Again like I stated, in the absence of the breakdown of how the government arrived at those figures, it is imperative that we be a little discerning in jumping to conclusions. Other costs which might have been factored in and which do not form part of the basis of Mr Ettus figures might include transportation, consultation, logistics, hardware costs...etc...
What transportation? What logistics? After making it clear to you, that logistics costs for diesel form an integral part of the price of the commodity? You mean Njoku, not Dike.

Botany encapsulates any plant based endeavour, from agriculture to biotechnology. Courses were not as diverse as it is today. A botanist could become a biologist, agriculturist, etc
Yes, thanks for the correction. I meant Njoku not Dike. And studying Botany does not make a person qualified to take on the duties of an Agriculturist. Agriculture is wider and far more encompassing of the lifecycle, uses and structure of farming and other agric based endeavours than botany could ever hope to be. Please do not mislead people.

Professor Omooba Oladele Adebayo Ajose (1907-1978) who died 25 years ago this July, was a Prince of the Royal House of Lagos, but he was much more than a prince. He had an air of authority about him, that came from the profound knowledge of his field of medicine, and his absolute integrity and honesty. He was eager and ever ready to use his professional knowledge, to the advantage and benefit of the people.

Professor Ajose was also a family man. He married Beatrice Spencer Roberts in 1933 in Glasgow, Scotland where he studied at the University of Glasgow from 1927 to 1932.

In the early years of his professional life, Dr. Oladele Ajose worked first as the Assistant Medical Officer of Health for Lagos (1936-47) and he was then appointed Medical Officer for Health from 1947-48. He was also the Founder of the British Red Cross Society in Nigeria. which later became the Nigerian Red Cross Society and he also founded the Infectious Disease Hospital in Lagos (commonly referred to as the IDH) through his involvement in the control of tuberculosis in Lagos.

In 1948, Dr. Ajose left the civil service for his appointment as the first Black African Professor to be appointed to a full chair in Preventive and Social Medicine at the University College, Ibadan. Ibadan was at that time a College of the University of London.

Oladele was in fact the first proponent of primary health care in Nigeria. This was a revolutionary idea in those days. This project also served as the basis for the worldwide establishment of fish ponds.

Professor Ajose was awarded the title of Chief Bada of Ilora in appreciation of his efforts.

After many years of splendid work at Ibadan, he was chosen and appointed as the first Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ife (now called the Obafemi Awolowo University), a post that he held until the first military coup in 1966. On his retirement from academic life Professor Ajose returned to his hometown Lagos.

In spite of all his achievements (and it has not been feasible to mention more than a few) he remained ever humble, never blowing his own trumpet, but ever ready to acknowledge the credit due to others.

He contested for the Stool of Lagos under the Ogunye Family of Oba Ologunkutere. Professor Ajose and the late Oba Oyekan were the two final contestants for the royal stool. After Oba Oyekan was selected, Professor Ajose continued to serve his people both in his public health, and clinic activities. He was also appointed as the Chairman of the Lagos State Schools Service Board.

We thank God for his life given in the service of his fellow men. Unfortunately we don’t know yet of any worthy memorial to mark his contribution to our society, apart from the Oladele Ajose Institute of Public Health at the University College Hospital, University of Ibadan.

Professor Ajose married Beatrice Spencer Roberts in 1933 in Glasgow, Scotland and had three daughters and one son including Ambassador Audrey Ajose, Professor Muriel Oyediran, and the late Trixie who had a son Mark Ashby. The late Professor Oladele-Ajose later had another wife who bore him five children. Four boys and a girl. His children from his second wife Abimbola Oladele-Ajose, include Prince Adewale Oladele-Ajose, Olusegun Kehinde Oladele-Ajose, Olufemi Taiwo Oladele-Ajose, Adebisi Otusanya (nee Oladele-Ajose) and Adeniran Alaba Oladele-Ajose.

Strangely enough, I have never noticed a sense of entitlement among the Yorubas, even though I have lived among them for quite a while. The sense of entitlement you speak of, is more commonly found among the Igbos, surely?

Are you aware that some businesses even folded up, due to the fact that their foreign inputs became too costly for them to use, to sustain their operations? Others who could switch from foreign inputs to local alternatives, did so.

But what is the alternative to the increase in the Land Use Charge? huh Only myopic individuals like you lot, think that consumers, tenants and the general public have an inexhaustible supply of funds that they can deploy to match every irrelevant increase, proposed by govt agencies! When a landlord is hit with an increase of 400% in his Land Use Charge, on a property he has rented out to tenants, where do you think he will recoup the increase from, if he does not increase his annual rental fees? Or do you expect him to steal to pay the increase in rates?
shocked You obviously do NOT own a house in Lagos, and neither do you have relatives that own one, otherwise you would not talk like this.

As for using the increased taxes in the right direction, maybe you should do a survey. undecided Ambode is very quick to make high falutin' promises, and very slow to execute them. He brought in Visionscape, and increased waste disposal levies. Visionscape has shown how clueless they are about tackling waste in Lagos, as the waste burden has increased, and there is no relief in sight, to the filth being generated. sad

Ambode has increased vehicle registration costs in Lagos, and now people are moving to Ogun state to register their vehicles for a fraction of the sum Ambode's govt is charging. Even unilags first black VC was pioneer professor Eni Njoku, another great academic of botany.

The foolish Yorubas who were members of NCNC were never offered any sensitive position in the NPC/NCNC partnership of the first republic. Not even the Eastern minorities were offered critical positions.

All that was good that the Northerners could not occupy, the Azikiwe led NCNC ensured it went to the Eastern region, and ultimately to only the Igbos of that multi-ethnic Eastern Region.

Cold blooded crooks. They will always demand for more and more cos their ocean of greed cannot be satisfied. Awon ole buruku leaders.
Do you even know what is so painful? huh It is the stuvpid lies that members of Ambode's administration are circulating, in a bid to justify the increase in Land Use Charges. See what Kehinde bamigbetan and others are saying. It would make you puke! sad

The Lagos State Government on Wednesday, clarified the figures circulating in the media, on the rate for the newly reviewed Land Use Charge Law of 2018, saying many of the numbers were based on several years of arrears on the levy, not paid by affected property owners.

Speaking at a news briefing held at the Bagauda Kaltho Press Centre in Alausa, Ikeja, the State’s Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Mr Kehinde Bamigbetan said there were so many misconceptions and misinformation about the new law, adding that the law was a progressive enactment duly made by the House of Assembly and handed over to the Executive for implementation in the overall interest of the people.

He specifically dismissed the humongous figures being bandied about on the social media, saying many of the calculations were based on arrears of many years of non-payment.

“The second important part is that a lot of relieves have been built into the law but many people are confusing arrears with the actual figure. If you see those figures, ask whether it is for one year or arrears of several years of non-payment. The humongous figures that are being bandied around particularly in the social media relate to the arrears of many years of non-payment which are computed together,” Bamigbetan said.

..... Responding to fears of tenants that the new Law might force landlords to increase rent, Ashade said aside the fact that the Lagos State Tenancy Law 2011 was still in force, the incidence of payment for Land Use Charge under the new law is on the Landlord and not the tenant.
https://lagosstate.gov.ng/blog/2018/03/07/land-use-charge-outrageous-amount-in-circulation-unfounded-based-on-arrears-lasg/
It is disgraceful to see a man of Bamigbetan's calibre telling such bold faced lies. angry Which dirty, stuvpid "arrears of many years of non-payment," is he referring to? shocked Most of those people I know, who have been bombarded with humongous increases in Land Use Charges this year, have not defaulted on paying any of their LUC fees in the previous years, so what nonsense are they talking about?

In my estate, if you do not pay your Land Use Charge, a huge sticker alleging you have defaulted with a big red 'X' on it, is pasted right across your gate! And if the default continues, you see their officials stopping by to threaten defaulters, with fire and brimstone! shocked

My friend's mum who is a pensioner in Lekki, sends her LUC bill to her son's office annually, so that it can be processed and paid for her, as she is too elderly to handle all that stress on her own. And every year, that LUC is paid as and when due, without fail! sad But this year, her LUC bill was increased from 78,000 naira per annum to almost 400,000 naira annually! how can they justify such a huge ridiculous increase? And the only explanation they can give is to say that, it is due to "arrears of many years of non-payment!"

The day God starts exacting punishment on people for lies, Lagosians would pity those in Ambode's current cabinet undecided.

The most annoying part is that most of you who support all these stupid policies of APC govt in Lagos and Nigeria, are usually the worst hit. I know somebody who almost fought me because he was supporting buhari in 2015. Today, hunger has dried him up and makes him look like an aids patient. When he wears his shirts, they look like parachute on him. If you see topics and you don't have any reasonable comments to post, just keep quiet and read comments, rather than making a fool of yourself.
You have hit da nail on da head! sad

The land use charge is a valid law in Lagos. Whoever owns a landed property in Lagos is under obligation to pay. Any non Yoruba that is not willing to pay should move his/her property out of Lagos. Nobody is forcing non Yoruba's to remain in Lagos compulsory.
Stop it. angry I have spoken to several Yoruba landlords in Lagos, and they are very upset about the charges! sad Yes, the land use charge is a valid law in Lagos. But Ambode should not use it as a means of extortion. A person who was paying 140,000 naira as LUC last year, is now suddenly told to pay 2 million naira as LUC, for this year. And you have given him just 30 days to do so. Is he going to steal to pay it? Or is the current govt trying to pauperise landlords in Lagos? Does Ambode not realise that landlords would automatically increase house rents for their tenants, in order to make up for the increase in LUC? huh

This governor is not realistic. You can't enforce Yoruba language on every Lagosian, "it's a Yoruba city", and you turn around to enforce oncreased taxation on non-Yoruba citu dwellers. That's retarrrrdwd.
Don't be silly. Who told you that Yoruba people in Lagos, are exempted from paying the new increases in Land Use Charge/Tax? huh
