I certainly hope that because you guys delivered block votes to GEJ doesn't mean he is listening to the like of you. What world has changed? Since when? Just because GEJ won an election the world changed? Are there real men left in this country? Men who can see beyond their noses on both sides of the fence, and bold enough to act in the long-term interest of Nigeria. Onlytruth: Be careful of what you wish for, 'cos you might get it.
Buhari clearly is still living in the past.

For instance, nine out 10 people spoken to tipped Okorocha to win in free and fair election. But others said Ohakim might bring his power of incumbency to bear. What is this power of incumbency people talk about anyway? Apart from good performance I don't see legitimate power of incumbency. It must be a combination of rigging and inducements for votes. Otherwise, I do not understand what "magnet" puts your thumb on PDP instead of your intended party in the voting booth. It really sounds like an excuse to do what people want to do, but are afraid to say! |

The penalties for cocaine are going to be much harsher than that for marijuana. Marijuana isn't really dangerous. Illegal, but not dangerous. Cocaine is both illegal and very dangerous. |

Politics › Gubernatorial Election: Fg Assures Nigerians Of Security by koruji(op): 3:20am On Apr 25, 2011 |
Written by Soji-Eze Fagbemi Monday, 25 April 2011
The Minister of Labour and the Supervising Minister of Interior, Chief Emeka Wogu, has assured Nigerians that the Federal Government is leaving no stone unturned to ensure that improved and adequate security of life and property of the citizens is maintained during and after tomorrow’s election.
The minister stated this at the inaugural meeting with the management and staff of the Ministry of Interior, including various heads of parastatal agencies of the ministry, comprising the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), Nigeria Prison Service (NPS), Federal Fire Service (NFS) and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC).
Chief Wogu, who expressed concern over the internal security in the country, especially after the last presidential election, said that the government would continue to pursue strict border control policy.
“One thing I will want to achieve within the short period of time is to continue to pursue strict border control and patrol and we need to start doing something about it in order to come up with strategies on how to go about border control in the subsequent elections because of the challenges we had.
“I believe that if the boarders are shut, we might not have influx of miscreants from our neighbouring countries that could equally be capable of unleashing mayhem on Nigerians,” Wogu said. so On the issue of expatriate quota, the acting Minister of Interior expressed delight that the ministry would soon commence a programme to ensure that expatriate quotas were not given to foreigners to come and take up jobs where there were qualified Nigerians to take up such jobs. http://tribune.com.ng/index.php/news/20907-gubernatorial-election-fg-assures-nigerians-of-security |

The real import of the OTP statement is a warning to anyone calling for or planning violence on Tuesday, not really what has already happened. Although if they find anybody materially culpable for those riots it would be good riddance to them. It will be very hard to prove that Buhari & Bakare were responsible, just like it is almost impossible to link GEJ to any rigging down-south. What needs to happen next Tuesday is for our security operatives to secure the nation so they can immediately arrest any potential outbreaks of violence. They need to stay away from the ballots, and focus on the job of securing the nation!!! Beaf: Take a look at the alert from the ICC Prosecutor below, it really neglects to mention the AG or ask if anyone ordered the riots. I wonder why?
http://www.icc-cpi.int/NR/exeres/FFAB57D5-3986-4208-8BC3-CEF1971629E7.htm
I wonder why anyone should be scared of Buhari and Bakare clearing their names before an incorruptible court. Leaving aside their understandably jittery supporters, I'm certain beyond doubt, that the "two honest men" will jump at the chance to defend their integrity in a court with impeccable pedigree such as the ICC. I see little to worry about, rather all hands should be on deck to make the trial possible and bring the date closer. |

You missed my real point here, and you are also wrong in separating the ICC from the U.N. ICC may be independent of the U.N. the way INEC was supposed to be independent of the Nigerian Government , but is nevertheless an organ of the U.N. See ICC history below (Wikipedia). My real point is that President GEJ has a tendency to defer presidential decisions to others. You might think I am trying to rubbish him, but that would be wrong. It is a bad sign, and if the people you are talking about are as bad as you make them to be then they probably can smell the blood in the water. If he doesn't correct this tendency to make tough decisions untraceable to the presidency, it will be his undoing. History The establishment of an international tribunal to judge political leaders accused of war crimes was first made during the Paris Peace Conference in 1919 by the Commission of Responsibilities. The issue was addressed again at conference held in Geneva under the auspices of the League of Nations on 1–16 November 1937, but no practical results followed. The United Nations states that the General Assembly first recognised the need for a permanent international court to deal with atrocities of the kind committed during World War II in 1948, following the Nuremberg and Tokyo Tribunals.[3] At the request of the General Assembly, the International Law Commission drafted two statutes by the early 1950s but these were shelved as the Cold War made the establishment of an international criminal court politically unrealistic.[21] Benjamin B. Ferencz, an investigator of Nazi war crimes after World War II and the Chief Prosecutor for the United States Army at the Einsatzgruppen Trial, one of the twelve military trials held by the U.S. authorities at Nuremberg, later became a vocal advocate of the establishment of an international rule of law and of an International Criminal Court. In his first book published in 1975, entitled Defining International Aggression-The Search for World Peace, he argued for the establishment of such an international court.[22] The idea was revived in 1989 when A. N. R. Robinson, then Prime Minister of Trinidad and Tobago, proposed the creation of a permanent international court to deal with the illegal drug trade.[21][23] While work began on a draft statute, the international community established ad hoc tribunals to try war crimes in the former Yugoslavia and Rwanda, established in 1994, further highlighting the need for a permanent international criminal court.[24] Following years of negotiations, the General Assembly convened a conference in Rome in June 1998, with the aim of finalizing a treaty. On 17 July 1998, the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court was adopted by a vote of 120 to 7, with 21 countries abstaining. The seven countries that voted against the treaty were China, Iraq, Israel, Libya, Qatar, United States, and Yemen.[25] The Rome Statute became a binding treaty on 11 April 2002, when the number of countries that had ratified it reached sixty.[4] The Statute legally came into force on 1 July 2002,[4] and the ICC can only prosecute crimes committed after that date.[5] The first bench of 18 judges was elected by an Assembly of States Parties in February 2003. They were sworn in at the inaugural session of the court on 11 March 2003.[26] The court issued its first arrest warrants on 8 July 2005,[27] and the first pre-trial hearings were held in 2006.[28] During a Review Conference of the International Criminal Court Statute in Kampala, Uganda, two amendments to the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court were adopted on June 10 and June 11, 2010. The second amendment concerns the definition of the crime of aggression. Beaf: The ICC is independent from the UN, so the basis of your argument is wrong. Nigeria is a signatory to the ICC and there are Nigerian lawyers involved in its activities. As long as we are fully signed up to the ICC's charter, we must avail ourselves of its services if need be. The beauty of the ICC, is that you and I can invoke powers of judgement on every and anyone where the circumstances are right. The ICC is already investigating, so all we need do is lubricate the process. |

That is the bull right there. Beaf: "The serial numbers of the notes were taken?" Dishonest people always try to fill the air with noise so it seems they are attacking when in reality they are running away and talking crap. This call to drag Buhari & Bakare to the International Criminal Court is silly in my opinion. This is what needs to happen if GEJ truly wants to build a new Nigeria in deed and not by mouth alone: 1. Those arrested for the dastardly acts of burning, pillaging and killing must be prosecuted swiftly. 2. They must receive the highest punishment available - by which I mean death, if I am not being clear. The events that have followed the presidential election is partly due to GEJ's tendency to do too many "political calculations" with his decisions. These events were presaged and primed over and over again by repeated murderous rampages in Jos, Borno and bombings all over. How many persons have been prosecuted and punished swiftly, even when they were caught red-handed, under GEJ? None that I am aware of. Why won't people immediately resort to violence with that kind of laxity. President GEJ has been adviced to have some of these animals publicly executed after dragging them before the nation, and incontrovertibly tying them to their gruesome acts in full view of the world. How long are we going to be hiding behind the UN? Iran brought enough weapons to start a war into your country, you go to the U.N.; Your elections are not considered credible until you have the U.N. and other observers watching it; Now, you cannot handle the election crisis without calling the U.N. It is becoming a bad habit. Beaf: Lol!
The vast majority of the good people of Nigeria urge Tunde Bakare to shut up and take his so called evidence to court. It really can't be that difficult. In the meantime, I suggest to all Nigerians that we find ways to haul Buhari and Bakare before the International Criminal Court. The prosecutor has already expressed interest and only needs evidence that the violence was planned. |

@ndu_chucks Even the courts would not disqualify a candidate for the actions of somebody else. Did you hear that he personal conducted any acts of vote rigging or what? This is what I don't like about both sides of this issue. They keep going for the "unreasonable" extreme in their arguments. In any case, the wanton destruction of lives, especially those of defenseless youth corpers in their midst, cannot be justified no matter how you cut it. It just smells to hear Buhari supporters going from accusing PDP of vote inflation to Buhari would have won in a free and fair election to Buhari won the election to the rigging should have disqualified GEJ's candidacy. Bakare did his own magomago calculations already where he sees 50% of PDP votes taken away to bring GEJ's total to just under Buhari's 12 million. This is nothing but comedy for the masses - the courts are there to settle the matter. What are we going to do about the underage kids that went to the polls up north? As for PDP rigging the election in the SW next Tuesday, they have already being warned. Mind you, we are not talking about the same kind of rigging. GEJ would have won the SS/SE handily without any accusation of rigging, but for PDP's overzealousness . On the other hand, rigging in the SW would actually be overtuning people's desires not fraudulently enhancing it. Still it doesn't mean that the SW will devolve into violence or start going after people based on ethnicity or religion or start killing youth corpers. As it happened in Osun, Ekiti and Ondo so it will be - PDP will cough up the people's mandate, whether they like it or not. The fact is that Buhari put himself in a position not to win this election. He virtually conceeded the SS/SE to GEJ, waited till the upteenth hour, when he had no viable offers to make to the ACN, for an alliance, and did not even have the North and Middle-Belt firmly under his belt - where was his win supposed to come from? ndu_chucks: This is mere conjecture and unfounded speculation which misses the point of the protests completely. The point is not whether GEJ should have won but that the rigging should have got his candidacy disqualified. This writer also assumes that the violence and killings were orchestrated by CPC, an unfortunate and disappointing stance.
We all condemn the violence, but we must not allow the action of irresponsible few put us in a position to continue to accept the rigging machine of PDP without protesting, preferably peacefully.
I'd be glad to read the author's article next week after PDP rigs Ogun Oyo, and Lagos. Based on the author's logic, we should just roll over and let it be, because violence is bad. olodo |

Yes, keep on with your maniacal laughter. ACN did not look away for PDP to rig anything. In the states where ACN was in serious contention PDP dare not rig, people voluntarily voted for GEJ. It was the SE/SS that got overzealous with the vote rigging - the sad part is they didn't have to do it, PDP would have won anyway. When CPC was going all over the federation talking violence, they failed to put people in place to watch in the SS/SE basically BECAUSE THEY CONCEEDED THOSE AREAS TO GEJ - but PDP operatives just had to overplay their hand. ACN is warning PDP on the basis of WHAT WAS GLARINGLY DONE IN THE SS/SE. All PDP has to do on Tuesday is play by the rules since their hands HAVE ALREADY BEING CAUGHT IN THE "COOKIE JAR" IN ONE INSTANCE. They must be aware that the other "cookie jar" does not contain cookies but a GIANT RATTLE SNAKE. Kapish? MAYOWAAK: I just dey laugh oh! He who dines with the devil must be prepared to pay the price. I don't think Tinubu who fought OBJ to a standstill and held on to Lagos despite the ruthlessness of OBJ & co's rigging method is naive enough to let PDP pull a suprise on him under the command of GEJ. I know PDP is excited that they were able to inflate the votes in the SE/SS in the last election. It was easy for them because: 1) they didn't need to do it; 2) nobody was was watching anyway. You do your a disservice and show that as you complain against Buhari, you are no better. The title was" " UN Plans Probe Of Post-Polls Riots – The Guardian", which I commend but it says nothing about probing Buhari - although if he was found to be materially culpable, so be it. However, it is really a warning to would-be perpetrators that the UN would be willing to drag them to the Hague. In addition, this gives the UN a toehold to get involved in all kinds of atrocities being committed all over our Federation. So, please be careful what you wish for since we might have to re-visit Odi, Jos and the other slaughters that is fast becoming a regularity within Nigeria - it will involve at least a couple of your mentors. If GEJ wants to spend the next 4 years rigmaroling and pursuing seen and unseen enemies he is welcome to it. The best advice is for him to come up with real strategies to tackle real problems - true Federalism, decentralized, lean, fair and efficient policing, food and energy security, a new era in the development of Science&Technology and domestic enterprise, etc. If anyone dare get violent at him for that then they will deserve what they get according to the LAW. UN Plans Probe Of Post-Polls Riots – The Guardian EMU, CAN, JNI, South-South Leaders Deplore Attacks
THE United Nations (UN) is taking the post-election violence in Nigeria beyond the realm of the country’s internal affairs.
Without encroaching on the powers of the Federal Government to maintain law and order, the UN through the International Criminal Court (ICC) says it will investigate the crisis to determine whether crimes against humanity were committed.
In a statement from the ICC’s Office of the Prosecutor, Mr. Luis Moreno-Ocampo, said it was following the mayhem in Nigeria from the National Assembly to the presidential polls to determine whether crimes abhorred by the global body had been committed.
At home, ethnic, religious, social groups and individuals yesterday condemned the unwarranted attacks on Nigerians by thugs believed to be championing the cause the Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) presidential candidate, Maj-Gen. Muhammadu Buhari, who lost the election to the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP’s) candidate, President Goodluck Jonathan.
Among those who deplored the violence and demanded the probe of its masterminds are the leaders of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Jama’atu Nasir Islam (JNI), South-South Elders Forum, the Eastern Mandate Union (EMU), and the Youth Adolescent Reflection and Action Centre, (YARAC). The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) confirmed yesterday that over 8,000 persons had been displaced by the crisis in Bauchi State.

Lying B.astards. Your fraudulent days are numbered. wole123: Going by the statistics of the last two elections in Oyo State, the people of Oyo State have been advised not to waste their votes instead they should cast them for the PDP so that the vote can have meaning.
In a statement by Governor Akala's Spokesman Prince Dotun Oyelade, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Public Communications, PDP was the only party that had the required 25 percent in all the 33 Local Governments in Oyo State. While it also led in 16 Local governments leaving the ACN and Accord to share the rest.
During the National Assembly and Presidential elections, the statement added, PDP led by 22000 and 240,000 respectively with the widest spread. Thus the pattern of last two elections have clearly shown that the gubernatorial race is all but decided. It stated that the ACN that traded off its Presidential flagbearer Ribadu by posting a meager 2m votes cannot be trusted by our people.
The statement revealed that the main reason for the sour relationship between Senator Ahmed Tinubu, Mimiko of Ondo and Oshiomhole of Edo was their refusal to engage Tinubu's company, Alpha Beta to manage and milk the revenue in their States like he's doing in Lagos State to the tune of 3 billion naira. Unfortunately Ajimobi, its guber flagbearer in Oyo State has already conceded Oyo State treasury to Tinubu even before he got there!!!
