There was an earlier memo sent to banks that outlined ways in which dollar inflows can be spent (utilized) by account holders.

The summary is that inflows from offshore accounts should not be withdrawn, rather, be sold to banks at inter bank rates. Account holders can use their monies to fund international payments and the likes.

Inflows via local deposits (over the counter dollar deposits) even have more limitations. They will be limited as to how they can spend such monies on international payments.


The overarching resolve is that CBN wants even tighter control on the available FX in the market. When dollar inflows are sent to Nigerian accounts via services like worldRemit, Western Union etc. The conversion to naira is handled by third parties not directly affiliated with the CBN. TransferWise used a company called DusuPay the few times I've used them.

This new directive means that instead of remitting naira to banks. These third parties remit USD providing much more USD in circulation to the banks and in extension the CBN.

It might and it might not arrive that fast. But from my observations you should get your package in no more than one and half months if you use AESS.

For my last two orders, one got to me in about 1 month and a week. The other was just under a month.

For the current orders. Two were shipped about three days ago. One is already dispatched to Nigeria. The other is yet to be picked up by the carrier. The last one is sort of a scarce item, so it's taking the supplier some extra time to have it shipped.

I've noticed that there's been issues with items arriving in Nigeria and taking quite a while to get to local POs.
For my shipping address, I use the headquarters(shipping headquarters that is) of Nipost in Abuja. It's easy for me to drive over there and pick up the item. I feel that cuts off the extra processing time it would take to sort the item, move to the next post office and the next... before it gets to my PO. But this is purely anecdotal I don't have any hard facts to back it up.
