Recognition is one thing, chest beating is another. We have many of them in that industry including Fela and Orlando Martins.

Papa Olatunji's wife is still around I think. She was honored by Nigerian Organization a couple of years ago.

True, Nigeria did a lot. But please never forget Nkrumah in that area. It is almost insincere not to mention Osagyefo Nkrumah and his contributions to all African countries.

Without Nigeria no freedom for Zimbabwe & South Africa, no ZANU-PF, no ANC without Nigeria’s support & finances, thanks mostly to the Nigerian Military Governments in power, when Mandela was released from prison, the first country he visited was Nigeria. Stayed in Sandton, Joburg some years ago on holiday, was amazed the way older South Africans respect Nigeria as a Country, really I was truly surprised.

Those Africans that studied abroad without scholarships, loans, laundered money from parents and relatives AND still come home and contribute must be celebrated not the ones that hid abroad after deserting Nigeria.

What would Nigeria Medical, Legal and other areas be without them until the 80s. Since then Nigeria has been going down. Celebrate your heroes at home to encourage new generation not those copy copy African Europeans we used to call Adaka and Odaka.
CelebritiesRe: Tyler Perry Becomes A Billionaire - Forbes by laiperi: 2:22pm On Sep 02, 2020
The only way to appreciate success in African Americans is to understand the odds against them which some of us blame them for. Blaming the victims.

They lack the confidence most Africans had in those days that helped them succeed in Europe and America. Sometimes, it is even surprising that they made it through high school.

This guy is exceptional from the way he makes and spends his money. I can never see him ending up poor like some in sports and entertainment.

Respect. We need more Africans in Africa like him. We have many in Nigeria but they are ridiculed and never celebrated because they are low-key and never ostentatious.
PoliticsRe: Bulama Bukarti Makes Senior Associate At US Thinktank (Photo) by laiperi: 1:57pm On Sep 02, 2020
This proves what we have always known. Millions of Nigerians leave this country every years and millions make it while others fall by the wayside.

What is new is that out of these millions that make it, individuals are pick one by one for celebration in Nigeria daily. There is no part of this country that has not produce individuals that made it overseas.

Let their families that gain from them celebrate them. They have not benefited you, the masses or Africa. And the worst country that has been made the Poverty Capital of the World is Nigeria.

Boasting others achievement may anesthetize you like a drug, it has nothing to do with you or village progress.

Indeed, no matter what they achieved, they are nobody abroad. If anything, they are gouded daily to go back home and save Africa. They are direpected, ignored and envied for their hand work because they come from the ZOO!
PoliticsRe: Why Are Nigerians So Illiterate by laiperi: 1:28pm On Sep 02, 2020
It has nothing to do with reading, writing or education. It is what you do with it.

Literacy comes in different languages and culture but you have to use it to explore, discover and invent the ability to live better.

But if your literacy, culture, morality and religion is taken from you and surreptitiously replaced with their own, you worship them from one generation to the next. Courtesy of English politicians like Lord Thomas McCauley 1835.

Who else prefer imported used and discarded goods, materials and tastes to their local ones almost exclusively ridiculing their own except in the hinterland.

Those who claimed Nigeria never made enough money per capita forget that it is not how much you have but how you use it as others emulate your prodigal ways.

Literacy make you reflect, think and develop not just to cram from others.

Life is too cheap in most African countries, unfortunately we do not insist and protest the taking of lives unless it is by opponents.

Igbo lives and any other even in the hands of their own is sacred.

This is the type of people Africa should be proud of. He reminds me of a group of girls from MIT and Harvard that got together to render summer training for youths in Abuja some years ago.

I wonder where they are now.

This guy is a committed African, not just Nigerian or Igbo. You cannot compare him to the other losers that will never be respected overseas no matter what they achieved.

PoliticsWho Was Lord Thomas Mccauley by laiperi(op): 8:36pm On Sep 01, 2020
Lord Thomas McCauley was one of the English Colonial masters that recognized the superiority of African and Asian cultures, morals and native traditional education.

He advocated the destruction of these cultures and replace them with English culture, language and education before they could be conquered and ruled.

All they had to do was impact it on their leaders that would enforce them on their population.

The youths and their parents have proven him right in Africa while India has made tremendous progress in rejecting English culture, language and education.

You guys are so blinded, you cannot see the irony in your celebration of a legal assistant that was made a Provincial minister that has been elevated to Canada minister even after been corrected severally.

If you are a Canadian black or white lawyer, would you be glad to see an African legal assistant that has only been in your country for a few years, appointed?

You shout merit merit merit at home but once you get what you want by any means, merit can go to hell.

Find out the record of Conservative on immigration. This guy would not even get into Canada.

Let me burst your bubble small small.

The only job this man can get in Canada with his three years legal training is that of legal assistant.

Now politics in Canada demands that he appeals to a political philosophy, in this case as conservative. This was how he got votes to be elected.

No Canadian trained lawyer can get his position without 8 years training to become a lawyer. So he should be the last person to talk about merit.

Now, in Nigeria political election demands conversing and begging for votes just like Madu did. Not by zoning, bullying and blackmail.

We went through Death Penalty already for armed robbers and kidnappers.

Politicians as Pen Robbers are worse than armed robbers. So Nigerians are asked to go China way. Hang looters.

But wait, did armed robbery decrease? Indeed, Buhari the Champion with Idiagbon that instituted Operation WAI has joined looters and money launderer so that his family can enjoy privileges abroad

How for do?

Institute Life Imprisonment and parade them working in chains at public projects. When you see your friends, brothers, sisters, fathers and others daily in prisoner uniforms, it will bring shame and recalibrate our moral fiber from from individual families.
PoliticsCan Anyone Save Nigeria Or Just Save Your Region by laiperi(op):
If we do not know where we are going, we know where we are coming from.

Two threads have shaken my belief that Nigerians can be saved together as a people. The only person that could have done that is Buhari but forget Buhari/Idiagbon. Those days are gone

This Buhari is old, sick and tired. The Buhari we knew does not exist anymore. This one is being ruled by others against everything he stood for. We placed all hope on Jonathan across the Country from North to South, he was a failure, used and dumped. The same thing with Buhari being used today Against the Buhari we knew.

I gave up hope on Nigerians because most of us do not like ourselves but I still sincerely believe Youba have a chance, that Igbo have a chance, Hausa have a chance but I do not know about the Minorities and which way they will go.

We must retreat to our Regional strengths.
The two threads that made me give up on Nigerians are

1. A lady in a university abroad who claimed she was homeless and hungry which could never happened in Lagos. She was condemned, vilified but for a few that understood her points. Most of those have never stepped out of the country. A few others abroad lie about their experiences to condemn Nigeria as usual.

Any place to them, is better than the shiithole country but have moved out of their shiiitholes towns and villages they come from.

The reason this is dangerous as pointed out is buying and sucking into Foreign English mentality of politicians like Lord McCauley thinking as far back as 1835 that the only way you can conquer Asia and Africa is to make them believe that their higher moral values were inferior to English culture. A predatory culture.

Please go back and read these two threads and you will be convinced that Nigerians have lost it and actually believe Lord McCauley that Foreign culture that dictated their Economic survival is the SALVATION. Their principles of Slavery As A Necessary Evil to raise their Economic Status.

It dangerous for all Nigerians together because we are now known as money mongers desperate for foreign currencies by any means. This is infectious, unless we return to our tents, the whole country will be taken down.

I stumble into this thread while trying to find out who Cousin9999 is. From what I can tell, I will not be surprised if he is a travel agent that encourage or sell gullible Nigerians overseas.

I understand the pain of this OP. Sometimes you feel like giving up on Nigeria but it is people like Op that you want to counsel because many times counseling is more important than money.

There are good students in the most prestigious universities in USA that are homeless and go without food.

Indeed, these universities know that. In some cases they provide shelter or give them "free dorm". There was another story of another student sharing the room she was given with her homeless sister and mother.

Schools usually have food for events and they make sure there are surplus. As soon as the events are over, the food are placed in open locations where hungry students can see them.

Op there are people in Nigeria that know what you are going through. Please do not listen to these organ donors. They will never listen until they find themselves in Libya stopover, on their way to USA.

It is hard to believe that until these stubborn goats are led astray by cousin 9999 and his like, they will never listen.

Please stay strong as some kind hearted people here advised you and ignore those goats running through the desert to get to where you are.

Cousin 9999, you should be ashamed of yourself. The advice you give up there is what Nigerians go to America for?

Let me keep my cool but all the people you lead astray eh, their heads will haunt you.

I do not want to dignify some of the ridiculous comments that got me laughing.

I just have to mention a few people some of these comments addressed.

El Must is White, kapish? Any white with his heavy accent, no matter where he comes from would ask a Black in America before Columbus where he comes from.

Wole Soyinka and Dangote: some of you are so dumb you cannot and will never understand. You are blinded by propaganda that neither you or your parents work for but insist on enjoying. You will and must pay the price.

Slaves, a necessary evil built Europe and America riches and new slave laborers are now flying in 707 or desert and seas to get there.

Let me add Maduka to Soyinka and Dangote. In the first place, where are they now? Who told you they are not subjected to insults right from the Airports to their homes abroad? Why are some of you walking around with your heads? I guess travellers never come home and tell you about their ordeals in Promised lands. Even when they do?

Oh, all these have to do with my lack of financial status, banned from overseas or misery love company?

By the way, most of you are worse than your leaders. They came from your individual families. They begged you to stone them, have you or you are waiting for Wole Soyinka to lead?

Don't forget to wake up and take Gani Fawehinni along.

Pity.

Rubber bullets or teaser is more legitimate as a defense.

TravelRe: No Matter What You Achieve Abroad You Are Nobody by laiperi(op): 7:57pm On Aug 23, 2020
May God bless you for this comment. Only a fool would deny that we do not have a problem.

Look at Victoria Island in Lagos, it was those returning that got allocation there. There are many allocation like that all over Nigeria. Someone was talking about Abariba the other day. Jos used to be a Paradise too.

However, they were bedroom communities. Some people know that but still want to come home. So they started creating projects to work and live on.

Guess what? Their own families duped them.

Guess what Nigerians do with the money. The same thing they do with laundered money. All the money sent home by these hard working Nigerians looking for their way back home are exchanged for Naira by some of their relatives only to be exchanged by big boys back into Euro and Dollars, then laundered out again.

Why, why? When people think their only Salvation is a ticket outside and everything not African is better, will continue to go in a vicious circle.

Those abroad investing their hard earned money to come back home but sonabasiwere looting it out. No matter what you say, they want out and call their villages all kinds of names.

If those at the top of their professions are dying to come home, how bad can Nigeria be?

It is not Nigeria, it is people from our individual families. If you get awoof money from overseas or loot in Nigeria, why not invest at home?

What is it about overseas where they hate your guts. Where they tell talented Africans superior in intellect that The Only Good Niggatt Is A Dead Niggatt!

dasparrow:
I can't argue with you because you are right 100%. To add to what you already wrote, an increasing number of Black Americans are moving to some African countries and Africans in the diaspora who are from other African countries are moving back too and investing in their respective homelands.

I know some Nigerians overseas especially the ones who already have their papers who want to relocate back to Africa too but the situation of things in Nigeria is discouraging them from doing so.

People need a country that is safe and peaceful. People need a country where basic amenities such as light and water are readily available and the business environment is conducive.

I sometimes watch videos on YouTube of Black folks from the diaspora moving to Ghana, Gambia, Tanzania, Kenya, etc. I don't see many people seeking to move to Nigeria. Some Nigerians are even seeking information on how to retire in other African nations because of the sorry state of affairs Nigeria is in right now.

Back in the day, our parents generation travelled out of the country to go and study overseas and when they were done, no one begged or coerced them into coming back home. But there were jobs then. My parents got jobs as soon as they finished with their NYSC after returning from Western Europe where they had gone to study. My parents got housing provided to them by the Nigerian government once they started working. My parents are no politicians. They were ordinary folks. That was the norm then.

Today in Nigeria, there are few decent paying jobs and you have to have connections to have access to them. Power supply has gotten worse. Tribalism and divisiveness amongst Nigerians have gotten worse. Killings have gotten worse. Insecurity in the country is nothing to write home about. Cost of living continues to climb astronomically. So these are some of the reasons why Nigerians leave the country or are reluctant to come back.

A Black American lady was sharing with a group of us online that she is married to a Nigerian man and that she would like to leave America and move back to Africa but her husband is reluctant even though he is not exactly happy in the States either due to all the wahala going on there. Perhaps, if the husband were from a more peaceful country like Tanzania, Mozambique, Ghana etc, he won't think twice about moving back home. However, when the husband remembers all the wahala he ran away from, to go back to Nigeria becomes a frightening reality.

Even Nigerians back home will question why he came back like I was questioned by many Nigerians about why I chose to come back to Nigeria including my boss in the office. Of course I have since relocated back overseas. Wetin man go do?
