipation of throwing his weight behind his own preferred Republican candidate in the 2028 U.S Presidential Elections.

I personally think he'll go for option 3, but nothing is guaranteed at the moment.

For one thing, he can never become a Democrat because they have spent the past decade demonising him as a Nazi, calling him a white supremacist and destroying Tesla car dealerships all over the United States.

Musk himself is forbidden from running for the Presidency of the United States because he is a first generation immigrant.

Under the American Constitution, a first-generation immigrant cannot run for the office of U.S. President.

The U.S. Constitution (Article II, Section 1) requires that the president be a "natural born Citizen" of the United States. This means the person must have been born a U.S. citizen, typically by being born on U.S. soil or to U.S. citizen parents abroad. First-generation immigrants, who are born outside the U.S. to non-citizen parents and later become citizens, do not meet this requirement.

Thanks for your quote

You are making a lot of assertions that are assumpions
Eg that Portuguese evolved as a sort of pidgin of Latin. That is unknowable

That there was a flow of words from Yoruba to Igbo. There are too many assumption

The greatest intellectual trait is the ability to separate beliefs from reality

Many of your assumptions about loan words require a lot more expertise than you have or at least are claiming to have

Linguistics does not operate at the superficial level

It is possible that there was One Language A Parent from which Igbo and Yoruba evolved thousands of years ago rather than that one borrowed from the other . Even if there was borrowing who borrowed and how can we know?
. Both are possible but it is important to be humble enough to acknowledge the limits of what one knows or does not know and not to fill in gaps with strong Assertions about things one cannot possibly know
Your feedback is in order because it's ALWAYS important to ask questions and then we can get rock solid illuminations on areas where blindspots exist in our body of knowledge. I gave some advanced book references in the body of my post that you quoted which you can easily read up.

I don't make assumptions because since 1981, I have collected a vast body of historical knowledge and books on world history and Nigerian history in my personal archives. More on that later.

My brief reference to Portuguese being a sort of pidgin Latin came from a series of BBC Documentary Reports I listened to back in the late 1990s that dealt with the history of the Iberian Peninsula (Spain and Portugal). Portuguese is a pidginized offshoot of Spanish as spoken by certain folks in the lower class and we know that Spanish has its roots in Latin or the "Romance languages" like you indicated in your post [with several Arabic-derived words in Spanish] due to the invasion and colonization of Spain for over 700 years by the Muslim Moorish invaders (the Muslim Berbers and Arab elements from North Africa) who were FINALLY expelled militarily from Spain (Al-Andulus) in 1492!

I have a vast body of archival materials in my personal home libraries that I have gathered right from the early 1980s (1981 to be precise) so you are NOT having a convo with a youngster here who is making wild assumptions BUT a well-traveled and well-read man. I have read the advanced books and historical works on advanced Yoruba history and archaeology from Nigeria's former Ambassador to Germany and historian, Professor Jide Osuntokun, the respected historian Prof Banji Akintoye, and many more scholars which shed more light on the pre-Oduduwa dynasty history and the past ancestors of modern Yorubas before Oduduwa was even born or even arrived in Ufe (Ife) from his original Yoruba home in the hilly Oke Ora (Oke means hill and Ora is the name of a Yoruba deity) just 8 miles away from Ife and he met older communities and people there. There were already autochthonous communities (Yoruba ancestors) existing in Ife, Ekiti, Ondo axis long before Oduduwa was even born according to the former Nigerian Ambassador to Germany, Emeritus Professor Akinjide Osuntokun and others in their advanced works. So, Oduduwa simply represents the rise of a new dynasty (3rd Dynasty) in Ufe (Ile Ife) and NOT that all Yoruba folks descended from him.

This is NOT an assumption. Yorubas and the people today collectively known as Ibos were NOT directly from one source in the Niger-Congo classification as alleged by earlier writers, and the late Attah of Igala, Michael Ameh Oboni clearly stated in the 2017 interview that the Igalas came into existence as a result of the fusion of a migrant group of people from Wukari with a significant number of Yorubas and Edos they met around the river Niger confluence and Idah axis. Igala language like I stated is up to 65% mutually intelligible with Yoruba. Even the folks called Ibos (Igbos) today are NOT of the same ancestry and are not of direct ancestral links with Yorubas within the last 1000 years. I have seen posts by folks from the Owerri or Southern part of the South East of Nigeria say this online (YouTube and NL) and even criticize the "Afa" as known in the Anambra area and instead regard "Odinani" as the real Ibo religion. What largely makes a person an Ibo is NOT about ancestry but about shared cultures.
That's the way they classify themselves based off of shared culture. The term Ibo evolved ONLY less than 150 years ago as a result of British Colonial influence and NOT that these fragmented subgroups such as the Ngwa, Owerre, Awka, Mbaise, Nsukka, etc, called themselves Ibo. The name Ibo (Igbo) was ORIGINALLY used back in time by the more advanced ethnic neighbors of these subtribes in the Ibo interior as a "derogatory" or "condescending" name because the people of the Ibo interior of the East of the river Niger were seen as primitive, engaged in cannibalism and were used as source of slaves sold to Aboh [by the Igalas who called these slaves "Onigbo" and elsewhere]. The Igalas contemptuously refered to the primitive tribes in the Ibo interior as "Onigbo, the Benin-Edos referred to them as "Igbon," the Asabas on the West of river Niger referred to them condescendingly as "Onye Ibo" all because the people were seen as bush dwellers who engaged in cannibalism and were used for slave labor. Period.

Succinctly stated.

The majority of far Northern Nigeria Muslim women (including the highly educated ones) DON'T shake hands with men even in public because it's forbidden! "I heard a well-spoken and educated Northern Nigeria Fula lady matter-of-factly say: "NO we don't do that" [i.e., shake hands] when a man I was with stretched his right hand out to thank her."

I FIRST saw that "hand shake" rejection scenario first-hand back in the late 1980s in one of the major commercial far Northern Nigeria cities and it was a significant culture shock for me. Ever since, I've learned to be more cautious among Northern Muslim women while in public so as NOT to offend their cultural and religious sensibilities.

In Spanish Language and Portuguese Language

The following words are examples the same

English Spanish Portuguese
Eat Comer Comer
Fish Pez Pez
Shop Tienda Tenda
Water Agua Agua

Spanish and Portuguese share almost 90% of their vocabulary REPEAT 90%

Because you as an Igbo person see what sounds or looks like your vocabulary does not mean the other person is speaking your language

A banana is not a type of plantain

The fact that Ogbakor means whatever in Igbo language does not mean i cannot mean the same thing in Ikwerre language or that if Ikwerre use it they must have borrowed it from you

These is a list of Yoruba words

Iba Fever
Ejire Twins
Okuta Stone

Afefe Breeze or wind

Apoti Box

Eti Nose

Ile House

Oka Corn
Enu Mouth

Apo Bag

Ile Ground

Imu Nose

There are very similar words in Igbo

What does that prove> That our ancestors were neighnbours . You cannot claim that because a word means the same thing in two different languages that one group owns it and the other is part of them

Ewure goat

Ibudo Settlement/ Small town

Eru Slave

Ibi Place

Bo Come

bo ibi Come here
bo wa ile (bowale) come home
@aribisala0

Impressive takes.

I like the FACT that you emphasized on the relationship between Portuguese and Spanish on one hand and the presence of LOAN WORDS from Yoruba language in central Ibo language. Portuguese itself evolved as a sort of pidgin latin as well.

We MUST NOT forget that historically, Igala language is classified as a Yoruboid language just like Itsekiris (who are ORIGINALLY made up directly of a central core of people from Yorubaland from Ijebu, Ife, and Ilaje). Ureju was founded by Ife migrants. Ode Itsekiri, Ogidigen, Omadino, etc, are Itsekiri communities originally founded by Ijebu people from over 700 years ago before Prince Ginuwa came from Benin with 70 of his lieutenants in the year 1480. The oil and gas-rich Ugborodo (formerly called Escravos was founded over 500 years by migrants from Ugbo in Ondo State, etc).

With reference to the Igalas, the Igalas are indigenous to Kogi State, Northern Enugu, Anambra, Delta North, etc, and in 2017, the late Attah of Igala emphasized in that Punch interview which is still online that Igala evolved from a fusion of migrants from Wukari now in Taraba who fused with a significant number of Yorubas and Edos they met around Idah. It's NOT surprising that Yoruba and Igala languages are mutually intelligible up to 65% with a lot of PURE Yoruba words of up to 65% found in Igala language with some having the same spelling while others have slight spelling alterations. The remaining words and vocabularies in Igala are from largely from Idoma language.

So, the few Yoruba words you see in Ibo (Igbo) are actually borrowed or LOAN WORDS directly from Yoruba and ALSO via Igalas since Igala folks are indigenous to Anambra State.

Egungun in Yoruba is spelled "Egwugwu" by Igalas in Igala-associated communities based off of dialectic pronounciations, Omi is Omi in Igala, Ogede in Yoruba is Ogede in Igala, Osu is Ochu in Igala meaning month, Ifa is Ifa in Igala, Akuko is Akuko in Ogun in Yoruba is Ogwu in Igala meaning medicine. These PURE Yoruba words in Igala ALSO CLEARLY leaked into central Ibo via the Anambra axis. The Igalas are well known to have been the one that introduced the red chieftaincy cap into the Nsukka area within the last 500 years. The red chieftaincy cap is NOT an indigenous Ibo cap but a Middle Belt cap worn by Yorubas, Igalas, Ebiras, Jukuns, etc, of the Middle Belt of Nigeria. An American who lecturered at University of Nigeria, Nsukka from the 1960s right to the 1970s ALSO CLEARLY stated in his book "The Ibo-Igala Land Border" that Yoruba and Igala hunters hunted in the Nsukka area together over 300 years ago which emphasizes the ancestral relationship or bloodlines between the Yorubas and Igalas through the common modern Kogi State land bridge with modern Anambra and Northern Enugu. Even the FULL name of the Igala cultural capital, Idah, which is "ONA IMUDA" [meaning the ROAD is blocked], emphasizing the blockage by the river Niger of the road/path/route taken by the early founders or migrants into modern Idah) has noticeable Yoruba words in it with ONA or road being very noticeable. "IDAH" is the shortened form of the full name "ONA IMUDA."

The Igala-associated communities who we know are Yoruboid in language are a major source of some of those few PURE Yoruba words found in Ibo language aside from those DIRECTLY borrowed from Yoruba language such as Egunsi (Egusi), Akara, Moyin-Moyin (The ORIGINAL Yoruba spelling is "Moyin-Moyin" BUT some contract it to "Moin-Moin" without letter Y) Agidi, Elubo, Agbada, Iba (fever), Okuta, Ewure are CLEARLY pure Yoruba words loaned into Ibo language as CLEARLY documented in the Longman Ibo-English Dictionary co-written decades back by an Ibo academic and linguist.

I have a screenshot of the Egusi entry in the Ibo-English Dictionary where it was CLEARLY indicated that the Ibo spelling Egwusi is a borrowed OR LOAN WORD from the "Yor" (YORUBA) and will attach it right BELOW. Parts of Ibo call Egunsi (Egusi) Elili.

NO doubt the indigenous Igala presence in the Igala-associated communities of modern Anambra (via Eri the son of Achado and his descendants), Northern Enugu, Delta North, etc, are CLEARLY partly responsible for the inflow of these Yoruba words into Ibo lexicon and we MUSTN'T forget that the great linguist and Anglican clergyman Bishop Samuel Ajayi Crowther wrote the FIRST EVER book in Ibo language entitled: "ISUAMA IBO - A Primer" in the 1850s while in Onitsha based off of his earlier works in creating the Yoruba language alphabet, Yoruba-English Dictionary and other Yoruba books as of 1843. Ajayi Crowther ALSO wrote a FIRST EVER book in the Igala language and Nupe language as well being a linguist.

PoliticsRe: Hurricane Tinubu Set To Sweep More States After Governor Eno’s Defection by Konquest:
yns4real:
Following the formal defection of Akwa Ibom State Governor, Umo Eno, to the All Progressives Congress on Friday, there are indications that more governors may soon defect from the Peoples Democratic Party to the APC.

Eno, after his defection, became the second PDP governor in the South-South region, after Governor Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta State, to join the APC in less than two months.

With the latest defection, there are 23 states with APC governors, 10 states with PDP, and one state each controlled by the All Progressives Grand Alliance, Labour Party, and the New Nigeria People’s Party.

The spotlight is now on Governors Ahmadu Fintiri of Adamawa State, Peter Mbah of Enugu State, Caleb Mutfwang of Plateau State, and the suspended Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara.

Fintiri was reported to have met with the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, recently, with the governor no longer enjoying the camaraderie he once had with former Vice President Atiku Abubakar in the state.

Atiku recently met with Fintiri’s opponent in the 2023 election, Aishatu Dahiru Binani, who had also fallen out with the leadership of the APC in the state.

The Enugu State chapter of the PDP has continuously defended Mbah against rumoured defection to the APC, with the state chapter of the party also rejecting him.

However, the same situation played out in Delta State before Oborevwori’s final defection to the APC alongside his predecessor, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa.

While the governor’s aides kept debunking the planned defection, the Delta State APC also rejected his planned move.

Oborevwori eventually joined the party at a ceremony witnessed by Vice President Kashim Shettima, the National Chairman of the APC, Dr Umar Ganduje, alongside party governors.

Fubara was reported to have met the President in the United Kingdom during his last foreign trip, while a photo of the suspended governor also surfaced online on Sunday after a meeting with Tinubu in Lagos.

Earlier, at a meeting with some stakeholders in the state on May 29, Fubara lauded the President for his “legendary move” to save Rivers.

The President, on March 18, 2025, declared emergency rule in the state, as he suspended Fubara, his deputy, Prof Ngozi Odu, and state lawmakers.

Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, also caused a stir after visiting the President at his Lagos residence, sparking debates between the APC and PDP over his rumoured defection.

At the national summit of the APC held on May 22, 2025, Tinubu said the defection of prominent political figures from the opposition parties to the ruling APC was in order, as they were exercising their constitutionally approved democratic rights.

The President also debunked concerns that the action could lead Nigeria toward a one-party state, noting that the defections instead demonstrated the democratic preferences and ambitions of the populace.

“I’m glad about what we have, and I’m expecting more to come. That is the game. We’re in a constitutional democracy.

“Don’t forget that the freedom of movement and the freedom of association are not criminally punishable. Welcome to the progressives. Sweep them clean,” he said.

Akpabio, nine APC govs welcome Eno

Eno, on Friday, officially dumped the PDP for the ruling APC.

The declaration ceremony was witnessed live by President Bola Tinubu on television, while the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, was represented by his wife, Unoma Akpabio.

A video shared by the official APC account on X.com (formerly Twitter) captured the President watching the live transmission on TVC News.

The Chairman of the APC Governors’ Forum and Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodimma, led eight other APC governors to the ceremony.

The governors were Babajide Sanwo-Olu (Lagos), Bassey Otu (Cross River), Dapo Abiodun (Ogun), Monday Okpebholo (Edo), Biodun Oyebanji (Ekiti), Lucky Aiyedatiwa (Ondo), Francis Nwifuru (Ebonyi), and Oborevwori (Delta).

Also present were the former governor of Kebbi State and Minister of Budget and National Planning, Atiku Bagudu, state APC chairmen, and other notable dignitaries.

Saturday PUNCH gathered that all the erstwhile PDP state assembly lawmakers joined the governor, alongside members of the National Assembly caucus, to join the APC.

However, the Commissioner for Information and Special Duties & Ibom Deep Sea Port, Ini Ememobong, resigned from his position at the State Executive Council following the defection

Eno, on April 30, 2025, first hinted at a possible defection ahead of the 2027 general election.

Speaking at the Ukanafun/Oruk Anam federal constituency town square meeting held at QIC Central School, Ikot Akpankuk, Eno likened the PDP to a faulty aircraft.

“If you wanted to travel with Ibom Airline and, on the verge of taking off, it developed a fault that won’t enable it to fly, won’t you board the next available plane to take you to your destination?

“Whether Ibom Air or Air Peace, board the flight that is ready to take you to your destination. Board the flight and forget the name of the airline,” he said.

On May 23, 2025, the governor directed all his commissioners and appointees to either defect with him to the APC or resign from their positions.

Giving the directive during the State Executive Council meeting, he said, “It’s no more news that I’m moving party. If you don’t know that by now, I don’t know what else you know.”

No comment now – PDP

The state chapter of the PDP, when contacted, said there was no comment.

The state chairman, Elder Aniekan Akpan, said the party had no comment for now concerning the governor’s defection but would definitely react in future.

“We don’t have anything to react to now, but we will definitely react. You can call me tomorrow. I don’t have anything to say now,” he said.
https://punchng.com/hurricane-tinubu-set-to-sweep-more-states-after-gov-enos-defection/
The APC MUST be very careful about taking in too many decampees from other political parties as that can become the albatross of APC through the infiltration of moles. Let those politicians stay put in their original political parties and fix things up there.

The BEST revenge for APC at all levels which would really endear them to the millions of folks on the street level is to fully deploy CNG fuel infrastructure around all the regions of Nigeria (which they are currently doing through the NNPCL), and that would literally crash the cost of transportation and food supply would be abundant through the use of CNG-fueled logistics trucks, trains, cars (since CNG way cheaper than Dangote Petrochemical Refinery's PMS. Dangote Petrochemical Refinery can then focus solely on exporting PMS for FX income). So CNG-fueled trains are OK like Kayode Opeifa, the brilliant Lagos academic (the new boss of NRC, has proposed and is already implementing) and then the state Governors and their Agricultural Commissioners must ruthlessly invest in agricultural programs to cut cost like Lagos State is doing with the Agric Logistics Hub in Epe and monitor the terrible food dealers who hoard many food items and then cause major artificial food scarcities, then they resell food items at a higher price of up to 60 to 100% profit margin. These strategies would totally eliminate a lot of the glaring artificial inflation over there in Nigeria. This isn't rocket science and there's simply just 2 years to go out of the 4 years spent to achieve this. Period.

Governor Eno indicated CLEARLY in a recent interview that he consulted widely with a lot of his political folks in Akwa Ibom State and they all reached a consensus to move to APC. So, what's all the fuss here?

The man is said to have performed very well as a Governor so far and he has the prerogative to move to any other political platform if he thinks the political party he used to belong to has been seriously factionalized and would impede long-term focus and development for his state. Period.
