I will assume the statement was not from Tunde Bakare but some other religious leader...(could even be an Imam). I will like to look at it through the religious lenses. Religious leaders are religious irrespective of what you think or how you see them. Religion is their job and it comes first before any logical reasoning for them.

The smoking or drinking is not even the issue here, if I get the message correctly, the emphasis was on the name. And I do not think there is any religion in this world that do not take seriously. While I agree that this message shouldn't have come at a time when his people are still grieving, I think it's only normal for religious leaders to make examples of why adherents should be mindful of the names they bear.
