MORE facts have emerged on how Ms Dagan Laetitia Naankang, mother of two and an Assistant Director, Administration, State House, Abuja was gruesomely murdered.


The 47-year-old lady was killed by gunmen in her Abuja residence on Monday night after she left the State House about 8 pm.

It was reliably gathered that the deceased was killed by some criminal elements, otherwise known as Yahoo boys within the neighbourhood.

A source that pleaded not to be mentioned claimed that the deceased found that her environs in Lokogoma, an outskirts of the Abuja city centre was surrounded by Yahoo boys, which made her uncomfortable and told some of her friends that she was contemplating to relocate.

The source said it was out of concern over the presence of the boys that the deceased decided to report the suspected Yahoo boys to the police.

However, it was learnt that the police, rather than take advantage of the report to ensure that the suspected Yahoo boys face the full wrath of the law, they allegedly freed the suspects later.

The information was said to have been leaked to the assailants that it was Ms Naankang, who reported them to the police, and in what appeared to be a revenge mission, they resolved to subject Naankang to an agonising death.

She was reportedly tied in her apartment where she lived alone and subjected to all manners of indecent acts before they strangled her to death and set the objects she was tied with ablaze.

It was also gathered that her gateman, suspected to be an accomplice in the sad event, has been arrested and has provided useful information that could help in tracking the killers.
The source revealed that one of the killers took their victim’s mobile telephone away as he mistook it for his and left his own telephone at the crime scene.

The deceased, who hailed from Plateau State, according to a statement by Deputy Director, Information, Mr Attah Esa, on Tuesday, worked in her State House office on Monday till 8 pm, only to be gruesomely murdered in her apartment at 11 pm by unknown persons.

This is why i will continue to say that a good number of Nigerians don't understand how court processes and procedures are done. First you approach the court with your prayers....Apc uzodinma told the court to declare him winner of the imo election on the ground that his lawful votes from 313 units were excluded for no just cause. Pdp prayers was that the result present by uzodinma was forged and not from Inec. The supreme court looked at the facts by asking pdp to present the authentic result f those units since they claimed that from apc is forged . They could not present any result. The supreme court further asked Inec to look into the result presented by apc to confirm if is forged but Inec confirmed that they result is signed by their staff and the police presented their own copy which tallies with what Apc brought. The judge's having since that Pdp and Inec are partners in crime decided to add the excluded result to the rightful owner ..,,that was how apc became governor. You cannot benefit from your mischieve....This is elementary law. The court is not father Xmas that will give you what u didn't ask for. As far as I am concern nothing will come out of the review cos justice was properly served.

Barely 24 hours to inauguration, the Supreme Court, yesterday, sacked the Governor-elect of Bayelsa State, David Lyon, and his Deputy, Biobarakuma Degi-Eremieoyo.

The apex court, in a unanimous decision by a five-man panel of justices led by Justice Mary Odili, nullified their election on the ground that Degi-Eremienyo presented false information to the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, in aid of his qualification for the Bayelsa governorship poll held on November 16, 2019.

Following the ruling, confusion, yesterday, enveloped Yenagoa, the Bayelsa State capital, though PDP faithful embarked on wild celebration.

David Lyon had in the early hours of the day conducted a rehearsal for today’s swearing in ceremony at the remodelled Samson Siasia Sports complex.

APC’s flags and other insignia were hoisted at strategic places in town with that of PDP pulled down.

However, the mood of the capital city was altered shortly after noon when news of the sacking of the APC governor-elect filtered into town.

A long convoy of heavily armed soldiers backed by armoured personnel carriers were sighted yesterday at about 1pm along the Mbiama Yenagoa road heading towards the heart of the state capital, ostensibly in a show of force.

Though the reasons for the large security presence could not be immediately ascertained, informed sources nonetheless told Vanguard that it might be in connection with the anticipated visit of President Muhammadu Buhari to the state tomorrow (Friday) for the inauguration of the APC governor-elect and the unveiling of the newly-completed ultra modern complex of the Nigeria Content Development and Monitoring Board, NCDMB.

It was also learned that the valedictory meeting of the state executive council, led by outgoing Governor Seriake Dickson, was in session when the news of the twist of event filtered in, causing wild jubilation.

The Creek Haven, Bayelsa Government House gate, was flung open as PDP supporters thronged the sprawling complex in wild celebration.

Meanwhile, the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has declared its readiness to act on the Supreme Court judgement but cannot do so now......


Of the the eight local councils of Bayelsa, the PDP candidate won two – Kolokuma/Opokuma, and Sagbama and got more than 25 per cent of the votes cast in Ekeremor, Yenagoa and Brass. It did not fare well in Nembe (about 19 per cent), Ogbia and Southern Ijaw where it got less than 10 per cent of the votes cast.

According to the apex court ruling, Diri, who came second in the election must have 25 per cent of the votes cast in more than five of the eight local councils. Two thirds of eight is 5.32 while Diri secured 25 per cent in five states.

It is to be seen how the INEC would resolve the issue, which is akin to the 12 two-thirds controversy that hallmarked the 1983 presidential election between late Chief Obafemi Awolowo and former President Shehu Shagari, also deceased. Then, there were 19 states. Shagari had simple majority and 25 per cent in 12 states instead of approximately 13. But the apex court handed him victory based on 12 two-thirds of 25 per cent spread.

Speaking on the issue, yesterday, Mr. Rotimi Oyekanmi, chief press secretary to the INEC Chairman, Professor Mahmood Yakubu, said: “We just heard the ruling on the radio. There is no official communication. We will act on the order when we get it.......

Reacting to the ruling, National Chairman of the ruling APC, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, said no candidate can be sworn-in today because none of the other candidates, apart from Lyon, met the requirement.

Noting that the Supreme Court ordered that the second candidate with the highest votes and 25 per cent spread across two-thirds of the local government areas be sworn in, Oshiomhole at a press briefing, yesterday declared: “Nobody will be sworn in on Friday (today) as the new governor in Bayelsa State.”

The Presidency has accused opposition politicians of paying miscreants to boo the presidential motorcade in Maiduguri, the Borno State capital, on Wednesday.

Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, made the allegation in an interview with the Hausa Service of the BBC, monitored by The PUNCH in Abuja, on Thursday.

Residents of Maiduguri had on Wednesday, booed the motorcade of the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari, (retd.), during his condolence visit to the state over the killing of over 30 travellers at Auno park.

Shehu said, “I was part of the delegation that entered Maiduguri right from the airport to the Palace of the Shehu of Borno. The people came out to say thank you and welcome us.

“But there was a group which came out shouting ‘we don’t want’.”

He said, maybe “some politicians gathered some miscreants and paid them money to boo Buhari”.

The presidential aide said whoever recorded the booing incident and shared it on social media didn’t do justice to the people of Borno State whom he said had a reputation for welcoming guests.

Shehu also said it was not possible to satisfy everyone since no human being was god, especially in a city like Maiduguri which has a population of four to five million people.

He noted that the regime of the President had demonstrated the capacity to fight Boko Haram and he had promised to change strategy in dealing with what he described as a new problem.

Father of suspected suicide bomber caught in Winners Chapel Kaduna last Sunday, Samuel Ezekiel, has expressed shock over the act of his son, Nathaniel.

He said the thought that Nathaniel could have killed thousands of worshippers in the service makes his shudder.

He also debunked rumour that Nathaniel is a Muslim.

No! Not even for a single day has he been a Muslim,” Nathaniel’s father,” Ezekiel, said in his Marabar Demishi village in Kaduna.

The alleged bomber’s true identity has become a controversy in the social media, with some accusing the police of changing his name to deflect anger against Boko Haram or the Muslim community.

Some reports said Samuel had told the Christian leaders who arrested him at the Winners Chapel branch in Kaduna that he was Mohammed Sani, only for the police to parade him as Nathaniel Samuel.

The father, who spoke along with the Kaduna state chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Reverend Joseph Hayab, revealed Nathaniel was born in 1991 and schooled in the state.

He stated his mother is from Nasarawa state even though she no longer lives with them.

Ezekiel also said he was shocked when he was told that his son carried a bomb into a church because he wondered what would have happened to the lives of people in the church.

“If he was alone, I don’t care but for the lives that are in the church, I begin to wonder. I shed tears,” he said.

Reverend Hayab Joseph said he knew the father of the suspect for many years, noting that it’s just that he didn’t know that Nathaniel was the son of Mr. Ezekiel until he visited the house.

He said CAN is not concerned about Nathaniel’s name or religion but the act of criminality that he would have committed which should be addressed.

He also expressed disappointment over the failure of the Police to do a thorough check on the suspect’s background, saying that would have saved Nigerians a lot of stress on the identity of the suspect.
