Firm Demands N200m Damages Oau For 1982 Building Contract

Does any one hre remember our Mathematics Building just to the side of the "White House" at Ife.

Generations of students have passed through Ife with this one building started almost 30 years ago and never completed.

The building should have being at over half of its useful life by now.

Poor Nigeria. The thieves just keep piling it on shocked shocked shocked shocked shocked

Whoever came out to file these complains should be shot on sight!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

http://www.thenationonlineng.net/2011/index.php/news-update/24028-firm-demands-n200m-damages-from-oau-for-alleged-breach-of-contract.html

By Oseheye Okwuofu, Ibadan 1 hour ago

The Federal High Court sitting in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, will, next Tuesday, hear a suit filed by a civil engineering firm, Progress Contracts Limited, seeking N200 million damages from Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, Osun State, for alleged breach of contract.

The petitioner is accusing the university of breaching a subsisting contract signed on April 26, 1982, by both parties for the building of a Mathematics and First Year Laboratory Complex in the institution.

It accused OAU of re-awarding the project to another company, Messrs Gilda Nigeria Limited.

The petition reads: “Work on the project progressed steadily until a time when the university suffered financial setback and subsequently approached the plaintiff to split the project into three components marked Phases A, B, C, under which Phases B and C, comprising laboratories, were successfully completed through self financing by the contractor, who resorted to bank loans, while Phase A was also executed to the 2nd Floor level.”

The petitioner said when the university eventually received development grants from the Federal Government and donor agencies, it awarded the completion of the Phase A project to Messrs Gilda Nigeria Limited without terminating the subsisting contract.

The plaintiff is praying the court to declare that its contract with OAU subsists, and void the university’s contract with Messrs Gilda Nigeria Limited. It prayed the court to restrain the school from awarding the project to another contractor.

The firm is also asking OAU for N200 million as damages.

What? Are you sleep walking? He is not doling out cash. Read the reply to your original message below.

He is not dolling out money. These guys are actually engaged in community service. Aregbesola of course knows that it is a short-term program for the individuals involved. That is why those with qualifications are being trained for other jobs. However, this is a program that can be kept as a long term means of continuosly preparing and absorbing otherwise idle hands into useful employment.

That fool, Beaf, is a complete liar - if you don't want yourself to be embarassed look somewhere else for information,  particularly on Osun State.

You feel doling out cush would solve unemployment cries . . .wonder why other ACN governors are not dolling out cash as well . . .since it's the way to go . . .Short term succour can only take you far, but it doesn't solve the underlying unemployment issues. . . cos when it can be scrapped at any given point in time and the bonanza ends there . . .And such programmes would never stop social vices . . . so people harping on a tested and found wanting formula is not the way to go . . . .Let's pull out all partisan plugs aside

Truth be told, the outer parts of Lagos have yet to see the transformation going on in central Lagos. I hope though that the people of Lagos will stop and think. What needs to happen is to make sure that they hold the LGA chairs to task this time around.

However, they cannot afford to throw out the baby with the bath water. Don't get too greedy too fast. The alternatives, particularly PDP, has being in charge longer than ACN and has nothing to show - NOT AT THE CENTER, NOT THE STATES AND NOT AT THE LOCAL LEVEL. It would be jumping from frying pan into the fire.

djustice:
Tinubu needs to start watching his back. Himself, Aregbesola and other ACN tyrants robbing Lagos State of development at the grassroots had better start watching it. What goes around comes around. They should go and ask Gaddaffi! People are REALLY pissed at them right now. Even ACN people that felt that the candidates were imposed on them by Bola Tinubu. His downfall will come from within his own party. They worked hard against him everywhere, but, with DPOs and the state commissioner of Police in his pocket, there was little people could do.

Tinubu is going down, and if Fashola stands with him, so is he.

No matter how hard people try to praise the OYES . . .that is an artificial scheme only for short term succour . . , . . Aregbesola OYES is similar to the poverty alleviation scheme in other states whose practice has being discontinued, cos the end product does not yield the necessary result needed to stimulate growth within the populace . . .it's akin to just dolling money to some lucky few . . . So if the FG starts dolling out money to say 100,000 youths . .we can all shout hurray, that indeed 100,000 jobs have been created while the skill set of the beneficiaries have not being harnessed for the much needed SME growth, required to improve the local economy . . . . OYES to me is the failed poverty Alleviation hand outs of other states since 1999 . . . . This short term approach does not impress me one bit . . .I don't need to wait for anybody to give me a stance in whatever topic we choose to discuss . . . . This below is based on mere mouthings that mean very little. In particular you say there is no internal democracy. Which party has internal democracy? None.

At least ACN is honest enough to tell you that the national leadership is going to select the best hands they can find and let them contest against those from other parties.

PDP the big thiefing party "pretends" it is practicing internal democracy only so it would not be clear who is responsible for the failures that follow elections. Were you not here when Atiku & GEJ played a game of dollars before GEJ won the election? Are you telling me that the PDP candidates in Lagos were chosen by merit? Or do you want people to vote for APGA who even before getting its candidates on the ballot proclaimed how certain sections of the country are getting ready to take over Lagos. If anyone goes anywhere in the country and says that he deserves to be handed a sound defeat.

Not supporting any act of rigging, but if people voted for ACN then it is clear that neither PDP nor APGA were viable alternatives - and the reasons are clear.

Aren't you the original blockhead.

Bayelsa used to be part of Rivers State which is an eastern state. Besides anything beyond Edo State and Delta, both of which used to be the old Bendel (Mid-West), is probably considered by most Nigerians to be in the East.

Strictly speaking Bayelsa's geography spans both the east and the west (of the Niger River that is). So what is your point?

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) said it is not perturbed by the public outcry over the continued detention of the ace actor/comedian, Mr. Babatunde Omidina a.k.a Baba Suwe.

The recent position of the agency was informed by the fact that the large chunk of substance, suspected to be hard drug was found in Baba Suwe’s stomach by a CT scan at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH). The scan was said to have been carried out in collaboration with an Indian doctor.

A source at the agency told Daily Sun that the suspect would still remain in court, after the 15 days ordered by the Federal High Court, presided over by Justice Okechukwu Okeke, until the scan machine proves otherwise.

“There is reasonable ground to still keep him in our custody. We are not perturbed about the public outcry. He is not going anywhere until he excretes the drugs detected by the CT scan,” he said. Keen watchers of the drama said the recent position of NDLEA portended danger for the popular actor, as he risked having his intestine ruptured or being operated on to have the alleged drugs evacuated from his stomach.

Baba Suwe was arrested at the Murtala Mohammed International airport (MMIA) on Wednesday, October 12, 2011 while on his way to France, what the anti-narcotic agency called ‘suspicion of drug trafficking.’

The agency, which seemed confused over the matter, especially, since the actor failed to excrete the alleged hard drug and the fact that some human rights activist dragged the agency to court for violating his human rights, took him to LASUTH where the machine still indicated that he had some hard drugs stuck in his stomach .

Isn't it the beginning of failure when before they have finished the project it is already named after a ruler.

All they need to do is call those "illiterate" welders, and Nigeria will be manufacturing its own "AK 47" and other such weapons in no time.

Don't we know it will never happen under this dilapidated system already.

Rhino.5dm:
please look out for the meaning of that word.
DICON tried to produce Nigerian version of AK47, by reverse engineering with a code name "OBJ 007".

After expanding huge sums of money on the project through various publicity stunts, the project is still on the drawing board. If Nigeria cant replicate common AK 47, then how can survive foreign invasion? shocked we are doomed.

It does not require alot of efforts to build war ships locally, but where is the commitment and political will?

My freind and elder mentor was producing home made bombs and semi-automatic rifles as far back as 1993. But guess what? Iran took him over after producing and successful lunching of a solid fuel rocket, capable of delivering small payloads in a range of 5km with a precision GPS cordinates input option laced with a position tracking locator.

The project took him 7 years to complete and ALL the engineers that worked on that project are locals. He was actaully having problems with the GPS control system until he met some guys from Ibadan.

Not to justify anything that Boko Haram is doing now. However, one recurring line was the role of extra-judicial of members by the police a couple of years ago.

Look, let's tell each other the truth. Blame no one if Nigerian police officers like the one mentioned below is taken out by the people - if justice is not done quickly.

Bayelsa checkpoint killing: Eyewitnesses name killer patrol members

Eye witnesses of the October 16 killing of 20-year-old Emmanuel Victor in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State, have identified the policeman who allegedly shot him dead at a police checkpoint.

The policeman is said to be popularly known as the “Boko Haram of the Nigeria Police.”

He was said to have shot Victor five times at different parts of his body and even when he was dead.

Our correspondent learnt that the policemen that mounted the roadblock on the fateful day was led by one Inspector John.

Prior to the incident,Boko Haram was said to have been a regular face at the checkpoint allegedly harassing commercial motorcyclists.

The policeman, our correspondent learnt, has not been seen at the checkpoint since the incident happened nine days ago.

Victor was killed on Sanni Abacha Expressway, Yenagoa for allegedly condemning bribery and the extortion of money from motorists at the checkpoint.

The deceased was said to be returning from church service in company with his mother when the incident happened.

Sources said his mother pleaded in vain to stop his son from being shot.

The policeman, who allegedly threatened to shoot his mother for attempting to help her son, was said to have removed a copy of the Holy Bible he was holding at the time of his death and replaced it with a pair of scissors.

But one week after he was killed, the police said on Sunday that Victor’s murder was still under investigation.

The Bayelsa State Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Eguavoen Emokpae,  told our correspondent, “We are still investigating.

“All I can say for now is that people should exercise patient while investigation lasts. I have been to the Criminal Investigation Department and they said the report of the investigation was not ready.

It was clear what the OP was saying: The protests prevented Uduaghan from having his birth day celebration. That was the second stanza to the resignation of his special assistant, protesting the same grievance - youth unemployment.

Ironically, one of the signature achievements of Aregbesola's 1 year in Osun State was an innovative approach to quickly employ 20,000 youths - a program against which you like to proclaim the most disgusting lies here on NL.

PoliticsSuspected Islamist Sect Kills Nigerian Journalist by koruji(op): 11:19pm On Oct 22, 2011
http://www.reuters.com/article/2011/10/22/nigeria-sect-idUSL5E7LM0WD20111022

Oct 22 (Reuters) - Suspected members of a radical Islamist sect shot dead a state television cameraman in Nigeria's remote northeast on Saturday, union and military sources said, in what could be the first assassination of a journalist by the sect.

Boko Haram, whose name means "Western education is forbidden", has been blamed by authorities for near daily shootings and deadly bombings around Maiduguri, the capital of Borno state, which sits in the far northeast corner of Africa's most populous nation on borders with Cameroon, Chad and Niger.

The sect's attacks usually target the police, military, prominent religious figures and drinking spots but in recent weeks journalists have been threatened by the group, which says it wants sharia law more widely applied across Nigeria.

Alhaji Zakariya Isa, a journalist working for the government-owned Nigerian Television Authority, was killed by gunmen who attacked him at his home in Maiduguri.

"Zakariya was shot dead at his house in Bulunkutu Gomari by suspected Boko Haram this evening. We shall go to claim his body tomorrow for burial," said Abba Kakami, the Borno state chairman of the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ).

"The NUJ will certainly take all the necessary steps to protect its members from further attacks."

A member of the joint military task force operating in Borno state confirmed the incident, but asked not to be named.

It was not clear if Isa had been specifically targeted by Boko Haram.

Boko Haram is growing in ambition and sophistication and authorities in Nigeria and abroad believe it has strengthening ties with al Qaeda's north African wing.

It claimed responsibility for Nigeria's first known suicide bombing in August, driving a car full of explosives into U.N. headquarters in the capital Abuja, killing 24 people.

It threatened reporters recently after the group claimed spokesmen who weren't part of the sect were being quoted in the media. The group has an ill-defined command structure and many people claim to speak on its behalf. (Reporting by Ibrahim Mshelizza; Writing by Joe Brock; Editing by Sonya Hepinstall)

OBJ instructing GEJ on how to handle Boko Haram is like IBB advising Nigerians on how to mid-wive democratic rule. Failure instructing failure.

The version of Boko Haram we have today can be linked to OBJ's refusal to instill the fear of the constitution in the Northern Sharia governors - hence BH is insisting on extending Sharia all over the North. If that worked they will use the same method to insist on the South becoming Sharia states.

Does he also consider his ND policy successful? With the maggot-ridden NDDC? The ND is calm right now only because of GEJ in Aso Rock.

As Aba Independent Power Project Comes Alive

By Mohammed Shosanya (Lagos)
Daily Trust, Abuja
November 8, 2007

It was pomp and ceremony last week when President Musa Yar'Adua led other dignitaries to Osisioma, near Aba in Abia State to perform foundation-laying ceremony of the Aba Independent Power Project.

The ceremony came at the nick of the time when Nigerians have traded their hopes for uninterrupted power supply in the country.

Suffice to say that in the last eight years of the previous administration, the power sector grew worse inspite of the controversial expenditure sunk on it and noises about improved power supply existed only in rhetorics.

And when the new administration came on board and promised to declare a state of emergency on the enmeshed power sector, many Nigerians praised President Yar'Adua to high heavens.

Things have not taken shape hitherto. Power supply is still elusive and Nigerians seem to have negotiated again there hopes for improved power sector under this fresh administration.

But,the foundation laying ceremony for the Aba Independent Power Project may have rekindled the hope of Nigerians that the days of interrupted power supply are numbered.

The Aba Independent Power Project (IPP) is spearheaded by an indigenous company, Geometric Power Limited, owned by the former Minister of Science and Professor of Robotic Engineering, Professor Bartholmew Nnaji.

Apart from the Aba IPP,the company has a sterling record having successfully built a 22 megawatts Abuja Emergency Power Project in 2001,which currently lit up the seat of power and its environs.

Besides, the project which will gulp a princely S250million,is targeted at supplying 140megawatts of electricity to the national grid. The funding of the project is a concerted efforts of local and foreign financial institutions that will pool their resources and expertise together to ensure that it came to life and satisfy the needs of Nigerians.

Among the financial institutions which have given their nod to partake in the project include; the International Finance Corporation (IFC), European Investment Bank[EIB] and African Finance Corporation[AFC].

Also, the foremost power specialist from Canada, Mr. Paul Nickson, is said to have been hired by the indigenous company to perfect the Aba IPP. Speaking at the foundation ceremony last week in Aba, President Yar'Adua described the project as the first major investment by a Nigerian in diaspora.

The President, who was represented by the Minister of State for Energy and Gas, Mr. Emmanuel Odusina said. "The successful completion, operation and management of the project will, no doubt, be a reference point in the nation's history of power generation, distribution and transmission"

According to the Governor of Abia State, Theodore Orji, the project would aid the revival of industries that were closed in Aba and other towns due to epileptic power supply.

While commending Geometric for siting the project in the state, Orji pledged the government's support for the project and warned the host communities against sabotage, harassment and intimidation of workers at the site of the project.

Both Special Assistant to the President on Power, Joseph Makoju and the Chairman of the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC), Dr Ransome Owan, described the project as a veritable and potent force to change the face of the dwindling power generation in the country.

And to demonstrate the commitment and seriousness of Geometric Limited to smoothsail the project, its Chairman, Professor Barthol-omew Nnaji, noted in his speech at the occasion that an extensive environmental impact assessment of the project had been conducted, adding that the plant would commence operations in a year's time.

Report from Aba indicates that businessmen, investors and the likes have already embraced the project and have expressed willingness to work with the company to ensure its success.

One could only hope that the present administration provides more latitudes and enabling environments for private investors to invest in the power sector with a view to rescuing it from needless abyss.

While I understand your sentiments, I have to disagree with you that Iraq or Afghanistan can be compared to Libya, although the symptoms of their diseases are similar.

A ruler of 42 years who refused to move on in this modern world has to be pushed out, and that is what happened to Khaddafi. Even in ancient times Yoruba kings can be deposed at the agreement of a large section of the population or for high offence/treason.

People got tired of Khaddafi - and the maxim "give me freedom or give me death kicked in". There is no doubt that they got a little help from the vested interests of the world powers, but he made it all possible to begin with.

High_Chief:
Nayah God will surely bless you richly. I refuse to celebrate with Lybia cos I remember Iraq and Afghanistan. These Lybians one day will pray Ghadaffi stayed. We are watching

Sad to say. Our continent is dying in slow motion, while the fat rats keep hoarding every last bit of resources.

Foreign AffairsAdieu To Khaddafi - One Enigmatic Character by koruji(op): 1:18am On Oct 21, 2011
Unlike the case of Osama Bin Laden the death of Khaddafi doesn't make me happy. In fact I feel a little sadness about his passing.

The nature of Khaddafi's 42+ years of rule cannot be easily defined. He started out as the "savior" of his people. In years past, he was a hero to many a young "would-be" revolutionary. He stayed a Col. throughout his life, in contrast to our own paper Generals. His personal security was top-notch and much feared - the effect of many international and national assassination attempts.

Along the way the arrogance of power and oil wealth developed into a messianic complex. Col. Khaddafi thought himself a ruler of Africa and confronter of the world's great powers. He stretched his hand too far, fomented many wars and became complicit in state-sponsored terrorism.

As the end drew near, it seemed Col. Khaddafi went mad. He called himself "King of Kings". He would deliver mumbling speeches at the U.N., refusing to observe any time limits or caring about his audience. He became increasingly belligerent, with an excessive desire to disregard any form of regulation. He visited America and sought to spread is Bedouin tent in the middle of New York/New Jersey under the stars. At the same time, he addressed the President of the world's greatest power as "my son".

Col. Khaddafi went from insane rhetoric to reconciliatory words. He suddenly decided to give up his chemical and nuclear weapons program, attempted to befriend America, while at the same time embracing a known terrorist. He sought a United States of Africa, dressed and behaved as its phantom head when he led the toothless O.A.U. At the same time he encouraged Nigeria to divide. Col. Khaddafi sought to support the needy, yet kept billions away in the same Western banks he derided, while his sons partied and shimmied away to Beyonce's violently gyrating behind. At the end he called his countrymen rats, promising to go from house to house to eliminate them. He promised the world an unending war and spoke of becoming the next Osama Bin Laden - I guess the world took him up on his words on that one and silently thanked the Lord of the Universe that he had given up his WMD only a few years before.

Col. Khaddafi was a character no doubt. No doubt, his fellow dictators on the African landscape are going to miss his financial support and backing as they reconsider what might befall them in the days ahead.

Wherever you are tonight Col., adieu.
PoliticsRe: Does This Also Make You A Thief? by koruji(m): 2:01am On Oct 20, 2011
The question is already biased by using the word "steal" in the second instance. You did not "steal it back", you "took it back". Stealing is not necessarily the act of taking or its hidden natures, it is the violation of property rights i.e. taking what does not belong to you. How can you steal what was yours to begin with?

If someone steals from you and then you turn and steal back that thing from the person,  does that also make you thief?
