Thank you @materna for your response...I appreciate.. I will looo at everything critically considering all other factors and come up with something soon. God bless

Yes forget Vancouver. It's extremely expensive. I feel Alberta gets a bad wrap. Every province has a bread and butter economy. Oil is Alberta's bread and butter as it should be, but there's other types of industry there as well. Construction is usually on going in Canada. With population increase you'll constantly have new projects then of course you have maintenance as well. I'm not too educated about the construction industry as a whole, but there's always projects going on. As for your spouse nurse, she'll be fine wherever she goes once she's qualified. I'm curious to know how your friend came with the conclusion nobody helps each other in Calgary. I know a lot of good people from Calgary. I'd personally go to Calgary over Ottawa. And if things don't work out, grab your load and move to Ottawa.

Nice one. May the land Favour you and yours

linuslynx:
‘’LANDING GIST’’

I've benefited quite a lot from this thread and even the Express Entry thread, 95% of the resources I used for this journey came from Nairaland and though I am silent most of the time I really want to encourage and thank especially those who constantly respond to questions here. We got PPR since march last year but had to sort out some things in naija hence our landing now.

Our journey started from Calabar, family of three, we had to send some baggage through Courier to my Sister in Abuja where we eventually took off.

Take off date was 19th January with Ethiopian airline, and we arrived the airport at about 9.25am for a flight of 1.30pm. It was too early to part with family members so we had to proceed with checking in to come out later for final goodbyes and the cry cry.
First check in point with immigration dem bounce our 75cl palm oil but lucky for us one escaped. I sharply collected it and gave the baggage guy to give my mum outside, if we no fit carry am travel Immigration no go flex on top our oil. They still probed further about our honey but I talked that one through.

Next we went to get boarding pass which was smooth except for when it came to baggage weight wahala. I used the old school scale at home so I knew one of my bags was like 28kg. I argued with the guy that online check in should give me 5kg free but he insisted that the information on the website is misleading and doesn’t suffice, I sha still argue small and finally he waived it. I tipped the guy at the baggage scale because he did small magic too.

Subsequent checks before boarding were smooth, once them see that Canada immigrant Visa remain make dem salute us to pass, chai naija passport don suffer person. I was now thinking to myself what would happened when person get that Canada passport finally. We left for Addis Ababa flight was smooth, inflight entertainment on point, food just manageable, lay over time about 2.30hrs, their wifi wasn’t functional at the time so couldn’t reach family. Flight to Dublin was cool too lay over of about an hour for re-fueling and crew change. We took off for Toronto afterwards and arrived at about 7.30am local time but the snow was something else so it took a while before we even disembarked. I just knew we’d miss our connecting flight to Calgary which was for 9.30am. We were later rescheduled however for another flight.

Now, getting to the immigration officer at the POE was traumatic for us because we had a terrible experience while trying to get dollars the day before our trip. The transfer we did to the BDC till now has not even impacted and neither has the funds been reversed back to our account so we only had cash of $2,000 on us for a family of three and with all the news of immigration officers being strict with showing POF we sha bolded up and met the guy, he asked how much we had and I said $2k the guy now looked at me and asked me again you said how much and I answered $2k, I was now trying to explain that I have the balance in my account blah blah but he wasn’t even interested and just stamped my declaration card and told us to proceed and that was it oh. We met another immigration officer and he expressed shock too at us just having $2k but he still let us in without much hassle. Just be confident in your response and hold God POF isn’t enough reason for them to turn you back at the POE.
We landed Calgary exhausted and three of our bags didn’t land with us and they had critical items in them. This stressed us further but they promised to deliver them which they didn’t as there was now some communication mix up and I had to still go pick them from the airport 24hrs later.

Accommodation for us was easy as we already had a place before landing, we got a referral to a naija landlord who gave us a very warm welcome, cooked for us and even stocked our fridge reasonably. We also had a family friend who helped signed off as guarantor, picked us from the airport and welcomed us warmly.
The cold no be here oh but I understand it’s been the mildest winter in a long while so we’d just enjoy it while it last. You can never be too prepared for this journey, just do your best and leave the rest to God.

Another thing, we deliberately mistakenly omitted declaring the fish we brought in but thank God dem no catch us else I understand it would have been a serious issue for us, so it’s always safer to declare to avoid being caught out as the trauma wasn’t here waiting to know if dem go catch us or not. By the time I spoke to someone who advised I declare correctly dem don cross off the “yes” option so I couldn’t adjust it again.

We've gotten SIN and registered for our Health Cards, opened accounts and credit cards are on the way. Going to the immigration service centres later this week to get a settlement councilor. There's still so much to do but na one step at a time. Everybody dey run different race just do you cos what works for person A may not work for person B. You suddenly realize 24hrs a day isn't enough any longer but I'm very positive that we would settle down effectively, get jobs and start our respectively school/certification programs soonest so we can level up.

Thanks guys for reading through and may we fight less please and if we must fight may it be very constructive and beneficial to all.

Every dream begins with a dreamer but dreams don't come true by magic, it takes hard work, determination and sweat. Let's keep being positive and pushing, our dreams will surely come true.

God bless us all.

Thanks so very much @salford. I really appreciate your response. God bless you. I will make my mind open and make a decision on this. I can as well function well on other areas like manufacturing and any other field also, at least to pay my bills and also build a career in Canada. If Construction seems to be tough to get, I will try explore other areas as available also.
God bless you my Oga

salford1:
Your friend was right about the Alberta economy being affected by the low oil price. Calgary especially took a serious hit. I can't say how easy it is to get construction project management jobs in Calgary at the moment. If you insist on going to Alberta, you may be better off going to Edmonton. As per your madam's nursing profession, there is an oversupply of nurses in Calgary. Getting a stable nursing job in calgary after qualifying might be a challenge. Generally speaking, the demand for nurses are usually in small towns/cities. Still, one can't go wrong with a nursing degree in Canada if you do not restrict yourself to a location.

However, it is important to note that I am not writing off Calgary, since what works for mr A may not necessarily work for mr B and vice versa. While the oil sector is taking a hit and laying off people/people losing homes, the renewable energy industry is picking up steam. As bad as the Alberta economy is, two friends still bought ~ 2500 sq ft new homes in Calgary just last year. In summary, there are still other industries that do not depend on oil to thrive. In terms of jobs in Ottawa, I do not know anything about it's economy.

I really do not understand what you meant by "scanty community and mixing up". It is not true that people do not want to support others. You would find good and not so good people everywhere, irrespective of whether you stay in Ottawa or Calgary.

Hello landed seniors! I have decided to carry myself enter here officially while waiting for COPR. My PPR story has been shared on the sister thread. Una Weldone here oh.

Please I need help from our experienced seniors here. I am a construction project manager with civil engineering background and about ten years experience in the construction industry. Before now, I have been doing some research on the best province for me to land with my Nurse Spouse. Came up with Vancouver BC and Calgary, Alberta as preferred places. But decided to chose Calgary because I read from some sites that Vancouver and BC is generally expensive and tough to survive.
I was chatting with a friend who currently lives in Ottawa Ontario yesterday and he was kinda discouraging me from going to Calgary but rather come join him in Ottawa. He mentioned reasons like fluctuation in oil whic I turn affect the entire Alberta economy, scanty communities which prevents one from mixing up, inability to easily get support from people as most calgarians are ‘mind ur business kinda people’ and all that. The truth is that apart from the fact that I personally don’t like to live in a place that is too busy like Lagos, I also don’t seem to believe there are construction opportunities from what I have seen so far in Ottawa as compared to Calgary, I may be wrong oh. But then, experienced people should please help me.

So I have brought this here for my ogas to help me chuck mouth and advice me oh before I go jogodo for Cannyland.

All what my friend was telling me was that I can easily get casual jobs almost immediately as I land and start looking for better job once I get settled.

Your suggestions and advise would be very appreciated.

Hmmm!!!
I think these predictions are very likely to be correct

joo2018:
Some musings.

The instances of several people who requested PPR mail from NDVO getting other fresh PPR mails seem to confirm a hypothesis I had about applicants whose applications were approved but forwarded back from Ottawa to CIO without PPR mail.

Here it is: There was a decision to delay issuing of PPR mails because EE Permanent Residence admissions target had been met early for 2018. Delaying PPR mails into Dec 2018 and Jan 2019 meant that people would be forced to land in 2019. Given that Ottawa is the largest office and appears to handle at least 60% of applications, it made sense to restrict the policy to Ottawa. So approved files were forwarded to CIO to be held in a bank. PPR mails for those applications will be triggered in batches at scheduled periods from late December to January 2019.

In practice, NDVO was not involved in the decision. Indians who got PPR from NDVO in Nov/Dec were unlikely to land in 2018 anyway. But through online forums like canadavisa, people got to know of the loophole and it appears as if NDVO has some sort of autonomy anyway. So they began issuing PPRs to every Tom, Dick and Harry who asked as long as the application has been approved.

So, people got the PPRs and Nigerian residents forwarded their passports to Accra. Accra which always follow due process (I hail o!). So Accra has been holding people's passport till the appointed time without issuing CoPR. However, the time period in for the delayed applications has been triggered and so there has been automated release of PPR mails (without visa office specified) for those involved.

Prediction: The repeat PPR mail for some (could be a programming error) will continue until the batched applications have all received PPRs or the automated program turned off. Meanwhile Accra will start releasing passports en-mass from now.

Story in Full

I was never a fan of leaving Nigeria until October 2014, when I just relocated to Abuja. I was in one of my paddy's house and heard him discussing with his aunt about FSWP. I picked interest suddenly and then joined him nah so we start. We were mis-informed then that we would have to get a Canadian Immigration lawyer to be able to scale through. So we employed Abrams & krochak and started paying those guys oh. We spent about 1.3m individually and nothing came out of it. Our ECA came out after about 6 months with ICAS Canada. When Abrams started asking for money payment, I just jejely told my fried that I quit, cos for about a year, we were busy completing one single form oh, we will fill it and he will send it back that we have to re-fill. This went on for like 4 times so I got tired and decided to let it go.

Fast forwarded to 2016, I started thinking about leaving this country again and was introduced to the US study VISA thread. I started following the thread, and by April 2016, I had registered to write GRE for PhD study in the US. The result came out but was not enough to get me an admission with funding, a total of 297 (V:150, Q147 & AW: 4.0). At this time I was advised from the forum to write TOEFL (another test of English I had been running away from) as that would boost my chances of getting funding. I wrote and scored 97, but then, it got me admission in 2 schools but no funding. I quit again as I had no means of raising fund to study for PhD degree.

But in January 2017, My new year resolution was to ensure I do everything humanly possible to relocate from this Naija. then I started following this thread but only during my most free periods, so I was not really concentrating. It then made the whole process look too tough for me to complete, though I was not scared of IELTS any longer since I had written TOEFL already. But I could not start.

Then the next month I stumbled on the Canadian Study VISA thread as I was already stylishly eyeing Canadian Schools. I applied to UAlberta, UofT, and two other schools, In short, I got MBA admission into Rotman's Business School but yet no funding.

Then by October 2017, I told wifey I was not interested anymore and came back to this thread oh, she tried convincing me to stick to one plan as it wasn't good the way I have been jumping from one to another without seeing it through. By that time some of the people I was reading their post had gotten COPR and I was still yet to start. I then started with ECA, and the rest was history

ITA
I missed the draw of July 25th Because my ECA report came in that same morning and I was on my way to Lagos from Abuja by road, Nah so network fail me oh. e pain me die as I missed ITA just with 12 mins

POF - Family of 4; I used 100% Gift Deed and also supported it with my Pension Certificate. I fixed the fund for two months and had to roll over three times, the last one being just last Friday and the confirmation mail came in just 20mins before the PPR mail grin I also submitted my six months salary account statements even though shingbain no dey inside. buhahahahahaha

LETTER OF EXPERIENCE
I got letters from my last employer only and didn't bother to include the current employer since I had only spend barely two months at that time. I also did and LOE to explain this part. the LOE also covered name issue on wifey and first son's passport, together with their 'same and one person' affidavit.

Medicals - (My greatest challenge even though I knew many people scaled through this) I had ADR for additional test due to my HBV status and that delayed a bit until 2nd November before I could pass medicals. The request came actually before AOR cos our medicals was upfront at Consultants Practice, but was not ready until after Biometric request as because I was using one very meticulous Gastro from Lagos Island General Hospital.

This is the end of my Story ooooh cool

Oya, Prof Ralph, come and give me my 10/10....I cannot coman go an kee myself

But before I leave, I wish to sincerely appreciate everyone on this thread especially @Newmum, Chai... That lady unknowingly did a lot for me on this journey. At a time, I was only interested in whatever she writes cos they were always addressing my issues directly then. May God in his infinite mercies continue to bless her and everyone on this journey, both the landed seniors, newly approved and the Jambites among us.

We will all have a a reason to laugh last by the special grace of God. I am happy today because God has crowned all my long time effort and it has finally ENDED IN PRAISE. cheesy

Once again I thank God and I am thanking everyone here.

PEACE!!!

It takes about one month from when you submit to when you get your passport back.
You have four options;

1. Email Ottawa and ask for an extension. Show the booked flight tickets and ask to submit when she returns. This is the best option if her stay is short.

2. Reschedule the flights and exams. Hopefully the cost here is not too much. If it is, consider other options.

3. Submit to Accra and mail them with the request for urgent expedited COPR and visa issuance. This is a gamble. They might listen or they might ignore you.

4. If her stay in the Philippines is long enough, she can consider submitting her Passport over there. She would have to write Ottawa to get a new PPR tailored for the VO in the Philippines.

Congratulations again. Please cook the story well
@Ifeoma77, thank you so very much for this swift response. You are the best. I will definitely take all this options into consideration and go with one would work . I’m quite sure one of this options will do the trick.

If you still have enough time to submit your eAPR, You may wait till you get the report, otherwise, go ahead and submit, once the report is ready, mail it to your panel physician for upload to your application.
However, there is no much issue on Hep B, what is important is that you carry out all required test and your gastro giving a quality report including addressing history, diagnosis, management needs and expected prognosis. Let your test also include hepatitis serology and recent LFTs, Fibroscan or liver ultrasound. He should also specify if antiviral treatment is required. Looking at the results you will also know if they are okay or not. You should be fine especially of you have been placed on drug or supplements as your case may require.

Follow up with the Gastro doctor if there are no major issues with your test results. Regards

Good evening to my dear online family. Been a silent reader and have learnt a lot. God bless all the contributors.
Please i have a situation and need advise from seniors here. Biko SOS sad huh
I am post ITA but there is an issue with my medical. Had medicals done at IOM and found out i have Hep B during the medical exam and was refereed to see a Gastro for further consultation so as to obtain a medical report to submit back at the clinic before they will upload my medicals on CIC e-portal. Medicals for all other family members were uploaded and the clinic gave me information sheet print out for all of us. Getting the report has been hectic as the Doctor has been delaying the process and time is no longer on my side though still waiting as all the required tests had been done; waiting for result and report. My question is that can i go ahead and submit my e-apr pending the time i get the Gastro medical report since i already have required form to upload for the ITA? I have read on the thread about applicants with Hep B issue and eventually got PPR but haven't seen any with my exact scenarios.

Please help!!! cry cry cry

Guys help me ooo...was trying to book an appointment with VFS to submit biometric tomorrow, all effort prove abortive as I could not pass through the captcha, thinking maybe their server has issues. And then I tried to call CFS Lekki to ask if I could go for it tomorrow morning without the appointment, a guy picked and said I will have to make a payment again. he requested that I sent a mail to vfsglobal2001@yahoo.com and then I will get the details of what and how to pay before coming for the capturing.

Please those who submitted recently in Lagos, was this the process before I get scammed oh...lol
Thanks in anticipation

I don't know how it works for married people but I am 100% sure you can do Biometrics at the nearest VAC to you wherever in the world as long as you have the Biometrics request document and two copies of your international passport. Even better, call vfs to ask, they pick calls. +23481501 99900
Thanks so much for this, I will give it a try.
