diasporaman: Against all odds, against the political permutations of Italian politics, Italy has elected its first black senator, a Nigerian immigrant who is a member of the country’s far-right, anti-immigrant League party. Toni Iwobi, the head of the party’s immigration department, was elected on Sunday (March 4) in Brescia, an industrial city in northern Italy.
His election didn’t go down well with some people who slammed his choice to work against his own fellow immigrants.Iwobi’s party is an anti-immigrant party that has campaigned vigorously against the integration of African immigrants in the past. His party has explored several means whereby the influx of African immigrants into Italy can be halted
Iwobi, 62, came to Italy in the 1970s on a student visa, got married to his Italian wife and became a councilor for the party in 1995. Iwobi said that he wasn’t against immigration, but that he wanted people to travel to Italy.
However a video has surfaced where the first black senator vowed to deport all immigrants who are living in Italy illegally most especially his fellow Nigerians.
Nigeria has the highest number of immigrants in Italy, last year alone over 17,000 crossed the Mediterranean sea into Italy.
ON Thursday August 30, the Federal Government declared Anambra State the 10th oil bearing state in the country. President Goodluck Jonathan made the announcement, while inaugurating Orient Petroleum’s Anambra River Production Facility in Aguleri-Otu, Anambra East Local Government Area and the decision has catapulted Anambra into the league of oil-producing states like Akwa Ibom, Cross River, Rivers, Bayelsa, Abia, Imo, Ondo, Delta and Edo.
With the development, the state will start getting extra revenue from the 13 per cent derivation fund, as soon as oil produced from the state starts contributing to the federation account.
However, before Anambra earns a kobo from oil, it has started facing challenges from many quarters. Reason: Kogi and Enugu states are also laying claims to the oil. A host of Kogi groups and leaders are spoiling for war, claiming that the Anambra Well (1), which currently feeds the Orient refinery in Anambra, is on Odeke land in Ibaji local government area of Kogi State.
A similar claim is also coming from Enugu State.
The Anambra basin, where the oil is being explored encompasses communities in Anambra, Kogi, Enugu and Delta states. Since 1927, tension has always brewed among the communities around the borders, following the boundary demarcation between Northern and Eastern regions.
There was a serious bloodbath between the people of Aguleri in Anambra and those of Ibaji (Kogi) in 1994. There was also a protracted war between the Aguleri and Umuleri people of Anambra, in the late 90s. Four of the wells, according to Orient Petroleum, are said to be currently at exploration stage in the area.
While Orient said the bulk of the deposit are in Anambra State, Committee on Oil and Gas Exploration in Ibaji land contended that the area the company was referring to as part of Anambra, was indeed in Kogi State.
Orient Petroleum Chairman, Chief Emeka Anyaoku, admitted that the basin cuts across the various states. However, he said the controversy over ownership of the oil deposits had been resolved, and that the ‘bulk’ of the deposits were within Anambra territory, a statement the aggrieved Kogi groups dispute. There is need to resolve the emerging disputes amicably to avert needless inter-state bickering, that may degenerate to another skirmishes and loss of human lives as was witnessed in April 1994 during the Obale/Aguleri crisis.
You must be a shareholder of westernpost. It is a faceless online publication. That article was written by their "Staff writer." Tell me, is "Staff writer," a person's name? Oga, I can as well give you other links to other publications that show a different view of Eni Njoku, from the one you know. I have done so already, in one of my earlier posts. I gave you an article written about the Unilag crisis under Eni Njoku and published in Minerva which is an international journal, that is a highly rated Review of Science, Learning and Policy. It contains articles by scholars, academicians and reputable writers. It is clearly way above your so-called 'Western post.'
https://static-content.springer.com/cover/journal/11024/56/1.jpg Minerva is devoted to the study of ideas, traditions, cultures, and institutions in science, higher education, and research. It is equally focused on historical as well as present practices and on local as well as global issues. Moreover, the journal does not represent one single school of thought, but rather welcomes diversity within the rules of rational discourse.
The journal features peer reviewed articles and essay reviews. In addition, special issues are periodically published on themes of topical importance. https://link.springer.com/journal/11024
zarakikenpa: Pls don't mislead job seekers o. There was an instance where two guys sailed through all stages of interview including medicals and the company needed to employ just one. Right in front of the MD they were asked to identify their social media accounts to peruse what type of content they posted. So aside the name and picture, what you post on social media can be used against you.
Oga, I am not misleading job seekers. I know quite a few people who were employed by big multinationals, yet they lacked a social media account. I am one of them. Only lazy HR people or clueless bosses depend on a person's Facebook account, for hiring purposes. So, does having a social media account prove you can do the job excellently? Before social media gained ground, how was the hiring process conducted? If they are insistent on a social media account, I will direct them to Linkedin, or Quora. If that is not enough for them, tough luck. It shows that organisation is rather unserious....and such organisations enthrone mediocrity, instead of value.
BARAJ92: . Mention any bank or Big firm that allows 2-2 graduate to apply for graduate trainee. that is my point am not saying some organisation don't recruit 2-2 but most of the lucrative job limit their application to 2-1. from personal experience, It is best for a student to struggle to get 2-1 or first class then graduating 2-2. Am not disputing the fact that your class of degree does not really show your worth
There are quite a few, from Union bank to Wema Bank and Unity bank. This 2-1 class of degree is overhyped. I know many people who were employed with a 2-2 degree, simply because they excelled at the interview. You need to just ensure that your CV is tailored to the job requirements, or it reflects some of the qualities they are looking for in a candidate.
sunnymaja: Are you saying 9,000 is too much for owner occupiers house that worth 20m? Or the owner occupier and partly rented house that worth 20m to pay 30k? Let us begin to think positively
Who valued the house at 20 million? And have you met any landlord whose house is worth 20 million, coming online to tell you he was given an LUC charge of 9,000 to pay? Why do you guys swallow everything govt says or does, when experience has shown that the greatest proponents of propaganda, are people in govt?
hush15: Well, you are right that in foreign countries, you pay for everything but thats because they provide everything. Here they collect and you get nothing...
Gbam!! Correct analysis! May the wisdom God gave you, never run dry!
Chukazu: Every platform has got it "selling point"
1.Facebook is for show off-- women enter toilets at every Mr Biggs eatery snap selfies in front of mirror and tag it " home sweet home"
Guys posing in front of a stranger's car at end of church service , take some selfies and tag..."Sunday morning ride"... customization is allowed here
2.Twitter is for witty and intelligent discuss
3.LinkedIn is professional work/career networking..u want find my real name go to LinkedIn not Facebook
4.Nairaland is for tribalism and Buhari nemesis..
Thank you! Only an unserious boss or a jobless HR person, would base his hiring decisions on Facebook entries! So what happens when 3, 4, or 5 people bear the same name as yours,' and do not have a picture attached to their profile? I have seen it happening before.... would that HR person or boss, simply think the first account is your own?
sketcherJ: You would have noticed that crazy trend now on Facebook for some years, in which some users intentionally register their names incorrectly or change, edit, and customize their Facebook names or IDs to look cool, posh or trendy.. whereby you would see a guy who was named Akinola Davis from birth and has this name on all his professional certifications and IDs, would be Harkinola Darviss on Facebook, and Sandra Smith would likely be Cuteberry Smith, although it seems harmless and just fun catching on the social media, but allow me to be a spoilsport this once (sorry please!) by saying that on the real sense of it..customizing your name on Facebook actually has its own disadvantages which you might find costly at the end of the day.. Let's get into it..
It could lose you a job : Do you know that customizing your name on Facebook could lose you a sweet deal or a job? There have been cases of many job applicants whose applications letters have been reportedly thrown into the trash can because the Hiring Firms crosschecked the applicants contacts and their Social media profiles and because of the inconsistency, they were rejected. Nowadays Firms run background check on their prospective employees just to get little or no information about them, and your Facebook account is one of those things they use to judge your character, know things about you, your level of seriousness etc ,and it all starts from your Facebook ID. Although not all Recruiting agencies or companies do this, but you don't want to take that chance of not getting your dream job, because of just a harmless Facebook customized name.. I will enjoin you to treat your Facebook Profile professionally like your LinkedIn profile.
The Idea behind Facebook itself : Mark Zuckerberg created Facebook to be an avenue where people could connect with each other and most especially reunite people that have lost contacts. there are many of your colleagues and friends whom might have lost your contact details and would like to reach you, their main destination would be Facebook, where they d hoped to search your real name and hook up with you, now if you had spelt your name wrongly or changed your Facebook name, they might not be able to get to your account, then the purpose of having an account on Facebook would have been defeated.. A guy once shared a testimony on how his old time friend was able to link him for a job in his company. his story goes thus " my friend, who knew that I could do a certain task with ease then in the school days, remembered my name when the opportunity came up, But we have lost contacts then, he was able to get me tracked via my facebook. if I had used funny name like "horpheyemi, Holuwhathobi, Wizdaddy etc. what will have become of me" For your friends, your loved ones, your colleagues to find you on Facebook with ease, Your Real Name is key.
It is not professional : Customizing your Facebook Name is not professional as it makes you look like (let's be frank) an unserious fellow who still has a lot to learn, it is not allowed and advisable in the corporate world and you could look bad to your prospective clients or partners If they checked your facebook profile, and your names are spelled wrongly.
It makes your Facebook Account looks phoney : Having a customized or fake Name on your facebook profile makes your account appears fake and not trustworthy since cyber fraudsters who prowl social media especially Facebook creates fake accounts with a fake name to swindle and dupe the unsuspecting public.Having or operating a Fake Social media Profile is considered Illegal in many parts of the world and may carry big punishments.
How does having a Facebook account determine whether I have the experience, expertise, skill and talent to handle a particular job? So for people like us that DO NOT have Facebook accounts, what happens? Honestly, the HR people we have these days are just too damn lazy! mtcheew!
ofai: Tell that to the man in the mirror. Senate board of Unilag stood for professional competence (njoku) while politicians (council), as against the lies of your accomplice Throwback, came with their tribal politics. Thank God for history.
Sadly, I do not even know Throwback, so how can we be accomplices? And if you feel anything he said was a lie, then please face him squarely.
Who were the members of Unilag's Senate in 1965? They were Eni-Njoku's fellow Igbo lecturers, as well as several expatriate academic staff recruited by Eni Njoku to teach at the university, and therefore they supported his selection for a second term;
And who were the members of the Provisional Council of the same university in that year? Federal appointees from different parts of the federation, who owed no allegiance to Eni Njoku, and insisted on a fairly competitive method to select the next VC. So which set do you think would have voted in Eni Njoku's favour?
mercyville: I did not know Awolowo the Great but I saw and felt his good work. Providence praises him. Wait, why do your heroes always run away? I bet you would like some Pizza, won't you?
ofai: Tell that to the man in the mirror. Senate board of Unilag stood for professional competence (njoku) while politicians (council), as against the lies of your accomplice Throwback, came with their tribal politics. Thank God for history.
Why this matter just dey pain you like this? The facts and records speak for themselves. The Provisional Council consisted of members drawn from different parts of Nigeria, while the Senate consisted of Eni-njoku's friends and cronies. If Eni Njoku was such an excellent performer, he shouldn't have been afraid of competition, and the Senate should not have bothered to lobby or tip the scales in his favour, or try to impose his candidature for a second term, upon the university. Afterall, the works of his hands would have ensured that he scaled through the selection process which consisted of just him, and Biobaku, not so?
| THE UNIVERSITY OF LAGOS CRISIS | Minerva - A Review of Science, Learning and Policy | ISSN: 0026-4695 (Print) 1573-1871 (Online) | June 1965, Volume 3, Issue 4, pp 592–609 |
The conflict within the University, which was precipitated in February by the Provisional Council's appointment of Dr. S. O. Biobaku as Vice-Chancellor in place of Dr. E. Njoku, the incumbent Vice-Chancellor, whose continuance in office the Senate had recommended, has not abated.
The issue of tribal patronage, which was said to be the underlying motive in the action of the Provisional Council, came into the open on 24 March, 1965, when certain members of the university teaching staff issued a pamphlet in support of the appointment of Dr. Biobaku. 15 It said : "to read tribalism into the decision of [the] council is to do the university a great damage; and to refer to the group supporting the decision of the council as a tribal group is both wicked and hypocritical. In fact, to those who see tribalism in the innocent conduct of others we hasten to say that it is they whose past and present deeds at the university have been motivated by nothing but naked tribal loyalties and considerations."
The pamphlet went on to accuse Dr. Njoku of tribal prejudice and patronage, in his decisions concerning appointments and promotions. Dr. Njoku's supporters among the expatriate staff members, were also attacked: "We . . . believe in the integrity of the Nigerians who are at the helm of affairs at all levels. This is to say that we do not need a Gower or a McMurray or a Miss Moys to dictate to us who the next Vice-Chancellor for Lagos University should be. "
A group of students, who took the side of the council, issued a statement is alleging that Professor L. C. B. Gower, Dean of the Faculty of Law, formerly Professor of Law at the University of London (London School of Economics and Political Science) and recently adviser on commercial law to the Government of Ghana, was prejudiced in favour of the Ibos. "Can Professor Gower deny the fact", it asked, "that in the Faculty of Law which he heads, there is only one Yoruba lecturer and two assistant lecturers, as against one Ibo senior lecturer and seven Ibo lecturers?" Professor Gower was also accused of having "allowed himself to be used as a puppet by Dr. Eni Njoku-.
On 29 March the Senate met and took the following action. It requested the Provisional Council to state the grounds on which it decided not to reappoint Dr. Njoku. It declared its lack of confidence in the Provisional Council, as then constituted. It requested the Chairman of the Provisional Council to or deny a press report attributing to him, the statement that some senior members of the staff might be disciplined by the council; and it denied the right of the council to require of the students a promise of good behaviour, since questions of student discipline do not fall within the jurisdiction of the Provisional Council.
In accordance with its powers under the University of Lagos Act, Section 3 (2), the Senate instructed students to disregard the directive issued by the council. It also agreed that "no lecturer or professor or other member of the academic staff of the University of Lagos, other than those in the Medical School, shall give or undertake to give lectures or tutorial or practical classes, or otherwise undertake any instruction of students of the University of Lagos, until this Senate has determined that conditions for the giving of such instruction are suitable, and that the normal business of the university may proceed without the risk of disruption and in that atmosphere necessary for the imparting of knowledge to all legally registered students ". https://link.springer.com/article/10.1007%2FBF01099421
ofai: You should be the one sticking to the topic. Always truing to discredit Igbo achievement because of your hate and envy.
Anyway, you can't change history. Dike and njoku were trailblazers in the academia and there is nothing you or your fellow losers can do about it.
Nobody is trying to discredit anybody. That has always been your own stock in trade, and those of your clique. My point is that there is no need for propaganda and exaggeration, which is what your people are known for. And that is why I always try to set the records straight. Now, try not to feel too hurt!
nwadiuko1: As a Nigerian, my mind finds it difficult to believe that no atom of fraud underlies this issue, but the financial analyst/accountant in me thinks otherwise Mr Ettu did not factor so many logistics in, in his analysis, he overlooked or ignored some running costs, maintenance costs, labour, etc...... he is an energy specialist, but a financial novice..
Bia, running cost and maintenance cost of what? Ordinary diesel?
MChaze25: You re nothing but spent school fees Infact talking to you is like giving a scholarship to a goat..MChaze25 You don't make sense even to yourself!
ofai: He was wrong to attack a njoku NOT Dike (get your facts right), but it goes to show how fanatical one can get for njoku. Njoku was simply blameless. Even the governing council knew njoku was blameless and competent. Njoku continued till the war broke out.
Yeah...yeah...corrections have already been made. Kayode Adams attacked Saburi Biobaku, because of Eni Njoku. What next? Nobody is talking about how blameless Eni Njoku was. But trying to ascribe the appellation of "an expert manager of men and resources," to him, is somewhat far-fetched. Stick to the topic, biko.
ofai: Who were the 3rd witness parties? Your awoists? Your awo press or stooges?
You definitely know your trash is only seen here on nairaland. They are inconsequential anyway.
Well, since I do not know any Awo press stooges, I guess they must be your buddies, which is why you made reference to them. Not so? And don't be deceived. A lot of people visit nairaland, and even on Google, it pops up frequently as one of the most searched websites. So try to stop lamenting...
ofai: This is the most stupid and envy-coated post I have read today.
Are you aware that a Yoruba student attacked prof. Biobaku because of his unfair and tribalistic agenda against Prof. Njoku? Google is at your service o.
That being said, read this excerpts:
Pioneer university administrators like Profs. Ade Ajayi and Eni Njoku constitute the genius of university administration whose unique insights saw the possibility of injecting the university and its constituents into the nation-building efforts in Nigeria. It was already clear to these scholars the responsibility of a national university in the founding of a new nation. The postcolonial university, especially in Nigeria, ought to be more than a citadel for crunching graduates without any grounding in the dynamics of history and historiography, education and national destiny.
Sorry dude, your lies and biase has long been and will always be busted.
So because a Yoruba student named Kayode Ted Adams attacked Prof. Saburi Biobaku, you feel that student was right and his opinion constituted the sole authority by which Eni Njoku's actions must be measured? Are you for real? Was that same Yoruba student, the spokesman for all students of Unilag at that time? Are you aware that same Yoruba student pleaded insanity as a defence, when his case came up in court? So for you, the words of an insane Yoruba student is the final yardstick for confirming that Eni Njoku was an expert manager of men and resources! Wonderful! Your cluelessness is unparalleled.
Lots of revisionists from the Southeast, (as well as their apologists) have attempted to paint Eni Njoku as a saint and "an expert manager of men and resources," in most of their publications.
Independent 3rd party witnesses have however confirmed that both Kenneth Dike & Eni Njoku, made appointments tainted by nepotism and tribalism, instead of merit. And that factor proved that he was NOT an expert manager of men and resources! Someone who was an expert manager of men, would definitely not have allowed nepotism to taint his worldview, but would have been guided by the principle of merit, irrespective of where the holders of such merit came from!
During Biobaku's outreach to the UNILAG community in June 1965, Kayode Adams approached the podium and stabbed Biobaku in the back.[1] Biobaku was rushed to a UNILAG medical center where he was treated for his wounds while the Nigerian Police arrested Adams. UNILAG was shut down for months following the stabbing incident because of resulting tensions. Adams was arraigned for stabbing the Biobaku, raised a defense of insanity, and pleaded not guilty. Despite his insanity defense, Adams was found guilty of attempted murder, confined to the Yaba Psychiatric Hospital, and rusticated from UNILAG. Adams was found dead at Bar Beach, presumably from drowning in October 1969. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kayode_Adams
Eketem: Big huge fat lie. It is actually cheaper to buy from a truck than to go to a filling station. Those in trucks offer huge discounts especially buying in huge quantities. Some offer up to 40 Naira discount.
You actually pay less you don't pay separately for driver and truck.
This is from years of experience in buying diesel to power several bank branches. You must not lie to make a point but this is APC lies over needless matters.
When people like you lack understanding, you resort to insults and those insults show how utterly clueless and ignorant you are. Go back to the beginning of this thread and read all my posts, on the subject.
Ambode alleged that he spent 12 billion on diesel in one year, to power about 31,446 streetlights in Lagos. An engineer called Ettu took him to task, and said that at today's selling rate of 220 per litre, Ambode should NOT have spent more than 2 billion naira (or maximum 4 billion) on diesel, to power those street lights. And I agreed with the engineer. So what happened to the difference of 8 billion naira? That is the question Ambode and his staff, must answer.
Another poster said the difference must have been spent on logistics, trucks, drivers etc. And that is where I disagree. Final cost of diesel per litre, is inclusive of logistics and trucking costs. There is no separate charge. Even if you buy diesel from a filling station, you are not billed separately for trucking and logistics, are you? So go back and read each of my posts again. I never said that you pay separately for driver or truck. So kindly do not misquote me, and do not jump to conclusions, by alleging that I made claims which I never did!
Thank God everyone can read, and they can see that the only big huge fat liar here, is you! It is obvious you failed to learn anything tangible in school.
but Ambode should make the increment gradual... say 0.2% added every 5 years & those who are able to pay regularly for 5 years will have a exempt for 1 year & those that pay up to 5 years in advance get 1 year exempt & a discount...
it is hoped that within that time, the PPP of people in the area would also have risen to accommodate the additional increase & people are able to plan better...
duwdu: LOL... You don't get to determine or say or decree that what you earn, or your current financial state, should determine what you pay as tax on the property you own, otherwise even billionaires would claim they're currently not earning as much as they think they should be earning.
But, I can see you're very angry, so I beg to excuse myself from this argument as far as you're concerned, at least for now.
........ P34c3 ..... ...
It is this kind of posture by people like you, that allow governors and elected officials get away with murder, and criminal performance. Is there any section of the constitution or the law, that allows govt to impose arbitrary taxes unduly without any regard for the people? This lack of sensitivity to the plight of the people, is what causes demonstrations, riots and outright defiance to govt. Since you are one of Ambode's sycophants, please take this message to him: "He was not elected to impoverish Lagosians, with incessant price hikes of taxes."
ipoblogic: If the blood flowing in the Middle Belt and South at the moment is not evil enough in your eyes, then you need to see a doctor to examine your heart, it might be that of human.
Oh you are saying this, so that people can believe you are shedding real tears for the Middle Belt? We know you better than that. You are only pretending to be concerned, and shedding crocodile tears, while secretly gloating over their situation.
ipoblogic: The blood shedding, the annihilation going on in the middle belt and annexation of their lands by terrorists is not a "wish" but a reality.
So blood has not been shed in the South east by the Fulani herdsmen? Didn't I call you an alarmist earlier? Continue with your evil pronouncements against the Middle-Belt. That is the only thing you know how to do. You are too clueless to proffer a solution, everyone knows that.
Mandeyy: Didn't i say u're stupid? U disputed d fact; then, disprove it by giving facts or else u're brain.less. He that objects must corroborate it with facts.
Are you too lazy to conduct your own research? Must I spoon feed you with info? Or don't you know how to use Google again? When you were making noise about how Eni-Njoku was an expert manager of men and resources, where was your proof? Answer me first...
If you provide the correct answer, then I would direct you to the link where you can get the info on Eni-Njoku.
Firstpage: unfortunately that's how all of them thinks. They don't even empathize with the people but mock them. You see words like "but they vote buhari" 'they joined aboki to fight us in the civil war" "chineke is fighting for us" bla bla bla......yet they come here and type nonsense as if they care.
Oh, so you sef don see am?! They take delight in making fun of the dead in the Middle Belt, and secretly gloating over any misfortune which takes place in that region. Yet, when anything bad occurs in their SE region, they start vilifying others, and accusing them of being insensitive to their plight.
Just siddon dey look. The IPOB clique with their backward mentality, will soon descend on this thread. One of them opened this thread, by predicting evil for the Middle-Belt and the South already. Let us see what kind of antics the others will use to entertain us.
Mandeyy: Don't be stupid. Do u have any evidence to prove he did not perform? I need an objective evidence from u or else u're a tribalist.
Didn't I call you daft before? Okay, maybe ignorance has blinded you. Google is your friend. Search for the facts, and stop bellyaching. If you are too lazy to do so, then ask anyone who graduated from Unilag. The story is still told, till today. Eni Njoku was not infallible. People criticised his tenure, the same way they criticised the tenure of Prof. Nurudeen Alao, and Prof. Adadevoh. Were Alao and Adadevoh from Igbo land?
When you were alleging that Eni Njoku was an expert manager of men and resources, where was your proof or infallible evidence? Did you provide any?
