cap28: Don't mind him, he is in for a very rude awakening.
Jonathan will not deliver because he wont win it, the result has already been predetermined and I beleive that IBB will win it, not because he is the best man for the job, none of them are qualified for the job, as a matter of fact all of the current candidates ought to be rounded up and indicted on corruption and in IBB's case murder and drug trafficking charges, but hey this is nigeria that is never going to happen.
But yes as i was saying, IBB will win it because he has already been selected by the US as the preferred candidate, Jonathan is out of his depth and will not be able to fend off the hausa fulani oligarchy who do not even think he should be there in the first place. But IBB will deliver more draconian Structural adjustment policies which will further enrich the western financial institutions and sound the death knell for the nigerian economy and the nigerian people. bruv time will tell, just a few months to go |

i feel he will do well for the following reasons
1. he's the first Nigerian president to announce a road map and implementation plan for our dilapidated power supply
2. following number 1, if the plan works Nigeria will enjoy a transformational change, unparalleled in our 50 years
3. in a quiet and unassuming manner he's winning supporters from all geopolitical zones in the country. i believe he will use this goodwill to marry his goodluck. |

I really hope you are right about the north living without power for approaching 20 years (OBJ -8years, UMYA -2+years, GEJ-9 years). The way I see it, unless we are not talking about the northern Nigerians, I will not wave them off like that. The real test is whether GEJ can handle the real heat when it comes. I would not gloat. na so is on point. power has changed hands. the circumstances he got there are nothing short of miraculous and hes the best of a truly bad lot. |

I mentioned food and I stand by it. The chinese exported and still export their food worldwide today. Its a billion dollar market. The chinese by the way possibly have a worse human rights record than most, but because of exports such as food, films, and technology, this is buried. Don't underestimate food.I like in the UK which practically doesn't have a national food. The popular indian meal chicken tikks massala or tandori chicken has been adopted. India is also a 3rd world country. They got their acts today and today their food is exported world wide. Before america entered the industrial age just after slavery was abolished, it was a worldwide leader in agriculture, I.e. Food. |

Kobojunkie: Oh! So, you are convinced you actually answered the question asked by that? I believe the question asked was to get people to reveal what exactly it is that people don't already know of Nigeria and would maybe WOW them if they learnt of it or something. What you gave above seems more what I would expect from a Nursery school pupil asked to write of 10 nice things he would tell his friends of Nigeria or something. Not meant as an insult but your list there get as e be. opinions are like assholes. at the end of the day everyone has one. have a nice day. |

ada24: i'm waiting as well. no one seems to want to write this list. here goes 1. we are one of the most culturally diverse peoples in the world, from the tivs to the nupes, ibibios, yorubas, ibos, hausas, fulanis, etc. over 300 tribes and counting. 2. when it comes to food nigeria has a vast array of palatable dishes [im hungry thinking about] 3. we are abundantly blessed with rich natural and human resources in every nook and corner 4. nigeria is home to over 400,000 plant species throughout its land 5. nigeria houses warm people, if you disagree source funds for a good cause 'heart operation etc' and see how quickly funds are raised. aisha on this forum can attest to this. 6. nigeria has birthed some of the brightest people in the world, from renowned authors to geo physicists, economists, singers, footballers, doctors, professors, lawyers and hard core hustlers (the legal type) 7. nigeria owns some of the most resilient people. its amazing the suicide rate is low with crap we have to go through day by day. but for the resilience and never say die attitude, it would have crumbled a long time ago 8. no other country has more slangs, from effizy, effrebo, jonze, fashee, swegbe, mumu, dodoyo, oponu, were, swagger[borrowed], gbensh, knack, swave, ginger, yes o, and so on and so forth 9. nigeria has rich clothes. whenever i wear my agbada i feel rich, powerful and worthy. whether its worn in nigeria or overseas the casting looks by admirers sure makes the day a brighter one. a suit hasnt been quite able to match the same level of swagger, lol 10. investment wise for property nigeria is good. i got a piece of land in 2008 for about 3 million. today its valued at between 6 and 7 mill, thats what im talking about 11. last but not the least this generation has produced some pretty amazing talents. the list includes cobhams asuquo, chimamanda ngozi adochie, asa, 2face, 9ice, the late dagrin, dbanj, wande coal, psquare, tara [make up guru, only 32 years old], banke meshida-lawal [again make-up], ugoma ebilah[zebra fashion], deola sagoe [ fashion], tolu ogunlesi [234next], jide alakija [photographer]. my point is all these guys are doing extremely well and adding value to nigeria inspite of the hard conditions in the country. make yourself count and do your own bit, no matter how small. God bless nigeria and God bless you. |

On a more serious note i would ask you and any person who reflects why would nigeria and not another would be the subject of ridicule and negative criticism if something was not really wrong. The world over didn't just pull out our country from a pot of country names and started accusing us of stuffs. Its an established fact that we are guilty of all that has been laid on our doorstep. Even the uneducated, mechanic across my street dreams of millions anytime he sees my laptop. He thinks all he needs to do is learn to press the keyboard and pronto, money flows. He knows the money comes from another person's sweat but does he care? The ruling adults are only content with outsmarting themselves in the looting of the state treasury while the young do not care less. Some are even ready to support, campaign for or even kill for these politicians. Etc. And the bad part is- the world over can see everything we're doing. IT'S ABOUT CHANGING OUR ATTITUDE AND CHARACTER AS PEOPLE NOT JUST PICTURES AND VIDEOS.
BTW I plan on sending a pic of the sunset in a lagos beach. There's beauty even amidst the failure in that case I take it back.no vex, and thanks for being mature. Your post was bang on form and you captured the collective mood of the youth. The main reason why nigeria has a bad rep is due to abject lack of governance which led to increase in 419 and other ills. Having said that there are still positives. Its home. It has good weather. People are generally friendly and so creative. Food is also a plus |

dayokanu: The fact is that parents look forward to their kids being like them.
A man would love to have a son who would grow up to be like him, In him you would see a younger you.
If the man has a business, he looks forward to his son taking over his business. With daughters they might get married and not even live in the same Geographical location.
If you have a biz and your daughter was running it, when she gets married to a guy, In most cases the groom would decide where they would live and the daughter would have to move in with her husband.
Another point, female kids are usually more caring to the parents and a son might be carefree well said. why do you think wealthy europeans MAKE their future sons in law sign prenuptial agreements before marrying? this is to avoid a guy marrying the heir of a dynasty and pissing it all away[assuming the girl is the only child]. also it isnt unheard of for future sons in law to agree compound surnames and the kids to still bear their grandfather's name. this is particularly true of wealthy families. still very 2010, and very european/american |

hayo: [b]The matter of male child carrying the family name was relevant in the dark ages. [/b]When only men could work due to the strenuous nature of the jobs. And that continued till the industrial age where heavy machineries and the mines provided the jobs. These days where the good jobs are done with brains renders that totally irrelevant. Who cares if the child is a male or female. What matters is the quality of parenting, guidance and education as well as achievements. Do u think Serena and Venus Williams' father cares a hoot about their gender? Would u choose to have an "heir" even if he is a ganja smoking i d i o t ? And what silly inheritance are we talking about here? The small money left in the bank? Only weak men are afraid of not leaving a male child cos that is the only way their name can continue. Do u think Clinton or Obama give a hoot about not having sons? Their names would continue forever. And gone are the days when girls couldn't aspire to great heights. For me, my greatest legacy would be a good name, achievements and lives touched. Not children sired by my loins. They will be my achievements too but the gender matters not to me. By the way; I have a gorgeous girl who gives me joy. If she is the only child I will ever have, I will always bless God for the privilege. bros ye, it will always be as relevant as your wife taking your surname instead of the opposite. always. |

Goodyness: Some of you are just trying to deny the obvious? Inasmuch as there will be deviations, the research is somewhat accurate. [b]Look around you (office, church, neighbourhood, family etc) how many marriages are under pressure because of male child(ren). Truth is that a woman with 2 or 3 sons is not usually under the same kind of pressure that her counterpart with 2 or 3 daughters will be. why is that? [/b]call it african mentality or what you will. Chances are that even the extended family will come to the rescue of marriages with sons more than they will if the reverse were to be the case.
Have you ever heard that a man was 'forced' to take another wife because his wife couldn't give him a daughter but cases of the reverse abound, you don't need to look far. When you hear most men talk about their boys, there is this sense of 'I have to be there for them because they look up to me' and 'I also need to put my stamp of authority over them before they get out of hands' ORO [word] |
