Interesting how times have changed. When the going was good, with little money from Cocoa, palm oil and groundnuts, Nigerians walk around as if they were African gods. Most Africans think they were arrogant, educated and rich. Until foreign income turned Nigerians poor; into 419, drug kingpins and ritualists. From grace to grass, they now call Ethiopians racists. What a funny world, eh? |
When money was money, a guy said if anyone accuse him of stealing thousands or millions today, swear by his mother that it is not him. But if it was a million, now a billion, please save my and your mother and do not swear on their head o. |
This one guy that was a village head about 100 years ago, that is now promoted to Major, keeps coming up. How many Igbo village heads, councilors, ministers, President and billionaires have been so celebrated in the Midwest, West and North? Tolerance is based on numbers, not on a token. Igbo are better loved in Nigeria than anywhere else but the noise makers and chest beaters are eroding the hard work and trust the Igbo fathers built outside Igbo land. |
He was the most detribalized Nigerian when he was in power. He sacrificed his Yoruba-ness for power. |
True, it happens to all of us. But it is not on food alone. We wish greedily for what we lack because we feel insecure. Our behavior towards food, a basic need may be manifested in other area. The poor also waste food and money when they have it. The opposite behavior is hoarding for fear of not having enough for tomorrow. Parents have that fear because they worked hard to acquire what they have while their children waste out of false sense of security. These incongruous behaviors may be demonstrated when the poor eat more than they should for fear that there may be none tomorrow. The wealthy have no such fear and can wait or even diet to live longer. Humans are complicated beings. neonly: |
Money to buy power and power to acquire money in the hands of man can ruin any man. https://www-modernghana-com.cdn.ampproject.org/v/s/www.modernghana.com/amp/news/1125332/pursuit-of-power-for-money-or-money-for-power-ruin.html?amp_gsa=1&_js_v=a6&usqp=mq331AQKKAFQArABIIACAw%3D%3D#amp_tf=From%20%251%24s&aoh=16395758623386&referrer=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.google.com&share=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.modernghana.com%2Fnews%2F1125332%2Fpursuit-of-power-for-money-or-money-for-power-ruin.html |
Money was used to compensate freelance drummers and invited drummers that made their living by the generosity of celebrants and guests. Abuse started when it was extended to celebrants especially ladies. To what it is today. omakay: |
What is surprising is that they still get away with this sense of entitlement year after year. We all allow them, complain and give up. With Allah dey! |
You cannot cure a sickness or problem without admitting there is any. This is not the first time Buhari cabinet admit there are problems. But they cannot solve these problems because they are self inflicted. It is coming home to bite them. If Buhari is serious, he must appoint people more competent than members of his cabinet. Lopsided appointments from the the North regardless of competence is killing Nigeria. |
Keep joking off others misery when you know this is happening all over the country. Bandits are now the political class. |
I think you are trying to be clever by half to turn this into Yoruba cooperation with the North. The only point here is what is already known about Tinubu. He would drive a hot shaft through his mother's ass to get what be wants. You forgot to mention that Igbo also voted along Tinubu. Igbo cooperated with the Sokoto born to make him the Speaker. For the 1st time since after the war,an Igbo man became IGP,COAS plus other top posts like minister for finance. You conveniently forgot that it was Obasanjo, a Yoruba that brought you out of the doghouse after the War and gave you positions. Actually at the expense of Yoruba. This was why Igbo labelled him "the most detribalized Nigerian". By the way, the same Obasanjo you call all kinds of names today. Yoruba can never please an Igbo, even if you give them ORE! CaptainAyub: |
In the first place, you do not have to be born in Lagos to be an Ekosian or a Lagosian. Many are born outside of Lagos that belong. It is your lineage before 1900 that makes you a Lagosian. Lagos State within Lagos is definitely attractive to indigenes but, but, but Lagosians will be overwhelmed by outsiders. There are more of them in Lagos than Lagosians. The only safety net is to leave Lagos State the way it is. Otherwise, Lagosians will be rule by outsiders. Tinubu pain is a temporary, his whole lineage from Osun will be deported back home. Much easier to do than other outsiders. |
Nigerians are bad when it comes to sexual morality. But Shagari did the same in Akwam Ibom or so, some years back. Remember now, Alafin of Oyo said some of those girls out of those he sent to universities opt to stay and marry him. Please I am not defending Nigerians o! KosiGee: |
Fair is fair A mother should be able to see her children if she wants to. As long as she does not want to harm them. It is difficult to keep children away from their father, not to even imagine the mother being denied access. Cold! |
Hope, heaven and hell sellers elevate themselves unto special lass. |
Some young attractive ladies are natural viagra. Some you have to use viagra. Overused ones are dead horse. If you know you know. |
The problem in Nigeria is paying for estimates or paying without service. At the end of the day, the money is not reinvested for better service. It is either stolen or wasted. The fact remains though that Nigerians hate paying for services and maintenance. This is the justification for prepaid services. You do not pay for your phone service, you lose service. Compare private Estates to Government Estates. |
You are right, naive folks love tokenism. The politicians use it for votes and praises. They get food infrastructure for one day and vote their rights away for four or eight years. BKayy: |
It is very hard even for Yoruba that grew up with Igbo, how our relationships degenerate to this level. It is hard to get used to. |
I would have expected the Northern states to have the highest unemployment rate just as the poverty rate. High migration from the South East should have decreased unemployment but could also be the reason for migration. Statistics can be funny |
Burantashi, viagra etc don finish abi e nor fit afford them. Na which one Obasanjo and Alafin dey use? Any pretty girl young enough is a natural Viagra for a healthy old man. Something is wrong somewhere, there is more to this. |
There is room for everyone on Nairaland forum. The Culture section is not the right place for this lady to propagate her personal interest or desires. |
I can imagine the arrogance of being a professional student in Nigeria if you have the money. If you are married with a kid, your wife would drive you out to go and look for real job to feed your family. Being a professional student abroad insulate you from harsher outside environment. Usually, you get teaching assistantships to take care of you but hardly enough for a family. Nigerian students usually get full scholarship to take care of their families especially if you are from the North. At home or abroad, a professional student enjoys the respect of Africans. But what good is any degree that cannot be productive to benefit and move your community forward? Sometimes, it is not an incentive towards BURU until they starve. |
Is this wishful thinking or what? Nigeria's vigorous Press have survived worse environment moving from house to house to print in those days. We have digital press today. Much harder. |
So you dey abuse sombadi, I thought you are fun LiberatedGirl: |
Good question. I have always wondered why cities around oceans become desert. Only to find out desalination to remove brime, salt and other impurities can be very difficult and expensive. Reverse Osmosis and distillation can purify the water but dumping the salt back into the sea can kill the fishes and other animals that depend and live in the ocean. |
Tinubu would say anything to become President. Be careful of promises like that of Trump. America will not recover for years to come. Nigeria is still suffering from Buhari and Jonathan double whammies. |
Khia, Do you have anything to contribute Apart from negative stereotypes exchanges between Blacks and Blacks? I have met better Blacks from everywhere. |
BLACK on BLACK again! When are you guys going to realize there are good and bad people everywhere. In the case of Blacks, we have been so repressed for so long in the barrel, we pull one another down. blueAgent:Apart from China and Russia that exploited their local serfs before Revolution, all the countries you mentioned above became rich on African slave labor. Even Switzerland until recently still live on African loots as safe heaven. Did you miss the recent confession of a French President that without African loot, the Country would collapse. Find out what they did to Haiti after they were forced to give Independence. No different to the history of Britain and Gold Coast on Gold Standard. You guys need to educate yourselves, this is only NAIRALAND. |
I'm glad you realize that god of camera is watching you |
