True and I know a friend whose mum was denied even after she and her family had landed for a couple of months. There is no hard and fast rule.

One thing about visa application is that there is no hard and fast rule. I applied for my mum before I landed and her application was approved.

Hi all,
Please i intend to apply for a visit visa for my mum. She intends to come at the end of december and i will be landing as PR at the end of November. Would you advise that she applies now or after i land.
My concerns are processing time and to avoid misrepresentation.
If she chooses the option of visiting family or friends i can't provide her an IV letter yet, so it will have to be tourism.
But she has to fill a family information form and will definitely include my name.

Complicated issue here. The thing is you are not yet a pr holder until you have landed. I would say land and settle before you invite your mum. Her chances are higher with that letter than other means. I have invited my mum and parents in law and everything was smooth.
See if you can land earlier, settle and then invite her or let her come a little bit later.

As you will assume, there are several insurance companies here and not all of them accept driving experience from outside Canada/US. I use Pafco insurance for my auto insurance as they accepted my drinking history from Nigeria and fairly priced.

Forget naija customs o. Avoid those ones. In case of next time it's actually 10k in the currency of the country you are entering except otherwise indicated.

Yea i agree with you about declaring as there is no harm in that but the fear i believe most ppl have is declaring it at naija customs,oh my God i had a terrible experience once just because of declaring $10,000 but once u cross over there is pretty no big deal in declaring,so d custome guy only asked us how much we had on us and we said $9865 and dat was it...so i kind of believe dat d 10,000 in the usd is d standard but i might be wrong...

Remember there is difference between USD and CAD. IF you are bringing 9990 USD (about 13,000 CAD), that will exceed the limit and trust me, the customs guys will convert it if you're selected for a check. Just FYI. I would say declare if you are not sure. Nobody will hurt you for declaring.

BANKS-so hubby and i decided not to use same bank so we can have shared experiences,d first bank we went to was TD bank,accounts were opened immediately,got his debit card then his credit card came in 3 days-the credit card is extremely important here,u need it to start building credit history,before u can get a house they ask for dat,to even get a phone line in rogers and bell they asked for credit history,so d earlier u get d card to start building credit history the better and TD has new immigrant package.
I walked into BMO did not like their service so i left,then tried scotia bank,process was fast too in but credit card took almost 3 weeks.So i personall wld liken TD bank to our GTB/Zenith,Scotia bank-Access bank(d service is there but d process can be one kind like dat).
On bringing cash,its best your first landing you hold your money,if u are worried about declaring $10,000 u can hold [b]$9990 [/b]in dat case u did not lie and you dont have to declare.

Dont worry, you will be fine. There is heater everywhere.

To be honest I don't know if they will accept an expired license. The letter shows your driving history and is mutually exclusive of your license. You can have a valid license without the letter but the letter will be useless without a license.

However does the frsc letter count even with an expired original license? Can't get mine renewed in the short time before I land.
Again, I understand one can also get the letter from the embassy in Ottawa.
Do I travel with the expired one and get the embassy letter?

I agree with the below. The initial information is not correct. That letter is gold, if you can get it, get it. It is a life saver for 2 reasons.

1. It shows your driving history hence after taking the written test, you will be given a G1 (learner's) license with its plenty restrictions. If you do not have the FRSC letter, you would have to wait for sometime before taking G2 and G road tests. But with the letter, you can take the G road test immediately.

2. Insurance: if you dont have that powerful FRSC letter, they will assume you have not driven before and charge you very high insurance. But with that letter, they assume you have been driving from the date written on that letter and calculate your insurance. Trust me this will reduce your premium significantly.

Finally, they accept FRSC from Nigeria and I have used it. As much as you can, please get it because it is a life saver.

Don't know if this has been addressed but this is not true. The FRSC letter is collected in Ontario.

If you are going to school, i suppose you will not be driving anytime. Relax, i expect BC to have good public transport. Your driver's licence can be sent to you whenever it is ready. Go and focus on your school and dont worry about DL yet. Some people even work for a long time without driving especially if their families are not here with them.

Chief, a well maintained 16 year old plane isn't bad. Many airlines lease well maintained planes that are even up to 20 years. so no issue. Rejoice with those that are making progress so that your own progress will come.
