Counter 8,One old white guy. at Abuja yesterday was tough. But, what I discovered about him is that he wanted people to prove their cases strongly. It's like Counter 7 guy was undergoing training. Cos, somebody was giving him clues of questions to ask. Cos they are two there. Counter 9 girl is very lovely even though she was not dashing out VISA like gift too.She interviewed about 3 families before me and their cases were strong.They were all granted.

Counter 7 guy was very busy, I was just speaking in tougues that God should let this counter 7 guy be ready when it's my turn but Later I said God let your will be done. Take me to where I am going to get the VISA. As God will have it, Counter 7 guy just got ready. Next Applicant. Immediately I heard next applicant, God just brought a confidence into me that I couldn't explain.

I will post my experience soonest. My internet is down and phone battery is almost flat now.

Anika Shiloh: Yay! I and hubby got our visas yesterday(10th) @ Lagos. It was God all the way through.

7.30am appointment. At the first spot before entering where they check and arrange the docs in ur passport, the lady there said we should go together to be interviewed together since we r married and in same sch, same course. So we did.

There was a guy @ window 3 that was refusing almost everyone and he was the only one free wen our number was next but he got called away, returned, went away... he was just busy till another guy was free @ window 7 - we were so glad.

Hubby: Good afternoon
VO: (smiles and says Good Morning)

VO: Both going for F1 (wondering y he is interviewing us together - yet to change my name)
Hubby: We are married (was bringing out the marriage certificate but the VO waived not to bother)

VO (@ me): Where do you work and what do you do there?
Me: I am a medical Doctor. Work @ ... School Clinic. Attend to ill students and staff. liaise with the LGA for immunizations for under fives, organise health seminars regularly for the students and staff

VO: So, y do u wanna study MPH?
Me: Most pxs of the diseases could be prevented. Public health is a field that deals with promoting and protecting the health of a population. thus want to gain knowledge that would help me improve the health of a large group of people at a time is my aim

VO (@ hubby): What school and wen did u graduate?
hubby: Col of Med, Unilag 2007

VO: How did you know about UAB and Y did u choose it.
Hubby: Through the SOPHAS website. Course content in dept @ UAB suits well in the track of public health I'm interested in (then explained how the field is to his current job) and my course advisor does research in that field with projects in Nigeria.

VO: Wen is school resuming
Both: August 15th

VO: Did you write GRE
Both: Yes

VO: Who's ur sponsor?
Me: My brother is sponsoring us both

VO: What does he do?
Me: Comp scientist and web programmer, top nigerian site (told him name so he could check up if he wanted), partnership with Google

VO then starts typing on his computer. Hubby had brought all his documents out of the file ready to show any but the VO did not even request to see any document

VO: (tears the green ticket) come pick visa...

It was just God.

The guy who interviewd me was on old guy in booth 8. Although he denied one or two persons before me, he was quite warm and friendly.

The guy in booth 7 was young and harsh. denied almost every one that he interviwed. He had one kind of face dat said you CAN'T bullshit me. Imagine what he asked one guy, "this school is very expensive and in a very expensive city, why do u chooose to spend this ammount of money instead of investing it in your future in Nigeria". after that question d applicant just the fumble, na im my guy deny am oh!!

The babes in booths 6 and 9 are sha thorough oooo. The questions I heard them asking people enh? Like say na state CID interrogation. But they were granting sha.

My F1 VISA was approved last week at the Lagos Consular General. It will be most selfish of me not to narrate my ordeal, in hope it will be resourceful to someones else.



Me: Hi, good afternoon
VO: Can I have your passport (as arranged from the gate by officers there @ Lagos Consular.
VO: Which school are going to?
Me: Xyz university
VO: Which other schools did you apply to?
Me: I applied to 3 other namely, clarkson uni, unm, ncat
VO: Which university did you attend?
Me: I attended OAU and studied …………..
VO: When did you graduate?
Me: 2008
VO: What have you been doing since then?
Me: I worked in xyz company during my youth service in Ilorin as floor maintenance engineer for a yr in …... Then 1 1/2 yrs with so and so. And just joined company abc(started wearing ID card)
VO: So what do they do?
Me: They are into design, installation and sales of air conditioners
VO: What’s your role there?
Me: I design and sell.
VO: How much do you earn?
Me: 80k plus x% upon successful sale
VO: So how much does that come to annually?
Me: 'Bout 1.8m-2m

VO: So if you are to design HVAC system for...let's say Intercontinental building...do you know the building?

Me: MS xxxx engineering
VO: You had full scholarship from xyz
Me: Yea, but it’s not full (so I showed him the remark section)
VO: Oh...so your uncle will be paying $17k balance..(I kept correcting him)
Me: Yes.
VO: So are you going into partnership with him after graduation (never thought this that way, he gave me clue-na God)
Me: Na so I knack am-o yes
Here is his acct statement. Fortunately, his company name is uncle’s name & Partners. So I used it to buffer and showed him, that we are partnering. After all he is into building projects for so and so state government.
VO: Hmmm (shaking his head)
He said, pick your visa at ... (I was blank)...I rushed away with slip and doc.

Personal Observation:
Dressing: Though I have 2nice pairs of suit and 1 lovely jacket. I opted for chinoes and shirt, with a black footwear. A lot of people who got similar visas in my presence were not in suit. You need o see lads with short with red chinoes...(got it ofcourse). So maybe you can let go if it.
Distraction: I met an Ungrad school mate, the guy was just gisting and became such a nuisance. I kept mute...guy, am here on a mission free me (kept saying that within). responded in few words. He changed seats and came to meet me 'cos I kept relocating. This is not the place to familiarize. Then he started, I see you are scared...Me? no, am not. Beware of this (ototo larin wa - yoruba).
VO: He didn't request for my GRE and TOEFL. Though I wrote GRE twice and TOEFL once.
VISA Issuance: In my opinion, no person can really boast he got this on his/her merit. They seem to only give, after the conviction, you have genuine intention(s)/bonafide, academically sound and "convince" the VO enough the opportunity will better you.

Allohrandy: I went to the US consulate Lagos by 6am today for my 7.30am appointment. I also met a fellow nairalander walex there. so we had a little chat before our regular screening by the security officers in the Consulate. At about 7.30am we were all usher in to the Embassy complex. At about 9am, my number was called for my visa interview with the v.o in counter one immediately he interviewed and granted walex his visa. This was how my interview went.
V.O= can i have your document
me: i gave him my document
v.o: why did you apply to sfsu?
me: sfsu has an industrial assessment center that is use for conducting research in energy system and its school of engineering is over 12o years old making it the oldest in California state uni
v.o: what oda school did you apply for?
me: told him
v.o: why didnt you accept the oda school?
me: didnt get accepted
V.O: what course are you going for?
me: Msc in Energy systems Engineering
v.o: why do you want to study Energy Systems Engineering
me: i decided to study Energy systems because Nigeria Energy sector is still developing and as he may have notice the power situation in Nigeria is not too regular but the government is trying to fix the energy problem in Nigeria so there is high demand for energy engineers in Nigeria.i also told him my dad work in an Energy company that is EXXON MOBIL so i ( v.o cuts me)
V.O: So your dad works in Mobil?
me: yes
V.O: can i have a letter from Exxon Mobil to confirm that?
me: (confuse because i didnt come with any letter from Mobil)i have my dad's salary payslip and his Mobil salary statement of account( i gave him the documents and i was scared because my the amount in my dad's statement of account was 500,000 naira short of the amount on my i20 form! luckily, the V0 looked only at my dad's monthly salary payslip which were in six figures)
v.o: has your dad traveled to us?
me: yes. Exxon Mobil headquarters in Texas
v.o: (typing on his computer)
me i guess he brought out my dad's ds-160 form from his computer)
v.o: your dad has also traveled to an asia country, can you please tell me the country?
me: ( surprised!!, how the Bleep did he know that? but i didnt fill that on my ds-160) yes, China. for an Exxon mobil training
v.o: there is also another country in Asia that he has traveled to, can u please tell me?
me: ( thinking for like 20 sec because i could not remember the other country, all of a sudden i just remembered it) he also traveled to Singapore in 2005 also for Exxon Mobil training course
v.o:how many kids does your dad have?
me: told him
v.o: whats your position in your family
me: told him
v.o: when did you graduate from uni
me: aug 2010
v.o: what have you been doing since you graduated?
me: serving my nysc and will be passing out by july( i lied o. i be batch c and na November be my pop.that is after my schools resumption date of aug 17th)
v.o: ok.did you write GRE
me: yes( i give him my score sheet and was scared because my verbal score was 143 which is kind of low)
v.o: OK. your visa has been approved( at this point i was not listening to him, i was just happy to listen to him) bla bla bla bla on friday( i guess he said my visa will be ready on friday)
so please if you want to lie better be careful o because the v.o may have information on you either thru your family member ds-160 form. Before the interview i was praying to God not to give me this v.o because he asks 2 much questions to visa applicants unlike the oda V.Os but God knew the reason why i got interviewed by him.

The Lord that led u there, did not forsake you... and He won't forsake us that are going that same way. . . Amen

GboyegaD: Do you have the 14th opened for you? If not, why not go with July 7th given to you and present your TOEFL since that was what you used in obtaining admission?
