I think we must be very careful not to make such hasty conclusions because it doesnt entertain the far reaching effects.

Those who advocate for the scrapping of NYSC, do so not because the objectives of the scheme lacks merit but because the way it is currently run is a waste of most people's time, state resources and puts a number of innocent people in harm's way. Those who benefit the most from the scheme are nt even corps members but contractors, politicians and the staff that carry out all sorts of deals using the scheme.

However, you are right when you say but for it many people would not have the 1yr minimum work experience required for EE, but lets be honest, isn't that because of unemployment? is that 1yr actually work experience for most corps members? I was close to tears for feygbe when I implied she was unable to get a job for 6 good years! we wouldnt be here throwing our all into PR if it were possible in Canada for the only 1yr employment in 7yr duration to be some mandatory service.

I am sure folks would prefer having 3years gainful employment that would give them maximum CRS for employment to this testimony of "save for NYSC i wouldnt have been qualified for EE". if we must keep NYSC then we need a holistic restructuring of it to save the future of the millions of corps members who wouldnt be able to get PR even if they attempted to.

This argument of "were it not for NYSC.." is no different from the catastrophic trend that has plagued our history, one that has made Govt think creating employment translates to overbloating the civil service, creating jobs that cant provide a corresponding increase in productivity to justify the increased wage bill. we never understand that it is a lazy approach and what we should focus on is building an environment that is healthy for businesses and industries which would automatically mean more jobs that contribute to the GDP.

I burnt 8 months of my life in limbo waiting to be called for service, spent another one year engaged in activities that had absolute nothing to do with my career and ultimately meant i had to retrain after NYSC. Also the NYSC creates unemployment, vacancies arent filled because govt rather rely on slave labour provided by corps members. its even worse for school kids who have to adjust every 8months to a new set of forced teachers; teachers who spend 3months out of those 8months learning how to teach and understanding their students. save for "Oringo" and "funge", for most people there wasnt anything more NYSC amounted to. a number of persons would be the better due to NYSC but they are in the minority. if there is any testimony i have for NYSC, it is the fact that i didnt end up with some dreaded STD or baby mama which would been a challenge for PR, would have meant failed medicals or increased POF grin

NYSC is too expensive a scheme to give it props for serving as a pathway to get 1yr work experience. Doing things this way is the fundamental reason why even those with great jobs are here looking out to attain escape velocity, because unlike Nigeria, they realize sustainability trumps immediate gratification.

sorry for digressing, but someone reading could be President tomorrow and i like to give her/him a chance to see things differently for the sake of the future, if Nigeria has any.
@bolded, ok na..

Hello bro, which faculty?

Issyman:
Infact.. OOU is a case. Transcript request is 3 months old and my set results are no where to be found. Settled here and there to find the results but still not in sight. It's just sad hoe bad our systems are.

Doesn't work. You still have to go there and settle them. That's how I lost 20k for myself and older son. They said I paid into Abuja account while Abuja said I paid into Lagos account. No one agreed to help me.

OOU things.. That school is just wonderful... So happy for you

VOTE OF THANKS!

I appreciate everyone of us for the congratulatory messages. May all our dreams and aspirations come to pass. It's indeed not a journey for the faint hearted.

Is it my OOU transcript and WES application that took 14 months, abi the tension to get ITA with my 433 which came exactly 7days before my birthday plus my medicals that they said I should go get a report from LUTH that was on strike which was waived... It can only be God.

And to the great people of this thread that thought me 'the boys scout way' to get all my documents readily scanned and properly named for easy uploading.

ModupeOluwa, modupe lowo gbogbo yin. Many thanks to everyone. It shall end in praise for us all.

Hi guys. I am writing this as a follow up to a question I asked some weeks back and to tell how that went. Hopefully anyone who's in the same shoes can refer to this post. In my PR application, I marked "no" in one of the statutory questions asking about visa refusals. (I had been refused visa to a country after which I appealed and got the visa). I was not sure if this was a misrepresentation so I asked on this forum and I was advised to send a CSE with an LOE. To be safe, I sent a CSE with an LOE and an updated Schedule A form. CIC acknowledged receipt and did not require any additional documents. I received PPR last week. Below is my timeline.

ITA: 21 September
AOR: 22 September
MEP: 28 September
IP1: 28 September
NA2: 28 September
RPRF Request & Paid: 03 October
IP2: 16 October
PPR: 17 October

Thanks for all the helpful posts. I wish you all the very best. Remember to commit your applications into God's hands.

Nigeria is getting better...

Bambam4you:
Ikoyi passport office but I belive it can be done by self at any other passport office. Just apply and pay online and make sure you go to the passport office with all the required document which is clearly started before payment is made. They would ask you at the passport office who your processing officer is and you would tell them yourself and they would guide you accordingly. I captured the day I went and they called me 5 days later that my passport was ready.

You can request for courier by sending a mail requesting for it. Thereafter, ask for the tracking number

Ethelia:
Wow, did they send the verification request to your school via regular post? is that why it took so long? and is there an option to request for courier? Thanks
TravelRe: Canadian Express Entry/Federal Skilled Workers Program-Connect Here Part 2 by koonlay5: 10:57pm On Oct 20, 2017
When you pay for EOR, do you get any mail and when do you start counting the 10 weeks?

elfmann:
I don't understand.. did they email u? If they did, the content ought to say if no changes and ur cash don loss. If na so and na me.. I won't bother going to collect d TRF.
Well, I went there today and they now claim ten weeks. U need to see them defending themselves from my attack.. Omo.
If I no get my TRF this time next week.. Trouble go dey oh.
Kontagious:
Yeap, it was email with an attachment saying how well they follow procedure bla bla bla, then concluded saying my score remains unchanged.

But you sef no take things easy at all oo, you won go collect TRF when them never ask you to come grin. Looks like they are keeping up with the 10 weeks limit though.

Thanks to those that created Nairaland and those that opened and contribute to this thread, Most especially the Elders of this land that were helpfully one way or another.

My special appreciation goes out to 40manlappy who was answering my questions and concerns.

After failed attempt to get admission for fall 2016, I prayed to be an international student on full scholarship by December 2017 but I didn't know God had a bigger plan. He wanted me to wait a whole year, work and use the experience for PR application.

With tears dropping from my eyes, I say "Thank you lord!". Omo baba elero (son of a pepper grinder) doing all this can only be you.

lol @ seed money

Yooku:
The 12,500 (actually 12,300 CAD) is the minimum required amount of funds you should have to support your upkeep only once you land in Canada Not for anything else, not even for visa fee (550 CAD Application Fee + 490 CAD Right of permanent residence fee). That money is an independent sum of money not meant for anything else but as seed money into Canada's economy grin grin

I understand your concern. I only stated what i did. Meanwhile, you might wish to know that so many schools do so. If you request your school to do transcript and pay for courier, the person can use one courier to send all. I'm not assuming this, this is what is done.
Like always, please do what you are comfortable with.
Cheers

alwaysvik:
I think you should tread with caution here.
If you can afford it, please send your envelopes separately. I did what this post advised, and I paid in delays of evaluation. We had to write WES severally because even though our tracking status reports successful delivery, actual update on our pages took forever. I'm not sure but I think evaluations are somewhat connected to tracking numbers and stuff. If you do this, you might inadvertently input a configuration that may not work with their system of tracking receipts and evaluation. Maybe subjecting them to manual work of separating your package (under the same tracking number) or some funny stuff that might delay your evaluation. The programmer in me just tells me that something isn't right about cutting cost in this way.

As I type this, I have missed many ITAs all because of WES Evaluation. Be smart. Money is a means to an end - use it as such.

For the first, you can get PCC from Abuja. I did from the 2nd Floor, Force Headquarters. It still comes with the Alagbon stamp.

Alyemsgre:
Thank you all for all your contributions may God continue to bless you. Just a few questions please:
1. Can I get a pcc in Abuja?
2. If I have been in another country for 2years,do I present a pcc from that country?
Please note that my POF is from Nigeria and my work experience is from Nigeria.

Thank you.
TravelRe: Canadian Express Entry/Federal Skilled Workers Program-Connect Here Part 2 by koonlay5: 4:53pm On Oct 11, 2017
I know you have gotten some responses, however you can cut cost by sending your documents together. Remember, you should have different WES number. Your documents should be in different envelopes with your WES number indicated at the top of each envelope then you send them together with same courier. Same with your school, just inform the person handling it to do same.

olugere:
HUSBAND AND WIFE WANTS TO EVALUATE ECA THROUGH WES FROM THESAME UNIVERSITY FOR IMMIGRATION TO CANADA,

IS THERE A WAY TO CUT COST SINCE WE ARE IN THE SAME HOUSE, FROM THESAME UNIVERSITY, EVALUATING B.TECH FOR WIFE, M.ENG FOR HUSBAND.

HOPE AM RIGHT? I USED HER NAME SHE USED IN SCHOOL BEFORE WE MARRIED TO CREATE ACCOUNT FOR ON WES/CANADA WEBSITE

THOUGH HER INTERNATIONAL PASSPORT BEARS MY NAME(HUSBAND) NOW.

I think you can sign on behalf of your spouse having all other factors present.

sleekysilk:
Yes, it's possible to help spouse pick up. Just get him/her to write an authorisation letter and also go with his/her international passport plus your own means of ID. And for the EOR, I don't know how d form looks like but in case there's anywhere meant for the applicant to sign ensure your spouse appends his/her signature before leaving home and don't forget your 15k bank draft as well.
