Hello, hope you all are doing well.
Please I need your feedback.
Has anyone here schooled or is schooling at Edinburgh-Napier University for the course MSc Advanced Security & Digital Forensics? 1. Please how practical and in-depth are the courses?. 2. Are the infrastructures (computer lab, softwares, etc) convenient for the course 3. How is the university and living in Edinburgh (student jobs, accomodation, etc)
Really appreciate if anyone could share his/her experience. Thanks! |

hosey: It is even you that have been stigmatised for you to choose other race over your kind and saying all blacks are pretenders Hero worshipping white as if all of them are wise. Some of these white you glorify are incompetent and full of hypocrisy. You are suffering from inferiority complex and you need to change your bad stigma. For you to generalise that all black as bad that shows the kind of bad company you keep and where you stay isnt good enough. You do not follow intellectual blacks of your kind.
If you like work as a workaholic and be a source of spoonfeeder, those white men can never and ever see you as equal. They pretend and will only treat you well if you are invaluable. If you are not, you are been outcasted and left to be fired. They apply institutional racism and see you as aggressive when you claim for your right.
You better sit up and remember home and when you came from. Do not let anyone deceive you. When you want to reach the top and managerial level in your career, you will understand what I mean. You will always be down bottom in their eyes.
Also, you should not generalise and see black as evil because you have not mingle with good competent blacks of high class. You should always the individual competence, attitude and honesty over race. We black in the diaspora do not help each other.
The Chinese, Pakistanis, Indians and many more help each other. You will see them dominant in a company in which their head is of their race. Many shops are owned by them and gradually eradicating poverty in their country.
But we blacks can never help each other because you all see black as evil. Why wont there be continued racism when you dont see yourself as the best and the boss. Why do you think the white and english people phrased their language to make everything black evil and negative:
black things black sheep, black day, black(blackmail), disrepute (black mark), rejection (blackball), banishment (blacklist), impurity (not the driven snow), illicitness (black market), black (devil) and death. Why is everything white good: white day, white holiday, white (peace) white (purity), white (godliness) and many more. They are just saying, you blacks are shit indirectly.
Believe in yourself as see yourself as superior and in control. Make yourself important and dont become a lapdog to the white. THANK YOU A MILI ! Sorry to bring this back but I was just so baffled to see how people live their lives to please white people. You do not have to lose yourself in order to fit, that is why it is called multiculturalism. Yes, we have some bad attitudes, but so does every other race. Never lose yourself! |

STENON: Yes, No need to go a bigger city where you spend 40-120minutes inside bus before getting to work and you keep buying transport tickets.
smaller cities have many opportunities than most big cities.
People working in big cities always live in neighbouring small city due to cost of living and most employers in small city are always looking for people to recruit which is always a good way to start as a student. Okay, I see your point. I am not sure that will be the case for Aberdeen, but who knows... Maybe that works in england cause cities are quite packed close to each other. I'd advise the op to get in touch with someone who lives there |

Skymoore1004: You are right. Student jobs in Scotland are very limited except maybe Edinburgh because of its diversity and tourism. I think the lack of student jobs has to do with racism from Scots as well. They’re not as welcoming as Brits.
Only thing like you said, it’s the affordable living cost. If you are looking a lagos hustle, don’t bother with Aberdeen. I mean, I do live in scotland and I don't think racism is higher here than in england. Its just that apart fro Glasgow and Edinburgh, the other "cities" are really really small. |

No one here can really say if courses will shift to online in September. However, at the moment, UK universities are still planning on continuing classes normally for September 2020 intake. Lockdown is progressively being relaxed in some states of the UK. I think by end May the government will be clearer on what to expect post lockdown. If your admission can wait till end May then I suggest you do so adeniyy01: Good day ,

Someone should please advise me.. should i go ahead nd pay my tuition fee or i should still wait? I also got admission @ University of Regina Canada for Postgraduate. I want to consider UK to Canada bcus getting Visa to UK less stress thank of Canada.

dupylola: Good day house, please, I need advice. I came to the Uk Jan this year to study a 2 Years program. I am a married woman with kids so my husband and I planned that he would apply for dependant visa with the kids by March. Unfortunately due to the lock down, they couldn’t get the biometrics done and the worst happened,my hubby died from covid 19 related disease last week.My life shattered but I have to keep moving
I am planing to return to Nigeria to get the kids for biometrics but my heart bleeds for my husband after all his sacrifices . I am considering applying for his mum so she can help with the kids while I run around. Please, how can I go about this?? There’s enough fund to cover her maintenance fee.
@Just wise and all kindly advise. My sincere condolences for your loss. May his soul find perfect peace. You cannot sponsor your hubby's mother on your tier 4 visa as a dependent (only husband, unmarried partner, and child are eligible). His mum could apply for a long-term Standard Visitor visa that lasts 2, 5 or 10 years. She can stay for a maximum of 6 months on each visit. I don't know how easy it is to get but I can't think of any other option for now really sorry for your loss again |

Bsc mechanical engineering - my undergraduate
Pls between computer science and data science and analytics which would you suggest I go for in masters With regards to job prospects?
Thanks in anticipation!! It depends on what you'd really love to do. I'd say you go for CS but here are some insights which may help you in making a decision 1. Computer science; -PROS: the syllabus is broad, covers almost all specializations of computer-related courses (data science, software, cybersecurity, etc). This will help when looking for jobs as you would not be restricted to one area -CONS: might not cover data science in-depth (you will need to study in-depth by yourself) 2. data science; -PROS: broad and in-depth coverage of data science syllabus -CONS: restricted to searching for jobs in data science only and possibly programming as well. |

First of all, the concept of free in our society and capitalist economy is utopian as health care (and other services) is free to NO ONE in the UK (except maybe people who have never had a job in their lives) because as employees, we all pay NI contributions taxes that counts towards funding the NHS.
So yes, foreign students pay IHS fees to have access to "free" health care, the same way UK, EU, and non-EU citizens pay NI contributions taxes from their salary in order to access the said free health care.
Nothing in our society is actually free because someone somewhere is paying for it. I said free health care because that is the common idea we have of it |

dejol88: Those going in for may intakes, will it affect such student ? In the admission letter, it was stated msc ends may 2021.Pls, advise before mistake is made. If your course is end date is May 2021, your BRP will have an additional 4 or 6 months before it expires. According to the Home Office email that was posted, those who hold a valid study permit when the scheme is launched will be eligibleSo, I think by summer 2021 (summer starts in June), even though you would have finished your course, you would still hold a valid tier 4 BRP. Therefore, personally, I'd say yes but don't quote me on that. |

I dont know why people believe in rumours. Let us apply our education. Just follow the visa rules and definitely you will get visa.
Nice one again. Like I wrote in the previous post, a marriage certificate is not the only evidence they consider when evaluating the genuineness of a relationship. Everything is considered all round. I'm sure you provided other evidence to show that your relationship existed way before your marriage happened. thats all i'm saying pls |

LagosismyHome: Please let not add to immigration rule...……… Please show official link where the home office stipulates that your relationship should be at least 2-3 years .
No country can dictate for another the terms of their relationship. if I choose to meet someone today and marry tomorrow that is my cup of tea. all that is needed is to show 'genuine and subsisting : evidence of legal marriage certificate (genuine) and evidence that the marriage still exist (like a shared bill) or pictures, recent conversation etc (subsisting) , .... Click on this link: https://assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/869768/SWS_Dependant_Guidance_02-2020.pdfand then read points 64 and 65 on page 12. and I'd like to add; A marriage certificate does not automatically confer the genuineness of a relationship. However, shared bills, old pictures, old chats, etc in addition to a marriage certificate + the visa interview altogether is what is used by the Home Office to assess the genuineness of a relationship. Also, no one is dictating the rules of your relationship but getting married on Monday and asking for a dependant/marriage/family visa on Tuesday looks fishy, especially when you apply from a "risk" country. Here is the list of countries the Home Office considers as "low-risk": https://www.gov.uk/guidance/immigration-rules/immigration-rules-appendix-h-tier-4-documentary-requirementsIf your country is not on this list then...you can deduce by yourself... I'm just stating the facts and talking from experience. At the end of the day, everybody has freedom of choice/action. |

Skymoore1004: You’re right except it’s arranged. One lady asked me to pay her 2m so she can marry me and I will go as her dependent. Told her thank you very much but no because I know people that have done it and life became miserable for them. The lady might be threatening you with divorce if you don’t do certain things for her, even after you don pay her before oh. You know Nigerians like to exercise power too much
Quite risky o Dependant visas are NOT automatic. They are given on the condition of a genuine relationship and the Home Office has means of verifying this. If you get married to someone right before they ask for a Tier 4 visa in order to add you as their dependant, it is very likely that the visa will be denied! The Home Office will usually seek proofs of a genuine relationship dating back to at least 2-3 years before the date the Tier 4 visa is applied, and you will have to prove it. I am saying this because even if you paid the said lady 2m, it is highly likely that you would not have gotten the visa. Finally, marriage visas in the UK have the same condition; prove of a genuine relationship of at least 2-3 years |

The 10 year route to settlement (otherwise called Indefinite Leave to Remain, ILR) is based on 10 years of LAWFUL/LEGAL residency in the UK, IRRESPECTIVE of the type of visa (of course, excluding visit visas and other short-stay visas). For example, it could be like so: 1. 7 years on Tier 4 visa + 3 years on marriage visa = 10 years lawful residence 2. 6 years Ter 4 visa + 4 years limited/discretionary leave to remain (visa based on family and private life) = 10 years lawful residence. 3. it can even be 5 years tier 4 + 3 years work visa + 2 years marriage visa = 10 years lawful residence. Conclusion: as long as you have been in the UK for 10 years legally, you qualify. reference: https://www.gov.uk/long-residence/eligibility |

Chuukwudi: Teesside University recently gave an unconditional offer for MSc in Artificial Intelligence starting this September.
I applied for the 2 years option with advanced practice but the admission letter says it's a 1 year program.
I can study this for one year o, also, the cost isn't a problem. But... Isn't 2 years better?
I spoke with two friends of mine, one who is presently studying Data Science and the other Computer Science, both in one of the top schools there in the UK. I was asking them how they were coping. Their answers shocked me to the marrow! They are on PTDF scholarship, first class graduates from a federal University here in the East. Very smart guys! Believe me... But they complained bitterly.. Saying that the whole 5 years we spent in the University here in Nigeria Studying Elect/Elect was a complete waste of time.
They said they didn't learn a single thing from Nigerian Uni. They are now competing with Asians, Americans, natives, etc... Who already are masters of programming. People who started writing code at the age of 9. They have 24/7 electricity and Internet, there is nothing holding them back and that they are too young and are doing masters with them.
They both warned me that I ask my University to give me the 2 years with advanced practice practice option. In her own words, "Things happen so fast here.. Before you start getting a feel of the country and what is happening around you, one semester has passed. Before you catch yourself and know what is happening, another semester has passed and soon, your one year Masters will be over"
They showed great pity when I told them that I intend working to sustain myself. And they told me that when I come, I'd see for myself.
"Artificial Intelligence is still a young filled and most jobs available in this area, right now, are research jobs. By the time you start attending lectures, you'd find out that there are so many things you do not know and from the way they teach one has to understand completely. Reading and copy and paste won't help you here. So you will find yourself going far back to read up things you should have known before coming here. Otherwise you'd sound like olodo amongst your peers! Time is so precious here, considering the fact that you need to study the so many things you do not know, you may not have the time to work" one of them bloated out.
They have asked me to spend hours daily to study my courses before hand using the time I have now till September. They told me of how far behind their computer typing skills were and how greatly they have improved so far.
In general, I started thinking about myself... Am I prepared for all that?
In the end... I need to keep my programming top notch. And I have just started learning python.
I even started considering staying back this year just to do the intensive work I need to do in order to be able to get along but they told me that, if I'm able to invest at least 8 hours daily, from now till September, I'll be able to cope. The sooner I leave, the better other wise, the 10 naira they are using to sponsor me will turn to 6 naira by next year due to devaluation.
Have you a similar experience? Please, I'd love to hear. I am currently in the UK and I am studying a Computer Science related course as well. What your friends said is the absolute truth! However I do not think the course is difficult, it is just the mode of study that is utterly different from what we are used to in Africa. 1. Graduate studies in the UK entail lots of INDEPENDENT SELF-STUDY, irrespective of the field (engineering, business, health, etc). Start developing the habit of reading lots of other textbooks after lectures, going out of your way to get more information on a certain topic, etc. 2. You absolutely cannot use part-time jobs (20 hours/week) to pay your tuition fees. It has been repeated several times on this platform. 3.Do not take this information as a means of discouragement. INSTEAD, let it help you to know what awaits you once you land here and start preparing yourself mentally. 4.AI is in great demand, do not let anyone tell you otherwise. And even if you do not necessarily get a job in AI, you will at least get one in software development. 5. From your typing, it sounds like you have already given up without even trying. Your mates told you to study programming now till September, that's roughly 5 months' time. |
