A matter of choice. It is not all about the woman wanting to stay "pretty".  Some babies do not even like to breast feed and prefer the formula.  Some mothers have difficulty producing breast milk.  Others have the babies getting sick from poor hygiene from the mother's milk.  Others do not gain enough calories to maintain adequate weight gain status necessary for mental and physical development. So what do you do? undecided

Bill Gates did not breast feed, and I don't think he act like a cow either.

Yes, there are lots of benefits from nursing.  But if it is not working, no need to sweat it. It works for some and does not work for others.  No need to sweat it a say!  You can only do your best for your baby.

Well said!

Hmmm...where are the voices of those Nairalander women who say...

...they will never leave their husbands, no matter what because God hates divorce?
...they will only leave their husbands, due to infidelity?

Where are the voices of those Nairalanders who say things like this to a woman who dares divorce her brutish husband..."Some ladies are naturally stubborn. African ladies are different from Western ladies. They deserve it at times", "What guarantee does a divorced woman have that the next man she marries won't be worse?", "Who does she think is going to marry her at her age?", "Good luck finding a new husband!" "Selfish woman! No thought of her children!", ...whenever a thread or story pops up like this?

...and the silence is almost deadening

The money spent at that wedding is linked to Alameyesiegha. Yes. The same Alams. grin

He kicked his son out for not paying rent on his property in VI and the said son was the MD of the company. How will that kind of man pay for kenny latimore to come perform? grin

And what is your point?

Any lady who doesnot consent to typical naija BS must be single hehehe

The same ladygogo who opened a thread on low budget & classy weddings and posted her wedding pictures?

Please note that NOT ALL Nigerian women (married & single) will subscribe or consent to the usual BS. NOT ALL Nigerian husbands are the same and some people actually took their time to marry the excellent ones and not the shaft we have around.

If you are not depressed, running from one church to another or looking sad, wearing red pant & pant about, you are not a married woman in Nigerian terms. If you do not give senseless advices on how to 'keep' cheats and abusers, you are single and 'jealous' of the 'married' ones.

I keep saying it, there is a man for every woman. Find yours and let others be.

What is really your point? That women shouldn't get married because you are not married? Or that there are no happy marriages? Some people eh. Single girls be beefing the married women.

Family / Re: I know My Husband Is Cheating On Me by ladygogo: 1:20am On Nov 18, 2014
I can' t with these cheating threads. *smh*.

I've never seen a bunch of low-self esteemed women like Nigerian women.

Why are we so obsessed with marriage in that country sef?

Our fixation on marriage is even well known amongst women from other African countries. You hear them chatting about our 'get married or die trying syndrome'.

Its really nauseating.

Mature nlanders come to my aid. I n my hubby have a 2months + old baby. Our baby's baptism will be by month end.
My hubby has always wanted to celebrate it. But av bin kicking against it cos of our financial situation.
My hubby has got so much loan to repay dat wen he pays every month end from his salary, he has to go take a fresh loan for life to continue. It has been like this for some tym now.
Now my hubby wants us to postpone our baby's baptism all becos he wants to throw a party after it. Av told him i wont keep my baby at home for 4months because party. Cos we can jus do the baptism n come bak home.
The annoying thing is that in dat next month, he's going to take a loan to do the party. Our rent will also be due by then. He says all his friends and colleagues are expecting him n are always reminding him about throwing the party.
I told him it doesnt matter cos those people will leave us to "drink garri" wen the party is over.
My husband is a people pleaser.
Pls how can i convince him not to throw this unnecesary party. Cos i cant stay at home again for another 1 month

I think parties are highly unnecessary and makes less sense when you cant comfortably afford it just like Phema stated.

My dear, you can further convince him by highlighting the pros and cons of throwing a party. And who doesn't know the cons far outweigh the pros.

You can make your hubby realize he can put that money in a RESP(Registered Education Savings Plan) for your new born rather than spending it on some frivolous party. Now, thats good borrowing.
Does he know how much tuition fees are especially in a place like Nigeria where you have to pay through your nose for primary and secondary education?

Please sit him down and let him ponder on the future of that baby.

I do not plan to celebrate any of my kids' dedication (when I do have them), neither do I plan to do naming ceremony. Hubby thinks it's wierd, but has settled for the idea.
I love my life quiet and simple. Or, just maybe I'm not rich undecided

And to think your hubby wants to take a loan for that. . . To please who exactly? Will this same people bail him out of the back-to-back loans he has to clear? Will they feed, cloth or house his family when the chips are down? Shey, its just to come and eat, dance and leave? By the time they get home, they would have forgotten the taste of the rice and chicken you gave them. And your hard earned borrowed money has gone down the drain. Na you go still deal with the clean-up and exhaustion wey go follow.

I donot have any problems with people that do all that though, as long as they can conveniently afford it. But to borrow for that?!? Ontop of already pending loans?? Its just amazing what people see as priority. To each, his own sha. . .

This. I dont know why our people like putting themselves through unnecessary stress. I dont understand.

Fashion / How To Make Your Relaxed Hair Grow Longer And Fuller. by ladygogo: 8:52pm On Nov 11, 2014
First of all, you can't be lazy if you want one of those luscious tresses you see on blogs and instagram.
You have to put in the work!

Yes! Our hair grows! The fact that you have to make a trip to the salon every month to get your hair relaxed is enough evidence that our hair grows.

I started my hair journey in January 2013 and I can see a big difference already.

TIPS

-Moisture- The key to making your hair thrive is moisturizing with water. Water is your hair's best friend. grin Try as much as possible to buy products that have water as its first ingredient. e.g Aqua. or better still spray your hair with water everyday regardless of whether you have a weave or braids installed.

-Relaxing your hair- You have to be willing to go on a stretch every 12 weeks or 3mths. i.e applying relaxer to your hair every 12wks.

The key is to applying relaxer to the new growth. Never ever apply relaxer to the ends of your hair because that part of your hair is the weakest. You also have to make sure the ends of your hair is protected with vaseline and castor oil. These products act as a barrier when washing off the relaxer from your hair.

You also have to learn to relax your own hair because those salons dont give a rats azz about the health of your hair. They are all about the money.

Texlaxing-Texlaxing your hair is like having the best of both worlds. Your hair is fuller while still having the relaxed feel to it. You texlax by not leaving the relaxer in your hair for the recommended time written on the product package.

Protein treatment- This helps strengthen your hair and helps prevent further breakage.

Conditioner-Either leave-in or regular conditioner. These products will be your best buddies during those long weeks of stretching.

You will need it to co-wash (i.e shampooing your hair with a conditioner rather than a shampoo) and soften your new growth.

Trimming- Those scraggly ends need to be trimmed off when you get your hair straightened or relaxed.

LOC or LCO method- This means Liquid, oil and cream and vice versa. The liquid moisturizes, and the oil and cream acts a sealant.

Styling- Your hair has to be protected from the harsh weather. Those ends have to be protected. You can protective-style with a loose bun, updos, full lace wigs, braids etc. or

Low manipulation- You dont have to 'make' your hair every month. Use a wide-tooth comb and only comb when your hair is wet or with conditioner in it. Finger-combing should be your go to method and your hair will love you for it.

Edges- I see a lot of jacked up edges on a lot of Naija women and i cant help but gawk. shocked Seriously? And they still go and slap on those damn weaves? grin. Anyway, to rescue your edges, you will have to stop relaxing your edges, applying castor oil or peppermint oil as stimulant and putting less pressure on them when manipulating your hair.

Have a wash day- A designated day for washing your hair.

Recommended products

Liquid-Water, water and water. grin

Oils-natural oils like olive oil, coconut oil, grapeseed oil, avocado oil, castor oil and shea butter.

Cream- Moisturizing cream or butters with water in it. Most people use the cantu shea butter, shea radiance and emily millionaire etc

My current regimen

I spray my hair with my home made spritzer everyday. It's is a mix of water, conditioner and all sorts of oils.

Wash day- Friday, Sat or Sun.

Pre-poo- Applying hot oils to your hair before shampooing or cowashing.

I cowash with my Tresemme naturals or any Tresemme conditioner i can lay my hands on.

I apply coconut oil or grapeseed oil and then seal with a moisturizing cream, tie a scarf and go to bed.

**I do a protein treatment when i feel my hair needs one. I either do a light protein treatment using mayonnaise and eggs, Queen helens cholesterol or hard protein treatment using aphogee protein treatment.

**I also deep condition whenever i feel my hair needs it with my tresemme rejuvenating mud masque.

The key is to simplifying your hair regimen so you dont easily become exhausted on your journey and try not to be a product junkie. grin

Happy hair journey. grin
