I think some of you above are missing the point or are deliberately being smart by a half. GEJ had appointments for people from all over the country but he never cornered posts to one region as we are now witnessing. The above list is that of only Northerners to show they were not being marginalised as is being claimed in some quarters. |
Much has been made of President Buhari's recent appointments. Some see them as being nepotism, with him giving a majority of the appointments so far to Northerners. In response to this some have defended by saying that under Jonathan the Northerners were also not given a fair shot at key positions. This list below totally debunks that. It shows that whilst Jonathan had many failings nepotism and traibalism was not one. GEJ ran an inclusive government, and we admonish Mr President to do the same. Competence, ability and integrity is not the sole preserve of any one region. You should have a government that reflects the diversity of the great nation of Nigeria. Having lived in Abuja,Lagos and currently London I have made observations of what all the cities are like and have made comparisons. Abuja is a great city of now and the future while Lagos is largely a has been. Although Lagos is an interesting place it's best days are behind it while Abuja is the place to be now and for the future. Below are the comparisons of the reasons why Abuja is better than Lagos. 1. Infrastructure Abuja's infrastructure (roads, drainage, building standard's,etc) is light years ahead of Lagos. This is because Abuja was and is being built to strict city planning standards handled by a few govt agencies . This makes a drive through Abuja a beautiful experience. Lagos on the other hand is a free for all due to corruption, poor planning and confusion caused by bogus traditional claims on land (omo nile). This means large swats of Lagos has poor roads, poor drainage, poor electricity and the regular building collapse. 2 .Security Abuja is the seat of govt as such security is paramount in the town. With regular patrols and activities by security agencies to protect lives and properties. Besides this Abuja isn't plagued with the incessant cases of armed robbery, burglary, kidnapping, ritual killing, agbero activities, cultists and traditional criminals used by local politicians that fill Lagos. In Abuja you can comfortably take a stroll at any time of the day. In Lagos some areas are no go at any time of the day. 3. Beauty. Besides the beautiful architecture and man made structures. Abuja is blessed with beautiful views and scenery. Large green land and picturesque landscape. With many hills and picnic spots and lakes. Lagos is blessed with beaches but due to greedy land grabbing practises, pollution and climate change some of these are not as nice as they were years ago. 4.Quality of life This is a no brainer. If you've ever lived in both locations you know Abuja beats Lagos hands down on this. Lagos is suffering from massive pollution levels and poor infrastructure making life here very stressful and frustrating. It's a common practice to start a journey to work many hours before your start time due to traffic congestion in Lagos. In Abuja most residents are able to reach their place of work within an hour or less and without the hassle of touts and criminal law enforcement people that plague Lagos. 5.Employment It's a statistical fact that Abuja is one of the fastest growing cities in Nigeria and a major one for the whole of Africa. Many companies are settling up base or are about to. This provides lots of employment opportunities for job seekers. Also all govt agencies have either their hq or wing in Abuja a fact most states can't boast of. 6. Peaceful Environment Abuja provide a peaceful, safe and serene environment to live, raise a family and work. Lagos on the other hand is the hassle and stress capital of Nigeria. You are most likely to live a longer healthier life in Abuja than Lagos which has many ill health causing factors. 7. Law and Order Abuja can not ever be compared to Lagos when it comes to Law and Order. Abuja is a civilised orderly city. Lagos on the other hand is a free for all with traditional chiefs, car park touts, agberos, omo nile, alayes etc all dispensing their own brand of wild west justice. It is not unheard of for omo nile to drive people away from their property on the instructions of a local kingpin. Something that is impossible in Abuja. 8. Business Opportunities As a fast growing city Abuja's population is expanding by the thousands every day. This provides opportunities for businesses to provide goods and services to the population including associated things like building and transport, feeding, etc. 9. No Tribalism or Ethnic Hostilities Abuja unlike Lagos is a safe haven for all Nigerians regardless of their tribes. Here people of all tribes and religions have held and hold important positions of public office and are able to own property and conducts their business unharrassed. Lagos on the other hand is known for tribal/ethnic hostilities. In Lagos your tribe is more important than competence to hold public office or do and own certain things. 10. Investment Haven All the points raised above lend themselves to the ultimate fact that Abuja is far better safer haven for investment than Lagos. You wouldn't need to worry about the many things you would worry about in Lagos. If for example you bought land and were in diaspora in Abuja your investment is safe in Lagos it's probably not with the traditional chiefs laying claim, multiple selling or the omo niles muscling you of your property. Abuja is a far better place than Lagos no questions asked. |
Since El-Rufai disputes the accuracy of the media report let him challenge it in court and let's all then know the truth. The media is the last arbiter of truth in modern society. If not for their investigative work and whistle blowing everyone would be in the dark about what politicians are really doing and we would not have a means to shine a light on the goings-on of our society. |
This spells doom and disaster for Nigeria. The new President's response to sources of more funding is 1.Recovery of stolen money and 2. Withdrawal from the excess crude account. 1.Recovery of stolen money Recovering stolen money isn't an overnight process. Some of this stolen wealth in Nigeria and overseas first have to be located. Then comes the lengthy process of tribunal and court cases and counter court cases that are required to first apportion guilt to the offender and then subsequently attempt to recover said stolen money or assets wherever they are. This can take many years just for one case to be completed talk less of different cases!! 2. Withdrawal from the excess crude account. This one is an even bigger joke than the above. The excess crude account is already well depleted due to oil price collapse and subsequent withdrawals during the GEJ govt. Basically if this is attempted to address salaries the account could be empty by the end of the year. If this is really the best the President has to offer then we are really in trouble as a nation. I do not blame GEJ or Buhari. Nigeria fell victim to a global phenomena of falling oil prices. Made worse by the fact that previous leaders failed to diversify our economy enough and left Nigeria heavily reliant on oil money. Now that money has dried up we are staring bankruptcy in the face. I predict that unless oil prices rise to their former levels(which is highly unlikely because of Shale and entry into the market of countries like Iran),Nigeria is in for a long ride hard for years to come. Bear in mind that the oil price drop happened in less than 12months. So in less than a year Nigeria was not able to sustain itself and states can't pay salaries. Now imagine how it'll be in 2 or 3 years if oil price stay the same or drops. That'll be horror film playing out in Nigeria |
1. A confident Smile: 2. A firm handshake: 3. Steady Eye Contact: 4. Listen attentively before answering: 5. Look and smell good: 6. Practice self talk: 7. See if you can discover a problem with the company All the above whilst good points will only help you "appear" confident to the interviewers in the interview. To appear confident and to be really confident are two very separate things. The appearance of confidence will soon evaporate when the actual interview starts and you aren't able to deliver. Now true confidence comes from assurance and belief that you will do well in the interview. Consider the OP 's points as interview day dramatics which you can of course play. However the key to interview confidence is in preparation. below is how you do it. 1. Job title: Google the same job title and check for the job roles, job requirements and person specifications as advertised by other companies including your prospective employers. This will inform you of industry standards and what employers are looking for and the things they require in the job. It can also contribute to talking points in the interview where you highlight things they didn't even consider or mention thereby appearing to have more expertise. 2. Skill relevance: This is the most important aspect of ANY interview. This is where you are asked to demonstrate your suitability, experience, skill and based on the Job advertised. Example, some required skill sets are Project Management, Customer Service, Team Management etc. You will need to give brief running commentary on any qualification you have on the above. Secondly any experience you have with them, when you applied them and how you applied them. A good tactic is to tell them of a scenario or problem that you resolved satisfactorily using said skill set. In a nut shell you must be prepared to talk about aspects of the job, tell them you know and show them why. This part of the interview will count to about 80% of you getting the job or not. So sell yourself beautifully. 3. Role Play: This may sound theatrical but take it from me it'll be your ace card. After you have worked on my points 1 & 2 .Find a trusted friend or family member and do a mock interview. Where you give them the job advert and details you have gathered and ask them to start questioning you about each point. The purpose of this exercise is not so much about feedback which it could give, but for you to fine tune your interview day presentation. Consider the interview an act and this exercise your rehearsal. It's one thing to have an idea in your head but it's a totally different thing to express it when under pressure. After my uni in London years ago I worked as a temp/contractor for a long time(because the money was there and no immediate taxes). This meant I was doing 3-6months contracts and was interviewing regularly with some tough interviewers when my contracts ended or looking for new ones and in between. Being black and with an accent in an oyibo dominated industry meant i had to work hard to sell myself against the competition. This was what worked for me. If I can do it here then you can do it in Naija or wherever you are. Good luck. |
MORNDEW:The creation of a single local government area requires massive resources and new funding to manage the new entity. This includes millions of naira more to be spent on new salaries, equipment, buildings, legal documentation, administrative changes etc.Multiple this by 39 and you get the picture. For a state that is currently struggling with it's finances and tethering on bankruptcy,it's nothing short of madness. But if you were smart this would already be apparent. Evidently you are not. |
buodera:Please do humanity a favour and slap yourself for this comment |
seangy4konji:How can Nigeria be great when sensible people like you are on the minority?? See the f.oolish comments on here for a case point. When someone suggests something useful the backwards and 3rd world brain majority will always look to foul it with nothing useful or better in return. "He's lieing" "He has an agenda" "He's this or that". Okay what we do instead brainless critics?? |
Xtracoool:Please keep quiet!! What's your own contribution to youth empowerment in Nigeria?? Someone says something good and you immediately try to knock it without offering anything useful in response |
My candid advice to Nairalanders indeed even Nigerians is to verify the authenticity of every story before reacting. Vanguard said they got their information from a top source. With no name no authority etc. When we hear the same from an official spokesperson or government media rep then let's comment. Nigerian media is full of falsehoods these days. Monday they will say one thing by Tuesday they will say Monday's story was untrue!! |
Benz4pimp:Why are you so vexed about pics showing floods?? You say you can't see a flood? It's nothing new that Lagos has very poor infrastructure. Just thank God it's not your house drowning in flood waters then take your ignorant, blind self to an ophthalmologist for prescription glasses. Some Nigerians are real third world products!! |
Wildrage:They are now realising the true extent of what it means to be in the firing line. When they were in opposition it was easy to mud sling and criticize. Now they are on the hot seat and are now the focus of everyone's energy good and bad. |
donphilopus:Denial can be a terrible disease but I feel sympathy for you. Wetin concern Northern Youth and PDP again?? |
Megaphone:Hahahahahahahahaha you wicked o. See as you just expose the guy...Diarisgodo ![]() |
On a purely mathematical or numbers basis the Fulani will always dominate Nigeria. The colonialists didn't help by carving a Nigeria where half of the country geographically is Northern. Only unity of different groups can challenge the Hausa/Fulanis politically

kritikali:This has to be the funniest comment on here. It's similar to a man's neighbour running to his work place to tell him his house is on fire, and the m.u.m.u replies you are trying to trick me only to return after work to ashes where his house once stood. Na you get yourself oo! |
livingday:My friend do not deceive yourself. The hand writing is on the wall. Tinubu's plan was to attain power via a strong candidate in the form of a Buhari presidency. The second part of that plan (and most important) was to control the House of Assembly by having his preferred choice in control. The first part worked and in the second he has been given a checkmate. You see all along he thought he was using the north when in actual fact it was the north using him! They have now played their hand and he's being automatically sidelined. Tinubu will soon learn like Ameachi that the North only always plays in one direction and that is to the north. Just wait and see this is the tip of the iceberg. Whilst the Igbos have their flaws they are very amenable to compromise and can be reasoned with. The Northerners on the other hand expect and demand total control and domination this isn't about to change any time soon. Look at Nigeria's history for the facts.Any honest Yoruba man must now be soul searching as it's gradually becoming apparent that they've pitched their tent in the wrong camp. |
domack99:Which schools do you people attend these days? It's now rare to see comments in correct English or structure. It's a scary development. |
The figures (new entrants to Abuja) are actually an underestimation. It doesn't include admittedly impossible to calculate figures of hangers on and opportunists that will follow family, friends, colleagues, village kin etc that have recently acquired leadership and lucrative positions. A formula I would suggest is to multiply this figures given by at least five. That would give you an idea of the number of new Abuja residents coming. Here's a rough idea of how it works. Mr A has just been made Senator: With him will come his wife, children, girlfriend ![]() Also will be Mr A's Aide and official office. With their wives/husbands, children, girlfriends/boyfriends. Mr A's extended family are not about to miss out on the national cake/contracts(most of us Nigerian have extended family live with us at some point) Per above they too will be arriving with their own crowd. Don't forget that most Nigerian have secondary income or outside businesses established. Mr A the Senator probably has quite a few. He would be relocating the HQ to Abuja. This will come with another crowd of affiliates per all above. In addition to this crowd will be a new crowd of prospective opportunists who now have new links to government.Be them business men/women,contractors/companies etc. They to will be coming to stake a claim in the new environment. This isn't just a new leader but a total reshuffling of cabinet and party from one that has been in power for many years. There will be thousands of new faces and millionaires in Abuja. |
It all depends on the context in which you are jumping. By that I mean, 1. Reason why you left. 2. Time spent at each role. 3. Was your move within or outside your discipline/industry As someone who has been in employment for 15years I can tell you there are pros and cons. The first thing most prospective employers look at is 1.Experience. 2.Next qualifications 3.After that is role achievement/contribution(dependent on industry/sector). If you have role hopped within the same industry it is not a problem even if you didn't spend too much time in a particular role as long as the roles are similar!!! If however you role hopped but through different industries/sectors, you may be deemed an unsettled opportunist who is just looking for money and not career progression. Remember your c.v followed by references from previous employment will tell the prospective employer a lot about you. It's not so much about loyalty as some young uns on here are telling you but about what an employer thinks you can contribute to his/her company. Inevitably most people will leave a role at some point, every employer knows that. What they don't know is whether you've come to do a good job or have come to collect rent money till the next employer turns up. Hope this helps but I can clarify further if need be. |

RichDad1:Na wa o. If it was good news about Lagos you would have credited it to Fashola. Now it's bad news about Lagos is the fault of the President that was miles away in Abuja. Was GEJ a Lagos Commissioner or part of the Local Government Committee? Nigerian Hypocrisy is world class! ![]() |
