Firstpage: Only Igbos carry this northern fear for head. No Yoruba is threatened by any northerner or Muslim. For someone to even think that a Jihad could still happen or install an emir in a foreign land in this day and age is really pathetic. how would you install an emir in this modern age? by killing all the indigens?
some would tell you power would never come back to the south. I'm like wtf? The highest the northerners would spend is 12 years. that's if buhari is defeated by another northerner in 2019. Even the Middle-Belt is not threatened by the core Northerners. When they attacked the Fulani in retaliation, and dealt them a heavy blow in Taraba, Adamawa and other areas, where was ipoblogic? The only issue was that their adversaries were then protected by the fed govt authorities. The Middle Belt went back to regroup, and decided to re-strategise. The issue of attack, counter attack and retaliation has gone on for too long, so people are now seeking peaceful solutions to break the cycle. But your friend ipoblogic in his illogical way has only been sounding the drumbeats of alarmists, without the intelligence to proffer long-lasting solutions to the whole thing. I am waiting for Ambode to draw Infographics to explain his 12 billion naira diesel bill, the way he drew infographics and adverts to try and rationalise his illogical increase in Land use Charges (LUC). He probably thinks all Lagosians are born stuvpid, and they will swallow any crap thrown at them hook, line and sinker. He first of all increased Land Surveying fees in the state. No one shouted. Next, he increased toll gates. People shouted, and later kept quiet. Then he followed it up with an increase in waste disposal charges and inflicted Visionscape on Lagosians - the same firm that has managed to turn many areas in Lagos, into a cesspit of filth with their poor waste disposal practices. To now crown it all, he increased vehicle registration charges by 200%. Someone should remind Ambode that he was not elected into Alausa, to impoverish Lagosians or exploit them without mercy. |

duwdu: Please take it easy. It's honestly should not be views in percentage terms. The real issue should be: Was that 70k paid last year realistic for the area concerned? If it is, I'll have no issues with your argument. The reality, though, is that someone with a choice property in, say, Ikoyi, should not expect to continue to get away with paying the 7k he/she's been paying, same as his/her counterpart with property in Ajegunle!
Of course, the Ikoyi person can play on statistics and say the "1000%" increase is oppressive, but we all know who the real oppressor is.
Don't get me wrong...I'm affected and hit, as well, but there's no chance in hell one fee fits all, and a means of assessing the value of a property is always needed. Let's just hope the government thinks it more humane to just bring down the overall percentages chargeable. ........ P34c3 ..... ... Cut the crap! The person who paid 78,000 naira last year, has his income increased by 400% for him to suddenly be slammed with a bill of almost 400,000 naira?? Do they expect such a person to steal to pay that bill? Why are you and your governor so heartless? The real oppressor is this Lagos state govt, that is insensitive to the plight of Lagosians. Do Lagosians have an inexhaustible supply of funds? Do you even know how many people have lost their jobs or source of income, in the past one year? ipoblogic: Collectively, many of us stayed away from Nairaland for two reasons. 1. Nigerians hate the truth, they go further to demonise anyone who stands for truth. 2. Under the hypocrisy of shooting youths with flags while shielding terrorists with mortar fire, we deemed it necessary to continue our works in the background.
Let me simply say this, we are neither deterred no discouraged.
Having said that, this is to warn Southern Nigeria and the Middle Belt that the North is patriotic to the North and not to Nigeria. The north is more concerned about the north than Nigeria.
While you guys are reasoning with respect to equity, justice and nation building. The North is not ready to reason. While you are looking for the BEST candidates, the North is looking Northern candidate. A Buhari will beat a Donald Duke a million times in the North. I pity men like Donald Duke for their ignorance.
You dont have like minded Northerners who will link hands with you on your expected match to elderado,
They have registered kids, but your adults are yet to register. They are frustrating registration in the south.
In the North, the INEC officials, the politicians, the Imams, the Emirs, The intellectuals, the students, the civil servants, the youths and the women will work in tandem to make sure one of their own wins that election.
On the other hand, your INEC officers will collect cash and sabotage you. When the chips are down, the North will not care about party. Their massive voting pattern in 2015 was not to the APC but to Buhari - One of the own. In 2019, they will align and choose a candidate. Party will be a secondary issue. The south might produce 20 presidential candidates under 50 parties.
You guys are simply day dreaming about voting Buhari out. The election is already rigged.
The South and Middle Belt are kids when it comes to Nigerian politics. You guys need sturdy and play the crude politics of the North if you are to have a voice.
Alternative is fight an intellectual warfare with them, but from all indications, the Southern/middle belt leaders lack such capacity.
1. With the proof of underage voters, you guys should have demanded for the head of INEC Chairman.. He is not supposed to be on that seat till now. What stops the South/Middle Belt staying it clearly that they wont participate in the elections unless the biased umpire called INEC overhauled, her chairman sacked and voters register purged??
2. The Police IG was shameless enough to command Governors to build ranches for private businesses, if not, the Fulani herdsmen have the right to kill and maim without fear or favour..
Rather that Southern/Middle Belt law makers walking out of the National Assembly with a demand for the terrorists Police chief to be sacked, they are rather begging Buhari to beg the IG to implement the laws of the land.
Shame on them and shame on Southern Nigeria.
Further more, concerning 2019, let me warn the South/Middle Belt If Buhari lose that election, the North will unleash violence against Southern/Middle Beltans living in the North in such a manner that Boko Haram and Herdsmen will be a childsplay. In that day, when you see blood soaking baboons and monkeys, you will remember the words of "Prophet Buhari"
The only way of escaping such violence, is that another of their own takes over from Buhari.
Finally, let me state clearly that 1. The killings and taking over of lands in the Middle Belt by Jihardists called herdsmen will never stop unless the South/Middle Belt stop it.
2. When they are done with the Middle Belt and install their Emirs, they will descend on the South.
2. Blood will continue to flow in Nigeria until the dream of Usman Dan Fodio is accomplished or until the South/Middle Belt revolts.
Too bad, in case of any revolution, the North is armed and ready. The South/Middle Belt is only a sitting duck, waiting for eventuality.
3. The Igbo politicians hoping to rule Nigeria in 2023 need to be chained and locked up for a long time. Their daftness has translated to madness. it is a shame. When the chips are down, the best they can get is VP.. It is easier for Nigeria to break than for an Igbo man to rule Nigeria.
4. Some of us are no longer interested in the sham called electoral process. Therefore we shall just relax and watch you guys in 3D.
Long Live The Truth Long Live Lovers of Truth. Who made you leave your brains behind on your pillow, when you decided to open this thread? Who did this to you? So you are praying that " 2. When they are done with the Middle Belt and install their Emirs, they will descend on the South." Your prayers will NEVER be answered, you prophet of doom! |

Did they enter each building to determine if it was owner-occupier, or fully rented out, before they computed the LUC charge and gave it to the residents of each building? Is the LUC levied on a 3-bedroom flat in Ketu, the same as the one levied on a 3-bedroom flat in Ajah area of Lekki? They'd simply overvalue your property and calculate the rate with an inflated valuation. Oh, I wish I could dash you 1,000 likes for this post! Kai, your head dey correct. That is the new gimmick Ambode's govt of exploitation has embarked upon. Will everyone who has a house in Lekki, Ikeja, Mushin, Magodo, Apapa, Ijeshatedo, Alaba etc, built according to the same specs and design, pay the same Land Use Charge? No! They will give each of them different property values, even if all the buildings have the same spec, design, plot size and layout. And they will then work out the LUC rate, based on those inflated skewed property values. |

UNIQUEISRAEL: Bravo!!!
An average Nigerian is naturally GREEDY, we always on the receiving end(we call on the government to build roads, clear gutters and sweep the dirty streets and house corners, RUBBISH!!!), and that's why Nigeria is still underdeveloped! Go to other develop countries, you pay charges on each car, house you have! That's why an average citizen of those countries, have only one house or car, not that they lack money in acquiring more, but the advances in charge which is tantamount to liability cost!!
We Must Grow!
Ambode, fire on, do your best! Such comments honestly shock me, because it shows that Nigerians do NOT think, and do not ask relevant questions. Right here on my table is a Land Use Charge that was issued to a client of mine. From 78,000 naira LUC last year for a residential property, that person is being asked to cough out 361,000 naira this year. On what basis? Has the size of the house changed? No! Has the property been commercialised? No! So why impose almost 400% increase in LUC on the landlord? Instead of addressing specific concerns, the govt of Ambode is dishing out adverts riddled with lies and half-truths. When you say a property is valued at 20 million, how was that sum arrived at? Will a property of a specific design valued at 20 million in Mushin, also be valued at 20 million in Lekki, bearing the same design? In the property market, there is something called 'a willing buyer-willing seller' relationship, that determines the market value of a property. Is that what took place in this case, before the value of the property was arrived at? My friend's estate agent placed a value of 30 million on a block of 4 flats in our neighbourhood at one time. At the end of the day, that block was sold for 18 million naira. So what was the parameter used to compute the market value of that block? This same market value of a property story, is what has put many banks in trouble today. A customer wants to borrow money from a bank, and tenders the C of O to his property to the bank, as collateral. The building is valued by Estate Surveyors at 40 million naira. By the time the customer defaults and that property is sold, a lot of times the sale price falls below the so-called market value due to the 'willing buyer-willing seller' relationship at that point in time, and they are unable to recoup the full value of the loan borrowed by the customer. It has happened several times. Ambode should stop his shenanigans. He increased land surveying fees last year from 80,000 per plot to almost 700,000 per plot, and got away with it. Later he increased waste disposal charges, and appointed Visionscape - a decision that has turned many parts of Lagos into a filthy zone. Not long after, he increased toll gate fees. People shouted, and later kept quiet. Now, he has also hiked vehicle registration fees by over 200%. Ambode is running a govt of extortion, and has forgotten that the people he was elected to govern have their difficulties, challenges and options like everyone else. In other places, roads are swept, gutters are cleared and many activities are carried out by govt without extortion of the citizens by such govts. Last year 2017, Lagos State Internal Revenue Service (LIRS) alone generated N247.022 billion. Have Lagosians received services commensurate with this figure? Fashola our dear BRF was an effective, dynamic governor that executed a lot of note worthy programmes, but he did not institute a govt of extortion and exploitation, in order to achieve his goals. Ambode should realise that Lagosians do not have inexhaustible funds in these hard times, neither do they have limitless patience. One day, they might snap! |

naijaking1: I meant that every property owner would pay the crazy tax, but since there are more non-Yoruba property owners in Lagos than Yorubas, you can figure out who's going to cough out the most money to buy Tinubu another airplane.
Proclaiming Lagos a Yoruba city, and enacting policies that patronize that tribe at the expenses of the other tribes is short sighted. That's what Ibadan was for.
After visiting other World cities like NYC, London, and Paris, I can tell you that it's akin to proclaiming NYC a Jewish city where the Hebrew anthem must be sang every day? Unlike Lagos, NYC leaders want to grow their city, expand and modernize with stable tax base. A tax base that is open to anybody with money! Arabs welcome, Japanese welcome, Chinese are happy to call NYC home, Russians, everybody.
In Lagos, the shortsighted slowpokes want the money from tax, but want to move Lagos to the status Ibadan, or even the ancestral Ile Ife. Time will tell you it can't work.
Nobody, not even Yorubas can eat their cake and have it too. Your post is the very definition of silliness. Did you conduct a census or a survey to show that non-Yorubas are the majority of landlords in Lagos State? Is that what you were told, or merely what you imagined in the recesses of your dark mind? Go to tiny Osun State and see construction of schools, roads, etc. It's your type that make useless governors to feel like great achiever. Pathetic. Don't mind that joker, you just responded to! What you just stated, is what we have been saying all along, yet he has been busy dodging the real issue, trying to praise Amosun for a job that is 'partially' done, and poorly completed. Out of all the 20 local govt areas in Ogun State, a governor decides to construct infrastructure in only 5, and yet that clown is singing his praise to the high heavens. 5 out of 20 is NOT a pass mark by any standards. Or didn't Amosun receive votes from any of the other local govt areas? |
