CareerRe: MSc In UK Versus N183k Job Offer: Advice Please by Krucifax(m): 10:47am On Sep 08, 2017
DanXplore:
Please, i could use some career advice from great nairalanders. Please tag monikers that you think would be of great help, as i am at a crucial point in my career.

I am a graduate of chemcal engineering but for 2years now, have not gotten any engineering related job. The only job i got was at KPMG (audit), which i resigned after 3 months due to some personal reasons. I am currently an Area Sales Rep with a poultry feed production company that pays 183k per month (net take home after tax and other necessary deductions), though i could use up to 20 to 25k to fuel my car monthly.
Now, i just got a PTDF scholarship offer to study Advanced process integration and design in UK but not really sure if it is worth ditching my current job for it.

I am not very confident about securing a job once i finish msc because only a handful of opportunities come for chemical engineers. more also,UK rarely retains Nigerians.

Please what are your advices, especially from those who have done Msc in Uk.

I need your advices, i dont want to make a costly mistake.
Friend advice is always good when it's from people with experience of the subject matter where advice is sought.
I studied (law degree,MBA) and live in the U.K.
With my prestigious degrees I eventually didn't work in my field of study (This is very common).
I only live in the U.K because of i have a Nigerian and British passport. (If I didn't they would have chased me away).
The U.K is not what it used to be. The Tory led government has made things difficult for foreign students.
Previously you could work and study at the same time as a foreign student. That has been stopped.
Previously after your studies you could work for a few years. That has been stopped.
Previously U.K degrees were world renowned. Now with a U.K degree applying for a Nigerian job you will find hundreds of other applicants just like you who studied abroad (U.K,U.S etc)but are looking for jobs.
Do not leave the security of your current job for the cold and foreboding location that is the U.K.
You can study via "distance learning" or do an online degree with a U.K , U.S university. You'll have the best of both worlds without taking on the risk and debts that follow.
There was a time when leaving good jobs in Nigeria for study in the U.K made sense. That time is long gone my friend. A word is enough for the wise.

Bad belle for the progress of others is why some people never progress. She said she was interviewed by CNN and she was indeed interviewed by CNN. Finally the Chicken has come home to roost. Now the writing on the wall is clear.

We warned people about the Northern strategy that has never changed but they said Igbo wants to divide Yorubas and Hausas.

I have respect for all my country men and women and I have no hatred towards anyone as your success or failure has no impact on my life or destiny. However some of us are older and more experienced and as such feel a responsibility to point out things that others do not see.

The average Igbo man wants to be financially successful of the strength of his business or ventures.

The average Yoruba man wants to be financially successful of his life activities.

The average Hausa Fulani wants to be financially successful. He is also religiously and politically motivated. His hope is that the country is permanently led by a Hausa Fulani. He believes he is part of a majority and by right is superior to all other Nigerians and that his ambitions should take priority.

So any alliance with Hausa Fulani regardless of whatever was agreed initially must benefit the Hausa Fulani more than others eventually. This is how they view things. It's not that they are wicked or evil. It's just that they can not accept rulership of any other tribes.

Tinubu is no fool and knows this but engineered this abomination to benefit him. Unfortunately he was check mated by the Cabal in the Presidency and Saraki in the Senate. Now our brothers from the West have realised the truth and are closely watching their backs. If you do not learn from history you are bound to repeat the mistakes of yesterday.

PoliticsRe: Only 10 Out Of 45 Registered Political Parties In Nigeria Have Websites by Krucifax(m): 12:54pm On Jul 11, 2017
itsdumebi:
Only 10 out of 45 registered political parties in Nigeria have registered and official websites. The national president of the Computer Guild of Nigeria (CGN), Wole Adedoyin made this known at a press conference on Sunday in Lagos State.

In a very short time, websites have become vital campaign and communication tools for political parties around the world.

Political parties and candidates in the United States began to adopt the internet during the election campaigns in 1996. Political parties in Nigeria started using it in 2001. Even though most parties then did not have a real conception of how to use the medium and many of them set up websites primarily to be seen to be keeping up with technology. And the fact that Nigerian parties and candidates then simply feared being left behind.

According to Wole Adedoyin, the parties with visible websites are New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) @www.newnigeriapeoplesparty.org , Peoples Progressive Party (PPP) @ www.pppnigeria.org, All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA) @ www.apga.org, Labour Party (LP) www.labourpartyng.org, Advanced People Democratic Alliance (APDA), @ www.apdanigeria.org, All Progressives Congress (APC) @ www.allprogressivecongress.org , Action Democratic Party (ADP), @ www.actiondemocraticparty.org, Young Democratic Party (YDP) @ www.ydp.ng, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), @ www.peoplesdemocraticparty. com.ng, KOWA Party (KP) @ www.kowaparty.net.

Mr. Adedoyin who is also the national coordinator of Democratic Writers Association of Nigeria said that only 32 out of 45 registered political parties in Nigeria have facebook accounts.

“Website is one of the major tools for canvassing, mobilizing, sensitizing, educating and engaging grassroots voters. A typical party website would be strong, have detailed information on party organization and structure including profiles of some party officials at both the national and state levels”.

“My advice to INEC is to compel all registered political parties in the country to have functioning websites so as to allow the public to have access to their programmes and manifestoes”.

http://politicsngr.com/2017/07/11/10-45-registered-political-parties-nigeria-websites-adedoyin/
It's not just political parties it's businesses, organisations and institutions. I'd say over 70% of them in Nigeria don't have websites. Which is incredibly strange. If you don't have an online profile your sales and marketing strategy is a joke.

How will prospective clients have an opportunity to decide to use your services, buy your goods or join your organisation? Even if you advertise after the advert how can people review who you are.
If you are based in Abuja and the potential client is in Lagos how can he or she have a chance to look at what you are offering? ? Hiw cannyou expand and grow?? Its always left me scratching my head!!
TravelRe: Is Travelling Out Of Nigeria Only Way To Escape The Harsh Economic Situation? by Krucifax(m): 9:54am On Jul 09, 2017
boyo123:
Recently i have been under lots of pressure from friends and family asking me to try and get a visa to leave the country, but i have declined

i understand that things are not well organised in this country but travelling out to me is like putting yourself in an uncertain situation , you don't even know what to expect when you get there

The most annoying for me is the fear of being denied a visa again after trying some years back

I will prefer to rather put my money into a small business here in Nigeria no matter how small and try to grow from there

At least i know some people that have travelled out of the country for years and when ever they come back home they still cant afford a house of their own, they stay with relatives that has never even been to Ghana before

What is your opinion on these nairalanders
At OP a Visa generally speaking is temporary permit allowing you to travel through or to another location.
So it would not help you escape anything. Of course unless you intend to flout the visa conditions and disappear upon entering the said country.
If you can secure a Work Visa on the other hand it is much better. However this "normally" requires you to secure employment beforehand or find a potential employer that would guarantee you a job when you enter.
There is of course other methods previously the UK had a skilled migrant programme that allowed you apply without the requirements above but they've stopped this. Australia and Canada still offer this to a degree.
However for this to be an option for you, you have to be proficient in a sector where there are skill shortages like the medical sciences (nursing etc) or Information Technology etc.
PoliticsJigawa State Declares Public Holiday For Buhari Prayers by Krucifax(op): 10:09pm On Jul 07, 2017
The Government of Jigawa declared Friday July 7 as a public holiday in the state . This is according to Alhaji Ismai'il Ibrahim Public Relations Officer so that the "entire" indigenes of the state can pray to "Allah" for the quick recovery of President Buhari.

Whilst it's not in my place to dictate to the state government of Jigawa it beggars belief that they would do and say such things. An entire day of productivity has been lost. It's also an unfortunate comment to assume that the "entire" indigenes of the state prays to "Allah" It shows lack of sensitivity and a lack of leadership something that is the norm in Nigeria these days.

Car TalkRe: UBER Driving: Analyzing The Pros And The Cons, All You Need To Know by Krucifax(m): 3:26pm On Jul 06, 2017
Esseite:
Trust me... uber is not for the faint hearted...

My story....

My uber driver bailed on me after the reduction on fairs..

Decided to drive it myself to see how it goes...
Got to the filling station, filled my car with N10,000

Activated the trip metre as i had registered myself finally the previous day.

Long story short...

At the end of the day
I had spent:
Fuel - N10,000
Car wash - N1,000
Panadol - N200 (very important)
Toll gates to pick ups - N500
Feeding - N1000 (2 square)
I had been driving round lagos for 14hrs total..
An increased mileage of 135miles (est from lagos to benin).

I calculated my cost...
I service my car at 3000 miles with mobile 1.
@ 135 miles a day i should service approx every month. Which cost me 30k(6 ltr) with filter. And workmanship approx.

Divide that, approx 1k per day on service, my a/c was on all through, my engine was on virtually all through as uber kept linking trips before the previous ends.

Well.. i made almost 19k that day after exhausting the fuel to reserve.
But i had spent - N14,000 including service forcast. Excluding forcast repair major/minor

I had serious back pain and slimmed out in hours.. my linkages were worn out and i knew my a/c might fail at such pressures, talk more of the engine that adds approx 150miles every day coupled with exposure to dents.

I calculated my income after expense to know if it could buy another car before this one dies off. I had made just N5,000 assumed profit.

I told my self the truth and appreciated the driver..

Its good yeah, but trust me, its not for the FAINT HEARTED with the current review.

A rider took me from lekki ph 1 to deep deep egbeda, the trip was N4,500 at 8pm (i was naive and never knew uber drivers call to reject trips). had to drive back to the island alone.. its was penny wise, pound foolish.

The snap shot above was for the old price, would rather drive a danfo bus or trailer than opt to drive uber now.
Interesting insight and thanks for the information provided. I found a few potential cost reductions in your financial assessment.
1. Car Wash. = This is not a daily requirement. At least once a week should be sufficient saving you N6,000 @ N1,000 per wash.

2. Panadol = You don't need and should not take this every day. Also I'm guessing that the N200 is for the whole sachet or pack which I'm sure you are not taking the whole thing a day.

3. Car Services = Why are you servicing @ every 3000 miles?? Is that a contract condition for your warranty, lease or insurance?? It's absolutely not necessary not even for a public transport vehicle. Private vehicles should be serviced at least once a year. Commercial vehicles obviously have to be more regularly but not once a month. Thats a waste of money. At your current practise you are spending N360,000 per annum @ N30,000 per month. You can service your car once every two months saving N180,000 per annum.

The bit I don't know and was wondering if you can shed light on is potential post expenses earnings for car owners using the services of drivers for Uber.
PoliticsRe: The Real Target Of The Northern Youth Is Yorubas Not Igbos! by Krucifax(op): 12:57pm On Jun 25, 2017
Ultimately people have to make their own minds up. Nigeria is and has always been a political and tribal hotbed. The best some of us can do for others is to shed some light on the facts and provide insights.
PoliticsThe Real Target Of The Northern Youth Is Yorubas Not Igbos! by Krucifax(op): 2:08pm On Jun 24, 2017
This is a brief post that calls for all Nigerians to put on their thinking caps and see what is really going on in Nigeria. To do this you need to look beyond the decoys and smoke screens that are abound currently.

We are all aware of the recent announcement made by a coalition of Muslim Northern Youth directed at people of the Igbo Tribe resident in the North of Nigeria. This announcement demanded that the Igbo People vacate Northern Nigeria.

Firstly for those of you without a great understanding of Nigerian geography know this. There's nothing like ONE Northern Muslim Nigeria. Many regions considered North by other Nigerians are not. Indigenes of these regions regularly disassociate themselves from being called North and consider themselves MIDDLE BELT.
Secondly many indegenes of these regions are Christians and not Muslims. If Nigeria was to split (and I do not support this) you'd see that the "North" is smaller and has less political clout than they like to make out.

Now to the subject matter. The So-called Northern Youth's announcement was directed at the Igbos but it is all part of an elaborate plan to blind side the Yorubas.
It has become clear to them that Buhari has been severely weakened due to health problems and is no longer able to effect the office of President. Constitutionally speaking Vice-president President Osibanjo is now the de-facto President of Nigeria!! This is a fact that many of the so-called Northerners can not stomach!! Unknown to many a cabal in the Senate tried to get Osibanjo to resign office months ago. Osibanjo refused and even had to make a public statement to the effect that he was not under pressure to resign.

When this approach failed they devised a new and potentially deadly ploy. Using the IPOB agitation ( which I also don't support) as a decoy the plan was to create civil unrest in the some Northern states via the quit notice to the Igbos. This civil unrest a bit like the Boko Haram crisis gives them multiple opportunities. Listed below.

1. Involvement of the military.
Not to long ago there were rumours of a military coup in progress. Even Tinubu and other notable politicians came out to make public statements denouncing military involvement in Nigerian democracy. The plan was to use the military to oust Osibanjo under the guise of martial law.

2. Vote of no confidence new elections.
With a civil unrest brewing in the North constitutionally Osibanjo can be impeached with a Northern replacement for the office of President.

Understand this the Muslim North speak with one voice. The announcement made by the Youths was a carefully planned thing that had been pre-vetted by powerful politicians. Politically speaking the only current threat to their dominance is not the Igbos but the Yorubas. Be wise and see the chess moves.

lajoshua:
Discussing with a friend here, I asked "what is the two most influential invention of all time on human life to you?"
He said:"Electricity and motor vehicles"
Quite dicey to me, I'd say " Electricity and the internet"
what do you think? In your opinion what are the two most influential inventions that as influenced and changed the way we do things the most.
.
The TWO most important innovations in human history are 1. Discovery and manufacturing of Anti- Biotics. 2. Manufacturing of farm tools.

Humanity has survived and existed for thousands of years without either electricity or internet. Whilst they are very useful they are not a prerequisite for human survival.

1.Anti-Biotics has saved literary millions of lives. Without it thousands of people will be dieing every day from simple inflections and disease.

2. Farm tools (sickle and hoe) With these billions of people all over the world were able to cultivate the soil and grow plants for food on a large scale. These actually revolutionised human society and ensured humanity was no longer having to forage in the bushes and starve. It also lead to the founding concepts of commerce.
If you have looked carefully you would have noticed there are many many countries in the world that have a Sickle on there flag or coat of arms. These is because of the significance and symbolism of the farm tool sickle.

BLINGZ88:
it is funny how Nigerians talk about debt as if it is a calamity. every developed country is indebted deeply. the only problem with debt is
1. when foreigners hold most of the debt.
2. when the money borrowed is not used for capital projects that will create future revenues for the government.
3. when government use the borrowed money to pay subsides. this one is the worse .
Debt indeed can be a calamity when it isn't used properly. To paraphrase you "every developed country is indebted". The part you forgot to add was that the citizens of those countries enjoy the dividends from which the debt was invested. I ask you fellow citizen can you boast of not having used your generator for electricity in the last month?
Debt utility is a paradox in Nigeria we make and owe vast sums of dollars but there isn't any evidence of this reflected on the lives of the common man on the street.

You young guys should be smarter than this. This is not fake it is indeed the actual pay slip. However what you should have said and what is indeed true is that this isn't their main source of income. You can't be earning less than N400k a month and have properties worth N100s of millions. That's where the whole corruption thing comes into play.
There's another lesson to take from here and it's all these people that lie about how much they earn as salary, essentially by claiming to make millions. Even the Senate President's official salary after tax is less than N500k a month. Even the President of Nigeria earns officially less than a N900k after tax a month.
Then you'll hear one jumped up little sh*t claiming Oil and gas engineer that he is making millions. People should learn to tell the truth.

metrosexual:
The only thing Owerri is known for its the rise of prostitution and cultism.

Especially prostitution, young and old are into it, you would be surprised to see a woman as old as your mum touching you and saying she wants to spend a night with you, I was shocked when I experienced this!

Then the young ladies are so into it too. The University students take it as a prerequisite course or something grin

The boom business in Owerri is building and owing hotels/motels and you should know why this is so.

For me, the place to be in Igboland is Enugu!

Perfect city! Affordable, clean place, nice road network, efficient inter-city transportation, well-planned city.

The first time I visited Enugu I was wowed! A 5k hotel in Enugu is up the standard of a 15K hotel in Abuja/Port Harcourt/Lagos.

And if your eyes love to see those fair and lovely skinned beautiful Igbo girls with natural beauty, you would see a lot of them in Enugu as well grin

Enugu still has lots of fun place to go to, I never knew they even had GAME stores in Enugu.

Enugu rocks! I would go there every weekend if I can!
You are a shameful example of why some disrespectful people insult the Great Igbo Tribe. You could have given us a nice narrative about Enugu WITHOUT first taking a swipe at Owerri. Prostitution is found everywhere from London to New York to Lagos to Owerri, Imo to Enugu. There are a great many other wonderful things about both Owerri and Enugu. Have some sense when you speak it'll stand you in good stead.

However on IT Jobs Watch which has a list of ALL IT Jobs permanent and temp with corresponding pay the highest daily pay is £550 or N269,500 per day at current exchange rate. So maybe he knows something we don't or maybe he's referring to an IT "business owner" in that case they can easily make far more than a £1000 a day but not a worker either on PAYE or Limited.

Over here a Bus driver and a Lawyer can be earning the same salary. Over here some Bricklayers earn the same as some Accountants.
There are many different paths that take less time, cost less money and can earn you the same or more than others. If I tell you to become a Brick Layer you'll probably say God forbid.
What if I tell you that I know a couple of brick layers that started their own business contracting to construction firms earning £32,000 every two months. The same £32,000 I was earning a year with my prestigious shiny degree and my nice suit and tie!!
Naij culture programmes us towards prestige (Lawyer,Doctor,Accountant) which is all very well and good. But if money is what you are after, more times than often you are actually misinformed and are looking in the wrong direction.
CareerRe: How Much Was Your Very First Salary As A Graduate Or Non Graduate? by Krucifax(m): 7:32am On Apr 10, 2017
While I studied in London in the early 2000s I was on a salary of £12000 per annum which is about N5,800,000 today.
When I graduated and had a full permanent graduate salary role a couple of years back I was then on £32,000 per annum which is over N15,000,000 per annum at today's rates. I've since moved up by "a bit".

But the lesson I took from it is that I really didn't need the degree. If i had known then what I know now i would have gone down a different path and today I'll be earning double of £32,000. It was my Naija mentality and not realising that white people put priorities on different things to us Africans "in their country ".
