^^^ it has been deleted, did you not see the nudie pics he posted, anyways that aside

back to the topic. It is a known but silent and usually not-too-concerned-about fact that Religion possibly has 1 source.

It is a natural progression of homo-sapient evolution to recycle methods and practices that worked for earlier generations and improve upon it by introducing newer elements that allow it to remain consistent with modernity. a few prominent religions however are too rigid and remain in the backwaters of Centuries ago. refusing to move along with the times you know which ones grin

PFN Slams Christian Varsities Over Crazy Fees

Posted By On January 19, 2011 @ 1:49 pm In Metro,News

The Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria, PFN, Lagos State Chapter has criticized owners of Christian private Universities for charging crazy fees, saying they are not showing good example to the world.

Rev. Femi Asiwaju, Vice Chairman, Lagos State PFN lamented that the churches which owned the universities ostensibly shut out the children of poor people in the church whose money owners of the churches used in building the universities and then charged unaffordable school fees.

He was speaking at the annual get together of the All Christian Leaders/Ministers Forum, ACLMF, in Lagos State, South West Nigeria, saying that many churches now wanted to set up universities because of the immediate profit it would yield rather than the education they wanted to offer.

According to him, these days, churches set up universities and the tuition fees they charge can’t be afforded by the children of the poor while only the rich could afford to send their children to those schools.

“It was not like this when the missionaries first brought education to us. Why are churches no longer setting up secondary schools? They prefer to set up universities because of the money.

“If a government in Osun State sets up a university and raised the fees and a church sets up a university and does the same,” the priority is lost, adding that churches had failed in this regard.

According to him, these churches need to trim down the exorbitant fees they charge in their universities, saying that “what example are we laying for the world? The money used in establishing the universities came from the church.

“The fees should be subsidized. In any of these churches, no poor people can send their children to these schools. If the missionaries had set up these schools, they will be cheap. The poor deserves to go to the best schools because they have brains too.”

The following Christian universities in the country charge these fees per session: Covenant University, N380,000 -N450,000; Redeemer University, N330,000 -N390,000; Crawford University N420,000; Bowen University N450,000; Babcock University, N612,000-N757,800 for resident students; and Ajayi Crowder University, N363,000 – N385,000.

However, Asiwaju has called on Lagosians to turn out enmasse and register in the ongoing voter registration exercise, saying the hiccup currently being experienced would soon fade away.

“On Monday, when I got to the centre to register, the battery of the DDC machine was flat. We need to be patient. Those operating the machines are new and the exercise will get better by the day,” he said.

Asiwaju also called on Lagosians to vote for Governor Babatunde Fashola in the forthcoming election, saying that he had really performed beyond expectation, adding that “Fashola is the man; he has done so much; look at Oshodi, the transformation there is great. That is the type of people we are looking for.

“While some governors are weeping and crying for lack of security in their states, this man has been able to liaise with the police to provide security. I did not vote for him the first time but this time around, I will vote for him.

“What we are having in Lagos State is a man that says, “let us do it right.’ Such a governor will never be poor but those who are stealing will only bring curse upon their families. What is being done in Lagos State can be replicated in other states,” he stated.

Special Adviser to the Governor on Christian Religious Matters, Rev. Sam Ogedengbe formally launched a campaign calendar on behalf of the ACLMF for Fashola’s second term ambition, calling on Lagosians to vote for him.

According to him, the launch of the calendar was to show appreciation to the governor for what he had done in repositioning and moving the state to greater heights, adding that he had performed beyond expectation.

He stated that he had been educating members of his church to go out and register in the ongoing voter registration exercise so that they could vote in the forthcoming general elections.

There is no Justice in Nigeria except for Politicians who have lost elections and need the court to get them back in reckoning.

Christianity Etc › Re: Help Me Calculate My Tithe by lagerwhenindoubt(m): 4:27pm On Jan 18, 2011
@OP

Tithing is part of the OT Law and has Scriptural basis from Leviticus 27:30 "'A tithe of everything from the land, whether grain from the soil or fruit from the trees, belongs to the LORD; it is holy to the LORD." and Malachi 3:9 says, "You are under a curse; the whole nation of you, because you are robbing me." such were the tensed-up days of Scriptural REPO Men  grin

However Tithers Jesus Christ did not go crawl up Shiit creek and die for you just so you will still be bound by LAW for Galatians 3:13 says "Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law by becoming a curse for us, for it is written: Cursed is everyone who is hung on a tree."

OT Law covered aspects of the Jews life, their personal and national relationship with God as well as their relationship as an individual to civil authority. The civil law is still in affect today. But the law concerning a True Christian's relationship with God underwent a change in Hebrew 7:12 which says "For when there is a change of the priesthood, there must also be a change of the law."  If you take a look at civil laws today, you can clearly see that they have their roots in the OT Law.

The law of Jesus Christ (Galatians 6:2 which says Carry each other's burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ) has all the components of the moral law of the Old Testament but none of the ceremonial law (Tithing, circumcision, ceremonial washing, Saturday worship, etc.). I am not discounting other ceremonial practices such as communion, water baptism but these are not requirements to maintain a proper relationship. These are requirements to maintain a proper perspective of what Christ has done. While in the old law circumcision or tithing were mandatory or else ,  (you know the stories) by trying to or actually fulfilling OT law today, you have put your salvation in jeopardy. as it clearly states in Galatians 5:1-4
1: It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery.
2: Mark my words! I, Paul, tell you that if you let yourselves be circumcised, Christ will be of no value to you at all.
3: Again I declare to every man who lets himself be circumcised that he is obligated to obey the whole law.
4: You who are trying to be justified by law have been alienated from Christ; you have fallen away from grace.

I am no theologian or priest or pastor, just a voracious consumer of knowledge seeking Wisdom and Understanding. It is simple enough to understand that Tithing is just for show if you wish to be old fashioned and follow OT Law by doing so you have basically insulted the Death and Resurrection of Christ submitting yourself to LAW and damning yourself from God's Grace. I pray your pastor never leads you to damnation in Jesus Name. AMEN

@poster
If you stick to the biblical definition of tithes as explained in deut 14 you won't be giving yourself headache of how to determine tithes based on man made definitions. Biblically speaking you have NO business tithing from your income or profit.

@op
if u look around u, u will some helpless individuals, motherless babies, beggars. Pls go and help these people with your profit, support also the genuine word of God. Give to others what u decide within u. Dont go about looking for how to tithe, give as your heart directs.
That clears up the issue completely smiley

It is a style that works. It strikes conviction and fear into you and woe-betide you if you don't get it into your Spirit grin
Christianity Etc › Re: An Assignment For every Nairalander by lagerwhenindoubt(m): 9:06am On Jan 18, 2011
I think this is pretty straight-forward. Live the exemplary lifestyle that Jesus Christ lived. If we say Jesus is the essence of Christianity, then we must strive to Live the life he lived
1: Righteousness instead of Righteous Hypocrisy (Righteousness of the Pharisees & Sadducees)
2: Spiritual Growth over Material Acquisition
3: Love/Compassion for Non-believers rather than Social Isolation because it is said do not be unequally yoked with sinners
4: Social Correction instead of apathy for a society gone bad. this is where most Christians are guilty. (watching sexually suggestive music videos, wearing sexually suggestive clothes and love for money, wealth etc)

In summary you must Live the Faith (Word+Action) rather than Claim the Faith (Religion within your personal inclinations only)

Christianity Etc › Re: Pastor Chris Denounces The Divinity Of Jesus Christ by lagerwhenindoubt(m): 8:40pm On Jan 14, 2011
Well. . . Oyaks may be expounding an ancient position that Godhood is not restricted to God alone contrary to what Paul states in Isaiah 43:10
"Before me there was no God formed, neither shall there be after me. I, even I am the Lord; and besides me there is no savior"
And Jesus proclaims man's potential for greatness when he said
I tell you the solemn truth, the person who believes in me will perform the miraculous deeds that I am doing, and will perform greater deeds than these, because I am going to the Father.
After all we are created in his image and his very essence breath life into our bodies at creation. To think Lucifer had ambitions of Godhood and was certain he could achieve it only to be rudely cut-down for his rebellion shows there is some truth in the man-god theory. we are creatures of Faith and Faith is the power of the cosmos.
